Ascension Treatment Centers Opens New Outpatient Recovery … – PR Newswire (press release)

PALM SPRINGS, Calif., June 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --Addiction recovery is a journey and one that lasts a lifetime. Different stages of the journey call for different levels of clinical care, which is why Ascension Treatment Centers provides a full spectrum of services. In a new statement to the press, Ascension Treatment Centers announces the opening of its latest recovery community, an intensive outpatient (IOP) facility located in Palm Springs, California. The intensive outpatient center has been open since June 1.

"Typically, the addiction recovery process begins with detox, and then the individual transitions into a residential treatment facility," says Ascension Treatment Centers in its new press statement. "The goal, of course, is for the individual to then transition back into 'regular' life, including normal work and school activities. As the individual returns home, however, he or she may require some ongoing clinical oversight. That's what the intensive outpatient program provides."

Intensive outpatient services are geared toward those who have returned home following a season in residential care. These individuals may be back to work and to school, but the intensive outpatient program requires them to spend a few hours each day, a few days each week, working on their recovery in a structured, clinical setting.

"The new outpatient care center in Palm Springs provides one-on-one therapy, support groups, drug screenings, and a range of other therapeutic activities," the Ascension Treatment Centers press statement notes.

The new center is just one part of the broad spectrum of care that Ascension Treatment Centers offers including detoxification, residential treatment, day treatment, and more. "No matter where you are in your recovery journey, we want to make sure we have a program to meet your needs and to deliver clinical care that's tailored to you," says the press statement.

Ascension Treatment Centers works with individuals struggling with drug or alcohol abuse, including those local to Palm Springs and beyond. The clinical program is always individualized to the client and provides holistic services meant to lay a foundation for lifelong recovery.

Waterways in Ascension, Livingston reopened Tuesday evening – The Advocate

GONZALES All inland waterways in Ascension and Livingston parishes were reopened to recreational boat traffic at 6 p.m. Tuesday, five days after they were closed, Ascension officials said.

GONZALES The Amite River and all other inland waterways in Ascension and Livingston parish

Tropical Storm Cindy last week dropped rain while its winds pushed surge up waterways throughout the Lake Pontchartrain Basin, including those tied to Lake Maurepas, like the Amite River and Amite River Diversion Canal.

Local leaders closed the waterways to keep boat wakes from pushing high water into homes and to prevent boats from running into debris washed out from last week's storms.

Livingston and Ascension share the Amite, but other rivers and bayous also course throughout both parishes.

Ascension homeland security officials announced the planned waterway reopenings on Facebook Tuesday.

Blind River, which St. James Parish officials also closed last week due to high water, reopened Monday, Ascension officials said in the post.

Ascension Parish Civil Court Cases for June 12-16, 2017 - The Advocate

Album Review: GOATWHORE Vengeful Ascension – Metal Injection.net

Goatwhore have always distinguished themselves from their fellow New Orleans metal artists by largely eschewing that city's favored sludge template in favor of a unique blend of first wave black metal, hook-laden death metal and, sure, a dash of low-end, Southern-inflected sludge thrown in for added seasoning. Essentially they have a coherent vision that successfully straddles the venn diagram which overlaps most major facets of "extreme" metal. Where they haven't always distinguished themselves is in the songwriting department. They've always had an enduring sound going for them that make them an engaging listen even when they aren't swinging for the fences, from Ben Falgoust's raspy-yet-discernible crowing to Sammy Duet's encyclopedic grasp of catchy riff writing to the airtight interplay between bassist James Harvey and drummer Zach Simmons. But that talent hasn't always translated completely into collections of songs that differentiate themselves between one another.

The relative brevity of each Goatwhore album average length is around 40 minutes does point to a measure of deliberate quality control, yet since 2006's band-defining A Haunting Curse album the quartet have spun their wheels a bit, never dipping below a certain standard of excellence but often struggling to really take their music to the next level. Vengeful Ascension is more of modest progression than a bar-setting effort, but for a band that was already operating at an impressive level of hyper-competency to begin with, gains of any magnitude are welcome.

