CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. Charlottetown will host a professional soccer match this summer between under-23 teams from Sunderland AFC and CF Montral.

The match will be held at the University of Prince Edward Island's artificial turf facility on Aug. 7.

Sunderland is an English professional football club that plays in the Championship, which is the second tier of English football behind the Premier League.

Sunderland's under-23 team plays in the Premier League's under-23 league.

The English squad will compete against Major League Soccer CF Montral's under-23 team.

The Charlottetown match will come after the two clubs take to the pitch at the Croix Bleue Medavie Stadium in Moncton, N.B, on Aug. 5.

Having two Maritime cities hosting the Sunderland AFC demonstrates our readiness to host major events such as these, said Charlottetown Mayor Philip Brown. These prestigious matches will bring significant economic return to Charlottetown and adds to our list of in-person events for Islanders to enjoy.

In addition to the two matches, Sunderland AFC will also be hosting coaching clinics and a game against a New Brunswick all-star team on July 30 in Moncton.

Tickets for the matches in Moncton will be on sale through Ticketmaster as of noon on June 2.
