A.J. DeLaGarza came to the Dynamo with eight years of pro experience and three MLS Cup titles. He had played for ultra-successful coach Bruce Arena and with league legends David Beckham and Landon Donovan.

If any of the Dynamo's new players had a chance to start fast under first-year coach Wilmer Cabrera it was him. Unfortunately for DeLaGarza, it wasn't that easy.

The right back never had played in a 4-3-3 formation.

"This was a new system for a lot of people," DeLaGarza said this week. "Just knowing where my support and my cover is, is all different."

As the second half of the regular season begins Saturday with a game at Colorado, DeLaGarza and the Dynamo are in a much better spot than they were when the season began.

A last-place finish in 2016 forced a roster overhaul in the off-season. New players came from Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Colombia, Uruguay, Los Angeles, Seattle, Rio Grande Valley FC, and the NCAA. They all were tasked with the challenge of meshing together in Cabrera's system.

It has taken six months, but Cabrera said the progress has been impressive.

"They are more bound to each other," he said. "They are more comfortable with each other. That is something you can feel every day when we practice."

Despite the newness, the team won early and often. Using an all-out attack that put pressure on opponents all over the field during home games, the Dynamo (7-6-4) sprinted to three wins in their first four games.

As they prepare to play their 18th of 34 regular season games, they remain undefeated at home and are tied for second place in the Western Conference.

Their road woes have been a big story. With a record of 0-6-2, they're still looking for their first win away from BBVA Compass Stadium. Recent road performances have been better, and had a linesman correctly raised his flag for offside in the dying moments of the road game against the LA Galaxy, they would not be winless on the road.

The improved performances prove to them they finally are ready to break through.

"It has been little steps, but consistent steps to improve, to adjust to each other as a team," Cabrera said. "(We have had) good mentality. The mentality has been getting stronger and stronger."

The consistent mentality has allowed the players to remain calm and positive during the low points. Despite their lacking number of road points, they're still in great position to challenge for one of the West's top two seeds.

DeLaGarza said that is significant because the team still believes it has a lot of improving to do compared to other teams whose players have been together longer than six months.

"We know quality is going to come," DeLaGarza said. "We are 17 games into playing with one another. It takes years of time together. Trying to put something together doesn't come overnight, so we are halfway through the season and we have to start ramping it up a little more."

Human Lifespan Evidence Now Being Challenged – Anti Aging News

Numerous medical researchers have publicly criticized a 2016 paper suggesting that people can live to a maximum of 115 years.

It has long been thought that human beings can live to a maximum of about 115 years. However, the limited amount of evidence for such a limit tohuman lifespan is now being contested. Five groups of medical researchers have publicly criticized a 2016 paper in Nature that suggests people can live to a maximum of 115 years.

About the Supposed Maximum Human Lifespan

The above-referenced paper made the headlines as its authors claimed that human longevity is inherently limited. The claimcatalyzed a spirited debate between scientists as plenty of people were not convinced by the paper's alleged evidence for a lifespan maximum of 115 years. It all centers on a2016 study led by Albert Einstein College of Medicine molecular geneticist Jan Vijg.

Vijg's research group delved into worldwide demographic data across the past century. The groupshowed that since the mid-1990s, the peak age leveled off at 115 years. These results prompted Vijg's group to claim human beings have a natural age limit of 115. They calculated the odds of an individual surviving beyond the age of 125 was less than 1 in 10,000.

The Response

Five groups of leading biological researchers responded to the paper published in Nature with a collection of formal rebuttals. These rebuttals were published on June 28 inNature Communications Arising. The rebuttals stateVijg's claim of an inherent limit to human lifespan is flawed. They argue it is an extreme claim that should be deeply scrutinized to verify or prove false. They arguean alternate explanation exists: the maximum age of human beings increases as time progresses. What looks to be an extension of lifespan is really just a finding derived by performing a superficial analysis of statistics that were used in an inappropriate manner.

Nick Brown, a University of Groningen PhD student and co-author of one of the rebuttals, states the primary problem with Vijg's study is that he used a dataset split at 1995 after scanning the data and observing a supposed plateau at that peak age in that year. They then proceeded to test the same data to determine if this was, in fact, the case. Brown argues Vijg's team thought they had identified a pattern and proceeded to create a theory to explain the pattern. The data matched the theory simply because it was generated from that exact data. Brown believes this is a flawedmeans of practicing science. Brown is also adamant that the research team's analysis of lifespan is rife with problems. They included the oldest individual to die in any given year, creating a tiny sample with an abundance of randomness. The data was much too limited.

