Op-ed: Don’t be friends with radical members of the other party – The Huntington News

With the election ever so relevant, the gap between Democrats and Republicans couldnt be wider. Nearly every issue is hotly debated, and the chasm between ideologies is larger than at almost any other point in history. Especially with the rise of social media, many people remain in partisan echo chambers, firmly entrenched in their own point of view.

But it hasnt always been this way. Even as recently as 2008, Obama and McCain engaged in civil discourse, with McCain even at one point defending Obama as a decent family man [and] citizen that just I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues, and thats what the campaigns all about. Past politicians, and by extension the people they represented, treated one another with respect, decency and courtesy.

That isnt the case today. As the political climate becomes more polarized, people are often charged with a difficult decision: Should someone stop being friends with a person on the other side of the aisle? Historically, that answer has been no. However, with the rise of extremism and radicalism, the shifting of social circles due to politics may now be as justified as it ever will be.

Nowadays, news channels and social media circles have created echo chambers of extreme political thought, which has spread it dramatically. Even in a recent Congressional hearing on Section 230 involving several technology companies, senators asked Facebooks CEO Mark Zuckerberg what his company was doing to limit their involvement in the increase of radicalization, with Facebook being used as a communication platform for extremists planning to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer or engage in the Kenosha shootings.

In politics today, the left is moving farther toward cancel culture and extreme political correctness, while the right is moving farther toward a Christian, conservative, pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps mentality.

Both ends of the political spectrum have evidently demonstrated ethically unsound behavior. Take, for example, the city of Portland, Oregon where violent riots following George Floyds death cost approximately $23 million in damages and loss of business. Or look at the presidents disparaging remarks to Congress members of color, in which he said that some of them, including American-born Ayanna Pressley, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib, should go back to their crime-infested countries.

This election is no longer about what this country needs from its leader. Instead, its about which side has done a better job infiltrating the minds of American voters through their phones and their television sets. We, as a nation, have been locked in to a certain brand of politics, where opposing ideas are ridiculed or shunned. Im not advocating for cutting reasonable or courteous people from your circle because of their political affiliation. But we can not condone this kind of radicalization in our politics to the point of violence or bigotry. We cannot condone looting and pillaging of our cities, nor active discrimination against our immigrant population.

So if you know someone who is in the process of becoming politically radicalized, no matter if its towards the left or the right, do yourself a favor and cut them out of your life.

Friedman: When my president sang ‘Amazing Grace’ – The Register-Guard

Thomas Friedman| The New York Times

This is my last regular column before Election Day, so what is there left to say? Instead of giving you an answer, let me leave you with a question, which I think is the question. What would you do if your kid came home from school and said:

Mom, Dad, my teacher said President Obama ordered the killing of the U.S. Special Forces team that supposedly killed Osama bin Laden. My teacher said bin Laden is actually still alive, that the guy the Navy SEALs killed was a body double. He also claimed that Obamas aides got Iran to send bin Laden to Pakistan so Obama could have a trophy kill. Whats a trophy kill? My teacher said he had heard all of this somewhere on the internet, and he just thought hed pass it along to our class. Mom, Dad, is this true?

I know how Id respond. Id immediately call the school principal and ask how someone peddling such vile and fraudulent conspiracy stuff could be teaching in any classroom in America. Who wouldnt? It violates the most basic judgment and norms of decency that we expect of anyone teaching in public school or serving in public office.

And that is really the question Donald Trumps voters cant ignore: Why would you be ready to fire your kids teacher for passing along such disgusting nonsense but be willing to rehire the nations teacher in chief our president, the man with the most-read blackboard in the world after he peddled exactly these crazy conspiracy theories to some 87 million people on Twitter the other day? Is there anything more warped?

On Oct. 13, Trump retweeted a post from an account linked to QAnon, a collective of online conspiracists, which has since been suspended, CNN reported. The tweet alleged Biden and Obama may have had SEAL Team 6 killed, that Osama bin Laden was still alive, and that the man killed in the Obama-directed raid led by SEAL Team 6 was actually a body double. Later that night, Trump retweeted a post claiming top Obama administration officials colluded to bring bin Laden from Iran to Pakistan for Obamas trophy kill.

The CNN story continued: Trumps initial retweet was rebuked by one of the Navy SEAL members of the raid, who is very much still alive. Very brave men said goodby (sic) to their kids to go kill Osama bin Laden, Robert J. ONeill tweeted following Trumps retweet. We were given the order by President Obama. It was not a body double.

ONeill, who has previously expressed support for Trump, told CNNs Chris Cuomo that the promotion of these conspiracy theories for the purpose of politics is really trampling on the graves of some of the best heroes I have ever personally worked with.

When NBC News Savannah Guthrie asked Trump why he would spread such a lie, Trump shrugged: That was a retweet; Ill put it out there. People can decide for themselves.

In other words, Trump sees as part of his job as president with the worlds best global intelligence network at his disposal not to discredit malicious conspiracy theories, so Americans can better navigate a confusing world, but rather to spread this bile, without even asking the CIA or the FBI if its true. Let people sort it out for themselves, he says as if their resources match his.