Vengeful Ascension is a refinement rather than a retooling of the Goatwhore sound there's nothing here we haven't heard out of these guys before, but the album shows a lot more versatility than the characterless, pedal-to-the-floor blur that has characterized large chunks of their last several albums. It's a like a mosh pit that opens at the beginning of a set and never closes: exhilarating at first but merely exhausting by the time it all wraps up. A little variety in tempo proves to be just what the doc ordered here. "Forsaken" fades in gradually on a tribal drum pattern before exploding into the high tempo onslaught we've come to expect out of this band, but by the time the title song kicks in at track three the tempo drops what you might call a brisk doom pace, with shards of ringing minor key chords that vaguely recall old 90's industrial.

"Where the Sun Is Silent" expands the band's repertoire with a blackened doom showcase that offers a moody respite at the dead center of an often ferocious 41 minutes. Many of the best of those ferocious moments come surprisingly late in the album, beginning near the halfway mark with the brilliantly catchy "Chaos Arcane", leapfrogging the aforementioned "Where the Sun Is Silent" to return with Sammy Duet's Bathory-reminiscent riffing on "Drowned in Grim Rebirth" before landing on arguably the album's best song, the old school death metal banger "Mankind Will Have No Mercy". Throughout, Duet's sorcery-like conjuration of perfect riffs is the album's not-so-secret weapon, but with this track he really outdoes himself. Ostensibly a tribute to Bolt Thrower (per the press release), the tune is not only an admirable tribute to the UK legends, but also looks back successfully to the crunchy, mid-tempo 80's thrash bands that influenced Bolt Thrower as well.

Vengeful Ascension is the high water mark that Goatwhore have set for themselves thus far, although that may not be readily apparent upon the first or second listen. With repeated familiarity, though, the album's assets are gradually revealed, a newly expansive tool set that should greatly assist in avoiding any wheel spinning come the next album or maybe several.

Score: 9/10

Mosquitoes in Ascension, en garde: the ‘hunter-killer’ drone has arrived and is looking for you – The Advocate

GONZALES In the dystopian future portrayed by the movie franchise"Terminator," jet-powered drones with laser guns, known as "hunter-killers," scanned the planet from the skies to destroy the remnants of humanity.

Though Skynet, the artificial intelligence that controlled those fictional drones, may not yet be "self-aware," the drone future is now in Ascension Parish and under human control.

An $8,000, eight-propeller drone arrived Tuesday that parish government officials recently bought to spray and kill mosquito larvae in the waterways and other wet places where they grow in the parish.

---

---

"This is a great tool for us," said David Matassa, Ascension Parish's mosquito control director. "Because larvicide is the most important thing you can do for mosquitoes actually. You're at the birthplace of the mosquito. You're preventing them from becoming an adult."

Matassa and several parish employees were on hand late Tuesday morning at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center for a media demonstration of the drone that preceded a training session for workers in the Ascension Parish Mosquito Control department.

Adam Shaw, president and CEO of Maverick Drone Systems of Savage, Minnesota, and Logan Noess, company executive vice president, delivered the drone, unpacked it from its carrying case and extended the eight propeller arms until the tail-less craft reached its 4- to 5-foot width and was ready for flight.

The men then filled its three-gallon tank with bottled water, and Noess flew the drone with a remote control through several passes, spraying a small patch of a Lamar-Dixon field with the water.

Shaw said the drone, which is battery-powered and recharges in a regular electrical outlet, can cover seven to 10 acres in single battery charge.

Known as theDJI Agras MG-1,the drone was created for agricultural spraying. DJI is a Chinese drone manufacturer, and Maverick is the U.S. dealer for the Agras. Shaw said the craft has made spraying quicker, more efficient and more flexible than using planes or helicopters through traditional aerial spraying methods.

"The Agras has really revolutionized farming, agriculture and, certainly, the mosquito abatement community, which is why we're here," Shaw said.