McGill University biologist Siegfried Hekimi re-analyzed the data in question. Hefound it was consistent with several different trajectories for lifespan including one without a plateau and one with aplateau at an advanced age. The bottom line is the data is consistent with plenty of other trends meaning that there is no limit to lifespan at this point in time. Additional rebuttals echoed these sentiments.

The Expectation of aBackpedal

The scientific community expected Vijg to take back his claim of a limit to human lifespan. However, the rebuttals provided by fellow scientists did not prove convincing to him. Vijgstands by his research team's results, arguing that the scientific community must let the data speak. He claims hisgroup tested two independent databases. Several outside experts agree with Vijg. The mere fact that Vijg's claims are criticized does not invalidate his claim, yet it does open the door to further questioning of it.

How Your Chronic Illness and Poor Sleep May Be Related to Adrenal Function

A big focus in anti-aging medical science today is understanding how the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and adrenal glands act together in concert. All three glands together are referred to as the hypothalamic-pituitary and adrenal axis or HPA axis for short. With this focus on the HPA axis, it has become more common in the treatment of chronic illness to look for deficiencies or abnormalities in the HPA axis through personalized and specialized testing. It is believed that by understanding how stress, sleep, and chronic illness affect the HPA axis, a personalized treatment plan can be developed. As a result, there have been multiple recent studies in these areas.

The Relationship Between PTSD, Cortisol, and Sleep In the study and treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), both abnormalities in the HPA axis and sleep disturbances have been identified as common symptoms and concerns. In an effort to study whether the abnormal HPA axis function and sleep disorder in people with PTSD are related, a study published in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology in 2005 evaluated twenty male patients diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

The PTSD Study In the study, the twenty men were compared to a control group of sixteen individuals. Both groups had their sleep patterns monitored overnight via a polysomnography. Levels of adrenal cortisol (one of the hormones associated with healthy adrenal function and homeostasis) were also measured, including a 24-hour urinary collection.

The authors noted that those study participants with PTSD had higher than normal cortisol levels in their urine when compared to the control group, which ultimately led to some interesting conclusions.

Conclusions About Cortisol and Sleep One of the conclusions that the study authors reached was that the presence of increased urinary cortisol is, in fact, associated with decreased delta wave sleep. In other words, having higher than normal cortisol levels affects your ability to transition into a deep sleep. The fourth stage of sleep after delta wave sleep is called REM sleep, the stage in which dreaming occurs. Those suffering from PTSD are likely never able to achieve REM sleep, a finding that will have significant impact on the understanding or the condition and the treatment and recovery.

But the study findings go beyond just the understanding and treatment of PTSD. It is this relationship between adrenal cortisol and deep sleep that may be responsible for the sleep disturbances common in other conditions characterized by increased levels of cortisol.

The Relationship Between Chronic Illness, Cortisol, and Sleep Much like the study of PTSD, cortisol levels, and sleep disturbances, there has been several other notable studies about the relationship between cortisol secretion and sleep in other chronic illnesses. One of the most interesting was a meta-analysis published in the journal Psychoneuroendocrinology in 2013. The meta-analysis was a review of nineteen related articles that the study authors analyzed looking for important similarities and differences in observations and conclusions. The Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Meta-Analysis The investigators looked at nineteen other articles that evaluated cortisol levels in subjects with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). They all had one similarity: an increase in overnight cortisol production. If chronic fatigue syndrome is associated with increased urinary cortisol excretion, then what is the expected sleep pattern of someone with CFS? Based on findings like those from the PTSD study above, one would expect their sleep quality to suffer, particularly with regards to deep sleep and REM sleep. Another study of people with CFS shed light on the sleep experience.

The Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Sleep Study The study published in Sleep Medicine Reviews journal in 2014 attempted to study the presumed sleep impairment in people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. What is interesting in this studys findings is that there was no significant differences in the sleep patterns on polysomnography between those with CFS and those in the control. Despite having no significant difference in sleep patterns, all study participants with CFS reported not experiencing a restorative sleep. The subjective and experiential difference may be due to the cortisol.

