Global Dairy Automation Market 2020 with (COVID-19) Impact Analysis, Product Type, Key Manufacturers, Regions and Forecast to 2026 - 3rd Watch News

Library of Congress Wants To Try Adding Humans to Automated Processes – Nextgov

The Library of Congress, the biggest physical repository of information in the world, has been digitizing its resources, expanding its digital library and developing automation tools to manage its collection. As those tools bear fruit, Library officials now want to reintroduce humans to the process.

The Librarys Digital Innovation Labs Section has undertaken a range of programs aimed at maximizing the use of digital collections and supporting emerging research methods, including using machine learning and crowdsourcing prototypes, according to a solicitation posted Tuesday to beta.SAM.gov. Now, the Library of Congress seeks to build on these initial experiments to further examine models that expand access to digital collections by combining digitally-enabled human participation with computational methods, otherwise known as human-in-the-loop approaches.

As the Librarys digital collection expands, it needs help properly tagging and verifying the metadata attached to the content. Machine learning tools have been plugging along at this task through the pilot programs, but Library officials want humans to help verify the work is being done correctly, as well as ethically.

Through the contract, the Library wants to procure at least two experimental prototypes using human-in-the-loop workflows to model, test, and evaluate different ethical approaches to applying crowdsourcing and machine learning methods to Library digital collections that enhance collection usability, utility, discoverability and user engagement.

Per the solicitation, at least one of the two prototypes will focus on improving metadata through crowdsourcing methods. As users add feedback on the accuracy of the derived metadata, those results will in turn be funneled back into the automation tools to serve as training data for a machine learning algorithm that shall be applied to Library digital collections to create enhanced metadata.

Library officials stressed the need to incorporate user-centered design in the process or risk alienating the volunteers and researchers contributing to the project. The solicitation pushes this concept beyond basic interface design and requires the contractors to consider user motivations and needs in the workflow.

Workflows shall be adaptive to different use cases and user profiles, to ultimately facilitate meaningful and productive user interactions with the Librarys digital collections, according to the statement of work.

Bids are due by noon August 5. The contract will run from September 1 through June 30, 2021.

IT Process Automation Market Evolving Technology and Growth Outlook 2020-2026 - 3rd Watch News

Automating IT security – ComputerWeekly.com

A study from Forrester recently warned that IT security professionals are becoming increasingly concerned about the rise incyber crimepowered by artificial intelligence (AI).

The study, commissioned by Darktrace, reported that close to 80% of cyber security decision-makers anticipate offensive artificial intelligence (AI) to increase the scale and speed of attacks.

In addition to their quickness, 66% also expect offensive AI to conduct attacks that no human could conceive of. The study warned that these attacks will be stealthy and unpredictable in a way that enables them to evade traditional security approaches that rely on rules and signatures and only reference historical attacks.

According to Forrester, human operators limit the speed with which organisations can detect, interpret and respond to threats. As attackers modify their tactics and beat legacy security tooling, they will move deeper and more quickly into infected networks, the analyst company warned. This lack of speed has serious implications.

Cyber security decision-makers are most concerned about systems or business interruption, intellectual property or data theft, and reputational damage, but help is here thanks to advances in AI.

PA Consultings Lee Howells, an AI and automation expert, and YannisKalfoglou, an AI and blockchain expert, believe that the use and capabilities of AI to attack organisations is growing and becoming more sophisticated.

In a recent Computer Weekly article, Howells andKalfoglousuggested that cyber criminals would inevitably take advantage of AI, and such a move would increase threats to digital security and the volume and sophistication ofcyber attacks.

AI provides multiple opportunities forcyber attacks from the mundane, such as increasing the speed and volume of attacks, to the sophisticated, such as making attribution and detection harder, impersonating trusted users and deep fakes, they wrote.

One example of a simple but elegant AI-based attack is Seymour and Tullys Social Media Automated Phishing and Reconnaissance (SNAP_R). This proof of concept created by security researchers automates the creation of fake tweets with malicious links.

According to Howells andKalfoglou, AIs ability to analyse large amounts of data at pace means many of these attacks are likely to be uniquely tailored to a specific organisation.

The pair warned that these kinds of highly sophisticatedcyber attacks, executed by professional criminal networks leveraging AI and machine learning, will enable attacks to be mounted at a speed and thoroughness that will overwhelm an organisations IT security capabilities.

AI-enabled security automation has the potential to combat AI-powered malicious activity. For instance, Howells andKalfoglousaid an organisation could use behaviour-based analytics, deploying the unparalleled pattern-matching capability of machine learning.