While some parishes already use drones for mosquito surveillance, Matassa said Ascension is the first parish in Louisiana to use drones to kill mosquitoes or their offspring directly. But Matassa and Shaw said they expect the use of drones to expand quickly.

Shaw said he has received a lot of "really good feedback" from other parish governments in the state.

"I think this is something that is just going boom over here for the next three to five years," Shaw said.

He said his company has also been talking with law enforcement about using Maverick drones equipped with thermal cameras and other equipment that can be used for crime scene and car crash analysis. Shaw said company officials plan to meet with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office during their visit this week to Louisiana.

Shaw said his company has also gotten interest from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development for surveying and other uses.

Kyle Gautreau, Ascension Parish spokesman, said parish government could be looking at drones for other uses besides mosquito control, which he termed a pilot effort.

"If this works out really well, without a doubt, this will be explored by other departments for utilization," Gautreau said.

Ascension Parish's new drone doesn't have a camera, but flies by line of sight. Matassa said one parish employee is working on a federal license to fly the drone, and once the employee is licensed, spraying will start.

The parish will still use spray trucks and aerial spraying when needed to kill adult mosquitoes, but when the drone is in action, it will be spraying larvicide in hard to reach places.

"Next couple weeks, we'll be larviciding most probably area ditches, water lines and wherever there are low-lying areas that are hard to get to," Matassa said.

Final Fantasy 15: Ascension Guide – Grids to Focus on – USgamer

Here's how to navigate Ascension, Final Fantasy 15's skill tree system.

Guide by USgamer Team, 06/27/2017.

Final Fantasy 15 features fun, fluid combat that's heavily influenced by action games, but at its heart is your party's progression as you level up, and here that's marked by the Ascension system. With so many categories of upgrades and pathways of nodes, though, it can be difficult to plan ahead and know what to work towards. Here's our Final Fantasy 15 Ascension guide to get you started on filling in the Ascension trees.

For more guides, tips, and opinions on Final Fantasy XV, check out Final Fantasy 15: Guides, Tips, Cheats, and More.

Like most Final Fantasy games, you still get experience which lets you level up and increase your stats, but you also get AP which you can use in Ascension, a skill tree system similar in concept to Final Fantasy X's Sphere Grid, but a lot less constrained. It's divided into eight categories: Armiger, Magic, Recovery, Techniques, Combat, Teamwork, Stats, Exploration, and Wait Mode. You can truly tailor your character growth to your playstyle, but let us walk you through where you should get started.

You're going to want to first get some basic battle functionality up and running. Blink and Airstep under the Combat grid are absolute musts, as they help you stay more nimble and defensive in combat. Airstep in particular works extremely well with polearms, resulting in combos that feel a lot like the Jump Dragoon ability from previous Final Fantasy games when combined with Death Drop, which is in a neighboring node. In the Teamwork grid, get Link Up to boost link-strike damage, but more importantly, to get access to Deathblow, which lets you close out battles faster after you leave an enemy Vulnerable. Also make sure and grab Analyze right away so you can use Libra in battles to learn enemy weaknesses. Boosting your HP in the Stats grid is a good idea, but it's even more vital to give your party access to two accessories as soon as possible.

One thing you're going to want to heavily prioritize, though, is getting more techniques for your characters. Their initial ones, Piercer, Mark, and Tempest, all do damage in slightly different ways, but end up being somewhat redundant quickly. Prompto should switch over to Starshell as soon as possible, as it makes for an excellent distraction/debuff that can turn the tide of battle against daemons. Ignis needs to go a little deeper to get Enhancement, but it's worth it, as it allows him to infuse Noctis's attacks with whatever element the current enemy is weak against, which is huge considering you only have limited quantities of magic spells to work with. Gladiolus should stay the course when it comes to damage-dealing Techs, so start by getting Cyclone and working your way up the branches to see which one works best for you. Lastly, don't forget that you have to equip new techs to your characters in the Gear menu.