What This Means for People with Chronic Illness As a doctor of osteopathy and board-certified internist, I believe that stress and chronic illnesses like CFA and fibromyalgia are associated with not only adrenal fatigue but also alterations in the HPA axis. How do you test for this? This requires specialized testing by a trained practitioner in anti-aging medicine. Their focus of treatment is multifaceted and involves an evaluation of nutrition, your inflammatory status and risk, your sleep patterns, and your hormonal profile. I truly believe that this approach is the future of not only the treatment of chronic illness but medicine in general.

The science behind fireworks: ‘Chemistry in action’ – AccuWeather.com

Every Independence Day, millions of Americans gather to experience the loud cracks, booms and incandescent bursts of celebratory fireworks displays.

The mechanics of our patriotic pyrotechnics come entirely from chemistry, the driving force behind the motion, heat, light, smoke and sound of these brilliant, captivating displays.

"Everything you see in a fireworks display is chemistry in action," Washington College adjunct chemistry professor John Conkling explained in an educational video.

While the chemistry of fireworks has evolved over time, the earliest use of chemical compounds to produce a fiery reaction dates back thousands of years.

Early pyrotechnics are thought to have originated in China and India, according to Chemistry of Pyrotechnics: Basic Principles and Theory, a book penned by Conkling.

One of the main ingredients in early pyrotechnics was saltpeter, or potassium-nitrate, which was mixed with sulfur and other organic fuels for incendiary military applications. By mixing potassium-nitrate with sulfur and charcoal, black powder was created.

Black powder, or gunpowder, is considered the first modern high-energy composition, according to Conkling's book. The sulfur and charcoal act as the fuel, while the potassium-nitrate acts as an oxidizer, which is crucial for the creation of fireworks.

An oxidizing agent, a fuel, metal compounds for color and a binder are needed to create a proper firework, according to the American Chemical Society.

Metal oxides and metal salts are used to produce the vivid colors of modern firework displays. The binder holds the oxidizing agent, fuel and colorants together. All of these chemicals are packed into a cardboard aerial shell which houses a black powder mixture at the bottom.

In order to propel the shell high into the air, a lifting charge of black powder is used with a tube, or mortar.

After the lifting charge sends the shell skyward, a secondary timing fuse ignites the black powder mixture at the bottom, leading to an intense chemical reaction in the form of gas and heat.

This violent, explosive expansion releases the ignited effects pellets, or stars, inside to produce the fiery display overhead.

The secondary fuse is used to time the explosion of the shell and keep onlookers safe from harm by ensuring it releases at a safe height.

"The loud boom that accompanies fireworks is actually a sonic boom produced by the expansion of the gases at a rate faster than the speed of sound," according to the American Chemical Society.

When it comes to the unique shape and behavior of a firework, it is all dependent on the calculated arrangement of effect pellets. Different arrangements can be used to create shapes such as willows or spinners.

Perhaps the most exciting part of a firework display comes from their wide range of colors, which are all dependent on what types of metals are used, according to Conkling.

"When fireworks explode in the sky, the gunpowder reactions create a lot of heat, causing the metallic substances present in the stars to absorb energy from the heat and emit light," according to the American Chemical Society.

"These metallic substances are actually metal salts, which produce luminescent light of different colors when they are dispersed in the air. This light is produced by electrons inside the metal atoms."

Red fireworks are the result of strontium salts or lithium salts such as lithium carbonate or strontium carbonate. Calcium chloride and sodium are used to produce orange and yellow light. For the vivid green displays, barium compounds are used.

The hardest color to produce pyrotechnically is blue, according to Conkling, which relies on copper compounds such as copper chloride. Purple can be achieved by mixing strontium compounds for the red light and copper compounds for the blue.

"Color mixing is advancing. We can usually make a pretty deep red, a nice green, a reasonable blue. Now, if you start to combine the red and the blue, you get violet, lilac, purple," Conkling said in an interview with PBS NOVA.

Polymer ‘worm’ is walking on sunshine – Chemistry World (subscription)

A new polymer worm that can make wave-like motions in response to light, can crawl and even carry objects. The researchers behind the material hope that it might one day be used in self-cleaning surfaces.