Assuming the appropriate data access consents are in place, the abundance of user behaviour data available from streaming, devices and traditional IT infrastructure gives organisations a sophisticated picture of peoples behaviour, they wrote.

For Howells andKalfoglou, user behavioural data can be analysed to help organisations determine what device is being used at a particular time (for example, iPad at 10pm), what activity the user is typically doing at that time (such as processing emails at 10pm), who is the user they interacting with (for example, no video calls after 10pm due to security policy) and what data is being accessed (for example, to stop shared drive access after 10pm).

They add that this behavioural data can be built, maintained and updated in real time by a well-trained machine learning system. Any detected deviations from the normal pattern will be analysed and trigger an alert that could lead to cyber defence mechanisms being deployed.

IBMs 2019 Cost of a data breach report looked at the relationship between data breach cost and the state of security automation within companies that deploy, or do not deploy, automated security methods and technologies.

Such security technologies aim to augment or replace human intervention in the identification and containment of cyber exploits or breaches and depend upon artificial intelligence, machine learning, analytics and incident response orchestration.

Having systems in place that automate the detection of and response to malicious activity negates the need for human-driven investigation. IBMs research found that over half (52%) of companies studied had security automation partially or fully deployed. The average total cost of a data breach was 95% higher in organisations without security automation deployed.

IBM reported that the average total cost of a data breach was $2.65m for organisations that fully deployed security automation. The cost of a data breach in organisations that did not deploy automation was $5.16m, in other words, some $2.51m higher.

Ivana Bartoletti, a cyber risk technical director at Deloitte and a founder of Women Leading in AI, says AI can be deployed in the training of a system to identify even the smallest behaviours of ransomware and malware attacks before it enters the system and then isolate them from that system. She says AI can also be used to automate phishing and data theft detection, which are extremely helpful as they involve a real-time response.

Security professionals are adopting security information and event management (Siem) tools to enable them to take a holistic approach to monitoring IT security. According to a forecast fromMarketsandMarkets, the global Siem market size is expected to grow 5.5% annually to $5.5bn by 2025. But not every organisation can justify deploying a full Siem system.

Logically, using AI to trawl masses of data to identify threats is not dissimilar to the techniques used in AIOps, where server, network and application logs are analysed. Analyst Gartner says AIOps is primarily used to support IT operations processes that enable monitoring or observation of IT infrastructure, application behaviour or digital experience.

Almost always, AIOps platform investments have been justified on the basis of their ability to decrease mean time to problem resolution and the resultant cost reduction, says the analyst firm.

Gartner analysts wrote in the companys Market guide for AIOps platforms that the benefits of AIOps include reducing event volumes and false alarms. Getting overwhelmed with false positives is a major headache for IT security, leading to legitimate activities being blocked. As Howells andKalfoglousiPad example shows, AI can build an understanding of what constitutes normal user behaviour.

AIOps can additionally detect anomalous values in time-series data. This goes beyond merely knowing when the iPad was used to try to access shared data after 10pm, against company policy.

Instead, the AI can uncover meaning in hidden data and predict an outcome, and such predictions could show security professionals problems long before a data policy violation is flagged.

AI can also perform root cause analysis using bytecode instrumentation or distributed tracing data along with graph analysis, to understand why a data breach occurred.

However, Deloittes Bartoletti warns that over-reliance on AI presents another problem. As AI improves at safeguarding assets, so too does it improve attacking them, she says. As cutting-edge technologies are applied to improve security, cyber criminals are using the same innovations to gain an edge over them. Typical attacks involve gathering system information or sabotaging an AI system by flooding it with requests. AI can augment cyber security so long as organisations know its limitations and have a clear strategy focusing on the present while constantly looking at the evolving threat landscape.

As the game between IT security professionals and hackers intensifies, the battle will inevitably shift to AI-poweredcyber attacksand cyber defences. The question then becomes, whose AI is faster and smarter? Who wins: the cat or the mouse?

Intelligent Process Automation Market Key Insights Based on Product Type, End-use and Regional Demand Till 2026 - 3rd Watch News

HPE announces 5G Lab and demo of automated 5G network slice orchestration – TechRepublic

Telcos can get hands-on experience with innovations with the lab, and the demonstration showcases the expanding use cases and service agility necessary to support 5G applications.

Image: HPE

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) unveiled two major 5G initiatives on Thursday: The 5G Lab and a technical demonstration of automated 5G network slice orchestration. Both projects highlight the expanding use cases and growing innovations surrounding 5G connectivity in business.

