Lokta Paper is the most environmentally friendly paper on earth. Lokta Paper is the most environmentally friendly paper on earth. It #39;s wildcrafted and handmade from the bark of a species of laurel bush indigenous to Nepal called Daphne Papyrus. The Lokta bush, as it is commonly called in Nepal, only grows at an altitude above 6500 ft in the high Himalayas. And when harvested, just like bamboo, it automatically regenerates. For almost a 1000 years the wild Nepalese Lokta bush has been harvested by hand and then handcrafted into Lokta Paper. Lokta Paper was traditionally used by the Buddhist Monks of Tibet to block print their sacred texts on. Today the Nepalese government still prints all of their official state documents on Lokta Paper because of it #39;s renowned properties of low acidity, strength and longevity. In fact, 800 year old Buddhist scriptures block printed on Lokta Paper are still in use today. Our Lokta paper is made in same centuries old, time honoured way by Nepalese artisans, with the proceeds supporting local economic development projects. Short telomeres tied to higher mortality in Indian Ocean warblers

By Tina Hesman Saey

Web edition: November 20, 2012

WARBLER LONGEVITY

A study of Seychelles warblers (shown) suggests the length of protective chromosome end caps is linked to the risk of dying.

Credit: University of East Anglia

The long and short of a birds life may be recorded in the tips of its chromosomes, a new study suggests.

A study of Seychelles warblers living on a small island in the Indian Ocean suggests that the length of telomeres bits of DNA that cap chromosome ends can predict a birds chance of dying better than its chronological age can. Warblers with shorter telomeres were less likely to survive another year, especially if the truncation happened rapidly, David S. Richardson, a molecular ecologist at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, and colleagues report online November 20 in Molecular Ecology.

The study provides very important evidence that backs up what has been found in the laboratory changes in telomere length matter a lot, says animal ecologist Pat Monaghan of the University of Glasgow in Scotland.

Increasing age and body mass were also linked to shorter telomeres in the birds. That result stands in contrast to a recent large study of people in northern California that found telomeres get shorter with age, but that higher body mass is associated with longer telomeres (SN Online, 11/11/12).

Boston Scientific Defibrillators Receive CE Mark for Extended Longevity

PARIS, November 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

Devices Projected to Have up to Twice the Longevity of Comparable Products

Boston Scientific Corporation has received CE Mark approval for increased longevity projections for the INCEPTA(TM), ENERGEN(TM), PUNCTUA(TM), COGNIS(R) and TELIGEN(R) implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) and cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillators (CRT-Ds). The longevity projections are based on data submitted to the European authorities and vary for each device dependent on the model type and settings.

Projected device longevity exceeds 10 years for some models of Boston Scientific ICDs, approaches eight years for its CRT-D devices, and is up to double that of comparable competitive device models[1]. The company supports these devices with warranties of up to 10 years*. Depending on the model, the device warranties are also up to twice as long as other currently-marketed comparable devices.

"We are pleased with the new labeling for our defibrillator products which provides doctors and patients with additional assurance about the longevity of these devices, " said Michael Onuscheck, senior vice president and president of Europe, Middle East and Africa at Boston Scientific. "Boston Scientific ICDs and CRT-Ds benefit from our proprietary advanced battery technology. The new battery was first introduced in the COGNIS and TELIGEN devices in 2008 and has now been incorporated into our newest devices. This European approval confirms the confidence already expressed earlier this year by the United Stated Food and Drug Administration."

"Device longevity is of primary importance for patients with devices. As patients live longer, increased device longevity can translate to fewer replacement procedures and a lower risk of complications, " said Vias Markides, consultant cardiologist and chair of Arrhythmias, Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, London. "Reducing re-intervention also has an important impact on the health care economy, offering substantial savings to service commissioners and offering operational advantages for device implanting services. Boston Scientific ICDs and CRT-D devices have shown a substantial increase in longevity projections, which is backed up by an impressive warranty."

* Warranties: INCEPTA and ENERGEN VR ICD: 10 years; INCEPTA and ENERGEN DR ICD: eight years; PUNCTUA and TELIGEN ICD: seven years; INCEPTA and ENERGEN CRT-D: six years; and PUNCTUA & COGNIS CRT-D: five years.

Longevity Global Inc. Introduced A New Mig Welding Machine For Industry’s Complex Operations

Longevity Global Inc. has recently launched a new technologically advanced MIG WELDER. Their new product line the MIGWeld 303P is the ultimate resemblance of cutting edge technology and expert engineering. This new welding machine has been designed to give the best seamless welding on both aluminum and steel metals. As mig welding is full of adversity, welding factories continuously are in need of such advanced and user friendly equipment which can reduce the degree of labor in the welding jobs.

