Anatomy of Romney's Disputed Auto Ad

President Obama's and Mitt Romney's campaigns have two dramatically different readings of a heavily disputed ad airing in the battleground state of Ohio that suggests auto companies General Motors and Chrysler are planning to ship jobs overseas.

A closer look at the history behind the ad, and Romney's similar statements on the campaign trail, show how a fairly routine business story became the dominant political football in the final days of the campaign, as both candidates stake their claim to Ohio with the president guarding a slight lead in the polls.

"Obama took GM and Chrysler into bankruptcy, and sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China," the Romney ad says. "Mitt Romney will fight for every American job."

Romney also said on the campaign trail in Ohio on Oct. 25 that he had learned from a news story that day that Jeep "is thinking of moving all production to China."

The ad started running a few days later on Oct. 28.

Chrysler has vehemently denied the ad's suggestion that adding Jeep production facilities in China will cost U.S. jobs. The company's CEO said this week that any such statement would be "inaccurate." GM has also flatly denied the Romney campaign's claims in a new radio ad airing in Ohio that suggested the company is shipping jobs to China.

Romney campaign officials stand behind the ad, which they say is accurate and only suggests that if jobs are being created in China, they are not being created in the United States.

What the ad claims and what it implies might be two separate issues, but Romney's aides initially claimed that the GOP challenger's Oct. 25 comments about Jeep in Defiance, Iowa were based on an early version of a Bloomberg News article that first reported on Chrysler's plans for production in China.

The article, written by a Michigan-based industry reporter Oct. 22, said the company would be "adding Jeep production sites," not shifting them to China. Chrysler itself called the piece "clear and accurate."

And a representative for Bloomberg told ABC News that the article was updated on the same day it was published with background information, days before Romney's Jeep claims made an appearance on the trail.

The Anatomy of 'Frankenstorm' [VIDEO]

The scariest thing you'll see this Halloween, at least if you live along the East Coast of the U.S., may not be an adult dressed in a "Honey Boo Boo" costume. Rather, it's likely to be the effects of "Frankenstorm."

[More from Mashable: Hurricane Isaac Hits New Orleans: Social Media Plays Eye Witness]

Frankenstorm is the name the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has given the monster weather event that's expected to hit the eastern seaboard sometime around -- you guessed it -- Halloween.

We could try explaining to you why it's called Frankenstorm, but the best and most clearheaded explanation we've found yet comes from the Associated Press Science Writer Seth Borenstein. He describes the weather event as "a collection of things," combining Hurricane Sandy (heading northward in the Atlantic ocean), a storm front from the western part of the U.S. and some cold air mixed in from the Great Lakes.

[More from Mashable: This Amazing Photo Is Not Of Tropical Storm Isaac]

Watch and learn. Knowing won't prevent Frankenstorm's arrival, but understanding its makeup and potential intensity could help you better prepare. Speaking of which, if you live on the East Coast of the U.S., how are your preparing for "Frankenstorm?"

'Grey's Anatomy' Preview: Arizona Takes a Big Step, While Meredith Holds Back (Videos)

"Grey's Anatomy's" Jessica Capshaw

Arizona is preparing to take a big step forward on this week's Grey's Anatomy.

During Thursday's episode, titled "I Saw Her Standing There," the formerly cheery pediatrics surgeon begins to take control of her life following the plane crash that forced the amputation of her left leg.

STORY: 'Grey's Anatomy' Recap: Settling In for the Long Haul

Ethan Embry (Empire Records) guest stars as David, who gets off to a rocky start as Arizona's (Jessica Capshaw) prosthetist as they begin the process of getting her back on her feet. While Arizona is still less than pleased to be there, the good-natured doc does have some good news for Arizona: There's no scar tissue and her amputation is healing well.

STORY: 'Grey's Anatomy's' Jessica Capshaw on Arizona's Heartbreaking Loss and What's Next

Meanwhile, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) realizes that she can't share all the (exciting) details of her surgical exploits with Derek, who is still unable to operate and continues to find his new career teaching less than a suitable replacement.

STORY: 'Grey's Anatomy's' Kevin McKidd on Hope for Cristina and Owen: 'They're Still Destined to be Together'

As for the Chief, BCB Bailey (Chandra Wilson) gives him a hard time for sporting a spiffy tie to the hospital. After Webber (James Pickens Jr.) blows her off, citing that he's just taking pride in his appearance, his true motive is revealed when Jackson's mother, Catherine (Debbie Allen) seems to take a liking to his more-formal attire.

Check out the clips from the episode, above and below, and hit the comments with your thoughts. Are you happy to see Arizona's progress?

