Pokmon GOs Elite TMs Arrive And Shake Up The Meta Movesets – TheGamer

Posted: May 4, 2020 at 4:02 am

Without exaggeration, the addition of Elite TMs to Pokmon GO is one of the most important changes in the history of the game. It will shake up how players aim to round out their collections and maximize the power of their teams. This new feature allows players to choose moves from both the regular TM list and Legacy moves, those that Pokmon were only able to learn naturally but are not longer available, and those from rare Community Day or Raid events.

This is a major game-changer for several reasons. From a practical standpoint, players will be able to take a far more relaxed approach to playing the game. No longer will players stress about putting in the grind on a special event day to possibly find a specific Pokmon with a specific move set. From a competitive standpoint, this is also going to have a major impact as well; rare moves are now more common, and the meta may see a slow shift as a result.

To be clear, this new feature is not exactly a free-for-all on every Pokmon. It looks like players are only going to get one Elite TM, for now. Hopefully there are more coming later, but for now players will have to consider carefully who to use their Elite TM on.

The obvious choice might be a strong, meta-defining Pokmon who has been unfortunate enough to have a terrible set of moves. The followingwould benefit most from having access to these specific abilities:

None of these moves should come as a surprise when considering the current meta of Raids and League Battles. Lapras runs wild in these places and could benefit immensely from any of the listed moves. Right now, a well-stated Lapras may be able to use Water Gun, but this pales in comparison to its ideal options.

RELATED:Pokmon GO Battle League Is Fun, But Shouldnt Be Mandatory

As for the rest of the moves, we are likely to see a fair bit of homogenization among Raids and Battle Leagues as players use their Elite TMsfor most of the moves listed above. Eventually we might see new Pokmon come in to counter these popular choices, but that would be a slow process since what the Elite TM effectively does is provide each player with a bit of perfection. Perfection in rounding out what may be a weak spot on their team, and perfection in terms of the current meta (which cannot quickly shift since Elite TMs will be limited.)

For now, players really need to take a good, long think about how best to use their Elite TMs, and not rush into wasting it on a Pokmon that they may regret choosing.

World War 3: Fears for nuclear attack on 200 locations in UK within 48 hours exposed – Express.co.uk

Posted: at 4:00 am

The warning came as part of a BBC Panorama special, dubbed If The Bomb Drops broadcast on March 10, 1980, featuring a young Jeremy Paxman. It came at a time of heightened tensions in the Cold War as the Nuclear Arms Race was heating up and, on Christmas Day in 1979, Soviet troops invaded Afghanistan as part of the Afghan War, in which the US and the United Kingdom backed the opposition. This escalation in conflict between the East and West during a proxy war, sparked fears a full-scale World War 3 situation was imminent and the British Government began planning on how it would mitigate the effects of a nuclear attack, with the release of information broadcasts such as Protect and Survive.

During the BBC footage, seen by millions of Britons, Colonel Jonathan Alford, former deputy director at the Institute of Strategic Studies, said: It seems the Russians do not accept the mutual part of Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD).

Because what MAD meant was, as a theory, that you, in a sense, took no defensive measures, you accepted that you remained absolutely vulnerable to his attack.

Then, there would be an element of stability, because if he had enough weapons to attack you, and you had enough weapons to attack him, there was a deterrent mechanism at work.

The trouble is, the Russians didnt seem to accept this part of the doctrine and so they have developed a substantial civil defence programme.

They clearly think they might come to the point of a strategic nuclear exchange and then, if that was so, they want to lose less badly than the US.

Colonel Alford, who passed away in 1986, went on to reveal what an attack from the Soviet Union on Britain may look like.

He added: I think they would be looking at something like 200 targets in the UK and allocating nearly as many as 400 weapons to the destruction of those targets, given that they wont all go off or work.

If I took a map of the UK and put pins in all the military targets I think they would be interested in, there would not be many parts of the UK left."

He continued: If youre basing your planning on the assumption that you will get three weeks warning, I think thats a grave mistake.

Given the readiness of modern weapons, for example, one could imagine a nuclear exchange taking place within 48 to 72 hours.

