Congress to Hold Hearing on Antifa Violence – National Review

Rioters in Portland, Ore., July 26, 2020.(Caitlin Ochs/Reuters)

The Senate Subcommittee on the Constitution will hold a congressional hearing Tuesday on violence and criminal acts tied to Antifa.

The committee, chaired by Senator Ted Cruz (R., Texas), will hold a hearing titled The Right of the People Peaceably to Assemble: Protecting Speech by Stopping Anarchist Violence.

Americans have a constitutional right to gather, protest, and otherwise have their voices heard, but they must do so peacefully, Cruz said in a statement. Antifa is fundamentally against free-speech and is using peaceful protests as a cover and an excuse to engage in violence and other criminal actions.

Cruz pointed to Portland, where he said self-proclaimed anti-fascist criminals are trying to burn down the federal courthouse.

The hearing will highlight how Antifa and other anarchists are hijacking peaceful protests and engaging in political violence that is not only criminal, but antithetical to the First Amendment, he added.

The hearing will reportedly detail Antifas role in riots and feature witnesses including Department of Homeland Security acting deputy secretary Ken Cuccinelli, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas and co-head of the Department of Justice Task Force on Violent Anti-Government Extremists Erin Nealy Cox, journalist Andy Ngo and others, the Daily Caller reported.

Federal agents were deployed to Portland and a number of other cities in the wake of nationwide unrest following the death of George Floyd that has seen federal buildings, police offices and statues vandalized by rioters. Rioters in Portland injured a number of federal agents after launching fireworks at them and shining lasers at their eyes.

While many lawmakers have denounced violence caused by Antifa, others, like Representative Jerry Nadler (D., N.Y.) have called it a myth.

Department of Homeland Security intelligence officials are targeting activists it considers antifa and attempting to tie them to a foreign power, according to a DHS intelligence report obtained exclusively by The Nation.Ad Policy

The intelligence report, titled The Syrian Conflict and Its Nexus to the U.S.-based Antifascist Movement, mentions several Americans, including a left-wing podcast host who traveled to Syria to fight ISIS. The report includes these individuals personal information, including their Social Security numbers, home addresses, and social media accounts, much of the data generated by the DHSs Tactical Terrorism Response Teams. As the intelligence report states, ANTIFA is being analyzed under the 2019 DHS Strategic Framework for Countering Terrorism (CT) and Targeted Violence.

Dated July 14, the document, marked for official use only and law enforcement sensitive, draws on a blend of publicly available information and state and federal law enforcement intelligence. It was provided to The Nation by a source who previously worked on DHS intelligence.

They targeted Americans like theyre Al Qaeda, a former senior DHS intelligence officer with knowledge of the operations told The Nation. The officer, who served for years in the DHSs Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A), compared the operations to the illegal surveillance of activists during the civil rights era. They essentially were violating peoples rights like this was the 60sthe type of shit the Church and Pike committee[s] had to address.Whither Antifa

While the law generally prohibits intelligence agencies from spying on US residents, many of those protections do not apply if the individual is believed to be acting as an agent of a foreign power.

Designating someone as foreign-sponsored can make a huge legal and practical difference in the governments ability to pursue them, explained Steven Aftergood, who heads the Project on Government Secrecy at the Federation of American Scientists. Its a crucial distinction. Once someone (or some group) is identified as an agent of a foreign power, they are subject to warrantless search and surveillance in a way that would be illegal and unconstitutional for any other US person. The whole apparatus of US intelligence can be brought to bear on someone who is considered an agent of a foreign power.Current Issue

Last week the DHS reassigned its intelligence chief after The Washington Post revealed that the agency had been compiling intelligence reports on American journalists and activists in Portland, Ore. In response to President Trumps executive order to protect monuments and other federal property, the DHS created the Protecting American Communities Task Force, which sent DHS assets to Portland and other cities. The agency has found itself in transition under the Trump administration. They are always pressuring I&A for political reasons. Its been like that since the election, the former intelligence officer said.

This weekend, Politico reported that DHS Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli loosened oversight of I&A. Cuccinelli, at I&As request, curtailed the requirement that the DHSs Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties approve I&As intelligence products before distribution to law enforcement partners.

The intelligence reports executive summary states:

In June 2020, U.S. Customs and Border Protections (CBP) National Targeting Center (NTC) Counter Network Division (CND) compiled CBP encounter data on individuals who returned from Syria and fought with the Yekneyn Parastina Gel (YPG, translation: PEOPLES PROTECTION UNITS), and had some with reported ties to a U.S.-based ANTIFA (Anti-fascist) movement. CBP concerns about and interest in these individuals stem from the types of skills and motivations that may have developed during their time overseas in foreign conflicts.

These skills were also appreciated by the US military, which cooperated with the YPG in fighting ISIS for years. Last year Trump enraged many in the US military when he green-lit a Turkish offensive against the Kurdish militia. Jim Mattis reportedly resigned as defense secretary in part because of what he considered a betrayal of our Kurdish allies.

If you like this article, please give today to help fund The Nations work.

The intelligence report describes over half a dozen people who traveled to Syria in order to fight alongside Kurdish factionsusually the YPG but also other Kurdish groups like the PKK and the Peshmerga. Some of the individuals described have denied membership in antifa but variously identified with far-left causes. The DHS appears to define antifa broadly to encompass various left-wing tendencies: Antifa is driven by a mixed range of far-left political ideologies, including anti-capitalism, communism, socialism, and anarchism. In two cases, evidence of antifa affiliation was limited to photos taken in front of an antifa flag. As the intelligence report notes, ANTIFA claims no official leadership, raising questions about whether antifa even exists in any sort of operational capacity.

The first individual mentioned in the intelligence report, Brace Belden, cohosts the popular left-wing podcast TrueAnonand fought with the YPG in 2016. The information appears to be partly drawn from a 2017 article on him in Rolling Stone, which described him as a minor criminal and drug addict who started reading Marx and Lenin in drug rehabilitation treatment and became involved in a number of political causes before deciding to fight alongside the YPG.

The report says of an encounter between Belden and border authorities:

U.S. citizen (USC) Brace BELDEN was encountered on 08 April 2017, arriving in San Francisco, California from Frankfurt, Germany. BELDEN was returning from a six month tour of volunteering to fight with the YPG under the umbrella of the Syrian Democrat Forces (SDF) fighting ISIS in Syria as part of the ongoing Raqqa offensive starting in November 2016 to retake Raqqa from ISIS. BELDEN stated he recently learned that an open source article had been written about him and his Anarchist fighters.

Belden scoffed at the association. I am not now, nor have I ever been a member of any antifa organization, he told The Nation. The US government has been spying on and smearing communists for 100 years, but they usually have the decency not to call a Red an anarchist.

There appears to be a clear connectionbetween ANTIFA ideology and Kurdish democratic federalism teachings and ideology, the intelligence report states. At least one of the activists listed is described as ethnically Kurdish.

On May 31, Trump vowed to designate antifa a terrorist organization. While antifa groups have engaged in acts of property destruction, antifa has not been linked to a single killing in the United States, according to data compiled in the past 25 years by the Center for Strategic and International Studies. By contrast, the same data found that far-right extremist groups killed 329 people.

The intelligence report appears to conclude that the individuals described were not acting on behalf of a foreign groupsave for one unnamed person.

Aside from a single instance derived from open-source reporting, there does not appear to be evidence of a centralized effort to give marching orders to returning ANTIFA-affiliated USPER [US person] foreign fighters once they return to the United States.

Social media rumor of militant gathering in Weatherford draws more than 200 counterprotesters – The Dallas Morning News

A social media rumor that militant and other groups were going to protest in Weatherford prompted more than 200 counterprotesters, many of them armed, to show up at the county courthouse Saturday, the Weatherford Democrat reported.

Sgt. Matthew Chalmers, a Weatherford police spokesman, said counterprotesters began gathering near the courthouse around 8 a.m., but the groups that were rumored to be planning a demonstration never showed.

The information that was floating around social media was that there was going to be several hundred people coming from [Black Lives Matter] and Antifa ... to protest the statue on the courthouse square, Chalmers said. As a result, we had several counterprotest group get on social media as well to gather and come to Weatherford.

The Weatherford Democrat reported that many of the counterprotesters carried shotguns, rifles and semi-automatic weapons.

Ive seen whats going on around the world, like Minneapolis, a resident named Curtis, who asked that his last name to be withheld, told the outlet. He was carrying a semi-automatic rifle. He said he served 10 years in the U.S. Marines and told the outlet that he came to protect his hometown.

I dont want that to come here to Texas, he said. This is where we live and where we raise our families. We dont want to see any of that violence and chaos. Were not out here to incite any violence, were just here to let them know that the citizens dont want them busting in from other places telling us how our city should run. Its pretty much that simple.

The Democrat reported that the courthouse was surrounded by barricades Saturday morning, and that Weatherford police, the Parker County Sheriffs Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety were on the scene.

Parker County commissioners voted last month not to remove a Confederate monument from the courthouse lawn, a decision that prompted large protests. One such demonstration on July 25 has resulted in six arrests, the Democrat reported.