I understand that many Americans stand by Trump because of his policies on immigration, taxes, political correctness or selection of judges, or because they feel he gives voice to their grievances against elites who may look down on them. None of that resonates with me, but those are legitimate positions shared by some 40% of the country.

But our president is not just a policy robot. Hes also a role model, whether he or we like it or not. So, for all of you who plan to cast your ballot for Trump, I beg you to ask yourselves: How can you tolerate behaviors in a president that you would never tolerate in your kids seventh-grade teacher or babysitter?

Trump has so redefined decency down that we have forgotten what is normal, let alone optimal, in an American president. We have forgotten what it is like to have a truth-teller, a healer, in the White House, someone who starts his day with at least the inclination to unite the country and to project America at its best for the world not someone who has lived every day in office aspiring to be president only of his base, while offering anyone at home or abroad looking to the United States for inspiration just one message: Show me the money.

As I was reflecting on all this last weekend, my friend Elena Park, an executive producer for Stanford Live, sent me a YouTube video an incredible performance the other day by singer Meklit and the Kronos Quartet of The President Sang Amazing Grace.

The song was written by Zoe Mulford about the 2015 murders of nine people at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, by a white supremacist. It was debuted by Mulford in 2017, telling in song how a different president, Barack Obama, came down to that church for a memorial service and during his eulogy for the Rev. Clementa Pinckney sang Amazing Grace, one of the most moving and healing moments of his presidency.

As Meklit sang:

We argued where to lay the blame

On one mans hate or our nations shame

Some sickness of the mind or soul

And how those wounds might be made whole

But no words could say what must be said

For all the living and the dead

So on that day and in that place

The President sang Amazing Grace

My President sang Amazing Grace

So, theres your choice in a nutshell, folks. You can vote for a president who retweets sick conspiracy theories claiming that his predecessor murdered U.S. Navy SEALs. Or you can vote for Joe Biden, a man who, like Obama, will strive each day to make our wounds whole, and do it, Im sure, with dignity and grace.

Bioengineering: Career Path & Salary Averages | UC Riverside

The answer is largely in the eye of the beholder, but for many people, its one that is professionally rewarding and offers a high annual salary.

The medical field blends the best of both worlds. Year after year, when reports on the highest-paying occupations are released, the health care industry which encompasses medical and biological disciplines is routinely at the top of the list.

However, considering the fact that health care represents approximately one-sixth of the United States economy, there are a host of potential branches of medicine to consider.

One of the more popular career arcs that more people are pursuing is bioengineering. Biomedical engineers work for a variety of employers, including colleges and universities, pharmaceutical manufacturers, engineering and life sciences firms, companies in research and development, as well as medical devices and supplies manufacturing organizations. Their skills are in high demand because their experience combines the technical know-how that engineers are known for, with the expertise, professionalism and capabilities medical researchers bring to the table.

Whats more, the average bioengineering salary is quite lucrative even at entry level. With an online Master of Science in Engineering with a specialization in Bioengineering through the University of California, Riverside, you can set yourself up for success in this branch of health care and find a high-paying position upon graduation, as the job outlook for biomedical engineering is better than the national average. Indeed, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, an estimated 20,000 new biomedical engineering jobs are poised to open up between 2016 and 2026 nationwide.

All this being said, the question remains: What is the typical bioengineering salary like in terms of actual numbers?

Before answering the bioengineer salary question, its helpful to get a better understanding of what bioengineers work is like. The Bureau of Labor Statistics effectively summarizes what they do on a day-to-day basis. In general, bioengineers design, install, evaluate and create the machines and medical devices that physicians use to treat and diagnose patients. Because so much of their expertise involves biomechanics, they must be proficient in mechanical engineering. Several of the classes in the online Master of Science in Engineering program revolve around the branch of study, including Introduction to Microelectromechanical Systems, Sustainable Product Design as well as Design and Analysis of Engineering Experiments, each of which is a four credit-hour course. As youll discover, many of the courses within bioengineering have some overlap with similar branches, such as environmental engineering.

Despite being different professions, each uses many of the same problem-solving skills to achieve results, with the ultimate goal of bettering the publics overall health and well-being through the use of state-of-the-art equipment, software and intelligent devices. Their capabilities in these capacities in addition to their expertise obtained through schooling and on-the-job experience are among the main reasons why bioengineers, in particular, are so well compensated.

Most roles in health care require several years of schooling. Medical scientists are a classic example, who typically need a medical degree in addition to their undergraduate. The role of bioengineer is a rare exception. A bachelors degree is the typical level of education needed for entry-level professionals. However, a number of biomedical engineering jobs require a masters degree.

Although there are always exceptions, the more education you obtain, the higher the potential reward. Among all professions, individuals with a professional degree in 2017 had an average salary that paid approximately $700 more per week than those with only a bachelors degree, according to the most recent statistics available from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Those with a masters degree earned roughly $300 more.

All this being said, what can you expect to earn with a bioengineering salary? As is so often the case, it depends on several factors, including who you ask, the type of bioengineer job thats available, location and years of experience.

