BATON ROUGE, La. (NBC Local 33) (FOX 44) A Texas woman is dead after a crash that closed I-10 westbound near Prairieville, according to a spokesperson with the Ascension Parish Sheriffs Office.

The crash happened on I-10 east after a 2014 Toyota Corolla collided with the back of a 2017 Kenworth tow truck, according to a spokesperson with Louisiana State Police.

The crash claimed the life of 23-year-old Ami Patel of Frisco, TX who was properly restrained in the front passenger seat of the Corolla. The driver, 26-year-old Jason Ko of Carrollton, TX, was not injured.

The investigation is being handled by Louisiana State Police who say charges may be pending.

The interstate was shut down to drivers traveling westbound. Louisiana State Police assisted with the re-routing of traffic. Back-up was about two miles, as of 5 p.m., according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation.

All lanes are open I-10 West at LA 44 (mile marker 179) and at mile marker 174 (before LA 73). Congestion is minimal at this time.

The crash cleared shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday.

YOUNGSVILLE It was memorable, kind of an instant classic like the Saints vs. Texans that quickly finds itself nestled in replay heaven.

The North Vermilion Patriots swarmed Ascension Episcopal quarterback Cole Simon's overtime keeper, halting a 2-point conversion attempt to preserve a 23-22 comeback win on the road.

It's a shame one team has to lose a game like this, said NVHS coach Brett Blakey. It was a great game.

Blakey was on the other side just a year ago, losing on Ascension'sfinal overtime conversion, so he's an authority on the feeling.

This was a testament to effort. To putting the work in. To coming in three times a week in the summer and sacrificing two hours away from home to get better. It was a fun game that went back and forth between two good teams. It's what it's all about. I love playing in games like this. They make you better.

Blue Gators coach Matt Desormeaux knows the flip side now, too, as his team dropped to 2-1 on the year.

The Blue Gators led 16-7 at half but couldn't close the deal after the break.

Senior quarterback Darius Gilliam stung the Gators with a 10-yard score on the first play of overtime. Patrick Chapman made the extra point, and the NVHS defense stopped a 2-point try by Ascension to secure victory.

This was a testament to effort, Blakey said. To putting the work in.

The Patriots won by shutting out the Gators in second half regular time, rallying from 16-7 down at halftime to force a 16-16 deadlock.

They won despite having one field goal squashed by a bad snap to holder Noah LeBlanc with 5:55 to play in a tie game.

They survived a second potentially deadly blow when a point blank field goal was blocked by the Gators in the final 4 seconds of regulation.

They did the kind of things winning teams have to do in crunch time.

They also won because Ascension Episcopal saw a fumble go through the end zone and out of bounds for a touchback instead of increasing a 16-13 third period lead.

Give them credit, Desormeaux said. They played hard and made the plays they needed to make. We didn't play very clean. There was the fumble, and we made to many mistakes, costly penalties that set us back.

But, make no mistake, the Patriots earned the win.

Gilliam was brilliant. He ran 22 times for 117 yards including a 2-yarder for NVHS'first score and the winning 10 yarder.

That touchdown run in overtime was special, Blakey said.

Gilliam also hit 11-of-12 passes, barely missing just once, for 155 yards and a 38-yard score to Zack Necaise.

We moved Zack from outside to inside receiver this week, and he came up with a huge game for us, said Blakey.

Ascension moved effectively on the ground when it avoided penalties especially Asa Freeman, who powered his way to 197 yards on 22 carries, mainly between the tackles.

We like the inside running game, Desormeaux said, and Asa did a good job.

The Gators used a 19-yard punt return by Andrew Stolzenthaler to set up a 25-yard drive to 7-0 on a 6-yard run by Simon. NVHS tied it at 7 on Gilliam's first score.

Jaime Cordova's 22-yard thrust gave Ascension a 13-7 lead, and a drive before halftime was capped by freshman Peyton Woodring's 33-yard field goal for a 16-7 lead at the break.

