PS5 Games Revealed (Trailers): Every Game Sony Just Announced – WIRED

Posted: June 12, 2020 at 3:47 am

This time last year, E3 was in full swing, for better or worse. While it's unclear if we'll see another E3 in the future, publishers are taking their big summer showcases to the web. Sony's livestreamed event just wrapped, and while it wasn't as big or splashy as an E3 press conference (the annual gaming trade show was canceled this year due to Covid-19), Sony rolled out some big announcements, chief among them: what the PlayStation 5 actually looks like.

We caught a glimpse of the design for the first time today. It's sleek and modern, and looks like it would be at home as set dressing in a cyberpunk movie. I mean that in a good way. For more about the console itself, check out our PS5 hardware rundown.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Kena: Bridge of Spirits sees players in the shoes of a young enchantress as she takes on the evils plaguing a charming and lovely forest. To do this, she commands a group of fuzzy little helper spirits called collectively "the Rot." It's developed by Ember Labs, a studio with a background in animation that shines through in the artistic sensibility that permeates the gameplay trailer. It's a richly detailed game that looks like you're playing a Pixar film.

Goodbye Volcano High

Goodbye Volcano High is a choice-based narrative game set during the final year of high school for teenage dinosaurs. Centered on appropriately moody dino-teens, Goodbye Volcano High features a fully-voice acted story led by an unnamed main character voiced by Lachlan Watson of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

A PS5 exclusive, Ghostwire: Tokyo is a supernatural action adventure game that takes place in a mysterious and lavishly detailed rendition of Tokyo. A paranormal event causes 99 percent of the city's inhabitants to disappear, and it's up to you to find out what happened. And to wield cool powers while you do it. It releases in 2021.

Horizon: Forbidden West

This is the eagerly anticipated followup to the highly rated Horizon: Zero Dawn. It takes place in a vast and dangerous wilderness to the far west, in search of a cure for a pestilence that is ravaging the planet. Filled with even more robot monster animals, Forbidden West sees Ashly Burch returning as the voice of the heroine Aloy.

Bugsnax

This is a game where you become what you eat. Literally. Your limbs and eventually your entire body are replaced by the foods you've eaten. You can become centipede ribs, cinnamon rolls, or any variety of snack food. It's weird, but in a good way. It's like if someone took the scene from the Lion King where Simba eats that delicious bug and made it into a game.

Village: Resident Evil

Coming in 2021, a new take on the classic series sees players dropped into a foggy, frozen village stalked by unspeakable horrors. Just another day in the life, right? Village seems to be taking queues from Resident Evil 7 in that it's more horror than action-horrora welcome return to form.

Deathloop

Stylish actioner Deathloop will make players running for their lives as they try to escape a time loop that resets every time they die. Tricky part is, you're stuck in a city filled to the brim with assassins who want nothing more than to end your life to keep their party going. It's a lot, but it looks fun.

Returnal

Another game based around a time loop, aptly named Returnal sees players take on the role of an astronaut trying again and again and again to escape a dangerous alien world that becomes stranger and more dangerous with every death.

Jett: The Far Shore

This spacefaring exploration title from the makers of Sword & Sworcery has players take on the role of Mei, an interstellar scout who's been slumbering for over a thousand years. You'll explore a mythic ocean world on the furthest reaches of space to build a new home for your people.

The Rest of the Announcements

Here are some more games covered at today's event.

A Government in Japan Limited Video Game Time. This Boy Is Fighting Back. – The New York Times

Since Kagawas regulations carry no penalties, it is difficult to establish a concrete impact on childrens rights, Mr. Matsumoto said.

At the same time, though, he noted that even mere recommendations from the authorities could create drastic changes in the behavior of individuals and institutions in Japan. He cited the countrys approach to the coronavirus pandemic, in which the government only requested that people reduce social contact and they did so even without the threat of penalties.

Concern in the Kagawa case has focused on the schools, which in Japan have broad powers to impose sanctions on children and their parents. The countrys teachers are notorious for controlling their students dress and even their home lives, going so far in some cases as to tell them what kind and color of undergarments to wear, or forcing them to dye their naturally brown hair to match their classmates black hair.

