Virginia Eugenics Victims Demand Compensation Before It's Too Late

For 55 years the commonwealth of Virginia took away close to 7,500 people's right to have children.

Under the commonwealth's sterilization law those classified as feeble minded, promiscuous, or even just seen as socially unacceptable were sterilized.

A shameful era in Virginia history that ended less than 40 years ago.

86-year-old Marine veteran Lewis Reynolds has been in the forefront of the fight to hold the government accountable, along with Attorney Mark Bold.

Reynolds was involuntarily sterilized at thirteen because he suffered from epileptic seizures. A procedure he didn't know took place until later when he enlisted. "I think they done me wrong, took my rights away from me, from having a family," Reynolds said.

Sisters Sadie and Janet Ingram are among the fifteen victims in Virginia who have come forward in the last 2 years. They too were unknowingly sterilized as teenagers.

North Carolina agreed last year to compensate each victim of that state's eugenics program $50,000, but a subcommittee rejected a similar bill in Virginia last week.

"We can't delay any longer. Mr. Reynolds is 86, next year he'll be 87. Time is not necessarily on his side so we need to provide compensation now," said Attorney Mark Bold.

Delegate Bob Marshall says he'll bring the bill back up on the house floor on Thursday, along with provisions ensuring $50,000 for each victim, to be paid immediately.

An opportunity for Virginia to right a wrong before it's too late.

Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) today signed a MoU at New Delhi, in the presence of His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa of the Kingdom of Bahrain, who is on a state visit to India. The MoU was signed by Sh. Ahmed bin Mohamed, Minister of Finance, Bahrain and Shri N. K. Maini, Deputy Managing Director, In-charge, SIDBI. A high level business delegation from Bahrain was also present on the occasion. In terms of the MoU, SIDBI would provide technical assistance / facilitate activities of BDB Group in the areas of risk management and credit appraisal, training of BDB Group officials in SME credit risk appraisal and related areas, in framing a suitable monitoring policy and NPA management system and in exploring tie up of Indian micro, small and medium enterprises with SMEs in Bahrain for mutual benefit. Speaking on the sidelines of the MoU signing ceremony, NK Maini mentioned that, the MOU while providing a fee based income to SIDBI derived from sharing its knowledge and learning with Bahrain Development Bank, the MoU will also enable Indian micro, small and medium enterprises to expand their business to Bahrain. SIDBI is Indias apex level development finance institution for the development, promotion and financing of MSMEs in India. BDB is Bahrains leading Development Financial Institution in Bahrain. Its mission is to promote entrepreneurship and innovation, develop the small and medium enterprises and assist in the self-employment in Bahrain through its financial and advisory services. SIDBI has been working on addressing identified gaps in the MSME eco system and develop niche products, processes and delivery channels to address various gaps, such as, financing both in debt and equity funding through structured and innovative products. Reihl Efficient, LLC achieves up to 86% energy savings on new installations of patented refrigeration technology

CLARE, Mich., Feb. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Reihl Efficient, LLC (Reihl) completed several installations of its patented Cool Vap evaporator coil system in December. Energy savings from the new retrofit systems measured as high as 86%. Eco Refrigeration Supply Company sold the systems and provided installation services.

Installations were completed at RGM Lucky Stop, Belle Plaza Liquor, and Niles Marathon in Niles, Michigan. Based on the energy testing before and after the installation of Reihl Efficient Cool Vap evaporator coils, rebates averaging $2,504 per unit were achieved. Cris Cyborg expects to fight Julia Budd or Ediane Gomes next at Invicta FC

Cris Cyborg returns to fighting in March, but it wont be for Invicta Fighting Championships.

Cyborg, who demolished previously unbeaten Jennifer Colomb under muay thai rules at Lion Fight 11 in Las Vegas, Nevada, last September, is set to compete for the inaugural Lion Fight welterweight championship on March 28 against Jorina Baars.

Lion Fight 14 takes place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and will be headlined by Gregory Choplin vs. Marco Pique.

"I hope I can do a great fight and show my muay thai skills," Cyborg told MMAFighting.com about her next muay thai contest. "The win is the consequence."

Like Cyborg, Baars also competes in MMA, but shes not as successful as the Brazilian. Baars is 1-3 in MMA, but Cyborg doesnt expect an easy win.

"Its really interesting that were both muay thai and MMA fighters," she said. "Jorina is a veteran, but Ill be ready for a war. I like challenges that makes me evolve as an athlete. I believe shes more experienced than my first opponent."

Cyborg has no date set to return to MMA, but expects to be part of Invicta FCs next card.

"Im still waiting, but Ill definitely defend my title in the next edition," she said. "They are talking about two girls (to fight me), Julia Budd and Ediane Gomes."

Budd and Gomes are both undefeated under the Invicta FC banner. While she has no opponent set for her return, Cyborg keeps competing in other sports, and she doesnt rule out leaving MMA if she has more opportunities out there.

"I will compete wherever I have opportunities," she said. "If it happens that I only fight muay thai, why not? But for now Ill keep competing in jiu-jitsu, muay thai and wrestling to work on my game to fight MMA."
