An unknown person incurred a transaction fee of more than $80,000 or (3.49079570 bitcoins) when transferring bitcoin worth $1.16. According to Blockchain.com, the December 19 transaction, which is included in block 662052, had an input of 3.49084570 bitcoin and an output of 0.00005000 bitcoin.

As one report explains, the unusually high fee may have been the result of an error made by the bitcoin user when manually constructing the transaction details. However, as Alex Lebed the head of development at Xsigma Defi tells news.Bitcoin.com, this may have happened because certain wallets allow you to spend unlimited transaction fees in order to boost your transaction with the miners.

Emphasizing that this is technically possible, Lebed explains this practice is done to fund the transaction in a mining pool of your choice, making it a priority. Lebed then concludes:

Perhaps someone was testing the network. Its unlikely that someone made the transaction by an accident, but its possible. In my opinion, it might have been a test.

Meanwhile, the large fee paid by the unknown person was incurred one day after the average transaction fee on the Bitcoin network topped $11.91. Data from Bitinfocharts shows that transaction fees on the network surpassed the $10 mark for the first time since November 5 when they peaked at $12.05.

However, after the brief surge, transaction fees had dropped to $6.15 by December 20. Nevertheless, transaction fees on the network remain higher than they were at the start of the year. On January 1, the average fee on the Bitcoin network was $0.33 and for the next four months, it remained below $1.

Since the beginning of May 2020, BTC network fees surpassed the one dollar level and they have largely stayed above that level since then.

A crewless boat is recreating the Mayflower’s 400-year-old journey, with the help of artificial intelligence – CBS News

The Mayflower carried some of the first European settlers across the Atlantic Ocean to North America, 400 years ago this year.

To commemorate the anniversary, another vessel is recreating that voyage, with the help of artificial intelligence.

"We don't know how it's going to go. Is it going to make it across the Atlantic?" software engineer and emerging technology specialist Rosie Lickorish told CBS News' Roxana Saberi. "Fingers crossed that it does have a successful first voyage."

The vessel, docked in the harbor of Plymouth, England, will rely on the latest navigation technology when it sets out to sea but it won't be carrying a crew or captain.

"We've got all sorts of cameras We've got global positioning systems on either side," robotics expert Brett Phaneuf said.

What it won't have, he said, is "people space."

Instead the ship will be guided by artificial intelligence designed by IBM.

Phaneuf explained how the technology is supposed to work.

"It looks at its own cameras like eyes, it looks at the radar, it looks at all sorts of other sensors," he said. "Then it charts its own course and it can deal with unique situations without any human input."

Those situations include encountering other ships during the voyage something software engineer Ollie Thompson is working hard to train the ship's programming to recognize using more than a million different images.

"We're simulating what she's seeing," he said of the boat.

Programmers are also setting the ship's destination to Plymouth, Massachusetts to retrace the Mayflower's four centuries-old passage.

It took the wooden merchant ship 66 days to transport dozens of pilgrims across the Atlantic.

A replica sailed from England to Massachusetts in the 1950s, and is still docked there today.

But Phenauf, who grew up near Plymouth, Massachusetts, wanted to mark the Mayflower's famous past by looking ahead instead.

"I thought, well, we should build a ship that speaks to the next 400 years. What the marine enterprise will look like then, as opposed to what it looked like 400 years ago," he said.

An international team turned his vision into the solar-and-wind-powered Mayflower autonomous ship. Its mission is to learn more about Earth's oceans by gathering data on plastic pollution, warming waters and their effects on marine life.

Software developer Rosie Likorish said the autonomous ship is a more cost-effective way to perform the research.

"It's very expensive at the moment for scientists actually go out on these research missions," she said. "So having autonomous vessels like the Mayflower Autonomous Ship is a really important step and kind of actually enabling us to go out to these dangerous places and learn a lot more."

In addition to cost-saving, not having a crew means the size of the vessel can be compact, and there are no concerns over someone getting sick or hurt.

Brett Phenauf said his biggest worry would be if something broke.

If the boat capsized, the team plans to track it via satellite and salvage it.

And if the unknown voyage succeeds, Phenauf says it would commemorate history while charting a new path.

He said, "I want people to look back on this 400 years from now and think about how different this was from what other people were doing."

Earlier this year, two partners at prominent venture-capital firm Andreessen Horowitz published an interesting blog post about artificial intelligence (A.I.). Specifically, is A.I. (and by extension, machine learning) capable of powering a sustainable business? Or is the tech industry infatuated with a technology thats just a lot of empty hype?

Its a worthy question as we close out 2020, considering how much money and resources companies are pouring into all things A.I.-related (often despite budget cutbacks related to the COVID-19 pandemic). Martin Casado and Matt Bornstein, the partners in question, conclude that A.I. is indeed viablebut that A.I.-centric businesses cant operate like traditional software firms.

Specifically, A.I. companies have lower gross margins (dueto the need for lots of expensive and talented humans, as well asinfrastructure expenses), scaling challenges (due to edge cases), and weakerdefensive moats (because of more A.I. tools and apps becoming commoditized,among other issues).

Traininga single A.I. model can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars(ormore) incomputeresources, they wrote. Whileits tempting to treat this as a one-time cost, retraining is increasinglyrecognized as an ongoing cost, since the data that feeds AI models tends tochange over time (a phenomenon known as data drift).

If the A.I. model is training on something storage-intensive like video, things get even worse. Add on top of that the cost of humans to design and wrangle the models, and you can see how any hoped-for profits from an A.I. project could quickly evaporate.

The entire Andreessen Horowitz posting is worth reading, especially if youre debating whether to jump aboard an artificial intelligence startup. Amidst all the discussions of cloud-infrastructure costs and model complexity, though, one thing stands out: the overwhelming presence of human beings within A.I. systems that are supposedly becoming more and more automated.

Its not just a question of employing people who can build and continually maintain models. For many tasks, especially those requiring greater cognitive reasoning, humans are often plugged into A.I. systems in real time, the posting added. Social media companies, for example, employ thousands of human reviewers to augment A.I.-based moderation systems. Many autonomous vehicle systems include remote human operators, and most A.I.-based medical devices interface with physicians as joint decision makers.

And theres no end in sight to intervention: Many problemslike self-driving carsare too complex to be fully automated with current-generation A.I. techniques. Issues of safety, fairness, and trust also demand meaningful human oversighta fact likely to be enshrined in A.I. regulations currently under development in theUS,EU, and elsewhere.

