Doctor promotes regenerative medicine

Medical practitioners say that todays generation is more fortunate because advances in medicine and cosmetic dermatology have been so rapid that practically any threat to staying young can be addressed.

Lasers and stem-cell therapy are just two of the innovations we have seen in recent decades that are helping people stay young and beautiful.

Among the growing number of Filipino doctors who are keeping abreast of these trends is Dr. Francis Decangchon. A graduate of the University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine and a practitioner of cosmetic dermatology for years, Dr. Decangchon has branched out into regenerative or anti-aging medicine.

Radical measures

He explains that, during the 1950s and 60s, those who wanted to stay young had to resort to radical measures that involved invasive, meaning surgical, procedures. Of late, however, the emphasis has shifted to minimally invasive, less invasive or, in some cases, non-invasive ways of defying age.

When women, for instance, reach their 30s and 40s, they start losing their natural supply of collagen and elastin. The skin begins to sag and lose its elasticity.

Fortunately, theres a solution.

Nowadays there are patients who, at 30 years old, can already start having lifting, so by the time they are in their 50s and 60s, banat pa yan, says Dr. Decangchon. Lasers are also used to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.

Adaptrin, the All Natural Herbal Supplement Released Information Today Providing a Scientifically Proven Anti-Aging …

Staten Island, New York (PRWEB) August 13, 2013

Adaptrin, the all natural herbal supplement released information today providing a unique and scientifically proven anti-aging approach to optimal body functionality, in-turn defying stress. The supplement developed on the foundations of Tibetan medicine, has shown unique, broad range anti-oxidant properties that help address inflammation and stress the body faces with aging and todays modern life-style. Importantly the supplements bio-protectant properties help provide cells with the tools to cope with popular-culture supplements and over-supplementation. In simple terms it restores and heals cellular function.

With recent news about a connection between increased risk of prostate cancer in men and the over-use of fish oil supplements, which may work as pro-oxidants, Adaptrins bio-protectant action neutralizes the stress on an organism due to excess supplement usage. In a way, Adaptrin works as a smart compound protecting our body from harm due to an excessive nutrient supply.

"Evolving awareness of nutrition in maintaining health and longevity has led us to the use of dietary supplements, said Dr. Vladimir Badmaev, whose family developed the formulation for Adaptrin. However, continuous intake for several months or years of the compilation of high doses of vitamins, synthetic and natural antioxidants, essential trace elements, energizers, essential fatty acids and high potency protein formulas will deplete the bodys ability to accommodate and utilize the supplemented nutrients. Even the best meant and researched nutrition may not help our body to stay healthy. In fact, nutrient over-supplementation may accelerate aging and the disease process by depleting the body of its own natural defense mechanisms and the ability to heal naturally.

As a result, we need a complementary strategy which takes into account the need to enhance bodys ability to accommodate those supplements, Dr. Badmaev said. Adaptrin, a multi-component all natural herbal and mineral formula derived from an indigenous tradition of Tibetan medicine, offers such a strategy by improving overall wellness and assists the bodys cells by providing tools to cope with excess of nutrients due to over-supplementation and facilitates cells own healing.

The Bioprotectant action of Adaptrin is derived from Indo-Tibetan concept of Rasayanas or vitalizers. The combination of herbs and minerals that promote energy circulation improves the blood vessel function, elasticity and ultimately blood delivery to the tissues. In a study of cognitive and mood functions in patients with a median age of 59, nearly all who used Adaptrin during a six-month period said they had improvements in memory, mental clarity and orientation, energy and alertness, sleep, mental attitude and well-being. Adaptrins influence adjusts and normalizes body function in response to daily challenges and prevents age-related decline by promoting healing process (Badmaev, V. Tibetan Medicine: An Effective Botanical Supplement for Peripheral Vascular Circulation J Cardiovasc Dis Diagn 2013, 1:3 --- https://www.adaptrin.com/sites/default/files/documents/Adaptrin%20JCDD-1-111%20%283%29%20FINAL.pdf).

Adaptrin has proven safety and efficacy in clinical studies and has a long history of use in various ethnic, cultural and age groups.

