Is there too much scoring in the NBA? – Yahoo Sports
Posted: March 5, 2020 at 5:52 pm
Our weekly look at four topics players, issues, numbers, trends that are impacting and, in some cases, changing the game.
How much is too much?
Unless were talking Girl Scout cookies, Al Pacino movies or Stevie Wonder albums, everything has a saturation limit, or at least it should.
Is scoring in the NBA reaching that point?
For a league that was desperate to see scoring reach the 100s when games were slow marches to 90, the rules were opened up to increase scoring, limit overly physical play and display the athletes at their best.
That has had the desired effect almost too well.
(Yahoo Sports illustration)
Every team is averaging well over 100 points per game (league average 111.4), with the Charlotte Hornets bringing up the rear at a measly 102 per night the same production as the Miami Heat back in 2010-11.
Yes, thats the first year of the LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh partnership.
The game were watching nightly is so drastically different from the contests we saw even five years ago.
Remember that Stephen Curry bomb on Feb. 27, 2016, against the Oklahoma City Thunder in one of the greatest regular-season games of the decade? The 40-ish footer from barely a step inside of half-court that caught everyone off-guard, especially Anthony Roberson?
Well, LeBron James has hit shots from that zip code twice in the last week. The first was the not yet, kid triple Sunday that quieted the frenzied New Orleans crowd after Zion Williamson brought the house down with a dynamite dunk on a nationally televised game.
The second was a calm, walk-up triple Tuesday from the Los Angeles Lakers logo a couple nights ago.
The skill levels of the incumbent players as well as the young stars entering the league have been aided by the rules being so loose.
According to basketball-reference.com creator Justin Kubatko, February was the second month in league history in which six players Bradley Beal, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Trae Young, Jayson Tatum and Damian Lillard averaged 30 points or more.
The first month that occurred?
January 2020, with Kawhi Leonard and Devin Booker joining Lillard, Westbrook, Young and Beal.
Notice the names that havent been mentioned? Luminaries like James, Curry, Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Curry has been out most of the year, but he could wind up on that list next year, and with Durant recovering from an Achilles injury, he could return to elite status next season.
For all we know, we could be in the most golden of golden eras of scoring, with talent like Zion Williamson and Luka Doncic ready to do more damage as time goes on.
But if these explosions are so commonplace, does it diminish how special it feels, especially with defenses not having much of a chance to earn the benefit of the doubt?
Whether its the gather and two steps rule or no more hand-checking or mere evolution, it feels like were in a juiced-ball era that would make the slow-down coaches of the 90s cringe.
This isnt opining to go back there, not by a long shot.
But maybe, just maybe, we can play some games on All-Madden once in a while?
OK, old man no longer yelling at cloud.
Speaking of scoring in bunches, Brooklyns Caris LeVert claimed best performance of the week with his 51-point showing (the 20th time a player has dropped 50 this year) against the Celtics on Tuesday night, with 37 coming in the fourth quarter and overtime in a comeback win.
Hes an intriguing piece for the future as the Nets will have Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving presumably back in the fold next season. He can play both swing positions and his three-year, $52 million extension kicks in next season as the Nets expect to contend.
Hes had freakish injuries in college at Michigan and with the Nets the scariest one last year when he injured his foot on an awkward fall in Minnesota that many feared could cost him his potential. He missed eight weeks this season following surgery on his right thumb, but made the turn following the All-Star break, averaging 21 before the 51-point explosion.
Story continues
Health is a big part of that, LeVert, 25, told Yahoo Sports. Confidence and mental approach has been the same throughout but injuries are a big thing. Most of the time, theyre unpredictable. Its tough coming back from those, for sure. From the outside looking in, it doesnt look that way. Its like, you had a finger injury, you should be back to yourself within a week.
Its not always like that. Minute restrictions, different role. Getting that stuff behind me, thats big for sure.
Especially with Irvings injuries being more frequent and the star guard having a third season-ending injury, getting the supporting pieces right could be the difference in their franchise being a true contender or being a tier below it.