For instance, in 2018, the median bioengineer salary was $88,550 per year, according to BLS analysis. That translates to an hourly rate of roughly $42.50.

Speak to bioengineers in research and development, though, and they may tell you a different salary story. In May 2018 the most recent month for which complete government data was available bioengineers earned a median of $93,250. Those in medical equipment and supplies manufacturing made less at $83,450 per year, with biomedical engineers employed at colleges, universities and other academic institutions earning $69,100. That is still higher than what the average household receives in annual wages.

Meanwhile, bioengineers in navigational, measuring, electromedical and control instruments manufacturing saw the highest annual wages in 2018. The median was $101,960.

Overall meaning biomedical engineers, in general the top 10% earned $144,350 annually, BLS data showed. In short, a six-figure salary is more than possible its probable. The more years of experience you have, the greater the likelihood of a high-paying job.

Other highly respected organizations and publications corroborate BLS facts and figures. The American Institute for Medical and Biomedical Engineering says bioengineers in research and development currently make the most on average at nearly $102,600. The typical bioengineering salary in pharmaceuticals is roughly $98,610 and $95,000 in medical equipment manufacturing.

As previously referenced, where a job may open in biomedical engineering in the U.S. can also influence actual earnings. According to the Economic Research Institute, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the average is $124,000, and nearby Columbus, the typical bioengineering salary is $146,000.

Meanwhile, in Massachusetts capital city of Boston, bioengineers earn $146,000 annually. Bioengineering salary levels are influenced by demand, the nature of the job and cost of living, among other factors.

The same goes for countries. While U.S.-based bioengineering salary levels are generally the most lucrative, others include Japan ($92,956 per year), Switzerland ($93,575) and Australia ($87,650), based on figures compiled by ERI.

These figures are all related to what the bioengineer salary is today. But what about tomorrow, meaning several years from now? Earnings are expected to surge, potentially by as much as 16% over a five-year period. Specifically, by 2024, the estimated salary could top $146,800, according to ERI.

If you have a passion for medicine but also enjoy the tasks that electronics engineers engage in, biomedical engineering is the perfect combination. It is a multidisciplinary profession that allows you to work in many different capacities toward the common goal of helping people experience longer more fulfilling lives. Whether it is the electrical circuitry that runs medical equipment or designing prosthetics that replace limbs, a biomedical engineering career is richly rewarding in more ways than one.

All this and much more is possible with an online Masters in Engineering degree from UC Riverside. Enjoy the flexibility of making your own schedule by completing the program entirely online; you dont need to live in California to do so. Better yet, the curriculum is custom designed with your busy schedule in mind, enabling you to complete and receive your diploma in 13 months time.

Apply now to learn and potentially earn more.

Its scientists will provide Research and Development facilities while businessmen in general and young entrepreneurs in particular will commercialize new and innovative technologies.

He said the FCCI should work closely with NIBGE and take responsibility to finance different pilot projects based on new and workable ideas.

Explaining the achievements of the NIBGE, he said it has introduced the innovative idea of floating gardens to recycle the industrial effluent. These floating gardens are being successfully used in Chakera water treatment ponds by Water And Sanitation Agency (WASA), he maintained.

He said this facility could also be provided for Paharang and Maduaana drains passing from the western and eastern side of the city. These floating gardens will treat the waste water before its safe discharge into the nearby river, he said and added that it will not pollute the river water and thus play an instrumental role in saving aquatic life. He further said that treated water of these drains could also be used for irrigation purposes in the water starved areas of the region.

FCCI senior vice president Chaudhry Talat Mahmood appreciated the role of NIAB and NIBGE in the overall development of the country and said our main issue is dissemination of innovative technology at the gross root level and in this connection the FCCI and NIBGE should ink a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU). Executive Member Dr. Sajjad Arshad said Pakistan is importing vaccines for poultry birds from Egypt.

NIBGE must prepare this vaccine locally to save the precious foreign exchange, he added. The meeting was also attended by Dr Habib Aslam Gaba and other executive members of the FCCI.

"One of the primary growth drivers for this market is the growth of pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries in APAC, says a senior analyst for Industrials at Technavio.

The pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries are witnessing high growth in APAC, especially in developing countries such as China and India. This can be attributed to various initiatives taken by regulatory bodies to strengthen the pharmaceutical industry. For instance, the Government of India allocated about USD 8.8 billion in its Union Budget 2019-2020 for the development of the healthcare sector. The country has also eased the FDI rules to attract investments in the healthcare sector. Many such factors have been contributing to the growth of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries in APAC. The pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries are the major end-users of cleanroom consumables. Thus, all these factors are expected to drive the demand for cleanroom consumables during the forecast period. As the markets recover Technavio expects the cleanroom consumables market size to grow by USD 2.64 billion during the period 2020-2024.

