Next Phase of ENCODE Finds MORE Functional Information in Genome Junk – Discovery Institute

The first publications from the ENCODE project (Encyclopedia of DNA Elements) made a big splash atEvolution News in 2013, and around the world, because it undermined the junk DNA myth and simultaneously fulfilled an ID prediction: that non-coding parts of the genome would prove functional. Junk-DNA proponents like Dan Graur were upset at the time, admittingas Jonathan Wells reported, If ENCODE is right, evolution is wrong.

Well,ModENCODE(ENCODE for model organisms) found unprecedented complexity in the fruit fly genome in 2014, then ENCODE 2 followed up with more discoveries of function. Now, ENCODE 3 has just finished submitting its reports, with record numbers of DNA annotations listed, and ENCODE 4 is gearing up. Nothing like a little overkill to drive the point home: then evolution is wrong. Look at how much constructive science is being done with the assumption that DNA elements are there for a purpose.

Before introducing the latest results,Natureprovides an overview, Perspectives on ENCODE, that recounts the history and purposes of the project:

The ENCODE Project was launched in2003, as the first nearly complete human genome sequence was reported. At that time, our understanding of the human genome was limited. For example, although 5% of the genome was known to be under purifying selection in placental mammals, our knowledge of specific elements, particularly with regards to non-protein coding genes and regulatory regions, was restrictedto a few well-studied loci.

ENCODE commenced asan ambitious effort to comprehensively annotate the elements in the human genome, such as genes, control elements, and transcript isoforms, and was later expanded to annotate the genomes ofseveral model organisms. Mapping assays identified biochemical activities and thus candidate regulatory elements. [Emphasis added.]

Annotations are like labels or comments on things. For instance, if you have a stereo system with a lot of cables, you might affix tags on them to indicate where the TV plugs in, or where each speaker wire goes. In computer programming, wise programmers add comments in English to explain what a section of code does. Comments do not affect the function of the code, but help the next programmer follow the logic.

DNA is like a program, only it did not come with English comments! That is why ENCODE is important; the project is building a searchable database for researchers to find out what a string like ACCCTGTAAAGTG is doing. Is it a gene? Is it a control region? Medical researchers will want to see if a SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) in that string correlates with a disease.

The project is sending scientists all over the world on a treasure hunt for functions in the junk pile assumed to exist from evolutionary history. The first results in 2013 indicated that over 80 percent of the genome was being transcribed. That was a strong clue that most non-coding regions were functional, even if the functions were unknown, because a cell would be unlikely to spend the energy transcribing nonsense. Indeed, many of those transcriptions turned out to be important regulatory regions.

The project began slowly but is accelerating.

Phase I (20032007) interrogated a specified 1% of the human genome in order toevaluate emerging technologies.

Phase II(20072012)introduced sequencing-based technologies(for example, chromatin immunoprecipitation with sequencing (ChIPseq) and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq)) that interrogated the whole human genome and transcriptome. General assays such as transcript, open-chromatin and histone modification mapping were used on a wide variety of cell lines, while more specific assays, such as mapping transcription factor binding regions, were performed extensively on a smaller number of cell lines to providedetailed annotations on, and to investigate the relationships of, many regulatory proteinsacross the genome.

The findings of ENCODE are accelerating along with sequencing technologies. The latest Phase III reports were published July 29 inNature. Some of the labs involved are telling what they found.

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratoryincludes a must-watch video:

It begins with a striking moment where Ewan Birney, senior ENCODE researcher at CSHL, opens a huge tome containing a complete printout of the human genome. He calls it a big achievement in 2000, but its just a set of boring letters that ENCODE is bringing to life. These letters actually do something, he says, they mean something. The goal is to find out what they mean to learn their functions. Magdalena Skipper, the next speaker, says that the ENCODE Consortium considers functional elements in very broad terms beyond genes to the regulatory elements, switches and even to parts where we have no idea what they are doing, Birney adds. This fits ID proponent Paul Nelsons motto, If something works, its not happening by accident.

So far ENCODE has produced a staggering hundreds of terabytes of raw data in detailed form:

In Phase 3, researchers took advantage of the latest genetic technologies to glean data from biological specimens and deeply investigate theregulatory regions outside of genes, where most of the genomes person-to-person variation lies.Their data identifies some900,000 candidate regulatory elements from the human genome and more than 300,000 from the mouse, which can be explored through ENCODEs new online browser.

Within the hundreds of cell types studied, ENCODE is helping scientists understand why your liver cell is different from your kidney cell, Birney says; the secrets will be found in the switches that turn genes on and off. Its really a first view of that complexity that generates a human being.

Skipper says it was striking to find that they were able to assign a biochemical function to 80 percent of the genome: striking, because not such a long time ago, we still considered that a vast proportion of the human genome was simply junk. Birney comments, Its very hard to get over the density of information in the genome. They found places that are much more complex than expected, and loci thought to be completely silent are actually teeming with life, teeming with things going on; we still really dont understand that. Another surprise is that portions corresponding with disease are being found in non-coding parts of the genome.

This encyclopedia is a living resource. It has a beginning but really no end. It will continue to be improved, and grown, as time goes on.

MITs news releaseis titled, Bringing RNA into genomics. It describes the new technologies MIT used to identify candidate RNA transcripts and then determine their functions. And function is the key word in their work:

These RNA sequencesdo not get translated into proteins, but act in a variety of ways to control how much protein is madefrom protein-coding genes. The research team, which includes scientists from MIT and several other institutions, made use of RNA-binding proteins to help themlocate and assign possible functionsto tens of thousands of sequences of the genome.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH)describes the search for genetic switches that turn genes on and off in different cell types and in various stages of development. This is being determined for the mouse genome as well as the human genome.

A key challenge in ENCODE is thatdifferent genes and functional regions are active in different cell types, said Elise Feingold, Ph.D., scientific advisor for strategic implementation in the Division of Genome Sciences at NHGRI and a lead on ENCODE for the institute. This means that weneed to test a large and diverse number of biological samplesto work towards a catalog of candidate functional elements in the genome.

Significant progress has been made in characterizing protein-coding genes, which comprise less than 2% of the human genome.Researchers know much less about the remaining 98% of the genome, including how much and which parts of it perform other functions.ENCODE is helping to fill in this significant knowledge gap.

The human body is composed of trillions of cells, with thousands of types of cells. While all these cells share a common set of DNA instructions, the diverse cell types (e.g., heart, lung and brain) carry outdistinct functions by using the information encoded in DNA differently. The DNA regions that act asswitchesto turn genes on or off,or tune the exact levels of gene activity, help drive the formation of distinct cell types in the body and govern their functioning in health and disease.

Naturesown News and Views story, Expanded ENCODE delivers invaluable genomic encyclopedia, boasts that Phase III has generated the most comprehensive catalogue yet of thefunctionalelements that regulate our genes.