Weve seen these sorts of issues cropping up already among companies with artificial intelligence products. A few years ago, for example, Google rolled out Duplex, its automated voice assistant, which it predicted would revolutionize the process of making reservations and dealing with customer service. However, journalists quickly demonstrated there were relatively straightforward ways to stump Duplex. As of mid-2019, 25 percent of Google Duplex calls were supposedly made by human operators as opposed to an A.I.

Now consider all the A.I.-centric (or A.I. hopeful, for those still trying to develop an application) businesses that dont have Googles talent or resources. The dream of building an artificial intelligence model thats fully capable of performing its assigned task without any sort of human interventionwell, thats likely years away.

Andreessen Horowitz isnt the first firm to warn about thisissue. In 2019, ArvindKrishna, IBMs senior vice president of cloud and cognitive software, warnedthat A.I. initiatives could implode once companies realize how much effort istruly necessary to prep the related data. You run out of patience along theway, because you spend your first year just collecting and cleansing thedata,he told the audience at The Wall Street Journals Future ofEverything Festival,according to the newspaper.

Ina 2018 blog posting,A.I. researcher Filip Piekniewski listed all the ways in which theartificial intelligencehype wasnt matching withreality, includinga lack of progress in Googles DeepMind. Two years later, its clear thatA.I. is still grinding forward as a discipline, consuming lots of cash andtalent as companies hope for incremental advances.

But at least artificial intelligence researchers are still making lots of cash. And, despite these challenges, keep in mind that automation is still a long-term risk to many professions.

Ultimately, A.I. and machine learning technologies that help companies handle customer personalization and communication, data analytics and processing, and a host of other applications will continue to grow, even if it takes longer than expected to achieve seamless automation. An IDC report found three-quarters of commercial enterprise applications could lean on A.I. by next year alone, while an Analytics Insight report projects more than 20 million available jobs inartificial intelligenceby 2023.

Reactive machines are the most basic types of AI systems that perceive the world directly and act on what it sees. The computer is purely reactive, and neither has to form memory nor to use past experience. AI researcher Rodney Brooks argued in a seminal paper that we should only build this kind of AI. For example, Deep Blue, IBMs chess-playing supercomputer that made a breakthrough by beating grandmaster Garry Kasparov in 1997 was a reactive machine. It did not take any pre-applied datasets or look for previous matches. All it knows was how to play the game and conditions. The computer moved chess coins based on its real-time intuition and won the game.

Limited memory machines are ditto of reactive machines added with historical data which will help them take decisions. Almost all the machines that we use today are limited memory machines, which are powered by datasets. AI systems use deep learning and are trained by large volumes of data that they store in their memory to form a reference model for solving future problems. For example, an image recognition AI is trained to determine and label certain things like a cat or a dog from a picture. It knows how a cat or a dog looks from the previously trained datasets. Henceforth, it opts out the matching images.

As the name sounds, the theory of mind machines represents an advanced class of technology and exists only as a concept. This kind of AI requires a thorough understanding of peoples and things feelings and behaviour within an environment. Theory of minds is a critical technological improvement that sorts peoples emotions, sentiments and thoughts. Even though many improvements are made to reach this stage of AI, it is not fully completed. A real-world example of the theory of mind is Kismet, designed in the late 1990s. Kismet can mimic human emotions and recognise them.

Self-aware AI is the exact thing that is portrayed in AI-movies. The critical AI robots that think on their own and destroy humans are the ideology-driven from self-aware AI. However, we cant predict that all might go bad. There are also chances that the futuristic AI might go hand-in-hand with humans. Even though it is impossible for now, self-aware AI is on the bucket list for many scientists. Tech personalities like Elon Musk and Stephen Hawkings have consistently warned us about the evolution of AI which could reach the self-aware stage.

Artificial Narrow Intelligence, also known as week AI is one of the most frequently experienced types of AI. It is something that the tech world has accomplished. Every AI machine we use and see today is from this field, which operates under a limited set of constraints. For example, voice recognition AI is used to predict peoples voice based on the dataset it is trained with. The deep learning model constitutes the Limited Memory type and similar tasks could be a case of Reactive Machines.

Artificial General Intelligence, also known as strong AI allows a machine to apply knowledge and skills in different contexts. This more closely mirrors human intelligence by providing opportunities for autonomous learning and problem-solving. In other words, AGI can successfully perform any intellectual task that a human being can. This is thesort of AI that sci-fi movies portray.

Artificial Super Intelligenceis something more advanced than strong AI which could end the human race. They will not only replicate the multi-faceted intelligence of human beings but will be exceedingly better at everything. The ASI will be designed with better memory, faster data processing and analysis, and decision-making capabilities.

Artificial intelligence will go mainstream in 2021 The Manila Times – The Manila Times

My last column for 2019 was titled Artificial intelligence will be more than just talk in 2020. As I bid goodbye to 2020, allow me to close the year with the prediction that we would see AI go mainstream in 2021. In his December 21 Forbes website article, titled Why Covid Will Make AI Go Mainstream In 2021, data scientist Ganes Kesari predicts AI will transform 2021 by accelerating pharmaceutical drug discovery beyond Covid-19. He says the face of telecommuting would change, and that AI would transform edge computing and make devices around us truly intelligent.

A recent article on the Wiley Online Library website, titled How artificial intelligence may help the Covid-19 pandemic: Pitfalls and lessons for the future by Yashpal Singh Malik, et al., presents an overview of the prospective applications of the AI model systems in healthcare settings during the Covid-19 pandemic. In it, the authors highlighted the uses of AI-based approaches in healthcare during the pandemic where AI-based technologies and methods were deployed in modelling the virus spread and optimal utilization of resources. The protein folding problem, a grand challenge of biology that had puzzled scientists for 50 years, was solved through AlphaFold, an AI program developed by Googles DeepMind. Its a big deal for scientists developing a new drug because it helps them predict the proteins shape that will help come up with a molecule that could bind to it, fitting into it to alter its behavior. AI also helped fast-track the coronavirus vaccine, cutting development to 10 months instead of years or decades. Malik and his co-authors agreed that AI-based tools may not totally replace human brain in terms of observations made by virologists, epidemiologists or clinicians; however, the value of AI will play a significant and complementary role by reducing the burden on each stakeholder.