Identifying the right role for LeVert could be priority No. 1. Is he a second option or a third one? Assuming his health, the rest of the season could be an audition for LeVert to establish his value on this team or around the league.
I dont look at it like that, LeVert told Yahoo Sports. We have 21 games left. So for me, thats 21 opportunities to get better. Everyone wants to be that guy. Nobodys coming in here this year. Ky just had surgery. Kevins probably not coming back this year. So its just fun. Living in the moment, trying to win games.
LeVert calls Durant a big brother-like figure, someone whose voice resonates because he speaks up so rarely. And if nothing else, the two can bond over shared experiences of the dreadful days of rehab.
But LeVerts a curious piece moving forward, and should the Nets want fewer ball-handlers around Durant and Irving, plenty of teams will line up to take a player who hasnt yet reached his potential.
Im still trying to figure it out, LeVert told Yahoo Sports. I dont put limits on myself. Its exciting to go out there and try to reach what that is. [Tuesday] was a huge milestone for my confidence, but I dont put limits on it. I dont feel like thats the last time Ill do that. Its more opportunity for me to do that and more.
The NBA isnt in panic mode over the coronavirus yet.
Across the world, other leagues are taking precautions, even having games without fans.
Thats not where the NBA is, and it isnt known how bad things would have to get domestically for it to take that road.
The league postponed the inaugural Basketball Africa League on Tuesday after escalating concerns and sent out memos to teams about how players should physically interact with others, regarding high-fives, autograph signings with fans and jersey exchanges.
One owner who spoke with Yahoo Sports called the daily memos more informational than directional, with the NBA taking the lead from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and making suggestions on keeping arenas as sanitized as possible, with more hand-washing stations around concourses and concession stands.
There isnt a sense anything drastic will happen, but the NBA is closely monitoring the situation.
This will be short and sweet.
Welcome back, Stephen Curry.
While it would've been understandable if Curry chose to sit the rest of the season because of his left hand injury saving his body after five long playoff runs and giving the Golden State Warriors the best odds at a top pick in this summer's draft he's returning to play out the season, beginning Thursday night at home against the Raptors.
Dont forget: There are fans who've paid top dollar to fill that new arena across the Bay Bridge, too.
As far as NBA ambassadors with accomplishments and equity with the fans, there's LeBron James and Curry and Curry is building up even more currency by playing the rest of the year.

House Okays $8 Billion Funds to Combat COVID-19: 3 Winners – Yahoo Finance
Posted: at 5:52 pm
The House of Representatives passed a bill for allotment of funds in an emergency pool earlier this week, which is to be used to counter the damaging effects of the coronavirus outbreak is expected to have on the domestic economy.
Let us analyze which stocks are expected to benefit from this emergency stash.
House Allocates $8 Billion to Emergency Funds
On Mar 4, the House passeda legislation that allocates more than $8 billion to emergency funds to battle against the spread of coronavirus. The bill won by a voting ratio of 415-2. Republican lawmakers Ken Buck of Colorado and Andy Biggs of Arizona were the only members who voted unfavorably.
The emergency funds aim to provide more than $3 billion for vaccine research and $2.2 billion for efforts in prevention and preparedness. Medical tests and vaccine research to combat the pandemic are urgent tasks right now, which many biotechnology firms in the country are working on actively.
Companies, such as Moderna, Inc. MRNA, Inovio Pharmaceuticals, Inc. INO and Vir Biotechnology, Inc. VIR are currently in the process of developing the much-needed vaccines.
The congressional spending proposal is considerably higher than the $2.5 billion that the White House had proposed in late February. The bill also authorizes about $500 million to allow Medicare providers to offer telehealth services, which would benefit elderly patients to receive care in the comforts of their homes.
The bill is now headed to the Senate for approval. Should it be passed effectively, it will then make its way to President Donald Trumps desk, who is expected to give a green signal. Trump had earlier indicated at a news conference that he would spend whatever is appropriate to fight the COVID-19 outbreak.
