Our Belief in the Quran
http://www.sacredlearning.org Shaykh Husain Abdul Sattar Shaykh Husain [may Allah preserve him] was born in Chicago (USA) in 1972. After completing his primary education at schools in his hometown near Chicago, he joined the University of Chicago where he studied Biology, Arabic and Islamic Civilization. It was during this period that he began his study of sacred knowledge, studying Arabic grammar (nahw), Hanafi Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh under ulama (scholars) in Chicago. In 1994 Shaykh Husain also began training in Islamic spirituality under Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmad, a leading shaykh in this field. After obtaining his undergraduate degree, Shaykh Husain enrolled in the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago. Along with his medical studies, he continued his studies of sacred knowledge. In his final year he took leave from medical school to focus on his religious studies, traveling to Syria and then Pakistan, where he studied a traditional curriculum for a number of years under some of their greatest scholars. Throughout his years of study, Shaykh Husain continued his training under Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmad. He was blessed with the close company of his Shaykh, learning the science of the purification of the heart. The deep taqwa and firm adherence to the sunnah and Shariah that characterized his teacher were eventually transferred to the student and Shaykh Husain was formally authorized in this science by Shaykh Zulfiqar in July 2001. Virtual Molecular Model Kit – Video

Virtual Molecular Model Kit
This program is mean to be a readily available tool for chemistry and biochemistry students who don #39;t always have access to a physical molecular model kit. It offers a canvas to construct any molecule of your choosing with the ability to connect atoms with various types of bonds. Utilizing the power of the internet, the program goes beyond conventional molecular model kits and gives you the option of finding a lot of information about the molecule that you have created by parsing information from or redirecting to the Wikipedia page for the molecule. Other game modes include a flash card game to practice building functional groups, amino acids and a create your own flash cards game mode. From:Raghunandan AvulaViews:10 1ratingsTime:04:17More inScience Technology

Isozyme – Video

Isozyme
For more information, log on to- shomusbiology.weebly.com Download the study materials here- shomusbiology.weebly.com Isozymes (also known as isoenzymes or more generally as Multiple forms of enzymes) are enzymes that differ in amino acid sequence but catalyze the same chemical reaction. These enzymes usually display different kinetic parameters (eg different KM values), or different regulatory properties. The existence of isozymes permits the fine-tuning of metabolism to meet the particular needs of a given tissue or developmental stage (for example lactate dehydrogenase (LDH)). In biochemistry, isozymes (or isoenzymes) are isoforms (closely related variants) of enzymes. In many cases, they are coded for by homologous genes that have diverged over time. Although, strictly speaking, allozymes represent enzymes from different alleles of the same gene, and isozymes represent enzymes from different genes that process or catalyse the same reaction, the two words are usually used interchangeably. From:Suman BhattacharjeeViews:0 0ratingsTime:04:56More inEducation

Faces of UVic Research: Caroline Cameron – Video

Faces of UVic Research: Caroline Cameron
Dr. Caroline Cameron is a professor in the department of Biochemistry and Microbiology at the University of Victoria. Her main research focus is the molecular pathogenesis of Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum, the spirochete bacterium that causes syphilis. In this video, she discusses its resiliency and why it is important to study specifically the bacterium itself. She goes on to explain what research in this area may lead to down the road, specifically, a vaccine for syphilis. Seahorse Bioscience Announces Asia Mito 2012 Travel Award Winners Advancing Cell Metabolism Research

BILLERICA, Mass., Dec. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Seahorse Bioscience, the world leader in instrumentation and assay kits for measuring cell metabolism announces travel award recipients who presented at the Asia Mito 2012 Conference, November 2-5, 2012, in Beijing.

Seahorse XF Analyzers and stress test kits are the industry standard for simultaneously measuring the two major energy pathways of the cell - mitochondrial respiration and glycolysis - in a microplate, in real-time. XF Analyzers quickly and easily ensure reliable and reproducible data, revealing a new level of detail regarding the interplay between these energy-producing pathways and disease.

"Increasingly studies revealthat Sirt3 plays a pivotal role in the regulation ofmitochondrial metabolism. The XF Analyzer has given us the opportunity to explore howSirt3 mediates energy homeostasisthrough deacetylating mitochondrialproteins, and has enhanced our research by helping us further understand the relationship between the Sirt3 deficiency, and compromisedaerobic respiratoryin mitochondrial diseases," stated Yu Ting Wu, Ph.D

Seahorse supports the exploration of cell metabolism through travel awards that are offered to graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and young investigators who present a poster or presentation citing data generated on the XF platform at scientific meetings and conferences. Through this program, Seahorse seeks to increase the body of knowledge that is enabling new discoveries about the role of cell metabolism in pathophysiology.

"We study the metabolic plasticity of stem cells during the stages of differentiation and reprogramming. The ability to decipher the bioenergetic signatures of stem cells has provided invaluable insight into the regulation of self-renewal and pluripotency," stated Chien-Tsun Chen.

"Advancements in XF technology have made possible significant progress in cellular bioenergetics research. I know, and I believe our customers would agree, that XF Analyzers are now the Gold Standard for studying cell metabolism and its relation to disease," stated Richard Huang, President of Cell-Bio Biotechnology Co. Ltd., Seahorse Bioscience's distributor in Taiwan.

XF technology provides the easiest, most advanced, and comprehensive assessment of cell metabolism available in a microplate today. This knowledge is enabling scientists to better understand the connection of physiological traits of cells with genomic and proteomic data, leading to a greater understanding and new treatments of disease.