Aside from drug discovery and development, Kesari predicts AI would transform telecommuting and unlock the future of work. Ninety-three percent of respondents in a McKinsey & Company global survey of executives reported an increase in remote working and/or collaboration, with over half of them believing that the shift to remote work would continue. Most of us are into video conferencing applications, but the shift from virtual meetings to virtual workspaces would become more apparent in 2021. Merging mixed reality, 5G, and AI will fuel this trend. I observed this transformation when I was dabbling with the Productivity and collaboration apps in Oculus Quest 2, such as Immersed, vSpatial and Spatial. Facebook launched Oculus for Business, an all-in-one enterprise platform to support companies deploying virtual reality (VR) in the workplace. The possibility of a VR office is not just about holding meetings. Collaborating and socializing in the virtual space will take place. For example, Spatial empowers remote team member, each represented by a photorealistic 3D avatar, to meet and collaborate in virtual project rooms. Soon, physical presence of companies will be replicated in an immersive virtual reality.

In 2021 we will see AI, machine learning, and Internet of Things (IoT) define and shape our lives and behaviors, a phenomenon that will continue for many years to come, says Manoj Choudhary, CTO at Jitterbit. Like Kesari, Choudhary thinks the real star that companies will turn to will be the enabling technologies, such as cloud and edge computing. Forrester predicts that 2021 would be the year when edge computing would take off, which would continue to dominate because of their ability to process and manage all the data that fuels AI, machine learning, and IoT. High-speed chips from Intel and Nvidia, and the rollout of 5G will drive this change. Edge computing will eat into the public clouds growth by shaving five percentage points off cloud growth next year.

A prediction at InsideBigData says most consumers would continue to be skeptical of AI. Many dont understand it or even realize theyre using AI-powered services for free Facebook, Google, TikTok, etc. People should make the effort to understanding the pros and cons in surrendering personal data records to the big data companies. The conversation about AI belongs to everyone, not just people working in the AI ecosystem.

The owner of a New Haven-based software company is hoping his holiday creation of an elf with artificial intelligence will lead to wider discussion of pros and cons of the technology.

East Rock Software Founder Stephen Robinson said the elfs brain, which allows it to reply to questions, comes from GPT-3, an algorithm developed by a San Francisco-based company, Open AI. A tiny credit card sized computer processes the questions that are being asked of the elf into text that can be understood by GPT-3, which generates a response.

Robinson said he created the elf as a small way to step people into conversations about AI.

I thought it could be a great way for people to see what the technology is, to see what it can do and what its limitations are, Robinson said. Its important for society to begin dialoguing about this and not just have technologists driving the conversation.

Researchers from the University of Delaware found that a majority of those who participated in a recent survey are wary about how artificial intelligence is used. The survey, which was released in August, found that 70 percent of survey respondents favored some kind of government regulation regarding artificial intelligence.

Common fears that people have regarding the use of artificial intelligence are it might make machines smarter than humans, Robinson said.

But new technology has made people worried from the Luddites on forward, Robinson said.

Luddites were English workers in the 19th century who objected to new technologies, according to history.com. The term has come to be used in reference to individuals who fear changes new technologies will bring.

Robinson said artificial intelligence can be beneficial in helping humans make better use of their time.

Theres tons of time that is really wasted, he said. We are in a world where were drowning in information and a lot of it is badly structured. Thats all stuff a computer should be dealing with.

Robinson was raised in England and got a bachelors degree in engineering and a doctorate in autonomous mobile robotic control from the University of Durham in that country. He came to New Haven in 1997 to do post-doctorate degree work at Yale University.

While at Yale in 2000, Robinson won $60,000 in a business plan competition at the school. Winning the competition led him to rethink what he wanted to do with his life.

I thought there was more that could be done in the start-up space than could be done writing academic scholarly papers for the rest of my career, he said.

Robinson founded East Rock Software in 2012. He said the company provides software development services to help businesses track and analyze data.

Robinson said the companys clients include businesses in the machine learning and data science fields.

Adam Pliska, CEO of the World Poker Tour, said of the move to virtual poker: The World Poker Tour looks forward to extending its online poker partnerships on ClubWPT with The NASCAR Foundation for this event. Philanthropy is top of mind at the WPT, and the WPT Foundation along with its $27 million raised since 2012, is partnering with The NASCAR Foundation to raise awareness for a great cause and provide a safe environment to play.

The six player final table, to be held at a later date, is expected to include two NASCAR drivers, one poker pro, one celebrity and two qualifiers.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has long been discussed in the poker world, for many spelling the eventual death knell of the game, for others opening up a wide new world of understanding and knowledge.

A new AI bot, known as ReBel and designed by Facebook, has broken new ground with the ability to play both poker and chess two games which are considered widely divergent when it comes to computers learning them.

Chess, a game of perfect information, recently saw AlphaZero conquer all machines that came before it after teaching itself to play from scratch and mastering the game within mere hours.

Poker, however, as a game of imperfect information has proved much more difficult for a machine to master, although certain versions have seen the bots outplay humans on recent years.

ReBel is set to prove that an AI bot can master both fields, already showing expertise in HUNL (Heads-Up No Limit Holdem) and a game known as Liars Dice.

The algorithm was described by Facebook as as a major step toward developing universal techniques for multiagent interactions, and thus as a step toward complex real-world applications like fraud detection and cybersecurity.

Continuing the AI theme, Tuomas Sandholm, the man behind the poker-playing AI bot Pluribus, has been awarded the 2021 Robert S. Engelmore Memorial Lecture Award from the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) in recognition of his AI research and his service to the AI community.

Sandholm, along with his student at Carnegie Mellon University, Noam Brown, devised the poker bots Claudico, Libratus and Pluribus.

Though a team of pros, including Doug Polk, won against Claudico, the later version called Libratus won $1.7million from four strong poker pros in the rematch.

Sandholms AI then moved on from Heads-Up play to win at 6-max, the Pluribus version defeating pros including Chris Jesus Ferguson and Darren Elias.

Poker is only a small part of the AIs brief, however, and Sandholms award cites him for outstanding research contributions in AI, its application to electronic marketplaces, his highly original use of AI in strategic multi-player games such as poker and the application of AI to optimize transplant organ exchanges.

Artificial intelligence not only assists people with physical disabilities but is also helping people struggling with learning problems and mental health issues. E.g., Microsofts Windows Hello uses biometric login, i.e., fingerprint, face, or iris, which can work for people with physical disabilities or those with dyslexia who might struggle to remember passwords. AI chatbots like Woebot and Wysa are ensuring the availability of consultation for mental health woes, beyond the therapist hours 24/7.

