CCNE | Northeastern University

Welcome!

The NIH-funded Northeastern University Center for Translational Cancer Nanomedicine (CTCN) was established in September 2010 as part of Phase 2 of the National Cancer Institute's Alliance for Nanotechnology in Cancer program with collaborators at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital; Harvard Medical School; Tufts University, Auburn University and Nemucore Medical Innovations, Inc. The CTCN will utilize the support and facilities of the NU-based Center for High-rate Nanomanufacturing.

Northeastern University CTCN is one of only nine Centers of Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence (CCNE) across the country that has been awarded a five-year $13.5 million grant from the NCI Alliance in an open nationwide competition.

Building upon Northeasterns strong base of interdisciplinary nanotechnology research, the center will create new drugs that target cancer cells, advance technology on how nanocarriers deliver these drugs, and utilize imaging tools that track how they travel through the body. To enable the translation of these nanomedicines from bench to bedside, test batches of the nanopreparations will be developed for preclinical use to meet FDA standards for further clinical testing. The team will also develop semi-industrial and industrial processes to scale up their production.

Cross-disciplinary collaboration will enable integration of the fundamental biological knowledge base with physical science and engineering approaches for intimate involvement in scale-up and manufacture to rapidly translate bench research into animal testing and GMP production and to narrow the gap between discovery and development of anticancer therapeutics. The CTCN will concentrate on multifunctional, targeted devices that will bypass current biological barriers to delivery of multiple therapeutic agents at high local concentrations, with appropriate timing, directly to cancer cells.

IBM Research: Ninja polymers

Creating a hydrogel from the polymers

Through the precise tailoring of the ninja polymers, researchers were able to create macromolecules - molecular structures containing a large number of atoms - which combine water solubility, a positive charge, and biodegradability. When mixed with water and heated to normal body temperature, the polymers self-assemble, swelling into a synthetic hydrogel that is easy to manipulate.

When applied to contaminated surfaces, the hydrogel's positive charge attracts negatively charged microbial membranes, like stars and planets being pulled into a black hole. However, unlike other antimicrobials that target the internal machinery of bacteria to try to prevent it from replicating, this hydrogel destroys the bacteria by rupturing the bacteria's membrane, rendering it completely unable to regenerate or spread.

The hydrogel is comprised of more than 90 percent water, making it easy to handle and apply to surfaces. It also makes it potentially viable for eventual inclusion in applications like creams or injectable therapeutics for wound healing, implant and catheter coatings, skin infections or even orifice barriers. It is the first-ever to be biodegradable, biocompatible and non-toxic, potentially making it an ideal tool to combat serious health hazards facing hospital workers, visitors and patients.

The IBM scientists in the nanomedicine polymer program along with the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology have taken this research a step further and have made a nanomedicine breakthrough in which they converted common plastic materials like polyethylene terephthalate (PET) into non-toxic and biocompatible materials designed to specifically target and attack fungal infections.BCC Research reported that the treatment cost for fungal infections was $3 billion worldwide in 2010 andis expected to increase to $6 billion in 2014. In this breakthrough, the researchers identified a novel self-assembly process for broken down PET, the primary material in plastic water bottles, in which 'super' molecules are formed through a hydrogen bond and serve as drug carriers targeting fungal infections in the body. Demonstrating characteristics like electrostatic charge similar to polymers, the molecules are able to break through bacterial membranes and eradicate fungus, then biodegrade in the body naturally. This is important to treat eye infections associated with contact lenses, and bloodstream infections like Candida.

Sermorelin – HGH Injections and Testosterone Therapy Programs

HGH (Human Growth Hormone) medications and Sermorelin injectable HGH stimulating medication. Sermorelin is a gH releasing hormone with 29- Amino acids.

ANALYSIS: If you fit the qualifications (including age) then SERMORELIN might be the best choice financially, especially with 1/3 the benefits but at a fraction of the cost of HGH premium brands

*If cost is an issue then SERMORELIN is high recommended instead of doing nothing to address and human growth hormone (HGH) deficiencies due to aging or other factors.

Sermorelin Acetate or Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone (GHRH) is also considered a Sermorelin HGH therapy that produces results by binding to specific receptors thereby increasing the secretion of endogenous growth hormone (HGH) doing do by stimulating the pituitary gland. The body responds to the elevation of HGH which produces an anabolic effect to thetissue, yielding numerous health and wellness benefits. Sermorelin is known to contain 29 amino acids and studies as far back as the 1970s have shownSermorelin results occur by stimulating an increase in Human Growth Hormone (HGH) by the pituitary gland. Some clinics also tout that Sermorelin is better then actual recombinant HGH in many respects. Therapy and Sermorelin price can be substantially lower then the cost of HGH therapies. Many HGH maintenance programs include HGH Sermorelin acetate to be administered at the tail end HGH therapies.

Buy Sermorelin injections and similar Sermorelin products when cost is certainly an issue. BHRT Male patients and BHRT Female patients both benefit with Sermorelin and similar HGH products.

Sermorelin Acetate injection results happen because ofits ability tostimulate the production and release of HGH. Medical studies have found that once sufficient amounts of HGH are produced in the body, Sermorelinthen stimulates the insulin growth factor (IGF-1) in the liver which helps increase new cell growth as well as boost the bodys metabolism

The welcomed side effects with a Sermorelin dosage are: increased energy, better sleep, and weight loss, all which have been linked to the effect of Sermorelin on the pituitary gland and its increase of HGH production. In some people the combination of both of these helps to increase the effectiveness and overall benefits of the treatment. Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide or GHRP-6 has been shown to act similarly as Sermorelin, however binds to different receptors. The rate of HGH secretion is increased when the two are combined and the product is an overall improved outcome in a Sermorelin review. Combinations of GHRP-6 and GHRP-2 HGH products similarly.

Sermorelin reviews show that as we begin to age, our HGH levels decline at a dramatic rate producing side effects that can be unpleasant. In our mid 20s we experience the highest levels of HGH output and by our 40s our HGH levels diminish by as much as 40%. Sermorelinbenefits are well known by todays physicians to be a safe and effective means to stimulate as well as increase HGH production. To begin a protocol of HGH and to ensure its effectiveness will be greatly reliantondiligentblood panel tests which will help dictate proper dosages to avoid any unnecessary side effects. By utilizing the blood panel information and medical documentation, one can implement a long term plan that will help you regain and stabilize healthy hormone levels. The purpose of Sermorelin Therapy is to stimulate the pituitary gland to secrete HGH, and to so naturally. Sermorelin benefits are achieved by following a therapy of nightlydosageswith subcutaneous injections. Unlike HGH Therapy, Sermorelin Therapy tries to address the primary cause of diminishing HGH levels in the body by naturally stimulating the pituitary gland to produce more HGH rather than replenish levels with bio-identical hormones.