On Thursday, Weatherford Police Chief Lance Arnold told the Democrat that the department was aware of rumors circulating that outside groups planned to protesting at the courthouse over the weekend.

We have seen a tremendous amount of false and untruthful information about Antifa and other groups coming to Weatherford, Arnold said. Some social media posts even indicate they received their information about massive rallies in Weatherford from WPD. We have not told anyone that, and we have no evidence of any such activity this weekend.

Cruz, ahead of Antifa hearing, describes riots in US cities as organized terror attacks – Fox News

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is aiming to highlight the role Antifa and like-minded groups are playing in riots across the country, convening a Senate hearing Tuesday on the issue whilealleging thatradical left-wing groups are engaging in "organized terrorattacks" designed to tear down government institutions.

Across the country, were seeing horrific violence, were seeing our country torn apart. Violent anarchists and Marxists are exploiting protests to transform them into riots and direct assaults on the lives and safety of their fellow Americans, Cruz told Fox News in an interview.

SEN CRUZ: DEMOCRATIC POLITICIANS SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR 'LETTING THEIR CITIES BURN'

On Tuesday, Cruz will chair ahearing ofthe Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on the Constitutionto investigate groups such as Antifa, which, while active for years, have recently escalated their presence in the wake of George Floyd's death in police custody. The hearing is called "The Right of the People Peaceably to Assemble: Protecting Speech by Stopping Anarchist Violence.

Speakers will include Acting Deputy Homeland Security Secretary Ken Cuccinelli, journalist Andy Ngo and law professor Jonathan Turley. It comes after two months of protests and violent riots hit downtown Portland, where rioters have attacked the Hatfield Courthouse and clashed with federal law enforcement protecting it.

As part of his opening statement, Cruz will playa video to the committee thatshowspeaceful protests led bycivil rights leaders such asMartin Luther King Jr., and contrasts themwith the violence committed by Antifa and similar groups.

"These violent riots are not spontaneous, nor are they mere coincidences. Instead, the evidence suggests they are organized terrorattacks designed to instill fear and tear down the fundamental institutions of government. This hearing is designed to understand who is driving the violence, who is driving the assaults, who is driving the murders, and what their objective is, Cruz said.

Law enforcement in Portland were blinded by lasers, assaulted and doxed online. But local and state officials backed the protesters and accused the Trump administration of having escalated the situation with their presence, as well as "kidnapping" protesters. Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and DHS came to an agreement late last month on a phased withdrawal for law enforcement, conditional on the courthouse being protected.

But Portland is one of a number of cities that have been hit by unrest amid broader protests, some of them peaceful, since the death of George Floyd in May. Cruz asserts that the violence is not a natural offshoot of peacefulprotests against police brutality-- and he wants to get to the bottom of who is responsible.

"The hearing will assess who is driving the violence, who is driving the assaults, who isdriving the fires, who isdriving the explosions, who isdriving the murders, why are they doing so, how are they doing so and what do they hope to achieve through violent acts of terror?" he told Fox News.

PORTLAND RECORDS DEADLIEST MONTH IN 30 YEARS: REPORT

As well as Antifa, Cruz also wants the hearing to look at Black Lives Matter. He makes a distinction between the statement black lives matter, which he calls unquestionably true, and the organization Black Lives Matter -- which has called for people to disrupt the "Western-prescribednuclear familystructure"and defundpolice departments.

The actual organization denominated Black Lives Matter was created by avowed Marxists pursuing a radical agenda including defunding police departments across the country and that agenda, if implemented, would have the consequence of a great many more Black lives being lost, Cruz said.

The hearing comes after Cruz last month introduced the RECLAIM Act which would hold state and local officials liable for private property damage caused by rioters if those officials had given a stand-down order to police or had allowed rioters to establish an autonomous zone as happened recently in Seattle

Cruz says he hopes there is common ground with the Democratic minority in the Senate: All of us should be able to come together and say don't assault other Americans, don't burn their homes or businesses to the ground, dont murder police officers.

However, he notes that a number of Democrats, both locally and nationally, have criticized the actions of law enforcement in places like Portland. Oregons Democratic congressional delegation demanded investigations into federal activity while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called officers stormtroopers -- a remark that outraged Cruz and others.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

When Nancy Pelosi calls federal law enforcement officers stormtroopers and that is a term that hearkens back to Nazi Germany, when she wrongfully alleges that they are kidnapping Americans, that is a grotesque lie, and a slander and it endangers the lives of law enforcement, he said.

It reflects the very unfortunate political determination that a lot of Democrats have made -- that given the choice between standing with innocent Americans or violent terrorists seeking to hurt their fellow citizens, to date too many of them have stood with terrorists, he said.

No positive light on ANTIFA | Letters to the Editor | citizensvoice.com – Wilkes-Barre Citizens Voice

Editor: A letter writer recently tried to shed a positive light on Antifa (July 16). If you do a google search on Antifa you will find this information on Wikipedia:

Individuals involved in the movement tend to hold anti-authoritarian and anti-capitalist views, subscribing to a range of left-wing ideologies such as anarchism, communism, Marxism, social democracy and socialism. Both the name Antifa and the logo with two flags representing anarchism and communism are derived from the German Antifa movement.

The Anti-Defamation League states that the label Antifa should be limited to those who proactively seek physical confrontations with their perceived fascist adversaries.

Police in Tacoma, Washington, rushed to the local Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility. An armed man was firebombing the building and nearby vehicles. Police shot and killed him after he attempted to set off a large propane tank connected to the facility. Antifa social media accounts subsequently identified their fallen comrade as Willem Van Spronsen.

Andy Ngo, a gay journalist, was left hospitalized with a brain hemorrhage after a mob of mask-clad rioters beat and robbed him while he was covering a demonstration in downtown Portland, Oregon. The attack, claimed by Rose City Antifa, was caught on videos that went viral online.

There are many examples like the above. When you see a group dressed head to toe including full masks in black beating people with clubs, destroying property, and extremely violent it most probably is Antifa.

This is not a benign group. If you get in their way, God help you. This is a group that uses violence to destroy the USA by causing anarchy and install communism. For God and country do not allow them to achieve their goal.

Was this antifa recruitment site actually created by Ben Shapiro? – The Daily Dot

An antifa recruitment website is raising eyebrows, not just for its overall sketchy nature, but because Ben Shapiro was tied to the site through its source code.

The site, braverthanthetroops.org, requires visitors who want to sign up to join the fight against fascism to input their full name, email, city, state, and a comment/message.

Sign up below to be notified of rallies in your neighborhood. You will also get periodic messages from the leader of Antifa, the site reads. D.C. is the area code for the phone number listed, 202-643-5375, and it urges visitors to leave a voicemail so that a comrades can get in touch. All emails and voicemails collected become public domain, fine print at the bottom of the apparent honeypot reads.

People online first speculated that the site was created by a government agency looking to collect information on anti-fascist protesters. But upon further inspection, the site appeared to have either been created by Shapiro or someone trolling the conservative commentator by making it look like he created it.

Welcome to Your New Site Mr. Shapiro Check for your welcome email at [emailprotected], part of the source code reads.

Anyone can view a sites source code, so some are refusing to believe Shapirono matter how terrible (he is) at everything he doesis sloppy enough to leave such a public trail behind.

And they are right. The biggest clue as to who created the site is the hyperlink added to the text: leader of Antifa. The link redirects visitors to a tweet by Adam Rahuba, who is known for trolling the far-right.

Here is your message from the LEADER OF ANTIFA. There is no leader of Antifa. There is no organization to join, Rahubas tweet reads. The honeypot is a troll to fuck with far-right dorks like this crazy weirdo who left a voicemail on our fake hotline.

Rahuba told the Daily Dot he was inspired to create the fake site following the success of his Gettysburg prank in which he tricked far-right counter-protesters into attending a fake antfia rally at Gettysburg National Military Park. Hundreds showed up to the protest under the impression antifa would be burning American flags. Only, they showed up to protest nothing and confront no one.

Rahuba said that even though it is now public knowledge he is the sites creator, he still thinks a good number of far-right individuals will still fall for it. Rahuba added that he played to peoples perception of Bens intelligence by leaving Shapiros name and email in the source code. I think that Ben would actually unintentionally make a blunder like that, Rahuba said.

Rahuba also included in his tweet audio featuring a voicemail left by a man who goes on an over minute-long rant comparing antfia and Black Lives Matter protesters to Nazis. Your time is coming motherfuckers, the man says. You come to my town, starting this shit, I guarantee you, youll be left in fucking body bags. Rahuba also plugged his Venmo, @PPN412, for people who want to support dunking on the right-wing and help him grab a meal or pay rent.

Trump on Fox News pushes conspiracy theory that George Soros is funding Antifa – Haaretz

U.S. President Donald Trump pushed the conspiracy theory that George Soros is funding Antifa duringan interview with Fox News on Wednesday.

In a wide ranging interview with "Fox & Friends," Trump and the co-hosts were discussing the recent wave of protests in the U.S. and was asked who is funding the protesters. Trump responded,"You have Democrats funding them. They say Soros and they say other people."

