You can increase your overall percentage by scoring 90 to 95% marks through a good project. 2. An industry-oriented project can add extra weightage to your resume and help you get a good job in the core mechanical industry. 3. A technically good project can give you an added advantage if you are planning for higher studies in US, UK, Germany etc. Hence, make your final-year project valuable even if it takes a little more time and effort. Choose the right industry You can choose one of the following industries for your project: Aerospace, Automobile, Marine, HVAC, Oil Gas, Industrial, Turbo-machines, Machine-tools, Appliances etc. Choose the right type You can choose one of the following types: a. Experimental Projects: i. This type of projects need good lab-facilities and hi-tech instrumentsfor measuring your experimental set-upaccurately. Only IITs and IISc have such facilities. Students from Tier II and private colleges try their best but mostly end-up in cooking-up the results or change the project at the last moment due to non-availability of the above facilities. ii. Also it involves more time and cost for setting up the project for those students who are already tightly scheduled with final-exams or campus interviews. iii. This type is feasible for those who don #39;t have such constraints. b. Design Projects: i ...From:afsar mViews:4 0ratingsTime:00:51More inEducation

Federal government, foreign competitor interest signals significance of aerospace to international trade

OTTAWA, Dec. 6, 2012 /CNW/ - The importance of aerospace trade was highlighted at today's conclusion of the Canadian Aerospace Summit, an event that drew a record-breaking attendance that included an A-list of aerospace industry executives, as well as foreign diplomats and senior Canadian federal officials.

"Canada's world-class aerospace sector is an international success story," said the Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway. "By supporting tens of thousands of good jobs that families rely on in every region of the country and contributing billions to the Canadian economy, aerospace is a sector that symbolizes Canadian excellence. Our government is committed to ensuring this vital industry benefits from new markets that we are opening as part of the most ambitious trade expansion plan in our nation's history."

The Summit played host to more than 650 participants, including foreign delegations from Russia, Mexico, Spain, Ukraine and Poland among others.

"It's a sign of the times. These countries are paying close attention to what Canada is saying, and they will be watching even more closely to see how we follow through," said Hlne Gagnon, incoming Chair of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada, and the Vice President of Public Affairs, Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility for Bombardier Aerospace. "It is now up to our industry and the government to act on the recommendations of the Aerospace Review, including those aimed at enhancing Canada's international trade relationships in this knowledge-intensive and high value industry."

Jim Quick, President and CEO of AIAC added that the Summit's resounding success reflects the aerospace industry's momentum as well as its value and importance to Canada.

"Minister Paradis and Minister Fast both indicated their support for the industry during the Summit. We thank them for their commitment to maintaining the world-class status of Canada's aerospace industry, and we look forward to working with them and their officials to implement the Report's recommendations," concluded Mr. Quick.

AIAC is the national association representing Canada's aerospace manufacturing and services sector. As the world's fifth-largest aerospace industry, Canada's aerospace sector generates more than $22 billion, exports 80% of its output, and dedicates over 20% of its manufacturing activity to research and development (R&D). Aerospace is responsible for the employment of 160,000 Canadians. AIAC represents the interests of over 700 aerospace companies across Canada.

Aerospace Review takes limelight at national aerospace summit

OTTAWA, Dec. 5, 2012 /CNW/ - A federally mandated report released last week proposing urgent and strong action required for Canada's aerospace industry to maintain its global leadership position is spurring action at a national aerospace summit now taking place in Ottawa.

Led by former Cabinet Minister David Emerson, the comprehensive, arm's length Aerospace Review - released on November 29 - proposes bold steps, including a number of fiscally neutral solutions and improvements to Canadian aerospace policies and programs, to protect Canadian economic interests amid the sector's increasingly competitive and complex global realities.

Addressing an audience that included a blue-chip roster of Canadian aerospace leaders, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry, said the federal government is committed to building on its partnership with AIAC to create "the industry of tomorrow."

"That is why I launched the Review in the first place. And it is why I am working with my Cabinet colleagues to give the findings the consideration they deserve," said Mr. Paradis, who added, "I will continue to champion this industry across this country and around the world."