Don't neglect the Exploration grid, as the earlier you can get some nodes on there going, the sooner you can start to rake in more and more AP to use on even more nodes. Roadrunning, Happy Camping, and Appetize are the three that you're going to get the most use out of. Aside from those, focus on getting nodes of things that you like doing more of. If you like fishing, go down the Angler Action branch. If you're going to be riding on chocobos a lot, get Chocobump. If you like racing chocobos, get Chocojockey. There's even one for using elemancy, Magic Action, but it's on the Magic grid. It's worth getting, though, as the node before it, Powercraft, gives you a nice head start when crafting new magic. For more tips on how to gain AP fast, check out Final Fantasy 15: Tips for Earning AP Fast.

Finally, when you get access to the Armiger grid, get Iron Armiger right away, as it will make your Armiger attacks last longer.

Goatwhore Vengeful Ascension – mxdwn.com

CJ Brown June 26th, 2017 - 12:00 PM

Goatwhores latest release is everything one would expect from the New Orleans extreme metal giants. The introductory track, Forsaken, kicks off the album in a manner that is almost overwhelming to the senses. The guitar is persistent throughout the entire song and serves as a foundation for the sonic tomfoolery that surrounds it; the drums are seemingly everywhere, following no clear-cut path; and the ever so familiar over-the-top vocals add to the chaos but its awesome. Its almost as if this was set as the introductory track to weed out those that would be faint-hearted enough to falter and hit the stop button as opposed to continuing on through the rest ofVengeful Ascension. Soon, the album begins to take a more structured approach into the fray, seemingly fueled by purespeed and hatred, with emphasis on the latter.

Several tracks could be usedtoexemplify the character and musicianship found throughout the album, but Chaos Arcane comes first to mind. Itis a rich example of what Goatwhore have to offer musically and does not fail to leave the listener in awe by its end, whether it be from admiring or admonishing the composition. The persistent double bass onslaught in tandem with the masterful riffing from the guitars provides a sense of urgency that almost forces a physical response from the listener throughout.

Along with other songs such as Drowned In Grim Rebirth and Mankind Will Have No Mercy,Vengeful Ascensionexhibitsan incredibly strong foundation of skill, urgency and vulgarity wrapped in an easy to ingest form. As a whole it is an excellent album, as well as a great offering to the metal community in a year that has consistently set the bar high in terms of itsreleases thus far.

Lamar-Dixon Expo Center gym back in play after renovations – The Advocate

GONZALES The 36,000-square-foot gym at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center has gotten new life in a renovation that not only expands its sports capacity but broadens its appeal for other events.

"It's going to be a great asset for the community," said Travis Turner, Ascension Parish councilman and head of the council's recreation committee.

By removing space-consuming wooden bleachers andreplacing them with portable ones and by rearranging basketball goals, workers transfigured the gym's previous lone basketball court into two; the space has been reworked to add a second volleyball court, as well.

A new public address system, laminate wood floors and fresh paint make the gym, a free-standing building on the Lamar-Dixon grounds, almost like a new venue for all types of events.

"It will provide us with another opportunity to attract a diverse calendar of events to Lamar-Dixon that will appeal to a broader audience," Parish President Kenny Matassa said.

The $339,000 gym project came in early in May instead of July and about $10,000 under budget, said Martin McConnell, public information officer for the parish government.

Last month, the popular Senior Sock Hop dances the parish throws for older adults returned to the gym for the first timesince its upgrade.

A second, still unfunded phase, would expand the size of the gym building and add a third court.

"We'll keep working toward that end," Turner said.

Three years ago, Ascension Parish voters rejected by a large margin a proposed 10-year, 5-mill property tax that would have funded a new recreational complex at Lamar-Dixon, a new performing arts center and upgrades to all parish parks.

In the wake of the tax's failure, Turner pushed for funding for improvements to the gym alone.

Turner had originally sought funding for a $2 million renovation and expansion of the gym, but a budget amendment he proposed in late 2015 for the project died in committee, as Parish Council members wrangled over funding for recreational needs elsewhere in the parish.