SEE: Future of 5G: Projections, rollouts, use cases, and more (free PDF) (TechRepublic)

Despite the coronavirus pandemic stifling many organizations' progress and digital transformation initiatives, 5G has continued to grow, a 5G Americas report found. 5G connections globally as of Q1 2020 have surpassed 63.6 million, signifying a 308.7% growth since Q4 2019, according to Omdia data.

Commercial networks are seeing similar growth, with 82 networks now in existence, and it is expected to double to 206 by the end of 2020, a TeleGeography report found. With this growth, HPE took the opportunity to facilitate further innovation, specifically by building multivendor solutions.

"What we are pushing towards the market is the message that it is the time to build multivendor solutions," said Richard Band, head of mobile core and 5G at HPE CMS. "If you look at the 5G market or the core network market there's very few vendors left that can do the end to end [process]."

"Many of our customers, including Orange, are looking for ways to diversify their supplier base," Band added. "Orange wants to build a multivendor network, and this robot demonstration that we've done with them was a first step in building this. The HPE 5G lab is an HPE initiative to encourage the emergence of the multivendor ecosystem."

The HPE 5G Lab is a test environment where telcos and partners can experiment with and validate 5G network solutions. The mission of the lab is to help telcos accelerate 5G adoption and gain revenue quicker by getting hands-one experience with the latest 5G tech, according to a press release.

The lab is based around a specific group of HPE 5G solutions including HPE 5G Core Stack, HPE Telco Cloud, HPE Telco Blueprints for Core and Edge, and Aruba networking equipment, which HPE Lab users can utilize to test innovations, Band said.

"With the HPE Lab, we are dramatically increasing the proportion of standard IT tools and technologies in telco. Historically, telco has been a very closed environment. When I started 20 years ago, everything was proprietarythe hardware, even the cabling," Band said.

"Over the years, we've moved away from this very proprietary [environment] and made it more aligned to the IT industry. This is an important step because now we're adopting cloud-native technologies...which gives you very quick updates on services. We're bringing this into telco," Band noted. "It's a huge challenge because it's a new, different type of workload, different way of working."

"This lab is intended to help the industry understand how to leverage all of these capabilities; ultimately, the objective is to have a much higher degree of automation and much faster innovation," Band said.

The HPE 5G Lab is located in Fort Collins, CO, and is available worldwide to customers and HPE partners through remote access, including the provision of personnel to manage and operate the lab environment and help with integration and testing.

To access the HPE 5G Lab and validate via the 5G Core Stack, independent software vendors (ISVs) need to join the HPE Partner Ready program, which will allow them to demonstrate compliance with 3GPP standards and utilize the HPE 5G ecosystem, according to the release.

HPE's second major announcement involves a partnership with Orange and Casa Systems that uses a kit robot to demo an automated 5G network slice orchestration.

"5G network slicing...is kind of a virtual private network from mobile networks," Band said. "Network slicing is really about the ability to instantiate different splices, different networks, different characteristics, and isolate them logically from one another, also from a security perspective."

The collaboration demonstrates the capability of a cloud-native 5G core network to recognize degradations in quality-of-service (QoS) on a common network slice for a mission-critical service and automatically self correct, creating a new dedicated network slice immediately, according to the release.

"We instantiated an initial network slice at those network functions and implemented 5G core network capabilities and we ran this robot," Band said. "This robot is circulating and self- balancing kind of thing, and it's a remote control. So the function that tells it what to do is not actually on the robot, but it is remote. It's connected through this 5G network and then we start loading additional traffic onto the network so it gets saturated."

"You start seeing that the behavior of the robot becomes erratic because it's not getting instructions on time from the centralized server," Band said. "At that point, we say, 'OK, we will split.' And we will instantiate different sets of network functions, different networks slices, but they're just dedicated to this robot. We instantiate this automatically. Then we tell the robot, you can use this from now on. And at that point you see that the behavior becomes smooth again."

Historically, if a telco wants to build a network, it builds it once and never touches it again. If it wanted to add to the network, it would take months or years to accomplish, Band said.

"What we are showing here is an ability to react in real time or near real time to conditions and adds capacity to the network. With that, the network works much faster," Band said. "You get a much smoother experience as a mobile subscriber, but the real value, generally speaking for 5G and including for network slicing, is really for enterprise for their own internal processes or for the things that they will offer to you."

The next steps for Orange, HPE, and Casa is expanding this use case demonstration into an end-to-end campus trial to move toward broader service availability, according to the release.