David Schellenberg, Chairman of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada and CEO of Conair Group, Inc. and Cascade Aerospace, Inc. said, "In an industry that deals with complex, long-term risk and production cycles, a productive relationship with government is essential. The Minister's support and belief in the strategic importance that aerospace has for Canada and his commitment to build on our partnership with AIAC is invaluable."

Underscoring the need to work decisively, Mr. Schellenberg said AIAC and its member companies are unified in their approach.

"Our AIAC Board is already working on a post-Report strategy, part of which will include aligning our committee structure to advance work on skills issues, research and technology development and other priority areas identified in the report."

For example, Mr. Schellenberg says several of Mr. Emerson's recommendations rely heavily on partnership and collaboration. "Our industry's commitment to developing strong domestic and global partnerships that take advantage of opportunities and maximise our strengths will be essential to our ability to remain competitive."

He said the record turn-out at the 2012 Canadian Aerospace Summit is an example of the kind of collaborative and forward-thinking approach industry needs.

Drawing on his broader background in policy development, Mr. Emerson commented on the important implications a strong aerospace sector has for the national interest, saying, "Canada's position as a global leader in aerospace and a natural resource and energy powerhouse are not in conflict. The development of the north, and the resource bounty in remote areas, depends on our space and aerospace capacity. It provides a natural reinforcing linkage between aerospace technologies and products and the development of this vast northern land. Advanced manufacturing in a leading space and aerospace sector provides long term balance and stability for the benefit of generations to come."

LMI Aerospace to buy Valent for at least $237M

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- LMI Aerospace Inc., which provides design services and components for aircraft, said Thursday that it has agreed to buy Valent Aerostructures LLC for at least $237 million in cash and stock.

LMI, which is based in St. Louis, said the addition of Valent will diversify its lineup of products and services, while boosting the growth of its existing product platforms.

Kansas City, Mo.-based Valent provides structural components, major sub-assemblies and machined parts for manufacturers and larger suppliers in the aerospace and defense industries. It supplies significant content for several major commercial, business jet and military platforms, including a variety of Boeing aircraft models, LMI said.

Assuming the deal closes this year, LMI expects to generate over $480 million in revenue based on projected 2013 results of the combined companies.

As part of the acquisition, LMI said that Charlie and Henry Newell, Valent's current co-chief executives, will become co-presidents of LMI's aerostructures segment.

The deal includes $15 million in LMI stock, along with a potential earn out of up to $40 million if Valent exceeds certain profit thresholds next year.

In addition, LMI said the deal also includes about $9.7 million in "certain retained obligations."

The agreement was unanimously approved by LMI's board, but remains subject to a variety of closing conditions including regulatory approvals. It's expected to close by the end of the year.

LMI said that RBC Capital Markets has agreed to provide $300 million in new financing to pay for the acquisition, refinance existing debt and fund working capital requirements. LMI said it expects the acquisition to slightly lower its 2012 earnings per share, but significantly boost its profits in 2014.

LMI shares fell 67 cents, or 3.6 percent, to $18.15 in midday trading Thursday. Its shares have traded in a 52-week range of $14.97 to $21.41.

Hinode Views the Transit of Venus – Video

Hinode Views the Transit of Venus
Hinode Views the Transit of Venus A transit of Venus across the Sun takes place when the planet Venus passes directly between the Sun and Earth (or another planet), becoming visible against (and hence obscuring a small portion of) the solar disk. During a transit, Venus can be seen from Earth as a small black disk moving across the face of the Sun. The duration of such transits is usually measured in hours (the transit of 2012 lasted 6 hours and 40 minutes). A transit is similar to a solar eclipse by the Moon. While the diameter of Venus is more than 3 times that of the Moon, Venus appears smaller, and travels more slowly across the face of the Sun, because it is much farther away from Earth. On June 5, 2012, Hinode captured this stunning view of the transit of Venus -- the last instance of this rare phenomenon until 2117. Hinode is a joint JAXA/NASA mission to study the connections of the sun #39;s surface magnetism, primarily in and around sunspots. NASA #39;s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., manages Hinode science operations and oversaw development of the scientific instrumentation provided for the mission by NASA, and industry.
