Deadly interstate crash shuts down I-10 westbound in Ascension Parish – BRProud.com

BATON ROUGE, La. (NBC Local 33) (FOX 44) A Texas woman is dead after a crash that closed I-10 westbound near Prairieville, according to a spokesperson with the Ascension Parish Sheriffs Office.

The crash happened on I-10 east after a 2014 Toyota Corolla collided with the back of a 2017 Kenworth tow truck, according to a spokesperson with Louisiana State Police.

The crash claimed the life of 23-year-old Ami Patel of Frisco, TX who was properly restrained in the front passenger seat of the Corolla. The driver, 26-year-old Jason Ko of Carrollton, TX, was not injured.

The investigation is being handled by Louisiana State Police who say charges may be pending.

The interstate was shut down to drivers traveling westbound. Louisiana State Police assisted with the re-routing of traffic. Back-up was about two miles, as of 5 p.m., according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation.

All lanes are open I-10 West at LA 44 (mile marker 179) and at mile marker 174 (before LA 73). Congestion is minimal at this time.

The crash cleared shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday.