Hayward, CA (PRWEB) November 20, 2012

Mig Weld 303P Pulse MIG welder is the latest addition in Longevity Global Inc.'s welder line. This machine is newly designed for industrial welding applications. With a new and improved internal wire feed system and spool gun compatibility, the mig weld 303P competes with top model MIG welders in the industry. This MIG welder requires 3 Phase 220V power supply which can be found in most industrial applications or generators. This MIG welder comes with full amperage and speed adjustments for faster or slower hand speeds on thicker or thinner material. This MIG welder is also equipped with full pulse amperage settings with complete adjustment for better quality welds. Gas shielding can be used with this machines giving the best looking welds possible. This machine is great for light weight or heavy gauge industrial use and can be equipped with a separate hand speed controlled spool gun for welding aluminum or other materials. The machine is competitively priced, including a free 5 Year parts and labor warranty.

Mig Welding is a welding process in which an electric arc forms between a consumable wire electrode and the workpiece metal(s), which heats the workpiece metal(s), causing them to melt, and join. Along with the wire electrode, a shielding gas feeds through the welding gun, which shields the process from contaminants in the air. The process can be semi-automatic or automatic. A constant voltage, direct current power source is most commonly used with Mig welding, but constant current systems, as well as alternating current, can be used. There are four primary methods of metal transfer in mig welding, called globular, short-circuiting, spray, and pulsed-spray, each of which has distinct properties and corresponding advantages and limitations. Along with the welding equipment, cutters and portable generators, Longevity Global Inc. has also stocked its inventory with diverse range of plasma cutter consumables which are scarce to find in any other conventional welding accessory shop.

Longevity Welding is providing its dedicated service since 2001. It is growing at a phenomenal pace with high customer satisfaction, innovative products and efficient industrial production. The 2012 Fondation Ipsen Longevity Prize Has Been Awarded to Prof. Linda Fried for Her Outstanding Work on the Frailty …

PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

The 17th annual Longevity Prize of the Fondation Ipsen has been awarded to Linda Fried (Columbia University, New York, USA), in recognition of her outstanding leadership in the domain of the frailty syndrome, by an international jury1 led by Dr. George Martin (University of Washington, Seattle, USA). She received the 20,000 prize on November 14, 2012 at the Gerontology Society of America (GSA) in San Diego, USA where she presented an outstanding lecture.

Linda Fried has given a whole new insight into the understanding of frailty in geriatrics. This concept actually marks the evolution of physiology with the ageing process. Such a syndrome clinically represents energy dysregulation, and physiologically marks the dysregulation of the complex adaptative system of the resilient organism. Energy dysregulation may underly the development of this dysregulation as well as being deeply involved in the vicious cycle of the clinical presentation. Her work on this topic has given a whole new insight in the understanding of frailty and resilience in ageing and has had a major impact in todays geriatrics.

Linda Fried received her medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago. In 1985, she obtained her Masters degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and then went on to hold joint faculty appointments in the JHU School of Medicine, the School of Hygiene and Public Health, and the School of Nursing (Baltimore, USA). She also served as director or co-director of geriatric medicine and research centers aimed at studying the epidemiology of aging and the relationships between aging and health. In 2008, L. Fried moved to Columbia University, where she is now dean of the Mailman School of Public Health and a professor of epidemiology and medicine. She is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science.

About the Longevity Prize Founded in 1996, the Longevity Prize of the Fondation Ipsen has been awarded to renowned specialists: Caleb E. Finch (Los Angeles, 1996), Vaino Kannisto (Lisboa, 1997), Roy L. Walford (Los Angeles, 1998), John Morley (St Louis,1999), Paul & Margret Baltes (Berlin, 2000), Justin Congdon (Aiken, 2001), George Martin (Seattle, 2002), James Vaupel (Rostock, 2003), Linda Partridge (London, 2004), Sir Michael Marmot (London, 2005), Cynthia Kenyon (San Francisco, 2006), David Barker (Southampton, 2007), Gerald McLearn (University Park, 2008), Jacques Vallin (Paris, 2009), Judith Campisi (Novato, 2010) and Tom Kirkwood (Newcastle, 2011).

