Comets Unable to Beat Syracuse on the Road

January 10, 2014 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Missouri Comets INDEPENDENCE, Missouri (January 10, 2013) - The Missouri Comets continue to struggle in Syracuse, tonight falling by the score 11-8. Four different players found their way onto the score sheet for the Comets, including league-leader Vahid Assadpour. In the end, it wasn't enough though as the Syracuse Silver Knights scored five goals in the 3rd quarter to secure their win.

Both teams came into tonight's game with records of 5-3. The Comets looked much better than that early. Lucas Rodriguez only needed 44 seconds to get the Comets on the board. Later in the quarter, Brian Harris took a shot from distance that bounced through the defense. Ramone Palmer bounced on the rebound to score. Milan Ivanovic found the corner netting with a blistering shot from the right side to give the Comets a 6-0 halftime lead.

Syracuse came out for the second half with determination. Within the first three minutes they had cut the score down to 6-5 with scores from Bozidar Jelovac and Nate Bourdeau. Knights' forward Neto gave Syracuse their first lead shortly after that with a two point goal from the left side. Missouri's Vahid Assadpour retook the lead for the Comets by scoring his league leading seventeenth goal. Cory Elenio answered right back for the Knights and then Neto scored his second of the night with less than 30 seconds left in the quarter.

Down 11-8 entering the fourth quarter, the Comets controlled possession. They outshot the Knights nearly 2-1 in the quarter. However, they were unable to score as Syracuse fell into a defensive shell throughout the quarter. Neither side would score in the final frame as the Knights held on to defeat the Comets 11-8.

The Comets will look to rebound immediately as they travel to face the Pennsylvania Roar tomorrow night at Santander Arena. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:05p.m. CT. A streaming broadcast of the game can be seen on the Comets website, CometsIndoorSoccer.com/Live-Feed.