It certainly isnt going to take more than 48 to 72 hours to start the Soviet divisions in East Germany rolling westwards.

Queen WW3 plans: The shock speech the Queen has prepared for WW3 – Express

Posted: at 4:00 am

The Queen said the UK will succeed in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic in early April. During her rousing speech, the monarch spoke of social distancing and drew similarities to her experience of the Second World War. The viral pandemic is unprecedented, but the Queen must be prepared for all eventualities. So what does she have planned to say in the event WW3 breaks out?

The Queen is a symbol of stability and hope for many during these trying times.

In her rare speech delivered on April 5, she said: While we have faced challenges before, this one is different.

She added: This time we join with all nations across the globe in a common endeavour, using the great advances of science and our instinctive compassion to heal.

We will succeed - and that success will belong to every one of us.

"We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again."

In recent days, while nations across the world continue to battle coronavirus, another potential threat has loomed.

Speculation about the emergence of World War 3 has spiked in recent days after a rumour about North Korean Supreme Leader King Jong-uns health went viral.

Experts warned the death of the North Korean leader could spark the USA and South Korea into military action which could lead to WW3.

While politicians and nationals would likely be in a state of shock at the outbreak of WW3, the Queen has a secret speech prepared for World War 3.

During one of the most fraught periods during the Cold War, the Queen prepared a speech to deliver to the nation in the event of a nuclear war.

Tensions were rife between the US and Soviet Union, with a nuclear war almost triggered in October when an annual Nato military exercise was perceived as a genuine attack.

According to newspapers from 1983, the Queens script for the hypothetical broadcast saw the Queen describe the threat to Britain as greater than any other in history.

The speech was devised by Whitehall officials but was never recorded.

It was written in 1983 was made public in 2013 by the National Archives in accordance with the 30-year-rule.

While some parts of the speech are considered to be outdated, such as referencing Prince Andrew serving in the Navy, the overall sentiment surrounding the speech remains the same.

The speech begins by referencing the Queens festive address from the previous December.

Then the speech refers to the horrors of war could not have seemed more remote as my family and I shared our Christmas joy with the growing family of the Commonwealth.

The address added: Now, this madness of war is once more spreading through the world and our brave country must again prepare itself to survive against great odds.

"I have never forgotten the sorrow and the pride I felt as my sister and I huddled around the nursery wireless set listening to my father's [George VI's] inspiring words on that fateful day in 1939 [at the start of World War II].

"Not for a single moment did I imagine that this solemn and awful duty would one day fall to me.

"But whatever terrors lie in wait for us all, the qualities that have helped to keep our freedom intact twice already during this sad century will once more be our strength.

"My husband and I share with families up and down the land the fear we feel for sons and daughters, husbands and brothers who have left our side to serve their country.

My beloved son Andrew is at this moment in action with his unit and we pray continually for his safety and for the safety of all servicemen and women at home and overseas.

It is this close bond of family life that must be our greatest defence against the unknown.

If families remain united and resolute, giving shelter to those living alone and unprotected, our country's will to survive cannot be broken.

The chilling message concludes with the Queen adding: As we strive together to fight off the new evil, let us pray for our country and men of goodwill wherever they may be. God Bless you all.

Many have been struck by similarities between the Queens proposed WW3 speech and that which she delivered at the beginning of April.

For instance, on April 5 the Queen struck a similar tone of unity.

She said: Together we are tackling this disease, and I want to reassure you that if we remain united and resolute, then we will overcome it.

Online Casinos and Betting Could Go Mainstream Because of COVID-19 – GamblingNews.com

Posted: at 3:59 am

The abrupt suspension of all land-based gambling activity has prompted many companies and lawmakers to seek an alternative, turning to online betting and gaming.

With most lawmakers resisting the shift towards online casinos and mobile sports wagering, 2020 and 2021 may yet see a string of regulatory moves that would enable players to place wagers and access iGaming products remotely, SBC Digital Summit experts said recently.

Presently, online gambling is legal only in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, with some forays made into Michigan, but no official launch date yet, and Colorado rolling out yesterday, Friday, May 1. Among the experts to embrace the shift towards remote gambling was Stacie Stern, head of governmental affairs at FanDuel.