TFF Pharmaceuticals and Felix Biotechnology Sign Letter of Intent for a Collaboration, Development and License Agreement – Yahoo Finance

Felix Biotechnology would obtain worldwide license for Thin Film Freezing technology to develop a novel, bacteriophage-based biotherapeutic

Proposed terms provide for upfront payments, clinical development milestone and commercial milestone payments to TFF Pharmaceuticals of up to $281 million, as well as negotiated royalty payments

TFF Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: TFFP), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing innovative drug products based on its patented Thin Film Freezing (TFF) technology platform, and Felix Biotechnology, Inc., a clinical stage, biotherapeutic-based antibiotic development company, today jointly announce that both companies have entered into a letter of intent (LOI) which reflects the parties non-binding agreement in principle to negotiate and enter into a Collaboration, Development and License Agreement (CDLA).

Under this proposed CDLA agreement, Felix Biotechnology would obtain a worldwide license to TFF Pharmaceuticals Thin Film Freezing technology to develop and manufacture dry powder formulations of a novel, bacteriophage-based biotherapeutics for inhalation delivery directly to the lungs of patients. Under the terms of the proposed CDLA and in exchange for the license to the TFF technology, Felix would agree to pay TFF Pharmaceuticals an upfront payment, development milestones, commercial milestones and royalties on net sales of the Felix biotherapeutics. A definitive CDLA is subject to the mutual agreement of the parties and a number of conditions, including Felix Biotechnologys successful completion of a Series A financing.

"We are very excited to be pursuing an agreement with Felix Biotechnology, a company on the leading edge of developing bacteriophage therapies that initially are targeting bacterial lung infections," said Glenn Mattes, President and CEO of TFF Pharmaceuticals. "We believe the reformulation of these unique, complex biologics using our TFF technology would represent a first-of-its-kind breakthrough and could provide a more effective and targeted delivery mechanism to the deep lung of patients. We look forward to working towards a final agreement and seeing this breakthrough technology advance into the clinic and beyond."

Story continues

"Our goal at Felix is not only to develop but also to deploy innovative solutions to tackle the growing and unmanaged challenge of antibiotic resistant bacterial infections. We currently deliver our generalized phage therapy directly to the lung via nebulization, and have done so successfully in humans. Our lead asset, targeting Pseudomonas infections in the lungs of CF patients is currently being evaluated in a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial at Yale in 36 patients," said Rob McBride, CEO of Felix Biotechnology. "We are excited to continue developing cutting edge and effective phage delivery solutions to our patients and our collaboration with TFF represents an important next step for us on this path."

"Bacteriophages, which are bacterial viruses that infect specific strains of a single bacteria species, are highly relevant as therapeutic alternatives to antibiotics because of the prevalence of multidrug resistance to antibiotics," said Robert O. Williams III, Division Head of the University of Texas at Austins Division of Molecular Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery and an inventor of TFF Pharmaceuticals Thin Film Freezing technology.

"The challenge, historically, of delivering bacteriophages is that their formulations have not been well optimized, limiting their shelf-life and subsequent potency. Many of these formulations also require cold-chain storage," continued Williams. "We have demonstrated that Thin Film Freezing can convert liquid bacteriophage into a dry powder that can be stored at typical room temperatures. This dry powder form of the bacteriophage can then be administered by intranasal/inhalation delivery to the lungs, or by injection after reconstitution at the point-of-use."

In May of 2020, the companies entered into a Feasibility and Material Transfer Agreement under which Felix Biotechnology supplied various phage product materials to TFF Pharmaceuticals for compatibility and feasibility testing. TFF Pharmaceuticals was successful in formulating dry powder formulations of the Felix phage products, which exhibited superior aerosol properties for lung delivery. Based on this successful formulation work and confirmatory in-vitro testing, which included titer testing and neutralization testing, both parties agreed to begin negotiating a licensing arrangement.

About Felix Biotechnology, Inc.

Felix Biotechnology is a clinical stage, biotherapeutic-based antibiotic development company with technology from Yale University and UC Berkeley, focused on accelerating the development and deployment of non-traditional biotherapeutic-based antibiotics targeting urgent microbial challenges in patients who can't wait. Their engineering and discovery platforms generate therapies that overcome key limitations of traditional phage therapy approaches (bacterial resistance and phage specificity). This allows for the deployment of generalized phage therapy that kill specific bacterial infections while preserving healthy microbiome function. About TFF Pharmaceuticals Thin Film Freezing technology platform

TFF Pharmaceuticals Thin Film Freezing (TFF) platform was designed to improve the solubility and absorption of poorly water-soluble drugs and is particularly suited to generate dry powder particles with properties targeted for inhalation delivery, especially to the deep lung, an area of extreme interest in respiratory medicine. The TFF process results in a "Brittle Matrix Particle," which possesses low bulk density, high surface area, and typically an amorphous morphology. allowing the particles to supersaturate when contacting the target site, such as lung tissue. Based upon laboratory experiments the aerodynamic properties of the particles are such that the portion of a drug deposited to the deep lung has the potential to reach as high as 75 percent.

