Star Trek: Lower Decks Defies Current Trek with Laughs and Fun – 25YearsLaterSite.com

For many fans, there are two types of Star Trek: Trek Prime, which consists of everything from The Original Series to Enterprise, and Nu-Trek, which consists of the Kelvin timeline (or the J.J. Abrams JJ-verse movies) and any new series thats come out since Trek Primes demise (mainly Star Trek Discovery and Star Trek: Picard). I dont know all the ins-and-outs on a personal level of how the fandom treats each other but I can confirm there is a division.

And I find myself aligning with the Trek Prime universe when I am forced to choose sides. I generally despise the JJ-verse Trek films as they are the anti-thesis of what Trek is all about, promoting action and violence over science, discovery, and ethics. I admit to not having watched Discovery but part of my aversion to watching it is how everything looks gritty and real. Plus numerous clips of gigantic space battles from that show have cropped up, which has turned me off to the idea of the show, especially since it is associating itself with the name Star Trek. I gave up on Picard as it felt like Patrick Stewart and the showrunners were creating a different universe altogether, one in which Picard himself is an imposter and, once again, everything is gritty, realistic, and dark. Nu-Trek just isnt for me, but I dont begrudge those who want to embrace it or, better yet, become fans of Trek overall as a result of being exposed to it.

So it comes as a confusing surprise during this Nu-Trek era, that Star Trek, the brand, is releasing a nostalgia-heavy comedy seriesan animated one to bootthat plays with the conventions of Trek Prime by replicating its look and feel, right down to the font of the credits, and bundling it in promos with the new season of Discovery. This might not be your dads Star Trek but it certainly isnt anyone elses at the moment either: this is a new animal. It is Star Trek: Lower Decks.

Set in 2380, one year after Star Trek: Nemesis, Lower Decks is purposefully using vibes that represent The Next Generation, focusing on an Enterprise-like ship, similar yet different Starfleet uniforms, and comparable set design. Everything from the credits on the screen to the sound effects used is maximized to appeal to that fanbases nostalgia need. And the fact that it is animated only amplifies the nostalgia factor, as going back to recreate this atmosphere in a live-action environment would seem impossible at worst and pandering at best. Animation gives it the license to pay homage to what came before all while irreverently sending it up.

The focus is not on the perfect bridge crew as TOS or TNGwould be, but instead on a group of lowly ensigns who, fittingly, live and work on the lower decks of the Starship Cerritos. The ersatz leader of this show is Ensign Boimler (Jack Quaid), a by-the-book command officer who wants to be just like the Captain of his ship and every other legendary Captain in Starfleets history. His best friend is the opposite of that. Ensign Mariner (Tawny Newsome) is a rule-breaking partier who thinks the legends of Starfleet are full of themselves and one big joke. She is constantly a thorn in Boimlers side though the two are, of course, the best of friends in typical opposites-attract fashion.

One of their lower deck compatriots is the dorky, and recently-turned-Cyborg, Ensign Rutherford (Eugene Cordero) who, in the first episode, scores a date with someone way outside of his league. Luckily, his new cyborg implants can take away (or heighten) his fears or, when logic demands it, institute Vulcan subroutines. The three become, for better or worse, mentors for new assignee Ensign Tendi (Noel Wells), a green-skinned (Orion?) medical rookie who is so excited to join the Starfleet tradition that she is in wonder of everything to the annoyance of most.

Lower Decks packs a lot of episode into its series premiere, introducing us to our four main characters, showing off the periphery characters who in other series would be the leads, and managing roughly four plots at once.

The first plot involves the ships Captain asking Boimler to spy on Mariner and report any breakage of rules, no matter how severe or minor. The second involves Boimler and Mariner, now at odds with each other, battling a wicked spider on a planets surface. The third involves one of the senior officers receiving a bug bite during a second contact mission and spreading a rage disease all over the ship in the midst of the fourth plot, Ensign Rutherfords date. All in 26 minutes!

Created by Mike McMahan, the executive producer and co-writer on Rick and Morty, one can tell this is a love note to Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation specifically. There are an endless amount of in-jokes and easter eggs packed in the opening episode and the humor is more nerd-centric and witty than outlandish or scatological. The pacing is well done and while not every joke in the premiere lands as smoothly as others, this is a funny show and one I was wishing had released all the episodes at once so I could devour the entire season.

Is there any other way to recommend a comedy show? It was funny and I wanted more. That is a sign of success to me. So while I may still have Discovery on the backburner and I might never finish Picard, Lower Decks at least has the decency to make me smile at Star Trek again. Who would have thought in this era of Trek we live in, we could do that?

The Top 10 Superman Suits In Film & TV – Heroic Hollywood

Superman is probably the most famous superhero in history thanks to his iconic costume and instantly recognizable symbol on his chest. But its fair to say that hes jumped in and out of a treasure trove of costumes. From practical costumes, gritty reimaginings and comic-accurate designs, fans have been truly spoiled over the years. Since its not completely clear when well next see Kal-El on the big screen in the DC Extended Universe, our latest video takes a look at the best Superman suits in film and television.

Dean Cains suit in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman proved the Kryptonian could work on television as well as theatrically. The bold blue suit with the equally bright symbol stood out excellently on-screen and captured the essence of the hero pretty well. While it wasnt a radical redesign or reshaped the Superman mythos, the show was a great way of modernising the character at the time.

And now for something completely different! The recent animated movie, Superman: Red Son, explored the consequences of what would happen if Kal-El landed in the USSR, instead of Kansas. So instead of the iconic S design, were given a very militaristic costume with a high collar with the sickle and hammer emblem on his chest. The film was adapted from the Mark Millar Elseworlds story of the same name, and is definitely worth a watch. Its interesting how a slight change to Supermans costume gives off a completely different atmosphere. Hes intimidating and commanding in Red Son, although he still strives for justice.

Supermans early years were explored in Smallville and gave us a few variations of his costume. Although we did briefly see Tom Welling with the classic design under his shirt in the final episode, hed been wearing the S for quite some time. From his early days of a blue shirt and red coat, to the leather jacket designed with the symbol on the front. The show managed to find inventive ways of getting around the traditional cape and tights. Our personal favorite is the trenchcoat and black shirt ensemble striking, but different. Its a shame we didnt get to see Tom Welling in the full outfit, but that final rooftop scene was still satisfying.

DC managed to catch fans off guard this year with Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. It was gritty, violent and a perfect way of ending this chapter of their animated universe. But it also had some excellent new designs for Superman. Theres the classic design he wears to begin with which feels slightly inspired by the New 52 and later Rebirth eras of comics, especially with his red belt. But its after Darkseid wins that his looks become really impressive. The first completely depowers him after the Lord of Apokolips tattoos a Kryptonite S into the heros chest. Its a genuinely inspired way of taking Supermans powers from him. But its his second design that impressed us. In order to get the strength back to fight Darkseid, Superman gets possessed by the demon lord, Trigon. It gives the hero a dark redesign, with a fiery cape and flaming chest symbol, mixed with the villains horns and demonic face. Its an excellent way of levelling the playing field against Darkseid.