"This demonstration with Orange and Casa underscores our ability to automate and orchestrate the complete lifecycle of 5G services in cloud-native, multivendor environments," said Domenico Convertino, vice president of product management, communications and media solutions at HPE, in the release.

"An open 5G Core is key for operators to break out of the single vendor lock-in of previous generation networks. The HPE 5G Core Stack, as well as our newly announced HPE 5G Lab, enable an accelerated evolution to 5G networking that is open and interoperable," Convertino added.

7 takeaways on AI, automation in local government – StateScoop

In a virtual roundtable conversation hosted by Scoop News Group last month, local government technology leaders from around the New York City region shared hopes and expectations for artificial intelligence, lending insight into how the technology is being received inside government. Most expressed interest in the emerging technology, which is already seeing its first implementations at government agencies, but many also hedged their interest with a realization that the technologys capabilities remain limited.

Im in listening mode, one New York City official said. Ive heard a lot about how AI is going to change my work, but so far its just hypothetical.

But despite AIs immaturity, many officials say they feel impending budget constraints are forcing them to investigate any technology that automates tasks to alleviate their workforces.

We absolutely expect chatbots and artificial intelligence in general to be a big part of our workforce strategy in the future, another official said.

During the discussion, the technology officials shared their current uses of AI and automation technologies, if they had any, and their expectations for how those tools will affect governments operations in the coming years.

Scenario-based simulation drives advanced automation – Automotive Testing Technology International

Last year, as the result of the 13.5m (US$17.1m) HumanDrive research project, led by Nissan and eight other consortium partners including testing specialists Horiba MIRA, an autonomous Nissan Leaf successfully completed two trials: a 230-mile Grand Drive self-navigated journey on UK roads using an advanced autonomous control system; and test track-based activity that explored human-like driving using machine learning to enhance the user experience.

During the 30-month study, Horiba MIRA devised a scenario-based simulation testing program designed to interrogate the behavior of the artificial intelligence (AI) within vehicles. According to the company, the research involved the creation of a three-tier scenario system functional, logical and concrete to generate a set of cases covering all the complex situations that vehicles encountered. Building on its findings, the company is now calling on the automotive industry, government and academic institutions to use scenario-based testing to standardize, simplify and automate CAV validation in a repeatable and reliable way.

Ashley Patton, lead connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) test engineer, Horiba MIRA, said, For HumanDrive, we focused on a series of scenarios ranging from a basic scenario, through to a very complex one typical of an autonomous CAV testprogram. A surrogate test vehicle was used, as we could specifically control it using a full set ofindustryleading driving robots, to reduce the risks in this development activity.

In very complex scenarios, we explored other factors including the test track layout. These make a significant difference to the potential route options the CAV may choose to take and therefore the complexity of programming and quantity of actors we may need to deploy. For example, robotic, crashableactors, representative of other vehicles, pedestriansand cyclists, were used in the majority of these tests, as there is still some inherent risk of collision.

HumanDrive enabled our CAVtest team to focus on innovativescenario-based testing processes, focusing onstandardization, simplification andautomation. One of the most interesting conclusions is that whether CAV test requirements are specified as a functional, logical or concrete scenario, we must program a concrete scenario for the test to run. We are currently developing tools to help our customers complete testing in an efficient and reproducible way with confidence that the output of the test will validate the requirement set which is a testament to the great progress made during the project.

Ashley concluded, In terms of CAV testing, whats clear is that to be efficient and dynamic, the scenario execution rate must increase. Were working very hard on how to standardize the inputs to automate the CAV test processes, which are founded on base engineering principles for ensuring industry-leading best practices. The automation of some of the manual test processes will give significant time and cost savings to complete CAV testprogramssafely, efficiently and accurately.

Can automated feature engineering produce machine learning that finally lives up to its name? – ITProPortal

Automated machine learning (ML) sounds like the stuff of business leaders dreams.

Take the question, which customers should we focus our marketing budget on this year? ML can now deliver robust answers to these types of business questions even faster than before, through greater use of automation.

Data in at one end, seriously useful business insight out of the other.

That is partly why Forbes predicts businesses will be investing $125bn a year on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning by 2025.

But even though numerous vendors boast of AutoML capabilities, the reality is that the act of developing ML models is still very much driven by humans and requires an awful lot of manual trial and error, performed by (expensive) experts.

Whilst the human element will never completely disappear, new automation techniques will help to reduce the vast amount of labor intensive work required. Not only will this reduce the overall cost and effort, it should reduce the levels of skill and experience required to build reliable ML models.