Trump was referring to George Soros, the billionaire investor and philanthropist who haslong been a targetof conspiracy theories. Soros has recently been falsely accused of orchestrating and funding the protests over police killings of Black people that have roiled the United States. Amplified by a growing number of people on the far right, including some Republican leaders, online posts about Soros have skyrocketed in recent weeks.

They have been accompanied by online ads bought by conservative groups that call on authorities to investigate George Soros for funding domestic terrorism and his decades-long corruption.

As some of the protests that broke out in the wake of the killing of George Floyd turned violent, many pointed their finger at the far-left group in addition to far-right groups, claiming they came to stoke more unrest.

Soros, 89, has donatedbillionsofdollarsof his personal wealth to liberal and anti-authoritariancausesaround the world, making him a favored target among many on the right. The Hungarian-American, who is Jewish, has also been the subject ofantisemitic attacksand conspiracy theories for decades.

White House speech

Trump also said he will probably give his Republican presidential nomination speech live from the White House, although the plans have not been confirmed yet.

"We're thinking about it. We're thinking about doing it from the White House," he said. " It's the easiest alternative. It would be by far the least expensive from the country's standpoint."

"I'll probably do mine live from the White House."

He said that plan was not firm because somebody had difficulty with it, but did not elaborate.

The coronavirus outbreak in the United States, where deaths have been averaging more than 1,000 a day in recent weeks, has thrown several wrenches into the Republican Party's plans for its nominating convention, initially set for Charlotte, North Carolina.

Trump already moved part of the convention from North Carolina to Florida because of restrictions on gathering due to the virus, but the surge in cases had led some Republicans to pull out of attending the Florida event.

Last month, Trump said he would no longer hold part of the nominating convention in Jacksonville, Florida, in August because of a spike in coronavirus cases in the state.

WWE Reveals Antifa-Type Group, and Fans Are Confused and Mad – PopCulture.com

There is a new faction in WWE, and fans aren't sure what to think of it. On WWE Raw, broadcaster Tom Phillips showed the fans surveillance camera footage of a group of unknown men and women wearing black attire with hoodies throwing firebombs at a transformer outside the WWE Performance Center. They began cheering once the transformer was set on fire.

Hours before Raw, WWE announced a new faction was coming to "cause chaos" in the company. It also said the members of the stable would not be immediately revealed as they being kept close to the vest. As mentioned by Wrestling Inc., the idea behind the faction is to get the attention of WWE officials so they would "loosen control" over the WWE SuperStars and change the way to company operates on the day-to-day basis.

The big issue with this is fans began comparing the group to Antifa, which has led demonstrations all over the U.S. this summer. WWE is not making the group of a political affair as it's specific to a storyline. Regardless, the new faction isn't what fans were expecting and showed their frustration on social media.

(OPINION) Riots, Mayhem, Obstructionism, and Existential Threats – News Talk 1340 KROC-AM

The opinions expressed in this post belong solely to the author and should not be construed to represent the views of Townsquare Media, News-Talk 1340 KROC-AM and 96.9 FM, or anyone else associated with the organizations.

The violent riots continue, aided and abetted by Democrat politicians and Leftists who want the disruptions, COVID-19 lockdowns, and economic uncertainties to continue so Trump is defeated in 2020.

The ever-partisan Rep. Jerry Nadler had the audacity and ignorance, while not wearing his mask, to assert the claim of Antifa-BLM urban violence is a myth.

The shortsighted closing of schools is stimulating parental choice for private and charter schools and homeschooling. Public schools that dont open should be defunded, and that money given for parents and students use.

Law officers have been killed, maimed, and allegedly blinded by Antifa-Black Lives Matter thugs. Los Angeles police grew tired of Antifa women attacking them verbally and physically and retaliated with arrests and body slamming them to the ground. Police deprived by politicians of non-lethal crowd control weapons have refused to provide security at public events.

As others have observed, Democrats are worried that voters are increasingly angry and rejecting the mostly peaceful Antifa-BLM rioter claim. The latest Leftist lunacy is that the anarchist violence is led by white supremacists and federal police.

President Trump is blamed by Democrats and the media for the riots and China virus. Trump fights back against attempts to demonize and remove him from office. Democrats dont accept election results if they lose.

Supporters of Trump didnt put him in office to compromise with his antagonists. His supporters want him to stop destructive Leftist policies and drain the Deep State swamp of globalists, DOJ/FBI seditionists, and elitist media and academic extremists who side with Communist China, They are the existential threats to America, not alleged human-caused climate change.

Eminent historian Victor Davis Hanson said, America doesnt have to be perfect to be good, and those who try to expunge American history are a minority of the population who dont care about icons and statues, but only the humiliation of political opponents and acquisition of political power.

Noted historian Arthur Herman believes President Trump has dealt successfully with unprecedented domestic crisis and global issues, has challenged the wisdom and decisions of so-called experts, and will be supported in the election of 2020 by voters who will never judge Trump as harshly as the media does. Herman said President Obama sought to manage American decline, while Trump seeks to restore American pride and economic growth.

American Thinker columnist Trevor Thomas summarized it well: Ignorant mandates, businesses and schools closed, statues torn down, knees at the National Anthem, hateful acts, and violence toward police further motivates me to cast my ballot for Donald Trump.

Hopefully, the predicted huge numbers of the Silent and Silenced Majority get to the polls to reelect President Trump and crush the anti-American radical Left. As voters increasingly conclude that the Democrats, Antifa, and BLM are the cause of the chaos, the election should tilt to Trump.

The insurrection must be defeated because, as Civil War president Abraham Lincoln asserted, A House (nation) divided against itself cannot stand.

Our country is at a turning point in terms of police protection | News, Sports, Jobs – Gloversville Leader-Herald

What a dangerously stupid notion. You might as well, Cry Havoc, and Let Slip the Dogs of War!, for that is certainly what would happen if the police were defunded. In such a disorganized and dangerous world, civilization itself would soon follow the police authorities into oblivion.

At this juncture, I need to make an important point: This is not about George Floyd, nor his family and friends, nor those who have come together in anger, sorrow, and solidarity with those who knew George personally. Nor those who choose to protest strenuously but peaceably!

What this is about are the throwers-of-Molotov-cocktails, the anarchists, the insurrectionists, and other assorted terrorists.

Im talking about the self-righteous barbarians who have been going around blithely torching businesses large and small, defacing or destroying important landmarks, religious buildings, and anything else that can be defaced or burned. Often done in Floyds name, the barbarians, in truth, do not give a damn about George Floyd. What they really want is radical change, possibly some form of alternative government one that is conducive to their own advancement. Or better still a state of perpetual anarchy to replace the prevailing peace and tranquility. As I said, I suspect that some of these uncouth barbarians harbor dreams of becoming authority figures in a brave new world. God forbid.

Obviously, the police are a vital bulwark against civil unrest and all manner of criminal activity. A case that comes to mind arose in September 2009; it involved a group of terrorists led by a man named Najibullah Zazi, an Afghan-American citizen with militant Islamic leanings. He and his small band sought to bring death and destruction to New York City subways. An NYPD/FBI joint task force thwarted the plot and arrested the individuals involved. Now I ask you, how could a defunded NYPD have been at all helpful in spoiling Zazis plans? (Yes, its a rhetorical question. I also admit to having strayed slightly from my stated purpose, but then I needed an extreme example of lawlessness to show how important the police really are.)

Now, who are the barbarians? They are in groups like Antifa, who place themselves at the forefront of unrest, wherever it may appear. Antifa members are cowards, covering their faces with black masks to avoid identification. These self-appointed, wanna-be ninjas gang up on defenseless targets, whom they attack like wolves: four or five Antifa members mugging each victim, and each victim is an individual who doesnt buy the barbarians nihilistic bulls*** philosophy.

The latest barbarian fad is to destroy or deface statues supposedly representing evil Americans. What a load of priggish crap! In their impatience and reckless carelessness, Antifa (and followers) display a woeful ignorance of American history. How else could you explain the defilement of Matthias Baldwins statue in Philadelphia? Baldwin was a noted abolitionist. Go figure!

Having written about the miscreants activities and goals, I turn now to a brief appraisal of the police authorities. And in doing so, I will bring the discussion to the local level by mentioning the Gloversville Police Department.

I moved from Montclair, N.J. to Gloversville in 2002 the cost of living in the tri-state area having become too costly for my wallet. However, having lived in Montclair for 44 years, I had ample time to familiarize myself with the towns affairs.

Its a very wealthy town and can afford the best in police protection.

I suspected that Gloversville would not be able to live up to Montclairs example. I could not have been more wrong. I have found that, as with Montclairs police force, the local constabulary is well-trained, with its officers exhibiting courteousness, professionalism, and intelligence. However, if you are drunk and obnoxious, or combative as some people are, you might not witness the courteous side of the officers.

Thumbs up then for the Gloversville police! But lets go one better: Local residents and businesses might donate funds to provide our police with body-cams. Such a plan would benefit almost everyone.