The third TV Superman to make our list is Tyler Hoechlin. First seen on The CWs Supergirl, the latest version of the hero donned a modern take on the classic costume. The practical look straps the cape firmly to his shoulders with a chunky red and gold belt complimenting the suit. His S symbol is a little darker than usual but it pairs nicely against Supergirls costume. While many fans were skeptical about Superman in the Arrowverse, Tyler Hoechlins hero sits neatly next to all the other caped crusaders. Hopefully his solo series, Superman and Lois, will explore the character a bit more in-depth.

Okay, we might be cheating with this one a little. When DC decided to adapt the Death of Superman into two films, they gave us a number of iconic Superman designs. After his fateful battle with Doomsday, a number of other Supermen take up Kal-Els mantle. Cyborg Superman offers a monstrous version of the hero whos being controlled by Darkseid himself. Henry Steel dons a Superman-inspired exo-skeleton while Lex Luthor reveals his Superman clone, Superboy. Superboys design harks back to his classic 90s design with a leather jacket over his slick black and blue costume. Finally, theres Eradicator whos actually a hologram designed by a computer at the Fortress of Solitude. His cool visor and his streamlined costume definitely looked cool. Ultimately hes only around to protect the real Superman while he secretly rejuvenates. And once he does Oh boy. Fans got to see him in the stunning black suit, complete with that iconic mullet. DC really gave Superman fans a treat with these two movies.

Of course, we cant have a Superman list without including Henry Cavill himself. When the star first debuted as the hero in Man of Steel back in 2013, fans were given a truly modern redesign to suit this darker take on the character. So long, red trunks! Hello, metallic blue costume and bright red cape. The suit has incredible detailing in it, which matches the regal nature of the Kryptonian culture that Zack Snyder briefly explored. The red boots had a similar design, and they look perfect. Itll be great to finally see the Black Suit in action during the directors Justice League cut when it finally arrives on HBO Max next year. Who else is excited?

When it comes to comic accuracy theres another suit that made everyones jaw drop. Brandon Rouths Kingdom Come outfit that we saw during Crisis On Infinite Earths. Aside from the incredible fact that we got to see Routh return to the role, they perfectly adapted the costume from the Mark Waid and Alex Ross series. Its a darker Superman whos lost hope, but is no less heroic. The black and red symbol is genuinely stunning, theres no wonder many fans want to see the star get his own limited series as that version of the hero! If you havent watched the Arrowverse crossover, trust us, its absolutely worth it for golden moments like the Kingdom Come suit.

Sure, the Kingdom Come suit was incredible, but its Brandon Rouths cinematic appearance as Superman that truly earns his costume the penultimate spot on the list. It feels like its been taken straight out of the comics. The dark red cape, trunks and boots look incredible against the light blue suit. Then theres the symbol, it feels like a great modern follow up to Christopher Reeves suit. Its a shame Routh never got to continue the role in a sequel, but as early 2000s superhero movies go, its genuinely one of the better ones. Or at least, we think so anyway.

Come on, did you really expect anyone else to grab the top spot here? It was always going to be Christopher Reeves costume. It set the bar for what a superhero costume could look like on the big screen. Sure, it looks a little silly now, but its one we all fondly remember. Superman was already iconic. But as Reeve soars through the air in the truly classic design its easy to forget that hes an actor and hasnt just stepped out of the page. Dated effects aside, Christopher Reeve is Superman.

But while we wait for the Kryptonians cinematic return, tell us in the comments which of his costumes is your favorite! Make sure you keep an eye on Heroic Hollywood for all the latest entertainment news and be sure tosubscribe to our YouTube channelfor more content in the future!

Ryan Reynolds eviscerates ‘Green Lantern’ and teases the Snyder Cut in the viral Reynolds Cut of his superhero bomb – Yahoo Sports

Green Lantern may have been treated like a joke by critics and audiences when it hit theaters in 2011, but Ryan Reynolds has made it a point to have the last laugh. Rather than hide from the movies failure, the star has cheekily embraced its status as a superhero also-ran, regularly poking fun at DCs Emerald Knight on social media and in his hit Marvel franchise, Deadpool. With Zack Snyder currently hard at work on the #SnyderCut version of Justice League for HBO Max, Reynolds took to Twitter to premiere the Reynolds Cut of Green Lantern.

Where the Snyder Cut will expand the two-hour theatrical version of Justice League which was taken over by Joss Whedon after Snyder left the film into a three-and-a-half-hour behemoth, the Reynolds Cut reduces Green Lanterns 123-minute runtime to a mere 27 seconds. Opening with a post-credits gag from Deadpool 2, where the time-traveling Merc with a Mouth shoots Reynolds before he can even suit up as Green Lantern, Reynoldss preferred version of the film speeds through his alter egos tragic origin story and his initiation into the galactic Green Lantern Corps. In a major plot twist, the Reynolds Cuts big climax reveals that Tom Cruise has been playing GL all along. That may prove prescient: its been a longtime rumor that Warner Bros. would like to enlist the Mission: Impossible star to headline a Green Lantern reboot.

Speaking of Snyder, the Reynolds Cut ties Green Lantern into Justice League continuity. The film ends with a tableau shot of the core JL team Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, The Flash and Cyborg regarding their newest applicant. Its worth noting that the Green Lantern Corps did play a role in the theatrical version of Justice League, and Snyder supposedly had additional plans for the character... plans that may or may not involve Reynolds.

If the Reynolds Cut really is a stealth preview for the Snyder Cut as well as being a funny gag Twitter is on board.

In brightest day, in blackest night, no chance to make fun of Green Lantern shall escape Ryan Reynoldss sight.

You’ve beaten Half-Life: Alyx, now what? More great VR games to try – GameCrate

If youre one of the million or so people that bought a VR headset to experience Valves long-awaited return to the Half-Life franchise then youre probably wondering, what do I play next?

Good question. Theres a good mix of high profile and indie games worth your time if you enjoyed Alyx and Ill be making some recommendations on where to go next once youre ready to venture beyond City-17.

For more VR content, check out Newegg's VR Central.

This is closer to the Portal side of the Valve spectrum with its sharp humor, exploration, and puzzle-solving sprinkled with a dash of combat. You find yourself sucked into a parallel universe and a sprawling underground research lab. You find the corridors and offices of the Planck Interdimensional Quantum Reactor are overrun with homicidal security robots and all manner of hostile aliens.