After all, death toll in the United States climbed to 11 and minimum 138 are infected. Of the 11, 10 deaths were confirmed from Washington while one was registered in California. Globally, the pandemic claimed more than 3,100 lives.

Nikki Haley Is Planning Her FutureAnd It May Include a Presidential Run – Yahoo News
Posted: at 5:52 pm
Last week, just after candidates for the Democratic Party presidential nomination gathered to debate in downtown Charleston, S.C., a rising star of the Republican Party was also talking about the future. We have a lot left to do, Nikki Haley, former governor of South Carolina and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said at the first annual Women for Women Summit organized by the College of Charleston School of Business.
Haley, who spoke after receiving the Woman of Courage Award, didnt announce she will run for president on the Republican ticket in 2024. But she has been mentioned as a potential running mate to Donald Trump this year or a candidate for the presidency herself in 2024and there was little doubt that possibility was on the minds of those present. Shes definitely going to run, said a fellow speaker at the event, not for attribution. I dont think theres any question about it: This year is Trumps, but shes laying the groundwork for the race after that.

Lining up to get her picture taken with Haley before her speech, a business school student effused, Im a Democrat, but Id definitely vote for her. Shes a woman who doesnt let herself get pushed around.
Haley has an advocacy group, Stand for America, which promotes that image. Merchandise baring the quotes I will not shut up and With all due respect, I dont get confusedrefer to comments she made during her time with the Trump administration. Haley, who was a member of Trumps cabinet and the National Security Council until she left her UN post in October 2018, made the first comment to Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat at the UN after the administration decided to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. The second comment was directed at Trump economic advisor Larry Kudlow after he told reporters that Haley had gotten ahead of the curve and suffered momentary confusion in previewing policy around sanctions against Russia.
Her ability to stand apart from but also voice support for Donald Trump is what has made her an intriguing figure in Republican politics. A memoir, With All Due Respect: Defending America With Grit and Grace, released in November 2019, continued her tightrope walk. In it, Haley criticized former secretary of state Rex Tillerson and former White House chief of staff John Kelly, much to Trumps delight.
At the Women for Women Summit, Haley talked about her war stories, including the Kudlow incident, and urged her audience to be true to themselves. Haleys truth is still unclear, but its likely well see her in politics again, soon. As she said at the end of a short film that played before her talk, Im too young to stop fighting.
Haley declined an interview with Worth.

Fan confronts Astros over sign-stealing scandal: ‘You guys keeping the trophy?’ – Yahoo Sports
Posted: at 5:52 pm
The Houston Astros know what kind of reception theyll get on the road in 2020. Opposing fans have made that clear, relentlessly booing the team during spring training. While the Astros will have to take their lumps on the road, at least theyll get a reprieve from that criticism when they play at home. Theres no way the teams fans would turn on the Astros, right?
[Batter up: Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Baseball league for free today]
Well ... that might not be true. Sure, some Astros fans are willing to continue supporting the club, but others feel betrayed as a result of the teams cheating. One brave fan even confronted the team during a spring training game:
That fan was able to get right next to the dugout to heckle the Astros. He asked the team if they are keeping the trophy. He then asked about Jose Altuves MVP award and the World Series rings.
Most players ignored the fan, and didnt even look in his direction. However, one member of the Astros decided to respond to the fans jeers. Someone in the Astros dugout told the fan, As long as you keep paying to come see us. The person who says that briefly appears in the lower left-hand corner of the video.
Thats a pretty terrible answer, but the fan handled it well. He responded to the Astros by saying, Ill come and do this.
The entire exchange perfectly summarizes why people are frustrated with the Astros heading into 2020. Its not just that the team cheated and suffered virtually no consequences, its the entire organizations lack of remorse. Fans wanted more contrite apologies and some humility from team owner Jim Crane. Instead, they got players indignantly claiming they are going to shut people up and telling fans the team just wants their money.
