Laid back

Having to catch the night bus tonight instead of the day train I had originally planned to take today I had a day to relax on my hands. I spent most of it enjoying a break from touring. I used some of that time to take care of my accommodations in Hanoi and looking at a guidebook on it and two nearby areas for day trips as Irsquoll be in that part of the country for the next week and a half. Our next leg of the journey was another surf binge. The northern coast of Peru is known for its long lefthand point breaks in desolate locations. FLORIDA: Can Debbie Wasserman-Shultz be beat? Freedom Fighter Rob Lowry takes her on

Former liberal inspired to the Right by the Fall of the Berlin Wall

It's got a pro-Democrat lean of +18 according to the Cook Report. The 20th District of Florida is currently represented by ultra-liberal Debbie Wasserman-Shultz. She is a regular on cable news shows, particularly MSNBC, known for bashing Republicans and anything on the right-side. Shultz has a perfect 100% liberal voting record, and has been particularly out on the forefront on socializing health care. If there's a far left cause, wild-eyed Wasserman-Shultz is on the tube ready to defend it.

For years the GOP has been putting up line-holder candidates who ran less-than-serious campaigns against her. Enter Robert Lowery.

A "Marco Rubio Republican"

Lowery has been called an "Americanist." He models himself after Florida Senate candidate and son of Cuban exiles from Communism Marco Rubio.

On illegal immigration such as the Middle East, Lowery stated:

"I am happy to see that Marco Rubio and I are on the same page. I’m all about Rubio."

From RedCounty.com:

In spite of the large registration advantage that Democrats enjoy in the 20th Congressional district, Lowry believes he can win the seat because he stands on the principles that this country was founded on. “Everyone is American first, family is second and party third,” Lowry explains.

Unwavering commitment to Capitalism

What may be most inspiring is that Lowery is a former liberal himself.

From his Bio:

A student of sociology in my early college experience, I was a committed liberal (as many students typically are) attending rallies and marching on Washington D.C. That was until travels to East Berlin, Prague, and other parts of Europe, opened my eyes to the dangers of socialism, causing me to take another look at my political commitments. I made a dramatic change to conservatism, and never looked back.

When I returned from my travels in Europe, I switched degree choices and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. I had found that the only way to effectively change the world was through sound economic principles, and a commitment to Free Market capitalism.

And in addition to being a hardened fighter against Communism and Communism lite (Obama-style Socialism), Lowry champions the cause of Americanist values and the fight against Radical Islam. His website boasts, "prepared to fight for freedom every step of the way."

Yes to the US Constitution; No to Sharia Law

At a recent rally (YouTube) against CAIR (Counsel of American Islamic Relations), Lowery said:

They seek to replace our own Constitution, the law of the land, with their own Sharia Law, and that is unacceptable...

Don't ever underestimate an angry American. Britain underestimated us with the first Tea Party movement 230 years ago. Germany's Hitler seriously underestimated America, and so did Japan. We are at War today ladies and gentleman. Make no mistake. We will win this War. This enemy is right in front of us. They're in our neighborhoods. They're in our schools. They're in our universities. We must not be afraid to defend our shores from the hate that is spreading through this great Nation like a cancer...

Lowry's passionate defense of freedom against Islamic radicalism has won him the enthusiastic endorsment of Ayn Randist blogger and frequent Floridian Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs:

Robert Lowry, a stand up guy stands up to CAIR. Lowry is running for Congress in the 20th district in Florida. I will only support canddates that will fight against the overthrow of America. Any candidate that ignores the greatest threat to America should be ignored. We must fill the halls of Congress with fighters who will beat back the Islamisation of America.

Republican Congressman Ted Poe of Texas, defends Dutch MP Geert Wilders on House floor

Stands up for Free Speech rights, against Political Correctness

Southeast Texas conservative Rep. Ted Poe, lauded controversial libertarian-leaning Dutch Member of Parliament on the floor of the US House on Thursday. Wilders has been under assault in his home country for criticizing Islamic extremism and increasing violence against Dutch citizens by Muslim youth.

