Russak Dermatology Clinic Offers Affordable Anti-Aging Tips

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 20, 2014

Anti-aging techniques and procedures have changed enormously over the years. Once funded only by the wealthy, it is now something attainable to the mainstream public.

With all the new developments in dermatology, anti-aging regimens have become something that is achievable for all, states Julie Russak, of Russak Dermatology. The goal is to make skincare simple and effective.

According to an article in Prime Journal, titled The Anti-Ageing Market: A Matter of Luxury? the reasons people often give for adopting anti-aging procedures often include the pressure to look young, and a belief that a youthful appearance can boost professional success. However, there is also a large number of people that are interested in cosmetic medicine because they want to feel as though they are presenting their best self. As people are living longer and remaining healthy longer, they want their body to reflect the way they feel on the inside young.

Procedures and clinical skincare are definitely an investment, but once introduced in the right fashion, you will be able to stick with it, states Russak.

Russak noted that many of their young patients are also interested in starting an anti-aging regimen. For these cases, she often recommends something that they can easily fit into their routine, like an antioxidant serum or a retinol product. Antioxidant serums are effective at reducing sun damage, and can help diminish discoloration.

Retinol, a vitamin A derivative, works to speed cell turnover, which promotes smoother, more evenly-toned skin. It can also make skin more sensitive to light and more prone to sunburn, so Russak suggests using it at night before bed. Both antioxidant serums and retinol tend to be budget-friendly, generally costing around $70 or less.

For patients with more advanced signs of aging, Russak recommends treatments such as medical facials, peels, and gentle lasers. Medical facials slow the aging process and slough off dead skin cells, tighten skin, and reduce wrinkles.

Peels work to shrink pores and remove dead skin cells. Lasers can be an effective weapon against sun spots, wrinkles, and discoloration, and the procedure is achieved with little discomfort to the patient.

The key is to find a dermatologist you trust, and one that will create a skincare path that is not only attainable, but also effective, designed specifically for your needs. My goal is to help all my patients, no matter how limited the resources, achieve healthy, beautiful skin, says Russak.

Red wine compound may improve memory

A substance found in red wine and dark chocolate that has been touted for its supposed anti-aging effects may improve people's memory, new research suggests.

In a study of overweight adults, those who took resveratrol supplements for six months had better short-term recall than their counterparts who took a placebo. The people who took the supplement also had more connections among brain areas involved in memory, and this paralleled improvements over the study period in their ability to break down sugar in the body, researchers found.

This small pilot study, detailed Wednesday (June 4) in the Journal of Neuroscience, is the first to show a link between the red wine compound and cognition in overweight adults, said Veronica Witte, a neuroscientist at the Charit UniversittsmedizinBerlin in Germany. [6 Foods That Are Good for Your Brain]

"From a clinical point of view, our findings suggest that regular, high-level intake of resveratrol in the elderly may convey protective effects on cognitive functions, a hypothesis that now needs to be evaluated in large-scale clinical trials," Witte told Live Science.

Brain booster?

Aside from red wine and dark chocolate, sources of resveratrol include red grapes, peanuts, blueberries and Japanese knotweed. Doctors think the compound mimics the effects of a restricted-calorie diet on the body.

Some studies have linked resveratrol to benefits in aging, heart health and anti-cancer effects. But other studies suggest the compound has no effect on longevity. Few studies have investigated resveratrol's effects on cognition, and those that have done so investigated nonhuman primates, the researchers said.

In the new study, Witte and her colleagues tested 46 participants who were overweight, but otherwise healthy. Previous studies suggest resveratrol's effects are more pronounced in overweight individuals.

Half of the volunteers were randomly assigned to take 200 milligrams of resveratrol daily for six months, while the other half received a placebo. Neither the researchers nor the volunteers knew who was receiving the supplement or the placebo.

Before and after the six-month period, the participants took a memory test, gave a blood sample and had their brains scanned using functional magnetic resonance imaging, which measures changes in blood flow as a proxy for brain activity.

Can enough money buy you eternal youth?

NEW YORK (CNNMoney)

No need to go that far.

It turns out, the best kind of anti-aging treatment is inside one's own body, and the rich are taking advantage of it, exploring the latest research in new technologies, genome mapping and stem cell treatments.

Among them is Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison, a large investor of the Ellison Medical Foundation, which supports research exploring the biology that underlies aging and age-related diseases. And there's billionaire Peter Nygrd, who says he wants to live forever (or die trying), and has suggested he's found the keys to immortality in stem cell research.