Youll have to make your way through the facility ala Half-Life and reach the surface if you ever want to get back home. Everything from the UI to the gameplay is tight and youll want to scour over every level so you dont miss a gag or hidden bit of quantum juice (used for upgrades).

Zach Tsiakalis-Brown, a Valve alum and just 20-years-old, is the head of Zulubo Studios and shows incredible promise already in his body of work. He even produced the very excellent soundtrack for the game. Brown announced last summer that Vertigo 2 is in the works and slated for 2020. You can play a demo of the sequel here.

This needs almost no introduction as youve likely heard of the highly acclaimed sci-fi action shooter. If not, heres the run-down. You step into the shoes of a security administrator for the shadowy Monogon corporation. Youll dive into their virtual operating system to uncover a dark secret hidden within. There are also lots of guns in there, for some reason.

While its a bit light on story the gunplay is bar-none one of the most impressive demonstrations of how far VR has come. Once the muscle memory kicks in youll be dual-wielding Glocks and blasting through enemies like a virtual John Wick. References to Half-Life are made throughout, complete with crowbars and robotic headcrabs.

Be sure to check out the studios other very impressive offerings like the nostalgic and surreal Duck Season and the flat out fun of Hover Junkers.

While not a sci-fi game this is one of the current must-have titles if youre a headset owner. There are plenty of zombie games in VR but no other manages to blend survival, crafting, fighting, and exploration as well as Saints and Sinners.

You play as the tourist in a flooded, zombie-infested New Orleans. Two factions are locked in a bloody conflict over the reserve, a hidden cache of weapons and supplies. You start with next to nothing and as you complete quests and explore the city, youll gradually work your way up the food chain to become the ultimate survivor.

No other game quite nails the feeling of jamming a kitchen knife through a walkers rotting face. With a decent length campaign and a fantastic arcade mode, you owe it to yourself to have this in your library.

Red Matter follows the tried-and-true explore the abandoned lab trope of gaming to the hilt. While feeling familiar it does an amazing job of guiding players through exploration and puzzles. As you dive into the top-secret research facility you descend deeper and deeper into a reality-bending conspiracy.

The dystopian retro-futuristic cold war setting will delight any fans of Papers, Please, or Metro: 2033. The mosaics and propaganda posters celebrating the fictional Volgravia feel authentic and dont approach parody. The developers clearly took the time to do their homework and make their world feel real.

While the controls feel a bit tanky its well worth your time and money.

Similar to Red Matter, Into the Radius plays into the dystopian themes of post-Soviet Europe. Directly inspired by the legendary sci-fi movie Stalker, as well as the games spun off from the film, Into the Radius takes players to a familiar world but one still full of surprises.

You wake up with no memory and a disembodied voice guiding you deeper into the mysterious Pechorsk radius. An asteroid strike has warped the fabric of reality around the zone, leaving behind strange anomalies and other-worldly creatures.

Youll scavenge for supplies and artifacts to upgrade your equipment as you explore fascinating and unnerving landscapes. While the core gameplay loop is relatively simple there are hours of exploration and combat to be had. Youll also have to contend with hardcore survival elements like using maps to navigate and keeping yourself fed and rested. A great game for any survival sim fans.

A masterpiece of minimal storytelling, Downward Spiral could have been released today yet came out nearly two years ago. It hardly shows its age as visuals are crisp, controls are intuitive, and combat and exploration are engaging.

You wake up on a space station with no memories except strange visions of alien ruins on a strange planet. You seem to be the only one alive as a mysterious accident has wiped out the crew. The stations security system is malfunctioning and will shoot on sight so it isnt a matter of floating from room to room to try and figure out what happened.

The zero-gravity locomotion feels great and you wont experience motion sickness even if youre a VR newbie.

If you ever dreamt of being a badass cyborg ninja in a cyberpunk Tokyo then Sairento is a must-have. Boasting some of the best VR combat available, youll dual wield and slow-mo dodge through beautiful levels and face off against a variety of enemies.

No other game quite feels this good. As you sail through the air in slow motion, bullets flying past you, you cant help but break out into a big, stupid grin as you come down on an enemy, katana in hand, and say open wide! as you slice their head off. Absolute action bliss.

This somehow manages to be more Doom than the actual Doom VR game. Combining the deadpan humor of Rick and Morty with the action chops of some of the best shooters out there, Gunheart serves up a metric ton of fun.

Your brain has been implanted into the body of a robotic bounty hunter and youll do the dirty work of yet another shadowy corporation. In this case, its taking care of a pest problem at the edge of the galaxy. Tons of weapons, environments, and verticality, Gunheart is a fantastic sci-fi shooter. The game even has co-op so bring a couple of friends on the hunt.

While not an official VR game, the mod for the very excellent Alien: Isolation is well worth your time. Thanks to the amazing job by Creative Assembly in rendering the world of Alien, Isolation feels like a completely new game in virtual reality. And with a lengthy campaign, DLC, and challenge modes, this is the perfect use for your headset.

You play as Amanda Ripley, daughter of the film series protagonist, as she searches for her missing mother. This brings her to Sevastopol station where the flight recorder of her mothers lost ship, the Nostromo, has been recovered. Seeking answers, Amanda instead finds the deadly xenomorph stalking the halls and airshafts of the space station.

If your spine tingled at any of Alyxs creepy set pieces, then youre going to love this. Get the mod here.

Raw Data is more of an arcade-focused experience but with some of the best combat in VR. It ticks all the boxes: cyberpunk dystopia, robots, evil corporations, etc. and manages to still be engaging. Sharp writing and voiceovers make this one worth your time. Choose from a few different characters, all with different weapons and perks, and dismantle some robots and drones in style.

This is an Oculus exclusive so unless youve got a Rift or Rift-S then youre out of luck. In Lone Echo youll step into the circuits of Jack, an AI with a synthetic body, to help Captain Olivia Rhodes solve a mystery set in a mining operation above the rings of Saturn. Youll float through zero-g, use a suite of futuristic tools, and drink in the AAA visuals this game has to offer.

Its worth mentioning their spin-off of the game, Echo Arena, is free to play and its addictive VR PvP fun.

That should tide you over until even more great games make their way into your headset. For more VR content, check out Newegg's VR Central.

Star Wars: A Tech Version of the Force Exists – But It Sucks – CBR – Comic Book Resources

In Star Wars, there's just no substitute for a connection with an omnipresent power that's infused throughout all life in the universe.

WhileStar Wars may be one of the quintessential science-fiction worlds across the landscape of popular culture, one element to its universe is pure fantasy. The Force is a magical power that exists within all living things throughout the Galaxy, and the Jedi and Sith, who learned to harness it are counted among the deadliest combatants in the universe.

But that doesn't mean the science fiction ofStar Wars doesn't try to catch up to the fantasy. There have been numerous attempts in the franchise's lore where someone or something tried to technologically reproduce the Force. The problem is, they all just sucked.