Hormone Optimization for Men – True Balance MD

The hormonal symphony: Men have a large amount of the powerful androgen hormone testosterone. This is what determines if a baby is to become a male or not. Testosterone maintains not only sex drive and virility but also muscle mass and fitness. Men also have small amounts of estrogen and progesterone that perform certain crucial functions in their bodies as well. There must be balance among these and the other hormones in the body so that their symphony is a beautiful harmonious sound and everything functions as it should.

Testosterone declines with age: With age testosterone levels decline and estrogen levels increase. Classic symptoms of testosterone decline include receding hairline and central balding, decreased energy, drive and initiative, decreased muscle mass and weight gain. One of the later symptoms and the hallmark that gets most men to stand up and pay attention is a decrease in sex drive or erectile dysfunction. Once it gets below the belt it often becomes a top priority above the neck! However, once it gets to this stage it is more difficult to reverse. Therefore, this issue needs to be addressed at the earliest point possible for optimal outcome.

Estrogen increases with age: As testosterone decreases it is associated with an equally devastating increase in estrogen levels. This results in belly fat accumulation, an increase in breast size, weight gain and prostate cancer. Yes, men need estrogen, but the high levels that can occur with aging are dangerous and should be addressed.

Other hormones also change with age: Like women, many men also suffer ill effects from other hormonal imbalances such as thyroid, pancreas, adrenal and growth hormone. The hallmark of thyroid imbalance is weight gain or inability to lose weight. Fatigue, feeling cold and constipation are other common signs. Many people say that their doctor checked their thyroid and said that it was fine. However, at True Balance MD we check special thyroid tests on these same people that often tell us otherwise.

Stress does affect our health and its effects can be measured: The adrenal glands make cortisol, the stress hormone. This vital hormone controls how the body adapts to stressors in the environment. By midlife most men have encountered enough stress that it has altered adrenal functional and decreased their ability to handle current stressors. Symptoms include fatigue, lack of lust for life, insomnia, a decrease in immune system function (frequently getting ill, cancers and all chronic diseases are increased with decreased adrenal function). Most men with decreased libido and erectile dysfunction have some degree of adrenal dysfunction. This is easily identified with appropriate salivary testing and corrected using natural measures that address the underlying cause of the issue.

Insulin, problems here cause symptoms as well: Insulin is the hormone of pancreatic endocrine function and, like cortisol, is vital to our immediate survival. Imbalances here results in wide swings in blood sugar levels that affect all cells and tissues in the body negatively. Symptoms include excess feelings of hunger, fatigue, excess energy after eating, dizziness, lightheadedness and difficulty thinking clearly. Over the long term insulin dysfunction allows too much sugar to stay in the blood after eating. This excess sugar sticks to all the cells in the body and damages their normal way of functioning. Long term problems resulting from this include blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, increased risk of all cancers and ultimately, death. Appropriate evaluation of insulin function using special testing and the comparison of your results to optimal values allow us to identify and correct early stages of dysfunction in this area and prevent the harmful long term consequences of insulin regulation issues.

The master regulator, growth hormone: Growth hormone is a master regulating hormone that promotes the health and growth of all cells in the body. It is primarily produced while we sleep. This is why 7 to 8 hours of deep, uninterrupted sleep is so crucial to our health and vitality. As we age growth hormone levels declines and our overall health declines because of this. Symptoms include decreased vitality, strength, muscle mass, bone density, weight gain, cognitive dysfunction and many others. Identification and correction of deficiency in this area optimizes health and vitality.

In order to counteract these imbalances, True Balance MD offers a variety of solutions. The most inexpensive, accurate, and simple way to test the levels of hormones is saliva testing. These results allow us to correctly diagnose imbalances in the steroidal hormones, including testosterone, progesterone, and estradiol and treat them appropriately. There is no guessing involved. Depending on the outcome, bio-identical hormone treatment may be prescribed. This involves replacing your body with the biologically identical, naturally occurring hormone that it usually makes. Not synthetic hormones, which increase your risk for cancers and other diseases. True Balance MD also uses hormone metabolism testing to check for increased risk of hormonally related diseases such as prostate cancer.

Hormone optimization can be the answer for a variety of problems men face as they age. Although some men have not heard of hormone optimization before, the ones who are benefitting from it are all glad they did. This is your opportunity to turn back the clock. Right now. Contact us today for more information!

Transhumanist Values – Nick Bostrom

1. What is Transhumanism?

Transhumanism is a loosely defined movement that has developed gradually over the past two decades.[1] It promotes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding and evaluating the opportunities for enhancing the human condition and the human organism opened up by the advancement of technology. Attention is given to both present technologies, like genetic engineering and information technology, and anticipated future ones, such as molecular nanotechnology and artificial intelligence.

The enhancement options being discussed include radical extension of human health-span, eradication of disease, elimination of unnecessary suffering, and augmentation of human intellectual, physical, and emotional capacities. Other transhumanist themes include space colonization and the possibility of creating superintelligent machines, along with other potential developments that could profoundly alter the human condition. The ambit is not limited to gadgets and medicine, but encompasses also economic, social, institutional designs, cultural development, and psychological skills and techniques.

Transhumanists view human nature as a work-in-progress, a half-baked beginning that we can learn to remold in desirable ways. Current humanity need not be the endpoint of evolution. Transhumanists hope that by responsible use of science, technology, and other rational means we shall eventually manage to become posthuman, beings with vastly greater capacities than present human beings have.

Some transhumanists take active steps to increase the probability that they personally will survive long enough to become posthuman, for example by choosing a healthy lifestyle or by making provisions for having themselves cryonically suspended in case of de-animation.[2] In contrast to many other ethical outlooks, which in practice often reflect a reactionary attitude to new technologies, the transhumanist view is guided by an evolving vision to take a more proactive approach to technology policy. This vision, in broad strokes, is to create the opportunity to live much longer and healthier lives, to enhance our memory and other intellectual faculties, to refine our emotional experiences and increase our subjective sense of well-being, and generally to achieve a greater degree of control over our own lives. This affirmation of human potential is offered as an alternative to customary injunctions against playing God, messing with nature, tampering with our human essence, or displaying punishable hubris.