Meanwhile, people suffering from epilepsy can have seizures from blinking lights and animations. This is why accessiBe, a web accessibility platform enables epileptic users to disable various types of animation, such as GIFs and videos so that they can browse the web without complications. Voiceittis an app for people with speech impediments, including both those who need it temporarily after strokes and brain injuries, and those with more long-term conditions like cerebral palsy, Parkinsons, and Downs syndrome. The app uses machine learning to pick up speakers unique speech patterns, recognize any mispronunciations, and rectify them before creating an audio or text output. Livio AI, developed by Starkey,an AI medical device company, is a hearing aid that will enhance the hearing experience by quieting all the external noise from the environment and tracking health-related data to enable patients to seek help during emergencies.

Thanks to artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles also promise toprovide people with disabilities more mobilitythan ever before. Once the self-driving vehicles are fully integrated into society, they can be a resourceful asset for people with different disabilities, including motor impairment. These people would no longer be dependent on other people or public transport.

Further, most of the existing testing methods are highly ineffective at pinpointing learning disabilities like dyslexia or dyscalculia. Artificial Intelligence can help teachers and healthcare professionals diagnose early signs of such conditions and help the students accordingly. For instance, Australian startup Dystechhas developed a screening app for early detection of such learning disorders.

Built on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Dystech employs artificial intelligence and machine learning to screen test if the user has dyslexia or dysgraphia. For the former, the app uses datasets of audio recording from both dyslexic and non-dyslexic adults and children to train the AI and relies on users reading aloud words that appear on the screen while being recorded using their smart device during assessment . And for dysgraphia it uses a photo of a handwritten text for screening. After subjected to a 10-minute screening test, app informs users about their likelihood of having dyslexia or dysgraphia.

Some who pride themselves on their ability to make a playlist have tirelessly continued to curate their Spotify brands in 2020 in order to have a flashy "Spotify Wrapped" to share on Instagram by the year's end.

Even if you tried, according to the bot, you probably failed.

Whether you think you've put together a collection that Beyonc would approve of or you know your profile consists of a very niche type of sound, The Pudding has you covered.

They created an A.I. bot to help you answer the age-old question: How bad is your Spotify?

Find out below how to take the test and to see some of the internet's funniest responses.

Everyone has a friend or a loved one who thinks his or her Spotify is the pinnacle of good taste. The "How Bad Is Your Spotify" test is for them.

The test was created by Matt Daniels and Mike Lacher for The Pudding, which "is a digital publication that explains ideas debated in culture with visual essays."

Those who click on the quiz will be met with the following message: "Our sophisticated A.I. judges your awful taste in music."

Those who think that their playlists are immune from criticism may not like what the bot tells them. The purpose of the test is to poke fun at people who take their Spotify brands seriously.

Once you do decide to find out how bad your Spotify is, you'll have to log in to your account. The A.I. bot will then dissect your listening patterns and it will cater an insult based on what kind of music you gravitate towards.

The results tell users what tracks they "listen to too much" and what creators they stan "to an uncomfortable extent."

Participants will ultimately receive a percentage score for how bad / basic their Spotify account is. To add insult to injury, the bot will also tell you if you're stuck in a particular genre or era.

As expected, Twitter users have gleefully responded to the prospect of sharing their "How Bad Is Your Spotify" results ... both the fake and the real ones.

The content is *chef's kiss* perfection, and it makes taking the test worthwhile.

Because honestly, did you even really take the quiz if you didn't share it online?

This person was roasted for listening to a lot of rap music, and the A.I. bot even asked him if he was OK. If that wasn't enough, the user was also told that his music taste was stuck in the 2010s.

Unsurprisingly, Swifties were given a lot of heat by the A.I.

Those who find themselves a bit hurt by what the A.I. had to say about their music tastes should be comforted by the fact that they're in good company. The bot is shady toward everyone's lists.

A group of lawmakers recently touted the Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Government Act, which was included in the must-pass government funding deal and set to become law.

Sens. Brian Schatz (D-HI), Cory Gardner (R-CO), Rob Portman (R-OH), Gary Peters (D-MI), and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said the legislation ensures the use of AI across the federal government is effective, ethical, and accountable by providing resources and guidance to federal agencies.

We need to get smart on AI if we want to have a competitive edge against the rest of the world in the next decade, Schatz, ranking member of the Senate Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation and the Internet, said. That starts with making sure the federal government is using AI technology ethically and effectively. With our bill set to become law, we will now be able to coordinate AI strategy so that all federal agencies can take full advantage of these new technologies and do so in a responsible way.

The Acts provisions include expanding an office within the General Services Administration to provide technical expertise to relevant government agencies; conducting forward-looking research on federal AI policy; promoting domestic competitiveness through agency and industry cooperation; establishing an advisory board to address AI policy opportunities and challenges for executive agencies; and directing the Office of Management and Budget to establish a strategy for investing and using AI as part of the federal data strategy.

Artificial intelligence is an emerging frontier, and the United States has a responsibility to ensure our government is using this technology ethically and efficiently, Peters, ranking member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and a founding member of the Senate Artificial Intelligence Caucus, said. I am thrilled this bipartisan measure will become law so government employees and agencies can utilize this innovative technology.

Grey’s Anatomy: The 5 Most (& 5 Least) Realistic Storylines – Screen Rant

While much of the doctors' lives are realistic on Grey's Anatomy, this medical drama has a ton of over-the-top plotlines taking place in the hospital.

Fans ofGrey's Anatomyinvest in the relationships and personal problems that the main characters deal with in each episode, but the series is definitely known for its wild and surprising episodes. While the hospital setting is realistic in some ways, as the doctors do work long hours, care about their patients, and try to innovate, heal, and save, there are some things that seem a little over the top.

Fromthe confusing Jackson/April romanceto some of the season finales, there are some parts ofGrey's Anatomy that don't always add up. While many plotlines make sense, others don't seem like they could occur IRL.

Meredith doesn't know that Derek has a wife when they first start seeing each other in season 1. But that's not her main problem with their budding relationship.

Meredithwants to hide the fact that they're together as she doesn't want the others at the hospital to think anything problematic is going on. Even though they're both adults and it would probably be fine, it makes sense that Meredith would have those feelings, as she cares about her career andshe wants to be respected as a doctor.