Meanwhile, our country is at a turning point; what we do today will determine our childrens tomorrow for better or for worse.

A logical consequence

of too many guns?

The National Rifle Association argues we need more, not fewer, guns to be safe.

They would have us believe that only a "good guy with a gun" can stop a " bad guy with a gun."

So what are we to do when a "good guy with a gun" shoots another "good guy with a gun?" Isnt that a logical consequence of too many guns?

Richard W. Rew, Austin

Not wearing a mask and

complicit in her demise

Re: Aug. 5 article, "Too many are selfish: U.S. nears 5 million cases."

Quoting from the Aug. 5 article, Veronica Fritz said, "I won't wear a mask unless I absolutely have to," and "... I believe God will take me where I'm supposed to go. So if I get COVID and I die from COVID, it's not my decision."

Really? Isn't she complicit in her demise with this line of thinking? And, those she will take with her when she goes may have other plans. James 4:17 states, "If you know the right thing to do and don't do it, that, for you, is evil".

Jeri Porter, West Lake Hills

Investigation should

extend beyond antifa

Sen. Cruz,

I understand you (held) a hearing on the alleged "antifa" agitators infiltrating the Black Lives Matter protests. Antifa stands for "anti-fascist," so I hope that you will also investigate:

* White supremacists such as the "Umbrella Man" vandalizing property during the George Floyd protests in Minneapolis, falsely blamed on "antifa."

* The Lafayette Square assault by federal agents.

* Federal agents in camouflage uniforms dispatched to cities run by mayors of the opposing political party, without their request, to intimidate citizens exercising their First Amendment rights and forcibly detaining citizens in unmarked vehicles.

* A lack of similar action toward armed protesters shouting to be allowed onto the House floor during a protest at the Michigan state Capitol against the states COVID-19 safety measures.

Will historians be called to testify, comparing these actions to those of fascist groups that toppled democracies in Germany, Italy and Argentina in the past century?

Like an old-style duel, but

random and anonymous

Regarding the Black Lives Matter killing, Austin police union president (Ken) Casaday tweeted that (Garrett) Foster "was looking for confrontation and he found it." Actually, that might be said of both men.

Texas allows men to legally carry their guns into some emotionally charged situations and encounter other armed men with opposing views. There, someone who believes he sees a threatening gesture, can kill, claim self-defense and expect to be held blameless. Its just like an old-fashioned duel, only more random and anonymous. I wonder what civilized people would think of such an arrangement.

Just the extreme chaos

the Russians were after

Love conspiracy theories? Trump is the most obvious one. Did you read the Mueller report? Of course not, why bother with factual investigations! The Russians used bots to divide our country even more than it already was, creating chaos with misinformation. Whether wittingly or not, Trump has greatly assisted that goal. Is it really that hard to see, folks?

He sucks up to Putin and alienates our allies, denies science, panders to racists and lies with every breath he takes while doing nothing about COVID-19 except trying to con you believers into voting for him again. Now we have the extreme chaos that Russia wanted and an upcoming election that he will undoubtedly contest.

Putin's stooge has excelled at his task, dooming this country and every democracy in the world if elected again. Read "The Manchurian Candidate." Makes for a great conspiracy theory.

GWU law prof: Antifa is winning, colleges are helping – Campus Reform

George Washington University Law ProfessorJonathan Turley testified Tuesday before Congress, in which he warned lawmakers that Antifa is "winning" and that much of academia, whether wittingly or unwittingly, is complicit in its success.

"They are winning because universities are now effectively blocking conservative or opposing speakers to avoid violent clashes. They are winning because the media and politicians downplay such violence to avoid criticism. They are winning because local officials are ordering police to stand down or prosecutors to drop charges to avoid further conflict. They are winning because free speech itself is being viewed as a destabilizing factor in our schools and society. Antifa has achieved its anti-free speech agenda to a degree that even longtime critics never imagined possible. It only took inaction from our government and silence from our citizens," Turley said during his testimony.

"They are winning because universities are now effectively blocking conservative or opposing speakers to avoid violent clashes."

He told the Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee that Antifa is "winning," according to the testimony. Turley cited a GWU student, an alleged Antifa ringleader, who stated that the movement is winning following his arrest for taking down statues in Washington, D.C.

[RELATED: Colleges 'allow Antifa to work under their noses,' former member says]

Former Antifa activist and supporter Gabriel Nadales, who is now a conservative activist who works for Campus Reform's parent organization, the Leadership Institute, told Campus Reform, "Antifa is indeed winning. Their efforts have intimidated dozens of city councils around the country into submission. By neutering police response, city councils send a strong message to Antifa that they can burn down cities without any consequences."

Nadales noted that Antifa is not opposed to fascism, even though it stands for anti-fascism, and will stop at nothing to destroy anyone who disagrees with them. Antifa is known for fascism despite its name, attacking critics, journalists, and scholars alike, according to the testimony of Turley. The organization was created to oppose free speech as it feels the right to free speech is a tool of oppression," Turley added.

The group was not originally on college campuses but has since infiltrated them, and used colleges as a way to grow.

"When I was in Antifa it was a fringe movement," Nadales added. "But now countless professors and mainstream figures support Antifa because they think it is an ally against Trump. But Antifa is not an ally and [is] more than willing to attack any liberals who dare to stand in their way."

Turley indicated that free speech advocates are few and far between on college campuses as Antifa and others who take a strong disliking to opposing views are more prevalent at American colleges.

[RELATED: Antifa set up a recruitment shop at University of Florida]

To Antifa, people like me are the personification of the classical liberal view of free speech that perpetuates a system of oppression and abuse, Turley said in his testimony. I wish I could say that my view remains strongly implanted in our higher educational institutions. However, you are more likely to find public supporters for restricting free speech than you are to find defenders of free speech principles on many campuses.

Antifa, once again at center stage in riots around the country, have long been initiators of violence in America.

However, public officials publicly stated that Antifa does not even pose a threat.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler recently called instances of Antifa violence a myth."

If we are to preserve this defining right, Congress must do something that it has historically failed to do: protect the free speech rights of political minorities in our school and on our streets, Turley said in his closing remarks. Antifa and related groups thrive through intimidation, but they prevail through inaction. All that is required for free speech to die in America is for America to be silent.

Turley did not respond to Campus Reform for further comment regarding his testimony in time for publication.

Are Armed Antifa Coming to Austin This Weekend? – Heavy.com

GettyPeople walk down 7th Street in Austin after a vigil for Garrett Foster on July 26, 2020 in downtown Austin.

Rumors are circulating that groups associated with Antifa may be protesting in Austin, Texas on Saturday night, August 1, possibly targeting the Austin Police Department or local residential buildings downtown. Meanwhile, a group planning a protest to defund the police on Saturday night has said that they are not planning any violence, and some people on social media have said theyve seen armed conservative groups in the region, too. The Austin Police Department has said its aware of rumors and is increasing staffing just in case. (The photo above is from a protest in Austin on July 26.)

The Antifa rumors are circulating after Garrett Foster was shot and killed at an Austin protest last Saturday night, July 25.To see videos of what is happening tonight, please see Heavys story here.

Heres what you need to know.

Rumors about armed Antifa scaling buildings are circulating on social media sites, claiming that protesters are going to try to start a new CHOP (autonomous zone) in Austin. The Austin Police Department has only said that its aware of the rumors and will be working this weekend to keep everything peaceful.

On Friday night, July 31, Austin local Tyson Eberly shared a post on Faceook about unconfirmed reports that Antifa was busing in rioters. This is one example of the messages that are circulating. He wrote: Getting unconfirmed reports of Antifa rioters bussed into Austin today. Might consider boarding up your business. As our city burns, mayor Adler wont do a damn thing to stop it.

This is similar to a lot of the rumors circulating, which are claiming that people are being bused into the city. However, there has been no official confirmation to the busing rumors.

One person responded to Eberlys post, writing: Please stop spreading lies. This is the kind of inflammatory bs that gets us killed. I was there when Garrett Foster was murdered. This is not a game or a joke. We have every right to march in these streets and some protesters exercise their 2nd amendment right while doing so. Please take this post down.

On Reddit, u/jesshlolz posted on Friday night that they received an email from their buildings management company, The Tyndall, warning that armed protesters might be planning to scale buildings in downtown Austin over the weekend.

Here is a screenshot of the email they shared:

The letter claims that The Tyndall Residents Facebook page was sharing information about the protests, and that the Austin Police Department provided timely intelligence today about demonstrations reportedly planned for this weekend in downtown Austin.

The letter goes on to say: It was reported that demonstrating groups plan to scale five buildings that face downtown sometime on Saturday. The supposed goal of the protestors is to view the demonstrations from these rooftops. We were told to anticipate these individuals being armed. APDs intelligence is that The Tyndall is one of the buildings on this list. The accuracy of this information cannot be known at this point

A similar message with the logo GNDC at the top, reportedly from the La Vista de Guadalupe, is being shared on Facebook, with some escalating the rumor to include Antifa snipers.

