Northbound

Waking up with a mild hangover in near volcanic heat was not the best introduction to the day but there was no time to dwell on this as I had to be on my way. It was first back to Saja's office to get my documents for my trip. As with all Indian establishments I had seen Saja's office seemed to also be a local hangout for a large group of friends and colleagues of sorts. Today was no different a

Small Town Discoveries

Driving to Alaska

Day 4If you've ever thought about driving across Canada to Alaska I say go for it. But a word of caution check with the visitors center of the town prior to taking a cutoff especially if you have a deadline. We had the idea that we wanted to go by Whistler to see where the Olympic ski events had taken place. This was really great as we love the winter Olympics. Unfortunately we did not check b

First National Park Stop

We got off to a bit of a rough start couldn't get my car on the car tow. Spent nearly 1 12 hours getting it done. Now that we have it figured out we will make better time.Set off to cross the Rockies mid state. After looking at the map we figured we could save some gray hair by taking a more southern route and then cross over to Mesa Verde park. It was a smoother ride less hairpins and

Tuesday Really nice weather today though really windy this afternoon. Finally got to see some wildlife today one coyote several swans including two adults that we saw on the way up with 4 signets that hatched since we came by on the way up and bright iridescent blue dragon flies. The coyote was a female that had obviously just had a litter she was on the road begging for a handout.

Week 5 6

Well it is time for another exciting update in the Barrett family travels. Our last blog saw us packing the car with our tent and heading up to Cape Leveque to camp on the beach. The road up was pretty rough and left Jack feeling a bit car sick. Were however rewarded in our efforts when we arrived at Middle Lagoon. The water and beach was pristine. The kids absolutely loved the expansive shallow

Out of Alaska back to Haines Junction

There was a lot more road construction on the Alaska side of the border than when we came through eleven days ago. Once we crossed the border back into Yukon Territory we had more than 4 miles of loose muddy gravel road. To make it even worse we were stuck behind a road grader going 4 to 5 miles an hour. After we got back onto paved road a coyote was standing in the middle of the road look

I first heard of the Museum of Tolerance in the film The Freedom Writers and as it was such an amazing film I wanted to go to the museum. And boy was it amazing. Beijing China

We flew from Shenzhen to Beijing early yesterday morning. Upon arrival Yoyo and Wonder039s friend Suzanna and her husband picked us from the airport to take us to our hotel. They only spoke Mandarin so it was real test of our nontranslational and body language reading skills. We had no idea what the hell was going on. We were turned away from the hotel that Binnson039s relatives had or