But North Vermilion (2-1) proved resilient, as Necaise eluded defenders for a 38-yard score to close within 16-13 on the first possession of the third quarter.

A goalline hit on Cordova transformed a TD into a touchback, inspiring a tying drive with Chapman's 28-yard field goal.

NVHS'two blunted field goal tries followed, leading to overtime.

Once there, Gilliam turned up the heat with his 10-yarder. Simon responded by hitting a fourth down pass that Matt Remondet brought in with a circus catch for a 4-yard score.

That set the stage for the final drama, as Simon was swarmed on a keeper.

I had the tight end on the play, Noah LeBlanc said. I was supposed to cover him if he went out. But he didn't go out, so I got in on the tackle.

We'll always fight to the end, Gilliam said. This was a real test for us.

One they passed with flying colors.

SLAUGHTER Fourth-ranked Ascension Catholic scored 35 first-quarter points on the way to a 42-0 road win over Slaughter Community Charter in a Class 1A matchup Friday night at SCC.

Two of the three passes Bryce Leonard completed resulted in touchdowns and Jai Williams accounted for four TDs for the Bulldogs (3-0). Leonard finished three of six for 130 yards.

The scoring opened with a 73-yard TD pass from Leonard to Williams. Leonards other TD pass was a 25-yarder to Joel Landry.

Williams, a two-time all-state player, had TD runs of 23, 35 and 31 yards for ACHS, the Division IV select runner-up the past two years.

Austin Eldridge had 92 yards on 10 carries to lead Slaughter (0-3).

GLEN OAKS 14, THRIVE ACADEMY 8: At GOHS, the Class 3A Panthers notched their first win since 2017. Quarterback TyRich Cox scored both TDs for GOHS (1-2) one on a 70-yard run and the other on a 3-yard sneak.

Both TDs followed big defensive plays. The first of two interceptions by TaVoris Harris set up Coxs 70-yard scoring run.

Freshman Kendrick Johnson sacked the Thrive quarterback to force a fumble and then returned the fumble 47 yards to set up Coxs second TD run. Class 1A Thrive is 1-2.

WOODLAWN 39, RIVERSIDE ACADEMY 38: In Reserve, Woodlawn (1-2) raced out to a 20-0 lead and then trailed 38-20 at the half.

Freshman quarterback Ricky Collins passed for two second-half TDs, including the game-winner with two minutes left for the Panthers of coach Marcus Randall, who called the effort and the win, "priceless."

LIVE OAK 29, WEST FELICIANA 0: In Bains, Class 5A LOHS (3-0) dominated play, rolling up 237 yards of offense, while limited host to 15 yards.

Four Eagles scored one TD each, including running back Kee Hawkins, who ran for 84 yards on 14 carries. Byron Smith caught a 24-yard TD pass from Rhett Rosevear, who also ran for a TD.

Bennett Clement completed 6 of 12 passes for 42 yards for Class 3A WFHS (0-3).

TARA 20, NORTHEAST 12: In Pride, Darren Nelson scored two TDs to help Class 4A Tara (2-1) to its second straight victory.

Nelson opened the scoring with an 88-yard kickoff return for touchdown and later tied the game with a 35-yard TD run in the third period. Jaylon Lathers scored the game-winning TD on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Keilan Harrell scored on an 86-yard kickoff return) for 2A Northeast (0-3).

ST. THOMAS MORE 51, PLAQUEMINE 16: Jazz Provo and Kobe Major each scored a TD for Plaquemine (1-2) in its game against top-ranked STM (3-0) in Lafayette.

Provo caught a 24-yard TD pass, while Major scored on a 26-yard run for the Green Devils. Caleb Holstein threw four TD passes to lead St. Thomas More.

Borderlands 3: How to Enter Ascension Bluff Locked Door and Reach Hidden Area - GameRant

YOUNGSVILLEFor the second consecutive year, a nondistrict contest between the North Vermilion Patriots and the Ascension Episcopal Blue Gators came down to a two-point conversion late in the game.

