LMI Aerospace Receives "Supplier of the Year" Award From

ST. LOUIS, April 19, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- LMI Aerospace, Inc. (Nasdaq:LMIA), a leading provider of design engineering services and supplier of structural assemblies, kits and components to the aerospace and defense markets, today announced that the company has been recognized as a Supplier of the Year in the Leaders Choice-Alliance category by The Boeing Company. LMI was one of 16 companies honored last night for distinguished performance in working with Boeing.

In January, LMI was notified that it was one of five Leaders Choice recipients that received special nomination, which is necessary in achieving this designation. The award acknowledges superior performance and labels Supplier of the Year winners as best of the best.

"These partners are critical to helping Boeing provide our customers the most affordable, highest quality products and services possible," said Jack House, leader of Boeing's Supplier Management function. He added that Boeing must have a global supply chain that is capable of recognizing and reducing risk, while demonstrating a strong commitment to customer service and consistent performance excellence.

This year's winners represent an elite group among more than 23,000 active Boeing suppliers in nearly 52 countries around the world. This selection of the Leaders Choice category recipients was based on performance criteria such as competitive advantage, exceeding cost performance, outstanding improvements during the award year and contribution to new products.

"All of our employees are very proud of the Leaders Choice award by Boeing. We've partnered with Boeing for many years and are grateful for the recognition," said Ronald S. Saks, Chief Executive Officer of LMI.

"The award was due, in part, to LMI's efforts to mentor three suppliers in South Carolina. We approached Boeing with the mentoring suggestion and provided strategic leadership, technical knowledge, and functional best practices in collaborating with the businesses. We were pleased not only with the reception of the suppliers and Boeing, but also with the development opportunity it provided for the support team that worked on the project. We are continuing our support of the mentoring program as we have found it to be a truly rewarding experience for all involved."

To the moon? Bigelow Aerospace and NASA look at private exploration

Bigelow Aerospace / NBCNews.com

A mockup created by Bigelow Aerospace shows a moon base with inflatable modules.

By Alan Boyle, Science Editor, NBC News

Bigelow Aerospace and NASA say they've agreed to look at ways for private ventures to contribute to human exploration missions, perhaps including construction of a moon base. But the space agency emphasized that it's keeping its own focus squarely on corraling an asteroid and then going to Mars.

"As part of our broader commercial space strategy, NASA signed a Space Act Agreement with Bigelow Aerospace to foster ideas about how the private sector can contribute to future human missions," David Weaver, the space agency's associate administrator for communications, said in a statement emailed to NBC News.

"This will provide important information on possible ways to expand our exploration capabilities in partnership with the private sector," Weaver said. "The agency is intensely focused on a bold mission to identify, relocate and explore an asteroid with American astronauts by 2025 all as we prepare for an even more ambitious human mission to Mars in the 2030s. NASA has no plans for a human mission to the moon."

Eyes on the moonThe moon, however, ranks high among the targets that Bigelow Aerospace has in mind. The Nevada-based company has been working on moonbase concepts for years. During a recent interview on the "Coast to Coast AM" radio show, billionaire founder Robert Bigelow said the potential objectives for private-sector space efforts include a lunar base as well as space stations or refueling depots placed at gravitational balance points in the Earth-moon system.

"We're making no bones about it, that's what we're out to try to accomplish," Bigelow said.

Mike Gold, a Washington-based spokesman for Bigelow Aerospace, explained that his company wanted to help "commercial space achieve escape velocity from LEO," or low Earth orbit.

Gold said the NASA-Bigelow agreement would build on the work done by SpaceX, Orbital Sciences Corp. and other companies to build new spaceships for trips to the International Space Station. "What this is doing is projecting that forward, and exploring what commercial companies can do both to lower the cost of beyond-LEO operations, and to create enhanced capabilities," he said.

Grimm Review: One Memory At A Time

"Ring of Fire" keeps the serial elements to a minimum for Grimm Season 2.