By todays standards, it is certainly an unfortunate fact that manual effort still accounts for 80 percent of the machine learning development process. The most important part of this manual effort is the feature engineering process, where different data elements are combined and enriched to generate the most potent formula for predicting future events.

In the case of working out which customers might churn in the next year, for example, the data may include the size of their last discount. But prediction accuracy would improve if further features were engineered such as the time since the last discount, the average time between discounts and how the discount compares to those offered to other customers.

The challenge here is that nobody knows for sure whether these feature combinations will work until they have been developed, tested and fully assessed together as part of an ML model.

Specialist knowledge has been essential in these endeavors: you cant produce a good algorithm without a subject matter expert knowing something about which features may be the most significant, or without experienced data scientists with deep knowledge of the ML process.

This need for expensive experts is one of the factors that have limited the application of ML to the organizations with the skills, patience and deep pockets to indulge lengthy developments, and to low-risk use cases with the clear potential for high levels of return on investment. But this is now starting to change.

One area of data science development that offers the potential to transform this endeavor is automated feature engineering: Using a computer to shortcut one of the most manually-intensive aspects of ML development.

The challenge of bringing automation to every stage of the ML workflow is one that my company, Peak Indicators, has been exploring for years. From this work, we created Tallinn ML, a platform providing all of the components required to build and deploy predictive models automatically, significantly reducing the reliance on highly-skilled data scientists.

Tallinn ML includes a unique feature-engineering engine that drastically cuts the time taken to develop new predictive algorithms by generating and testing thousands of different metrics as part of the data engineering, a process of trial and error that can take human months or even years to deliver.

Earlier this year we applied it on Kaggle - Googles online home for the worlds data scientists and machine-learning experts, a kind of Premier League of ML. Kaggle set an unusual challenge. Can you develop an algorithm to predict which people were most likely to survive the worlds most infamous shipwreck - the Titanic?

Competitors were given a set of features, such as passenger age or gender, and asked to develop the most powerful algorithm to predict who would survive. Among Kaggles 1 million users are some of the worlds best-known researchers and data science teams. Peaks Tallinn ML algorithm reached the top 5 percent for accuracy.

While other world-class competitors developed their models through manual means, our model was produced automatically. It involved no coding and no manual trial and error. It proved that machine learning has now reached a new level of automation.

So what difference does this make to business? Well, potentially a huge one.

The insights provided by predictive analytics and machine learning have been seen for some time as potentially revolutionary for business. Suddenly firms are far better able to answer crucial questions like:

Those questions are just the start. Answering them reliably means resources can be put where they are most needed. Inefficiently-used time and money can be reallocated to more productive tasks. Robust new insights into what is needed next appear magically.

But making that promise a reality is difficult. As Gartner highlighted just last year, doing predictive analytics is tough. Your team needs to possess the right skills, understand business priorities and deal with data accuracy.

That meant that any business, according to Gartners research, had previously to ask an important question: Whats the likelihood youll sink under the weight of your organizations data or swim to successful results?.

Now that question is no longer so pressing. An automated solution makes it far more likely an organization will swim, because it will eliminate a considerable amount of time and effort in ML projects, and significantly reduce the need for very high-level expertise. The chances of an organization sinking - or treading water - in a sea of data become far smaller.

Problems that took months to solve previously can now be addressed in a matter of hours and days, and it has become economically viable to use ML to solve a much more extensive range of problems. We expect to see more experimentation and innovation using ML across all areas of business, including use-cases that didnt justify the cost of data science projects lasting several months before.

Trials of Tallinn ML at a global retail and consumer-goods company produced a predictive model in two hours that was 18 percent more accurate, and delivered 19 times fewer false positives, than one developed over a three-month period by a team of experienced data scientists.

Another at a global financial-services organization showed that Tallinn MLs automated feature engineering improved the accuracy of employee-churn predictions by 51 percent.

Beyond these improvements in pace and accuracy, this new approach promises to bring the benefits of ML to a much wider range of organizations. Automating the entire ML workflow democratizes data science to the point that any organization with an IT manager and big data sets to explore can start to derive value from it.

ML and the ability for algorithms to improve automatically through experience has long been recognized for its potential to bring greater intelligence and automation to the world of business. But to date, it has relied on expert humans to set up the machines to do what they do best.

Fully automating the development of ML models means that, for the first time, ML can deliver on its full promise. Efficiency. Productivity. Speed. Precision in prediction. Seriously useful business insight. Genuinely letting the machine take the strain, and freeing up humans to do what they do best.