Stern said that there were strong signs for a wilder adoption of mobile and online gambling across the United States. In Southern states, where people tend to oppose online gambling on principle, many have acknowledged that it would be a while before land-based casinos can return back to normal, prompting legislators to seek alternatives.

While Stern doesnt think all would act, she believes many would at least consider an alternative.

Maybe theyll include mobile sports betting in the budget for a couple of states trying to generate revenue and get things done quickly.

The uncertainty of the situation has prompted legislators to give online casinos a second thought. Even Flutter Entertainment CEO Peter Jackson commented last week that the merger with The Stars Group was to directly respond to sudden market shocks and overcome the uncertainties of times.

According to John Pappas, CEO and founder of Corridor Consulting, there have already been strong signs and growing interest in online gambling, and especially poker. A week ago, 888Poker, reported a 60% increase in traffic, and one survey stated that there had been a 200% increase in overall poker traffic in the United States.

Despite the promising outlook, Pappas cautioned that some states may become too trigger-happy and try to apply steep taxes and fees for casinos, sportsbooks and cardrooms before they can launch.

Pennsylvania offered a package worth $10 million to allow companies to operate all three licenses worth $4 million each if bought separately. Illinois fees reached $20 million, which are the highest to date. Pappas said that regulators and legislators must be guided and educated about crafting working measures:

We need to educate them on why having a competitive market with low tax rates and reasonable fees will create more revenue in the long term for the states, instead of trying to get as much as they can out of this industry in a short amount of time and how that is really not the best policy.

Vixio Regulatory Intelligence reporter Matt Carey agreed with the previous two opinions, arguing that while a massive shift towards online gambling was unthinkable several months prior, it was on the cards as a result of the falling revenue from the land-based sector.

Online gambling in a time of crisis – The Irish Times

Posted: at 3:59 am

Sir, We are writing to ask that the chief executives of Paddy Power/Betfair, Boyle Sports, Ladbrokes and other gambling operators immediately implement mandatory deposit and spending limits on their online gambling platforms in Ireland for the duration of the Covid-19 lockdown. A system of mandatory deposit limits already exists for the National Lotterys online platform.

Several European countries, including Latvia, Lithuania, Belgium, Spain, Sweden, Finland and Portugal, have already implemented restrictions on online gambling and advertising on the basis that people are more vulnerable to gambling problematically during the lockdown. On April 21st, the UKs culture minister wrote to the chief executives of the five largest gambling operators to ask them to take extra steps to protect players at this time of heightened risk.

Live sport is extremely limited at the moment, so vulnerable people are turning to virtual sports, online slots and casino gambling. According to the Gambling Commission, 9.2 per cent who bet on casino games online had an addiction, in contrast with 2.5 per cent of online sports gamblers.

The UKs gambling self-exclusion service, Gamstop, has experienced a large increase in people seeking to break their self-exclusion, since the lockdown began. In Australia, consumer spending on online gambling has increased by 67 per cent in recent weeks.

The last thing the gambling industry would want to be accused of is taking advantage during a time of unprecedented crisis. Yours, etc,

BC might share online gambling revenue with casino cities – CalvinAyre.com

Posted: at 3:59 am

British Columbias online gambling revenue could be shared with the Canadian provinces casino host cities, but only if the government monopoly agrees to it.

Last week, a Kamloops city councillor suggested that the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) ought to share revenue from its PlayNow online gambling site with cities whose casinos have been ordered to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Monday, local media reported that the provinces attorney general had responded to this suggestion by saying any change to casino cities revenue-sharing deals with the province would need to be formally requested by the municipalities and approved by both parties.

Kamloops currently gets a 10% cut of gaming revenue generated by the citys two casinos, both of which are managed by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Ltd. The citys share of casino revenue totaled C$2.5m (US$1.8m) in the most recent fiscal year but that flow of funds halted after the government ordered BCLCs casinos to close on March 16.

Kamloops councillor Arjun Singh claimed last week that BCLC sources had told him of a significant increase in PlayNows revenue following the closure of land-based gambling. Singh argued that since BCLC knows the geographic location of PlayNows customers, cities should share in online revenue generated by local residents.

