Study In The Night (Phantom of the Opera Parody)
It #39;s that time of year again... no, not Christmas (at least not yet)... it #39;s EXAM PERIOD! Which, in reality, means "procrastinate by making parodies of studying instead of studying!" So here is my parody of The Music of the Night, aptly named "Study In The Night" Lyrics: Night time sharpens, heightens each sensation Darkness stirs, promoting memorization MAP kinase kinase phosphorylates MAP kinase Slowly, gently stats unfurls its splendor T-score, Z-score, Type II is 1 minus Power Turn your face away from distractions of today Turn your thoughts away from League of Legends fights And study to the music of the night Open your eyes and surrender to biology Purge your thoughts of the exams that came before Open your eyes, memorize kinetochores And you #39;ll ace as you #39;ve never aced before Softly, deftly, p-chem shall surround you Enthalpy, entropy, in state one and state two Open up your mind, let derivatives unwind In this darkness which you know you cannot fight The cat could be dead or could be alright Let your mind start a journey to biochemistry So many pathways to discover and explore Let big H squared be broad-sense heritability Only VG divided by VP Floating, falling, down the electron transport chain Pumping protons, so ATP can fuel your brain Let the dream begin, let REM sleep set in To consolidate the facts we #39;ve studied right The power of studying in the night Some people can study when it #39;s light I can only study in the nightFrom:F2FunViews:123 10ratingsTime:05:12More inMusic

Unfair to withhold student’s degree for dues: Consumer court rules

New Delhi, Dec 12 (IANS) It is unfair for a university or college to withhold a student's degree to recover dues, the apex consumer court has ruled and said it would be preferable for the institution to move a civil court to get its money back.

"Such kind of practice is not fair," the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission said in a recent ruling in connection with a case involving Sushith, a student pursuing an MD degree in biochemistry, the Manipal University and the Kasturba Medical College in Karnataka.

The court directed the university and the college to pay Rs.10,000 as compensation to Sushith, 32, before Feb 6, 2013.

The commission's Presiding Member V.B. Gupta also questioned why the college and the university did not move a civil court to recover the alleged dues of Rs.9.3 lakh from Sushith, a resident of Mangalore, whose degree was withheld.

The case reached the national commission after the university and the college appealed against an order of the Karnataka State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Bangalore, favouring Sushith.

Sushith's degree was withheld for allegedly breaching an agreement with the university and the college that required him to serve there for five years after completing the course -- failing which he was supposed to repay the entire tuition fee whose burden was borne by them.

The national commission said: "Even if it is held for a while that...the student is liable to refund the tuition fee, the remedy is still open to the university and college to recover the same by approaching an appropriate civil court."

"When such an equally efficacious remedy is readily available to them, they cannot illegally retain the said degree certificate," Gupta said in the order, a copy of which is with IANS.

Sushith said in his complaint that he took admission to post-graduate degree course in MD in biochemistry for academic year 2005-06 and passed the course in 2008.

The college was required to issue him a degree certificate confirmed by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. But despite repeated requests, it refused to issue the certificate and withheld it, he said.

Hormone Replacement Clinic, Renew Health and Wellness Opens in Richmond, Virginia. New Center Specializes in Anti …

Renew Health and Wellness in Richmond, Virginia opens a new anti-aging clinic specializing in bio-natural hormone replacement therapy for both Women and Men.

Richmond, VA (PRWEB) December 12, 2012

The Richmond center is owned by real estate entrepreneur Don R. Cameron. His successful career in consulting and medical project management led the way to his investment in the Renew centers. Cameron shares ownership with Adren and Pam Greene.

We are excited to bring this new service to the Richmond area, said Cameron. We have only been open a short time and we are already having a positive impact on the lives of our clients.

Other key staff include Harriet McCoy, nurse practitioner. McCoy, who has a Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology, and a second Masters as a nurse practitioner began her career in healthcare at Pritikin Longevity Center. Working in the preventative medicine field for over 14 years, she brings great insight to Renews Richmond facility and is dedicated to the concept of natural healing.

Our bio-natural hormone replacement therapy has been shown to have many positive effects on both women and men, said McCoy. These include weight loss, mood enhancement, improved energy levels and more continued McCoy.

Anti-aging treatments are significant because both men and women can have hormone deficiencies as they get older. Even menapause can affect hormone balance significantly. The Renew Health and Wellness Clinics treat this with a bio-natural process that starts with a simple blood test.Take our 3 minute Hormone Health test here to see if you are a candidate.

All therapy programs begin with a consultation from a licensed physician or nurse practitioner and are managed alongside of your current healthcare needs and requirements. The bio-natural process is plant-derived and comes from the wild yam. Little or no side effects exist with this treatment and all programs are individually customized to each patients needs.

The new Richmond area facility is located at 10120 West Broad St (Suite F), Glen Allen, Virginia, 23060. Contact them directly at 804.447.2332 or see map and other details here. The second "Renew" office is located in St. Louis, Missouri.

Anti-aging gene 'may help suppress tumours'

Washington, December 12 (ANI): In a new study, researchers have shed more light on how an anti-aging gene suppresses cancer growth.

According to the new joint study by the University of Michigan Health System and Harvard Medical School, loss of the SIRT6 protein in mice increases the number, size and aggressiveness of tumors.

The study also suggests that the loss of SIRT6 promotes tumor growth in human colon and pancreatic cancers.

"It is critical to understand the spectrum of genes that suppress tumor development," co-senior author David Lombard from U-M Medical School said.

"Our research suggests SIRT6 may have a critical role in blocking cancer and controlling cellular metabolism. We hope to build on this work to better understand how this protein suppresses tumor development, and provide insight into potential future means of reprogramming cancer metabolism," he said.

The research was done in conjunction with the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center at Harvard Medical School. Raul Mostoslavsky, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, was the co-senior author.

The new research highlights the role SIRT6 plays in dampening cancer growth by repressing aerobic glycolysis - a major feature of cancer cells that involves the conversion of glucose to lactate. SIRT6 also inhibits activity of the key cancer gene Myc.

Many studies in cancer biology have focused on the importance of tumor suppressor proteins and how they may protect cells from progressing to cancer.

The new research follows up on previous studies that have tied SIRT6 to longevity in male mice. Other research has also shown that the protein may protect against diet-induced obesity.

"This work points to the conservation of biological mechanisms between lower organisms and humans, and the importance of fundamental basic research," Lombard said.