The second season episodes "It's the End of the World" and "As We Know It" are famous toGrey's Anatomyfans, as this storyline involves a patient with a bomb in their chest.

Fans enjoyed watching these episodes as they featured Kyle Chandler, the beloved actor known for playing Coach Taylor on Friday Night Lights, a moving show in its own right. But despitehow juicy and entertaining this storyline is, it doesn't feel realistic. Instead, it feels very over-the-top and intense.

Owen and Cristina have a long-term romance that is pretty heartbreaking to watch. They really love each other but have many obstacles to cross, from Owen's PTSD to the fact that he wants to start a family and she doesn't want children.

The fact thatthe trauma and tragedy that Owen has seen in the past affects his current love life is very realistic. This happens to so many people, and it's never a short and easy road to recovery.Even if viewers haven't had this exact same experience,this is something everyone can sympathize with.

At the end of season 12, Alex punches DeLuca and hurts himvery badly, as he thinks that something is going on between DeLuca and Jo.

Alex is more sensitive than fans originally think and so it doesn't make much sense for him to put his career and life at risk like this. He has grown up a lot and isn't one to jump to conclusions anymore, so it seems odd that he would get so angry without even knowing the true story. This isn't a very realistic storyline and even veers into melodrama.

Losing a child is devastating and it can also take its toll on a marriage. It makes a lot of sense that Jackson and April's relationship would become strained after they lose their baby Samuel, and it's not something that they can get past and move on from so easily.

While there are many melodramatic moments onGrey's Anatomy, especially involving the main couples, this is one that paints a logical picture of what could really happen in a situation like this.

After meeting him because he's a patient at the hospital, Izzie falls for Denny and then watches him die. She even thinks that she's becoming intimate with his ghost. This will forever be known as one of the wildest things to happen onGrey's Anatomy.

While this love story could be viewed as sweeping and epic, this is definitely an unrealistic storyline. It's hard to picture another character on the show believing this, and while Izzie is grieving and having a difficult time, it's just not possible for this to really happen.

Meredith has a tragic life, no doubt about it, and things get even worse for her in the 17th and current season when she gets COVID-19.

In a recent episode, Meredith's condition worsens and she is hospitalized. Meredith even thinks that she sees her late husband and love of her life, Derek, and it's a very emotional bunch of episodes. This is definitely one of the more realistic storylines thatGrey's Anatomyhas done, since this is a real battle that many people have faced, and the pandemic has affected everyone around the world in 2020.

When Alex says goodbye toGrey's Anatomyin season 16, he surprises viewers by going to live with Izzie and their twins.

While these two did have a dramatic love story earlier on in the show, it doesn't make much sense for Alex to leave Jo, whom he supposedly loves and even married, for a woman he let go years earlier. It also seems like if Izzie really was raising Alex's kids, wouldn't he have known? Wouldn't viewers have learned about it sooner? Thisfeels like a strange and unrealistic storyline.

There are many characters who could have datedand there are also some people who tried but found that it just wouldn't work out.

Izzie and George are close friends from the start and they try dating, but realize that they're better off staying friends. This is realistic as many people develop crushes on a good friend, classmate, or co-worker, and then it becomes clear that things become too messy once they attempt a romance.

Before leaving the show, Stephanie has a pretty wild storyline: she gets caught in a fire in the season 13 finale "Ring Of Fire."

One of the patients, who turns out to be a rapist, has kidnapped Stephanie and a young girl, and she manages to help the girl get away after he lights the stairwell on fire. One of these storylines would have been enough, but the fact that Stephanie is running away from a rapist, saving a kid, and not dying in a fire? This becomes a super unrealistic episode and it's just too much to take in.

Anatomy of an Analyst: Bill Walton – Barrett Sports Media

What did he say? Huh?

To say this analyst has a unique style may be the understatement of all understatements. Bill Walton is unlike anyone else. He certainly is one of a kind with analysis that sometimes is from out of left field. Its kind of what makes him as popular as he is. Even people who dont necessarily like him, cant help but watch because of what he might say. Its remarkable really. Walton truly is an original.

Before he got into the TV game, he was a standout high school basketball player in the San Diego area. From there hed go on to UCLA where he became part of college basketball history. Walton, under Coach John Wooden, won 2 national championships and was part of a program that won 88 consecutive games. That included two seasons with a 30-0 record. After UCLA, Walton was taken with the first overall pick in the 1974 NBA draft by the Portland Trailblazers. His first two seasons were marred by foot injuries, but he would continue to play. In 1977 his Blazers won the NBA title in 6 games over the 76ers. Walton eventually landed in his home town, signing as a free agent with the then, San Diego Clippers, then it was on to the Celtics. In Boston he was part of a team that won the NBA Title over the Rockets. Walton would eventually retire as a player after a comeback attempt in 1990. He was inducted into Basketballs Hall of Fame in 1993.

FROM THE COURT TO COURTSIDE

It wasnt a slam dunk that Walton would get into the broadcasting arena. He had a stuttering problem that he was able to overcome at age 28 with the help of legendary NBA announcer Marty Glickman. Before that he told stories about how he wouldnt speak to anybody and that he was incredibly shy. Not the case anymore.

Walton embarked on his successful and sometimes controversial career as an analyst with CBS in 1990. Hed work NBA games and the NCAA Tournament. From there hed move to NBC to call NBA games, normally alongside Steve Snapper Jones. They provided a good counter balance and were entertaining to watch. After NBC it was on to ABC/ESPN in 2002. Hed stay until 2009 when he left as a result of back problems from his playing days at UCLA. He came back on the national stage when ESPN and the Pac-12 Network announced Walton would return to full-time broadcasting as a game analyst. Hes been with the ESPN family ever since.

STYLE, STREAMS OF CONSCIOUSNESS AND ANTICS

Waltons style is sort of fly by the seat of your pants or t-shirt sometimes. Im not saying he isnt knowledgeable about basketball, because he is, but sometimes it gets lost in the shuffle. Walton is definitely entertaining and he doesnt seem to let the game get in the way of sharing whatever may pop into his head at any moment. You want examples? There are far too many to quote individually, so here are a few.

In February 2019, working with Dave Pasch, there was a birthday to celebrate. The duo was given cupcakes with a single candle on them. Walton was dared to eat the pastry, candle (lit) and all. He obliged. Seriously? Pasch lost it and Walton threatened to face plant the cupcake on Pasch.