QUEBEC COURT TOSSES C$517K ROCK PAPER SCISSORS BETOn the other side of the country, the Quebec Court of Appeal has invalidated a C$517k debt a local resident incurred through betting on the classic rock, paper, scissors game in January 2011. Edmund Hooper, the sorry sod who lost the best-of-three match to Michel Primeau, was forced to mortgage his home that September to honor his ill-advised wager.

The 2011 game was reportedly a double-or-nothing bet from a previous game in December 2010. But Hooper challenged the debt in court, leading to a 2017 decision that invalidated the mortgage and the special agreement the two parties signed in 2013 to formalize the debt.

Quebec law holds gambling contracts to be invalid if the amount wagered is excessive or if the game and bet are not expressly authorized, such as whether the bet is made on a contest based on pure luck rather than skill. Superior Court Justice Chantal Chatelain concluded that rock, paper, scissors may indeed in certain specific circumstances involve some skill but the size of the bet was excessive.

On April 17, the Quebec Court of Appeal dismissed Primeaus appeal of Chatelains ruling, based on its view that the wager was clearly excessive and that rock, paper, scissors involves a large part of chance and didnt rely on only skill or bodily exertion on the part of the parties.

Ascension St. Thomas Phasing-In Elective Surgery – Murfreesboro News and Radio – Wgnsradio

Posted: at 3:57 am

(MURFREESBORO) Ascension Saint Thomas announced plans to begin a phased, measured and clinically led process to resume certain elective, non-urgent and medically necessary procedures at its sites of care across Middle Tennessee in accordance with Governor Lee's recent direction to ease social distancing restrictions.

Effective this Monday, May 4, the health system will gradually reintroduce the availability of certain elective surgeries and medically necessary procedures while continuing efforts to serve and support patients, associates and communities impacted by COVID-19. The timing of this development will proceed in stages with guidance from federal, state and local authorities and health officials and in accordance with Ascension's system-wide safety and infection control protocols.

"It's important we take careful and measured steps to ensure a safe and gradual return to providing full access to healthcare services while also continuing to serve and support individuals and communities impacted by COVID-19," said Dr. Greg James, chief clinical officer, Ascension Saint Thomas. "As these events unfold, patients can expect expanded access to healthcare services with enhanced safeguards to ensure our sites of care continue to serve as healing environments - where quality care is delivered with the highest levels of safety and compassion."

In the meantime, and until further notice, all Ascension facilities--hospitals, emergency rooms, clinics and offices--will continue to implement recommended infection control precautions with enhanced safeguards to minimize the exposure risks related to COVID-19 for patients and caregivers. Ascension facilities will maintain temporary visitor limitations and screening protocols for individuals entering hospitals, including temperature checks for 99.5 degrees or higher. The health system will also require every patient scheduled for an elective or non-emergency surgery to undergo screening and, when appropriate, testing for COVID-19. Following their screening and testing, patients will be asked to self-quarantine until their surgery.

Additional enhanced safeguards for in-person visits include:

Ascension Saint Thomas began postponing and canceling elective surgeries and non-urgent medical procedures at its hospitals and sites of care as a special precaution to help prevent the spread of infection, conserve resources and increase capacity for its system-wide response to COVID-19. Simultaneously, social distancing efforts orchestrated by federal, state and local governments were put in place to help communities "flatten the curve" and control the spread of COVID-19. During that time, Ascension hospitals continued to provide emergency surgeries and services for patients with emergency needs while also providing patients with convenient 24/7 access to providers via virtual care options and telemedicine. Now, Ascension Saint Thomas hospitals are following the guidance and direction of federal and state authorities to gradually begin reintroducing certain elective surgeries, medically necessary procedures and other in-person services that should not be delayed.

"Although COVID-19 is still in our communities, we understand that individuals in our local communities have emergency and healthcare needs outside of COVID-19, many of which cannot be delayed or deferred without serious health risks," said Tim Adams, president & CEO, Ascension Saint Thomas. "Our 'return to surgery' approach is in full compliance with Governor Lee's recent direction and led by our clinicians, who are working with our providers on a strategic process to keep our patients, associates and physicians safe and informed throughout this time of transition."