About TFF Pharmaceuticals

TFF Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing innovative drug products based on its patented Thin Film Freezing, or TFF, technology platform. Early testing confirms that the TFF platform can significantly improve the solubility and absorption of poorly water-soluble drugs, a class of drugs that comprises approximately one-third of the major pharmaceuticals worldwide, thereby improving their pharmacokinetics. TFF Pharmaceuticals has two lead drug candidates: Voriconazole Inhalation Powder and Tac-Lac Inhalation Powder. The Company plans to add to this pipeline by collaborating with large pharmaceutical partners. The TFF Platform is protected by 42 patents issued or pending in the US and internationally. Puma Biotechnology Announces Interim Results from the Phase II SUMMIT Trial of Neratinib for EGFR Exon 18 Mutated, Metastatic Non-Small Cell Lung…

Puma Biotechnology, Inc. (NASDAQ: PBYI), a biopharmaceutical company, announced interim results from the ongoing SUMMIT trial of neratinib in the cohort of metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with epidermal growth factor (EGFR) exon 18 mutations that has been previously treated with an EGFR targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI). The Phase II SUMMIT basket trial is an open-label, multicenter, multinational study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of neratinib administered daily to patients who have solid tumors with activating EGFR exon 18 or HER2 mutations. In the EGFR exon 18 mutation cohort, patients with lung cancer with single or complex EGFR exon 18 mutations, who were EGFR TKI nave or were previously exposed to EGFR TKI, were enrolled into this study and received 240 mg of neratinib daily as a single agent.

In this cohort of 11, patients had received a median of 2 prior lines of therapy in the metastatic setting (range 1-3 prior regimens) before entering the trial. 10 patients had been previously treated with an EGFR targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor (gefitinib, erlotinib, osimertinib and/or afatinib).

The interim efficacy results from the trial showed that for the 10 evaluable patients who had been treated with a prior EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor, 6 patients (60%) experienced a partial response, which included 4 patients (40%) with a confirmed partial response. 8 patients (80%) experienced clinical benefit (clinical benefit is defined as confirmed complete response or partial response or stable disease for at least 16 weeks). The median duration of response was 7.5 months and the median progression free survival was 9.1 months. The success criteria for both the 1st stage and the 2nd stage of the Simons 2-stage design were met and enrollment in the 2nd stage of this cohort continues.

The safety profile observed in the subgroup of patients with EGFR exon 18 mutated NSCLC showed that for the 11 patients who received neratinib in the trial, there were no reports of grade 3 or higher diarrhea. 4 patients (36%) reported grade 1 and 1 patient (9%) reported grade 2 diarrhea. No patients required a dose hold, dose reduction, hospitalization or permanently discontinued neratinib due to diarrhea.

Story continues

Jonathan Goldman, MD, Associate Professor of Hematology & Oncology, Associate Director of Drug Development, and Director of Clinical Trials in Thoracic Oncology at UCLA, said, "These early study results are very exciting and may prove to be an effective option for NSCLC patients with EGFR exon 18 mutations for whom very few effective treatments exist once they fail first-line FDA approved TKI therapy."

Alan H. Auerbach, CEO and President of Puma Biotechnology, added, "We are very pleased with the preliminary activity seen with neratinib in this cohort of patients with EGFR exon 18 mutated NSCLC who have previously been treated with EGFR targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitors. We believe that there is a need for new treatments for these patients and we look forward to the further development of neratinib in this patient population."

Are We Shortchanging Patients With Obesity? – Medscape

Every Wednesday evening after supper, I record in a marble notebook some anthropomorphic measurements: my weight taken first thing Monday morning and my waist circumference. I also add how I did with exercise since the previous week's entry and some comments about sleep, energy, and nutrition.

My personal log now comprises dozens of pages. To my surprise, the first entry was 5 years ago to the month. The earlier entries were far from weekly and contained a lot of narrative on how my food restriction scheme that month was being violated.

Looking just at the numbers, I did about as well as a control group participant in any medical study of diet modification. Until just a few months ago, there was no trend in either weight or waist circumference over those 5 years, including 2 years of retirement. But it wasn't for lack of trying. Keeping the journal for as long as I have and recently, as consistently as I have suggests serious intent but inadequate execution of the same principles I offered patients, who rarely did much better. But recent studies suggest that perhaps quite a few could.

A recent abstract from the European and International Congress on Obesity suggests that the impressions clinicians get from our office encounters may leave us underestimating the potential for our patients to lose enough weight to move them from one level of risk to another.

Using a national database of primary care visits, the investigators isolated about 550,000 records. Of these, about 60,000 (11%) had records showing weight reductions of 10%-25% (mean, 13%) over at least 4 years. Weight loss was by intent rather than from illness. The remaining individuals maintained their weight within 5% of the first measurement for the duration of the study.

Participants with stable body weight were compared with the successful weight reducers. This analysis showed that the risk for type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, hypertension, and dyslipidemia all measurably declined in weight reducers. This held true whether the patient's baseline BMI showed modest or severe obesity. Patients with the highest BMI at enrollment actually reduced their risks for hypertension and dyslipidemia below population norms.

This study raises tantalizing, as yet unanswered questions: How did the successful 11% achieve their weight loss goals? Was it via a weight loss program, bariatric surgery, dietitian consult, or with no external assistance?