In the current third phase of the project, the consortium movedfrom cell lines to cells taken directly from human and mouse tissues, providing a more biologically relevant encyclopedia. They also introduced assays to investigate the broader aspects of functional elements for example, to characterize the elements embedded in RNAs or to analyse chromatin looping, which brings separate CREs into close proximity to enable gene regulation.

There are eight technical papers in the special issue ofNature, all open access. Start with Expanded encyclopaedias of DNA elements in the human and mouse genomes for the details, scan through the other papers, and marvel at the exciting discoveries from Phase III. Or you can read ENCODE explained for an overview with illustrations. Its all part of theENCODE Collectiongoing back to 2012.

What is next for ENCODE? The Perspectives on ENCODE article cited earlier explains why much more research is still needed to understand the vast volume of functional information in our DNA:

It is now apparent that elements that govern transcription, chromatin organization, splicing, and otherkey aspects of genome control and function are densely encodedin the human genome; however, despite the discovery of many new elements, the annotationof elements that are highly selective for particular cell types or statesis lagging behind.

Thus, as part of ENCODE 4,considerable effort is being devoted to expanding the cell types and tissuesanalysed as well as mapping the binding regions for many more transcription factors and RNA-binding proteins.

Further research may even find new functions for repetitive sequences, or for silent sequences that only get switched on under unique circumstances, or in particular cell types, or during certain stages of development. In short: the search is on for function in the junk!

To Avoid Debate, Darwinists at the AAAS Would Even CensorDarwin – Discovery Institute

Photo: Statue of Charles Darwin, Shrewsbury Library, by Bs0u10e01 / CC BY-SA.

As you may remember fromearlier coverage here, Herman Bouma is the attorney whose presentation on Darwin was canceled by the 2019 National Science Teaching Associations National Conference. The point of Boumas planned discussion was that Charles Darwin practiced open debate with his critics, an example from which teachers today could take a lesson. This was too much, though, for the influential group to tolerate so they sent conference officials and security guards to escort him out.

Well, the story continues now as the American Association for the Advancement of Science has joined the NSTA in giving Bouma the runaround.

This February, the AAAS held its annual meeting here in Seattle. In addition to lectures and keynotes, the meeting is where different branches hold business meetings. Bouma recently emailed us about what happened when he tried to submit a resolution to the Biological Sciences section for its consideration.

Bouma explained the situation this way:

The resolution simply states that a teacher should feel free to teach how Darwin responded to his critics. I was informed by the chair, Dr. Vicki Chandler, that the main office of the AAAS would be handling the resolution because it dealt with the subject of evolution. Last week I was informed by the current chair of the section, Dr. David Burgess, that the main office did not support the resolution. When I asked why, he refused to give any reason. It seems clear that the AAAS opposes the resolution because it does not want any discussion of scientific arguments against neo-Darwinian evolution, but is too embarrassed to state this publicly.

Was Bouma proposing some distasteful policy, or simply encouraging educators to treat Darwinian evolution like a science? Read the resolution for yourself:

Resolution on Freedom to Teach Darwins Response to His Critics

Whereas in his bookThe Origin of SpeciesDarwin responded to eminent scientists of his day who had scientific arguments against his theory of natural selection, including Louis Agassiz,a world-renowned professor of geology and biology at Harvard University known as the father of the American scientific tradition; Adam Sedgwick, a professor of geology and paleontology at Cambridge University and one of Britains most distinguished geologists; and Karl Nageli, a Swiss professor of botany at the University of Munich who was famous for his work on plant cells;

WhereasDarwin took great care to reply thoughtfully to the scientific arguments against his theory and, by the time of the sixth edition ofThe Origin of Speciesin 1872, approximately one-third of his book consisted of his response to his critics;

Whereas Darwinstated, I look with confidence to the future,to young and rising naturalists, who will be able to view both sides of the question with impartiality (The Origin of Species, p. 444); and

Whereas the Statement on the Teaching of Evolution issued by the AAAS on February 16, 2006, might erroneously lead teachers and professors to think they should not teach Darwins response to his critics,

RESOLVED: When teaching Darwins theory of natural selection, a teacher or professor should feel free to teach Darwins response to his critics, as set forth in his bookThe Origin of Species.

Or dismayed? Disturbed? Actually, its a totally reasonable proposal treat Darwins theory as Darwin himself treated it! But it wasnt received that way. Bouma sent multiple courteous emails to the AAAS leadership, asking them to consider the resolution, but was stonewalled. Heres an example of one email Bouma sent on January 8, 2020:

Dear Dr. Chandler,

Happy New Year! I hope you had an enjoyable time over the holidays.

My name is Herman Bouma and I have been attending the business meetings of the Biological Sciences Section over the last several years. I have a resolution I would like to present to the Section for its approval at the business meeting next month in Seattle. Would you be so kind as to tell me what procedure I should follow for doing this?

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Chandler promised to review and respond to Boumas resolution. Dr. Chandler later replied, declining even to consider it at the AAAS meeting. Chandler gave Bouma no official feedback on his resolution but emphasized instead how much the AAAS fight[s] the good fight to support teaching evolution:

We of course support the teaching of evolution.AAAS takes an active approach to informing the public about, and taking a stand for teaching evolution. Efforts to fight the good fight about teaching evolution are public onaaas.org, and have been ongoing for years. We believe working with the main office folks that handles the evolution effort and policies associated with teaching evolution is the best way forward,as teaching evolution is relevant to a large number of sections and AAAS membership. As such I have forwarded your request to AAAS main office.

Bouma wrote back. He asked, At some point will I be receiving a response from the AAAS main office? He also wondered, Will the Biological Sciences Section and other sections be providing input to the AAAS main office about my resolution? He pointed out that his resolution is fully consistent with Chandlers stated position that the AAAS supports the teaching of evolution:

I wish to emphasize that the resolution is not in any way against the teaching of evolution. It takes the teaching of evolution as a given. The resolution simply seeks to make clear to teachers that they should feel free to teach Darwins response to critics of his theory of natural selection.

Having heard nothing from the AAAS main office, a few weeks later, Bouma asked Chandler if theyd ever get back to him about the resolution. Chandler replied, That is my expectation. This correspondence all took place before the AAAS annual meeting, which was February 13-16. AnEvolution Newscorrespondent reported on the Education business meeting at that same conferencehere. It became clear that the AAAS main office was going to stonewall Bouma as well.

On February 18, Bouma contacted the new chair of the Biological Sciences section of the AAAS, David Burgess, noting that hed not heard back from the AAAS main office about the resolution:

As of this time I have not received any communication from the main office. If you hear anything about the status of the proposal and who is working on it, I would much appreciate your letting me know. I would also greatly appreciate your support of the proposal.