While frustrated fans may find the above video cathartic, that type of heckling isnt going to carry over into the regular season. When the Astros are at Minute Maid Park, the team will have more control over the situation, and a larger security force to send after fans.
It might be a different story when the team leaves Houston. As long as its respectful, fans will have more leeway to pull off stunts like this when the Astros go on the road in 2020.

Stephen Curry returning to Warriors on Thursday vs. Raptors – Yahoo Sports
Posted: at 5:52 pm
Stephen Curry is officially back.
The Golden State Warriors star will make his return on Thursday at home against the Toronto Raptors, the team announced Wednesday.
News of Currys return was first reported by The Athletics Anthony Slater. It is not known if Curry will be on any kind of minutes limit.
What is known is that the sharpshooter is amped for his return.
The Warriors have been without Curry since he broke his non-shooting hand in the teams fourth game of the season. He had previously been on track for a return at some point in March.
Currys first game back will feature a tough opponent in the 43-18 Raptors, a team that ranks second in the league in defensive rating. Of course, the Warriors arent exactly in a position where they need wins right now.
In Currys absence, the Warriors have completely floundered.
The team is 13-35 in games without its superstar and currently holds the worst record in the NBA. Currys backcourt partner Klay Thompson has already been ruled out for the season, and this summers offseason prize DAngelo Russell has been traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for draft picks and reclamation project Andrew Wiggins.
Even with Curry back, the team is clearly coming nowhere near playoff contention. The goal with Currys return is likely less to mount a comeback in the final 20 games of the season and more getting him and his teammates up to speed for next year.
The Warriors currently have a four-game lead in the loss column for the top spot in the NBA draft lottery, and a quirk of the lottery odds is that their position will be the same as long as they stay in the bottom three. That gives them at least a few games for Curry to potentially show the team is still to be feared when next seasons comeback tour rolls around.

WellSet is doing a limited launch in Los Angeles of its alternative medicine booking platform – TechCrunch
Posted: at 5:51 pm
Alternative and holistic healthcare seekers in the Los Angeles area have a new service they can turn to in WellSet, the listing platform that launched on Tuesday.
Through the service, customers coming off the companys existing waitlist can access its marketplace for finding acupuncturists, massage therapists, functional medicine practitioners, craniosacral therapists, nutritionists, life coaches and holistic therapists.
WellSet will serve up practitioners based on a users health concerns, as well as the price, location and type of practice on offer.
The company takes a 30% referral fee for its first booking and a 3% booking fee for future appointments booked through its platform. It also provides backend services like intake form management, insurance management and other logistical offerings, according to co-founder Tegan Bukowski.
Co-founder Sky Meltzer and Bukowski began working on the company two-and-a-half years ago, according to Bukowski. A former Yale-educated architect who worked for the starchitect Zaha Hadid, Bukowski founded the company because of her own experience with the healthcare industry. While in school she suffered through frequent trips to the hospital for what was an undiagnosed mystery illness, which she eventually treated holistically.
For the first 10,000 people to sign up for the companys waitlist, WellSet is offering a $20 credit for the first session booked on the platform, once WellSet launches in their city.
So far the company has roughly 7,000 practitioners on the service and enough providers to launch in at least five major markets. Its deliberate rollout strategy will see the company opening its virtual doors in New York and San Francisco in the coming months.
The Los Angeles-based company was founded by Bukowski, who serves as co-founder and chief executive officer. Meltzer, the companys executive chairman and co-founder, was the former chief executive of the yoga company Manduka. Rounding out the team is Hanna Madrigan, a former Pinterest employee who now serves as the chief operating officer.
The company is backed by investors including Kleiner Perkins, Broadway Angels (a female-focused Silicon Valley investment firm) and Kelly Noonan Gores, writer, producer and director of the documentary Heal.
Theres a small holistic healing community growing in Los Angeles. Gwyneth Paltrows Goop is by far the best funded of these new companies, but startups like Kensho Health are making their presence felt, as well.