Back in 2017, the Grateful Dead follower and tie dye shirt wearer, somebody gave Walton a new shirt during the game and broadcast. He put it on in the middle of the telecast. A sight that few wanted to see, but well, we couldnt look away.

Also, in 2017, we got a glimpse into how the mind of Walton works. Streams of endless segues about all things, starting with basketball then going off the tracks. He was calling a Michigan State game when this happened.

Michigan State hasnt even needed Miles Bridges, who is not, Im told, related to Lloyd or Beau or Bill, the Bridge School, the Bridge Benefit Concert, the St. Johns Bridge, or the Golden Gate Bridge. I love bridges, Walton said. The bridge is the ultimate tool, because it allows you to get some place you cant get, on your own.

Waltons wit even extended to his own family. Back in the day when calling a game featuring Arizona, it was pointed out that Luke Walton, Bills son, was coming into the game. To paraphrase the announcer said something to the effect you know a little something about him dont you Bill?. Walton fired back, yeah, hes a 68 forward from the University of Arizona.

THE BASEBALL GAME

What do you get when you put Bill Walton, a man who thinks so far out of the box, into a baseball broadcast booth? Depending on your perspective, the answer could be chaos, hilarity, stupidity or complete and total enjoyment.

It happened August 16, 2019. The Chicago White Sox were in Anaheim to play the Angels. The regular analyst, Steve Stone, was off for the series. Jason Benetti who is employed by the White Sox and ESPN suggested that Walton be one of the guest analysts. It came about when Benetti and Walton were working together at the Maui Invitational. Benetti threw it out to him and the hall of fame basketball player accepted.

What followed was the general craziness you might expect from Walton. Heres some random quotes from that August evening.

I remember talking to Benetti for a past column about the game and asking him if he had a blueprint as to how things would go.

The blueprint for Bill Walton is there is no blueprint. I mean if you try and build any specific house on that lot it will be haunted. The doors will swing open and start to creak. The rattling of the China in the cabinet will begin at about one in the morning, when you know, no one is down there (laughs)., said Benetti. Thats how it works. Thats the fun of it. Sports is supposed to be different every time you watch it, he is different every time you encounter him, except for one constant he has a gloriously kind heart. I want that, I want that in the person next to me, following the paces of the game with me, whatever that is, thats a key component.

WHY HED BE GREAT TO WORK WITH

I think working with someone like Walton tests the skill of a play-by-play announcer. How can you keep it all together while hes going off on a tangent? For all the times he seems unhinged and going rogue, I get the impression that he is actively trying to get a reaction from his partner.

Walton appears to be ok with the banter that goes back and forth during the broadcast and falls under the category of being able to dish it out and take it too. Thats an admirable quality. I think its also a subtle reminder for us play-by-play types not to take ourselves so seriously all the time. We need that nudge every now and then.

CONCLUSION

Walton is certainly not everyones cup of tea. He annoys some sections of the audience. Seemingly for every one viewer that doesnt like or get it, there are 5 or 10 that really get a kick out of the nuttiness. Polarizing perhaps, but good for television and for the game of basketball.

Anatomy of A Collapse: Indias Batting Woes Are Not Entirely Shocking – The Wire

For the white ball leg of Indias current outing in Australia, the Indian team donned a kit that resembled the one from early 1990s.

The pleasantly surprising move allowed the fans to indulge in a nostalgic drive while witnessing some quality cricket. During the first one-day match however, Sanjay Manjrekar on commentary remarked that along with the kit, Indias fielding standards too were reminiscent of those the team was known for back in the 90s. Manjrekar is somewhat infamous for having a few sarcastic swipes at the Indian team from time to time and few would have raised their eyebrows over it.

In fact, India finished the limited overs leg with fairly respectable returns. But for a few fielding lapses in an odd game, nothing about the teams effort would bring back the less than pleasing memories of the 90s. Nothing for the fans to lose sleep over. Well, not yet anyway. Except that the horrors of the 90s were reserved for the 3rd innings of the opening Test at Adelaide. The humiliating capitulation on Saturday morning that saw India register its lowest total ever in a Test innings was not a sight entirely unfamiliar to a generation having lived through the ordeals from Durban to Bridgetown and from Hamilton to Ahmedabad.

But with the constant emphasis in the media on this teams superior pedigree to those in the past, the fans could be forgiven for thinking those tribulations were something theyd never be subjected to again. And even if one accounts for an odd aberration that isnt thematic of the teams quality, this Test had no business being one of the occasions considering the position of authority that Virat Kohlis men had secured at the end of the second days play.

India went into the third innings with a handy 53 run lead, though it could have been a much more substantial one with neater catching. India had lost opener Prithvi Shaw late on day 2 but Shaw hasnt inspired much confidence of late and with the experienced senior pros in the middle order still in the dugout, India looked at building a solid ground to defend, perhaps even batting Australia out of the Test. But that obviously didnt go according to plans.

Nightwatchman Jasprit Bumrah succumbed to Pat Cummins in the second over of the day. That was on expected lines. Bumrah had already played his part. In walked Cheteshwar Pujara. Opener Mayank Agarwal was just looking like he was ready to see out the new ball despite having had a lifeline the previous night. This was the critical partnership India was counting on. Agarwal and Pujara had to bat long and wear the Australian bowlers down to provide a platform for Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, and Hanuma Vihari to capitalise on later in the day.

The next thirty odd minutes proved to be Indias death knell as Cummins and Josh Hazlewood delivered an exhibition of peerless fast bowling reducing Indian batsmen to mere spectators resigned to fate. From being only one down for 15 runs at one point, India lost 8 more adding another 16 runs to the scoreboard. Cummins and Hazlewood ran in, consistently hit the three quarter length, exploited bounce, and ensured the seam movement was just about enough to take the batsmans edge almost every single time.

Pujara found himself playing the wrong line, Rahane and Agarwal got caught in the crease, Vihari played with hard hands, and Kohli not for the first time in his life chased a wide one after committing himself on the front foot. The pitch too played quite visibly quicker than it did for the first two days. The bounce was true and the ball carried above the keepers shoulders. The edges were no longer carrying short to the slips. Add to it, two of the worlds best bowlers extracting nasty seam movement constantly threatening both the edges of the bat.

These were not the most conducive of conditions for batting. The Australian batsmen themselves found it incredibly tough to find any rhythm on this pitch against an attack slightly less potent than their own. But that does not explain away a chink in the armour that India has refused to address for a while now that this batting unit is not quite as good as it is often made out to be.