Austin American Statesman reported that mid- and high-rise properties in downtown Austin were warning residents about tonight and telling them to call 911 if they see anything suspicious. The Statesman said that buildings included in the warning were the Tyndall at Robertson Hill, AMLI Eastside, Eleven, and La Vista de Guadalupe.

KVUE also reported that the Texas DPS had received reports of people planning to disrupt peaceful protests in Austin this weekend.

The Austin Police Department has not said anything publicly on social media about the rumors to confirm or deny them. Their last post on Saturday as of the time of publication was about the hot temperatures in the city. However, they have told local media that they are aware of the rumors. KXAN reported that the Austin Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety are increasing their staffing this weekend and are aware of the rumors.

The APD shared a statement with KXAN, noting that they were aware of the rumors and said:

We are bringing in the necessary staff, and have partnered with other local law enforcement agencies as we have done throughout the past few months, to allow for those peacefully and lawfully practicing their first amendment rights while also working to prevent any violence or destruction of property.

The DPS also shared the following statement with KXAN:

DPS supports the right of individuals to lawfully protest, and public safety is our top priority. Therefore, DPS will be increasing our presence this weekend, along with our local law enforcement partners, to ensure public safety needs are met and to combat any potential criminal activity.

One rumor that is confirmed accurate is that there will be a March to Amplify Black Voices and Defund the Police in Austin, Texas on Saturday night. This march starts at 7:30 p.m. and lasts until 10:30 p.m. You can see see the event page here. The description for the march reads:

Join us in a march to amplify Black Austin voices and demand the defunding of the Austin Police Department. The city will vote on its budget in August and council member Kathie Tovo is currently proposing no cuts to APDs budget. This is insubstantial in the face of Austin Justice Collations demand of a 100 million dollar cut Communities of Colors demand of a 200 million dollar cut let alone the damage that the APD has inflicted on this city.

We will meet on the University of Texas campus and march to Tovos neighborhood with drums, chalk and speakers to let the city know our demands must be met. Water and masks will be provided, masks are mandatory and we will keep safe social distancing practices in place. Join us in amplifying the voices of black and brown Austinites and make sure our city leaders are held accountable to the people they serve, not the police.

The march begins at the UT Austin Tower and then will proceed to Council Member Kathie Tovos neighborhood. The march requires masks and social distancing of the participants. A pinned post on the page notes concern about violence from Trump supporters.

Another post on the page notes that the event is not 2A friendly because of concern that people will be hurt if they open carry. They note that another protest happening in downtown Austin tonight by the Mike Ramos Brigade is2A friendly.

The event page also directly addressed the rumors of violence, writing: Unfortunately, it appears that right-wingers in Texas are convinced that our march is BLM busing in anarchists to take over Austin. It appears that some of them may come out to confront us, so please factor that in your decision if you want to come in terms of safety. In good news, according to them we are all getting paid by Soros so first round of drinks is on us when I get that Soros Stimulus.

The post was shared by the North North University Mutual Aid Society. The March to Amplify Black Voices has another post by the same group pinned on its discussion page.

At the same time, some armed conservative groups have also been reported in the Austin area today, according to social media posts. The Facebook group Come and Talk It shared a photo of an armed group beneath I-35 near the Austin Police Department headquarters.

On Reddit, some people also shared seeing people carrying what looked like rifles and bulletproof vests in the Austin region, but it wasnt clear what groups they were associated with.

Just saw three guys with ARs and bullet proof vests walking around Auditorium Shores from Austin

5-7 Guys in Camo with Rifles in Statesman Parking Lot from Austin

Later, another Redditor shared photos of the armed protestors at the Statesman parking lot, which you can see in the embedded post below.

Many armed men at statesman from Austin

Earlier today, a peaceful group of pro-Trump protesters formed a caravan on Austin highways to show their support for President Donald Trump, KXAN reported. The MAGA Drag the Interstate event started at 12 p.m. and included a caravan driving on I-35, 183, Mopac, and SH 71.

The Mike Ramos Brigade is also planning a protest on Saturday night, which the March to Amplify Black Voices and Defund the Police said was 2A friendly. You can see the event page here. The event is in downtown Austin at 4th and Congress, where Garrett Foster was shot and killed. The event runs from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. and its called Fight for Garrett and Brad! Protest Enemies of the People!

This events description reads:

Tribune of the People has exposed Garrett Fosters killer, Sergeant Daniel Scott Perry. This disgusting racist scum came back out to Garretts vigil, the very spot where he drove into protesters and killed Garrett, to threaten and intimidate protesters. After the story was exposed, Perrys lawyer admitted to his clients murder and claimed it was self-defense, also noting that Perry feels sympathy for our comrades family. The audacity is enraging!!!!!

Fresh blood was on APDs hands, and they still let this killer go untouched, just like how they protect Mike Ramos killers AND Brad Ayalas shooter, Nicholas Gebhart. In 2018, Nicholas was ALSO involved in the murder of 23-year-old Thomas Vincent Alvarez.

The racist institution of police both employs killers and protects them! Without the hard work of Tribune of the People and the instagram @justice4ayala, these enemies of the people would remain anonymous. We know APD would protect them as long as possible, and that is why we have no faith in a justice system that uses them as bodyguards.

The imperialist system mandates violence on Black, Chicano, immigrant and working class communities from every direction. We must fight for peoples justice, and work to tear down this violent system! Come out and protest these enemies of the people!

In a later post, the group said this was also a memorial.

If you want to stay updated on what happens tonight, Hiram Gilberto often goes to downtown Austin and provides live-streamed videos on the ground. His Facebook page is here.

Retribution Arrive on Smackdown, Vandalize Ring in Hoodies and Masks – Bleeding Cool News

WWE's new anarchist stable Retribution arrived on WWE Smackdown on Friday. After being seen torching a generator on Monday Night Raw earlier this week, Retribution hit the ring at the end of Smackdown on Friday, terrorizing the NXT trainees paid to sit in the crowd and committing acts of vandalism.

The group, which consisted of a half dozen or more men and women wearing black pants, black hoodies, and black masks, brought bats and steel pipes with them to the ring with a little more than five minutes left before Smackdown went off the air. Retribution attempted to attack the commentary team, but unfortunately, Michael Cole and Corey Graves got away. The group then attacked "fans" in the crowd with bats and pipes. Then they returned to the ring.

After shouting things like "this is our house now" and "who's in charge now," the group chased off some camera people and then broke out cans of red spray paint, which they used to vandalize the ringside area. One of them spraypainted the WWE logo with a big circle around it and a line through the logo on the plexiglass ring barrier. They also spraypainted the ring apron and the ring itself and tipped over the announce table. For the grand finale, one member of Retribution pulled out a chainsaw and cut down the ring ropes.

We first learned about the plans for Retribution to debut on Monday, with Ryan Satin, a wrestling journalist who has been employed by WWE in the past, first reporting on the "leaked" story. Satin repeatedly insisted that the faction was "not political," including in a follow-up article after the Raw segment later that night. That's clearly a message WWE wants to get out since the group bears a strong resemblance to conservative media bugaboo Antifa. Since everything the group is doing appears to be a wrestlingized version of what's been happening over the past few months in protests across the country, as filtered through the mind of WWE's 74-year-old CEO Vince McMahon, the company believes that by repeatedly stating that the faction is "not political" the company can plausibly deny making light of social causes while still building buzz for an edgy storyline. Whether it will work remains to be seen.

A prophecy says that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero will come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events.

Scourge of Rich Johnston, maker of puns, and seeker of the Snyder Cut, Jude Terror, sadly, is not the hero comics needs right now... but he's the one the industry deserves.

Doxxieland: Unmasking the Racist Resistance – Bayou Brief

At the first Save America rally, held on the Fourth of July outside of the Louisiana Governors Mansion in Baton Rouge, environmental investigative journalist Julie Dermansky captured this photo of one of only two people who wore face masks. The unidentified man told Dermansky that his mask was a way of protesting against Dixie Beer, which recently announced plans to drop the name Dixie from its brand. (Also note the novelty USS Robert E. Lee baseball cap, which are sold online by print-on-demand vendors. The USS Robert E. Lee was decommissioned nearly 40 years ago). Photo by Julie Dermansky.

Even though hes just a week shy of his 57th birthday, Jeff Crouerethe pugnacious New Orleans area conservative talk radio host, TV pundit, and columniststill looks like someone who occasionally gets the question Can I see some ID? by no-nonsense bartenders and by-the-book convenience store cashiers.

His style is probably best described as Young Republican. He seems most comfortable in a polo and khakis or a suit, which he wears whenever hes on the air, even when its just a taping of He Said, She Said, the weekly radio show he co-hosts with his new girlfriend, Miriam Mimi Owens, the race-baiting provocateur who is perhaps best known locally for creating Robert E. Lee-themed Mardi Gras throws, which earned her a lifetime ban from the Krewe of Freret.

Recently, Crouere and Owens announced that they will be hosting their second Save America rally in Jefferson Parish on August 14. Around 200 people attended their first rally, which took place outside of the Governors Mansion in Baton Rouge on the Fourth of July, right as Louisiana began to confront a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases.

