Dr Shailee Patel,DermatologistPrimarily caused by stress, aggravated by masksCases of acne, fungal infection and eczema have gone up due to prolonged usage of masks. It is necessary to dispose off a one-time use or medical-grade mask at the prescribed time. If reusable masks are not washed well, it could lead to skin problems. Do not over-wash or wear them too tight. Cotton masks are breathable, while designer ones are abrasive. Occlusion is the primary reason. We are breathing the same air in and out when wearing a mask. Moisture tends to stay in, especially if you arent in well-ventilated surroundings. It becomes a breeding ground for fungus and bacteria, resulting in clogging of pores, a major reason for acne. Makeup only makes things worse. Do not go over the top with skincare routine. Just wash your face twice or thrice a day using mild cleansers, use a lightweight moisturiser if necessary and if you use a sunscreen, a matte-finished one. Dont over-exfoliate your skin. For lips too, a moisturiser should work. If you have a seven-to-nine-hour job and your skin becomes oily and you sweat a lot, all you need to do is wash your face, moisturise and change your mask after four to five hours. These stressful times are the primary reason for acne, it is aggravated by masks. But this shouldnt be an excuse for not wearing a mask.Surbhi Manghnani, Makeup artisteApply a protective layer of moisturiser