With Hank and Rosalee taking a break from the canvas, the most unlikely of trios formed to keep Portland safe and weird: Renard, Monroe, and Nick.

Overwhelming Memories

While serial elements accomplish two things: the first being it keeps reviews and the analysis fresh, and the second being is I enjoy storytelling that moves at a faster pace. In the course of a 22-episode season, however, it’s sometimes refreshing to take a small step away from season long plots to just have an enjoyable time with a show and characters you love.

It was basically like guys night out, but in typical Grimm fashion.

The serial elements that are here focused entirely on Adalind and Juliette. Juliette’s memories are both sweet and annoying. By taking one memory at a time we get to see Nick and Juliette back when things are good for them. This flashback brings me back to a time when I actually enjoyed her character, yet the way Juliette gets to this point is contrived.

The memories of Nick are overwhelming her, and that’s not the problem. The biggest problem is Juliette needs to first break things off with Nick and then seek guidance with Spiritual Grandma… who tells her the painfully obvious of taking one memory at a time.

The legitimate reasons why Juliette needs to break up with Nick and be told the painfully obvious are few and far between, and it’s continually damaging to her character. Build up is one thing, but I don’t need painful, six month long ‘90s-esque soap opera storyline stalls to bring Juliette to just about the same point in time to where she was last season.

Adalind’s story focuses on Frau Pech and how much she can get for her royal baby. Adalind, much like Juliette, is focusing on her past, and she’s willing to give up her baby to the highest bidder so long as they can find a way to get her Hexenbiest powers back. It makes me wonder, since her baby is predominantly Hexenbiest if Adalind is coming up to a crossroad. The baby could be the answer to having a fresh set of powers, but at what cost to the baby?

A Few More Thoughts:

  • NBC has cancelled Ready for Love, and Grimm will be heading to Tuesdays at 10 starting April 30th for the rest of the season.
  • More Bud scenes please.
  • “El Diablo” is unlike anything we’ve seen even in Grimm’s world.

Mead Johnson Nutrition's Stock Is Now Efficiently Valued

Mead Johnson Nutrition (MJN) is up 19% since being recommended at $68 in early December 2012. $81 was my price target, based on a 9% five-year EPS growth rate.

While some consumer staples stocks have gone up more in the search for dividend yield, those stocks still have the private label specter hanging over them and will have continual sales volume pressure in the US and most likely in Europe as well. MJN should not have the pricing pressure as long as prices are not raised, which should make MJN a safer long-term holding than other staples stocks, many of which are overvalued at this point. But Mead Johnson's 1.8% yield will not be competitive in the shorter term.

The stock had flirted with $81 but fell back to the low 70s when Chinese law changed -- it no longer allows individuals to buy large amounts of Mead's formula in Hong Kong and take it to the mainland to resell. This sort of distributional curiosity was caused by a consumer overreaction to the sale of formula by domestic Chinese companies that had tainted domestic milk in it. This was about five years ago. Mead's Hong Kong formula is imported from The Netherlands, while its formula that is sold in mainland China is manufactured in China, but made from imported milk. A disproportionate amount of Chinese sales were being made via Hong Kong, so sales have been affected.

As a premier formula seller in China, I feel that it is just a matter of time, and some advertising, before sales are back to normal. The stock had been moving up on just that thought, I believe. Then the stock got to $81 after Danone (DANOY) reported strong formula sales in China and the Far East. Overall pricing was up 9% vs. the Street's expectation of 6%. That makes me feel better about the longer-term pricing level maintenance for Mead, though I would not raise my EPS growth rate for it.

I would be somewhat leery, however, about the fact that some of the pricing taken by Danone, the No. 2 seller in China, may have come from sales problems at Mead. Danone just came out with some new products, but it also seems too easy to conclude that Mead's sales adjustment from Hong Kong to mainland China formula has been discounted in one quarter.

Therefore, earnings to be reported on April 25 may be somewhat disappointing vs. the optimism engendered by the Danone report.