Anatomy of a campaign ad: 'The Romney-Mourdock ticket'

Liberal super PAC American Bridge releases a video aligning Mitt Romney with the Republican Indiana Senate candidate whose abortion views are fueling outrage

The ad creator: Liberal super PAC American Bridge

The ad: The spot mischievously recasts Mitt Romney's recent endorsement ad for Richard Mourdock (R) as a seeming endorsement of inflammatory comments the Indiana Senate candidate made at an Oct. 23 debate namely that pregnancies that result from rape are what "God intended to happen." The American Bridge ad begins by quoting Romney saying he supports Mourdock in the Indiana race, then a block of text fills the screen: "And what does Richard Mourdock support?" Using clips from the Senate hopeful's various speeches on the trail, the ad accuses Mourdock of "normalizing rape," "extremism" for requesting more zealots in the Republican Party, "climate change denial" for calling "man-induced climate change" a hoax, and "blind partisanship" for dismissing the value of bipartisanship. As these clips play, a silly looking photo of Romney giving the thumbs up hovers in the screen's corner.

SEE MORE: Pennsylvania Senate: The race at a glance

The ad buy: The group has not disclosed the size of the ad buy.

The strategy:The ad's goal is fairly simple, says Politico.American Bridge wants to smear Romney by creating the illusion that he and Mourdock are "campaigning together" on Mourdock's platform and hit two birds with one stone.

SEE MORE: 5 controversial ballot initiatives from around the nation

The reaction: Mourdock "unofficially lost the race" with his abortion remarks, "apparently [forgetting] that women vote," says Michael Luciano at PolicyMic. Mourdock has since clarified his statement, saying, "God creates life, and that was my point. God does not want rape, and by no means was I suggesting that he does." While Romney immediately disavowed Mourdock's statement, other Republicans came to the Senate candidate's defense, including National Republican Senatorial Committee Executive Director Rob Jesmer, who tells The Hill that Mourdock's belief "is something a lot of Republicans and a lot of Democrats believe. Most pro-life people believe life is a gift." Still, says Cameron Joseph at The Hill, the "comments could hurt Mourdock, who has failed to pull ahead" of his Democratic opponent Rep. Joe Donnelly in the polls, despite Indiana's heavy Republican tilt. And this ad wont help.

Grey's Anatomy's Kevin McKidd on Cristina's Big Mistake and His "Upbeat" Episode

Sandra Oh and Kevin McKidd

Grey's Anatomy will lighten up a bit when Kevin McKidd steps behind the camera for the fourth time for Thursday's episode.

Following the plane crash which brought on the deaths of Mark (Eric Dane) and Lexie (Chyler Leigh) and the amputation of Arizona's (Jessica Capshaw) leg Grey's kicked off its ninth season on a very dark note. But McKidd promises he's about to turn that around with what he calls an "upbeat" episode.

Grey's Anatomy Scoop: Is there hope for Cristina and Owen?

"I think the writers felt the audience needed a break, so Episode 4 is really fun," McKidd tells TVGuide.com. "All my other episodes have been quite intense, so it's been really fun to break out of that. I think people will be relieved to take a rest and just get to have fun with the show a little bit after the first few episodes."

The storylines that offer comedic relief include a patient with huge testicles, which McKidd says they had trouble shooting around. Plus: Catherine Avery (Debbie Allen) returns, which causes a rift between Jackson (Jesse Williams) and Dr. Webber (James Pickens, Jr.). "Jackson and Richard have a big standoff about the ongoing saga of him dating Catherine," McKidd teases. "Bailey [Chandra Wilson] weighs in on that."

Grey's Anatomy is a drama, however, so there will be one very large obstacle for fans of Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen's relationship. to get through this week. Spoiler Alert: The promos don't lie! "[Cristina] has a sexual relationship with somebody else in Minnesota," McKidd says. Dun Dun Dunnnn! Also... really? Dr. Parker (Steven Culp)? Really?!

But there is hope on the horizon: McKidd says Cristina's exploits are an "empty experience for her."

"It fulfills a certain need for her, but there's certainly not that same thing that she gets when Cristina and Owen are together," he says. "It's going to be really interesting to see how to get back and whether they're able to. They may still love each other, but there might just be too much hurt going on. There might just be too much baggage to really be able to heal or rebuild. It's a painful truth, but I think Cristina and Owen wish they could be back together, even though they're apart."

Anatomy of a Fall: How Dangerous Was Casey Wilson's Glass Window Fall on Happy Endings?

Eliza Coupe, Casey Wilson

Sixteen stiches. That was the price Happy Endings paid for one of the funniest falls through a glass window ever.

Thanksgiving clams! The year of Max! 8 spoilers for Happy Endings Season 3

Fortunately, Casey Wilson did not have to pay that price, since it was a stunt double that stood in for the comedian, who portrays the hopelessly single Penny on the ABC comedy. "I did the beginning and the end and we had a stunt double," Wilson tells TVGuide.com. "I was like, 'I'll let her do this." I went back to my trailer. She went through the glass. Eliza [Coupe] came and banged on the door. She's like, 'There's trouble!'

"The woman had to go to the hospital to make me look funny," the SNL alum continues. "She had blood all over her like Carrie. She was wonderful, and she's totally fine. Because the glass is so fine, it makes you bleed so it was one of the scariest things we've ever seen. We only did one take and it worked."

Anatomy of a Fall: Modern Family's Julie Bowen went down hard by accident

No stranger to physical comedy, Wilson had actually offered to do the stunt herself. "I thought it would be funny, like, 'I'll go through the plate glass. That's fun to do your own stunts!' What am I, Charlize Theron? No! They're like, 'You can't go through the glass, it really cuts you.' I was like, 'My face! My beautiful face! I can't go through there!'