Turner returned with a scaled-back version of the original gym plan, opting for a first phase that renovated the existing gym building with new courts for basketball or volleyball.

"The gym was inadequate," Turner said. "Individuals who wanted to play basketball and volleyball were underserved."

The renovation of the gym was due to begin last fall, but the August flood changed those plans, and the facility served as a major distribution center for meals after the disaster.

Work on the gym, which is called the Ascension Gym and has a lobby and concessions area, began in January.

The Lamar-Dixon Expo Center, off La. 30 just outside the Gonzales city limits and not far from the Tanger Outlet shopping center, has 90,000 square feet of air-conditioned display space in two other large buildings on the site, two open-air arenas and two recreational vehicle parks.

The renovated gym enhances "Lamar-Dixon's capacity as a general entertainment center in the parish and the capital city region and Gulf coast," said Kyle Gautreau, chief of staff for the Ascension Parish government.

House party turns into murder scene in Ascension Parish overnight – WBRZ

GONZALES A man was shot and killed at a large house party in Ascension Parish overnight when groups of people from out of town showed up and two started fighting.

Joshua Harris, 19, of Thibodaux, was arrested for the shooting death of Jerrod Brown, 25, also of Thibodaux. Deputies said bus loads of people from Lafourche, Terrebonne and Assumption showed up at the party on Superior Wood Avenue after midnight Saturday when a fight started between Brown and a girl. The girl's brother, Harris, got involved and opened fire with two guns, killing Brown, deputies said in a news release Saturday.

Harris was arrested after fleeing back to Thibodaux. As of Saturday morning, he had been returned to Ascension Parish where he was booked into jail on charges of second-degree murder, illegal discharge of a weapon, and possession of a firearm by convicted felon.

Harris has a lengthy criminal history with charges stemming from attempted second-degree murder, obscenity, armed robbery, aggravated second-degree battery, and simple robbery. Harris is currently on probation until July 2021.

More charges may be pending as this case is still under investigation.

Ascension reaches goal to reduce systemwide energy consumption 3 years early – FierceHealthcare

Ascension, the largest nonprofit health system in the U.S. and the worlds largest Catholic health system, has met the federal governments Better Buildings challenge goal of 20% energy reduction three years ahead of schedule.

From July 1, 2008, through December 1, 2016, the system has reduced energy usage by 21.4%, saving $53.3 million in costs and cutting more than 1.1 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions across 141 healthcare facilities, according to a recent announcement from Medxcel Facilities Management, a subsidiary of Ascension.

As a Catholic health ministry, environmental stewardship is part of Ascensions DNA, said Robert J. Henkel, president and chief executive officer of Ascension Healthcareand executive vice president of Ascension, who was an original sponsor of the energy efficiency initiative. Our mission calls us to sustain and improve the health of individuals and communities, and we know caring for the environment is an essential piece of that. From a mission standpoint as well as a value standpoint, it was the right thing to do.

The organizations Environmental Stewardship Program focuses on leadership and infrastructure, education and communication, food systems, energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable site and transportation, chemical management, and environmentally preferred purchasing and waste management.

Ascensions initiative began during the 2008 recession, when the incentive to reduce costs motivated the system to track energy use as the first environmental stewardship metric. After the system met its initial 5% energy-use reduction goal in 2011, Ascension committed to a 20% reduction in energy use by 2020 as part of the Department of Energys Better Buildings Challenge.

Ascension, which was then composed of 68 acute care facilities spread across 30 million square feet, joined 60 founding members and was one of two health systems originally involved in the program.

As hospitals became conscious of the value that came with improved energy efficiency, they began to ask about related strategies such as recycling programs, safer chemicals and environmentally preferred purchasing, Dan Scher, Ascension's senior director of planning, design and construction, said in the announcement. Energy efficiency is one of nine strategies the Ascension Environmental Stewardship Program has put in place to impact the health and wellness of the communities it serves.