Increasingly, holistic healing and functional medicine are seen as viable options for certain types of chronic conditions. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid recently added acupuncture as a reimbursable treatment opening the door to the possibility that other conditions may be covered by the government and private insurers.

MU College of Veterinary Medicine research discovers harmful effects of alternative chemicals in plastics – The Maneater
Posted: at 5:51 pm
A recent discovery by Cheryl Rosenfeld of the College of Veterinary Medicine shows that BPA-free plastic is just as toxic as plastic with chemical alternatives in them. One of these chemical alternatives is called bisphenol, or BPS, and is used to make plastics.
For this study, Rosenfeld and colleagues from different universities focused on how the BPA affected the placenta of a mouse. The team decided to use a mouse for this experiment because the placenta has a similar structure for both mice and humans.
The substitutes have a very similar chemical structure to BPA, Rosenfeld said. They can bind to the same types of receptors.
That is what led them to choose the placenta. Rosenfeld said the placenta serves as the main communication working between the mother and the fetus. Anything the mother is exposed to, the developing child can also be exposed to.
Rosenfelds lab is particularly interested in behavior disorders, so this led Rosenfeld to look into the effects of BPA and serotonin. According to an article from Futurity, the placenta is the primary source for serotonin for brain growth in both human and mouse fetuses.
This chemical is most commonly associated with happy feelings, but it can also affect the functional abilities of someone as well as their emotions and activities. The brain relies on the placenta to produce this chemical, and due to BPA and BPS exposure, there can be longtime health repercussions.
The process began in 2017 and took two and a half years to complete. For the study, researchers put BPA on a Nilla Wafer and gave it to the female mice two weeks prior to breeding and then gave it to the male mice. They ingested the chemical daily.
Because a primary abroad of exposure for both chemicals is through oral ingestion, theyre in our common household items like plastic water bottles and the lining of canned goods, Rosenfeld said.
The concentration of BPA or BPS can be seen in the mother and then seen in how it affects the placenta. The placenta gives researchers a better idea of the diseases the offspring is likely to develop.
When Rosenfeld was asked if she thought the companies would alter the production of plastic due to the chemicals, she was unsure.
I think [to me] a single study may not convince them, Rosenfeld said. But I think when you start to get a ringing chorus of studies all showing the same results that could change things a bit.
Rosenfeld thinks there should be no more cause for concern on whether or not it influences the producers decision, but rather it is rather up to the consumers.
The Futurity article said funding for this research came from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Additionally, there were other authors for the study from Iowa State University and University of Florida.
Vance Trudeau, research chair from University of Ottawa, commented on the topic. One thing he mentioned was how the results found in the study can be beneficial beyond mice and humans.
Other placental mammals could be exposed in the wild through polluted waters, garbage etc., Trudeau said in an email. More of a concern [to me] are the potential effects on aquatic animals such as frogs and fish who dont have placentas.

Alternative Therapies You Can Use to Maximize Your Mental Health – GQ
Posted: at 5:51 pm
We can all agree therapy is good and everyone deserves access to it. If youve gone through the laborious process of finding a therapist you like, and youre really working on talking things out now, great job! Also...remember how your therapist told you there are no simple answers in life?
Psychotherapy, or what most of us call talk therapy, is (alongside medication) about the most common mental health service people seek out. And it is very solidly backed by research as a helpful treatment for lots of people, including those with depression and anxiety. Of course, lots doesnt mean all. Not everyone has the insurance or financial means for it (though group therapy and therapist-in-training programs offer free or low-cost alternatives.) And everyone benefits in different ways from talking things out. For some people it really doesnt work, and for others its not good enough on its own.
The good news is that there are lots of other types of therapy out there, which traditional therapists generally approve ofthey may even be able to recommend what could work for you. These programs, practices, and treatments all fall under the broad category Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM)that means anything that still needs more well-designed studies to determine safety, exactly what it can treat, and how it should be applied.