Burgess wrote back three days later:

Herman, thank you for youremail. I know this has been moved up to the main offices of AAAS. There is no support among the officers of the BiologicalSciences section to take this up at the section level. In viewing of your organizations website, it is clear that you represent one whose views are in contrast to that of mainstream science on the issue of evolution and its teaching. I suggest you take it up with the main offices of AAAS.

Its good that Burgess gave Bouma something like a straight answer. The disturbing news is that the answer indicated that the Biological Sciences section of the AAAS is so intolerant that they dont support efforts to teach Darwins theory the way Darwin himself treated it to acknowledge that criticisms exist and to teach Darwins response to his critics.

Bouma had a ready reply:

My organization is simply trying to promote an objective discussion of the scientific merits of the theory of natural selection. Even Darwin wanted that. It would be peculiar if mainstream science was at odds with the expressed wishes of Darwin.

It would indeed be peculiar if mainstream science did not support Darwins approach to dealing with criticisms of his theory. Instead, Darwins ideas are to be treated as sacred dogmas, beyond questioning.

But that was only the position of the AAAS Biological Sciences section. Perhaps the AAAS central office would have a different perspective. Months went by and Bouma received no reply from the AAAS central office. So on July 6 Bouma sent an inquiry to Dr. Burgess, wondering why hed heard nothing about his resolution:

I am following up with respect to my proposed resolution for AAAS. As a reminder, the proposed resolution simply states that a teacher or professor should feel free to teach how Darwin responded to his critics. After I submitted the proposed resolution to the Biological Sciences section, I was informed byDr. Chandler that it would be handled bythe AAAS main office, and in an email on February 21 you suggested I take it up with the main offices of AAAS. So far I have sent three emails about the resolution (on February 24, April 24, and May 18) to Dr. Parikh, the CEO of AAAS, but have received no response. Do you have any information about the present status of my proposal?

Dr. Burgess then explained what was really going on:

Herman, it is apparent that the lack of response is a direct message to you that there is no support.

This is most disconcerting. Boumas modest proposal to teach evolution the way Darwin treated his own theory has no support from one of the worlds largest and most powerful scientific organizations, the AAAS.

Bouma then replied asking Why is there no support, David? but again no reply has been forthcoming.

Bouma explained to us what is really going on here: This is another instance of the scientific communitys zeal to prevent students from hearing any scientific arguments against neo-Darwinian evolution. In furtherance of this objective, the AAAS, like the NSTA, is even willing to censor Darwin.

WATCH | 8 music videos that perfectly display the evolution of Taylor Swift – News24

It's been nearly two weeks since Taylor Swift surprised fans with her eighth studio album, folklore. Since then, the 30-year-old has set numerous records, with the album being called the biggest of 2020 so far by some.

The new album shows a different side to the star - a more indie/folk sound. The change, however minor or drastic you may perceive it to be, is just the latest in many musical transformations Taylor has undergone. Remember the curly-haired, guitar-playing, country star we all fell in love with? Well, we do!

Taylor has released eight studio albums to date, transforming her style with each one. So strap on your seatbelts, cause we're about to take a trip down memory lane.

Here are eight music videos that perfectly show Taylor's musical journey:

1. Teardrops on My Guitar (From the album, Taylor Swift)

Day one Swifties, where you at?

2006 saw the release of Taylor's self-titled debut album. With a head full of curls and her guitar always close by, Taylor was the new girl on the country scene. Her songs were relatable and had every teen singing along.

2. You Belong With Me (From the album, Fearless)

Taylor had established herself a teen country sensation. The year is 2008, and You Belong With Me is playing on every radio station.

Taylor's still rocking those girls, but there's something else that makes people gravitate towards her - she's repping for the underdog. The star lets everyone know it's okay to be the odd kid. Her fanbase continues to grow from here.

3. Back to December (From the album, Speak Now)

Taylor slowly starts to stray from her country roots, leaning more towards mainstream pop. She is growing up, and it shows in her music. While previous songs feel more like high school romances, Back To December shows a more mature side to the singer. Rumour has it the song was penned for Taylor Lautner who she briefly dated.

Taylor also starts to switch up her look here. The tight curls are gone, and in this video, she appears with her iconic straight-cut fringe.

4. I Knew You Were Trouble (From the album, Red)

It's 2012, and the pop scene has fully welcomed Taylor Swift. The singer releases Red, giving us amazing upbeat pop gems like We Are Never Getting Back Together and 22.

There's also a continuation of her "songs inspired by my ex-boyfriends" theme (not a real theme, but you get what we mean). We Are Never Getting Back Together is rumoured to be about Jake Gyllenhaal, while I knew You Were Trouble is said to be inspired by Taylor's relationship with Harry Styles.

The video for I Knew You Were Trouble is just a taste of a more edgy Taylor. The truth is, we had no idea what was coming.

5. Bad Blood (From the album, 1989)

2014 saw Taylor go from the gentle high school nerd who avoided confrontation, to the popular girl who could get her famous friends to beat you up.

The music video for this song features a number of Taylor's close friends, including Selena Gomez and Karlie Kloss, who form part of what many refer to as the "Tay Squad".

The song was rumoured to be directed at Katy Perry, but it was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to that feud. Edgy Taylor was in full swing with a ruffled bob and side-swept fringe.

1989 also gave us bangers like Shake It Off and Blank Space. Taylor was standing up for herself, and she was more overt about it.

6. Look What You Made Me Do (From the album, Reputation)

Sorry, the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now. No more Ms Nice Girl, Taylor's claws were out with this one. The sunshine and butterflies were replaced with zombies and snakes. In fact, in the Look What You Made Me Do video, the "new" Taylor is seen standing on top of a pedestal as past versions of herself try to reach her.

The song, once again rumoured to be about her feud with Katy Perry, sampled a track used in the Mean Girls movie. This after Katy shared a cryptic tweet in which she warned people to "Watch out for the Regina George in sheep's clothing".

Taylor also references an on-going battle with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Overall, the video was a lot darker than we're used to seeing from Taylor.

7. Lover (From the album, Lover)

A revival of the "old" Taylor. Not going to lie, we missed her. Lover feels like a throwback to Taylor's country roots. At this point, the star has settled her feud with Katy and found love once again. She knows who she is, and it shows. With guitar in hand and soft curls in her hair, Taylor won over many hearts with this 2019 gem.

8. cardigan (From the album, folklore)

Finally, we've got the 2020 hit, cardigan. The song comes from Taylor's folklore album, and while it introduces a new indie style, it doesn't stray too far from the Taylor we know and love.

The Morning Watch: The Evolution of Bugs Bunny’s Voice, Stuntmen React to ‘Birds of Prey’ & More – /FILM

The Morning Watch is a recurring feature that highlights a handful of noteworthy videos from around the web. They could be video essays, fanmade productions, featurettes, short films, hilarious sketches, or just anything that has to do with our favorite movies and TV shows.

