Return to the journey
6th BlogI donrsquot think days have dates or names at 4.00 am especially in winter but that was the time that we had to arise to get back to Alice Springs on Tuesday 22nd June. Tiger Airways got us back by 9.00 am local and our car was returned to us by a friend that lives in Alice Springs. It was not long before we had stocked up on a few things and were on our way back to Glen Helen resort

Day 9 Fresno CA to Point Reyes CA
We made it to the coast today....approximately 2800 mi from home. We're not even halfway though our trip Started out at 8 am today. Ate free breakfast at the motel. I thought we would run into some traffic around Oakland and Berkley but I580 was smooth sailing. We exited the freeway to CA1 Shoreline drive around 12pm. Saw the beginnings of some of the redwoods but won't really see the b

Day 5 Hope to Quesnel
Following the Gold Rush TrailOh the things wersquove seen Our drive from Hope to Quesnel took us through the Fraser Canyon. I cannot begin to find the words to describe how truly magnificent this drive is. Pictures do not do it justice although we took plenty of them. There was rain off and on but that did not in any way detract from the experience. In fact there were times when driving t
Vancouver Day Three
According to Julia I snore. Loudly. I refuse to accept this as truth but woke up in the morning vaguely aware of getting an elbow or two in the ribs the night before. Oh the joys of sharing a bed. My friend Mike lent us his car and so Julia and I ventured out to Lynn Canyon Park in North Vancouver. Most tourists head to the Capilano suspension bridge but why fight the crowds and pay a smal
Vancouver Day Two
According to Julia ACDC is the best band ever. Prior to our trip she discovered that they had recorded in a studio on Powell street in Vancouver. Our mission on Day 2 was to find said studio and at least touch the same door handle as her lsquorock godsrsquo. And so with 100 Powell street as one of our objectives we headed out to explore Vancouver. Our friends Mike and Sandra served as

The Master Craftsman
A backpacker visited a Zen master to have a cup of tea. While the tourist was drinking the tea the master was subjected to some questions about Zen. ldquoMaster what is ZenldquoMaster why is Zen ldquoMaster can I have some milk for my teardquoldquoMaster is Zen ZenrdquoThe Master got up and started fiddling with the visitors pack. From within his robes the Master produced an u

Sleeping in until 730 feels like such a luxury Except for the part that we live across the street from a few car shops and I woke up to a grinder bright and early in the morning. Go figure. I guess I canrsquot escape the damn grinder anywhere In case any one is confused the grinder is Alexrsquos favorite tool and he would use it to cut his fingernails if he could. I wouldnrsquo

Today we went out from the Fitzroy river again but this time with Shane. Shane works for the Fitzroy River Basin Association and is in charge of allocating funds to different community projects such as the one we are doing. Consequently most of our grant funds come from the FBA and Shane and he and his coworkers will be coming out on the boat with us every now and again. The drive to the ri

Today we went out from the marina the weather didnrsquot look to bad when we headed out. It was a real strange day though very cloudy and cold in the morning and sunny but cold in the afternoon with glass smooth seas. We got to the river but were puzzled to find absolutely nothing. Not even the birds were out fishing today. We barely saw any dolphins and if we did only from a distance.
Day X
So yesterday was my first day of my 3rd year of medical school. Kind of felt like I was jumping off of a cliff. I was ready and excited but also terrified and needed a bit of a push. It's the kind of thing that for me seem to be easier when you can kind of jump on your own terms without a lot of fanfare so it's a good thing that I live by myself. The last two days have been fairly unremarkab

We were up at 5 today and lucky us the weather looked gorgeous outside. Today was also the day we had to move out of the rental home so we had to make sure everything was packed into the car before we left for good. The boat was over the other house so we stopped there and dropped everything off. We headed to the marina about a half hour drive got the boat in the water and headed out. The
