Magic Johnson Invests In Black-Owned Natural Health Products – Because of Them We Can

Former NBA Superstar and business mogul, Earvin Magic Johnson, has invested in Naturade, a Black owned company that produces all natural health products, Black Enterprise reports.

Naturade has been producing plant based cough and cold formulas, soy protein powders and other health supplements for nearly 100 years. CEO Claude Tellis and chief marketing officer Kareem Cook acquired the company in 2012 and he'spartnering with the Hall of Famer to help expand the brand and mission. Johnson, along with Olympic gold medal winner, Grant Hill, both invested in the company with the hopes of providing access to quality health productsin underserved communities.

Ive followed Kareem and Claudes journey for some time and their mission aligns well with my own passion to live a healthy lifestyle. I strongly believe in exercise and being intentional about what I eat and drink. Therefore joining Naturade was an easy decision. Together we are proving that if you offer people healthy products that taste good and can positively impact their well-being, they will make the changes necessary to improve their lives, Johnson told WholeFoods Magazine.

Cook and Tellis are seeking to highlight the overwhelming numbers of pre-diabetics in the country, despite the booming health industry. There are 86 million prediabetics in this country according to the American Diabetes Association. The health supplement industry is a $13 billion industry and growing. The goal for most companies is to make money; they want to sell to the premium stores where they can sell a product for a high price and people will buy it. And thats a great business model but it doesnt solve the problem, Cook said.

Naturade is seeking to change that by ensuring that communities who need these products the most have access to them. I grew up in the Bronx. Why should people in my family have to get on a bus and a train to get to a Whole Foods to buy these products when they should be able to go downstairs to a local store and have the same access? Magic understands that from his own business dealings. He proved people wrong so many times before, and this is an opportunity to prove people wrong again, and to make a successful business doing it, said Cook.

Tellis said that Naturade is a disruptive brand. He and Cook are looking to prove that people in underserved communities place a premium on their health as well. And with a little bit of education and access to quality products, they too will invest in their wellness. Cook hopes that the added star power will help spread the word.

Magic Johnson and Grant Hill and other people will be coming on board who are able to amplify the message because they have such strong followings. They have people look up to them and respect their decisions and the way theyre living their lives, Cook said.

Panahgahs getting regular medical supplies to avert COVID-19 outbreak – The News International

Islamabad: The people at Panahgahs, with pre-existing health conditions, are at higher risk of catching the novel coronavirus, and thus, its management has ramped up its efforts to ensure uninterrupted supply of hygiene products to all the facilities of twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Since the Panahgahs serve a number of people which may carry underlying medical conditions, so it was imperative to take extras steps to keep the places neat and tidy amid the global pandemic, Prime Ministers Focal Person Naseem ur Rehman told the media at Bara Kahu Shelter Home on Sunday.

He visited the facility to review the measures taken by its service provider to ensure observance of the cornavirus precautions like social distancing and mask wearing. Highlighting the managements major initiative, he said a cleanliness drive title Keep Panahgah Clean was launched to transform the scope of shelter homes from food and shelter towards promoting healthy lives at the facilities in the wake of coronavirus.

Under the campaign, he said politicians, civil society, private sector and affluent community members were being approached to procure soaps, sanitizers, gloves and masks for the shelter homes beneficiaries, which had been increasing with each passing day due to the reopening of construction sector and the advent of Ramazan.

Along with providing food and shelter, Naseem said, strong messages on promoting healthy lifestyle were being disseminated to a group of long neglected low income toiling migrant labour. Besides, provision of the medical supplies to every shelter home in the twin cities was a top most priority of the management to avert the virus outbreak.

The focal person said the shelter homes were being disinfected on regular basis. The teams of the district administrations are playing leading role in sanitization of the Panahgahs, he added. Pointing out an out of box solution to create awareness among the visitors on the coronavirus, he said large at each Panahgah to directly communicate the health massages to daily wage earners who were less-educated.

Special programmes on the COVID-19 were produced to broadcast on those radios daily, he added. We have deputed teams to impart information to the staff of Panahgahs on the coronavirus precautions so that they could make the residents about the deadly virus for their own and others safety, he said, adding the awareness sessions for the shelter homes dwellers were a routine activity.

The Focal Person said thermo scanners, hand washing booths and disinfection walk through gates were installed at almost each Panahgah of both the cities to promote healthy habits among the visitors, he added.

He said the residents were also being engaged in physical activities like grass cutting and tree plantation to enhance the green covers at the shelter homes. All the initiatives being taken under the Keep Panahgahs Clean specifically focus on protection of the residents lives through inclusiveness.

Keeping shelter homes open in the prevailing situation was a bold step which was a true reflection of Prime Minister Imran Khans vision of building a welfare state on the pattern of Medina, the focal person noted.

Live Well San Diego kicks off 10th anniversary celebration – CBS News 8

SAN DIEGO Live Well San Diego kicked off its 10th anniversary celebration this weekend with a pair of fun activities. San Diego Countys vision for a region that is healthy, safe and thriving was celebrated at a San Diego Gulls ice hockey game and during the grand opening of the new Sweetwater Bike Park.

During their game against the Bakersfield Condors on Saturday night, the San Diego Gulls became the newestLive Well San Diego partner, bringing the total number of recognized partner organizations to 479. The Gulls were presented with a proclamation from the San Diego County Board of Supervisors recognizing the organizations commitment to advancing the Live Well San Diego vision.

We were proud to welcome the San Diego Gulls as a Live Well San Diego partner during Saturdays game. It was great so many County of San Diego employees were in attendance, said Supervisor Nathan Fletcher. Athletes and sports teams understand the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and set a great example for all of us. The hard work and dedication the Gulls make daily to Live Well San Diego should be an inspiration to us all. Its great to have them on the Live Well team.

Launched in 2010, the Live Well San Diego vision was created by San Diego County in response to statistics that found that throughout the nation and locally three behaviors (poor nutrition, lack of physical activity and tobacco use) were contributing to four diseases (heart disease/stroke, cancer, Type 2 diabetes and respiratory conditions) that resulted in more than 50% of deaths in the county.

To address these issues, the county partnered with schools, government agencies, businesses, neighborhood-based organizations and other entities to leverage existing resources to improve the health and well-being of all County residents.

In the past decade, organizations and individuals have shared their knowledge, resources and ideas to address a broad spectrum of community concerns, from access to health care to crime prevention to improving the natural environment.