During his previous tenures as UiPath Legal Counsel and also General Counsel, Tiple has been at the forefront of designing and implementing the companys legal automation vision. In his new role, he will take full control of developing new licensing models, designing the go-to-market strategy for legal automation solutions, and identifying opportunities to improve legal and compliance processes.

"Weve developed our first legal robots to answer to our own pressing needs, which was a great incentive to think out of the box. Having to onboard eight to ten customers every working day, we needed to quickly process large amounts of information, execute repetitive actions or develop new innovative ways of working, and software robots proved to be our allies. There are still many such time-consuming, paper-based processes that are mandatory for legal practitioners, which do not necessarily need to be performed by a lawyer. Instead, they can be entrusted to robots that can complete tasks up to five times faster and more secure, saving the company time, money and easing the strain on employees," said Tiple.

Tiple added: "By bringing automation to the legal and compliance industry, organizations can lay a strong foundation for simplified digitalization. We believe that the appetite of companies and law firms to adopt automation will soon translate into increased market competitiveness."

Bringing Cutting-Edge Security Automation to the Enterprise: Respond Softwares New Partnership with SecureNation – Security Boulevard

Based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana,SecureNation is an industry-leading reseller and cybersecurity solution provider. Its a small business, with the agility and personal touch youd expect from a company of that size. The leadership team is highly experienced and is driven by a tireless commitment to their guiding mission: to provide clients with the best possible solution at the best possible price.

SecureNations clients benefit from the companys longstanding relationships with vendors, from its dedication to honesty and transparency, and from its efforts to create a level playing field for procurement. Their customers include some of the worlds largest enterprises.

Were like matchmakers, says Jon Davis, the CEO and founder of SecureNation. We have the connections and experience to be able to offer our clients the capabilities they need, whenever and wherever they need them. We negotiate with manufacturers to give our clients room for more.

Our objective is for everyone to be happy, adds Rachel Arnold, Client Relationship Specialist. We want happy customers and happy vendors, and we want to help them forge strong and long-lasting partnerships.

SecureNations vendor-agnostic approach enables it to be objective when it comes to matching its clients with the solutions and services that truly fit their individual needs. Were a pure reseller, says Davis. Services companies spend millions of dollars certifying their engineers on particular solutions, and once theyve done so, theyre incentivized to sell those, regardless of whether or not theyre best for the customers. We can keep our customers actual needs front and center at all times.

SecureNation always strives for a deep understanding of the key challenges its clients face so that it can offer them the right technology while saving them money, and Respond Softwares intelligent automated security monitoring and incident discovery solution, the Respond Analyst, is a natural fitone thats poised to resolve some of the most pressing challenges SecureNations enterprise customers currently face. Thats why SecureNation is proud to announce its new partnership withRespond Software.

The Respond Analyst takes softwares role in the security operations workflow to a whole new level, says Davis. There arent really other solutions out there that do what it does. The company doesnt have any true competitors.

Founded over a decade ago, SecureNation has seen cybersecurity come into the mainstream. In the industrys early days, compliance requirements drove many organizations investments into technologies and infrastructure, and many security professionals came from military backgrounds. Cybersecurity is a high-growth industry right now, but were in it for the long haul, says Davis. Were running a marathon, not a sprint.

Today, the vast majority of enterprise-grade cybersecurity programs face the same fundamental challenge: talent is in short supply. The demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals far outstrips their availability. And once hired, the average security analyststenure is troublingly shortleaving enterprises with an ongoing need to recruit and train new hires, an onerous and expensive process. At the same time, incident response (IR) teams have far too much to do. They face an endless barrage of alerts, the majority of which are false positives, and often must tune down their network security sensors simply to manage the alert volume.

In reality, very few enterprise-grade companies are satisfied with their incident response teams, says Davis. Teams are overwhelmed, and yet they need to be able to respond quickly or else the organization risks downtime or revenue loss. Its a near-impossible situation.

Especially right now, everybodys short-staffed, says Davis. The Respond Analyst is a valuable stepping stone for any organization thats looking to improve its security posture, explains Arnold. Considering how difficult it is to find qualified professionals in the cybersecurity field, its something that organizations looking to build security operations programs from the ground up should definitely look at.

Were excited to be able to offer the Respond Analyst to our clients, says Arnold. Not only can it be the perfect fit for organizations where other solutions dont meet their needs but Respond Software makes resources and team members available for ongoing support and ensures that all the pieces come together.