In the 2018 game, the decision by Blue Gators coach Matt Desormeaux to go for two provided the Blue Gators with a one-point road win.

On Friday night, Desormeaux decided to go for the two-point conversion and the win once again, this time in overtime. The North Vermilion defense was up for the challenge, stopping Ascension quarterback Cole Simon short of the goal line to preserve a 23-22 win in overtime.

Regulation ended in a 16-16 deadlock, and as the teams went into the first overtime period, North Vermilion had the football first. On the first play from scrimmage in overtime, Patriots quarterback Darius Giliam dropped back to pass, was pressured out of the pocket and scored on a 10-yard run around the right side.

Following the successful extra point attempt by Patrick Chapman, the Patriots (2-1) led 23-16. Ascensions possession in overtime came down to a fourth-and-goal from the five yard line, as Blue Gator quarterback Cole Simons pass into the right corner of the end zone was complete to Ascension tight end Matt Remondet.

Remondet came down with a brilliant one-handed catch in traffic to cut the Patriot lead to 23-22. The Blue Gators (2-1) decided to go for the two-point conversion and the win, and the Patriots defense came up with the big stop to come away with the 23-22 win.

Both coaches recognized the efforts of both of their teams and their opponents in a game that a saw total of 21 penalties.

Extremely proud of the grit that our kids showed tonight, said Patriots coach Brett Blakey. Adversity hit us at the end of regulation and in overtime, and we responded each time. Hell of game. Both teams played really hard. What high school football is all about."

For Blue Gators coach Matt Desormeaux, it was about missed opportunities, penalties and poor tackling on defense that made the difference in a hard-fought contest for both teams.

North Vermilion came to play and fought throughout the game, as did our kids," Desormeaux said. "We missed out on some opportunities on offense, and we did a poor job of tackling on defense. We also had way too many penalties, which really came back to haunt us in the end. Really proud of our kids for the way they competed throughout the game.

Ascension Episcopal led 16-7 at the half before being outscored 9-0 in the second half to send the game into overtime.

Cole Simons six-yard run with 4:06 to play in the first quarter gave the Blue Gators a 7-0 lead after freshman kicker Peyton Woodrings extra point. North Vermilion tied the game at seven with 5:48 to play before halftime as Giliam scored on a 2-yard run and Chapman added the extra point.

Jaime Cordova gave the Blue Gators the lead once again at the 3:15 mark of the second quarter on a 22-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion failed, and Ascension led 13-7. On the final play of the first half, Woodring added a 33-yard field goal, the Blue Gators took a 16-7 lead into the locker room at half.

North Vermilion would add nine third-quarter points. Giliam hit Zack Necaise on a 38-yard touchdown pass, and Chapman kicked a 28-yard field goal to tie the game at 16-16. Ascension let a golden opportunity slip by as a fumble near the goal line went into the end zone for a touchback, which would have given the Blue Gators the lead.

Patriots quarterback Darius Giliam had an outstanding night, running for 143 yards and two touchdown and throwing for another 130 yards and a score. Giliam ran for two touchdowns and had one passing TD.

COLUMBUS, Ohio Urban Meyer had a specific moment for every great team he coached, that epiphany when he realized his team had something special. Maybe it was something that happened in practice, the result of a game or an emotional postgame speech, but he always could identify the greatness before the greatness happened.

Ryan Day hasnt had that signature moment yet, but he knows what that feels like. His team is 3-0, and though most national pundits looked at Ohio State with some skepticism heading into the season, you can sense the opinions changing. Analysts who projected Ohio State to lose three games this season now have them in the College Football Playoff, the point spreads are inflated and there isnt a person out there right now who can keep a straight face when picking Michigan to win the Big Ten.

A BRAWL involving a few members of the Morvant Caledonia AIA technical staff and officials marred Wednesdays rescheduled Division One contest against Defence Force in the Ascension Invitational Football Tournament.

In fading light, at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima, Caledonia, who entered the game at the top of the standings with 24 points (two more than Defence Force) indulged in a series of time-wasting tactics to ensure a goalless result.