That incredibly intense pressure is one of the good and bad things about Japan, Mr. Matsumoto said, and teachers at schools may go overboard in trying to uphold the language of the regulations.

Kagawa approved its rules at a time during the coronavirus pandemic when children can hardly avoid screen time, and many parents are only too happy to give it to them, because playgrounds and sports clubs are closed.

Wataru says hes no more interested in video games than a regular high school student. When not working part time at McDonalds, he dabbles in Puzzle & Dragons and Monster Strike, Japanese games that combine role-playing and Tetris-like elements, as well as the third-person shooter game Fortnite.

He is also no advocate of civil disobedience. Despite his opposition to the rules, he has decided to respect them.

But he plans to fight them no matter how long the legal process takes, he said.

The kids who are younger than me are still going to be affected, he said. If I dont do something, who will?

PlayStation 5: Sony reveals PS5 console and games as it happened – The Guardian

Well, thats it for the PlayStation 5 event this evening. Clearly, the focus was on games rather than hardware at least until the end and fans got what they wanted, beginning with an enhanced GTA V and moving on through new Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn, Hitman and Ratchet & Clank titles. The finale was the reveal of the PlayStation 5 console itself, a radical re-think of the machines lineage, abandoning the all black colouring weve seen in the last three machines in favour of a futuristic white and black monolith.

Compared to the recent Xbox Series X games stream, which focused on original indie titles, this was something of a fan-pleasing big brand onslaught from Sony. But were yet to discover how many of these titles are exclusives, or even timed exclusives, beyond the first party games.

And we still dont know when this thing is coming out and what price itll be.

They saved it right til the end, but Sony has finally revealed the form factor of the PlayStation 5, an ultra futuristic robot white machine, with gliding lines and a black central stratum. This is a really radical look, like something out of an Alex Garland script. The console will come in two versions: a standard model and a digital machine. Itll be accompanied by a 3D camera.

Horizon: Zero Dawn gets a sequel - more organic creatures join the robo-dinos from the original as Aloy tries to battle a sickness destroying the world. Incredible underwater scenes and jaw-dropping desert vistas. This one will be good. Its called Horizon: Forbidden West.

Pragmata looks to be a futuristic Earth escape adventure with an astronaut, a girl android and a robotic cat. Cats are very much the pets of the night.

Intense Japanese horror here from Capcom: Resident Evil 8. First-person, like Resi 7. Victorian vibes a la Bloodborne. Looks frankly terrifying. Not quite sure if its called Village: Resident Evil or Resident Evil 8.

Oh wow, so Death Loop is a first-person assassinate-em-up seemingly set in some sort of futuristic game where rival killers are stuck in a time loop fighting continually until they work out how to escape. The grindcore styling is very Tarantino/Rodriguez and the stealth/shoot gameplay is very much the mainstay of developer Arcane Lyon, previously responsible for Dishonored. This looks fun.

ITS HAPPENING! ITS HAPPENING! Im sorry. Okay - its Demons Souls, looking like it probably did in the heads of everyone I raved at about it in 2009. This is the predecessor to Dark Souls, the founder of the Soulslike genre, the game that put FromSoftware and director Hidetaka Miyazaki on the path to global fame. Im very very happy.

Some Australian beaver things are marvelling at an anthropomorphic strawberry. Whats going on? Of course this is from the creators of Octodad. Celebrate some of gaming’s greatest tunes with the PC Gaming Show 2020 Album, free to listen to now – PC Gamer

Posted: at 3:47 am

To celebrate some of our favouritegame soundtracks of all time, we've worked with Austin Green to create an album of awesome covers. You will hear the tracks play before the start of the PC Gaming Show this Saturday June 13 at 11 AM Pacific on Twitch, Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter.

But hey, why wait til then? The full album is free to listen to on Bandcamp and Soundcloud right now, or via the widget just below.

Here's the list of tracks:

1. Forest FunkSuper Meat Boy2. Main themeMax Payne3. Main TitleHearthstone4. GrabbagDuke Nukem5. Main ThemeTeam Fortress 26. Hopes and DreamsUndertale7. Toss a Coin to your WitcherThe Witcher TV show

Austin particularly enjoyed adapting the Super Meat Boy soundtrack. "It was the most complex track, melodically. Lots of fun to play on guitar, and experimenting with filters and distortion like in the intro and middle sections turned out great!"