The event included Tony Spell, the breakaway Pentecostal preacher whose defiance of the stay-at-home order earlier in the year encouraged over 1,000 members of his church to undermine the public health, providing Spell with his 15 minutes of fame and a warrant for his arrest.

Are you a masker or a free breather? he roared at the rally, though he already knew the answer.

After I asked Crouere and Owens if theyd be willing to respond to a few questions, they were happy to help. Three weeks ago, we spoke for nearly an hour through FaceTime. At some point, I asked whether to expect the opposition to face masks to be a theme in upcoming rallies.

Our event was not about masks, Crouere told me. That was not really the focus of our rallies, and that really wont be the focus of our upcoming rallies.

But well follow the law, Owens interjected. I dont like it. I cant breathe. Im hot as heck in it. But were lawful people, so if we have to wear it, well wear it.

While their first event may not have been intended to focus on opposition to mask mandates, that message clearly wasnt received by those in attendance.

Out of the less than 200 rally-goers, I saw only two people with face masks, reported environmental investigative journalist and photographer Julie Dermansky on Desmog. One was worn by a man that had the words Dixie Beer painted on it, which was expressing his disdain over the decision by the owner of the New Orleans beer company to change the beers name in response to anti-racism demonstrations. The other mask I noticed at the rally was worn on a womans arm.

According to Crouere, he and Owens decided to organize Save America rallies for four different reasons. Its about a response to attacks on police, he explained. Its a response to the fact that our historic monuments are being taken down. Its a response to a shutdown of the economy, and its a response to what a lot of people see as a leftward movement in the political world.

Two weeks after their Fourth of July rally, Owens encouraged her friends and followers on Facebook to attend the Take Our Country Back Rally (Say No to the Mask) near the Lakeside Mall in Metairie, noting the event is not organized by Jeff or I (sic). It is organized by Clay Taylor. He has filed suit about the mask mandate. All are welcome.

Crouere told me that he was in attendance but reemphasized that neither he nor Owens had been involved in its planning.

When I decided to write about the purpose and the ultimate aims of their rallies, I had assumed the story would be about the political opposition to restrictions aimed at curtailing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but while that certainly is a part of the story, as I quickly came to understand, it should not be confused with what appears to be driving their activism: Anger over the effort to remove monuments that celebrate Confederate leaders and the Lost Cause of white supremacy.

Nearly a year after Donald Trump took office, Jeff Crouere continued to question whether former President Obama was born in the United States, peddling an article by the bigoted conspiracist Jerome Corsi on Alex Jones fringe propaganda website InfoWars. Corsi claimed the CIA hacked into Hawaiis database to manufacture Barack Obamas long-form birth certificate.

Ive said from the beginning that the birth certificate (Obama) released was a fraud, said Crouere, who also told listeners that he thought the whole thing about (Obama) being Christian was a masquerade as well.

Yet, despite promoting a debunked conspiracy theory even after President Trump himself gave up on the cause, Jeff Crouere has usually been able to present himself as someone who straddles between the far-right fringe and the more respectable Republican establishment. In addition to the weekly program with Owens, Crouere also hosts a daily morning show, Ringside Politics, as well as a bimonthly show in front of a live audience called Politics with a Punch, which describes itself as a local version of comedian Bill Mahers former show Politically Incorrect.

He is helped, in part, by the fact that he broadcasts on one of the smallest stations in the New Orleans area, WGSO, which means youre unlikely to hear his most incendiary commentary unless youre a loyal listener who lives nearby or if you decide to download an app to listen online (albeit small, Crouere actually does command a national audience online).

Crouere also benefitted from his brief marriage to Simone Bruni, a well-respected entrepreneur who became a local celebrity and a self-made multimillionaire after launching the demolition company Demo Diva in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. A year before they married, Bruni threw him a lavish party for his 50th birthday, which managed to earn coverage in The Times-Picayune.

According to a friend of Bruni, their divorce was nasty, and among those in the country club crowd of suburban Jefferson Parish, rumors of a high-priced alimony agreement for Crouere were widespread.

Regardless, it seems more than a little ironic that a man who once raged with indignation against former Mayor Mitch Landrieu for ordering the removal of Lost Cause monuments in New Orleans had been married to a woman who made a fortune tearing things down. Perhaps the two were never a good match.

However, the same cannot be said about his co-host and girlfriend Mimi Owens, the Cleopatra to his Marc Antony, the Bonnie to his Clyde.

The Save America Rallies began as a Facebook group, which the couple created to recruit and organize for a grand event. The group purported to be about saving our heritage, culture, security, and prosperity.

In little over a week, it mustered well over 3,000 members, a menagerie of militant conservatives, fringe conspiracists, and more than a few white supremacists, which proved to generate the wrong kind of attention and complicated their plans.

Because of impending threats, which happens, thats part of the silencing, Owens told WWLTV. Were not going to announce a location or time until next week.

But the aura of mystery and the vague idea of fighting back only encouraged their racist flock to air their grievances. Next theyll want to get rid of white people because it upsets them from slavery days, when not one these assholes was ever a slave, wrote a member named Deborah. Theyre too damn lazy. Thats why theyre on welfare.

Comments like Deborahs not only avoided scrutiny from Owens, the groups moderator, they were usually left unchallenged by everyone else as well.

Indeed, nearly every post in the group was one of outrage: videos of riots, looting, and violence, memes mocking George Floyds murder, and Deep State conspiracy theories. On the rare occasion in which the group was infiltrated by someone expressing any opinion that resembled disagreement, then, like a swarm of racist bees, the drones honed in, and the double-agents were quickly outed.

Often, contrarians were shouted down with accusations of antifa, the anti-racist, anti-fascist, far-left political movement that has emerged as the principal boogeyman of President Trump and his supporters on the fringe right.

A dutiful and vigilant overseer, Owens was attentive to questions from her legion and responded with swift action whenever so-callled antifa dissidents made an appearance. On a post celebrating Trumps executive order protecting monuments, a member named Devin simply replied, Unconstitutional.

Antifa alert, a woman named Susan warned the group. Devin is antifa, she asserted, attaching a screenshot of Devins comment as evidence.

Owens responded to Susans alarm in less than twenty minutes and gave Devin the boot. Hes been removed.

Owens is no stranger to the racist sewers of social media. In addition to her role with the Save America Rallies group, she is also an admin of Forever Lee Circle, a Facebook page with more than 14,000 followers, ostensibly created to focus on fighting the removal of Confederate general Robert E. Lees statue in the city.

Many slave owners, Jefferson and Lee for example, opted to keep their slaves to prevent them from being mistreated by others who might try an [sic] re-enslave them, she once wrote in a post that is as appalling as it is factually incorrect. The group itself has proposed that the real perpetrators of American slavery were the Jews, the Muslims, and Africans themselves.

Before she launched a career in talk radio, Mimi Owens wrote a pair of self-published childrens books, including one titled Whos That, Daddy? meant to educate children about various monuments in New Orleans, including those of Confederate soldiers and perpetrators of genocide. (Her other book includes a similar cast of characters but is set in Richmond, Virginia).

In a stilted, simple rhyme scheme, the book, which is illustrated by Sean Gautreaux, tells the story of a white father driving his son around the city to explain the significance of the monuments they see.

Although it is not included in the book, there is one illustration that Owens appears to be particularly fond of and arguably best represents her approach in curating history. She uses it as the banner image for her Forever Lee Circle Facebook page. Its of a father and a son stumbling into a Mardi Gras parade, where they find three heroes of the ConfederacyJefferson Davis, P.G.T. Beauregard, and Robert E. Leetossing Owens Forever Lee Circle throws while standing atop a float thats being hauled by a Black man in a tractor.

To be sure, both she and Crouere vehemently reject the notion that either of them are racist, claiming that they are animated instead by a patriotic love for their country and the Constitution and concerns about erasing history, which is ironic considering the ways in which both of them routinely distort, exaggerate, and flat-out lie about the history behind these monuments and the reasons people want them taken down.

I am actually on the Southern Poverty Laws hate-watch, Owens boasted at the first Save America rally, as if the designation is a badge of honor. (As it turns out, this too was an exaggeration. Owens was referring to this article about her Lee Circle Mardi Gras throws, which referred to her by one of her pseudonyms, Mikas Earl.)

But thats not to say that the couple havent faced backlash for their views and their cause clbre. Since they announced their plans for their first Save America rally, they claim they were both been inundated with phone calls, social media posts, emails, and letters from people accusing them of racism.

Some of those people, according to Owens, called themselves members of antifa, referring to the anti-fascist, anti-racist, far-left political movement, and following their first rally, she would allege that among the crowd there were five antifa counter-protestors, dressed in black uniforms.

When Owens posted a photograph on the rallys private Facebook group page of the five suspects, all of whom appeared to be either in their late teens or early twenties, languishing a few hundred feet from the event, one of them wrote Owens back. They were not, as it turns out, antifa. The comment was quickly scrubbed from the page, presumably by an administrator.