"It was worth it," she continues. "I didn't want to tell [the stunt double] there was no film in the camera," Wilson says with a laugh. Obviously, she's joking. In case you didn't watch it over and over again on your DVR already, you can watch it again (and again) below:

Happy Endings airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on ABC.

Blue Bloods Review: Whatever It Takes

The Reagan family has 115 years of police history sitting around its dinner table.  It's a family that has had to weigh the "Risk and Reward" of the job on more occasions than they probably remember.

So when Frank told Danny to do whatever it took to find Detective Mulrow, he didn't give that order lightly.

Danny Searches For a Hostage

Was it the right call to make?  Obviously it achieved the desired result.  A decorated detective's life was saved but the risk of taking Abdul out of prison and placing him in Danny's custody was huge.  So many things could have gone wrong. I kept wondering if that was Omar's goal to begin with so that he could break his brother out of prison.

Danny's ploy of turning Sayid over to Malaysian special forces was well played and the detectives from Vice looked menacing enough in their big, black SUV to pull it off.

As much as Frank Reagan's the moral compass of Blue Bloods, at times his choices are questionable.  There's certainly an argument for both sides here.

Frank's position is to uphold the law. When he bends it or breaks it, or allows others to do so, how can we trust in that system?

At the same time don't we all want to believe that there is someone in charge that is willing to do whatever it takes to keep us safe, whether that's an entire city or just one innocent man.  Wasn't that why 24 was such a hit after 9/11.  The audience found comfort in the thought that Jack Bauer was out there willing to do whatever it takes.

Out of that 115 years of NYPD experience, 60 of them belonged to Henry Reagan. I loved the idea of having him ride along with Jamie, I just wished we had seen them do more than deal with a pizza truck dispute.

When Henry agreed with Jamie's partner about hauling the bickering brother and sister off to jail, it obviously irked Jamie. Again, I had to agree with a partner. The brother and sister were like a couple of bickering children only their petty dispute was ending with 911 calls.  At some point they needed to learn that there would be consequences or as Henry put it in this Blue Bloods quote

Sometimes a kick in the ass is worth a thousand words. | permalink

When Jamie accused Henry of believing he was a bad cop I had to roll my eyes.  At what point does Jamie Reagan stop sounding like a belligerent teenager?

And I had trouble believing that after multiple visits to the scene that one stern talking to by Jamie was all it took to resolve this family feud.

So, did you enjoy Henry's ride along? Was Jamie right to take offense or was he far too sensitive when it came to Henry's comments about his partner. And did you agree with Frank's decision to do whatever it takes?

Grimm Review: One of Two Choices

It’s rather surprising that Grimm, a show that plays with Halloween on a weekly basis, could not pull off a very compelling Halloween episode.

Sure, "La Llorona" as a person with the screaming, bleeding eyes, creepy factor identity as a ghost is totally working for her on Halloween, but her story did not offer anything very compelling. Her only real purpose, it seems, was to get Juliette involved with the family so the Grandma could tell her she has a choice to make.

The Bully of Halloween

Which is a great launching pad as Juliette heads off on the next part of her journey this season; however, Juliette’s “choice” isn’t really hers to make. Since the beginning of the season, Juliette’s choices are really just symptoms of her current ailment.

With Juliette’s memories of Nick still completely gone, it’s hard to see how any choice Juliette ends up making will have any honesty whatsoever because those decisions will be made under false pretenses.

Sure, Juliette can try her best to make the right choices, and I believe she knows what the “right” choice is, but, on the other hand, I also have a feeling that she might want to see what the “other” choice might bring about. Especially when this obsession Renard has with her, at times, looks like a two way street.

Aside from Juliette, “La Llorona” didn’t have much to it, nor it did it push anything else along that was mildly interesting aside from Monroe. Even then, Monroe seems to be lost in the wild while Rosalee is off helping her family.

To be frank, aside from the one scene with Juliette tonight's episode ends up being one of the most boring episodes of Grimm I have ever watched, and that disappoints me the most.

Other thoughts:

  • Ever since Hank got in on the action the Grimm-pedias have English descriptions.
  • How many children cases in a row are we going to get?
  • Juliette lived in Spain, which borders France, could she have had a royal encounter?
  • At least Monroe got to scare off some no good kids!

Grey’s Anatomy Photo Preview: "Beautiful Doom"

Grey's Anatomy returns Thursday, November 8 with "Beautiful Doom," an installment that will find a young woman in peril after getting trapped under a car and Meredith Grey desperate to save her life.

This case, clearly, hits close to home for the show's titular character.

Mer and Lil Zola

This is just half of the Meredith & Cristina-centric episode, which features the two friends continuing to cope with life after the plane crash and their ever-growing responsibilities at their respective hospitals.

As Meredith juggles taking care of Zola during the aforementioned crisis, Cristina assists Dr. Thomas on a challenging heart surgery, as seen in ABC's first Grey's Anatomy promo for the show's return.