New polling data shows Wilders now ahead of all potential rivals for Dutch Prime Minister. His Dutch Freedom Party stands to gain the most seats in Parliament for the June elections. The PVV recently won a majority of counsel seats in Alsmere, and the second largest amount of seats in The Hague.

Wilders is a friend and ally of U.S. libertarian/Ayn Randist Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs.

The pro-defense libertarian blog Gates of Vienna has the transcript:

Geert Wilders Is Prosecuted
And Persecuted for Free Speech
Hon. Ted Poe of Texas
In the House of Representatives

Thursday March 11, 2010

Mr. Speaker, freedom of speech continues to be shouted down by the politically correct police. In the Netherlands, it is against the law to say something that offends someone else’s religion. That is why Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders is on trial for hurting people’s feelings.

He made a movie about terrorists and radical Islamic clerics encouraging violence in the name hate. Now he is on trial for insulting Islam. He is charged with discrimination and incitement to hatred. Because Dutch law is intolerant of intolerance.

The Dutch courts say even truthful insult speech is a crime. Sounds like the law has become the enemy of free speech and a protector of the radicals.

Known as "Judge Poe," he is a former Air Force Reserves Veteran. He served as a Harris County Judge for a number of years, and was known for his unusual style of sentencing. Poe also was chosen by President Bush to be an official observer of elections in Iraq. He took the seat (Beaumont/Port Arthur/NE Houston) formerly held by Democrat Nick Lampson.

Muslim Men now suspects in 11 other shootings of Gays in San Francisco

LR FOLLOW-UP

The three Muslim men arrested for shooting a gay man in the face, on Guerrero Street in San Francisco two weeks ago, are now suspects in a series of other shootings.

The AP reports:

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Prosecutors who have charged three cousins with a hate crime for shooting a San Francisco man with a BB gun because they thought he was gay said Friday they're considering charging the suspects in 11 similar shootings.

A video recording recovered by police from a car belonging to Mohammad Habibzada, 24, and Shafiq Hashemi and Sayed Bassam, both 21, show the cousins shooting at the other victims, Assistant District Attorney Brian Buckelew said.

Note - there is no mention of the Islamic affiliation in the AP article of the three suspects.

Hockey Dad Tom Emmer ahead of Dem rivals for Minnesota Governor

LR FOLLOW-UP

From Eric Dondero:

We reported back in early February on the candidacy of Tom Emmer running for Minnesota Governor. Emmer is a state representative from the Otsego/Rockwell area. And according to the Minnesota Post he has definite libertarian leanings:

Tom Emmer, who is seen as more appealing to the Tea Party/Libertarian brand of Republicans who have become a growing factor in party politics...

Now, new poll numbers show Emmer doing quite well in general election match-ups with potential Democrat rivals. Out of six Democrats, Emmer would beat 4 of them; this despite the presence of Independent who polls 7 to 10%.

From Rasmussen via Hedgehog:

Mark Dayton (D) 38% (State Senator, frontrunner for Democrats)
Tom Emmer (R) 35%

Tom Emmer (R) 37%
Margaret Anderson Kelliher (D) 34% (Speaker of Minnesota House of Reps)

R.T. Rybak (D) 38% (Mayor of Minneapolis)
Tom Emmer (R) 35%

Tom Emmer (R) 36%
Tom Bakk (D) 29% (State Sen.)

Tom Emmer (R) 38%
Tom Rukavina (D) 29% (State Rep.)

Tom Emmer (R) 37%
Matt Entenza (D) 28% (State Rep.)

Though, Emmer must first beat Republican rival Cong. Marty Seifert in the GOP primary. Seifert is considered the slight frontrunner in that race.

Note - Emmer played hockey for the Univ. of Alaska-Fairbanks, Boston College and semi-pro for the USHL. He is currently active, serving in various capacities, with hockey leagues and sports arenas throughout Minnesota.