In this edition, follow the evolution of the Looney Tunes icon Bugs Bunny from throughout his 80-year history. Plus, watch as stuntmen react to action sequences from Birds of Prey, Romancing the Stone, and even a tough fall from iCarly. And finally, watch a throwback clip from Late Night with Conan OBrien where the comedian visits the set of Martha Stewart Living.

This year Bugs Bunny is celebrating his 80th anniversary, though some will argue that he actually first arrived in 1938. No matter when Bugs Bunny was born, hes gone through several iterations over the years with voice actors like Jeff Bergman, Greg Burson, Billy West, Sam Vincent, Joe Alaskey, Jeff Bergman, and Charlie Schlatter all trying to capture the magic of the original vocal genius Mel Blanc. Hear the differences between all of them in the video above by Dave Lee Down Under.

Next up, a new iteration of Stuntmen React from Corridor Crew brings back Eric Linden to smugly analyze a big action sequence from Birds of Prey, a hard prat fall from the kids TV series iCarly, a dangerous waterfall dive from Romancing the Stone, and a short film featuring The Punisher.

Finally, Conan OBrien flashes back to a hilarious segment from Late Night when he visited the set of Martha Stewart Living at the height of the shows popularity. Conan even partakes in a cooking segment with Martha Stewart, and it goes about as well as youd expect.

Jadon Sancho and the evolution of the English transfer record since 1m Trevor Francis – Eurosport – ENGLAND (UK)

Paul Gascoigne, Alan Shearer and Rio Ferdinand have held the title, so too Andy Carroll and Raheem Sterling, but now Jadon Sancho looks set to become the most expensive English footballer of all time.

Some 41 years ago history was made when Trevor Francis became the first 1m signing when moving from Birmingham City to Nottingham Forest in 1979.

Fast forward to 2020 and the record for an English player now stands at 80 million, with United supposedly ready to eclipse the figure they paid for Harry Maguire in 2019 to secure Sancho's arrival at Old Trafford.

Rodolfo Lagos shared a series of photographs capturing the Brutalist architecture of Barcelona, illustrating how the movement has evolved in this iconic city.

The author explains:I am not an architect, but I've always been attracted to the profession. That's where I get my motivation; that and the curiosity for learning a little bit about everything around me. Brutalism is, in my opinion, be one of the most awe-inspiring styles of architecture--the harshest and rawest

It's these characteristics that inspire me when I photograph these buildings. I go everywhere by bicycle and the architecture of Barcelona never ceases to catch my eye--the convergence of so many styles that are able to harmonize in spite of their differences.

I cannot speak much on "Barcelonan Brutalism" because I'm not even sure if it can be pinpointed in all of its diversity. Not to mention that I lack professional knowledge and skills but what I do know is that riding a bicycle for a few hours around the city can make you see things in a different light. (Unfortunately,"Walden 7" by Ricardo Bofill was not included in this particular bike ride due to its distance; however, the experience of being there truly gives one the feeling of being in a work of art).

Cure your travel blues with North Fork Shack’s international to-go dinners – Northforker

The around the world to-go dinners from North Fork Shack will transport you through the food (credit: Felicia LaLomia).

It might not be feasible to travel outside of the country right now, but you can get a little culinary tour of the globe without leaving Long Island. North Fork Shack is offering to-go dinners most weekends that showcase a different countrys cuisine.

Since everyones travel plans have to be put on hold because of the pandemic, we decided to help by making dinner exciting and fun, Samy Sabil, co-owner, said. The idea was a way to leave home and travel through food.

The idea came from the downtime Sabil and his business partner Ryan Flatley typically have in the winters when they travel the world. We leave the country and travel and basically just eat and drink our way through, he said. So after doing all that, we got a love for all different foods and its simplicity and different flavors from different countries.

Past weekends have featured the cuisines of Morocco, where Sabil is from, Spain, France and Hawaii, all places the pair have traveled to. Over the next few weekends, North Fork Shack will be expanding to new countries. We decided to challenge ourselves and experience dishes from countries we have never been to but hope to visit one day soon, Sabil said.

This weekend kicks it off with a full Cuban menu. Creamy frijoles with onions and green peppers, smoky roasted eggplant and zucchini spears rolled in cuban cheese and cilantro, smashed and fried sweet plantains and a flavorful chicken and rice dish made with saffron, spices, green peas, red peppers and white wine are all included in the family style dinner.

This one, we just did research, Sabil said. We try to think of what really works for this time of the year thats not too heavy, but at the same time, be adventurous enough for people to try something thats outside of the box.

Following the Cuban menu is Mediterranean, French, Irish, Scottish and German. I feel like our customers are enjoying the excitement and suspense of finding out what the menu is for the weekend, he said. We have been getting many comments about how fun it is to try something different and not have to make any decisions.

The price of each family style dinner around the world is typically $50 for two people and comes with five courses. To keep up on all the dinners, follow North Fork Shack on Instagram or head to their website. They often sell out before the weekend rolls around, so get your order in as soon as possible.

Disneyland Paris Launches New Brochures in the Clever Style of Around-the-World Travel Guides – wdwnt.com

Want to see the world without the lengthy plane rides? Youre not alone there. Particularly with the current global climate, many people are finding themselves without exotic vacation plans, dreaming of that next ticket abroad to somewhere new and exciting.

Therefore, Disneyland Paris has just released a new set of brochures for the resort, cleverly styled as around-the-world travel guides. After all, with all the culture, adventure, and theming across Disneyland Paris, anyone can travel around the world in record time, all within the magic of the parks.

Each French-language guide is themed to a different continental area, and includes a list of themed attractions, restaurants, and shops throughout the Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios parks. Lets take a closer look together

The resort may be located in France, but there is much more European representation in the Disneyland Park! This first brochure focuses mainly on Fantasyland, and the different attractions which can be found there.

Representing the United Kingdom are the Alice in Wonderland themed attractions, such as Mad Hatters Tea Cups and Alices Curious Labyrinth, with Peter Pans Flight and Le Carrousel de Lancelot also based off British stories. The Les Voyages de Pinocchio ride and Pizzeria Bella Notte bring some Italian culture to the park too.

Of course, the Europe brochure also details the stunning French culture throughout the park, from the fairytale-inspired Sleeping Beauty Castle to Remys plaza outside the Ratatouille attraction in the Walt Disney Studios Park.

The second brochure focuses on all of the details inspired by North and South America, and Oceania.

What could be more iconic than Main Street, U.S.A? The first sight guests see as they enter the Disneyland park is themed to resemble the American town Walt Disney himself grew up in, bringing the classic American design over from Disneyland and Walt Disney World to the Paris park. Also featured in this brochure are the attractions and restaurants located in Frontierland, inspired by the American Far-West. Included here are the Phantom Manor and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, as well as the Cowboy Cookout Barbecue and Silver Spur Steakhouse.

