The Batanes, which was placed under Signal No. 2 early on Saturday, was buffeted by strong winds and rough seas brought by Typhoon Henry and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon.

In Ivy Hernando's Saturday 24 Oras Weekend report, a video from the Itbayat Police showed the occasional rain, strong winds, and massive waves at the Itbayat Islands.

Police assisted fishermen as they pulled their vessels ashore to keep them from getting damaged.

While the waters were calm at the Valugan Boulder Beach, the waves were much higher at a port in Basco.

The provincial government is assessing infrastructure and agriculture damage due to the inclement conditions.

The crops damaged by the weather included corn, while vendors were unable to sell fish and seafood at the Basco public market.

Meanwhile, the provincial government was looking to assist the fishermen who could not ply their trade.

While classes in all levels would likely resume next week, sea trips were prohibited due to high waves.

The Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal over the Batanes was lowered to Signal 1 Saturday evening as Typhoon Henry maintained its strength while moving northward over the sea east of Taiwan. Jamil Santos/DVM, GMA News