The new liquid crystal polymer incorporates an azobenzene-derived dye which quickly changes from a cis to trans conformation when stimulated by ultraviolet radiation, and returns to its original state when in shadow. This switching of molecular configuration when in light or dark is key to the materials ability to propel itself at speeds comparable to those of a caterpillar.

With respect to the light source, the wave can be moving away or moving towards the light source. This is achieved by positioning the molecules in the plastic film in an asymmetric way, says Dirk Broer of the Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands, who led the project.

On one surface, the rod-shaped liquid crystal molecules have planar alignment parallel to the ribbons long axis like pencils lying parallel on a table, explains Robin Selinger who led a team at Kent State University, US, that developed computer simulations to explain how the materials movement is brought about. On the other surface the rod-shaped molecules have homeotropic alignment, lying perpendicular to the surface like pencils standing up balanced on their points.

This structural arrangement means that when the film is treated with light, one side of the polymer will expand while the other contracts. This causes the material to flex in such a way that parts of the material that were illuminated become shadowed and vice-versa, leading to the wave-like movements.

By attaching a 2cm strip to a rectangular frame and shining UV light at it from a fixed source, the research team created a light-driven robot that crawls forwards in a manner somewhat resembling a break-dancer doing the worm. Other demonstrations showed strips of the polymer moving a glass rod up an incline and shaking off sand grains.

This is really a nice piece of work to bridge the fundamental findings of photoactuation and photodeformation of these materials with their practical applications, says Tomiki Ikeda, who works on photomobile polymers at Chuo University, Japan.

This is echoed by Timothy White, an expert in photonic materials who works at the US Air Force Research Laboratory in Ohio, US, who describes the research as a compelling demonstration of the interplay of photochemistry and mechanics. He is particularly impressed with the use of designer photochromic units to enable the captivating mechanics of the material.

Looking to the future, Broer hopes that at some point the polymers wave-like motions may find function in self-cleaning surfaces. For instance, when sand or debris is applied on the plastic foil it can be transported or thrown off the film by the directional transport, he says. An application field where we are active in our group is self-cleaning strategies for solar cells in remote area. One can think of solar plants in the desert where you have much sunshine, hardly any rain and no people available to clean the surface of the cell after a sandstorm. However, he also notes that as these materials currently absorb UV light, new dye molecules may need to be developed that can operate using other parts of the solar spectrum.

So far we have a proof of concept showing how liquid crystal polymer films can generate continuous mechanical wave motion when illuminated with high intensity UV light. Next steps might include further materials development to optimise material properties: reduce how much light is needed, increase how much mechanical work can be performed and increase the speed of material response, adds Selinger. In addition we might focus on using our simulation and modelling tools to optimise device design to engineer more advanced prototype devices.

Kit Cummins awarded the American Chemical Society Pauling Medal – MIT News

Department of Chemistry Professor Christopher (Kit) Cumminshas been honored with the 2017 Linus Pauling Medal, in recognitionof hisunparalleled synthetic and mechanistic studies of early-transition metal complexes, including reaction discovery and exploratory methods of development to improve nitrogen and phosphorous utilization. Cummins, the Henry Dreyfus Professor of Chemistry, will be presented with the Pauling Medal at an award symposium this fall at Portland State University in Oregon.

"I was introduced to Pauling's hugely influential book 'The Nature of the Chemical Bond' as an undergraduate student at Cornell,where I had the incredible honor to meet Linus when he visited to reprise his Baker lectures from a half century earlier, out of which the book had grown," Cummins says. "It is like a dream come true for me to be selected to receive an award named for the human being who gave us so many of chemistry's central concepts. I will dedicate my award lecture to my fantastic students, past and present, for having embarked with me on a rich and still unfolding voyage of scientific discovery."

The Pauling Medal is sponsored jointly by the Portland, Puget Sound, and Oregon sections of the American Chemical Society. It is presented annually in recognition of outstanding achievement in chemistry in the spirit of, and in honor of, Linus Pauling, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1954 and the Nobel Prize for peace in 1962. Cummins joins several current members of the Department of Chemistry in being named a Linus Pauling Medal awardee, includingTim Swager(2016),Stephen Buchwald(2014), andStephen Lippard(2009), as well as former department members Alexander Rich (1995) and John Waugh (1984).