Some doctors agree that stem cells are a key part of chasing youth.

"If you're a wealthy guy and haven't stored your stem cells, I think you're a total idiot," said Dr. Lionel Bissoon, a New York City physician who sees a number of stressed out, wealthy patients.

Related: It's expensive being rich

They usually come to him with similar problems: "Fatigue, belly fat, erectile dysfunction, tiring very quickly ... all very common with my patients from Wall Street," Bissoon said. The short-term solution to those ailments, he says, is testosterone replacement -- which is relatively affordable at a few hundred dollars a pop -- and IV nutrition.

For the long term he recommends stem cell storage, which works as a sort of rainy day insurance. The cells are extracted, preferably when the patient is on the younger side -- around 30 is said to be a good age -- and can then be used to boost an immune system or help to rebuild damaged organs later.

People are looking and finding ways to be able to help them to live longer to spend the money theyve earned, he said. They spend their retirement going doctor to doctor, and if we can find ways to prevent that it would be good. His clinic sees executives under a lot of stress, a fast way to damage any immune system.

He agrees that its important to store cells before they become irreparably damaged. To collect and store stem cells at his clinic costs $15,000 for the initial extraction, which includes a year of storage. After that, storage costs $50 per month.

Stem cells arent the only high-end solution.

New Michael Todd True Organics Review by Health Writer Laura O'Connor Examines Knu Anti Aging Face Lift Serum

West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) May 30, 2014

Knu Anti Aging Face Lift Serum is a beauty product designed for both men and women with any skin type who are dealing with the challenges brought about by premature skin aging, including fine lines, puffy eyes, under eye circles, wrinkles, and dark circles.

The Michael Todd True Organics reviews online (most for the Knu Serum or Facelift Cream) and the large amount of hype surrounding the product line caught the attention of RequestedReview.coms Laura OConnor, prompting an investigative review.

While numerous companies boast of their products containing a single key ingredient, Michael Todd True Organics claim to have in fact created a product comprised of a combination of key natural age prevention ingredients including epidermal growth factor, snail serum, alpha hydroxyl acids and DMAE, fused with a combination of natural organic anti-aging ingredients, states OConnor.

Another interesting fact O'Connor discovered is that the product lives up to the line's name with a product formulation that is made with 70% percent organic ingredients, including jasmine, green tea, aloe vera, cranberry, essential oils whose purpose is to soothe, heal and provide antioxidant protection.

In her review of Knu Anti Aging Serum, O'Connor talks about the company background and philosophy as well as ingredients, reviews and results. The product is endorsed by Manhattans Eric Braverman, M.D., a prominent authority on anti-aging medicine who not only uses the product, but recommends it to his patients. Other celebrity endorsers for Knu Anti Aging Serum include Gillian Anderson, Jillian Barberie, and Tiffani Thiessen.

OConnor says the numerous celebrity endorsements are impressive because stars are very protective of who they allow to use their images and endorsements. She also likes how Michael Todd True Organics Knu Anti Aging Face Lift is not just all about organic ingredients but also about science and includes the latest anti-aging ingredients.

The entire Michael Todd Organics line follows this formula, comments O'Connor, Other popular Michael Todd products such as the Eyeosonic Duo and Damascus Rose Moisturizer, also don't contain added water, sulfates, parabens, synthetic fragrances, or artificial dye - and are not tested on animals, says OConnor.

In conclusion, O'Connor gives the whole Michael Todd skin care line and the Knu serum in particular her recommendation.

Judith Crowell, M.D. trusted expert in cosmetic skincare treatments

Dr. Judith Crowell

People are living longer, healthier lives. With this positive trend comes an increase in the popularity and prevalence of anti-aging skincare products and cosmetic procedures. Spas, salons and cosmetic counters all offer products that promise the fountain of youth. Even nurses, general practitioners, gynecologists and dentists are joining the trend, performing Botox, Dysport and filler injections. But beware, says Judith Crowell, M.D.

These treatments should not be taken lightly, she explained. They are extremely effective when performed correctly, but can have terrible results when they are not.

Dr. Crowell is seeing more and more patients who are seeking her help to correct cosmetic procedures done elsewhere, which resulted in bumps under the eyes, puffy lips or drooping eyelids.

The bottom line: You are putting your appearance and possibly your health at risk when you go to someone who is not properly trained in the aesthetics and anatomy of the skin and muscles that are affected by Botox and injectable fillers, says Dr. Crowell. Your skin, after all, is your bodys largest organ. Who do you trust to help you take care of it?