That Indias bowling attack is the most potent one in the world across conditions is no longer an opinion now. The claim has demonstrable evidence. But the same cannot be said about batting. Earlier this year, India played two Tests in New Zealand in daunting conditions and threw in the towel rather easily. It must be clarified India lost the toss in both Tests and therefore had to bear the brunt of a green seaming wicket first up. But interestingly, it is the second innings on both occasions that the Indian batting got skittled out rather cheaply the phase of a Test match most batting friendly in New Zealand.

On their 2018 South Africa tour, India conceded the Test series under similarly testing conditions. In the two Tests they lost, India lost seven wickets for less than 100 in three out of four innings. Things didnt change much later that year in England either as India similarly found themselves wanting against the moving ball be it at Edgbaston, Lords, or The Oval. And when one views Saturdays debacle at Adelaide under the weight of this recent historical context, things suddenly do not seem all that shocking. In fact, the showdown from Cummins and Hazlewood mustve painfully reminded the Indian fans of their teams travails at Old Trafford in 2014 when James Anderson and Stuart Broad kept pitching the ball up and the Indian top order kept guiding everything to the slip cordon. Three out of Indias top six have remained the same across the six years between these two Tests but the demons have not been put to rest yet.

Now, no team in the world is comfortable batting against sustained quality of fast bowling when the conditions assist the bowlers so much. And despite some glaring technical problems with Indias batsmen, the scorecard from this innings does not fairly appraise the teams bating reserves. It was one of those freakish passages of play where everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong. It is entirely possible Cummins and Hazlewood will bowl even better at some point in the remainder of the series than they did today without coming anywhere close to replicating the same returns. And at the same time, Indian batsmen too will at some point get away with playing more profligate shots outside off stump.

Having said that, Indias batting woes outside the subcontinent very much continue to remain and are unlikely to go away any time soon. Indias fast bowling stocks are stronger than ever though and that allows the team to produce results from time to time that flatter to deceive. Over the course of Test crickets history, rarely have teams thoroughly cracked what would qualify as alien conditions. It is perfectly normal for teams to take a beating down when odds are so heavily stacked against them.

The current Indian team is no exception. They still remain an extremely formidable force in their own backyard and that enviable home record is something that deserves to be written about much more. But away from home, contrary to what the fans have been led to believe, this batting unit is hardly any stronger than the ones India has produced since the turn of the century and remains just as vulnerable as ever. No amount of boisterousness in front of press by Ravi Shastri is going to change it.

The Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders went to overtime last night on , which helped spike the ratings for Foxs midweek primetime game.

The Chargers overtime victory in the showdown of West(ish) Coast rivals drew a night-leading 2.2 rating and 8.64 million viewers, which is actually off a tenth in the demo and down in viewers from the early Nielsen Live+Same Day numbers of last weeks higher-profile Rams-Patriots game, though last nights numbers will likely be adjusted in the finals.

Elsewhere, ABCs trio of Thursday dramas wrapped up their fall runs last night, with Greys Anatomy (1.0, 5.55M) off a tenth from last week but still primetimes top-rated scripted offering. Station 19 (0.9, 5.39M) bumped up a tenth, while A Million Little Things (0.5, 3.31M) was steady.

CBS comedy block returned to originals last night and was down a tenth across the board with Young Sheldon (0.7, 6.69M), the nights most-watched scripted show, followed by B Positive (0.5, 4.57M), Mom (0.5, 4.49M) and The Unicorn (0.4, 3.28M). Star Trek: Discovery (0.2, 1.72M).

On NBC, an encore of Dolly Partons Coat of Many Colors TV movie led into a fresh Dateline (0.4, 3.13M).

The CW aired a pair of specials, Dogs of the Year (0.1, 820,000) and Worlds Funniest Animals (0.1, 600K).

Its Thursday, and that means TGIT on ABC, right? Sadly not this week. Its Christmas Eve, andGreys Anatomy Season 17 is not on.

ABC doesnt air new episodes of its top TV shows during the Christmas holidays. This allows for the cast and crew members to take some time off during this time and makes sure there are enough episodes in the bank for when the show returns. Plus, viewing figures are usually down during this time, so ABC isnt going to risk its top dramas.

Instead,The Greatest Showman will air tonight, giving families something to check out before sending the kids to bed to wait for Santa Claus.

Its going to be a while before there are new episodes.Greys Anatomy Season 17 wont return in January like it usually does. Due to COVID-19 and filming precautions, there arent enough episodes to run from January as normal. Were waiting until Mar. 4, 2021.

When the show returns, there are a few storylines to catch up on. The first is Meredith Grey, who has been intubated to help with her breathing. Its a chance to save her life from COVID-19.

Well likely see more familiar faces return on her beach. This is the place for her to try to fight for her life so she can return to her kids.

Meanwhile, Koracick is suffering from fear. And thats not all that surprising. People with COVID around him are dying. Does that mean he will? Thats what he is so scared of, and hell be even more terrified when he finds out whats happened to Meredith.

Then we have DeLuca, who saw the sex trafficking woman from the previous season. He isnt going to let her get away again, and this time he is on her tail with his sister to back him up.

Theres a lot going on when the show returns.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Keeps Trying to Replace Derek, But It Will Never Work – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Greys Anatomy wouldnt be in its 17th season if it didnt have a strong opening, and while the show remains a massive hit nearly two decades into its run, it still owes a lot to its earliest days.

While the show is, at its core, an ensemble piece about theworkers at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital, its really about the titular Meredith Grey. While fans still love the series, many miss a character who hasnt been on the series in years.

Dozens of characters have come and gone throughout the series run, but Ellen PompeosMeredith Grey remains headstrong17 years into her run on the series. Throughout that time, fans have watched Grey fall in and out of love, watched as her loved ones pass away, cope with the tragedies that come with her job, and manage several difficult personalities both through her doctors and her patients.

In many ways, it is Greys private life that shapes everything else. The show has gotten bigger in scale and made stars out of more than one cast member, but had Grey not been there as the hospitals backbone, things might have gone much differently.

As a hard-working doctor with little time to waste on love, several men have tried throughout the series run, but her original relationship with Derek is still the highlight of her love life.

