Computer Vision Group, Oxford Brookes University
The Computer Vision group in the Faculty of Technology at Oxford brookes University was formed in 2005 and is led by Professor Philip Torr. It comprises around 15-18 people. The aim of the group is to engage in state of the art research into the mathematical theory of computer vision and artificial intelligence, but to keep the mathematical research relevant to the needs of society. Members of the group have won major awards in all the main conferences in the field including the International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV), CVPR, ECCV, BMVC, NIPs as well as various thesis awards for the students, and industrial awards such as best Knowledge Transfer Partnership. The applications come in many forms, and we are involved with several major companies and organizations. With Sony we are working on human computer interaction (via a camera, the "EyeToy") for the Play Stations 2 and 3, with Sharp we have worked on generation of content for 3D displays, with Oxford Metrics Group we are working on computer understanding of films (eg what is the shape of objects in the scene etc) in order to make better special effects, we also work on motion capture of humans (and animals) in order to drive computer generated avatars, with Yotta PlC we are working on automated understanding of road scenes. We work on medical image analysis and on surveillence. We also do collaborative work with Microsoft Research, London, Cambridge and Oxford Universities.From:brookesvisionViews:13 1ratingsTime:09:59More inPeople Blogs

BIG BROTHER’S TAKE OVER! – Video

BIG BROTHER #39;S TAKE OVER!
Ray Kurzweil is looking forward to the year 2029.. That #39;s the year he predicts technology will be able to think without us mdash; aka the date that computers pass the Turing test. Our computers are growing more powerful at an exponential rate, and even Kurzweil is impressed by what we can do with artificial intelligence today. He #39;s been making the prediction that 2029 is the date for some time, and he repeated the date onstage at the DEMO Fall 2012 conference multiple times.. Kurzweil is widely known for creating the musical synthesizer, the Kurzweil Reading Machine, and other speech recognition technologies. He #39;s also made a name for himself through his interest in robots, his study of the brain, and for promoting the concept of the "Singularity," which is the point at which artificial intelligence exceeds human intelligence; he #39;s a cofounder (with Peter Diamandis) of Singularity University. Most recently he wrote the book How to Create a Mind: The Secret of Human Thought Revealed, which looks at how reverse engineering the brain helps us understand how artificial intelligence fits into the broader world.. He also made a comment about Apple #39;s Siri voice assistant and how far it still has to go. Kurzweil was directly involved in creating Nuance, which is the speech-recognition technology behind Siri.. Think of Iron Man movie. Tony Stark made a friend out of his technology, Jarvis. AI Independent Study Summary
The video shows the major points of my masters program independent study in artificial intelligence at Old Dominion University under Dr. Shuiwang Ji. Main features include: a* pathfinding (which I sent via git merge request to jgrapht to include with their library), behavior trees, and basic detection/reaction. The end of the video leaves the bots in a jumble... eventually they work themselves out and run from one strategic point to the other, passively shooting enemies as they soon become victims of a walk-by. Snippit of email to prof providing more explanation: I have researched further what we talked about and rolled out an implementation that seems to fit my initial goals. The major roadblock was the increasing scope of handling the artificial being behaviors in code - identifying places to go, moving, detecting, responding. I did feel comfortable with the theory behind behavior trees, and initially did a simple run (implementing the basic tree). After my initial run I was so happy I decided to go gung-ho and integrated java behavior trees into my project. It helped me separate divergent functionality so I can manage it better in my head. This also yielded several modular nodes I could use interchangeably, which could make me more easily develop much more complex behaviors. The video shows how I fleshed out my particular ai (what nodes I used and sequencing). The beginning of the video shows a snapshot of my behavior tree code including the use of what I named the ...From:narfman0Views:5 0ratingsTime:06:10More inGaming

Computer vision
This video explains what computer vision is for an assignment in artificial intelligence class at Cyprus University of Technology. I don #39;t own any rights for the pictures, this video is strictly for educational purposes in order for people to get to know what computer vision is. In short, computer vision seeks to develop algorithms that replicate one of the most amazing capabilities of the human brain inferring properties of the external world purely by means of the light reflected from various objects to the eyes. Qualitative Software Cost Estimation Using Fuzzy Cognitive Maps – Video