Those moves backfired as, in the fifth minute of stoppage time, Defence Forces captain Jerwyn Balthazar collected a deflected pass from substitute Dwight Quintero and drilled home a right-footed shot past Caledonia goalkeeper Terrence Lewis.

The Caledonia players confronted referee Crystal Sobers and assistant referee Kirt Charles as they appealed in vain for an offside call, and those protests continued after the final whistle.

Sadly, things took a turn for the worse as both Sobers and Charles were attacked by members of Caldedonias technical staff and a melee ensued.

Ascensions tournament director Richard Piper could not be reached for comment up to press time last evening.

Wednesdays result meant that Defence Force moved back to the top of the standings with 25 points, with one round of matches remaining this weekend.

Defence Force are scheduled to face cellar-placed Matura ReUnited and Caledonia are set to meet FC Santa Rosa.

There was another rescheduled match on Wednesday, at the La Horquetta Recreation Ground, Arima.

Hosts Terminix La Horquetta Rangers trounced FC Santa Rosa, with two goals apiece from Jamal Creighton (12th and 45th) and Kadeem Corbin (67th and 85th), and one apiece from Ross Russell jnr (32nd), Samuel Delice (64th) and Jomoul Francois (81st).

Brawl mars Defence Force win in Ascension - TT Newsday

Tropical Storm Karen has disrupted the Ascension Invitational Tournaments final round of fixtures with Defence Force FC on the verge of the Division One crown and Deportivo PF, San Fernando Giants and UTT FC all within touching distance of the Division Two title.

Tournament organisers informed all participants this morning that games scheduled for this afternoon have been postponed until further notice. A decision on tomorrow evenings game between Terminix La Horquetta Rangers and San Juan Jabloteh will be made on Monday morning.

The Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) has already announced the postponement of all games carded for Monday. And Caribbean Airlines have cancelled todays domestic flights as well as regional flights to and from St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada.

In the Ascension competition, Defence Force would have backed themselves to secure the inaugural Division One title this afternoon when they were due to host cellar placed Matura ReUnited in Couva.

A draw would have been enough for the Army/Coast Guard combination, since their nearest rival, Morvant Caledonia AIA, were expelled from the tournament on Friday as a result of their behaviour in a mid-week fracas involving match officials Crystal Sobers and Kirt Charles.

However, should Matura surprise Army, San Juan Jabloteh still have a mathematical chance to pip them at the deathif they can defeat Rangers by five goals or more.Rangers are third at present but could finish second with a win over Jabloteh or fourth if the La Horquetta-based team lose and Cunupia FC defeat Police FC in their final fixture.

In Division Two, it looks to be a straight shootout between leaders Deportivo PF and San Fernando Giants who are separated only by goal difference. The winner of their clash will be crowned champions.

However, should they play to a draw, UTTwhich is one point adriftcan overtake them both to win the second tier with a win over bottom placed Marabella Family Crisis Centre.

The rescheduled fixtures are expected to be announced in midweek.

1. Dutchtown (12-1): The Division I Griffins continue to roll along; their lone loss was to Division V power Country Day.

2. East Ascension (11-3): It has been an impressive season the Division I Spartans, who play rival St. Amant on Wednesday.

3. Lee (19-2): The Patriots of Division II have won 14 straight matches.

4. Istrouma (12-5): The Division II Indians have put together a solid early season run.

5. St. Amant (6-5) and St. Josephs Academy (8-9): The records are not pristine, but the competition has been tough for these traditional powers.

On the outside looking in: Baton Rouge High, Central, Madison Prep, McKinley.

1. The Dunham School (9-2) and University (11-3): These two Division IV teams have been consistent through the first month of the season.

3. Parkview Baptist (12-3): Like Dunham and U-High, the Eagles play a solid schedule and have excelled so to date.

4. Brusly (10-5): The Division III Panthers added two wins since last week.

5. St. Michael (7-9): The Division III Warriors have taken some lumps but typically use a tough schedule as a springboard to other things.