Transhumanism does not entail technological optimism. While future technological capabilities carry immense potential for beneficial deployments, they also could be misused to cause enormous harm, ranging all the way to the extreme possibility of intelligent life becoming extinct. Other potential negative outcomes include widening social inequalities or a gradual erosion of the hard-to-quantify assets that we care deeply about but tend to neglect in our daily struggle for material gain, such as meaningful human relationships and ecological diversity. Such risks must be taken very seriously, as thoughtful transhumanists fully acknowledge.[3]

Transhumanism has roots in secular humanist thinking, yet is more radical in that it promotes not only traditional means of improving human nature, such as education and cultural refinement, but also direct application of medicine and technology to overcome some of our basic biological limits.

The range of thoughts, feelings, experiences, and activities accessible to human organisms presumably constitute only a tiny part of what is possible. There is no reason to think that the human mode of being is any more free of limitations imposed by our biological nature than are those of other animals. In much the same way as Chimpanzees lack the cognitive wherewithal to understand what it is like to be human the ambitions we humans have, our philosophies, the complexities of human society, or the subtleties of our relationships with one another, so we humans may lack the capacity to form a realistic intuitive understanding of what it would be like to be a radically enhanced human (a posthuman) and of the thoughts, concerns, aspirations, and social relations that such humans may have.

Our own current mode of being, therefore, spans but a minute subspace of what is possible or permitted by the physical constraints of the universe (see Figure 1). It is not farfetched to suppose that there are parts of this larger space that represent extremely valuable ways of living, relating, feeling, and thinking.

Bio-Identical Hormone Optimization for Women

Women are living longer now than generations before but living longer is not enough, we want to live better! Every process in your body is controlled by your hormones; they are integral triggers and communicators between your cells, organs, muscles and tissues. Without hormone balance your body and its functions begin to deteriorate; which many dismiss as "normal aging". With Bio-Identical Hormone Optimization Therapy (BHOT) you do not have to accept all the signs of aging you can change them!

The good news is that hormone losses and imbalances are correctible and in most cases reversible. Through the use of Bio-Identical hormones women can not only be relieved of the symptoms, but also helping to effectively protect themselves against depression, osteoporosis and heart disease and many more diseases. Hormone imbalances usually start for most women at a time when life often offers some of its greatest rewards so if you are experiencing any of the symptoms it's time to get tested, get treated and get your life back!

What are some of the benefits of Bio-Identical Hormone Optimization Therapy (BHOT)?

The answer for this is based primarily on personal preference. The majority of our patients prefer the pellets; the procedure is virtually pain free, takes about 7 minutes start to finish and only has to be done about every 3 months. Creams have to be applied daily and you must be sure to let them dry before covering and not immediately come in contact with family members or pets. With either option progesterone, thyroid or adrenal support medications will typically be taken orally.

Hormones take years to decline, if they are increased too quickly some of the symptoms that are being treated may intensify until the body re-calibrates itself; so it is better to increase levels at a controlled pace. Additionally, everyone's body will react to and absorb the hormones differently. This is why the starting doses (while calculated specifically for the patient) will most likely be "conservative" compared to subsequent doses to see how the body, levels and symptoms responds to the initial dose. We ask our patients to commit to at least two insertions for pellets or two quarters for other methods to give therapy a chance to get to therapeutic levels. Typically our patients doing pellet therapy with oral progesterone experience the quickest results. With pellet therapy most patients begin to feel some general mood and energy improvements and decrease or cessation of hot flashes within the first 1-2 weeks, between 3-6 weeks some improvements to their libido, vaginal lubrication and mental clarity. Within 8-12 weeks skin tone and texture improves, libido increases further as does orgasm quality and for those with general body aches these begin to improve as well. Over the next few months the patient will notice improved body composition with loss of fat and increased muscle strength and tone with improvements continuing until optimized levels are reached. With pellet therapy the hormones enter the blood stream much quicker and stronger than with topical treatments. With topical or oral delivery methods patients will notice within weeks 1-3 hot flashes will improve and or dissipate completely. Within 2-3 months a noticeable improvement in energy, sexual libido, vaginal lubrication as well as skin tone and texture. Within 4-6 months there should be a overall improvement in symptoms with them continuing to improve until optimized levels are reached.

HRT is an acronym for Hormone Replacement Therapy which is usually a stenciled approach with "standardized levels" for all patients (a majority of the time using synthetic hormones like Premarin). BHRT is the same as the above but using Bio-Identical hormones. BHOT is an acronym for Bio-Identical Hormone Optimization Therapy. This is what we practice, our physicians use your health history, age, lab results, symptoms and lifestyle needs to customize your treatment and optimize your levels using high quality Bio-Identical hormones.

Bio-Identical hormones are rapidly becoming popular among those who no longer want to suffer with their symptoms and want to live with the freedom that healthy balance can bring. The body does not know the difference between the hormones it makes and Bio-Identical hormones because they are a replica of the molecular structure of the hormones that are naturally produced in your body. They are specifically compounded to be recognized by your cells and tissues as your own. Synthetic hormones have extra molecules (generally added so they can be patented) which your body can not recognize, some of which cannot be broken down by your body's enzymes and may stay in your body for long periods of time as toxins and carcinogens. BHOT matches your body's hormones molecule by molecule.

Well-respected medical journals and researchers have reported that Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy has a positive impact on disease prevention for both men and women. In addition to the prevention of disease there are many functional reasons to seek treatment. People are living longer now than generations before but for many living longer is not enough, we want to live better! Looking better and feeling great gives our patients an improved quality of life with the energy and enthusiasm to enjoy all the years ahead of them!

Traditional doctors do not usually have the time or resources to seek expertise in Bio-Identical Hormones. This is a specialized field, just as a cancer patient would see an oncologist, a patient seeking Hormone Optimization should get treatment from a physician that specializes in this field.

Hormonal Imbalances are not just caused by aging, there are millions of women in America that have experienced imbalances for many reasons; including early onset menopause, perimenopause, hysterectomy, adrenal fatigue, thyroid abnormalities, premenstrual symptoms (PMS) and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) to name a few; most of these women find Bio-Identical Hormone Optimization Therapy (BHOT) is the solution. Many women begin to experience symptoms during perimenopause (pre-menopause) or menopause when Estrogen, Progesterone, Testosterone, Cortisol, DHEA, Estradiol and Estriol production begins to diminish.