Adapting the soundtracks to different styles can be a complicated process as Austin's ideas for the track shift during the song's creation. "I went with a surf-rock sound with the Team Fortress 2 track, but that wasn't my intention going in. I experimented with a few different (heavier) guitar sounds before dialing it back and trying with a cleaner tone, then added a drop of spring reverb to solidify it as a surf rock sound. The rest followed pretty quickly from there."

"I get lots of ideas while working on a project, sometimes during recording I may slip up and accidentally put a new rhythmic or melodic spin on something, which turns into a new variation that will come up when that melody repeats. Other times, I may listen back to a section that I thought was a real heavy-hitter at the time I recorded it, but if its not gelling well with the rest of the track, it gets scrapped."

You can find more of Austin's work in this tribute to Quake 2Stroggos Rising. Hopefully the PC Gaming Show 2020 Album will get everyone in the mood for a huge collection of reveals at the show this year. We're featuring more than 50 gamesthe most we've ever hosted. Here's a full round up of all the different ways you can tune in. Meanwhile, let us know which track you like best. I'm partial to performing some air guitar during Toss a Coin to your Witcher myself.

Why I usually don’t buy brand new video games and the ones I did – NBC News

Posted: at 3:47 am

As we continue to face the challenge of staying at home, by now a state leading many to exhaustion and monotony, video games continue to be a way for many to cope for one thing, they allow you to do something alone even if you're in a home with other people. And, unsurprisingly, video games continue to be released. Its certainly easy to buy into the hype of a new video game everyone is talking about, and pre-order it or buy it on day one for $60 (or more). But that doesnt always work out sometimes, a game just cant live up to inflated expectations. In those cases, it could pay off to check in a few years later: Take No Mans Sky, for example, a game famous for under-delivering at launch. After years of updatesincluding one this week enabling cross-play between Xbox, PlayStation and PC its won over some of its initial detractors. As a lifelong gamer, Ive started buying games a year or more after they come out, and its made the experience that much more enjoyable for me.

IN THIS ARTICLE Video games mature over time | Video games prices drop significantly | When buying at launch makes sense for you

2020 is actually shaping up to be a good year for games already. But I still have a backlog of older titles to get through, some of which may not have gotten their due at launch. Maybe a game didnt match the developers overzealous marketing. Others might be shackled by lingering bugs and performance issues and a few are even sullied by relying too heavily on microtransactions that milk you for extra money to make the game more playable and more enjoyable.

Even if a video games brand is irreparably damaged, some of these games can be quite fun if you let them mature before you play them.

Ask 100 gamers about disappointing launches and a majority will likely bring up No Mans Sky. The game was pitched as an insanely ambitious space exploration game in which you fly to new planets, discover alien species and upgrade your ship in a procedurally-generated universe meaning each place you explore wasnt designed by any human but rather generated through a string of algorithms. Sadly, it launched without a number of promised features and gameplay that largely failed to live up to its sky-high expectations. Since then, the developers have released a number of major updates that endeared the game to many on-the-fence players. It may not be for everyone, but its redeemed quite a few of its original failings.

Arkanes Dishonored series is fantastic, beautifully balancing stealth and action gameplay set in a fantastical, steampunk-esque world. Unfortunately, the PC version of Dishonored 2 was a shoddy conversion from the console game and plagued with problems at launch. Since then, patches have improved its performance on a variety of systems. It isnt perfect, but I had no trouble at all on my system when I played it in 2018, and its easily one of my favorite games of the past few years.

Let our news meet your inbox. The news and stories that matters, delivered weekday mornings.

If youre a Lord of the Rings fan, the Middle-Earth series of games is an absolute blast. You play Talion, a ranger bound to a mysterious wraith slashing his way through a never ending horde of orcs. WB made some controversial decisions in the second game, Shadow of War, that soured the experience for some: The storys true ending(s) were hidden behind a difficult slog that you could buy your way through with real-life money, with even more of the ending requiring DLC packages that you guessed it cost more money. Three years later, though, these microtransactions have been completely removed, and the DLC is included in the very affordable Definitive Edition of the game, making it a much more enticing experience.