And of great significance to clinicians: What happened to the people who achieved 5%-10% weight reduction, as that is a more typical outcome of diabetes prevention trials or studies of weight loss medications? Were they excluded from the study because they did not lose enough weight to achieve the unequivocal health benefit?

Because the data came from an enormous database, the weight management strategies leading to success or failure what we really need to know to nudge our own patients into the favorable categories remain hidden.

Some answers emerged from a recently reported study in The New England Journal of Medicine comparing supervised diet and lifestyle adjustments (treatment group) with the less intense oversight typically offered by primary care clinicians (usual-care group).

The treatment group not only received the intensive lifestyle intervention, which focused on reduced caloric intake and increased physical activity, but also participated in mandated training sessions on how to best use the resources provided by the study. Much of the care was delegated by physicians to "coaches" who focused on nutrition, exercise, and behavioral health, including supermarket strategy.

Nearly a quarter of the participants in the intensive intervention group achieved the 10% weight reduction needed to change health risk in a meaningful way. A similar proportion lost less than 10% of their body weight, and about half did not have a notable weight change. Peak weight loss at 6 months averaged 17 lb, and 9.6 lb at 2 years. While this may not seem very impressive considering the extensive resources utilized, there were those who experienced an extraordinary health upgrade not otherwise available, short of bariatric surgery.

Both studies indicate that even under the best-controlled, resource-replete circumstances, the rate of failure to achieve desired progress is very high. But there is a success rate.

The likelihood of success is difficult to interpret from the European data, as it compared only those with major weight loss and those with weight stability, excluding patients with less robust loss or weight gain. The controlled study, however, holds forth an alluring opportunity benefiting a quarter of the targeted participants and even about 5% of the controls who realized that they were being observed.

We also learn that supervision requires a lot more than having a well-meaning but not very well-trained physician ask a patient to log measurements and food intake. Health coaches seem to make the impact.

Failure rates of 50% have a way of dampening enthusiasm, but it may be best to approach the scourge of obesity by offering treatment to everyone with the expectation that not all will experience greatly enhanced quality of life and longevity. Not everyone will benefit, but these two studies confirm that we do have an underutilized capacity to help more people benefit than we currently do.

The great reset: new danger on the horizon – Amandala

Belize City, Nov. 2, 2020 Most people in Belize are either taken up these days with finding a job/income, with fears of COVID-19, or with anticipation of the General Elections of Nov. 11, 2020. But lurking in the shadows is a much more dangerous foe.

In the past it was called The New World Order, but that has been so discredited, that the wizard behind the curtain had to change the name to The Great Reset. What is this Great Reset?

The Great Reset is a new social contract that ties you to it through an electronic ID linked to your bank account and health records, and a social credit ID that will dictate every facet of your life. While the COVID-19 pandemic is being used as a justification for the Great Reset movement, the agenda has nothing to do with health and everything to do with a long-term plan to monitor and control the world through digital surveillance and artificial intelligence.

The Great Reset and the Fourth Industrial Revolution are rebranded terms for the old New World Order, melded with the trans-humanist movement. Technocracy (which is the new name for Fascism) is an economic system of resource allocation that revolves around computer technology in particular artificial intelligence, digital surveillance, and Big Data (5G) collection and the digitization of industry and government, which in turn allows for the automation of social engineering and social rule, thereby doing away with the need for democratically elected leadership.

While the real plan is to usher in a tech-driven dystopia free of democratic controls, the elites speak of this plan as a way to bring us back into harmony with nature the Green New Deal. Importantly, the pandemic is being used to destroy local economies around the world, which will then allow the World Economic Forum to come in through the IMF and rescue debt-ridden countries through facilitated financial bailouts.

However, the price for this salvation is your personal freedom and liberty. And, again, one of the aspects of the Fascist plan is to eliminate national borders and nationalism in general.

Who are the main actors behind the Great Reset?

Bill Gates and the World Economic Forum, along with the United Nations (which keeps a relatively low profile), appear to be at the heart of the big boys agenda. Gates is also the largest money-bag for the World Health Organization the medical branch of the U.N. Other key partners that play important roles in the implementation of the elites/globalists agenda include foundations such as the Rockefeller Foundation, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Ford Foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, the UN Foundation, and George Soros Open Society Foundation; companies such as: Avanti Communications, a British provider of satellite technology with global connectivity, and 2030 Vision, a partnership of technology giants that is aimed at providing the infrastructure and technology solutions needed to realize the U.N.s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. 2030 Vision is also partnered with Frontier 2030, which is a partnership of organizations under the helm of the World Economic Forum.

These organizations include the major Wall Street bankers/financiers; Google, the No. 1 Big Data collector in the world and a leader in AI services; MasterCard, which is leading the globalist charge to develop digital IDs and banking services, and Salesforce, a global leader in cloud computing, the internet of things and artificial intelligence.

Incidentally, Salesforce is led by Marc Benioff, who is also on the World Economic Forums board of directors, and Professor Klaus Schwab, chairman of the World Economic Forum.