With the reintroduction of certain elective procedures, hospital staff will begin the process of contacting patients to reschedule procedures that were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, using clinical judgment to prioritize scheduling for patients with the most urgent and immediate needs. Services will also be available for patients to take a proactive role in their health and schedule appointments and regular doctors' visits online or over the phone.

For individuals experiencing symptoms of a heart attack, stroke, respiratory distress, emergency mental health concerns, or other acute illness or injury, a hospital emergency room is still the safest, most appropriate place to get care. Click here to find Ascension ERs in your area.

All Ascension Saint Thomas hospitals will continue their COVID-19 readiness and response plans to both eliminate the spread of the virus and to immediately manage any possible surge of patients in need of care for the virus. COVID-19 testing will continue to be available at all Ascension Saint Thomas sites of care.

Ascension Seton to return to surgeries, other services – Elgin Courier

Posted: at 3:57 am

Ascension Seton is anticipating resuming surgical procedures and other vital healthcare services for patients at its sites of care in a phased and cautious approach with a focus on quality and safety, effective April 27. All efforts are in alignment with Governor Abbotts Executive Order dated April 17.

Ascension Seton hospitals at most locations will begin scheduled surgeries and procedures, prioritizing those that are more urgent, while simultaneously ensuring continued capability and safety to provide care for COVID-19 patients. Ascension Seton will continue with many safety measures already in place, including visitor restrictions and temperature checks for any individual entering each hospital, and will also require a negative COVID-19 test for any patient scheduled for surgery. Additionally, patients within the Ascension Seton healthcare system who test positive for COVID-19 will be cohorted at Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas and Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin.

We understand that individuals in our local communities have emergency and essential healthcare needs outside of COVID-19, many of which cannot be delayed or deferred without serious health risks, said Andy Davis, President and CEO of Ascension Texas. Our return to surgery approach is clinically-led, working with our physicians and our partners at Dell Medical School to implement a strategy that will keep our patients, associates and physicians safe, and is fully in compliance with Governor Abbotts executive order.

As the only dedicated freestanding pediatric facility in the region, Dell Childrens Medical Center has been crucial to ensuring the health and safety of pediatric patients during the pandemic. Dell Childrens continues to follow the quality, safety and infection prevention protocols implemented across Ascension Seton sites of care to provide uninterrupted care at both the hospital and Dell Childrens clinics.

A number of visits remain critical to a childs care during the pandemic, particularly for children with chronic health conditions, said Christopher M. Born, President of Dell Childrens. We want to encourage you to bring your child in for essential appointments, as recommended by your pediatrician. At Dell Children's, we are working diligently to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect our patients, families and staff, while providing uninterrupted care for all essential visits, including therapy appointments and emergency healthcare needs.

Returning to surgery

Since March 22, in response to the pandemic, Ascension Seton has provided surgical and procedural care only when it was medically emergent. Ascension Seton will now begin scheduling additional surgeries, prioritizing urgent procedures which have no non-procedural alternatives that meet community medical standards and are not emergent, but cannot be further delayed due to adverse healthcare risks. All patients with a scheduled surgery must test for COVID-19 at least 48 hours prior to their planned surgery date and receive a negative test result. Following the test, patients will be asked to self quarantine until their surgery date.

Additionally, Ascension Seton will continue a number of safety measures already in place, including advanced telehealth capabilities for virtual care, universal masking, hospital visitor restrictions, social distancing and screening of all persons upon entry, including temperature check for 99.5 degrees. Associates or patients who are symptomatic will be referred for testing. Ascension Seton will also conduct terminal cleaning at each hospital prior to resuming surgeries, and each hospital will have a dedicated, separate entrance for all surgical patients.

Our recovery phase focuses on providing continued COVID-19 care and surge readiness while supporting our efforts to safely return to serving the communitys broader medically necessary healthcare needs, said Dr. Samson Jesudass, Chief Clinical Officer of Ascension Texas. We know this is a fluid situation, and we are prepared to be flexible and responsive to rapidly evolving conditions in our community and our sites of care.

