Able Aerospace Services New Facility Now Offering Expanded Capabilities and New Products

Mesa, Ariz., September 23, 2013 Able Aerospace Services, an MRO service and PMA parts provider, and one of the worlds largest helicopter repair facilities, has completed the companys move to its new, larger headquarters located at Phoenix-Gateway Airport. This move to a brand new, fly-in custom-designed facility allows for additional capabilities in areas including advanced metal finishing, hydraulic repair and on-site aircraft repair. Members of the Able team will be available for meetings and inquiries during Helitech International 2013, September 24-26, exhibit B33 at the ExCel London Convention Center.

Some 350 employees now occupy over 191,000 square feet of engineering and manufacturing space, including a new purpose-built hangar, capable of accommodating aircraft sized up to a B737. The new hanger allows for expanded airframe maintenance, refurbishments, inspections and complete aircraft teardown. Other new or expanded turnkey capabilities include machining, non-destructive testing, computerized welding, paint, complete fixed-wing and rotor-wing component repairs all completed in-house within the new facility.

As the largest metal finishing and chemical processing facility in Arizona, Able now has the capability to handle all types of required aircraft component plating and refinishing processes in-house. Ables investment of over $1.4 million in state-of-the-art zero-discharge environmental technologies exceeds all city, state and federal environmental guidelines, while nearly doubling capacity from the previous location. Due to our expanded in-house capacity and metal finishing capabilities, customers have enjoyed reduced turnaround times, some as much as 50 percent, said Anthony Saenz, president of Able.

Able Aerospace Services repairs and overhauls parts for rotor-wing and fixed-wing aircraft, specializing in FAA-approved repair alternatives to buying new parts. By offering over 8,000 safe, certified component repairs, fleet operators and owners can save tens of thousands of dollars on parts that are of the same or better form, fit and function than new OEM parts. Our FAA-certified repairs and replacement parts offer our customers the most cost-effective alternative to OEM parts and services, greatly reducing operating costs for fleet owners and operators, added Saenz. Now with our new facility, our customers will further benefit from our increased services and 100 percent in-house capabilities, allowing for greater quality and reduced turnaround times.

Polk State College Sets Itself Apart With Aerospace Degree

Published: Monday, September 23, 2013 at 12:40 a.m. Last Modified: Monday, September 23, 2013 at 12:40 a.m.

WINTER HAVEN | A fourth baccalaureate degree soon will be offered at Polk State College, now that the State Board of Education has approved an aerospace science degree.

The degree program, granted unanimous approval by the state board Tuesday, will start in the fall.

Polk State College will be the first public college or university in Florida to offer the degree, spokeswoman Rachel Pleasant said.

It is yet another step in a building aerospace program the school began this year. In January, PSC launched an associate of science in professional pilot program that prepares students to become pilots and flight instructors.

An associate of science in aerospace administration was added in August, designed to train students for management positions at airports, airlines and in a variety of related operations.

PSC President Eileen Holden said in a statement the new degree is a "milestone" for PSC and its region.

"Our aerospace program was developed to address, on a local level, an international need for pilots, flight instructors, and other aviation personnel," she said in a statement. "Now, with the bachelor's degree, we will be able to provide more advanced training to better address those needs and prepare our students for successful careers in aviation."

The developments in aviation education were a reaction to demand from local airports, the Central Florida Aerospace Academy and other entities within the aviation community.

Dave Steele, associate vice president of communications and public affairs for the school, said the bachelor's degree is a great next step.