Playing games a few years after launch is also much more affordable and not just because the video games are cheaper. Im primarily a PC gamer, so buying older games means my computer doesnt need to be cutting edge I can have a great experience on old or midrange hardware. If you play games on a console, it means you dont have to upgrade to the latest console the day it comes out. You can wait until the price drops or grab a mid-generation refresh like the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X as they come along.

Best of all, though, the games themselves can get really cheap. Every game drops in price a few years after it comes out standout titles might cost half of what they did at launch, while games with less staying power might get even cheaper (especially if you buy them used or renewed).

The Titanfall series produced a lot of excitement when it first launched. But despite positive reviews, its name hasnt stood the test of time. It may not have as crowded a multiplayer scene as it once did, but you can grab Titanfall 2 for a paltry $6 on PC, and even less for PS4 and Xbox One. The wall-running, mech-wielding single-player campaign is loads of fun, and easily worth more than its price tag.

There are, of course, exceptions to this play after delay philosophy. Some games, for instance, I just cant wait to play: Ill buy them on day one no matter the cost. Other games rely heavily on a bustling multiplayer scene, which will diminish over time. If your favorite series is finally getting its next sequel, it may be worth spending the extra cash.

The Witcher is an engrossing, story-heavy sword-slashing game set in an elaborate fantasy world where monsters have invaded our dimension. Its one of my favorite game series of all time. And after the first two installments, I wasted no time pre-ordering the finale. It ended up exceeding all my expectations even if it hadnt, Id regret nothing. Some games you just have to experience right away, without the risk of spoilers (even if they dont live up to your original hopes). That decision as many others in the world of videos and gaming is best left to you.

The PC Gaming Show returns this Saturday with more than 50 games and a few surprises – PC Gamer

Posted: at 3:47 am

The PC Gaming Show will return this Saturday, June 13 at 11 AM Pacific, with the biggest lineup in its six-year history. More than two dozen participants will take part in reveals, trailers, and interviews that will include a chat with Rocketwerkz founder Dean Hall about what's coming next from the studio, a first look at Surgeon Simulator 2, a Torchlight 3 surprise, and (this is one I'm personally looking forward to) a brand-new trailer from Dusk and Amid Evil publisher New Blood Interactive.

More than 50 games will appear in this year's show, from developers including:

While past PC Gaming Shows have been broadcast live, this year's event will be pre-recorded, with hosts Sean "Day9" Plott and Frankie Ward taking to the air from a custom studio we built in LA. But they won't be broadcasting alone: The show will also feature gaming celebrity cameos and a mystery co-host.

Intel is coming to the virtual party too, to show off a one-of-a-kind, custom-built PC inspired by A Total War Saga: Troy, one of this year's featured games, that it's giving away in July.

"With this year's PC Gaming Show, we still wanted to deliver on the spectacle and level of production that gamers expect from gaming press conferences," PC Gamer global editor-in-chief Evan Lahti said. "We're not going to just show people a Zoom call with some video games in it. We want this to be a unique and fun moment for PC gaming."

The PC Gaming Show 2020 begins at 11 am PT/2 pm ET on June 13, and will be livestreamed on Twitch and YouTube.

Sony’s PS5 event happening now: New Spider-Man coming this holiday; All the trailers and everything announced – CNET

Posted: at 3:47 am

Sony's new look for the PlayStation 5.

TodaySony'sfinally revealed the PlayStation 5 in full. It showcased a fresh white design alongside a new suite of games that includes the return of familiar characters interspersed with entirely new titles, some of which looked dazzling.

The games were shown alongsidethe new look for the device, which istall and thinand colored white on its front and back, with blue light and black accent colors on its sides. The company said it will reveal a price and launch datefor the PS5 later. The company also said there will be a discless "all digital" version, which had beenreported about since 2012.

Sony is also calling in its friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to help launch its next generation PlayStation 5 video game console later this year. Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales will launch alongside its new PS5 console in time for the holiday shopping season, Sony said. The game will focus on Morales, a mixed-race character at the center of the hit 2019 movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse.

The announcement was part of an event Sony held on June 11to discuss the new titles. The company had delayed the event after protests erupted around the world in response to the killing of an unarmed black man, George Floyd, while in police custody.