And then the doxxing began, bemoaned Owens.

After receiving an innocuous Black Lives Matter flyer and phone calls to both Owens and her ex-husbands phones from people allegedly claiming to be antifa, the couple say they felt concerned enough to contact local law enforcement as well as the FBI.

They were boasting about doing it so we had to take action, Crouere said. I mean all of this is disturbing beyond belief.

That phone call was the scariest one of all, Owens said. This is antifa looking for Mimi Owens. To me, thats a threat. So frightened, in fact, that she went on to taunt the caller online.

****

To people like Jeff Crouere and Mimi Owens, taking down monuments to racist or genocidal men is merely a political stunt, a way for white politicians like Mitch Landrieu to erase history while ingratiating themselves among the Black community.

Its a feel-good action that does nothing, said Crouere. Now we see since the George Floyd incident, I think literally 100 monuments have been taken down across the country. I just think thats very sad.

Owens, who calls herself a historic preservationist, expressed her disdain as well. They have no problem putting Black Lives Matter on the street, she said. But you cant put something for your culture. Arent we a country of immigrants? But the only immigrants that matter are the ones that were forced here.

The couple believe that prominent public monuments to figures such as John McDonogh, Andrew Jackson, and Robert E. Lee should remain standing, regardless of the messages those monuments communicate to Black and indigenous Americans, as they each, in their view, contain some sort of ambiguous lesson in history.

You know, we all have our stories. Im part Irish, what about all the Irish that were considered slaves? Crouere mused when we spoke. Weve got to remember that a lot of people have ancestors who went through a lot of pain and were enslaved. I think the Irish slavery lasted 200 years.

The trope about Irish slavery is a widely-discredited, specious argument that traces its origin in the recent discourse of white supremacy.

But this is how both of them frame the discussion. In their version of the story, they are the real victims here, and their online army of supporters have been unfairly maligned simply because they believe in defending American history.

****

Societal pressures have, for the most part, succeeded in driving the bulk of the loud-and-proud, heritage-not-hate, traitorous flag-waving racist neo-revolutionaries into the underbellies of neighborhood bars, Thanksgiving dinners, and online communities. The more careful and prudent among them stick to places of true anonymity, such as the forums of 9gag or 4chan. But the loss of strongholds like r/The_Donald show that they continue to lose a war of attrition.

Those who have remained onlinethese tech-savvy, young, involuntarily celibate partisanswill likely continue to disrupt supply lines of discussion with their memes and single-sentence debates. Youll find them mocking trans rights or liberal absurdities, or claiming to OWN libtard snowflakes with FACTS and LOGIC.Having been banished to the backseat, they laugh at the speed bumps on the road to progress. But these underground resistance fighters know the internet. They know how to navigate the back channels and remain hidden, striking and retreating like cyber guerrillas.

Such is not the case for the vanguard that is, the boomer and the internet illiterate divisions of the resistance. Theyre out waging war on open and mostly public groups on Facebook. They use their real names. They have profile pictures, some of themselves, some of the president using the flag as a tissue, some as just the flag itself. Though the image can vary from the flag of the United States, a bastardized thin-blue-line version, or the flag of the Confederacy, depending on the season.

They also often list their personal information, including where they work. They dont know any better. Having never encountered hacker culture outside of red pill metaphors from The Matrix, theyre quickly becoming acquainted with a common term and tactic on the online battlefield: Doxxing.

But theyre only getting a taste of the true nature of the practice. Doxxing has been used to stalk and target abortion providers, expose journalists confidential sources, and to identify and punish government dissidents. On the extreme end of the scale, theres swatting, which involves making a false police report of a hostage situation that leads to a raid on an unsuspecting, innocent persons home. In this country, if the police burst through your door and you try to defend yourself from these unannounced intruders, theres a good chance youll be killed. The tragic murder of Breonna Taylor shows that these intruders may not even be held accountable for it. As of this writing, Breonna Taylors murderers have still not been arrested.

These virtual bigots are simply having the things they say and post in a public place or send in direct messages documented. Alerting a business to the vile, unacceptable behavior of one of their employees isnt harassment or targeting. In fact, its beneficial to that business, and to the larger community. Broadcasting the racist beliefs of a business owner or a public figure isnt defamation; its a public service. This is especially true when the people spouting racist opinions are teachers, public officials, pastors, or police officers.

Among their legion of Facebook fans, one in particular stands out: Amanda Jennings (aka Amanda Smith, aka Amanda Hargis, aka Amanda Downhour). Jennings isnt just one of the most prolific commenters in the Save America Rallies group, she is also a regular presence on Mimi Owens personal page.

When I reached out for comment, Jennings, a native of Bastrop, a small town in north Louisiana, told me she was willing to talk if you are willing to risk your life. She then added, I am targeted by these foreign militants that want to destroy our country. A week ago, she claimed that the World Health Organization paid Hollywood actors to claim that they had Covin-19 (sic).

Elaborate, bizarre conspiracies are a part of her brand. So too is virulent white supremacy.

After Heather Heyer was murdered by a white supremacist during the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, Jennings defended the white supremacist, arguing that he was merely fleeing a violent mob. Two weeks later, she posted a photograph of her and Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA03), whose own associations with fringe anti-government militia groups have been well-documented.

Jennings does not attempt to hide her incendiary beliefs, nor does she shy away from the spotlight.

Last year, she campaigned as a Republican for Louisiana Secretary of State, finishing last and in a distant fourth against incumbent and fellow Republican Kyle Ardoin, but still managing to garner nearly 80,000 votes.

She reported being the only donor to the campaign, spending slightly more than $2,000, which paid for the qualifying fee and campaign swag, which apparently included stickers that misspelled the word candidate and her own last name.

Jennings actively protested the removal of Confederate and white supremacist monuments in New Orleans and, later, in Shreveport as well. In a live-streaming video broadcasted from a counter-protest outside of the Confederate monument in front of the Caddo Parish courthouse, which she shared on the Save America Rallies page, she featured a woman holding a spiked bat. When Jennings asked the woman about the weapon, the woman called it a N***** Beater.

Oh, wow, responded Jennings, before saying to a nearby counter-protester, I hope she dont need to use it.

Jennings is a great example of the casual form of doxxing facing the vanguard. The live-stream she shared on Crouere and Owens group was also posted on her own personal page, which was public and open for all to see.

After a few shares, hundreds flocked to her page to express their outrage on her video. Jennings responded by sending direct messages to some of the Black commenters, saying to one, You fucking n****** getting real bold!!!!! Little black bitch I will hang you. (She later claimed, dubiously, that the comment was photoshopped).

Jeff Crouere and Mimi Owens did not denounce or remove the video or any other of her violent or racist posts until I asked them about it, nearly a month after Jennings posted her video.

Thats not acceptable. Its not acceptable to have any video that has racial slurs in it, said Crouere, who, unlike Owens, also noted that he was unfamiliar with Jennings. Thats against everything that we stand for. That will be removed once we find it.

Some things get past us, Owens asserted. At some of these protests on the other side, theyre saying nasty words too, so what do we do? Do we not show any protests?

The video was removed from the groups page and Amanda Jennings was banned from the Save America Rallies group within minutes of our interview ending.

In response to the public attention, or casual doxxing, that members in the group were receiving, Owens mustered her troops and made an announcement. Heres what is happening all over social media, she wrote. Be smart and pause before you post. In the post, she included screenshots of half a dozen groups called things like Expose Racists+ 2020, Expose Racism 2020, and YOU ABOUT TO LOSE YO JOB!!!! (Racists exposed 2020).

Posts and screenshots from the Save America Rally group had been shared and tagged in groups like these, which caused members of the vanguard to have their employers contacted and their racist memes and opinions, which they thought were shared in a safe space, posted on their profiles for their friends to see.

Ever the gallant leader, Owens chose to warn her soldiers of watchful eyes, rather than admonish them, ban them from the group, or remove their posts for blatantly racist language and imagery. Rather than simply not being racist, they chose to become more cautious of what they posted.

Ive had a show for 21 years, and Ive never had anything like this ever before, Crouere said, while sitting snug on a loveseat next to Owens. Its reaching a level of vitriol that is really unprecedented.

FBI has opened 300 ‘domestic terror’ investigations as a result of riots, attorney tells Capitol hearing on… – Fox News

The FBIhas opened more than 300 domestic terrorism investigations since George Floyd's deathin Minneapolis kicked off nationwide unrest and riots,a federal attorney revealed Tuesday in a hearing on Capitol Hill on Antifa and violent protests.

Erin Nealy Cox, a U.S. attorney tapped by Attorney General William Barr to lead a task force onviolent anti-government extremists, said the feds have opened hundreds of federal criminal investigations surrounding the violence and rioting since May 28.

"Theyhave since May 28 [opened] over 300 domestic terrorist investigations," Cox told a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing on preventing violent protests. "That does not include any potential civil rights investigations or violent crime associated with the riots."