RELATED:Star Wars: Marvel Confirmed [SPOILER] Told Darth Vader That Luke Was His Son

The goal of tech-based enhancements inStar Wars combatants is to imitate or counteract what the Force allows. It proved to be the specialty of a scientist named Cylo during the early days of the Empire, as the expert used cloning and cybernetic achievements not only to grant himself a semblance of immortality but to also produce attempts at creating the finest non-Force sensitive warriors in the Galaxy. The best examples of his work were the Astarte twins from Marvel's Darth Vader.

Born during the waning days of the Clone Wars, the Astarte twins were raised and trained to replace the Jedi and Sith. The male twin Morit saw himself as an evolution past relics of the past, while his sister Aoilin held more reverence toward them, seeking to learn from Darth Vader personally. Neither sibling held any special affinity with the Force, but both were enhanced cybernetically with abilities that tried to make up for their absence.

RELATED:Star Wars: Who Actually Funded The Clone Army's Creation?

The twins could command the objects around them subtly such as by commanding doors to slide shut, but neither ever demonstrated raw power anywhere near Vader's. Jet boosters in their feet allowed them to amplify their jumps and movement much as the Force would, but they also held a variety of weapons to aid them. In addition to their lightsabers, the twins had built-in flamethrowers, missiles and 360-degree rotating joints to aid them in battle.

What proves most interesting is the similarity such enhancements bear to other attempts at compensating for a lack of attunement to the Force. Mandalorian warriors and their weaponry employed by bounty hunters like Jango and Boba Fett are the oldest and perhaps best-known examples, also employing wrist-mounted flamethrowers and rocket launchers in order to contest Jedi and Sith at range.

RELATED:Star Wars Fan Makes A Compelling Case For Retitling The Saga Films

Their rotating joints are also eerily similar to a certain character from the Clone Wars era. General Grievous was one of the earlier and more dramatic examples of employing cybernetic enhancements to great effect, and Cylo improved on those same designs with Commander Karbin. Multiple rapidly spinning limbs prove a surprisingly effective method of overwhelming Force-sensitives with speed and power in order to devastate their precognitive abilities.

And yet none of these enhancements ever adequately recreated the deadliness of the Force. Time and time again, Jedi and Sith alike proved themselves superior to such technological tactics. The main reason is that the Force is just so versatile in its application in addition to offering raw power tech can't compete with. Whereas cyborgs or weapons-users are forced to specialize, typically in either close quarters or long-range combat, Jedi and Sith prove effective at any range. There's just no competing with precognition, an attunement to the universe and an arsenal of powers that only grows as the franchise continues.

What a strange phenomenonThe Matrixis, on its own, it isone of the greatest movies ever made, but then the two sequels got made, ruining so much of the lore and worldbuilding of the first entry.

The agony and controversy of the Gol di Turone: the day ten centimetres cost Roma the title – These Football Times

On 10 May 1981, Juventus entertained Roma at the Stadio Comunale in Turin. The matchup looked likely to be the deciding encounter of the 1980/81 season. With just two more games to follow, theBianconeri sat atop of the table on 40 points, with Roma just a point behind.

The home team were perennial challengers for the title. They had topped the table in 1977 and 1978, before finishing third and then second in consecutive seasons. They had a team brimming with the cream of Italian talent, supplemented by expensive imports, and were determined that this season would see them reclaim their rightful spot as the nations top club.

With the incomparable Dino Zoff between the posts and a line-up boasting the likes of Gentile, Scirea, Causio and Brady, it was a squad built for the domination of domestic football. Coach Giovanni Trapattoni had fallen for the embrace of La Vecchia Signora five seasons previously, and had secured successive Scudetti in his first two years in Turin, also adding the UEFA Cup and a Coppa Italia.

The only currency of success for Juve, though, was the Scudetto the little shields that marked out a club out as the best the country had to offer. The previous two seasons had seen them fall short; first to ACMilan, then to bitter rivalsInter. Another failure would hardly be acceptable.

At the time, Roma were under the charge of Nils Liedholm, the Swedereturning to the club for a second stint at the start of the previous season. For 1978/79, he headed up the Milan side that had finished seven points clear of Trapattonis Juve, before moving back to Roma.

His maiden term in the Eternal City between 1973 and 1976 had been less than wholly successful, but now, with a league title to illuminate his CV, he was very much the finished article as a coach. As with Trapattoni, Liedholm had enjoyed early success with his new club, although a Coppa Italia was less prestigious than a league title of course.

The trophy was retained for 1980/81 however, meaning that if Roma could add the league title in the same term, not only would it mean a second title to add to the one secured almost 40 years previously, but also complete an unprecedented double for the club. A domestic double in his second season? It was something that would have eclipsed Trapattonis achievements at the same mark.

The double was rare in calcio, a feat that only clubs from Turin had achieved up to that point, Juventus having twice reached such elevated heights and Torino on a single occasion. If Roma could emulate their success, it would gift the club a period in the spotlight of European football, when so often in the past they had been compelled to lament their time sat in the shadows of the northern giants of Milan and Turin.

Liedholms squad would hardly pale in comparison that of Juventus. Bonetti, Conti and Ancelotti were outstanding players, and as the talismanic leader of the team, they had the hero of theCurva Sud and a native of Rome, the ultimately tragic but wonderfully gifted Agostino Di Bartolomei. Pulling the strings in midfield was the maestro of Brazilian playmakers, Falco, while leading the line, Roberto Pruzzos 18 goals would make him that seasons Capocannoniere.

Read | Nils Liedholm: the Swede who conquered calcio

To play out the remaining fixtures, Juventus faced the daunting task of a visit to Napolis intimidating San Paolo. ThePartenopei would eventually finish in third place in the league, meaning the game was anything but a foregone conclusion. They would then complete their programme at home againstFiorentina, who would end the season in fifth.

Romas run-in looked less complicated. Their next assignment would at the Olimpico against already relegated Pistoiese. The unsung Arancioni from Tuscany would end the season bottom of the table on a mere 16 points, nine away from a group of clubs with 25 points. The final encounter would take Liedholms team to Campania to faceAvellino, one of those clubs in the group nine points ahead of Pistoiese.

It all meant that if Roma could win in Turin, not only would their fate be in their own hands as they sought the immortality of a domestic double, but the clubs they had yet to play were far inferior to the opposition ranged against their rivals. All they needed to do was to score without reply in Turin. To this day, many on the Curva Sud,and indeed beyond, remain convinced that this is precisely what they did. Perversely, the record books tell a different story.

The scene was set. The two outstanding teams in Serie A were to face off in a game that, to all intents and purposes, would decide which club could add that small but oh-so-important emblem to their shirts for the following season. The only other people on the pitch would be referee Paolo Bergamo of Livorno and his two linesmen, one of whom, Giuliano Sancini, would play a decisive role in deciding the outcome of the game and, ultimately, the destination of the title.