Qualitative Software Cost Estimation Using Fuzzy Cognitive Maps
Video Creators: Kyriakos Georgiou, Athina Paphitou, Christa Filippou Dr. Efi Papatheocharous holds a Ph.D. in the area of Software Engineering by the University of Cyprus and in this video we are presenting one of her works as presented at the Artificial Intelligence Techniques in Software Engineering Workshop, at the 18th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence that took place at Patras, Greece. "A fuzzy cognitive map model can be used as a software cost estimation tool by mapping all the factors that affect the software development process. The identification of these factors and the way they interact with each other is a product of research and knowledge of experts from 3 European countries. An easy way to understand a fuzzy cognitive map is by picturing it as a weighted, directed graph. Each node represents one of the eleven factors that are taken into consideration. Each edge in the graph represents the relationship between two nodes which can vary between [-1 and 1], meaning that an edge with a negative weight represents a negative effect between the two nodes in opposition to a positive weighted edge which represents a positive effect. The amount of quality of these factors, of course, differs from company to company and from project to project. This model can be a powerful forecasting tool for software project managers that will aid them to understand with accuracy the budget and time needed for a given project." - We have skipped some in-depth details from ...From:Ucyepl202Views:19 4ratingsTime:05:12More inEducation

Kount’s Artificial Intelligence Technology Combats Card-Not-Present Fraud

BOISE, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

In an industry built on privacy and security, Kount Inc. is unveiling one of the most unique aspects of its proprietary technology. Kounts proprietary technology platform includes artificial intelligence fraud detection methods that provide accurate, real-time assessments for card-not-present transactions, including mobile payments. Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is a powerful technology that learns from historical outcomes and then accurately detects fraudulent activity as it occurs in real time.

A cornerstone of Kounts AI technology is supervised machine learning a specialized branch of statistical learning theory that combines historical training data with predictive functions that process real time threat data. Supervised machine learning is a powerful component used in conjunction with tactical methods used to indentify fraudulent behavior as it is happening.

Fraudsters are becoming increasingly sophisticated, which makes it more and more difficult for merchants to differentiate good orders from bad ones, said Steve Rouse, COO at Kount. Kounts AI technologies, combined with other statistically relevant predictive models, provide our clients with best-in-class fraud detection. This unique combination of artificial intelligence and highly accurate predictive models learns on the go, detects and stops fraud, and allows Kounts clients to move confidently into new markets.

According to Rouse, Some of the huge challenges with using AI to detect fraud relates to the computational complexity of doing it in real time. Kount has solved these math problems, and reduced the overhead required to effectively deploy AI against evolving threats in real time. Kounts average response time is approximately 350 milliseconds, which makes it one of the fastest in the industry.

Kounts technology also minimizes the noise that is more common in neural network and Bayesian technologies used by some of its competitors. Rouse elaborates, Neural networks and Bayesian models are susceptible to noise, which is partly responsible for the high rate of false positives these models can generate. Kounts AI approach is more accurate because we deploy active filters to remove that noise and bias. This is a major reason Kount has much better performance than our competitors.

About Kount

Kount helps businesses boost sales by reducing fraud. Our all-in-one, SaaS platform simplifies fraud detection and helps online businesses accept more orders. Kounts turnkey fraud platform is easy-to-implement and easy-to-use. Kounts proprietary technology has reviewed hundreds of millions of transactions and provides maximum protection for some of the worlds best-known brands.Merchants using Kount can accept more orders from more people in more places than ever before. Artificial intelligence: an existential threat? – Video

Artificial intelligence: an existential threat?
How much of a risk do robots represent for humanity? Enough, apparently, to persuade Cambridge University to open a so-called #39;Terminator Centre #39; to examine the threat. The Centre for Existential Risk will open next year and look at whether advanced technology could pose a threat to humans by directing resources towards their own goals. Although some observers dismiss such concerns as the stuff of science fiction, the centre #39;s founders say we don #39;t know what the risks or when they might arise. There is also concern about already existing systems, such as robots designed to wage war. In a recent report, Human Rights Watch called for a ban on such systems, which it argues could not distinguish between soldiers and civilians. VoR #39;s Tom Spender discusses the threat posed by artificial intelligence with his guests: Dr Mark Bishop, Professor of Cognitive Computing at Goldsmiths College in London; Wendy Grossman, technology writer and founder of The Skeptic magazine; Noel Sharkey, Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at the University of Sheffield; and Nick Bostrom, Director of the Future of Humanity Institute at Oxford University.From:VoiceOfRussiaLondonViews:1 0ratingsTime:28:31More inNews Politics