How to navigate the options? Its right there in the name: sometimes its alternative if you prefer, say, collaging with a professional to just talking to them; other times its a complement, for those who may want to pair a CAM therapy with counseling. Other practices that fall under CAM, like yoga, are simply good practices that can have therapeutic effect or complement therapy. Some of these more alternative treatments just don't have as much research behind them as talk therapy does, says Vaile Wright, director of research and special projects in the Practice Directorate at the American Psychological Association. But, she says, a lot of behavioral health professionals look beyond talk therapy as a way to further bump up peoples quality of life. If talk therapy can get people 50 percent better, how do you get to 75 percent?
A lot of alternative therapies you might have heard of tap into what talk therapy usually doesnt: physicality. Think art, music, dance and other movement, gardening, or animal-assisted therapy (dogs, usually!). These can be fun and can fit with different peoples interests and values (which can make a huge difference in therapy), but theyre not yet evidence-supported as mental health treatments. Unbiased studies that do exist often test their promise in treating specific things: post-traumatic stress disorder, chronic pain. The good news is that they may still offer some mental health benefits for the obvious reason: creative, soothing activities can soothe you. Studies about art therapy, for example, do support the idea that it can have an immediate stress-reducing effectits just not clear yet how, say, people with anxiety would benefit from a specifically administered program. Similar conclusions have been reached for therapeutic interventions involving dog- and music-assisted therapy, basically for the reasons youd guess: dogs and music generally make us feel good. The bad news is that, as formal therapy programs, these are going to cost you just as much as talk therapy, and theyre even less likely to be covered by insurance.
Three other alternative therapies have shown promise, with varying degrees of supporting research. Bibliotherapy involves getting a syllabus of either self-help or fiction books with the former showing promise for people with depression and the latter showing slightly more ambiguous promise, therapeutically speaking. But again, being given a therapeutic list of novels may be soothing becausewho wouldnt want that? Biofeedback involves tracking bodily changes you may take for grantedheart rate, breathing, sweat gland activitythat are known to change with, say, anxiety. Training to control those reactions while hooked up to sensors in a therapists office has shown promise in helping with stress and anxiety. Perhaps the most evidence-based alternative therapies are mindfulness programs, like mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), which usually involves eight weeks of training in specific meditation techniques. Psychologists talk about decentering, getting away from your thoughts and looking at them more objectively, and meditative practice allows that, says David Shutleff, deputy director of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health at the National Institutes of Health. Theres also evidence theyre actually changing your brain. New circuits are developing that give you more emotional control, understanding, and self reflection.

The world of alternative medicine, holistic healing, acupuncture, and even massage therapy has increasingly become more mainstream over the past few years. Local wellness center, Creative Wellness staff and founders know firsthand just how transformative these types of medicine can be. The business has been a mainstay in the East Lansing area for almost three decades. Creative Wellness (2045 Asher Court, East Lansing) is celebrating its 30th anniversary, having first opened its doors for business on April 2, 1990.
The business was originally housed in less than 2,000 square feet, off of Abbot Road, by a team of six founders. Today, it operates with two co-directors, Irene Savoyat and Chris Reay. The pair said the initial mission of the center remains the same: to assist clients in achieving and maintaining ultimate wellness. Creative Wellness aims to build a bridge between conventional treatment and complimentary health services, something they were the first in the area to do. While rooted in massage therapy, the center offers Tai chi classes, meditation, yoga, energy work, baby massage, partner massage, and a variety of self-care classes.
Marketing director Anne Subrizi, said Creative Wellness services include massage, acupuncture, and meditation all methods which work well in conjunction with conventional medicine and treatments. The business goal is to provide an oasis, a respite where people can relax, knowing theyre under the care of skilled professionals.
Currently, they have 47 employees, with a couple dozen of massage therapists, and are continually growing with several massage therapy positions open to qualified applicants. Throughout this growth, Reay has seen an increased level of support from the medical community working hand-in-hand with health care centers and physicians.
Creative Wellness services include massage, acupuncture, and meditation all methods which work well in conjunction with conventional medicine and treatments.