The SecureNation team believes that the Respond Analyst can play an important role in security operations programs that are young, growing, or looking to shift employees into more strategic, higher-value roles. Its always tough to build a security operations program that has a culture thats so strong and supportive that employees want tostay for the long haul, says Davis. The Respond Analyst can help incoming security analysts beef up their skills quickly so that they can perform their job duties right out of the gate, he adds. And down the line, it means that security operations programs can assign their employees more complex, challenging, and creative responsibilities. Its helping to develop talent in place.

Another draw of the Respond Analyst for SecureNations enterprise clients is its reliability and availability. Its always there, and its always on, says Arnold. Its like being able to give them all the full-time employees they need, with the level of expertise theyre looking for.

"Look at the robot as your new colleague": what automation can do for sports reporting – Journalism.co.uk

Robots are now capable of doing pre- and post-match coverage of 26 football leagues in a fraction of time, so you would forgive sports journalists for feeling replaceable.

But original reporting is safe in times of automation, according to Henning Johannesson, chief product officer of the Swedish company United Robots who spoke at Newsrewired earlier this month (7 July 2020).

"Look at the robot as your new colleague," he says, adding that creating more content for diverse audiences can actually help newsrooms increase reader revenue and prevent redundancies.

United Robots turns structured data sets, such as weather updates, real estate sales and traffic incidents into automated articles. Artificial intelligence picks the angle, and natural language generation tool writes the story. The company has generated more than one million articles since 2015 for its publisher clients.

In his previous role as head of sport at one of Sweden's largest media organisations MittMedia, Johannesson realised his team needed to change their strategy to remain competitive in sports coverage - not just football, but ice hockey, too.

To understand what makes readers tick, they studied the 1,000 most read sports articles published over a year and found these were mostly breaking news and stories about top league teams.

In other words, these are the stories that are worth reporter&s time and newsroom resources. Low engagement match reports of low league fixtures still matter but by using structured data from the results, they can be outsourced to robots.

"Go and write about the teams equipment manager who has worked with the team for 50 years, who has repaired boards and football boots. Do that story instead of writing about the dull game that automation can do," says Johannesson.

"This is what we didnt want to waste journalists' time and money on."

There is an exception for freak results, like an 11-0 defeat, he added. Editorial teams are notified and can then make a judgement call on how to cover this kind of match results.

One year on from incorporating automation into the newsroom, MittMedia's sports section became a key source of reader revenue for the company. It now accounts for up to 40 per cent of the companys digital conversions and 10,000 new subscribers (at $9-per-month).

MittMedia is not the only media company embracing automation in Sweden.

Klackspark, the regional football vertical of stgta Media, promises their readers to cover all football matches in the stergtland region in Sweden - 26 leagues, 176 national and local teams, down to division six - and it can fulfil that promise thanks to automation.

On average, stgta Media publishes 850 articles a month, with 70 per cent of bylines going to robots. The automation tool can even ask for and embed quotes from the coaches using the United Robots Q&A tool to add more depth into an article.

"To keep this new website updated, they need the robots," says Cecilia Campbell, chief marketing officer, United Robots.

"Then reporters do the really interesting stories that also convert people. It started as a free site, but it did so well they now put it behind a paywall that acts as a funnel to the [main] news site."

Campbell added that it is not just sports journalism where automation has proved to be a valued resource; it can be a useful tool for local content both for large and small newsrooms.

Brgslagsbladet, a local morning newspaper based in Stockholm, has a newsroom of six including the chief editor, plus one weekend reporter - no evening staff. Robots can fill those gaps and provide 24/7 coverage and free up reporters with heavy workloads.

Sweden's largest newspaper Aftonbladet has also incorporated automation into its local verticles in Malm and Uppsala regions, where more than 290 areas have no local reporters. It uses the traffic, weather and real estate datasets to meet the demand for local content.

"Readers also expect a level of service and this is where robots can come in. Theres no real limit in terms of volume and that means you can serve readers with comprehensive coverage," Campbell concludes.

FreightWaves 3PL Summit: Brad Jacobs on diversity, automation and COVID recovery – FreightWaves

Brad Jacobs, chairman and CEO of XPO Logistics (NYSE: XPO), is committed to improving the diverse culture XPO is striving to build for its employees, but doing so requires listening to employees, he said during the keynote address of FreightWaves Virtual 3PL Summit on Tuesday morning.

There is a problem in the country [with] racial inequality and thats a fact, Jacobs said. I think just in the last month, the recognition of that fact has become much more widespread.