CRUZ, AHEAD OF ANTIFA HEARING, DESCRIBES RIOTS IN US CITIES AS ORGANIZED TERROR ATTACKS

In addition, Acting DeputyHomeland SecuritySecretaryKen Cuccinelli told lawmakers that an estimated 140 federal law enforcementofficers guarding a Portland federal courthouse sustained 277 injuries due to the violent and sustained nightly attacks at the building.

At one point in the Senate hearing, he picked up a frozen water bottle andbangedit on the desk, saying they have been thrown at officers as well as pipes and Molotov cocktails.

The hearing Tuesday titled "The Right of the People Peaceably to Assemble: Protecting Speech by Stopping Anarchist Violence revealed deep divisions in how Republicans and Democrats view the sustained protests that have gripped the nationsince Floyd's death while in police custody.

The subcommittee chairman,Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, focused on rioters and anti-government activists that have "hijacked" peaceful protests and unleashed harm and violence in certain cities, like Portland. He kicked off the hearing by playing a video contrasting the protests from Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi and the March for Life with therecent riots, the chaos it has caused, and the Democratic response to it.

SEN CRUZ: DEMOCRATIC POLITICIANS SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR 'LETTING THEIR CITIES BURN'

"Their actions are profoundly racist," Cruz said. "The rioters.... destroy minority communities, minority businesses and minority lives across this country. This shouldn't be complicated:peaceful protests must be protected. Riots must be stopped."

Meanwhile, Democrats focused their questioning on the federal government's sometimes aggressive tactics in places like Portland and Washington,D.C., indispersing crowdsthat they view as largely peaceful.

Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii,saysTuesday'shearing should instead be called: "The right of the people peaceably to assemble without being beaten up by unidentifiable federal agents."

"That would address an actual problem lawful protesters are facing and the rest of us are seeing in this country," Hirono said.

Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., described a scene in Portland whereprotesters were "holding flowers, dancing, chanting" and calling for equal justice for all whenthe federal government arrived in July. He says that thenat around 11 p.m., federal law enforcement would emerge and attack peaceful protesters with "military-grade tear gas" and other tools.

Cuccinelli said there's a difference between protesters and the rioterscommitting acts of violence.

PORTLAND RECORDS DEADLIEST MONTH IN 30 YEARS: REPORT

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., defended the work of federal officers in Portland.

"If we had done nothing, what would have happened to the courthouse, Mr. Cuccinelli, in Portland?" Graham asked.

Cuccinelli responded:"That courthouse wouldn't be there."

"So I challenge anyone on the other side to say differently," Graham said. "If we hadn't intervened they'd have burned the god--n thing down."

They Held a Hearing So Ted Cruz Could Say ‘Antifa’ a Bunch on C-SPAN – Esquire

Our old pal, Senator Tailgunner Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas and, according to the current president* of the United States, son of an accessory to the murder of John F. Kennedy, threw a performance piece in the Senate on Tuesday that seemed designed only to give him a chance to say Antifa on C-SPAN a lot. The hearing was a farce. Senator Mazie Hirono of Hawaii kept trying to get the conversation around to white-supremacist violence in this country, which actually has killed actual people. But the Tailgunner kept wrenching things back around to the monsters from his private id, with hilarious results.

Then came the otherwise unemployable Ken Cuccinelli, Acting Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security:

Officer Underwood was killed by a right-wing Boogaloo maniac and Air Force veteran named Patrick Carillo. Senator Dick Durbin repeatedly tried to get things back to discussing the actual people committing actual political murder, but Cruz was having none of it, so we were treated to the stylings of Andy Ngo, pretending to be a journalist, and Jonathan Turley, pretending to be reasonable while drawing a connection between Antifa and A. Mitchell Palmer, before moving on to the perils of cancel culture, and a closing rendition of the old boogedy-boogedy from Cruz, who got the video he needs. This is to remind you that Congress is on the job.

In keeping with the new progressive strategy for arguments with conservatives, Stanley Harrold's Unsuited to be Published diatribe was the supreme example of the new "Cancel Culture" of silencing conservatives.

Instead of honoring the value of substantive debate about critical issues, he chose to lump my article about the recent attacks on Christianity with two other conservative authors writing about different subjects. Harrold's attack used the implied charge of racism against all three writers (Ironically, one writer was of Chinese descent writing about the connection of current events with his knowledge of China).

Harrold went so far as to actually allege the newspaper was irresponsible for publication of the conservative side. According to Harrold, the articles raise questions about fairness and human rights. Three far-right columns go beyond anything close to reasonable journalism. I would normally let this kind of unfounded hyperbole and defamation go unanswered, but feel compelled to reply.

First, as the readers know I have been a conservative voice in the newspapers opinion section among a substantial majority of liberal columnists. Almost two decades ago, when I started offering opinion pieces for The Times and Democrat, voices from the far left, like Eugene Robinson, predominated the opinion page. This imbalance appeared biased to the left, but I never questioned The Times and Democrat publishing liberal voices.

Recent columns on The Times and Democrat editorial page raise questions about fairness and human rights. Three far-right columns go beyond anything close to reasonable journalism.

My challenge was to provide the conservative voice, debate the ideas and provide evidence to back up my assertions. I never lumped together multiple liberal writers. Lumping writers together is absolutely disingenuous, in that all can be discredited by the assertions of one and unfair unless they are writing in coordination. In my writings, I have attempted to find credible evidence in both quotations and citations. Though I find Ann Coulters article an insightful and important counter to the far left, she makes assertions I do not.

Prior to my article about the attacks on Christianity by those involved in the current rioting, I wrote about Karl Marx and quote him extensively. In that earlier article, I made the same allegation as I did with the recent article about rising attacks on Christianity: That Marxism was connected to many of the actions we were seeing with the rioters, and that the relationship between the two should not be ignored. In both articles, I give preeminence to the actions and ideology of antifa, though in the second article I also mention the connection of Marxism to the Black Lives Matter organization. As I made clear, I did not believe many of those protesting after the Floyd killing understood the Marxist connection.

Harrold either failed to read my first article about Marxism or failed to do any of his own research about Marx. Marx was vehemently and openly anti-Christian and claimed his primary goal in life was to dethrone God, and destroy capitalism." Marx wrote of his hatred of the nuclear family and alleged that in primitive society, families were communal. This obviously contradicted the biblical accounts of family. Marx also wrote that the present must control the past and exhorted his followers to destroy reminders of the past.

Americans have watched the escalating mayhem throughout America since the riots in Minnesota in early June. The initial targets of violence (rioting interspersed with protesting) were police officers, along with police cruisers and stations. Then came the seemingly irrational destruction of statues and memorials. This includes memorials to abolitionists and generals like U.S. Grant.

In deciding to throw down the trump card of racism," Harrold fails to even mention the prominence of the role I allege of antifa in furthering Marxist ideals. Additionally, Harrold turns my mention of the BLM organization into an attack against all African Americans, going so far as to assert Black people are among the most Christian Americans."

Whether or not one racial group is considered the most Christian is not the point, and frankly the BLM protests are noted for involving overwhelmingly white progressives. The BLM organization was founded by (and still led by) those who admitted to being trained Marxists." Anyone can read the BLM website, in which BLM claims it must disrupt the nuclear family," among other values unrelated to black lives mattering.

Interestingly, the Black nuclear family is suffering the greatest crisis in history, with over 75% of Black babies born and raised outside wedlock (in 1965, under 25% were born/raised outside wedlock). If Black lives mattered, surely having a father and mother raising children would be a prime goal. BLM instead promotes children being raised the communal way Marx recommended. Additionally, the BLM goals include the end of police, prisons, borders, ICE, etc. and redistributing wealth.

After the initial shock and emotion over the George Floyd killing, Americans are waking up to an insidious movement using the emotion for ulterior purposes. Groups with Marxist ideology have brazenly infiltrated the protests and used the protests to further their aims. Former antifa member Gabriel Nadales described antifa becoming a mob like collective aiming to destroy political opposition and silence dissenters.

Shockingly, Harrold claims the Chinese Communist Party to be some kind of benign democracy with solely a window-dressing of Marxism/communism. The reality most have come to accept is exactly opposite. CPP handling of COVID-19, including the coverups and death/disappearing of whistleblowers and decision to curtail travel from Wuhan within China while allowing international flights from Wuhan, has torn the veil on any benign perceptions. It is a ruthless and deceptive autocracy. It is every bit as bad as the USSR, and not much better than the CCP under Maos Cultural Revolution killing tens of millions.

The readers are free to disregard the evidence I have presented in the Marxist connections to the rioting by antifa and BLM. They are free to disregard the claims of BLM founders to being trained Marxists, or that BLM publishes its goal to disrupt the biblical nuclear family. They are free to disregard members of antifa and BLM (primarily white) destroying Christian monuments and symbols and burning churches. They are free to disregard the recent Bible-burning episode in Portland. They are free to believe the Chinese Communist Party is just like a free parliamentary system of government.

Mr. Harrold is free to disagree and present his evidence. What he should not do is attempt to silence voices with which he disagrees by attempts to shame newspapers for publishing both sides. Too many have suffered and died to curtail that freedom.

Do not indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. George Washington