Most Belizeans know little or nothing about the trans-humanist movement, or Human 2.0, which is geared at transcending biology through computer technology. Or, as Dr. Carrie Madej of USA explains in a blog, their goal is to meld human biology with computer technology and artificial intelligence. Two visible proponents of trans-humanism are Ray Kurzweil (director of engineering at Google since 2012) and Elon Musk (founder of SpaceX, Tesla and Neuralink). According to Dr. Madej, today we may be standing at the literal crossroads of trans-humanism, thanks to the fast approaching release of one or more mRNA COVID-19 vaccines.

Many of the COVID 19 vaccines https://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2020/05/22/coronavirus-vaccine-timetable.aspx are not conventional vaccines. Their design is aimed at manipulating your very biology, and therefore have the potential to alter the biology of the entire human race. Conventional vaccines train your body to recognize and respond to the proteins of a particular virus by injecting a small amount of the actual viral protein into your body, thereby triggering an immune response from your body and the development of antibodies. This is not what happens with an mRNA vaccine. The theory behind these vaccines is that when you inject the mRNA into your cells, it will stimulate your cells to manufacture their own viral protein. The mRNA COVID-19 vaccine will be the first of its kind. No mRNA vaccine has ever been licensed before. And, to add insult to injury, theyre forgoing all animal safety testing.

Madej has reviewed the background of certain individuals participating in the race for a COVID-19 vaccine, which include Moderna co-founder Derrick Rossi, a Harvard researcher who successfully reprogrammed stem cells using modified RNA, thus changing the function of the stem cells. Moderna was founded on this concept of being able to modify human biological function through genetic engineering.

The mRNA vaccines are designed to instruct your cells to make the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, the glycoprotein that attaches to the ACE2 receptor of the cell. The idea is that by creating the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, your immune system will mount a response to it and begin producing antibodies to the virus.

However, as we now know, Moderna is having problems, because both the CEO and CFO have, according to the Wall Street Journal, dumped their shares and sold everything, making some $350 million + dollars.

But the biggest insult by the globalists to our intelligence is the censorship of the news about the research done by genetic analysis using the Oak Ridge National Lab supercomputer called the Summit which has revealed an interesting new hypothesis that helps explain the disease progression of COVID-19. A September 1, 2020 Medium article1 by Thomas Smith reviewed the findings of what is now referred to as the Bradykinin hypothesis.

As reported by Smith, the computer crunched data on more than 40,000 genes obtained from 17,000 genetic samples.

Summit is the second-fastest computer in the world, but the process which involved analysing 2.5 billion genetic combinations still took more than a week. When Summit was done, researchers analysed the results. It was, in the words of Dr. Daniel Jacobson, lead researcher and chief scientist for computational systems biology at Oak Ridge, a eureka moment.

Bradykinin is a chemical that helps regulate your blood pressure and is controlled by your renin-angiotensin system (RAS). As explained in the Academic Press book on vitamin D (which has a significant impact on the RAS):

The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is a central regulator of renal and cardiovascular functions. Over-activation of the RAS leads to renal and cardiovascular disorders, such as hypertension and chronic kidney disease, the major risk factors for stroke, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, progressive atherosclerosis, and renal failure.

The Bradykinin hypothesis provides a model that helps explain some of the more unusual symptoms of COVID-19, including its bizarre effects on the cardiovascular system. It also strengthens the hypothesis that vitamin D plays a really important role in the disease.

Your ACE2 receptors are the primary gateways of the virus, as the virus spike protein binds to the ACE2 receptor. As explained2 by Smith:

COVID-19 infection generally
begins when the virus enters the body through ACE2 receptors in the nose The virus then proceeds through the body, entering cells in other places where ACE2 is also present But once Covid-19 has established itself in the body, things start to get really interesting The data Summit analysed shows that COVID-19 isnt content to simply infect cells that already express lots of ACE2 receptors. Instead, it actively hijacks the bodys own systems, tricking it into up-regulating ACE2 receptors in places where theyre usually expressed at low or medium levels, including the lungs.

In this sense, COVID-19 is like a burglar who slips in your unlocked second-floor window and starts to ransack your house. Once inside, though, they dont just take your stuff they also throw open all your doors and windows so their accomplices can rush in and help pillage more efficiently.

The end result is a Bradykinin storm, and according to the researchers, this appears to be an important factor in many of COVID-19s lethal effects, even more so than the Cytokine storms associated with the disease. As Bradykinin accumulates, the more serious COVID-19 symptoms appear. Mounting clinical data suggest COVID-19 is actually primarily a vascular disease rather than a respiratory one, and runaway Bradykinin build-up help explain this.

The good news is that since Bradykinin storms are to blame, there are a number of already existing drugs (Icatibant, Danazol, Stanozolol) that can help prevent Bradykinin storms, and there are many other safe, inexpensive strategies like nebulized peroxide, ozone, molecular hydrogen, steroids, exogenous ketones, and Quercetin with zinc, vitamin D, and high-dose vitamin C.