Racial equality was one of the many topics Jacobs addressed during a nearly 50-minute live question-and-answer session. He also addressed potential mergers and acquisitions, company culture, automation and autonomous trucks.

Jacobs was asked questions from a diverse group of industry leaders, including Craig Fuller, CEO of FreightWaves; Ben Gordon, founder and managing partner of BG Strategic Advisors; David Dolan, managing director of DC Advisory US; John Larkin, operating partner of Clarendon Capital; Karl Kirkeby, senior vice president of Jefferies; Kevin Nolan, founder of Nolan Transportation Group; Lidia Yan, CEO of NEXT Trucking; Lori Heino-Royer, ambassador CEOX; Matt Waller, dean of the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas; George Abernathy, president of FreightWaves; and Anthony Smith, economist for FreightWaves.

The live question-and-answer town hall was the opening session of FreightWaves 3PL Summit, presented by Hubtek. TriumphPay is the universal sponsor and regional sponsors include Lean Staffing Solutions, Loadsure and Truckstop.com.

The questions were not pre-screened, so Jacobs answers were spur-of-the-moment responses. He likely knew that diversity would be a topic, however, and one of the first questions on the topic came from Heino-Royer.

Jacobs explained that XPO is trying to build a culture in which employees feel they can speak up, and it has held a number of town halls, some led by Jacobs himself, with minority employees. He said the employees were honest and every Black member of the company had experienced racism in their lifetimes.

We heard stories, and they were painful, and they were sincere, he said. And a lot of emotion and tearing up and, for me, they were very impactful. There is a lot of work to do.

XPO is hiring a chief diversity officer, Jacobs said, and he promised to increase the pipeline of diverse candidates. That may mean changing the criteria for applicants he said, to eliminate college degrees for positions where they may not be a necessity.

Were also going to increase the mentoring and promotion of the careers of all our employees [including Hispanic and Black employees], Jacobs added.

XPO is known for its aggressive acquisition approach the company has made 17 acquisitions during Jacobs tenure and that will continue, maybe.

I like M&A, Jacobs said in response to a question from Gordon. I think there are opportunities in M&A, particularly in the pandemic era. Will we buy something, I dont know.

In 2019, XPO was said to be looking and Jacobs confirmed the company is still on the hunt, but any deal must make strategic sense and increase shareholder value.

There has to be a strategic reason, there has to be a well-thought out plan for what you are going to do after the acquisition, and there has to be shareholder value, Jacobs said.

When asked by Fuller what he was most proud of during his tenure leading XPO, Jacobs didnt hesitate.

Im most proud of the culture weve created and over the past decade, we are the seventh-best performing stock in the Fortune 500, he said. We powered it all by investing in technology before technology was cool and were reaping the benefits of that technology.

Jacobs added that XPO continues to focus on how to keep employees safe and how it is positioning itself for the future. That includes a heavier focus on verticals such as e-commerce and increasing the use of technology such as robots and machine learning.

The future is more and more automation; thats a trend among the industry, and around the world, he said.

A number of questions focused on COVID-19 and how it is altering the landscape, especially from the technology standpoint.

The evolution of innovation and automation in the warehouse [space] has really impressed me because it improves [satisfaction among customers and employees], Jacobs said in response to a question from Yan.

He said XPO is working with Nestle in Europe on a warehouse of the future, with suppliers offering technologies and XPO contributing the software that will connect these disparate systems. The software, Jacobs said, will be open-sourced.

As to autonomous trucks, Jacobs said there is no doubt they are coming; the question is when? He said the technology wont be the question, it will be the regulations that govern their operation, but autonomous trucks are too efficient not to become a reality.

Jacobs also said that COVID-19 has only reinforced his view of technology, and shown that automation, machine learning and artificial intelligence will play key roles in logistics moving forward. Among the areas he sees evolving because of technology is pricing.

COVID-19 has also accelerated the pace of manufacturers outsourcing their logistics, Jacobs said. One large customer he spoke with is looking to close 20% of its brick-and-mortar stores and shift more business to e-commerce.

They need our help to run that in a very smooth way, Jacobs said.

Near-term, Jacobs is cautious on the economy but is very bullish long-term he said.

The pandemic is going to be over, Jacobs said, noting that the role governments have played in supporting the economy is 100-fold over what was done during the financial crisis of 2007-2008.

Were closer to it being over now than we were a few months ago and once its behind us people are going to be so excited to get out there and be creative and energetic and interact not just in cyberspace.

When we finally let loose and were back in the office and were back working together without fear of getting sick, Im very [excited], Jacobs said.