Common Side Effects of Low Testosterone in Men

A decrease in mens testosterone level is a natural function of aging. For each year over age 30, the level of testosterone in men starts to slowly dip at a rate of around 1 percent annually (Mayo Clinic, 2012). According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), over 13 million men have low testosterone levels (ADA, 2013).

What does this natural hormonal decrease really mean? What symptoms or side effects accompany a loss of the male hormone? Testosterone helps maintain a number of important bodily functions in men, including:

Worried about your testosterone levels? Learn the warning signs of Low T>

Because testosterone affects so many functions, its decrease can bring about significant physical and emotional changes.

Find an internist or a urologist near you.

One of the biggest worries faced by men with declining testosterone levels is the possibility that their sexual desire and performance will be affected. As men age, they can experience a number of symptoms related to sexual function that may be a result of lowered levels of this hormone. These include:

The Cleveland Clinic suggests that erectile dysfunction (ED) is not commonly caused by insufficient testosterone production (Cleveland Clinic, 2009). However, the ADA reports that 70 percent of men with low testosterone levels have erectile dysfunction, while 63 percent have a low sex drive (ADA, 2013). In cases where ED accompanies lower testosterone production, hormone replacement therapy may help rectify the ED (Cleveland Clinic, 2009).

A number of physical shifts can accompany low testosterone levels. These include:

Despite that fact that it can cause decreased energy levels, low testosterone can also cause insomnia and other changes in your sleep patterns. Unfortunately, some therapies designed to treat low testosterone can contribute to sleep apnea, which is a serious sleep problem that causes your breathing to stop and start repeatedly.

In addition to physical changes, low levels of testosterone can affect you on an emotional level. The condition can lead to feelings of sadness or depression, and an overall decreased sense of well-being. Some people also have trouble with memory and concentration, and lowered motivation and self-confidence.

9 Warning Signs of Low Testosterone – Healthline

Low Testosterone

Testosterone is a hormone that is produced by the human body. It is mainly produced in the testicles in men. It stimulates sperm production and a mans sex drive and also helps build muscle and bone mass.

Testosterone production typically decreases as men age. Men can experience a range of symptoms if it decreases more than it should. Low T is diagnosed when levels fall below a normal range (300- 1000 ng/dL, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration). A blood test (called serum testosterone level) is used to determine your level of circulating testosterone.

A range of symptoms can occur if testosterone production drastically drops. Signs of low T (also called hypogonadism) are often subtle and can be mistaken for a natural part of aging.

Testosterone plays a key role in libido (sex drive) in both men and women. Men may experience some decline in sex drive as they age. However, someone with low T will likely experience a more drastic drop in his desire to have sex. Low T can also decrease the sex drive in women, along with other factors, such as other hormonal and mood changes.

Testosterone stimulates a mans sex drive and it also aids in achieving an erection. Testosterone alone doesnt cause an erection, but it stimulates receptors in the brain to produce nitric oxide a molecule that helps trigger an erection. When testosterone levels are too low, a man may have difficulty achieving an erection prior to sex or experience spontaneous erections (for example, during sleep). Other health problems can influence erectile function, so it is important to determine whether low T is causing this symptom.

Testosterone plays a role in the production of semen, which is the milky fluid that aids in the motility of sperm. Its pretty simple: The more testosterone a man has, the more semen he produces. Men with low T will notice a decrease in the volume of their sperm during ejaculation.

Testosterone plays a role in several body functions, including hair production. Balding is a natural part of aging for many men. However, men with low T may experience a loss of body and facial hair.

Men with low T have reported extreme fatigue and a noticeable decrease in energy levels. You might be experiencing symptoms of low T if you are tired all of the time, despite getting plenty of sleep, or if you are finding it harder to get motivated to hit the gym or exercise.

Because testosterone plays a role in the building and strengthening of muscle, men with low T might notice a decrease in both muscle mass and strength, according to the Mayo Clinic. Those who try to reverse the muscle loss through weight training might find it difficult to build or rebuild muscle.

Hormone Optimization – BHRT Compounding Pharmacy

Having an unbalanced hormonal profile is, in many ways, a side effect of living in modern life. There are a multitude of substances which we encounter every single day which may knock our hormones out of whack. Everything from certain food additives, plastics, household cleaners, certain commercial dyes, and many prescription medications can be the culprit.

Many of our hormones are sensitive to environmental stressors, including the thyroid hormones, growth hormone, and the adrenal hormone system. The most commonly talked about in medicine today are the sex hormones; the estrogens and testosterone. When these hormones are out of sync, both males and females experience substantial negative side effects.

In order to treat these conditions, physicians will prescribe a combination of lifestyle modification and medication therapy. The medications that are prescribed usually consist of hormone replacement medications, such as an estrogen product and a testosterone product. However, these products are NOT all created equal.

The majority of hormone replacement products on the market today are synthetic medications that mimic human hormones. Unfortunately, because these chemicals are not exactly the same as those found in the human body, unwanted and intolerable side effects can occur. For instance, look at the structural difference between the synthetic hormone medroxyprogesterone and your bodys natural hormone, progesterone:

These side chains are added, not to increase the efficacy of the drug, but to enable the drug company to PATENT the drug. Natural progesterone (and the other natural hormones) cannot be patented and have no monetary value to drug companies. But for you, they are the safest, most effective hormone therapy. Luckily we have an option to use the natural hormones in your therapy. This type of therapy is called bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT).

As we stated above, BHRT is an option designed to individually dose hormones made to be the same in structure and function as the bodys own hormones.

These hormones follow the exact same metabolic pathways as the bodys own hormones, thereby restoring the hormone balance in the most effective and least intrusive way for your body. There are many physicians in your area who prescribe bio-identical hormone replacement to their patients. In order to find out if your doctor is one, simply ask them. If you are in need of a recommendation for a provider in your area who uses BHRT, contact us and we can supply you with recommendations.

Your health is the most precious possession you have. Why not live each day to its optimal potential; mentally, spiritually, and physically?

testosterone replacement – Harvard Prostate Knowledge

An interview with Abraham Morgentaler, M.D.

It could be said that testosterone is what makes men, men. It gives them their characteristic deep voices, large muscles, and facial and body hair, distinguishing them from women. It stimulates the growth of the genitals at puberty, plays a role in sperm production, fuels libido, and contributes to normal erections. It also fosters the production of red blood cells, boosts mood, and aids cognition.