Adaptrin is one of the most researched and clinically tested traditional multi-component formulas known (Tibetan Medicine. Badmaev, V. 1999 (May). In a book titled: Essentials of Complementary and Alternative Medicine by Wayne B. Jonas and Jeffrey S. Levin; published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. ISBN: 0-683-30674-X: 604. Amazon.com). Studies validate that Adaptrin plays an adaptogenic/bioprotectant role by safeguarding the integrity of live cells against stress, and helping fulfill cell's physiological potential.

ABOUT ADAPTRIN Adaptrin is a unique proprietary botanical product formulated on the principles of Tibetan medicine and designed to regulate, normalize, and support the healthy cardiovascular and immune systems in men and women, providing a platform for healthy living and optimal aging.*

Take precautions to avoid water-borne illnesses

HOUSTON - By following a few basic precautions, you can prevent water-borne illnesses, said Dr. Gordon Schutze, professor of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine.

The most common water-borne illness is gastroenteritis, which can cause diarrhea. Skin infections and respiratory illnesses can also occur.

Follow these pool hygiene tips:

-Shower, using soap and water, before swimming. Wash the perianal area thoroughly.

-Check and change diapers frequently.

-Wash hands with soap and water after toilet use and diaper-changing activities.

-Infants and children who are not toilet trained should use proper fitting swim diapers.

-Wash hands with soap and water before and after consumption of food and drink.

Children in diapers should not be allowed to sit down on splash pads. These have a water reservoir underneath that recycles water, so if a child has diarrhea, it can come back through the water spray to potentially contaminate others.

Looking younger for less: It's in the ingredients

ORLANDO, Fla. -

Most low-priced sunscreens contain the same active ingredients as expensive anti-wrinkle creams, a Local 6 survey found.

The survey compared the active ingredients in every SPF 15, 30, and 45 brand and generic sunscreen on sale at Wal-Mart with the active ingredients in so-called anti-aging moisture creams, like products made by Lancome and Elizabeth Arden.

A mix of five active ingredients, Octisalate , Oxybenzone, Octocrylene, Avobenzone, and Homosalate, were found in similar volumes in both the cheaper sunscreens and more expensive anti-aging products.

The Local 6 survey was prompted by a report in The Annals of Internal Medicine which published a study showing that people who use sunscreen daily slow the aging of their skin. The study, conducted by Australian researchers, is the first of its kind, and the first to show that sunscreen, alone, can protect against skin aging. Researchers worked with 900 white people ages 25 to 55. Some were instructed to wear a broad spectrum sunscreen (SPF 15) daily for four years, while others were told to use it at their discretion.

At the end of the study, the subjects skin were put through intense examination and compared. Researchers found that those in the daily use group were less likely to have skin aging after 4.5 years than those in the discretionary-use group. The study concluded that regular sunscreen use does slow skin aging in healthy middle-aged men and women.

Then why pay more for anti-wrinkle creams if most of them contain the same active ingredient sunscreens as cheaper sun block products?

There is probably not a huge difference, says Florida Hospital dermatologist Dr. Tace Rico. She says consumers do not have to spend over a hundred dollars on a designer brand of anti-wrinkle cream to get the same anti-aging effects as sunscreen.

Even Octinoxate, the ingredient found in the $129 bottle of Elizabeth Arden Prevage, is just another sunscreen, Rico says.

But the doctor points out that some of the inactive ingredients in a product like Prevage can have temporary beneficial effects.

Eastern medicine seeks to balance

By U-T San Diego Contributor 6 p.m.Aug. 6, 2013

Traditional Eastern medicine has been practiced the world over for thousands of years. These natural healing procedures have become increasingly popular for those seeking relief from physical and emotional ailments.

The main types of traditional Eastern medicine include acupuncture, moxibustion or heat therapy, herbal medicine, Chinese therapeutic massage, Tai Chi and lifestyle counseling.

Greg Lane, director of Clinical Services at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, said these complementary and alternative procedures are sometimes the first choice for patients searching for help on a wide variety of health issues.

The origins of traditional Eastern medicine date back to archaeological discoveries of stone needles thousands of years ago in the Neolithic era, Lane said. Since then, scholars and physicians have spent considerable time understanding and educating themselves and others on the foundations for the practices.

Advocates said the benefits of traditional Eastern medicine are plentiful, including pain relief. And many people report better sleep, less stress and a general feeling of peacefulness after experiencing an Eastern medicine modality, Lane said.