It would come as little surprise to anyone cognoscente with the pressures of a major football match when so much is at stake, let alone one in the volatile atmosphere of calcio, that the game was tense, nervous and at times hectic. It sounds more than a little trite to say there was no quarter asked or given, but it was very much the case. Bergamo issued seven yellow cards eight if you count the one that was hastily followed by a red, waved at Juves Giuseppe Furino 17 minutes into the second period.

For the home fans it was a contentious decision, but it was wasnt the event that led to a mark of seven out of ten for the Livorno official in the following mornings newspapers. The key incident of the game of the season came with just ten minutes remaining.

The bruising encounter was now leaning strongly towards favouring Juventus. A win would, of course, be even more advantageous, but denying a victory to their visitors and sharing the points would be adequate for a team convinced they could win both of their final two games and lockout the title. Consequently,Roma needed to score.

Driving forward from midfield to try and instigate another attack as time drifted away, Bruno Conti clipped one of his pin-point left-footed crosses towards Pruzzos head in the penalty area. Outnumbered by two defenders, and hampered in his jump to reach the ball by the penalty spot, this time the striker eschewed the opportunity to head for goal, realising that from the distance, the chances of beating Zoff would be slim. Instead, he nodded the ball across goal, having spotted a teammate advancing into space.

Maurizio Turone had joined Roma from Liedholms old club in 1979. A defender by trade, he played the sweeper role for much of career, more akin to the locking of the backline in catenaccio than the forward sweeping free player of Franz Beckenbauer or BarryHulshoff.

After a relatively free-scoring spree in his early career with Genoa, when he notched nine goals in a century of league appearances, his prowess would be pushed very much to the backburner by the requirements of his defensive duties. After leaving Genoa, in almost 250 league appearances with Milan, Catanzaro, Roma and Bologna, he would notch just four goals in 11 seasons.

When the ball arced across the Juventus penalty area, however, astutely directed by Pruzzos header, it was Turone arriving with almost perfect timing to intersect its flight on the six-yard line and power a header past a helpless Zoff and inside the far post.

The referee pointed towards the centre circle and, despite being more than a little recalcitrant in the goalscoring stakes, Turone knew how to celebrate one of his rare strikes. As the Stadio Comunale fell silent, the defender turned arms aloft running towards the sideline. Roma had their goal: now all they needed to do was to keep the ten men of the home team at bay for the next dozen minutes or so and the gates of paradise would swing open for them.

As the reality of what he had apparently done sank in for Turone, the coquettish nature of the fates was revealed to him in all their spiteful malevolence. Standing directly in front of the Roma hero of the moment was Giuliano Sancini, indicating that the goal should not stand and the hero should return to zero.

Allegedly he was in an offside position when Pruzzo headed the ball. The flag above the linesmans head wiped out the goal, the timing of the run had only been almost perfect and the brief moment of exaltation felt by all Roma players, officials and fans fell away.

Turones arms fell to his sides as he stood transfixed for a moment. Bergamo saw his colleagues signal and ruled out the goal. The referee would later tell how difficult the game had been to officiate in. This was not because of the goal ruled out by Turone, however it was the mere ferocity of proceedings. He remarked that from the moment Furino piled into a heavy tackle on Falco, the tone of the game had been set.

Turning to the key moment, he revealed that initially he considered the goal to be perfectly legitimate. With a player running from a deep position to meet a pass, its always difficult to discern where, at the precise moment of contact, the player is in relation to defenders. Bergamos initial reaction was that the goal appeared legitimate, and that is why, at first, he signalled for it to stand.

Then, however, he noticed the flag being held aloft. Concluding entirely logically that his linesman was in a far better position to judge the merits or not of the goal, he accepted his assistants advice and ruled it out, later explaining, I couldnt do anything else.

Its difficult to dispute the logic at the time, but afterwards, when reviewing footage of the game, Bergamo thought the issue was less clear, and that his initial reaction may well have been valid. He still stood by his colleagues decision, however:Yes and doubts came to me, but on the offside the linesman is the only one able to judge at best because he is in line with the ball.Sancini was good. Right or wrong, good or fallible, the linesman would pay a heavy toll for the decision. Im sorry he suffered because of this story.Insults, threats, Bergamo explained sadly.

At the time, Sancini owned a gift shop in Bologna, described as the citys oldest, dating back to 1694. To many adherents of the Giallorossi faith, a different kind of gift was proffered by Sancini at the Comunale on 10 May 1981, with Juventus the recipients.

If to some that seems more than a little harsh on what was surely the most hairline of decisions, its an attitude of mind built on paranoia fed by years of perceived injustices. Memories flood of instances when Italys northern powerhouse clubs were favoured at the expense of their southern brethren. In such cases, logic often finds difficulty in expelling emotional adherence, even when its valid and sometimes it may not be.

In any instance, Sancini feels that reality vindicates him: I saw and reviewed that action on TV and I have no doubt: certain offside. Is there any room for debate? No, I made the right decision.I was on the line and in mind I have a clear picture. Turone was past the line of the ball when Pruzzo headed it.

While there have been many references to television analysis of the event in the years since, some suggesting one thing, others another, Sancini accepts the evidence offered up by the RAI television company. Apparently, on the day of the game, strike action had reduced the number of cameras normally deployed for such games. But, reportedly, a journalist named Gianfranco De Laurentiis used a slow-motion technique called Telebeam to analyse the footage and backed up the linesmans decision declaring Turone to be offside by a matter of ten centimetres.

Quoted onTutto Juvein January 2016, Sancini clearly gives that little credence. Is Turone convinced of the opposite? Well, maybe I was better placed than he. He came from behind, but when Pruzzo touches the ball he was already ahead of everyone. I had a clear view, I saw well.

Sancini also revealed that there was little protest from Roma players or officials. He even mentioned that Roma president Dino Viola congratulated the officials on the game and that he was a gentleman about the entire matter. Bergamo concurred with the description of the post-match events. We received the compliments of the presidents of Juve and Rome. Yes, even Dino Viola came to thank us for our work. He claimed to have lost the Scudetto by a matter of centimetres.

Some time later, when it became evident that the same Viola had reportedly sought to bribe a referee ahead of a European Cup semi-final against Dundee United, more than a few Scottish fans may well have disagreed with the officials description of the Roma president.

Someone also likely to take a different view of the events is the man whose fleeting moment of ecstasy was then replaced with despair. As Sancini suggests, understandably Tuone disputed the decision, although as the years pass, he concedes to becoming a little worn down by the subject: Im a little tired of talking about it, people ask me all the time, its almost become an obsession.