They trust us to provide quality, complimentary care, and to work together with them on their health care, Reay said. We have also seen a great increase in the number of insurance companies who are now covering this care increased number of comprehensive health plans that now cover, in addition to chiropractic, medically necessary massage therapy, as well as acupuncture.
Savoyat said this acceptance by the science and medical communities have opened the floodgate for those looking to increase their wellness. Doctors are now prescribing and referring patients to attend meditation and yoga classes as a means of coordinated care. Creative Wellness has begun receiving referrals from the Veterans Health Administration, offering massage therapy and chiropractic methods to veterans with acute and chronic pain from military service.
The most-used form of alternative medicine that Creative Wellness offers, which many are not aware of is acupuncture in Chinese medicine. This can help alleviate symptoms from gastrointestinal, gynecological, respiratory, circulatory disorders, as well chemotherapy and radiation side effects.
Throughout the 75 different community events Creative Wellness donates gift certificates, or time to including races, wellness days, staff appreciation days, and more, Anne said there is one thing people are most curious about.
When we go out into the community, what people are most interested in talking to us about is acupuncture, Subrizi said. Acupuncture, 30 years ago, but even in the last five to ten years, has become more mainstream. Its another thing in terms of this community, that we offer, but there are not a lot of people here that offer it.
In turn, the East Lansing community has supported Creative Wellness, having awarded Crystal Awards, local best of awards to individual massage therapists, and mentions from Chamber of Commerce as well. Today, the locations 10,000+ square foot space remains rooted in the goal of encouraging patients to become active participants in their individual health journeys.
Currently, the center is in the midst of becoming a partner within the Medicare network. Medicare just announced they are covering acupuncture for low back pain, based on research studies, Reay said. Theres a lot of paperwork and hoops to go through to both qualify, and maintain the relationship with Medicare, but were doing that in order to increase access. That will help our retired community members in East Lansing, and the elderly in this area.
For Savoyat, and fellow staff, the business is thankful and humbled by the continued support, and hope to celebrate another 30 years as a business.
We are grateful to the community of East Lansing who has welcomed us, and supported us all these years, grateful to the wonderful clients who have entrusted their health and well-being to us, and grateful to our remarkable staff members, who by their professional skills and thoughtfulness, do their best every day, to be there for each client who comes in the door, Savoyat said. You all have helped us make Creative Wellness what it is today.

Fountain Hills massage therapist accused of sexually assaulting female patients – 12news.com KPNX

FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. A Maricopa County massage therapist was arrested Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting his customers.
Gary Nash, 62, is accused of groping, sexually touching and penetrating five female patients while claiming that it was part of the procedure.
Nash operated the Fountains of Youth Renewal Center in Fountain Hills which offered massage therapy and alternative medicine even though Nash is not licensed or trained in the practice.
Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone says Nash preyed on women suffering from ailments ranging from arthritis to diseases and claimed to provide a remedy.
"He would groom them and gain their trust," Penzone said. He found a way to put them in a vulnerable position and took advantage."
Investigators were tipped off by one victim and detectives reached out to the other four. The victims range in age between 37 and 53.
One woman claims the crimes had been ongoing since 2013 and up to last month.
Another alleged victim says she was charged $25,000 for the procedures, and that Nash requested another $35,000 for essential oils.
The confidentiality and trust expected in a doctor/patient relationship was the tactic this criminal used to abuse victims in their vulnerable state. This guise in portraying himself as a legitimate medical provider is a disturbing and disgusting predatory abuse, Penzone said.
The sheriff's office believes more victims may be out there and are asking them to reach out to investigators.
Nash was charged with over 30 counts of various sex crimes on top of fraud and practicing medicine without a license.
Nash faced a judge Wednesday and denied the allegations against him.
"I maintain that I did everything with accountability and with permission and with the appropriate licenses," Nash said to the judge.
Nash's bond was set at $50,000. He was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victims and he will be electronically monitored. His next court date is on March 10.