About the Fondation Ipsen Established in 1983 under the aegis of the Fondation de France, the mission of the Fondation Ipsen is to contribute to the development and dissemination of scientific knowledge. The long-standing action of the Fondation Ipsen aims at fostering the interaction between researchers and clinical practitioners, which is indispensable due to the extreme specialization of these professions. The ambition of the Fondation Ipsen is to initiate a reflection about the major scientific issues of the forthcoming years. It has developed an important international network of scientific experts who meet regularly at meetings known as Colloques Mdecine et Recherche, dedicated to six main themes: Alzheimer's disease, neurosciences, longevity, endocrinology, the vascular system and cancer science. Moreover the Fondation Ipsen has started since 2007 several meetings in partnership with the Salk Institute, the Karolinska Institutet, the Massachusetts General Hospital, the Days of Molecular Medicine Global Foundation as well as with the science journals Nature, Cell and Science. Center for Productive Longevity Wraps Up Successful Series of Baby Boomer Entrepreneurship Meetings

BOULDER, CO--(Marketwire - Nov 20, 2012) - The Center for Productive Longevity (CPL), which serves as the bridge between people 55 and older and opportunities that enable them to continue in productive activities, recently wrapped up its last meeting in the "Spotlight on Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Baby Boomers" series. These meetings attracted more than 400 participants 50 and older to the four meetings in Kansas City, Mo., Boston, Chicago and Denver.

There are 78 million Baby Boomers (one-quarter of the total U.S. population) reaching the traditional retirement age of 65 at the rate of 4.2 million each year from 2011 through 2029. With unemployment high and economic growth low for the foreseeable future, new-business creation is a bright spot on a gloomy employment horizon for older people. A survey sponsored by AARP in 2011 indicated that 80 percent of the Baby Boomers surveyed intend to continue working after leaving their regular career jobs. This series of meetings is on the leading edge in encouraging Baby Boomers to consider the benefits and opportunities of new-business creation as they consider how to remain productively engaged.

This interest in entrepreneurship as a career after retirement is reflected in national research as well, with increasingly more people 55 and older creating their own businesses than people 20-34. In fact, according to Kauffman Foundation research, the relative percentage of entrepreneurs has increased by almost 7 percent for people 55-64 from 1996-2011, the largest increase among all age groups. By contrast, the percentage dropped about 5 percent for people 20-44.

"This is what built America! Individuality, capitalism, inventiveness, and the freedom to create your own business," stated Karen Rose, a participant in the Denver meeting. "This meeting reignited passion in so many of us, along with providing educational avenues to turn passion into success."

Tom Backhus, another participant in the Denver meeting, said, "The event has given me confidence in moving forward and ideas on the importance of writing my business concept."

Each meeting had presentations by successful, highly visible entrepreneurs such as Jerry Kelly, CEO and Co-Founder, Silpada Designs, Doug Rauch, former President and CEO, Trader Joe's, Larry Levy, Founder and Chairman of Levy Restaurants, and Alan Hall, Founder and Chairman, MarketStar.

Participants also attended interactive breakout sessions on topics relating to new-business creation and how to become an entrepreneur, including: risks and rewards, strategies for identifying and selecting potential business opportunities, developing a business plan or business concept statement, and exploring funding support.

Written evaluations from all of the meetings indicated that participants benefited and were even inspired by their experience. Almost all participants reported that it increased their understanding of the benefits and opportunities provided by entrepreneurship, and 74 percent stated they were now more likely to create a new business as a result of the meetings.

Middleground Farm Tilapia Breeders – Video

Middleground Farm Tilapia Breeders
We are breeding tilapia fry and fingerlings for other aquapons. All of these breeders are blue tilapia by DNA, though they have been selectively bred for white coloration, as white fish have greater plate appeal. The first shot is of our best female mouth brooding, oh, 300ish eggs, followed by a look at the remaining female and male in our breeding colony before we return to a side view of Big Momma #39;s fry pouch. We created a number of colonies last year, and finally settled on this one for color, temperament (males can be quite aggressive --way beyond what is necessary) and body shape. Our #39;best #39; female has a more pronounced forehead rise than the other female. We think this shape is an advantage when raising tilapia for food, as it means a thicker body which in turn makes for nicer fillets and steaks. Also, we like Big Momma because she tends to keep the fry in her mouth until they pass the swim-up stage, and due to her wide jaw, she tends to incubate a lot of eggs. Safe and efficient. Excellent! As for this male, we like his gentle approach with the ladies. He, too, has a nice forehead rise. From:Esmaa Self of Middleground FarmViews:2 0ratingsTime:00:22More inPets Animals