That said, his recollection is different to that of Sancini, but perhaps not Bergamo. A glaring blunder, the dynamics of the action was in fact simple and the fact that I arrived from behind could not be doubted.I will say more: Bergamo was in an optimal position to decide for himself. But he didnt feel like taking the responsibility.

Harsh, reasonable or still stained with a touch of bitterness and regret? Turone, a child of Varazze in the north of Italy, has little regard for talk of accommodations made or favours offered. I dont think Juventus was going to look for help.Lets not forget that this was a great team: Zoff, Gentile, Cabrini, Scirea, Tardelli. That is the skeleton of the national team that would become the world champion the following year. And then Bettega, Causio, Brady.

He clearly recognises that Juve were a top team, and perhaps worthy champions. One must not forget that, earlier in the season, they had visited the capital and come away with a goalless draw against Roma. Turone is also quick to suggest that, had things gone the other way, Roma would also have been deserved champions. But we were no less so: Conti, Pruzzo, Ancelotti, Di Bartolomei and above all Falco.A phenomenon, a complete player.

The game, and the events around the 80th minute, had an enormous effect on the championship, but Juve still had two difficult fixtures to complete, and the Roma manager for one was ill-disposed to raise a white flag. There were still two days to go until the end of the season and we were confident that we would still be able to recover the point that separated us from Juventus.

Those words sounded a little hollow after the following weeks matches. Roma rattled five goals past the abject Pistoiese to complete their side of requirement, but in Naples, an unexpectedly insipid Napoli seemed to offer little resistance to Juves title march and an own goal just past the hour mark by Mario Guidetti, diverting the ball past Luciano Castellini as he attempted to cut out a cross, gifted them a 1-0 victory.

Its the sort of outcome that inevitably reinforces feelings of paranoia and would have encouraged any number of wry smiles and nods of fearing the inevitable in Rome.

It seemed all was over then for the league title and so it was. A 1-1 draw against Avellino suggested that the Roma players were resigned to their fate, and when Juventus triumphed over Fiorentina, again by a single goal thanks to a rare strike by Antonio Cabrini, the die was cast.

Juventus would jealously guard the Scudetto the following season as they again ran out as champions, but the following term, Roma, Di Agostino and Liedholm would take their revenge, heading the table by four points. A run to the European Cup final the following season, with the game taking place in the Olimpico, offered another tantalising glimpse of glory for theGiallorossi, before the caprices of football again thwarted their ambition as Liverpool triumphed in a penalty shootout.

Liedholm left to return to Milan and, despite a slight renaissance under new manager, another Swede, Sven-Gran Eriksson, there was little to ease the burning hurt of perceived injustice of what might have been. This was the Gol di Turone, when ten alleged centimetres saw to Romas despair.

Allocating blame for Covid-19 might be satisfying, but it is unhelpful – The Guardian

Early March seems like a lifetime ago. Its easy to look back at those halcyon days with a sort of fondness, even a note of joy. Yes, there was sadness a family member lost their job, my wifes shifts were cut back and our income dipped substantially but there were also many bright lights shining through lockdown. Friends organised a weekly trivia, and while we never won, we had a great time playing. A group of gamers got together with our Nintendo Switches and played endless hours of Mario Kart, having fun together even though we were legally mandated to be apart. It was sad, yes, but also exciting and fun, something new to liven up the tedium of day-to-day life.

Six months later and its not fun any more.

Gone are the cheerful smiles as we enter yet another weekly hang with friends wed rather see in person. The weekly family chats are sparsely attended, and while were all keeping in touch, the distance looms ever larger. Living in Sydney, we could even perhaps reinstate some of these gatherings, but everyones just a little too scared of what might happen, despite the technological exhaustion. Weve all got Covid-19 fatigue, and even the vague thought that we might have to enter lockdown again is a terrifying weight on all of our minds.

We watch our friends in Melbourne and cannot even imagine their pain and sorrow.

In this blue atmosphere, the thing thats picking up more than anything else is the blame game. Its not surprising were all human, and when we are suffering we need someone or something to blame. Australia was doing so well, we think, It must be someones fault that were in this mess.

The virus has made us all feel helpless, so we search desperately for someone to denounce

And so we go on the warpath, looking for a sacrificial lamb. Maybe it was a horny security guard who doomed us all, even though such a person still hasnt actually been identified. Maybe its the government, who adopted masks too late, or too early, depending on your political persuasion. Maybe its those dastardly people who keep breaking quarantine despite the many government warnings and are obviously spreading the virus (of course, you too broke lockdown half a dozen times back in April, but that was different somehow). Maybe its society itself, that doesnt allow casual workers the time off to be sick and demanded that essential workers sacrifice their health and even their lives to keep the economy moving even before the pandemic started.

The problem is that this allocating of blame is, at best, unhelpful. In the autopsy of what went wrong in 2020, there will almost certainly be people who did the wrong thing, and Im sure well spend countless gleeful hours dissecting their mistakes. But here and now, apportioning blame is all but impossible. Sure, some teenagers broke the rules, but when we have had some politicians labelling lockdowns as worthless and national media figures dismissing the virus as harmless for the young, can we really blame them? If I was 18 again, ignorantly confident in my own immortality, I too would maybe think that this whole thing was a bit overblown.

As with everything this year, it feels like a tired phrase, but we really are all in this together. Angrily decrying peoples perceived mistakes, while sometimes satisfying, doesnt really help any of us. The virus has made us all feel helpless, so we search desperately for someone to denounce, even though the reality is that its Covid-19 thats really the issue here. Pointing the finger of blame may feel good, but often we dont really have enough evidence to even know who is at fault, never mind how bad the slip-up might have been. The one constant in this year of change is how little we truly understand about whats happening, because the simple fact is that none of us have ever dealt with a situation like this before.

I dont expect people to stop blaming each other as I said, were all human after all. In the face of an uncertain future, we want (or maybe even need) something to get angry about. We might be unsure of whats going to happen next and as an epidemiologist, I can tell you it is incredibly hard to predict but in spite of that its worth remembering most people really are trying their best.

I guess what Im saying is to love your neighbour. Hopelessly cliche, perhaps, but maybe theres a reason that such sayings are burned so deeply into our collective consciousness. We might eventually find a single person to blame (although I think its unlikely), but in the meantime we can really only get mad at the virus itself, because ultimately Covid-19 is behind all of this damage. It might not be as satisfying to yell at a microorganism as a person, but I can assure you its remarkably cathartic.

10 Best Kurt Russell Action Movies, According To Rotten Tomatoes – Screen Rant

By any measure, Kurt Russell is a force of nature. In almost everyindustry, the ability to last or have the staying power to be relevant over the decades is an indicator of greatness. Russell got his start in television on the show Dennis the Menace in 1962.