Researchers in the Cummins Group are developing new methods of inorganic synthesis to address a variety of interesting questions. The activation of small molecules by transition-metal systems is a featured area, with ongoing work in the areas of synthetic nitrogenfixation, carbon dioxidereduction, and while phosphorusutilization. They are developing thermally activated molecular precursors to reactive small molecules or transient intermediates such as diphosphorusand phosphaethyne, molecules of astrophysical importance. Studies on supramolecular anion receptor host-guest chemistry inform their work on dioxygenelectron transfer processes, which are germane to solar energy storage and approaches to improved metal-air battery technology. In addition, Cummins Group researchers work to develop new starting materials in phosphate chemistry, including acid forms that provide a starting point for synthesizing new phosphate-based materials with applications in next-generation battery technologies and catalysis. Experimental studies are supplemented with quantum chemical investigations for analysis of chemical bonding, reaction mechanisms, and property predictions.

Microbial Fermentation

For the past four years, the workshop focused primarily on microbial fermentation, which is the transformation of feedstocks, such as plant sugars, into useful products, like fuels, chemicals, beer or antibiotics, by bacteria, yeast, fungi or algae.

The Microbial Fermentation Workshop will be held Aug. 16 to 18. Participants will be introduced to the fundamental knowledge and practical skills needed to design, develop, optimize, control, scale-up, analyze and troubleshoot fermentation processes.

As one of just a handful of programs in the world that provide in-depth, practically oriented coursework in microbial fermentation, it is expected to draw participants from Connecticut to Croatia.

While workshop participants should have some basic knowledge and experience in fermentation, everyone from scientists to biotech business executives to graduate students could benefit from the microbial fermentation workshop.

This years program features some of the brightest minds in the field, including:

Jeff Lievense, senior advisor of Bioengineering & Technology, Genomatica;

Rachel Dutton, assistant professor of Molecular Biology, UC San Diego;

Michael Japs, senior director of Process Technology, Genomatica;

Jon Hansen, principal of New Leaf Biotech;

Anatomy of a traffic jam: How storm drain repairs locked up Annapolis – CapitalGazette.com

Rob Savidge just didn't think it would be much of a problem.

A project manager for the Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works, he gave the go-ahead to make repairs on storm drain inlets on Forest Drive at Bay Ridge Avenue in Annapolis starting at 8 a.m. April 4.

The result came as a surprise for Savidge, but perhaps even more for thousands of motorists stuck in gridlock memorable even in a part of the city known for traffic jams. On a bright sunny morning they found themselves stuck for more than an hour at the confluence of Hillsmere Drive, Bay Ridge Road, Bay Ridge Avenue and Forest Drive because someone didn't realize the impact of shutting down lanes in rush hour.

"That's the most frustrating part of all of this," said Savidge, now a candidate for City Council in the ward next to the intersection. "At the time, I was following the procedures that I was aware of.

"Just, unfortunately, a lot of things came together."

Documents released to The Capital under a series of Maryland Public Information Act requests show city and county officials searched for hours on the morning of April 4 to explain what seemed like an inexplicable traffic jam.

Now, Department of Public Works spokesman Matt Diehl said, they've come up with a solution to prevent a reoccurrence. Every construction project affecting county roads and supervised by the department must now be reviewed by the Traffic Engineering Division before work begins.

It's a follow-up to a promise made by county Public Works Director Christopher Phipps, who wrote shortly after the traffic jam that the backup "was the result of a failure to coordinate ...."

"Impacting traffic on a main road during the morning or afternoon commute for anything other than an emergency should not happen," he wrote in a letter to The Capital. "However, you have my commitment that steps are now in place to appropriately coordinate any such work along this corridor and avoid situations like this in the future."

Emails obtained by The Capital show that no one seemed to know exactly what was going on that morning.

City spokeswoman Rhonda Wardlaw emailed Mayor Mike Pantelides explaining that neither Diehl nor "anyone at the higher levels" at Public Works was told about the project before work began.

That left city officials struggling to explain what was happening as they heard from angry constituents unable to get to work on time. Those complaints went to many officials, including County Executive Steve Schuh.

During an interview on the morning of April 4, Wardlaw said city officials learned of the backup through social media.

In an email to Pantelides, Wardlaw later wrote that there was confusion between Savidge and the Annapolis Police Department as it was trying to deal with traffic backing up for more than 2 miles on the Annapolis Neck Peninsula.