Australia is represented over in the Walt Disney Studios Park, as guests can spin through the fast-paced East Australian Current aboard a turtle shell on Crushs Coaster. Back in the Disneyland park, the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and the pirate ship and caverns inside Adventure Isle will transport guests straight to the Caribbean Islands.

This third brochure focuses on elements themed to the continents of Africa and Asia, as well as touching on the areas of the land inspired by the legend of the Arabian Nights. The latter can be explored within stores like Les Tresors de Scheherezade, and sampled in the Moroccan-influenced Restaurant Agrabah Cafe.

African influences can be found across Disneyland Paris too, most especially in performances of The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands, and during the spectacular annual Lion King and Jungle Festival.

Indiana Jones et le Temple du Peril offers archaeological Indian influences to the Disneyland Park, and the theme of the nearby Colonel Hathis Pizza Outpost offers inspiration from the India-based The Jungle Book!

As if the world wasnt enough, Disneyland Paris also offers guests the experience of intergalactic adventure too, which is detailed in this final travel guide.

The Disneyland Parks Discoveryland is where guests can find all manners of intergalactic adventure, from the steampunk-style architecture of Cafe Hyperion to the Star Wars battles in Hyperspace Mountain and Star Tours.

You can read all four travel brochures in full here. We already knew that the Disneyland Paris advertising game is strong, following many adorable tv-spots over the years, but we particularly love this new promotional format for the resort. It is wonderful to appreciate the stunning and innovative theming across each park, and the clever cultural dedications behind every element. Will you be travelling around the world in Disneyland Paris soon?

This Latina Outdoorswoman Is Hiking Her Way Around the World and Proving There’s No One Type of Adventurer: Episode 9 of Travel + Leisure’s New…

Provided by Travel + Leisure Courtesy of Amanda Machado

If youve been following the journey of Lets Go Together, the new podcast from Travel + Leisure celebrating diversity in travel, youll have been introduced to people who are exploring the world despite their size, widowed women finding new joy in solo journeys, the first Black woman to travel to every single country, and many more incredible travelers.

And were still going strong.

This week, on the ninth installment of Lets Go Together, host and adventurer Kellee Edwards is joined by Amanda Machado, an avid hiker based in Oakland, California. Machado, the daughter of immigrants from Ecuador and Mexico, grew up in Florida, but has spent time hiking, camping, and backpacking in some of the most scenic locales in the world, including Chile, Peru, and South Africa.

For a Floridian, being outside on the beach was a given, but it wasnt until a trip to the White Mountains in New Hampshire that Machado discovered her true love of the outdoors. It was really intense and really scary and really uncomfortable, but also really fun, she recalled, adding, after going on that trip, [thats] when I realized thats something Id been wanting to do more.

Besides adventuring around the world, Machado is also on a quest to redefine the image of an outdoorsy person. Our image of what a hiker looks like or an adventurer is usually like a rugged white male out in the middle of the woods or canoeing by himself, she told Edwards, and it's really not an image that I had growing up in my own family.

In the episode the duo also discuss the barriers that many minority communities face in accessing nature, why its important, and how thats starting to change. Women of color, people of color deserve those same moments of self actualization and transformation and adventure and having wild and free lives that everybody deserves, she said. It's a privilege to spend time getting lost and wandering and exploring around the world. Right? And for a really long time that was a predominantly white, wealthy privilege.

Machado also shares what it was like connecting with her own roots hiking to Machu Picchu in the Andes, backcountry hoop earrings, and the times she felt most powerful in nature.

How Countries Are Coping With A Tanking Tourism Industry – Worldcrunch

Through 2019, international tourism was soaring. Lower plane ticket prices and rising incomes in many developing countries had created a new class of globetrotters, and as far as anyone could tell, it was sky's the limit for the travel industry.

That, of course, was before the coronavirus pandemic, which from one day to the next kept people confined not just to their home countries, but to their homes and neighborhoods. Paradoxically, quarantine has made some of the world's tourist hotspots even more desirable, with empty streets, uncrowded public transportation and famous museums and other attractions with no wait time.

But what about the businesses and even whole nations that rely on these visitors, and their wallets? Here's how seven countries around the world are managing without their normal influx of foreigners, and searching for new ways to climb out of the crisis.

United Kingdom

Minus the almost 22 million annual overseas visitors flooding London, the capital city's economy is expected to decrease 17% this year. Even the Tower of London's famous Beefeaters may be facing job cuts, perhaps for the first time since King Henry VII formed the elite unit of royal guards in 1485.

On the other hand, holiday parks within the UK are booming, with Brits looking for a change of scenery as tent, caravan and other lodging accommodations begin reopening. As Andrew Campbell, chair of the Wales Tourism Alliance, told the BBC: "People just wanted to get out and come to Wales. You can feel the joy, it's radiating off them."

While the Scottish Highlands are beginning to see a rise in tourists again, limited passenger numbers on ferries to increase social distancing is impacting tourism to Scotland's Isles. On the Isle of Arran, 1,500 tourism-related jobs are threatened. But others are taking a different approach to protect their communities.

Egypt

Resorts and archeological sites began reopening in Egypt at the beginning of July, hoping to revive an industry that accounts for 15% of the country's economy. Tourism also took a strong hit following Egypt's 2011 revolution, but eventually made a comeback, with 21% growth in 2019 and more than 13.5 million vacationers.

The country is easing tourist visa requirements and offering flight deals to attract travelers from Europe to popular Nile river cruises and beach town resorts. As Ashraf Nasr, who has offered camel rides for 25 years, told the BBC: "It's been so hard for everyone. We've spent four months at home. Each camel needs 100 Egyptian pounds ($6) a day for food."

Others are hoping that the pandemic will encourage "community tourism," with Egyptians traveling locally and in an ethical and ecologically responsible manner.

Indonesia

Normally a popular backpacker destination, the Indonesian island of Bali is only opening its beaches and temples to locals, and not until the end of the month. Foreign tourists won't be invited back in until mid September. There is hope, in the meantime, that an increase in the Chinese market will help revive Bali. Others are encouraging more sustainable, small-scale tourism. Rather than coming just to party, they want visitors to enjoy authentic cultural and environmental "experiences."

Around 6 million tourists visit Bali each summer to surf, explore the natural wonders and connect with its strong Hindu religious traditions. Over the past decades, Bali has also worked to become a tourist destination in the Muslim majority Indonesia, but with 80% of revenue connected to tourism, the economy is now in free fall.

Thousands of yoga instructors, spa workers and others whose income relies on tourism are shifting to a more sustainable lifestyle. Returning to their home villages in northern Bali, many are taking up farming often in Bali's many rice fields or fishing, along its empty beaches.