RELATED:Kurt Russell's 10 Best Movies Ranked, According To IMDb

But, movies would soon follow. Starting with Guns of Diablo in 1964, Russell became a familiar and popular film star in supporting and leading roles. The following are the 10 best action movies according to Rotten Tomatoes.

Unlawful Entry is a tense thriller about a couple terrorized by a police officer with boundary issues. Russell is the patient husband Michael Carr. But, when the officer, played by Ray Liotta, takes things too far, Russell fights back to protect his wife played by Madeleine Stowe.

This is a story about an everyman who is pushed to become a reluctant hero defending his home and loved one. Russell is a kind and understanding hero who only does what is necessary and does not relish violence. But, when he finally does strike, the mild-mannered Carr stands his ground and rises to the challenge.

Russell was part of an all-star cast that included Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday, and Michael Biehn and Powers Boothe as the leaders of the villainous Cowboys. Russell portrayed legendary lawman Wyatt Earp. Sam Elliott and Bill Paxton played his brothers Virgil and Morgan, respectively.

Tombstone was based more around the legend of the Earps than the historical record of the famed gunman and his family. Wyatt has given up the life of law enforcement and wants nothing more than to become a successful businessman. But, when his family is threatened, Russell brings to life a vengeful Wyatt Earp hungry for blood.

Backdraft was one of two major films starring Kurt Russell. The film is still famous for its haunting depictions of the danger that fires can create and the risk that firefighters face battling them. Russell and his younger brother, played by William Baldwin, butt heads when they are assigned to the same engine.

The film also paired Russell with legendary tough man Scott Glenn. The high-action firefighting scenes are coupled with a mystery arsonist and sibling rivalry. Russell's broken marriage and life on a boat also gave an insight into the complications that firefighting can bring into marriages and families.

Despite not breaking the eightieth percentile according to Rotten Tomatoes, Big Trouble in Little Chinawas and is a cult-classic. Russell's ultra-macho Jack Burton is a big talker who finds himself in the middle of an ancient war. With the help of his friend Wang Chi, played by Dennis Dun, Burton joins an army of martial artists and magicians in a battle with a 3,000-year-old warlord named Lopan.

At stake is Wang's fiancee Miao Yin, played by Suzee Pai, and a fledging reporter named Gracie Law, played by Kim Cattrall, who Burton has developed a romantic interest in. Demons, magic potions, and superb knife-throwing skills should make this a higher ranking title on Russell's action-movie list.

It's hard to get people to care about a movie that boils down to an unstoppable eco-disaster caused by an oil company's dangerous practices. The movie is built around the crew of the Deepwater Horizon that was present on April 20th, 2010 when the oil-drilling platform began leaking water.

In anattempt to capture the scale of one of the largest man-made disasters in the world, Jimmy Harrell is a voice of reason trying to keep the platform running and his crew safe. He is a voice of moral conviction that British Petroleum (BP) refuses to listen to.

This updated remake of a 1951 classic cemented John Carpenter as a master of suspense and horror. The thirty years that passed also meant better special effects. But, it's Russell's portrayal of helicopter pilot MacReady of the everyman thrown into a nightmare that catapulted this film into the video vault's of fans and critics alike.

The isolated wilderness of an Antarctic research facility is the perfect setting for a thrilling psychological adventure. Facing an unknown foe that can change shape and dwindling numbers, The Thing showcases a Kurt Russell who can command a scene with tense acting and bursts of authentic action.

Grindhouse was an homage to the poorly edited chophouse films of the 70s that were cheaply made and filled with gratuitous violence, nudity, and mediocre special effects. The project housed two movies and the first was directed by Robert Rodriguez called Planet Terror. The second was directed by Quentin Tarantino and starred Russell as a crazed motorist delivering death at 200 mph who might as well be Death Proof.

Under the direction of Tarantino, Russell mows down a who's who of celebrities including Rose McGowan and Rosario Dawson. The sleazy tribute includes fake exploitation trailers and hatchet-style edits that echo the makeshift quality that made films like this an unapologetic hit in big city low-budget theaters.

Ego is the name of a living planet that originated in the pages of Marvel Comics. But, in the movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, hero-in-progress Peter Quill discovers that Ego is his father. Half-human and half-alien DNA saved him from the destructive forces of an Infinity Stone and made him one of the few progenies that survived.

Russell's turn as Ego is as sweet as the character's love for the song Brandy. Things take a violent turn when Ego reveals that eating his children is the key to the living planet's immortality. CGI special effects only amplify Russell's ability to bring every action scene to life.

The 1981-version of 1997 is a bleak and tragic landscape. A broken world has turned the island of Manhattan into a maximum-security prison housing some of America's most dangerous criminals. Thankfully, Snake Plissken is willing to take the most dangerous jobs as long as the price is right.

Which is why the ex-soldier and current criminal accepts a bribe from a merciless prison warden. The deal is simple. The president's plane was hijacked. It crashed and the president is being held, hostage. Only a hardened criminal with the skills of a soldier can offer the country the hope of getting back its leader.

Sheriff Franklin Hunt is an aging sheriff in a little western town called Bright Hope. Hunt, played by Russell, is the town's only hope when cannibal's kidnap settlers, including a doctor. What follows is a harrowing account of an Old West mission of rescue and redemption.

The gritty action and Russell's relentless determination are driving forces. Along the way, the elder hero makes poignant statements like, "pain is your body's way of talking to you. You'd do well to listen to it," put this western at the top of Russell's action movie list according to Rotten Tomatoes.

Can a quantum strategy help bring down the house? – Big Think

In some versions of the game blackjack, one way to win against the house is for players at the table to work as a team to keep track of and covertly communicate amongst each other the cards they have been dealt.

With that knowledge, they can then estimate the cards still in the deck, and those most likely to be dealt out next, all to help each player decide how to place their bets, and as a team, gain an advantage over the dealer.

This calculating strategy, known as card-counting, was made famous by the MIT Blackjack Team, a group of students from MIT, Harvard University, and Caltech, who for several decades starting in 1979, optimized card-counting and other techniques to successfully beat casinos at blackjack around the world a story that later inspired the book "Bringing Down the House."

Now researchers at MIT and Caltech have shown that the weird, quantum effects of entanglement could theoretically give blackjack players even more of an edge, albeit a small one, when playing against the house.

In a paper published this week in the journal Physical Review A, the researchers lay out a theoretical scenario in which two players, playing cooperatively against the dealer, can better coordinate their strategies using a quantumly entangled pair of systems. Such systems exist now in the laboratory, although not in forms convenient for any practical use in casinos. In their study, the authors nevertheless explore the theoretical possibilities for how a quantum system might influence outcomes in blackjack.

They found that such quantum communication would give the players a slight advantage compared to classical card-counting strategies, though in limited situations where the number of cards left in the dealer's deck is low.

