A big great white has been detected off Perth beaches.
Beachgoers in the Hillary's area are being warned to use extra caution after a diver had his fins bitten off by a four metre shark on Saturday.
The man was diving near Little Island, just north of Hillarys, when the shark attacked.
Although he was not badly injured, the Westpac Helicopter was deployed however it failed to locate the shark, and Surf Life Saving WA have advised all swimmers in the area to use caution.
Earlier on Saturday, beaches north of Perth were reopened after being closed when a tagged great white shark was detected.

Fisheries detected the tagged shark at the Floreat receiver just after 6am on Saturday morning, with Floreat beach immediately closed and swimmers at City Beach advised of the sighting.
The Scarborough receiver then detected the shark at 7.30pm, with the City of Stirling closing Scarborough Beach immediately.
The great white stayed offshore for an hour and a half, however all beaches were reopened by 10.30am.

Surf Life Saving New Zealand is frustrated basic water safety messages are being ignored.
Labour Weekend marks the start of lifeguards patrolling beaches, and they're gearing up for another busy summer.
Conditions were perfect at Orewa Beach today as young lifeguards were put through their paces. Four-thousand volunteer every summer and have to be brought up to speed.
"We're making sure their fitness is up to scratch, their rescue skills are there," says northern region Surf Life Saving manager Tom Burgess. All our lifeguards are trained in CPR and first aid, so we're refreshing those."
Mr Burgess says the public needs to be brought up to speed too. He's frustrated the same messages are ignored year after year.
"A lot of people know the messages but they don't respond to them because they don't see the hazards," he says. "They don't see the risks and a lot of people just get caught out."
The beach where swimmers get caught out most often is at Piha.
Last year 98 people drowned one of the lowest tolls since records began. But there's one statistic that's really worrying Water Safety New Zealand 80 percent of 10-year-olds can't swim well enough to save themselves. It means parents need to be extra careful when their children are near water.
"It's typically blokes over summer and small children that are going to cause the most issues," says Water Safety New Zealand chief executive Matt Claridge. "For parents, mums, wives, be the nag, be the one planting the message."
Males make up the vast majority of drownings, many of these on boats.

PORT HUENEME, Calif. For one California beach city, every grain of sand counts.
Port Hueneme, home to a naval base and about 20,000 residents, is starved for sand because Congress has not allocated enough money to help repair the city's badly eroded beaches, according to the Ventura County Star.
The city is supposed to receive extra sand every two years through nearby dredging by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. But the most recent effort to pump 2.5 million cubic yards of sand enough to bury 40 football fields almost 30 feet deep wasn't done because of federal budget restraints.
"The solution to this problem is simple," said Mayor Ellis Green. "The federal government needs to fulfill its obligation and pump the sand that is now in the sand trap to our beaches."
The erosion problem is so bad that the ocean comes right up to a street on the west end of town, city officials said. The city's pier is about 6 feet below where it should be and could be damaged by powerful storms.
Last month, Gov. Jerry Brown signed two bills that would provide $2 million to help Port Hueneme fortify its beaches, but it's unclear if the funding will provide assistance this winter.
On Wednesday, a 4-pound bag of sand arrived at City Hall from Stockholm, Sweden, sent by a family who recently visited Port Hueneme. The family also posted a video online, hoping to inspire others to send sand.
Some city officials, however, were cautious the campaign might bring a granular avalanche.
"I sure hope this video doesn't go viral," the city's mayor pro tem, Jon Sharkey, told the newspaper. "I can just envision truckloads of sand coming up to City Hall."

A dog has died after eating a "glutinous" substance which has washed up on beaches in west Cornwall.
Penzance vets said the three-year-old miniature schnauzer had eaten a white object on Long Rock beach on Tuesday.
Two other dogs are seriously ill after eating the same substance on beaches in the area, vets have said.
Dog owners have been warned to keep their animals away from west Cornwall's beaches. Coastguards are trying to identify the substance.
David Fenwick, who reported the "glutinous" substance at Long Rock to coastguards, said it smelled of firelighters.
"Some were the size of a cow pat, while others were much smaller, scattered all over the beach," he said.
Paul Moseley's golden retriever became ill after coming into contact with the substance at Praa Sands, about four miles (6km) from Long Rock, on Tuesday.
"Within 15 minutes she was sick," Mr Moseley said. "I presume she had eaten a small piece or licked it.
"Some of the pieces were as small as marbles."

A report from the medical officer of health and the head of the parks department recommends smoking be completely banned within nine metres of the boundaries of sports fields when theyre in use, including all baseball diamonds, outdoor ice rinks, football and soccer fields, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts and lawn bowling areas.
The report also recommends the ban be implemented on all 11 beaches, skateboard parks, ski hills, swimming pools, picnic shelters and theatre spaces operated by the Parks and Recreation department.