Mexico

Tourism in Mexico has been the bedrock for 11 million jobs, typically accounting for nearly 9% of Mexico's GDP.

In Yucatan state, a popular tourist destination, an overnight curfew has been imposed, with alcohol banned and marinas closed. Recently, authorities in the Caribbean beach resort of Tulum threatened to issue fines of up to 9,250 pesos ($413) or even arrest people for disobeying rules on wearing face masks, the Mexican news outlet PalcoNoticias reported.

The good news, however, is that Cancun was the first destination in the Americas and one of the first few in the world to receive the "Safe Travels" global safety and hygiene stamp from the World Travel & Tourism Council. This indicates that the destination has "implemented the new safety measures for travelers that WTTC has recognized and approved," said Quintana Roo Governor Carlos Joaqun Gonzlez in Travel and Leisure.

Spain

The worldwide coronavirus travel restrictions have weakened Spanish tourism, the country's leading economic sector. At the end of 2015, domestic and international tourism in Spain was estimated to bring in up to 5% of the country's overall GDP and sustained more than 2 million jobs. In Spain, the summer season has started and tourist homes are so far only about 35% full. The figure is far from the 85% occupation rate registered just a year ago.

The Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands are the destinations hardest hit by the pandemic. Due to their dependence on air travel and the massive absence of tourists (mainly English, German and Scandinavian), they anticipate the worst summer in history.

The Spanish island of Mallorca has closed its main party strip after drunken tourists were seen cavorting without masks, jumping on cars and chanting aggressively on the streets of a resort town, the local Diario de Mallorca newspaper reported last week. All of the bars on Punta Ballena street were closed because the "mainly British tourists there, and the bar operators themselves," were not complying with the rules, a spokesman for the Balearics regional government told CNN.

Japan

A certain confusion and a scent of scandal surround the "Go To Travel" campaign, which Japan launched on July 22 to support its pandemic-battered tourism industry. The initiative aims to "meet the demands of a struggling sector," said Deputy Tourism Minister Masamune Wada.

Within this framework, the government covers half of the cost of a stay up to the limit of 20,000 yen ($187) per person per day. And 30% of the refund comes in the form of coupons redeemable at restaurants, amusement parks or souvenir shops. The operation is expected to last until spring 2021 and cost 1.3 trillion yen (upwards of $12 billion), according to the French daily Le Monde.

The initiative is being questioned because of the high cost, but also because of a resurgence of COVID-19 infections, mainly in Tokyo, where more than 200 cases have been detected almost daily since July 9.

Sweden

As reported by The Times, a Swedish island in the Baltic Sea has taken a novel approach to maintaining social distancing among tourists by hiring a troupe of knights on horseback. In full medieval regalia, knights from a re-enactment group greet tourists arriving at the Gotland island ferry terminal. Keep thou distance ye tourists!

"During the week we will go on the beach and around the city to tourist sites," Dennis Norrthon of the Torneamentum society, which normally puts on jousting tournaments for visitors, told the London daily.

I Felt Safer Going to Disney Than Going to the Grocery Store – The Atlantic

Read: The Hunger Games theme park and the death of the Disney dream

Making it to the parks, therefore, remains the ultimate goal in cementing a fans Disney identity: There, they enjoy an unparalleled immersion rare in other fandoms, perhaps rivaled only by Harry Potter enthusiasts and the Wizarding World theme parks. They enter a real-life Neverland, a place where time stands still and childhood can last forever.

Still, why is a trip to the parks now, amid a pandemic, so necessary to fans that theyre willing to risk exposure to the virus? How does one become the type of fan for whom recreating the parks inside Animal Crossing or making Mickey Mouseshaped waffles isnt enough? What about the parks makes them not just attractive, but vital?

The fans I spoke with discussed Disney with nostalgia; each remembered a moment when the parks became more than a physical space, a touchstone for a distinct memory. Some involve celebrations: Marian Perez told me shed always been a Disney fan, but when she got engaged at Cinderella Castle, her fandom ignited into an obsession that led to a Disney-inspired wedding and Disney-related decor in her home. Others involve finding refuge: Rachael Reyna, who grew up visiting the parks twice a month, began frequenting them as an adult after an ectopic pregnancy in 2016. Something about being at Disney makes all your worries fade away, she told me in an email. I would spend days at the park by myself just to escape my depression. Its impossible to be sad at Disney. It might not make sense to people, but its my happy place.

In that sense, the parks serve as a reminder of personal joy, a physical totem of their bliss. I visited the parks too, and grew up with a similar appreciation for Dole Whip and hidden Mickeys. But where my impression of the parks faded and blurred over the years, these fans memories are as clear as glass slippers. A trip to the parks is never a mindless gesture for them; its fandom as therapy. Disney fans, Williams-Turkowski explained, are resilient about keeping the happiness going.

Indeed, they persist, even if it means donning masks in the Florida heat and feeling occasional pangs of anxiety. There were times when I would get on a ride and the first thing I would think is, Oh! Let me get my wipes and wipe it down, Michel, one of the Instagrammers, said. But just being there, it was nice. In fact, Lyn explained, its comforting to know the Disney parks are sacrificing signature elements of the experience to mitigate risks. If you went and it wasnt different, you wouldnt feel safe there, she said. Were in a place where everything we do is different. Everything.

CoinDesk Live Recap: Ethereum’s DeFi Luminaries Discuss What’s Next – CoinDesk – CoinDesk

For decentralized finance (DeFi) to make its mark, it must reach beyond the crypto bubble, said MakerDAO founder Rune Christensen.

Compared to where were going next, weve still just scratched the surface of what this technology will do, Christensen, whose lending platform recently topped $1 billion in committed assets, said.

He was joined by fellow DeFi luminaries Robert Leshner and Hayden Adams on Wednesday in a live-streamed conversation on the state of the $3.8 billion DeFi market. The session, part of CoinDesks Ethereum at Five series, was moderated by reporter Will Foxley.

It will certainly be a hard row to hoe, but the craze for yield farming and other middleman-less innovations could yet subvert traditional lenders. To date, DeFi has arguably been Ethereums best use case.

Were moving towards a world of mass tokenization, where everything that has value is going to be tokenized, said Adams, the founder of Uniswap, a platform for exchanging ERC-20 tokens. At the moment it looks like Ethereum is at least in the lead in terms of where its going to be tokenized.

Leshner, the founder of the Compound lending protocol, said DeFi has the potential to transform the opaque, expensive and slow systems of traditional finance.

The best things that work in traditional finance are the things that you know are there, they work and theyre not that exciting, Leshner said. Can you supply $100 million of assets and begin earning interest on them immediately? Or can you borrow$100 million of assets instantaneously and note that the entire system works?