Cohorting COVID-19 patients

All Ascension Texas hospitals will continue their COVID-19 readiness and response plans to both eliminate the spread of the virus and to immediately manage any possible surge. COVID-19 testing will continue to be available at all Ascension Texas sites of care.

If a COVID-19 positive patient requires admission, they will be transferred to Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin or Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas. Cohorting patients follows an evidence-based approach that allows Ascension Seton to more safely care for COVID-19 patients and more efficiently utilize our resources, including PPE and staff.

As the only Level I Trauma Center for adults serving Central Texas and beyond, Dell Seton Medical Center has implemented guidelines and protocols to ensure non-COVID patients can still receive the care they may need. Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin serves as the center of excellence for advanced cardiopulmonary care and offers the only adult ECMO program in the region.

Additionally, Ascension Seton remains committed to COVID-19 planning and support through expanded COVID-19 testing at six Central Texas drive-thru testing centers and comprehensive supply monitoring, including personal protective equipment (PPE), hospital beds, laboratory testing kits, ventilators and medication. Ascension Seton will continue to participate in ongoing community surveillance in collaboration with community leaders and local health authorities.

Our collective efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are working, but the pandemic is not yet over, said Davis. As we look ahead, we ask not only our staff but our community to remain vigilant in masking, practicing social distancing and continuing to follow local orders to stop the spread of the virus.

Draft day success another sign of Gopher football’s ascension – Minnesota Daily

Posted: at 3:57 am

In the four NFL Drafts from 2016 through 2019, four Minnesota players heard their names called. Over the three-day event in 2020, teams selected five Gophers, the most in a single draft since 1990.

Since the modern draft era, when the NFL Draft reduced the number of rounds to seven in 1994, Minnesota had never managed to have more than four players selected in one year. That changed over the past weekend. For head coach P.J. Fleck, it is another indication that his program is on the rise.

"Huge not only for them, but for Gophers football," Fleck said prior to the draft. "I think this kicks off the multi-player draft classes from the University of Minnesota from now on."

The Gophers ended the 2019 season ranked No. 10 in the AP poll, their highest finish in 57 years. At this year's draft, they once again stood among the nations' best programs. Minnesota's five players drafted tied for the 11th most of any team.

One significant feat no Gopher accomplished this year was getting selected in the first round. Since the New England Patriots drafted Laurence Maroney 21st overall in 2006, no Minnesota payer has been selected in the first 32 picks.

However, safety Antoine Winfield Jr. did become highest-drafted player since Ra'Shede Hageman went 37th overall in 2014. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers picked Winfield 45th overall, the 13th selection in the second round.

"You look on ESPN yesterday and the headline, there were three people up there," Fleck said. "And one of them was Antoine Winfield Jr. in the picture, talking about the NFL Draft on the main page of ESPN. I think that is awesome for our brand, awesome for the state of Minnesota, wonderful for Antoine and his teammates."

The Buccaneers then took a second Gopher in round five, drafting wide receiver Tyler Johnson. Three more Minnesota defensive players were selected, beginning with linebacker Kamal Martin, who the Green Bay Packers selected with the 175th overall pick. In the final round, the New York Giants chose a pair of Gophers, drafting linebacker Carter Coughlin and cornerback Chris Williamson.

Afterwards, two more Minnesota players turned pro, joining teams as undrafted free agents. Running back Rodney Smith signed with the Carolina Panthers and defensive lineman Sam Renner went to the Los Angeles Rams.

For Fleck, it is no coincidence that Minnesota's most successful draft in 30 years followed its first 11-win season since 1904. He says developing players into professional prospects is a sign of the program's health and strong culture.

"It is going to propel us into the future," Fleck said. "When you start to look at next year and the year after, not only are guys going to start getting drafted, they are going to start thinking about leaving early... That's going to be really positive for our program."

Moving forward, Fleck hopes that it becomes common place for Minnesota to send multiple players to the NFL. Expectations for Gophers football are significantly higher than in years prior. With key players returning for next season and strong recruiting classes on the horizon, there is Hucause for optimism that the program's increased success in over the past 12 months will continue in the future.