Meredith met Derek through their job. As her married boss, the twotried to keep their relationship professionaluntil a spur-of-the-moment one-night-stand complicated things. However, rather than hiding her feelings, Meredith and Derek eventually come clean after he agrees to leave his wife and start a relationship with Grey.

The relationship had its ups and downs for eleven years, but when Dempsey left the show in season 11, a wrench was put into the whole thing.

From Chris ODonnells Finn, a rebound after Derek resisted her pleas to Nathan, Finn, and William Thorpe, Meredith has had her ups and downs when it comes to her relationships. Pompeo reflected on this shifting tone, acknowledging that she wanted Greys love life to be authentic.

I think that a show that runs for as long asGreys, the show has had to grow with the characters, Pompeo told Good Housekeeping. Im 15 years older now, so Im so much stronger a person than I was then. It just evolves, the actress said (per Good Housekeeping). The writers get to know you, they watch the dailies and they watch the show.Greysis so unique, because weve been on the air for so long, theyve all watched me grow up. Despite Dereks death and Dempseys departure, that initial relationship is still the best the show has had to offer.

Speaking about the men in Merediths life, manyfans on Reddit spoke about their desireto see her end up with someone like Derek. However, as u/HorseToothGary points out, recreating what once worked doesnt necessarily make for compelling television.

Meredith and Derek were too good together. They made the show the hit it was in the beginning. No other combo will ever come close. Patrick Dempsey was just too perfect. It would be like trying to replace Han Solo with Leia. Not possible.

Meredith has to grapple with loss like everyone else, and while the series has had its hits and misses over 17 years, this helps keep the show fresh. After all, Meredith is the driving force that has allowed Greys cast to flourish for as long as it has.With no signs of slowing down, either, perhaps true love still awaits its biggest star.

Swamp Thing 109 Review: The Anatomy Lesson – Cape & Castle

I cant believe were rearing up on the season (series) finale. Just one episode to go. Even when this first came out, I believed it deserved a second season and more beyond that. I still believe that. With all of the buzzing on social media about its time on The CW, its apparent Im not the only one. Now, with the show nearing its finale, will there be more? Thats still a mystery.Last week on Swamp Thing (review here), Abby tried to search for answers but only found trouble at the CDC. Her resources were yanked out from under her, including her best friend, Harlan. Averys fight for survival out in the swamp brought painful memories to the surface and he came face to face with Swamp Thing. Though promises were made, they were also broken.This week, Abby turned to Liz for help in finding Alec/Swamp Thing. Daniel stepped up to take on the role of the true Blue Devil. Woodrue completely lost himself in his obsession.

Lets review!

Abby (Crystal Reed) surprised Liz (Maria Sten) with her return but it was a short welcome. Immediately, Abby asked for her help with finding and rescuing Swamp Thing/Alec from Woodrues clutches. While it seemed crazy to ask, Liz reminded Abby that she will always be at her side. I absolutely love that about Liz. No matter the amount of crazy or danger, like Abby, she will do anything to help people. Those two are like two peas in a pod. Make that three when you add Harlan, and I totally am because Im not giving up on his being suddenly kidnapped in the dark of the night.

The two wound up visiting Woodrues home only to meet his wife whose Alzheimers is even worse than before. The determination and teamwork between Abby and Liz really make my feminist heart swoon. Woman power at its finest, you guys. Nothing is standing in their way of finding Swamp Thing and getting to the bottom of the Sunderlands dirty business. However, I wish they wouldve called somebody to stay with Mrs. Woodrue so she wasnt by herself after they left her house.

Swamp Thing 109 The Anatomy Lesson via TSR

After finding and saving Alec/Swamp Thing (Derek Mears), Abby refused to leave his side as they followed him back to the place where he died. Liz couldnt go on, but Abby remained and saw him bring his own body from the water, proving once and for all that Alec is dead. What remains is this new form of Alec: Swamp Thing. Hell never return to his human form. While it is heartbreaking for Abby, it also settled her fight to save Alec and focus on the danger Marais is in because of the Rot. Yeah, thats still out there!

Daniel (Ian Ziering) was still being held in the hospital, but after the Phantom Stranger paid him a visit and showed him a vision of Abby and Liz being shot to death trying to save Swamp Thing/Alec, he wasnt staying any longer. It was time to officially jump in the fray. This wasnt just some attempt to get out of Marais either. This was his friends in danger. While its been a hot second since hes been onscreen, Im thrilled to see him jump back into action.

Getting to see the Blue Devil blaze to life was phenomenal. Granted, Daniel questioned himself but ultimately took it on, determined to get it right this time. Luckily, he made it in time and managed to save Abby and Liz, giving them the chance they needed to get to Swamp Thing/Alec.

Swamp Thing 109 The Anatomy Lesson via TSR

The grand entrance of the Blue Devil was utterly spectacular. From the scene of him taking on a room full of militant mercenaries down to his look with the horns and his devastating, fiery powers. The build-up of Daniels character from his backstory to his destiny was more than worthwhile just for this. Sure, the full size, smurf blue demon came out a lot different and a little scarier than his traditional comic self, but coming to life, he looked amazing. Hellish and badass!

Swamp Thing 109 The Anatomy Lesson via Hypable

Woodrues (Kevin Durand) greatest dream just came true. He found the specimen of a lifetime by capturing Swamp Thing/Alec. With Averys (Will Patton) discretion at a secret Sunderland facility, he got the chance to study Swamp Thing as if he werent a living thing, but just another test subject thats a means to advance his career. His intensity about this shows just how much hes truly forgotten about his wifes condition, so this is no longer for her.

As he went about the autopsy, he discovered organs inside but pointed out that they dont do anything. These bits of Swamp Thing are bits that kept him tied to his human self, Alec Holland, from before. Its the part of Swamp Thing that still believed he could go back to being a man, that a part of him still was. It didnt move Woodrue to consider stopping his procedure but only encouraged him more. Me, however? My heart broke for him and Abby. Hes still trying to figure out who and what he is and this was brutal.

Avery surprised Maria (Virginia Madsen) this week by getting her sent to the Barclay Institution, a mental hospital, and fully taking over the project with Woodrue, the accelerant, and Swamp Thing. With her committed, that left him in charge of her money too. She definitely needed to be put into a loony bin, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth. Maria, as dastardly and unforgiving as she is, has more of a level head about business and morals than Avery does. Avery needs put away too. Hopefully, hell be next! The man is dangerous and has no regard for anybody when it comes to getting something he wants and he wants Swamp Thing.
