Governor Bill Richardson Joins Fuel Freedom Foundation's Board of Advisors

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 22, 2013) - Fuel Freedom Foundation announced today that former governor of New Mexico Bill Richardson has joined their board of advisors. Richardson's accomplished career in public service will help drive the organization further toward its goal of creating open competition in the transportation fuels market.

Fuel Freedom is a nonpartisan, nonprofit campaign that advocates for the end of the oil monopoly, which will enable cheaper, cleaner, American-made replacement fuels to compete fairly with gasoline at the pump.

Richardson will be joining a distinguished board of advisors that includes former president of Shell Oil, John Hofmeister, former Central Intelligence Agency director, Jim Woolsey and former Rockefeller Foundation president, Peter Goldmark.

Prior to joining Fuel Freedom, Richardson completed two successful terms as governor of New Mexico, beginning in 2002, through January of 2011. In 1997, he served for fifteen years representing the third congressional district of New Mexico in the United States Congress. In the Clinton administration, Richardson served as energy secretary and United States ambassador to the United Nations. He has had a long and successful career in public service, academia and in the private sector.

"Fuel Freedom Foundation is dedicated to breaking America's oil addiction and promoting the development of American-made replacement fuels. Ending the oil monopoly is critical for the United States," said Governor Richardson. "Introduction of replacement fuels into our economy will not only lower the price of fuel at the pump, but will create much needed jobs here at home. I am looking forward to using my experience in public service to help make this a reality."

New Mexico became a "Clean Energy State" under Governor Richardson's leadership by requiring utilities to meet 20% of New Mexico's electrical demand from renewable sources; and established a Renewable Energy Transmission Authority to deliver New Mexico's renewable resources to market. Additionally, Richardson's leadership helped the state progress in the areas of education, transportation and the environment.

"Until barriers to fuel competition are removed, Americans will suffer increasing economic hardship due to high oil prices. Creating competition in the fuel market will drive gasoline prices down, and this is Fuel Freedom Foundation's ultimate goal," said Eyal Aronoff, co-founder of Fuel Freedom Foundation. "I am more than pleased that Governor Richardson is joining our board of advisors and has dedicated a portion of his time to help us fight this battle and end the monopoly on oil."

Please visit http://www.fuelfreedom.org to learn more about how you can join Fuel Freedom to get involved and help end America's addiction to oil.

About Fuel FreedomThe Fuel Freedom Foundation is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking our oil addiction by working to open the transportation fuels market so our cars and trucks can run on cheaper, cleaner, healthier American replacement fuels. Consumers could easily convert their cars to run on replacement fuels, but outdated regulations and entrenched commercial interests stand in the way. The Fuel Freedom campaign aims to remove barriers to competition so that natural gas, methanol, ethanol and electricity can compete on equal footing with gasoline at the pump and at the dealership. Achieving Fuel Freedom will lower fuel prices, create jobs, spur economic growth, reduce pollution, and improve national and global security. Bikini ban on United Arab Emirates beaches extends to tourists

Sept. 6, 2012 - FILE photo of a woman reading the Koran on a beach as people in bikinis sunbathe and swim at sunset in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.AP

RAS AL-KHAIMAH, United Arab Emirates Bikinis and briefs are no longer welcome on some sands in the United Arab Emirates.

Authorities in Ras al-Khaimah, the northernmost emirate in the UAE, have posted signs on public beaches warning of possible fines for revealing swimwear such as two-piece bikinis for women and brief trunks for men.

The Abu Dhabi-based newspaper The National reports Monday that the move followed complaints from local families who didn't like sharing the sands with tourists showing too much skin. The emirate is located about 60 miles northeast of Dubai.

The UAE hosts a patchwork of different social mores among its seven semi-autonomous emirates, ranging from conservative to relatively liberal. Dubai for example urges "respectful" attire but rarely objects to outfits such as miniskirts or bikinis.

Santa Cruz beaches make Yahoo's list of most searched

SANTA CRUZ -- Whether daydreaming at the office or picking a place for a family vacation, a high percentage of people are plugging "Santa Cruz beach" into the Yahoo search engine, according to data provided by the Sunnyvale company.

In a seven-day snapshot ending April 16, Santa Cruz beach was the fourth most searched beach on Yahoo, only beat by South Carolina's Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach and Panama City Beach in Florida.

The search company was unable to provide specific numbers, and would only say the data was based on the volume of searches over seven days in which a spike was seen for Santa Cruz.

"Every April we start to see people searching for beaches," said Carolyn Clark, a Yahoo web trend analyst. "We like to keep a pulse on what people are searching for. People are deliberate in their searches."

On a balmy Thursday without a cloud in the sky and the rumble of Boardwalk rides echoing across the warm sand at Main Beach, it was easy to see why folks are seeking out the laid back surf town online.

"It's a nice big beach with a lot of sand area versus the more rocky beaches," said Stephanie Randazzo, a resident of the Los Gatos mountains visiting Santa Cruz with a group of new mothers. "It's a fun environment with the Boardwalk right here."

The search engine spike is welcome news to the many businesses in Santa Cruz that depend on tourist traffic to survive, especially during the upcoming summer months.

With

The Boardwalk has a slew of new additions to keep drawing fans, including the new $6 million roller coaster called Undertow, which should be running by June.

The amusement park also will put in a new Cyclone and add Jungle Climb, a game in which guests climb a string ladder and press a button at the top to win.