Wardlaw wrote that Savidge was identified as the project manager and he told police the work "was an expedited project that needed to be done in the next few days," which police officials interpreted as an "emergency" project. The department posted that information on its social media pages, which prompted Diehl to issue a correction.

A few hours after the work was called off and the traffic jam cleared, Pantelides was still pressing his staff to find out who was in charge of the ill-timed project.

"Who was the project manager responsible for the horrible traffic this morning? Was it an emergency or just routine maintenance poorly scheduled?" Pantelides wrote in a 12:30 p.m. email to his staff. "The county executive assured me it will not happen again."

Pantelides is familiar with Savidge, a former city planner who has been critical of city laws designed to protect forested land and how they are administered.

Phipps wrote to Pantelides that he planned to "(r)eiterate to staff the criticality of understanding the impact of any traffic disruption along major roads during rush hours."

Savidge said he faced no disciplinary action because of the traffic jam.

And Wardlaw said the city is confident the county has properly addressed the issue.

"We're just grateful that there was a problem and they have fixed it and justified it," she said. "I'm not concerned about 'Will this situation happen again?' I don't know if it will."

"It was one person making a decision, not the county making the decision."

DeSean Jackson discusses his growing chemistry with Jameis Winston – Bucs Wire

Bucs Nation has quite a few reasons why they should be excited for the 2017 NFL season. After a successful free agency and draft, the Bucs are slated to have one of the most talented receiving corps in the league this season thanks to the acquisition of DeSean Jackson, Chris Godwin and O.J. Howard.

Even better news is Winstons chemistry with his receivers is flourishing just in time for the season to kick off, at least his chemistry with Jackson that is.

During Tampa Bays mini camp at One Buc Place, Jackson took a few moments to discuss his relationship with his signal caller. Jackson says hes building a great connection with Winston right now and is excited to showcase that when the Buccaneers take the field in a few short months.

He sees what I am good at doing, Jackson said about building chemistry with Jameis. He doesnt try to change it. He tries to adjust his game to the strength of his teammates.

Jackson added that Winston has a great way of understanding his receivers and what theyre capable of. The same pass he throw to Mike Evans is different from the one he throws to Cameron Brate. Jackson also believes that hes doing a great job of reading his receivers and has improved his accuracy which will pay dividends when the Bucs suit up in pewter and red and take the field this fall.

Karnataka IT and Biotechnology Dept Grants Rs 3.18 cr to 12 Start-ups – News18

Bengaluru: The Karnataka IT and Biotechnology department on Wednesday granted Rs 3.18 crore to fund 12 start-ups in the areas of agriculture, biotechnology, security, communications and robotics.

"The dozen start-ups have been selected for funding to innovate products and solutions as they have been part of the Idea2PoC (Proof of Concept) scheme of the IT department's Start-up Cell," said an official statement in Bengaluru.

The Idea2PoC is a part of the country's first multi-sector start-up policy, unveiled by the state government to encourage entrepreneurs with funding to commercialise their innovation.

The start-ups with seed funding are Dr. Live Software (Rs 10 lakh), EasyKrishi (Rs 15 lakh), Lightmetrics (Rs 30 lakh), PiOctave Solutions (Rs 30 lakh), Geeksynergey Technologies (Rs 30 lakh), ispAgro Robotics (Rs 20 lakh), Astrome (Rs 30 lakh), Esyasoft (Rs 20 lakh), Geotraq Safety (Rs 45 lakh), NammaNimma Cycle Foundation (Rs 10 lakh), Sirena Technologies (Rs 48 lakh) and Selfdot Technologies (Rs 30 lakh).

"Though Bengaluru is the country's IT hub, we are seeing its start-up culture spreading to other areas, including agriculture, biotechnology, security, communications, robotics and gaming rapidly. Our aim is to mentor and help them to become self-sufficient," said IT & BT Principal Secretary Gaurav Gupta on the occasion.

Kartnataka Biotechnology and Information Techology Services (KBITS) Managing Director Salma K. Fahim said the state government was also targetting start-ups in emerging technologies such as animation, artificial intelligence, big data and virtual reality.

"These technologies can solve our long-standing problems, create hundreds of jobs and help in the 'Make in India' programme of the central and state governments," added Fahim.