Over time, the testicular machinery that makes testosterone gradually becomes less effective, and testosterone levels start to fall, by about 1% a year, beginning in the 40s. As men get into their 50s, 60s, and beyond, they may start to have signs and symptoms of low testosterone such as lower sex drive and sense of vitality, erectile dysfunction, decreased energy, reduced muscle mass and bone density, and anemia. Taken together, these signs and symptoms are often called hypogonadism (hypo meaning low functioning and gonadism referring to the testicles). Researchers estimate that the condition affects anywhere from two to six million men in the United States. Yet it is an underdiagnosed problem, with only about 5% of those affected receiving treatment.

Studies have shown that testosterone-replacement therapy may offer a wide range of benefits for men with hypogonadism, including improved libido, mood, cognition, muscle mass, bone density, and red blood cell production. But little consensus exists on what constitutes low testosterone, when testosterone supplementation makes sense, or what risks patients face. Much of the current debate focuses on the long-held belief that testosterone may stimulate prostate cancer.

Dr. Abraham Morgentaler, an associate professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School and the director of Mens Health Boston, specializes in treating prostate diseases and male sexual and reproductive difficulties. He has developed particular expertise in treating low testosterone levels. In this interview, Dr. Morgentaler shares his views on current controversies, the treatment strategies he uses with his own patients, and why he thinks experts should reconsider the possible link between testosterone-replacement therapy and prostate cancer.

What signs and symptoms of low testosterone prompt the average man to see a doctor?

As a urologist, I tend to see men because they have sexual complaints. The primary hallmark of low testosterone is low sexual desire or libido, but another can be erectile dysfunction, and any man who complains of erectile dysfunction should get his testosterone level checked. Men may experience other symptoms, such as more difficulty achieving an orgasm, less-intense orgasms, a smaller amount of fluid from ejaculation, and a feeling of numbness in the penis when they see or experience something that would normally be arousing.

The more of these symptoms there are, the more likely it is that a man has low testosterone. Many physicians tend to dismiss these soft symptoms as a normal part of aging, but they are often treatable and reversible by normalizing testosterone levels.

Arent those the same symptoms that men have when theyre treated for benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH?

Not exactly. There are a number of drugs that may lessen sex drive, including the BPH drugs finasteride (Proscar) and dutasteride (Avodart). Those drugs can also decrease the amount of the ejaculatory fluid, no question. But a reduction in orgasm intensity usually does not go along with treatment for BPH. Erectile dysfunction does not usually go along with it either, though certainly if somebody has less sex drive or less interest, its more of a challenge to get a good erection.

The Lucy Film: Transhumanism’s False Promise To Become A …

B&E, since i make baseless accusations on the dark ages and christians slaughtering thousands in the name of god. I will let history talk for me: Listed are only events that solely occurred on command of church authorities or were committed in the name of Christianity. (List incomplete)

Ancient Pagans As soon as Christianity was legal (315), more and more pagan temples were destroyed by Christian mob. Pagan priests were killed. Between 315 and 6th century thousands of pagan believers were slain. Examples of destroyed Temples: the Sanctuary of Aesculap in Aegaea, the Temple of Aphrodite in Golgatha, Aphaka in Lebanon, the Heliopolis. Christian priests such as Mark of Arethusa or Cyrill of Heliopolis were famous as temple destroyer. [DA468] Pagan services became punishable by death in 356. [DA468] Christian Emperor Theodosius (408-450) even had children executed, because they had been playing with remains of pagan statues. [DA469] According to Christian chroniclers he followed meticulously all Christian teachings In 6th century pagans were declared void of all rights. In the early fourth century the philosopher Sopatros was executed on demand of Christian authorities. [DA466] The world famous female philosopher Hypatia of Alexandria was torn to pieces with glass fragments by a hysterical Christian mob led by a Christian minister named Peter, in a church, in 415. [DO19-25]

Mission Emperor Karl (Charlemagne) in 782 had 4500 Saxons, unwilling to convert to Christianity, beheaded. [DO30] Peasants of Steding (Germany) unwilling to pay suffocating church taxes: between 5,000 and 11,000 men, women and children slain 5/27/1234 near Altenesch/Germany. [WW223] Battle of Belgrad 1456: 80,000 Turks slaughtered. [DO235] 15th century Poland: 1019 churches and 17987 villages plundered by Knights of the Order. Victims unknown. [DO30] 16th and 17th century Ireland. English troops pacified and civilized Ireland, where only Gaelic wild Irish, unreasonable beasts lived without any knowledge of God or good manners, in common of their goods, cattle, women, children and every other thing. One of the more successful soldiers, a certain Humphrey Gilbert, half-brother of Sir Walter Raleigh, ordered that the heddes of all those (of what sort soever thei were) which were killed in the daie, should be cutte off from their bodies and should bee laied on the ground by eche side of the waie, which effort to civilize the Irish indeed caused greate terrour to the people when thei sawe the heddes of their dedde fathers, brothers, children, kinsfolke, and freinds on the grounde. Tens of thousands of Gaelic Irish fell victim to the carnage. [SH99, 225]

Crusades (1095-1291) First Crusade: 1095 on command of pope Urban II. [WW11-41] Semlin/Hungary 6/24/96 thousands slain. Wieselburg/Hungary 6/12/96 thousands. [WW23] 9/9/96-9/26/96 Nikaia, Xerigordon (then turkish), thousands respectively. [WW25-27] Until Jan 1098 a total of 40 capital cities and 200 castles conquered (number of slain unknown) [WW30] after 6/3/98 Antiochia (then turkish) conquered, between 10,000 and 60,000 slain. 6/28/98 100,000 Turks (incl. women & children) killed. [WW32-35] Here the Christians did no other harm to the women found in [the enemys] tentssave that they ran their lances through their bellies, according to Christian chronicler Fulcher of Chartres. [EC60] Marra (Maraat an-numan) 12/11/98 thousands killed. Because of the subsequent famine the already stinking corpses of the enemies were eaten by the Christians said chronicler Albert Aquensis. [WW36] Jerusalem conquered 7/15/1099 more than 60,000 victims (jewish, muslim, men, women, children). [WW37-40] (In the words of one witness: there [in front of Solomons temple] was such a carnage that our people were wading ankle-deep in the blood of our foes, and after that happily and crying for joy our people marched to our Saviours tomb, to honour it and to pay off our debt of gratitude) The Archbishop of Tyre, eye-witness, wrote: It was impossible to look upon the vast numbers of the slain without horror; everywhere lay fragments of human bodies, and the very ground was covered with the blood of the slain. It was not alone the spectacle of headless bodies and mutilated limbs strewn in all directions that roused the horror of all who looked upon them. Still more dreadful was it to gaze upon the victors themselves, dripping with blood from head to foot, an ominous sight which brought terror to all who met them. It is reported that within the Temple enclosure alone about ten thousand infidels perished. [TG79] Christian chronicler Eckehard of Aura noted that even the following summer in all of palestine the air was polluted by the stench of decomposition. One million victims of the first crusade alone. [WW41] Battle of Askalon, 8/12/1099. 200,000 heathens slaughtered in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ. [WW45] Fourth crusade: 4/12/1204 Constantinople sacked, number of victims unknown, numerous thousands, many of them Christian. [WW141-148] Rest of Crusades in less detail: until the fall of Akkon 1291 probably 20 million victims (in the Holy land and Arab/Turkish areas alone). [WW224] Note: All figures according to contemporary (Christian) chroniclers.