EOS, Ethereum and Ripples XRP Daily Tech Analysis July 30th 2020 – Yahoo Finance

EOS

EOS rose by 0.79% on Wednesday. Following on from a 5.06% rally on Tuesday, EOS ended the day at $3.0292.

It was another mixed start to the day. EOS fell to an early morning intraday low $2.9560 before making a move.

Steering clear of the first major support level at $2.8319, EOS rallied to a late morning intraday high $3.1603.

EOS broke through the first major resistance level at $3.1288 before falling back to an afternoon low $3.0200.

Steering clear of sub-$3.00 levels, EOS found late support briefly revisit $3.11 levels before wrapping up the day at $3.02 levels.

At the time of writing, EOS was down by 0.48% to $3.0148. A bearish start to the day saw EOS fall from an early morning high $3.0286 to a low $2.9762

EOS left the major support and resistance levels untested early on.

EOS would need to avoid a fall through the $3.0485 pivot level to support a run at the first major resistance level at $3.1410.

Support from the broader market would be needed, however, for EOS to break back through to $3.10 levels.

Barring another extended crypto rally, the first major resistance level at $3.1410 would likely cap any upside.

Failure to move through the $3.0485 pivot would bring the first major support level at $2.9367 into play.

Barring an extended sell-off, EOS should steer well clear of sub-$2.90 levels and the second major support level at $2.8442.

Steering clear of the first major support level at $306.81, Ethereum rose to an early afternoon intraday high $325.85.

Falling short of the first major resistance level at $327.86, Ethereum fell back to sub-$320 levels before finding late support.

A move back through to $323 levels was brief, however, with Ethereum falling back to sub-$320 late in the day.

At the time of writing, Ethereum was down by 0.35% to $317.06. A bearish start to the day saw Ethereum fall from an early morning high $318.16 to a low $315.38.

Ethereum left the major support and resistance levels untested early on.

Story continues

Ethereum would need to move through the $319 pivot to support a run at the first major resistance level at $325.

Support from the broader market would be needed, however, for Ethereum to break back through to $325 levels.

Barring an extended crypto rally, the first major resistance level and Wednesdays high $325.85 should cap any upside.

Failure to move through the $319 pivot would bring the first major support level at $312 into play.

The late pullback saw Ripples XRP fall back through the second major resistance level.

At the time of writing, Ripples XRP was down by 1.48% to $0.24010. A bearish start to the day saw Ripples XRP slide from an early morning high $0.24382 to a low $0.24010.

Ripples XRP left the major support and resistance levels untested early on.

Ripples XRP will need to move back through the $0.2412 pivot to support a run at the first major resistance level at $0.2530.

Support from the broader market would be needed, however, for Ripples XRP to break out from Wednesdays high $0.25049.

Barring another broad-based crypto rally, the first major resistance level should cap any upside.

In the event of a breakout, Ripples XRP should test the second major resistance level at $0.2622 before any pullback.

First Mover: Ethereums Transition to Staking Could Push More Traders to Use Derivatives – Yahoo Finance

Ethereums biggest-ever upgrade is supposed to make the blockchain network faster and more efficient. But the new staking system could lock up so many of the networks native ether tokens that investors who want to trade them may have to rely on derivatives markets.

The blockchain, the worlds second-biggest, currently uses a validating mechanism similar to larger Bitcoins known as proof-of-work, where new data blocks and transactions are confirmed via power-hungry computers solving complex cryptographic puzzles.

Under Ethereums multi-year upgrade now underway, the network would shift to a proof-of-stake model, where investors validate transactions by staking ether on the blockchain in exchange for token rewards. Its a bit like depositing dollars into a bank account for interest, paid out in dollars.

A possible consequence, though, is the new staking system could soak up as much as 30% of the ether tokens in circulation, based on estimates from Adam Cochran, a partner at MetaCartel Ventures, a decentralized investment firm. An address needs to stake at least 32 ether tokens, worth about $12,400 at the current price, to become a validator in the proof-of-stake model.

Its possible to see a future scenario where the incentive to keep assets locked up on-chain is so great as to remove some liquidity from the market, says Diogo Monica, co-founder and president of the digital-asset custodian Anchorage, told CoinDesk in an email.

In May, a survey by the Ethereum developer Consensys found that 65% of ether investors were planning to stake the cryptocurrency under the new system, known as Ethereum 2.0, and half of those wanted to run validator nodes.

Most staking mechanisms have a lock-up period. Rocket Pool Staking, an Ethereum 2.0 staking service, offers staking terms ranging from three months to a year.

Some ether tokens might get locked in staking as the network upgrade proceeds. Ethereum 2.0 is being rolled out in three phases of what could end up being a multiyear process, with the original proof-of-work blockchain running in parallel until the two networks are merged at Phase 1.5.

Wilson Withiam, a research analyst at the cryptocurrency data firm Messari, told CoinDesk that ethers sent to the deposit contract will likely remain locked up until Phase 1.5, and that could cause a decline in the amount of ether readily available.

Cryptocurrency analysts say ether-staking yields of 3% to 5% would be so tantalizing at a time when government bonds carry near-zero or even negative yields that few investors would opt to leave their tokens in Uniswap or other decentralized trading systems where they could be accessed by traders.

In that case, people will have an incentive to create ways to buy and sell ether shares that abstract whether the underlying asset is currently being staked, Monica said.

Derivatives might be a solution.

Fixed income from staking could even be packaged as a distinct product. Holders who stake their coins could create voucher tokens representing a claim on the stake. Then they could trade the tokens for ether or other cryptocurrencies. So buyers could capture the yield without having to own the underlying asset.

As an alternative to selling voucher tokens, holders could deposit ether as collateral on decentralized lending and borrowing platforms.

Messaris Withiam says he thinks staking derivatives are inevitable.

It will give traders access to tradable assets so that they can continue to do what they do best, Withiam said. Exchanges will be able to offer new markets around these assets and potentially lock customers within their product suite if the synthetic assets arent transferable outside of the exchange.

For now, all this really just amounts to speculation over how speculators will want to speculate on ether.

But theres no lack of motivation: Plenty of cryptocurrency analysts say its possible ethers price could jump as demand increases for tokens to stake. Ethers price has tripled this year to about $390. Such returns far exceed bitcoins 56% gain on the year.

Story continues

Financial incentive to buy and hold both increases the security of the network, and could lead to dramatic price appreciation, said Connor Abendschien, an analyst at the research firm Digital Assets Data.

BTC: Price: $11,509 (BPI) | 24-Hr High: $11,521 | 24-Hr Low: $11,045

Trend:Bitcoin is showing signs of life with a near 3% rise to over $11,500 on Wednesday after a lackluster day yesterday.

The bulls will be hoping to maintain a foothold above $11,400, having failed to keep gains above that level in the previous two trading days. If successful, stronger buying interest may emerge, pushing prices to the psychological hurdle of $12,000 last put to test on July 27.