Although the accomplishment is an achievement, just as significant is sustainability of the program, said Michael Argir, chief executive officer and president of Medxcel FM, in the announcement. We are leading the transformation of healthcare facilities management by offering a model that has a focus on ensuring an efficient and safe healing environment that positively impacts the communities we serve, said Argir. By achieving these goals ahead of schedule with our Environmental Stewardship Program, we are demonstrating that we take our impact on the communities seriously and strive to continue to improve the environmental footprint of the healthcare facilities we serve across the country.

Goatwhore, ‘Vengeful Ascension’ Album Review – Loudwire

Metal Blade Records

When a band has been around for a while, sometimes they mellow out as they age, but thats not the case with New Orleans veterans Goatwhore. Their brand of metal is as extreme as ever, evidenced on their latest slab of darkness, Vengeful Ascension.

Twenty years into Goathworescareer, frontman Ben Falgoust says they are still moving forward. I think every song on this record is pretty fking strong, Falgoust says. Each song is a representation of Goatwhore. from day one until now. It really shows our evolution as a band. I dont think that this band has reached its peak yet. I mean, I think were closer now than ever but were still growing; were still evolving.

Instead of their usual bludgeoning beginning, Forsaken kicks off the proceedings with thunderous drums and mid-tempo riffage. That groove continues with Under the Flesh, Into the Soul. The harsh vocals contrast with memorable guitar lines and a blazing solo from Sammy Duet.

While the songs on Vengeful Ascension are as heavy and extreme as usual, this time around they give them more room to breathe. Instead of nonstop brutality, theyll sneak in a brief slower or mellower section before resuming their assault. Even songs that you think will barrel along at maximum intensity throughout, such as Chaos Arcane, dial back to an ominous pace.

That slower tempo makes Where the Sun Is Silent extremely effective, as does the bluesy solo from Duet. As the album progresses, the diversity is even more evident with the Bolt Thrower-esque Mankind Will Have No Mercy and the black metal influenced closer Those Who Denied Gods Will.

The lyrical theme deals with the timeless battle between good and evil, with the cosmic battle applying to earthly concerns. If you look at it from an everyday aspect in life, its the idea of people, hitting the bottom of the barrel or you know, things just arent going right in life emotion plays a huge part in how people react, Falgoust explains.

He adds, Whether its based on love or hatred or sadness or whatever, theres always an aspect of emotion that drives people to an extent. So the whole idea of a Vengeful Ascension is built on being at the bottom, working your way to the top, and realizing along the way that theres other facets to the journey aside from just pure retribution. Within negativity there can exist a positive angle as well.

After working with producer Erik Rutan for the past four albums, this time around Goatwhore worked with Jarrett Pritchard, their live soundman. They wanted a sound that was raw and organic, closer to their live shows. Thats exactly what they got. He managed to effectively capture their power and energy while injecting the dynamics an album needs.

Vengeful Ascension has extremity black metal fans will dig, groove that will appeal to death metal aficionados and potent guitar work thrash lovers can appreciate.

5 arrested in alleged scheme to rob, beat man in Sorrento, Ascension deputies say – The Advocate

GONZALES Five suspects wanted in a robbery that left a man beaten, knocked unconscious and locked in the trunk of his abandoned car have been arrested on attempted first-degree murder and other counts, Ascension Parish sheriff's deputies said Thursday.

Authorities on Thursday booked David Joseph Gonday, 34, of Gonzales, and Richard Allen, 54, of Sorrento, the last two of the five suspects in the robbery scheme.

The two were booked into Ascension Parish Detention Center with counts of attempted first-degree murder, second-degree robbery and simple kidnapping, deputies said.

St. James and Ascension parish sheriffs' deputies announced earlier this week that they were looking for Gonday and Shane Redmond, 47, 7536 Vice President Lane, Baton Rouge, in the robbery. At the time, Allen had not been named as a suspect.

Deputies said then that Redmond and Gonday had confronted the victim on Panama Road near Sorrento and robbed him ofelectronics and clothing before leaving him in the car trunk earlier this month.