A qualified doctor has studied what occurs in the aging face, Dr. Crowell said. It takes knowledge, skill, credentials and experience to combine the science and art necessary to achieve a beautiful and natural look.

Dr. Crowell is a Board-certified dermatologist with more than 20 years of experience in medical and aesthetic dermatology. She graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and Iron Arrow Honor Society the highest honor that can be attained. Her internship in internal medicine was at Stanford University Hospital and her residency in dermatology was performed at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She completed her undergraduate studies at Boston University and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Dr. Crowell is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Dermatology, a Fellow of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, adjunct professor at Barry Universitys Physician Assistant Program and a volunteer clinical associate professor at the University of Miami Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery. She has been recognized as one of Miamis Top Dermatologists by Castle Connolly Top Doctors for over a decade, and was specifically recognized as a top doctor in the field of cosmetic injectable fillers.

Dr. Crowell specializes in using various injectables and lasers to give her patients a refreshed, natural, younger-looking appearance. Its important to note that treatments are not one size fits all, she says.

Each injectable filler and each laser has a special purpose, and you need to know how to use them to achieve the best results, Dr. Crowell added.

Ethos Spa Announces the Addition of Xeomin Botox-Alternative Treatments to Its Line of Popular Anti-aging Treatments

Summit, New Jersey (PRWEB) May 28, 2014

Ethos Spa Skin and Laser Centers has announced the addition of Xeomin to its growing line of anti-aging injectable products used that target deep lines and wrinkles. Xeomin is an additives-free Botox alternative for reducing or eliminating glabellar linesthose deep vertical frown lines on the face that resemble the number 11 between the eyebrows. Xeomin is often used along with Botox to treat wrinkles, severe frown lines and crows feet.

Manufactured by Merz Aesthetics, Xeomin works by softening lines and wrinkles, and by blocking signals between facial nerves and muscles to prevent muscle contractions. Xeomins effects become visible within one week, and the results last from three to six months, making it comparable to Botox in terms of both onset and duration of results.

Xeomin gained U.S. approval after two pivotal clinical trials involving 16 investigational sites and 547 healthy adult patients whose glabellar lines were significantly reduced within 30 days of their first Xeomin injection. Because it is a naked (additive-free) form of the botulinum toxin type A, Xeomin is the only botulinum toxin currently approved in the U.S. that does not require refrigeration prior to reconstitution.

Anti-aging products like Botox, Dysport and Xeomin have plenty in common, but they also have some important differences. Although all three contain the botulinum toxin, Xeomin is the only pure form of botulinum toxin type A, which may lessen the patient's likelihood of developing antibodies and triggering an allergic reaction.

Originally prescribed to treat Cervical Dystonia (a painful condition in which neck muscles contract involuntarily) and Blepharospasm (an abnormal contractions or twitch of the eyelid,) Xeomin has being used in Europe for cosmetic procedures to reduce fine lines and wrinkles for years.

Many patients and practitioners prefer neurotoxins for anti-aging cosmetic treatments instead of microdermabrasion and chemical peels because the botulinum toxin works more directly and releases wrinkles for months at a time. Plus, injectable neurotoxin treatments do not require the same downtime or cost commitments as traditional facial surgeries such as face or brow lifts. Injectable products such as Xeomin, Botox and Dysport require only a brief office visit, and most patients return to work that same day.

Both Botox and Xeomin take about 7 days for the full effects to be visible, and results last an average three to six months before another treatment is required.

For more information on Xeomin anti-aging treatments or any of the expert aesthetic services available at the Ethos Spa, Skin and Laser Center, visit the Ethos Spa website, call the Summit location at (908) 273-5400, or call the Englewood location at (201) 541-6600.

Can Tai Chi slow the aging process?

PUBLIC RELEASE DATE:

28-May-2014

Contact: Robert Miranda cogcomm@aol.com Cell Transplantation Center of Excellence for Aging and Brain Repair

Putnam Valley, NY. (May 28, 2014) Tai Chi, a traditional Chinese martial art and sport, has been found to be beneficial in raising the numbers of an important type of cell when three groups of young people were tested to discover the benefits of Tai Chi, brisk walking or no exercise. The group performing Tai Chi saw a rise in their cluster of differentiation 34 expressing (CD34+) cells, a stem cell important to a number of the body's functions and structures.

The study was published in issue 23(4/5) of Cell Transplantation and is freely available on-line at: http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/cog/ct/2014/00000023/F0020004/art00020.