And there are two reports by the American CDC. One says that 70.6% of COVID-19 patients always wore a mask3. The other says only 6% of all COVID-19 deaths were due ONLY to coronavirus4. And yet another said that the common seasonal flu caused more deaths than COVID-19.

So, if COVID-19 deaths are not what is being reported by the mass media, if the SAR CoV-2 virus is not as deadly to humans, then why the lockdowns, the face masks, the social distancing, the destruction of the way we live, of our economies? Why? Why?

But not all men are blind. On Oct 25, 2020, the Archbishop of Ulpiana, former Apostolic Nuncio to the United States of America, Carlo Maria Vigano, wrote an open letter (which over 100 million Americans have read) to President Donald Trump. The letter is long and is all over the internet. This is some of it:

at this hour in which the fate of the whole world is being threatened by a global conspiracy against God and humanityin the midst of the silence of both civil and religious authoritiesthis historical moment sees the forces of Evil aligned in a battle against the children of Lightwe see heads of nations and religious leaders pandering to this suicide of Western culture and its Christian soul, while the fundamental rights of citizens and believers are denied in the name of a health emergency that is revealing itself more and more fully as instrumental to the establishment of an inhuman faceless tyranny.

A global plan called the Great Reset is underway. Its architect is a global lite that wants to subdue all of humanity, imposing coercive measures with which to drastically limit individual freedoms and those of entire populations Behind the world leaders who are the accomplices and executors of this infernal project, there are unscrupulous characters who finance the World Economic Forum and Event 201, promoting their agenda.

The purpose of the Great Reset is the imposition of a health dictatorship aiming at the imposition of liberticidal measures, hidden behind tempting promises of ensuring a universal income and cancelling individual debt. The price of these concessions from the International Monetary Fund will be the renunciation of private property and adherence to a program of vaccination against Covid-19 and Covid-21 promoted by Bill Gates with the collaboration of the main pharmaceutical groups. Beyond the enormous economic interests that motivate the promoters of the Great Reset, the imposition of the vaccination will be accompanied by the requirement of a health passport and a digital ID, with the consequent contact tracing of the population of the entire world. Those who do not accept these measures will be confined in detention camps or placed under house arrest, and all their assets will be confiscated.

Mr President, I imagine that you are already aware that in some countries the Great Reset will be activated between the end of this year and the first trimester of 2021. For this purpose, further lockdowns are planned, which will be officially justified by a supposed second and third wave of the pandemic. But this world, Mr. President, includes people, affections, institutions, faith, culture, traditions, and ideals: people and values that do not act like automatons, who do not obey like machines, because they are endowed with a soul and a heart, because they are tied together by a spiritual bond that draws its strength from above, from that God that our adversaries want to challenge, just as Lucifer did at the beginning of time with his non serviam.

Until a few months ago, it was easy to smear as conspiracy theorists those who denounced these terrible plans, which we now see being carried out down to the smallest detail. No one, up until last February, would ever have thought that, in all of our cities, citizens would be arrested simply for wanting to walk down the street, to breathe, to want to keep their business open, to want to go to church on Sunday. Yet, now it is happening all over the world.

Mr. President, you have clearly stated that you want to defend the nation One Nation under God, fundamental liberties, and non-negotiable values that are denied and fought against today. It is you, dear President, who are the one who opposes the deep state, the final assault of the children of darkness.

For this reason, it is necessary that all people of goodwill be persuaded of the epochal importance of the imminent election Your adversary is also our adversary: it is the Enemy of the human race, He who is a murderer from the beginning (Jn 8:44).

And yet, in the midst of this bleak picture, this apparently unstoppable advance of the Invisible Enemy, an element of hope emerges. The adversary does not know how to love, and it does not understand that it is not enough to assure a universal income or to cancel mortgages in order to subjugate the masses and convince them to be branded like cattle. This people, which for too long has endured the abuses of a hateful and tyrannical power, is rediscovering that it has a soul; it is understanding that it is not willing to exchange its freedom for the homogenization and cancellation of its identity; it is beginning to understand the value of familial and social ties, of the bonds of faith and culture that unite honest people.

This Great Reset is destined to fail because those who planned it do not understand that there are still people ready to take to the streets to defend their rights, to protect their loved ones, to give a future to their children and grandchildren. The levelling inhumanity of the globalist project will shatter miserably in the face of the firm and courageous. To be an instrument of Divine Providence is a great responsibility, for which you will certainly receive all the graces of state that you need, since they are being fervently implored for you by the many people who support you with their prayers.

Meanwhile, here in Belize, we kill our so-called COVID-19 patients. Ventilators will kill you. Doctors of Belize, read the report of the US Oak Ridge National Lab on COVID-19. NO one needs to die anymore from COVID-19. US President Trump, who is 74 years old, was cured after 3 days of COVID-19.

And by the time you read this article, the world will know who won the elections in the United States.

Curfew on Nov. 11, election night in Belize, is part of the Globalist agenda. Let the people cel
ebrate their victory. Open the churches, the schools, the bars; open the society. Send the globalist/elites back to Hell with Lucifer.