With all five in custody Thursday, authorities said that three other suspects were also involved and revealed more details of the robbery scheme.

Deputies said the victim thought he was headed to Allen's home on Panama Road to buy illegal drugs, but was being set up to be beaten and robbed in retribution for some past slight.

Heather Firmin, 40, who lives with Allen at 6100 Panama Road, Sorrento, had called the victim and told him to come over, deputies said.

"We think they lured him over there," said Lt. Col. Ward Webb, Ascension Parish sheriff's chief of operations.

Allen, Gonday and Redmond and a fourth man, Dustin Eddy, 36, 41120 Cannon Road, Gonzales, beat the victim until he was unconscious sometime in the evening hours of June 10 or early morning hours of June 11, Webb said.

St. James Parish sheriffs deputies found an abandoned vehicle along La. 70 in Convent on June 11 and discovered the victim in the trunk.

Webb said it is unclear what the suspects believe the victim may have done to them in the past.

The victim is in the hospital and deputies are reviewing whether to book him when he recovers, Webb said.

Redmond turned himself in Tuesday and was booked on counts of attempted first-degree murder, second-degree robbery and simple kidnapping, jail records show.

Firmin and Eddy were arrested June 15 on counts of being principals to attempted first-degree murder, second-degree robbery and simple kidnapping.Firmin was also booked on counts ofcriminal conspiracy and methamphetamine distribution. Her bail was set at $100,000, jail records say.Eddy has bail of $75,000.

Allen was also picked up June 15 but was only booked on counts of drug possession and drug paraphernalia and was later released on bail of $30,000. He was arrested again Thursday and booked in the robbery scheme.

Gonday, who was also booked on a probation violation, had bail of $80,000 set. Allen and Redmond were waiting on Thursday for bail to be set, online jail booking records say.

Inland waterways in Ascension, Livingston to close Thursday evening due to post-storm ‘hazards’ – The Advocate

GONZALES The Amite River and all other inland waterways in Ascension and Livingston parishes will be closed to recreational traffic starting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Ascension and Livingston Homeland Security officials said.

Hazards caused by Tropical Storm Cindy are forcing the closure, which will remain in place until further notice, Ascension homeland security officials said in a Facebook post.

The two parishes share the Amite, but other rivers and bayous also course throughout both parishes.

Rick Webre, director of the Ascension Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, said that floating debris was one factor in the decision to close the waterways but said high water in the Amite River Diversion Canal was also a major reason.

He said boat traffic through the high water in the canal is causing problems for homes and bulkheads that line portions of the waterway.

Mark Harrell, Webre's counterpart in Livingston Parish, said similar problems with wakes from boaters are being encountered on the Tickfaw River in the southeastern end of that parish.

Harrell said storm surge and wind from Cindy has swollen water levels on the river. The Tickfaw's mouth empties along the north shore of Lake Maurepas.

The order will close all boat launches in both parishes to recreational traffic.

Since making landfall Thursday morning, Cindy has been downgraded to a tropical depression by the National Weather Service.

Drink Doki Doki at Ascension Coffee – D Magazine

Ascension Coffee is now offering a highly caffeinated, nitro-infused cold brew called Doki Doki (the name is derived from the Japanese word that refers to the sound of a beating heart).

Here at Ascension Coffee, we aim to drive a unique and memorable coffee experience, says Ascension owner and master roaster, Russell Hayward. And are always looking for new and exciting ways to showcase our amazing coffee. We are a truly global coffee experience, and Doki Doki allows us to bring a unique Japanese technique to brewing an amazing coffee that is refreshing in the heat of the Texas summer.

The process:

Colombian coffee beans are placed into a Japanese cold brew tower. Water slowly drips (over a 12-hour period) to achieve a chocolatey and smooth cup of cold brew. After this process is complete, they nitrogenate it into kegs which gives the coffee a stout-like flavor and consistency.

So go order it. We know you want to, if only for the opportunity to say the word Doki.