"To evaluate the potential life-lengthening effect of Tai Chi, we conducted a year-long, retrospective cross-sectional study comparing the rejuvenating and anti-aging effects among three groups of volunteers under the age of 25 who engaged in either Tai Chi (TCC), brisk walking (BW), or no exercise habit (NEH)," said study corresponding author Dr. Shinn-Zong Lin of the Center for Neuropsychiatry, China Medical University Hospital, Taichung, Taiwan. "We used young volunteers because they have better cell-renewing abilities than the old population and we also wanted to avoid having chronic diseases and medications as interfering factors."

According to the authors, Tai Chi "has been confirmed to benefit" patients with mild to moderate Parkinson's disease and fibromyalgia. In addition, they cite possible advantages of Tai Chi in pain reduction, fall prevention and balance improvement, aerobic capacity, blood pressure, quality of life and stress reduction.

"Compared with the NEH group, the TCC group had a significantly higher number of CD 34+ cells," wrote the authors. "We found that the CD34+ cell count of the TCC group was significantly higher than the BW group."

CD 34+ cells, they explained, express the CD 34 protein and are "cluster markers" for hematopoietic stem cells (blood stem cells) involved in cell self-renewal, differentiation and proliferation.

"It is possible that Tai Chi may prompt vasodilation and increase blood flow," said Lin. "Considering that BW may require a larger space or more equipment, Tai Chi seems to be an easier and more convenient choice of anti-aging exercise." "This study provides the first step into providing scientific evidence for the possible health benefits of Tai Chi." said Dr. Paul R. Sanberg, distinguished professor at the Center of Excellence for Aging and Brain Repair, Morsani College of Medicine, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL. "Further study of how Tai Chi can elicit benefit in different populations and on different parameters of aging are necessary to determine its full impact."

Lifespan Boosted in Worms via Dietary Supplement Compound

It's premature to call the compound, alpha-ketoglutarate, an antiaging drug, but it has been found to extend the longevity of C. elegans by 50 percent

Caenorhabditis elegans treated with a -ketoglutarate displayed youthful vigour even after two weeks. Credit:Zeynep F. Altun via Wikimedia Commons

A compound available in some dietary supplements extends lifespan in the nematode worm Caenorhabditiselegansby interfering with cellular energy production and mimicking the effects of severe calorie restriction. The results, published online inNaturetoday, suggest that the compound, called -ketoglutarate, could provide a way to increase longevity.

Though intriguing, data linking the compound to longevity are limited to short-term studies in a worm and should not lead people to start taking -ketoglutarate supplements, cautions Matt Kaeberlein, who studies ageing at the University of Washington in Seattle. I'm not sure I would characterize -ketoglutarate as an anti-ageing drug yet, says Kaeberlein, who was not involved in the study. Its premature.

Power interruption Chemical biologist Jing Huang at the University of California in Los Angeles and her colleagues stumbled on -ketoglutarate while screening metabolites for the ability to improve lifespan inC. elegans. -ketoglutarate boosted longevity by about 50% over untreated controls.

Differences in behavior were also clear, says Huang: as untreated worms surpassed the age of two weeks, they became sluggish. They move their head if you poke them, she says, but otherwise theres not much activity. Treated nematodes, however, wriggled and squirmed with youthful vigor.

-Ketoglutarate is a component of a metabolic pathway called the tricarboxylic acid cycle, which is part of cells' energy-generating machinery. Huang and her colleagues found that -ketoglutarate can also inhibit a crucial enzyme called ATP synthase. That enzyme is the main producer of ATP, the chemical energy currency in cells, and so reduces energy production in the body.

Huang and her colleagues reasoned that the interruption in energy production could mimic the effects of diets very low in calories, which have beenshown to extend lifespan in some animals. To back up this notion, they also showed that calorie restriction raised levels of -ketoglutarate.

Calorie counter Calorie restriction had no added effect on longevity in worms given -ketoglutarate, suggesting that the metabolite is a key part of the mechanism by which low-calorie diets aid longevity. If this is so, the findings hint at a way to gain the benefits of calorie restriction without the suffering. Only a dedicated few are able to withstand the rigors of such dietary deprivation.

But while the results are promising, researchers need to pursue longer-term studies in animals that more closely resemble humans to fully understand -ketoglutarates potential, cautions Brian Kennedy, president of the Buck Institute for Research on Aging in Novato, California. We dont just want to make the animals live longer, he adds. We want to make them healthy longer.
