BISMARCK The game is tied 37-37 with 48 seconds left on the clock, Westville takes a timeout to set up a play for the win, with the clock winding down the Tigers get the ball to Jicee Lacey, who had 12 points six rebounds, at the free-throw line. She turns and shoots and the ball goes in and out for a miss but Adrianne Pate, who had six points and 10 rebounds, grabs the rebound, but she cant get a good shot over the Oakwood defense as regulation time ends, its overtime.
In the overtime session, Oakwood claims a 44-43 victory over Westville.
This is the way a fourth-seed and a fifth-seed should be, a close, hard-fought game that has many lead changes and an extra period to decide who moves on to play another night.
Oakwood Coach Jeff Ford said, I thought we did a much better job tonight than two weeks ago on their shooters with getting a hand up while they were shooting.
Oakwood drew first blood in overtime getting the ball to Sadie Edwards, who had seven points five in the overtime and five assists, down on the post. As she makes her move she get fouled and make the shot for an old-fashion three-point play giving the Comets a 40-37 lead.
Westville comes back with a basket to close the gap 40-39 with 1:03 left in overtime.
During the last minute of overtime, Oakwood ices the game from the free throw line going 4-for-4. Westville gets two more buckets but cannot overcome the Comets, as the buzzer sounds Oakwood has claimed a hard-fought victory over Westville.
I thought we played hard and under control tonight and that helped us pull out the victory, Ford said.
As the game started it was apparent that it would be a close hard-fought game.
It started like a heavyweight fight as both teams were feeling each other out to see if there would be any new wrinkles in the game as it was the fourth meeting of the year.

Newswise JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Patients with a common form of lung cancer lung squamous cell carcinoma have very few treatment options. That situation may soon change.
A team of cancer biologists at Mayo Clinic in Florida is reporting in the Feb. 10 issue of Cancer Cell the discovery of two oncogenes that work together to sustain a population of cells in lung squamous cell carcinoma, which may be responsible for the lethality of the disease. When these cells, termed cancer stem cells, are inhibited, tumors cannot develop.
MULTIMEDIA ALERT: Video and audio are available for download on the Mayo Clinic News Network.
Cancer stem cells are a small population of cells in a tumor that can self-renew and grow indefinitely. They resist most treatments and are thought to be responsible for relapse, says the studys senior author, Alan P. Fields, Ph.D., the Monica Flynn Jacoby Professor of Cancer Studies at Mayo Clinic in Florida.
If you can shut down cancer stem cells, you may be able to stop relapse after therapy, he says.
The study, which is featured on the cover of Cancer Cell, builds upon years of research by Dr. Fields and his colleagues on a cancer-causing gene protein kinase C iota (PKCiota). They were the first to discover the connection between PKCiota and initiation, promotion and spread of lung cancers, including lung squamous cell carcinoma, which accounts for 3040 percent of all lung cancer. The researchers found that the PKCiota gene is errantly repeated numerous times in lung squamous cell carcinoma cells through a genetic alteration termed gene amplification. PKCiota gene amplificationis associated with poor patient survival. Subsequently, they discovered that PKCiota is necessary to maintain cancer stem cells in these tumors, but how it did that was not clear.
The newly released study defines the process. The researchers discovered that PKCiota and a second oncogene, SOX2, found in the same region of chromosome 3 known as 3q26, are coordinately amplified and overexpressed in a majority of lung squamous cell carcinomas. The study further shows that these two oncogenes are also functionally linked in these tumors.
We now know that PKCiota activates SOX2, meaning that these two genes are not just genetically linked by amplification, but also biochemically and functionally linked in promoting lung squamous cell carcinoma, says the studys lead author, Verline Justilien, Ph.D., an instructor of cancer biology at Mayo Clinic in Florida.

A new Olympics-themed Coca-Cola commercial features the International Space Station while recycling the soft drink company's own history in space.
The minute-long TV ad, which shows a U.S. astronaut and a Russian cosmonaut aboard the orbiting outpost watching their two nations going head-to-head in an Olympic hockey match on Earth, includes the return of the special can that Coca-Cola designed for a 1985 space shuttle mission.
The commercial may have drawn inspiration from the real-life journey of an Olympic torch to the International Space Station (ISS) last November. The same torch was used to light the cauldron as a part of the opening ceremony of the 22nd Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
The advertisement shows the two jersey-clad crewmates rooting for their respective teams while sipping from valve-capped Coke cans. When the U.S. scores, the cosmonaut reacts by spilling out his soda in a fit of frustration. In the microgravity environment of space, the soft drink floats off in spherical blobs and bubbles. [Watch now: Coca-Colas ISS TV commercial]
The scene then switches pace, underscored by the use of the "Light Calvary Overture" by Austrian composer Franz von Supp, as the two station residents quickly float off to catch as much of the soda with their mouths. The rivalry gives way to camaraderie as the cosmonaut swoops in to avoid the carbonated drink from shorting out an exposed electronics panel at the far end of the module.
The clip, while fictional, is not too far from reality.
"I think there will be some friendly competition, especially if the Russian and U.S. hockey teams meet head to head. That would always be interesting," NASA astronaut Rick Mastracchio said from the real International Space Station during a recent interview with Space.com.
Just as is shown in Coca-Cola's commercial, Mastracchio and his crewmates are able to watch the Olympic games via video uplinked by NASA's Mission Control in Houston.
"We will have some of the Olympic events sent up to us, tape delayed, but we will also get some live," Mastracchio said. "On the weekends, they'll often uplink a TV station, and of course we'll ask for the Olympic events to be sent."
The crew doesn't have to have to worry about spilling their Cokes, however the space station is soda free. While Mastracchio and his five Expedition 38 crewmates have other drinks they can sip from, including juice and coffee, the Coca-Cola Company's plans to launch a zero-g Coke machine fizzled out in the mid-1990s.

Syrian Arab Red Crescent trucks stand in the besieged neighbourhoods of Homs to supply humanitarian aid, February 8, 2014. Reuters pic, February 10, 2014.Aid teams evacuated hundreds of exhausted civilians from besieged Homs city yesterday, as Syria's regime and rebels again accused each other of violating a truce ahead of new peace talks.
The evacuation of around 600 of the 3,000 trapped people came as representatives from both sides converged on Geneva.
Yesterday's evacuation was the second in three days after a UN-brokered truce for besieged districts of Syria's third city began on Friday.
Five men were killed when one besieged district was hit by mortar fire during yesterday's evacuation, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
They were the latest deaths in a nearly three-year conflict that has killed 136,000 people and displaced millions.
The Observatory and the Syrian Red Crescent said some 600 people had been evacuated from the Old City of Homs yesterday.
The Red Crescent said on Facebook "around 600 people evacuated today, registration is still ongoing".
"We managed to get 60 food parcels & 1500Kg of flour inside old city."
The Observatory said 611 were brought out "210 women, 180 children, 91 men over 55 years old and 130 young men who surrendered to Syrian authorities under UN supervision," adding the men "will be released soon".