"It's pretty small in terms of the actual magnitude of the expected quantum advantage," says first author Joseph Lin, a former graduate student at MIT. "But if you imagine the players are extremely rich, and the deck is really low in number, so that every card counts, these small advantages can be big. The exciting result is that there's some advantage to quantum communication, regardless of how small it is."

Lin's MIT co-authors on the paper are professor of physics Joseph Formaggio, associate professor of physics Aram Harrow, and Anand Natarajan of Caltech, who will start at MIT in September as assistant professor of electrical engineering and computer science.

Entanglement is a phenomenon described by the rules of quantum mechanics, which states that two physically separate objects can be "entangled," or correlated with each other, in such a way that the correlations between them are stronger than what would be predicted by the classical laws of physics and probability.

In 1964, physicist John Bell proved mathematically that quantum entanglement could exist, and also devised a test known a Bell test that scientists have since applied to many scenarios to ascertain if certain spatially remote particles or systems behave according to classical, real-world physics, or whether they may exhibit some quantum, entangled states.

"One motivation for this work was as a concrete realization of the Bell test," says Harrow of the team's new paper. "People wrote the rules of blackjack not thinking of entanglement. But the players are dealt cards, and there are some correlations between the cards they get. So does entanglement work here? The answer to the question was not obvious going into it."

After casually entertaining the idea during a regular poker night with friends, Formaggio decided to explore the possibility of quantum blackjack more formally with his MIT colleagues.

"I was grateful to them for not laughing and closing the door on me when I brought up the idea," Formaggio recalls.

In blackjack, the dealer deals herself and each player a face-up card that is public to all, and a face-down card. With this information, each player decides whether to "hit," and be dealt another card, or "stand," and stay with the cards they have. The goal after one round is to have a hand with a total that is closer to 21, without going over, than the dealer and the other players at the table.

In their paper, the researchers simulated a simple blackjack setup involving two players, Alice and Bob, playing cooperatively against the dealer. They programmed Alice to consistently bet low, with the main objective of helping Bob, who could hit or stand based on any information he gained from Alice.

The researchers considered how three different scenarios might help the players win over the dealer: a classical card-counting scenario without communication; a best-case scenario in which Alice simply shows Bob her face-down card, demonstrating the best that a team can do in playing against the dealer; and lastly, a quantum entanglement scenario.

In the quantum scenario, the researchers formulated a mathematical model to represent a quantum system, which can be thought of abstractedly as a box with many "buttons," or measurement choices, that is shared between Alice and Bob.

For instance, if Alice's face-down card is a 5, she can push a particular button on the quantum box and use its output to inform her usual choice of whether to hit or stand. Bob, in turn, looks at his face-down card when deciding which button to push on his quantum box, as well as whether to use the box at all. In the cases where Bob uses his quantum box, he can combine its output with his observation of Alice's strategy to decide his own move. This extra information not exactly the value of Alice's card, but more information than a random guess can help Bob decide whether to hit or stand.

The researchers ran all three scenarios, with many combinations of cards between each player and the dealer, and with increasing number of cards left in the dealer's deck, to see how often Alice and Bob could win against the dealer.

After running thousands of rounds for each of the three scenarios, they found that the players had a slight advantage over the dealer in the quantum entanglement scenario, compared with the classical card-counting strategy, though only when a handful of cards were left in the dealer's deck.

"As you increase the deck and therefore increase all the possibilities of different cards coming to you, the fact that you know a little bit more through this quantum process actually gets diluted," Formaggio explains.

Nevertheless, Harrow notes that "it was surprising that these problems even matched, that it even made sense to consider entangled strategy in blackjack."

Do these results mean that future blackjack teams might use quantum strategies to their advantage?

"It would require a very large investor, and my guess is, carrying a quantum computer in your backpack will probably tip the house," Formaggio says. "We think casinos are safe right now from this particular threat."

This research was funded, in part, by the National Science Foundation, the Army Research Office, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the MIT Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP).

Mesothelioma Lawyer: 5 Things to Look for in 2020 – California Herald

Finding a mesothelioma lawyer can be complicated and troublesome for those diagnosed with this illness. Mesothelioma is a rare cancer caused by asbestos exposure and thousands have been affected by this disease over the past 5 decades world wide. Compared to the coronavirus, it is much more rare and seen mainly in individuals with work history around asbestos in some shape or form. Due to the illness being caused by workplace exposure, many have decided to hire attorneys to go after asbestos corporations who are responsible for their developing condition, thus, the mesothelioma lawyer was born. Here are a few tips to look for when searching for a mesothelioma lawyer https://www.gpwlaw-mi.com/.

1. Asbestos Product and Corporation Database: This is the single most important aspect about mesothelioma attorneys that sets them apart from all other forms of personal injury lawyers. An asbestos product and corporation database essentially refers to a collection of documents relevant to potential cases from asbestos corporations which can include but is not limited to depositions, invoices, product records, products sold, locations, and other key documents which outline how exactly a company is responsible for a victims exposure to begin with.

2. Experience: Experience is a critical aspect about looking for any attorney actually. This key piece is crucial as typically the more experience an attorney has under his or her belt, the more successful they will be in court. This is assuming that the second step follows closely behind this one.

3. Track Record in Court: A lawyers track record in court essentially refers to how many cases he or she has won or lost. Obviously, the more wins, the more likely said attorney will be able to achieve the same successful result for you or your loved ones case.

4. Care: Your attorney must care about you and your case deeply. They should not be caught up on how much they can make from a client and truly do the best they can for each and every client.

5. Notability: This is a unique, but not always necessary aspect of a mesothelioma lawyer. Your lawyers notability is essentially how well known they are in their specific area of litigation. Asbestos litigation has existed in the United States for over 5 decades. With this being said, there are plenty of notable and well recognized mesothelioma law firms across the United States. Notability does not necessarily mean TV advertisers, do not let that fool you. Notability truly refers to large lump sum wins for clients and a consistent practice history spread across many states successfully.

If you or a loved one is finding it difficult to search for a mesothelioma lawyer, one good option for them would be the attorneys at Goldberg, Persky & White P.C., their attorneys have fought hard for victims of asbestos exposure since 1976 and are continuing to do so even amidst the global coronavirus pandemic. As with any form of lawsuit, time is of the essence as each state has laws referred to as statute of limitations. Statute of limitations essentially refers to the time limit allowed to file a lawsuit after someone has been diagnosed with mesothelioma. On average this number fluctuates state to state, so speaking with an attorney sooner than later is always preferred. To add to this, a successful mesothelioma case may take over a year to fully settle with all relevant asbestos corporations due to how long it takes to gather, present, and hear back from relevant parties as well as court proceedings. If you or a loved one was recently diagnosed with mesothelioma, contacting a mesothelioma lawyer can be a life changing decision for them.