However, if the market fails to absorb selling pressure above $10,400, a re-test of the daily chart support at around $10,900 may be seen.

A continued bullish scenario looks likely with gold, an inflation-hedge, rallying to record highs above $2,000 and the U.S. dollar losing ground across the board. Both bitcoin and gold have recently moved in tandem, with Goldman Sachs warning that the greenback could lose its global reserve status.

The overall bias will stay bullish as long as prices are held above the former hurdle-turned-support at $10,500 (February high).

BNB Investors Remain Bullish on the Pending Binance IEO Announcement – Ethereum World News

In brief:

Back in mid-July, CZ Tweeted that the Binance Launchpad team was reviewed a list of promising crypto projects in hopes of selecting one as the next IEO on the platform. The last time the Binance Launchpad hosted a crowdfunding event was in April. As a result, Binance Coin (BNB) investors have been waiting paitently for an announcement from the team providing details of the next one.

Since the initial announcement by CZ, Binance Coin investors have expressed their optimism with respect to the upcoming IEO. Furthermore, some have taken to social media to remind the Binance team of their promise to announce the details of the next crowdfunding event on the platform as can be seen in the following Tweet.

Additionally, speculation is high that the next Binance Launchpad IEO will be a DeFi project

The excitement and anticipation of a new Binance Launchpad IEO has positively affected the value of Binance Coin (BNB) in the crypto markets. When CZ made the announcement that an IEO was in the pipeline, Binance Coin (BNB) was valued at $17. A quick glance at the BNB/USDT chart reveals that Binance Coin has since broken the $19 and $21 resistance level with the digital asset now consolidating at the $22 price level.

With the details of the Binance IEO yet to be announced, the value of Binance Coin (BNB) could continue on its upward trajectory. If the general crypto-market environment is maintained, BNB could possibly break other resistance levels such as $23, $24.5, $26.2 or even the February peak of $27.3.

As with all analyses of Binance Coin (BNB), traders and investors are advised to have an eye out for any sudden Bitcoin price movements that might affect their trading positions. Furthermore, stop losses and low leverage are advised to protect trading capital from sudden volatility.

Ethereum Price Hits $392 And Confirms Monthly Uptrend Not Seen Since 2017 – CryptoTicker.io

Ethereum had a massive breakout today above a long-term resistance level at $366 on Binance and $363 on Bitfinex. This breakout confirms a monthly uptrend for the Ethereum price, something not seen since 2017. Of course, the month has just started and Ethereums price still needs to close above this resistance level at the end of the month, however, its a crucial first step to reach the all-time high again.

ETH is obviously overextended now but FOMO is definitely playing a big role in keeping the bullish momentum alive. Ideally, the bulls would like to see Ethereums price breaking $400 before a healthy consolidation. They would also love to see a clear monthly close above $360 and absolutely confirm that monthly uptrend.

Looking at the monthly chart, we can observe basically no resistance levels to the all-time high above $1,400. ETH price might encounter a slight resistance point at $838, established in May 2018.

So, the monthly chart is not showing a lot of resistance, what about the weekly chart? The next resistance level seems to be located at $515,28, quite far from the current Ethereum price at $387. Bulls will also encounter some resistance at $838 as we mentioned before and then $979 before the all-time high.

Of course, psychological levels are important, especially $1,000 but shouldnt be a problem for the bulls considering the current momentum. The weekly chart has an overextended RSI, something that also hasnt happened since December 2017 when Ethereum crashed down to $83, months later.

The most important positive factor for Ethereums price is the increasing bull volume on the weekly chart after smashing all the important resistance levels. While the overall trading volume is still on the low end, it is increasing which is a positive sign for the bulls.

Perhaps the most significant metric is the huge increase in market dominance by Ethereum. On January 2020, Ethereum had a 7.3% market dominance and has now peaked at 12.22%, a massive surge compared to Bitcoin which lost 7 points.

We know the price of Ethereum is eventually going to see a pullback. However, its really hard to predict since FOMO is continuously pushing the price of Ethereum up. The daily chart is again extremely bullish and showing an increase in trading volume again. The RSI remains massively overextended at 90 points but a similar overextension was seen in February 2020.

If Ethereum starts consolidating, the nearest support level is located at $327,53, the 12-EMA, and then $293,38, the 26-EMA. There is also a $306 low formed on July 28. Considering how fast Ethereum went up, there are not many support levels below but EMAs should be enough for the bulls.

Buyers could also form another daily bull flag and consolidate only down to $360 before another leg up to convincingly close above $360 and confirm that monthly uptrend.

Ethereum and Reddit: The 5-day challenge and solutions – Somag News

Four possible applications could answer Reddits challenge to protocol developers on Ethereum. Until the deadline, which ended on July 31, a large number of proposals were observed by them.

Although most of the developers of applications on the Ethereum network did not present viable solutions, there are others that seem to be quite attractive. Some of them meet expectations and may be approved.

Reddits challenge to Ethereum users and developers is to provide an answer or solution to various network problems. Some are proposed to handle 100,000 specific claims, 25,000 subscriptions, 75,000 one-off point burns and 100,000 transfers.

The difficulty of this Reddit challenge to the Ethereum community increases with the short time they put in for a solution. Despite this, there are some proposals that seem to bring solutions.

Aztec is the first of the platforms to present possible solutions. To do this, they propose the implementation of a private Zk-Rollup package. This consists of, for example, the transactions that Reddit needs, are made through the Ethereum Blockchain network.

The weak point of this would be that the Gas charged for each movement would be higher than the cost of the transactions that are generally made of ETH.

Building transactions can take, in the longest case, up to 40 seconds. These require up to 3 minutes to be fully completed. The project promises an effort to improve interactions.

Another proposal for Reddits challenge to the Ethereum community comes from the OMG protocol, formerly OmiseGo. This consists of the use of plasma side chains to solve scalability problems.

It should be noted that Plasma has a functionality similar to Bitcoins Lightning Network. Both consist of improving the scalability of the Blockchain network. In the case of Plasma, it has existed since 2017 as a proposal of the founder of this network Vitalik Buterin together with Joseph Poon.

The functionality of this proposal of the Ethereum OMG protocol to Reddits challenge, is to create parallel chains of plasma. To do this, the application creates a Chrome extension, which can be adapted to the Reddit interface.

For its part, the Skale protocol proposes a decentralized cloud computing platform. It is a high performance proposal which is primarily designated by cloud computing.

Skale assures that, responding to Reddits challenge to the Ethereum network, involves providing attractive solutions. One of them is to eliminate transaction fees. In this way, the operation would be similar to what exists on the Amazon platform.

To do this, Reddit should create its own platform on the Skale Blockchain network and reimplement its Community Points logic. For the company it could have a cost between $ 350 and $ 44,000 USD. All this, they explain, depending on the size of the chain.