Heretics Already in 385 C.E. the first Christians, the Spanish Priscillianus and six followers, were beheaded for heresy in Trier/Germany [DO26] Manichaean heresy: a crypto-Christian sect decent enough to practice birth control (and thus not as irresponsible as faithful Catholics) was exterminated in huge campaigns all over the Roman empire between 372 C.E. and 444 C.E. Numerous thousands of victims. [NC] Albigensians: the first Crusade intended to slay other Christians. [DO29] The Albigensiansviewed themselves as good Christians, but would not accept roman Catholic rule, and taxes, and prohibition of birth control. [NC] Begin of violence: on command of pope Innocent III (greatest single pre-nazi mass murderer) in 1209. Bezirs (today France) 7/22/1209 destroyed, all the inhabitants were slaughtered. Victims (including Catholics refusing to turn over their heretic neighbours and friends) 20,000-70,000. [WW179-181] Carcassonne 8/15/1209, thousands slain. Other cities followed. [WW181] subsequent 20 years of war until nearly all Cathars (probably half the population of the Languedoc, today southern France) were exterminated. [WW183] After the war ended (1229) the Inquisition was founded 1232 to search and destroy surviving/hiding heretics. Last Cathars burned at the stake 1324. [WW183] Estimated one million victims (cathar heresy alone), [WW183] Other heresies: Waldensians, Paulikians, Runcarians, Josephites, and many others. Most of these sects exterminated, (I believe some Waldensians live today, yet they had to endure 600 years of persecution) I estimate at least hundred thousand victims (including the Spanish inquisition but excluding victims in the New World). Spanish Inquisitor Torquemada alone allegedly responsible for 10,220 burnings. [DO28] John Huss, a critic of papal infallibility and indulgences, was burned at the stake in 1415. [LI475-522] University professor B.Hubmaier burned at the stake 1538 in Vienna. [DO59] Giordano Bruno, Dominican monk, after having been incarcerated for seven years, was burned at the stake for heresy on the Campo dei Fiori (Rome) on 2/17/1600.

Witches from the beginning of Christianity to 1484 probably more than several thousand. in the era of witch hunting (1484-1750) according to modern scholars several hundred thousand (about 80% female) burned at the stake or hanged. [WV] incomplete list of documented cases: The Burning of Witches A Chronicle of the Burning Times. Religious Wars

15th century: Crusades against Hussites, thousands slain. [DO30] 1538 pope Paul III declared Crusade against apostate England and all English as slaves of Church (fortunately had not power to go into action). [DO31] 1568 Spanish Inquisition Tribunal ordered extermination of 3 million rebels in (then Spanish) Netherlands. Thousands were actually slain. [DO31] 1572 In France about 20,000 Huguenots were killed on command of pope Pius V. Until 17th century 200,000 flee. [DO31] 17th century: Catholics slay Gaspard de Coligny, a Protestant leader. After murdering him, the Catholic mob mutilated his body, cutting off his head, his hands, and his genitals and then dumped him into the river [but] then, deciding that it was not worthy of being food for the fish, they hauled it out again [ and] dragged what was left to the gallows of Montfaulcon, to be meat and carrion for maggots and crows. [SH191] 17th century: Catholics sack the city of Magdeburg/Germany: roughly 30,000 Protestants were slain. In a single church fifty women were found beheaded, reported poet Friedrich Schiller, and infants still sucking the breasts of their lifeless mothers. [SH191] 17th century 30 years war (Catholic vs. Protestant): at least 40% of population decimated, mostly in Germany. [DO31-32] Jews

Already in the 4th and 5th centuries synagogues were burned by Christians. Number of Jews slain unknown. In the middle of the fourth century the first synagogue was destroyed on command of bishop Innocentius of Dertona in Northern Italy. The first synagogue known to have been burned down was near the river Euphrat, on command of the bishop of Kallinikon in the year 388. [DA450] 17. Council of Toledo 694: Jews were enslaved, their property confiscated, and their children forcibly baptized. [DA454] The Bishop of Limoges (France) in 1010 had the cities Jews, who would not convert to Christianity, expelled or killed. [DA453] First Crusade: Thousands of Jews slaughtered 1096, maybe 12.000 total. Places: Worms 5/18/1096, Mainz 5/27/1096 (1100 persons), Cologne, Neuss, Altenahr, Wevelinghoven, Xanten, Moers, Dortmund, Kerpen, Trier, Metz, Regensburg, Prag and others (All locations Germany except Metz/France, Prag/Czech) [EJ] Second Crusade: 1147. Several hundred Jews were slain in Ham, Sully, Carentan, and Rameru (all locations in France). [WW57] Third Crusade: English Jewish communities sacked 1189/90. [DO40] Fulda/Germany 1235: 34 Jewish men and women slain. [DO41] 1257, 1267: Jewish communities of London, Canterbury, Northampton, Lincoln, Cambridge, and others exterminated. [DO41] 1290 in Bohemian (Poland) allegedly 10,000 Jews killed. [DO41] 1337 Starting in Deggendorf/Germany a Jew-killing craze reaches 51 towns in Bavaria, Austria, Poland. [DO41] 1348 All Jews of Basel/Switzerland and Strasbourg/France (two thousand) burned. [DO41] 1349 In more than 350 towns in Germany all Jews murdered, mostly burned alive (in this one year more Jews were killed than Christians in 200 years of ancient Roman persecution of Christians). [DO42] 1389 In Prag 3,000 Jews were slaughtered. [DO42] 1391 Sevilles Jews killed (Archbishop Martinez leading). 4,000 were slain, 25,000 sold as slaves. [DA454] Their identification was made easy by the brightly colored badges of shame that all jews above the age of ten had been forced to wear. 1492: In the year Columbus set sail to conquer a New World, more than 150,000 Jews were expelled from Spain, many died on their way: 6/30/1492. [MM470-476] 1648 Chmielnitzki massacres: In Poland about 200,000 Jews were slain. [DO43] (I feel sick ) this goes on and on, century after century, right into the kilns of Auschwitz.

