SOFIA
NASA #39;s Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) aircraft has recently received major upgrades to its observatory and avionics systems that will significantly improve the systems #39; efficiency and operability. The new SOFIA hardware and software upgrades fully integrate the telescope with the observatory #39;s command and control system. Enhanced pointing and tracking capabilities have been integrated based on experience from last year #39;s flights. The highly modified Boeing 747SP aircraft has begun checkout flights in preparation for conducting astronomical observations and commissioning of its first-generation instruments in early 2013. Also during this downtime a new avionics system was designed and installed by ASB Avionics, LLC of Mojave, Calif. The new flight management system and modern electronic flight displays replaced the outdated navigation and flight deck instrument systems originally installed on the aircraft. Nova 2001 in M 33. Outburst (?), december 2012
On November 15th 2001 I was so lucky and discover a nova in the galaxy M 33. There are many novae each year, but the previous recorded I found was back in 1970 (M33 V468). After studying the image by Robert Gendler,, Astronomy Picture of the Day 2012 December 20, I think I found the prognitor star, again in outburst(?).