Many traditional medicines involve the use of natural substances.

Moxibustion, for example, involves the burning of the herb mugwort, and has been used to treat cancers. The American Cancer Society, while not endorsing its use, said a 2010 review of studies of moxibustion use during chemo suggested that it might help reduce the [associated] nausea and vomiting, but cautioned that the research methods were not rigorous enough to be certain.

Ayurveda is another traditional Eastern medicine that began in India. It includes using herbs, nutrition, acupressure massage and yoga. Ayurveda seeks to restore an individuals balance and harmony, contributing to a healthy, long life.

Ayurveda is based on three basic principles: diet, sleep and exercise. In Ayurveda, food is the No. 1 preventative medicine.

What spurred MLB investigation? Disgruntled Biogenesis employee

An employee deprived of a $4,000 investment that's what started the chain of events that led to Major League Baseball's suspensions of 13 players, including three-time most valuable player Alex Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, whose career accomplishments would otherwise make him a lock for the Hall of Fame, was suspended Monday for the remainder of this season and all of 2014. That suspension is set to take effect Thursday. Rodriguez has said he will appeal, and he would be allowed to play during that process.

The other players, a group that includes All-Stars Nelson Cruz of Texas, Jhonny Peralta of Detroit and Everth Cabrera of San Diego, all agreed to accept 50-game suspensions.

Porter Fischer is the man who provided the flash point for what became the biggest drug-related suspension in sports history. Fischer was a 40-something customer seeking help in bulking up his muscles when he met Tony Bosch, founder of an anti-aging clinic based in Coral Gables, Fla

Fischer eventually went to work as a marketer for Bosch, and later invested $4,000 in his company with, Fischer says, the promise of a 20% return that would come in weekly payments.

When those payments stopped last year the clinic, Biogenesis, closed in December Fischer started looking more closely into Bosch and Biogenesis. Among the information he turned up was a link between Bosch's father, Pedro, and former Dodgers star Manny Ramirez.

Ramirez had received a 50-game suspension from MLB in 2009 when he tested positive for HCG, a female fertility drug a substance Fischer had used. Fischer also found a connection between Bosch and then-suspended All-Star outfielder Melky Cabrera, who had tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

"That's when I started documenting," Fischer told the Village Voice earlier this year. "Look, if [Bosch] doesn't pay me, there's going to be collateral damage."

In January, using records Fischer pulled from Biogenesis, Miami New Times reported that Rodriguez and Cruz were among a large group of athletes whom Bosch had supplied with performance-enhancing substances. Most notably, Fischer provided four notebooks filled with handwritten notes by Bosch that identified clients, drug doses and payments.

The New Times report said Rodriguez was mentioned in Bosch's files from 2009 through 2012, and provided this excerpt: "There, at number seven on the list, is Alex Rodriguez. He paid $3,500, Bosch notes. Below that, he writes, '1.5/1.5 HGH (sports perf.) creams test., glut., MIC, supplement, sports perf. Diet."

Premier Anti-Aging Network Ageology Expands into Illinois with Dr. Geoff Jones and Jones Institute for Advanced Medicine

CHICAGO, Aug. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --Ageology, http://www.ageology.com, a premier anti-aging medicine company, today announced that Dr. Geoff Jones, MD, has joined the Ageology network. Helping patients regain and maintain optimum health and address the challenges associated with normal signs of aging is the purpose that unites Ageology and Jones. The addition of Geoff and his practice to the network further expands Ageology's corporate presence in Chicago.

"I am excited about the opportunity to work with Dr. Savage and join a team that is committed to anti-aging medicine," said Dr. Jones. "It is very rewarding to help people who are striving to live lives of quality as they age, but facing challenges that make such quality feel unattainable at times. Our goal is to help them change that dynamic and feel better about how they achieve it."

Dr. Jones completed his M.D. at the Loma Linda University of Medicine. He is a leader in anti-aging and preventive medicine in the Midwest, and since 1999 has limited his practice to these fields. Because of this depth of experience, he is a popular speaker at continuing education programs for physicians.

During the early 1990s, Dr. Jones encountered his own significant health problems. Trusted colleagues offered him medications that controlled some of his symptoms, but did nothing to correct the underlying causes. His health continued to decline.