Native Peoples

Beginning with Columbus (a former slave trader and would-be Holy Crusader) the conquest of the New World began, as usual understood as a means to propagate Christianity. Within hours of landfall on the first inhabited island he encountered in the Caribbean, Columbus seized and carried off six native people who, he said, ought to be good servants [and] would easily be made Christians, because it seemed to me that they belonged to no religion. [SH200] While Columbus described the Indians as idolators and slaves, as many as [the Crown] shall order, his pal Michele de Cuneo, Italian nobleman, referred to the natives as beasts because they eat when they are hungry, and made love openly whenever they feel like it. [SH204-205] On every island he set foot on, Columbus planted a cross, making the declarations that are required the requerimiento to claim the ownership for his Catholic patrons in Spain. And nobody objected. If the Indians refused or delayed their acceptance (or understanding), the requerimiento continued: I certify to you that, with the help of God, we shall powerfully enter in your country and shall make war against you and shall subject you to the yoke and obedience of the Church and shall do you all mischief that we can, as to vassals who do not obey and refuse to receive their lord and resist and contradict him. Transhumanist FAQ – Humanity Plus

The Transhumanist FAQ was developed in 1998 and authored into a formal FAQ in 1999 through the inspirational work of transhumanists, including Alexander Chislenko, Max More, Anders Sandberg, Natasha Vita-More, James Hughes, and Nick Bostrom. Several people contributed to the definition of transhumanism, which was originated by Max More. Greg Burch, David Pearce, Kathryn Aegis, and Anders Sandberg kindly offered extensive editorial comments. The presentation in the cryonics section was, and still is, directly inspired by an article by Ralph Merkle. Ideas, criticisms, questions, phrases, and sentences to the original version were contributed by (in alphabetical order): Kathryn Aegis, Alex (intech@intsar.com), Brent Allsop, Brian Atkins, Scott Badger, Doug Bailey, Harmony Baldwin, Damien Broderick, Greg Burch, David Cary, John K Clark, Dan Clemensen, Damon Davis, Jeff Dee, Jean-Michel Delhotel, Dylan Evans, EvMick@aol.com, Daniel Fabulich, Frank Forman, Robin Hanson, Andrew Hennessey, Tony Hollick, Joe Jenkins, William John, Michelle Jones, Arjen Kamphius, Henri Kluytmans, Eugene Leitl, Michael Lorrey, mark@unicorn.com, Peter C. Over the years, this FAQ has been updated to provide a substantial account of transhumanism. Extropy Institute (ExI) was a source of information for the first version of the Transhumanist FAQ, version 1.0 in the 1990s. WTA adopted the FAQ in 2001 and Nick Bostrom and James Hughes continued to work on it, with the contributions of close to hundred people from ExI and WTA, including Aleph and Transcedo and the UK Transhumanist Association. New material has been added and many old sections have been substantially reworked. In the preparation of version 2.0, the following people have been especially helpful: Eliezer Yudkowsky, who provided editorial assistance with comments on particular issues of substance; Dale Carrico who proofread the first half of the text; and Michael LaTorra who did the same for the second half; and Reason who then went over the whole document again, as did Frank Forman, and Sarah Banks Forman. Useful comments of either substance or form have also been contributed by (in alphabetical order): Michael Anissimov, Samantha Atkins, Milan Cirkovic, Jos Luis Cordeiro, George Dvorsky, James Hughes, G.E. Jordan, Vasso Kambourelli, Michael LaTorra, Eugen Leitl, Juan Meridalva, Harvey Newstrom, Emlyn OReagan, Christine Peterson, Giulio Prisco, Reason, Rafal Smigrodzki, Simon Smith, Mike Treder, and Mark Walker. Many others have over the years offered questions or reflections that have in some way helped shape this document, and even though it is not possible to name you all, your contributions are warmly appreciated.

The Transhumanist FAQ 3.0, as revised by the continued efforts of many transhumanists, will continue to be updated and modified as we develop new knowledge and better ways of accounting for old knowledge which directly and indirectly relate to transhumanism. Our goal is to provide a reliable source of information about transhumanism.

Thank you to all who have contributed in the past and to those who offer new insights to this FAQ!

Hormone Replacement Therapy for Men – AAG Health & Wellness

Hormone therapy has been getting a lot of attention - some of it good and some of it bad. Youve probably heard that some of your favorite celebrities, athletes and public figures are using hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

When used under the supervision of a qualified doctor, hormone therapy can be a safe way to boost your health and regain your vitality. Heres what you need to know about hormone therapy for men.

Dwindling hormone production is a fact of aging. All guys who get older will see a drop in hormones like testosterone and human growth hormone (HGH). For some men, however, the drop is pronounced. Thats where bioidentical hormones come in to save the day. Bioidentical hormones, which are hormones that resemble natural hormones at a molecular level, can help get your levels back to normal and have you feeling like yourself again. Your friends and family will notice the changes, and youll be better off.

Bioidentical Hormone Therapy – Diet-Weight Loss-Hormones …

The Mac Hormone Optimization Protocol is made up of four tiers. The first tier balances your sex hormones to eliminate estrogen dominance; the second tier optimizes the sex hormones to increase your motivation and optimize life, the third tier optimizes of the precursor hormones such as pregnenolone, DHEA, melatonin and thyroid. The fourth tier is where we place the fun hormones, like oxytocin and GH. This tier handles cosmetics issues, physique enhancement and improves sexual performance.

The problem we see in nearly everybody that has excess fat on him or her is estrogen dominance. Estrogen dominance occurs when estrogen is out of balance, being too high in comparison to progesterone in women and testosterone in men. Estrogen makes fat and fat makes estrogen and estrogen makes fat. It is important to eliminate excess fat first or sex hormone optimization will be difficult.