Deep-sea oil blowout could decimate favourite kiwi beaches
A computer oil spill modelling report released today shows a deep-sea blowout could have devastating impacts on New Zealand's coastal waters and significant economic consequences.
Industry standard modelling by Wellington based data scientists Dumpark using ten years of climate and weather data, shows the blowout effects of two planned deep-sea drilling locations off the West Coast of the North Island and the East Coast of the South Island. The deepest current production well in New Zealand is 125 meters. Texan oil driller Anadarko is scheduled to begin the first deep-sea drilling (at 1500 meters) this summer off Aucklands West Coast.
We predicted the trajectory of a thousand oil spill scenarios at two sites in New Zealand using ten years of global archives of marine weather data. We are basically answering a what if question. What if a catastrophic blowout scenario occurred at these deep-sea drill sites? - Laurent Lebreton, Dumpark Ocean Modeller
The modelling for the north shows the likelihood of oil hitting Aucklands iconic West Coast beaches and harbours. In the south, a spill off the coast of Otago could spread across the Chatham Rise - a vital commercial fishing ground and marine wildlife habitat - reaching all the way to the Chatham Islands.
In the North Island scenario, a deep-sea blowout will probably have dramatic consequences for the entire Western coastline and harbours from Taranakis Cape Egmont to Opononi in Northland - including Aucklands West Coast beaches. For a blowout off Otago, most modelled trajectories drift eastward without encountering land for months between Christchurch and the Chatham islands. - Timo Franz, Dumpark Data Analyst
Spill modelling reports are a permitting requirement for oil drilling, however deep-sea oil spill modelling reports have not yet been made publicly available on the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) website.
Greenpeace Campaigner Steve Abel said The Government have been understating the real risks being taken with our oceans and coastlines, so today we are showing New Zealanders what the Government, Minister Simon Bridges and industry already know and have kept hidden - the full extent of the risk of deep-sea drilling.
Drilling at these depths is much riskier than the shallow drilling we currently have in New Zealand. This modelling suggests just how much of a threat deep-sea drilling could be to our values, our seas, our beaches, our way of life and our economic prosperity."

Selectmen in a public-forum section of their Thursday night meeting were asked to consider ways in which beaches might be upgraded in town and how that might be funded.
Better beaches? That takes better revenue flow, the board was told.
How to improve beaches? Well that might start at Town Neck with an upgrade there and a start to pay for the work by increasing stickers issued to one-time day users. That fee this past summer totaled $10.
Selectmen were told such an approach pivots on conducting a needs cost-benefit analysis of beach revenue and its future potential.
Selectmen did not respond to the ideas, but Town Manager Bud Dunham said his office might be able to generate fiscal data related to beach revenue that could be extrapolated in new ways.
To be clear and put things in some sort of perspective, Sandwich generates about $220,000 in total revenue, Dunham said. In contrast, the Town of Barnstable collects over $1 million at Sandy Neck alone.

As dredging gets under way for a groundbreaking $26 million nourishment effort for the beaches in Sagaponack, Water Mill and Bridgehampton, elsewhere in the town another oceanside village is grappling with the issue of beach nourishment in its own right.
Fueled by a citizen-based initiative that footed more than $100,000 to have a nourishment plan drafted, Quogue Village has been flirting with the idea of undergoing beach nourishment for more than three years.
Mayor Peter Sartorius said the Village Board was approached in 2010 by a group of citizens lobbying for nourishment of Quogues 2.7-mile stretch of beach. The group of primarily Dune Road residents, which formed the nonprofit Save the Dunes and Beaches Foundation, agreed to pay the permit fees on behalf of the village.
Theres no commitment to go forward with any kind of a project, Mayor Sartorius said. It wasnt like a secret or anythingit was mentioned in meetings, and I addressed it in my state of the village address.
Currently, the group has pending applications for beach nourishment, in the villages name, with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the State Department of Environmental Conservation, the New York General Services Administration and the New York Coastal Management Program, according to Aram Terchunian of First Coastal, a Westhampton Beach erosion control firm.
Mr. Terchunian is a longtime consultant to the group as well as a consultant for the project in eastern Southampton Town.
Its important, because everyones got a stake in the beachregardless of where you live in Quogue, youve got a stake in the beach, Mr. Terchunian said. If youre a Quogue resident and youve been going to the beach for the past eight to 10 years, you know that its a shrinking situation.
The Save the Dunes and Beaches Foundation is calling for a project that would dredge about 1.1 million cubic yards of sand from the ocean floor about a mile offshore and use that sand to add an average of 60 feet of beach to the 14,235 linear feet of coastline. The added sand would act as an additional barrier to protect the houses on Dune Road, as well as the village as a whole, Mr. Terchunian explained.
According to the groups proposed plan, which is available on its website, quoguebeaches.org, as well as in hard copies at the Quogue Library and Village Hall, the project could be completed in about two months and would cost more than $14.1 million.
Mayor Sartorius said the village has no intentions of moving forward with such a project at this time, as it has not been determined if its necessary or in the publics best interest, adding, At this point were at an informal discussion phase.

The project will see the improvement of various facilities at the beaches such as car parks, pathways, seating areas, a children's park, changing rooms and washrooms, among others.