His efforts to find solutions helped him recognize something about the standard medical approach he had not seen before: its focus on identifying and treating disease, not on producing health. He did not have a diagnosable disease. His malfunctioning was not yet serious enough. He needed a medical approach for regaining health.

This realization led Dr. Jones to extensive research, and finally to pursue training with some of the early leaders in health-oriented medicine such as: Vince Giampapa, M.D., first Chairman of the American Board of Anti-aging Medicine and Thierry Hertoghe, M.D., President of the International Hormone Society and President of the Belgium Society of Anti-aging Medicine. As a result, Dr. Jones left his previous practice and founded Jones Institute for Advanced Medicine. Now 60, he feels the best he has since his early 20s. He takes immense pleasure from helping others to do the same.

"Ageology is extremely pleased to have a physician of Geoff's caliber join the Ageology network," said Dr. Paul Savage, founder of Ageology, CEO and Chief Medical Director, and one of the nation's premier anti-aging physicians. "His commitment to the practice of aging medicine, and the individualized approach required to drive results for patients is the embodiment of our vision for Ageology."

About Ageology

Ageology is focused on the application of integrative healthy aging medical practices that help people regain and maintain their optimal health, despite the changes that occur as they age. The core treatment paradigm involves medical evaluation, nutrition and wellness guidance, as well as hormone and supplement therapy. Headquartered in Chicago, the company is built around a growing national network of integrative anti-aging physicians and experts, but is primarily driven by the vision of its founder, Dr. Paul Savage.

Fred Grimm: Focus on pro baseball ignores real doping crime: Kids on steroids

In a considerable mischaracterization, the Biogenesis scandal has been painted as an outrage against the integrity of Major League Baseball. Were told to revile the now-defunct anti-aging clinic in Coral Gables because it tempted sports heroes with performance-enhancing drugs and further sullied the reputation of the corporate conglomerate formerly known as Americas pastime.

Biogenesis not only implicated the likes of the Yankees Alex Rodriguez and the Brewers Ryan Braun along with 18 other professional baseball players in its doping racket, but to our collective horror did it after baseball Commissioner Bud Selig had declared doping virtually nonexistent and clearly a thing of the past.

Revelations seeping out of Biogenesis showed Selig to be a fool. And Major League Baseball, in league with the nations sportswriters, went after the players with such a fury that no one much noticed the real crimes perpetrated down at 1390 South Dixie Highway. Not even the Miami-Dade state attorneys office. Not even the local cops.

According to whistleblower Porter Fischer, Biogenesis of America was doping children. Injecting high school kids with illegal and dangerous amalgamations of anabolic steroids and human growth hormones. Along with professional and college athletes, the patient list at the storefront clinic included Miami-Dade high school ball players, come to emulate their pro heroes and cheat their way to stardom.

That should have been cause for outrage. But as Miami Herald reporter Julie Brown reported last week, these felonies were simply shrugged off by local law enforcement. Brown interviewed Fischer, the former employee and investor in Biogenesis turned whistleblower who, armed with incriminating documents filched from the clinic, ignited this latest pro baseball scandal.

But Fischer also offered up evidence of criminal medical procedures involving children. He told Brown that he had notified authorities that young athletes, mostly baseball players, from Gulliver, Columbus, St. Brendan, South Miami and other South Florida high schools had also been juiced at Biogenesis by Anthony Bosch, the clinics counterfeit doctor, who prescribed his pharmaceutical concoctions without the bother of a medical degree.

You want the stuff of outrage? Consider this quote from Fischers lawyer: I dont know why law enforcement hasnt gotten involved, to be honest, Raymond Rafool told Brown. We really cant figure it out. Porter is very upset. Youre talking about high school kids getting this stuff from this clinic. For kids who havent even given their bodies the opportunity to grow to be doing this was really disturbing to him.

Disturbing to him. Not to law enforcement. Not to the Miami-Dade state attorney.

Bosch got off with a $5,000 fine for practicing medicine without a license, levied by the Florida Department of Health pocket change in the highly profitable, ethically bankrupt world of anti-aging clinics.

Why no interest from local cops? Probably because the client list, as Brown reported, also included local cops (along with some lawyers and at least one judge.) It would be like expecting elementary schoolchildren to shut down Cold Stone Creamery.