Yes, estrogen dominance makes you fat, but worse, it sucks the life out of you, your zest for life. It is the syndrome that is making womens and mens moods go bipolar. It also causes PMS, PCOS, endometriosis, and a multitude of cancers, such as breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men. You can see why we work at balancing hormones first. If you have excess fat, we have developed The HOPE Diet to eliminate excess fat and eliminate estrogen dominance. If you are interested only in our weight loss program, CLICK HERE!

If you believe that you are suffering from estrogen dominance, The Macs will test your estrogen to progesterone ratio for the fraction of the cost of any hormone test available. Your P/E ratio should be 200 moles of progesterone to 1 mole of estrogen. The lower the ratio the more difficult it will be to lose weight. Schedule today to discover your ratio and find out how you can eliminate this major block to losing weight. If you are also suffering from sleeping issues, anxiety and depression read more about the sex hormones below.

Sermorelin | Sermorelin GHRP-6 | Sermorelin Benefits

First developed in the 1970s, Sermorelin is relatively a small peptide which contains 29 amino acids. This is all that is necessary to encourage the pituitary gland to increase its production of life-restoring Human Growth Hormone (HGH). In compounding Sermorelin for injection, it is combined with GHRP-6, a growth hormone releasing peptide. Lets take a closer look at HGH itself. HGH is secreted every night while we sleep by the pituitary gland. HGH controls the reproduction and growth of the cells and each of the organs in the body. Our bodys natural HGH production is most active during childhood when the growth rate is at highest level, and HGH peaks at around age 20. By age 30, we are experiencing a 14% reduction in HGH production for every decade of life. By the time we are in our 40s, the production of HGH is only about 40% of what it was at age 20. Fortunately, we can stimulate the sleepy pituitary gland to begin production of HGH once again, even once this dramatic decline in HGH production has occurred, by using a Growth Hormone Releasing Factor (GHRF).

In order to provide the greatest benefit from naturally secreted HGH, we compound Sermorelin with GHRP-6 (Growth Hormone Releasing Hexipeptide). In addition to the positive functions of Sermorelin outlined above, GHRP-6 is a secretagogue (which means that it causes another substance to be secreted in the body) which also encourages the pituitary gland to secrete HGH. GHRP-6 also acts on the hypothalamus to cause the HGH to be secreted in natural waves just like it was when your body produced it naturally in abundant quantities.

One of the most welcomed Sermorelin Benefits is that is completely possible to reclaim your youthfulness using injectable Sermorelin, and quickly and effectively reverse the signs of aging by encouraging the increase in natural release of HGH. Sermorelin GHRP-6 is the safest and most effective combination therapy for this purpose. The benefits of Sermorelin GHRP-6 will reverse or completely alleviate many health problems and maladies associated with aging. Injectable Sermorelin benefits are numerous. To name just a few, you will definitely experience improved skin elasticity, fuller hair, better mental function, more defined muscle tone, and an increase in sex drive, energy level, sex drive, stamina, and bone density. With injectable Sermorelin treatment, you will also experience deeper, more restful sleep, and improved recovery time from illness or injury. You will see much appreciated decrease in fat, wrinkles, cellulite, fatigue and depression. You will also experience an improvement in your cholesterol level and any muscle or joint pain. Experience these amazing Sermorelin benefits and prove that youth need not be wasted on the young anymore!

The goal is to utilize the most effective program to quickly reverse the symptoms of aging. Using a combination of Sermorelin and HGH, you will have an immediate relief of the symptoms of low HGH levels, such as reduced sex drive, decreased energy, increased body fat, decreased mental alertness, wrinkling, and weakened immune system, from the injectable HGH therapy. In addition to the HGH injections, you will be taking injectable Sermorelin GHRP-6 to stimulate your body to produce its own HGH and relieve these symptoms for the long term. Our local doctors who prescribe Sermorelin GHRP-6 injections and injectable HGH will review your charts to determine the best protocol of rotation for your greatest benefit. This will give you the best of both worlds, with the bioidentical HGH injections giving you an instant increase of human growth hormone, and Sermorelin encouraging your pituitary gland into producing its own HGH. This is the most powerful combination therapy designed to prevent the side effects of HGH therapy alone.

Our local doctors who prescribe injectable Sermorelin GHRP-6 therapy will determine the dosage in a different manner than with bioidentical HGH therapy. Your dosage of bioidentical HGH therapy is determined by your current level of HGH in your body (as determined by a laboratory blood test), your body weight, any symptoms you are currently experiencing and your age. In contrast, Sermorelin GHRP-6 dosage is determined based on brain size. We know that sounds funny, but essentially the dosage is the same for most adults, whether male or female, and our local doctors find that the most common dosage of 200 mcg is sufficient. Sermorelin GHRP-6 is measured in micrograms (mcg) as opposed to HGH which is always measured in International Units (IUs). Your individual Sermorelin GHRP-6 dosage will spur your pituitary to produce more HGH naturally and in natural waves best utilized by your body, and it will return you to a level of health and wellness which you probably have not know since your younger days.

It is a sad fact that our bodies change with age, illnesses and injuries, and it is more than likely that your physique has shifted and reformed in ways that are no longer trim and sexy like it was in your younger days. Considering testosterone therapy to help you feel younger and more vigorous as you age? Know the risks before you make your decision.

The promise of testosterone therapy may seem enticing, but there are a lot of misconceptions about what the treatment can and can't do for you. As you get older, testosterone therapy may sound like the ultimate anti-aging formula.

Testosterone is a hormone produced primarily in the testicles. Testosterone helps maintain men's:

Hypogonadism is a disease in which the body is unable to produce normal amounts of testosterone due to a problem with the testicles or with the pituitary gland that controls the testicles. Testosterone replacement therapy can improve the signs and symptoms of low testosterone in these men. Doctors may prescribe testosterone as injections, pellets, patches or gels.

Not necessarily. Men can experience many signs and symptoms as they age. Some may occur as a result of lower testosterone levels and can include:

Some of these signs and symptoms can be caused by various underlying factors, including medication side effects, obstructive sleep apnea, thyroid problems, diabetes and depression. It's also possible that these conditions may be the cause of low testosterone levels, and treatment of these problems may cause testosterone levels to rise. A blood test is the only way to diagnose a low testosterone level.