Thursday's event is the latest planned by Sony and Microsoft ahead of the launch of their respective PlayStation 5 andupcoming Xbox Series Xconsoles. The new devices, which are the first major new consoles since the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were released in 2013.

Microsoft has another event planned for July, when it plans to show off new games from its own development studios -- including 343 Industries, makers of the hitHalo space combat seriesand its newest title,Halo Infinite. Sony's said it has more events planned, but hasn't yet said when they'll be.

A look at the PS5 from the top.

PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan touted Thursday's event as a first look at games that'll be made for the console. It was to be held entirely online and last about an hour.

"We wanted to do something that was bold and daring almost," said Sony's PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan in an interview with CNET following the company's reveal Thursday. "We wanted something forward facing and future facing, something for the 2020s."

Ryan declined to say how much the PS5 will cost, whether the discless all-digital version will be cheaper, or exactly when they will be made available. But he did saymanufacturing remains on trackdespite the coronavirus pandemic, which has upended businesses around the globe as it infected more than7.4 million people and killed more than 420,000 patients.

Sony reiterated that more events are planned between now and the PS5 launch this fall, including when it'll discuss pricing, launch date and other details. Ryan declined to discuss the future of Sony'sPlayStation VRvirtual reality headset, its PlayStation Now streaming service, and whether Sony would offer a disc trade-in program for people who buy the all-digital PS5, saying more details will be revealed at later events.

Sony showed more than two dozen games Thursday, nine of which were built by its game studios, including Insomniac Games, which made Spider-Man.

Posted: at 3:47 am

Hi all thanks for being patient and understanding while we rescheduled this PS5 event for Thursday, June 11 at 1pm Pacific Time / 9pm BST. We needed to step aside so key voices could be heard during this historic and important time.

Now that the event is confirmed for June 11, I wanted to add that this pre-taped program will be broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames per second. This eased the shows production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home. The games youll see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on PS5 with a 4K TV, as youd expect.

Its also best if you watch while wearing headphones, if you can theres some cool audio work in the show, and it might be harder to appreciate if its pumped through your phone or laptop speakers.

Anyway, enough talk! An updated version of Jims original post follows below. See you Thursday!

With each generation, from the first PlayStation to PlayStation 4, we aim higher and we push the boundaries further, to try and deliver better experiences for our community. This has been the mission of the PlayStation brand for more than 25 years. A mission I have been a part of nearly since the beginning.

There are few things as exciting as the launch of a new console. While this road to launch has been a bitdifferent, we are as thrilled as ever to bring you with us on this journey to redefine the future of videogames.

Weve shared technical specifications and shown you the new DualSense wireless controller. But what is a launch without games?

Thats why Im excited to share that we will soon give you a first look at the games youll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday. The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.

This digital showcase will run for a bit more than an hour and, for the first time, we will all be together virtually experiencing the excitement together. A lack of physical events has given us an amazing opportunity to think differently and bring you on this journey with us, and hopefully, closer than ever before. This is part of our series of PS5 updates and, rest assured, after next weeks showcase, we will still have much to share with you.

Please join us on Twitch or YouTube on June 11 at 1pm PDT / 9pm BST / 10pm CEST to see whats in store for the next generation of games. I hope we can make you proud.

Exclusive: Death Stranding PC system requirements have been revealed – PC Gamer

Posted: at 3:47 am

Death Stranding is finally heading to PC next month, but ahead of that 505 Games and Kojima Productions have revealed what kind of rig you'll need if you're planning to explore post-apocalyptic America with Norman Reedus and his bike.

The minimum specs are pretty easy going, if you're willing to play at 720p and only get 30fps, which puts it a bit below the PS4 version.

Minimum

There are two sets of recommended specs, one for 30fps and one for 60fps, both at 1080p.

Recommended 30fps

Recommended 60fps

Nothing too steep here, though as someone with a 1440p monitor, I would have liked to have seen some maxed out requirements. As a port of a PS4 game, however, I don't imagine you'll need anything too fancy to see it at its best.

Along with the PC requirements, we've also been given a look at some exclusive screenshots and some of the Half-Life-inspired goodies you'll be able to get your hands on. Take a gander below.

Death Stranding is due out on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on July 14
