My hope is that sharing my journey will open a dialogue about mental health for millions of people. - Lamar Odom

Lamar Odom Reborn Official Trailer

As a public figure, Odom's challenges with addiction are well-documented, but what is lesser known are the deep-rooted pain and trauma he endured with the loss of his mother as a child and then untimely loss of his own son, Jaden, at just six month old. Lamar admits he self-medicated and avoided professional interventions given the stigma attached with mental health treatment.

"Admitting you are depressed or asking for help is a challenge for anyone," says Odom. "My hope is that sharing my journey in Reborn will open a dialogue for millions of people. The alternative medicines I explore in the film changed my life, giving me the power and strength to make better choices, repair relationships, and break unhealthy patterns. Just months after my first ketamine and ibogaine treatments, I felt physically well enough to play professional basketball again."

"While ibogaine is legal in other countries, it is not available in the United States, yet," says Zappy Zapolin, director of Reborn and psychedelic concierge to the stars. "Ketamine, however, is an FDA-approved anesthetic that has been hailed as a miracle for treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction, and more. Research at Yale School of Medicine has shown that a single dose of ketamine can rapidly reverse stress-induced damage to brain cell connections."

"Zappy and I have been touting the benefits of medical ketamine therapy for several years now," says Warren Gumpel, Producer of Reborn. "As co-founders of the non-profit The Ketamine Fund,we have been able to donate over 500 free, medically-supervised ketamine treatments to veterans suffering from PTSD, substantially reducing their depression and suicidal ideation."

Today, Lamar continues to support his mental health with at-home ketamine treatments through a company called KetaMD, the evolution of The Ketamine Fund project, also founded by Zappy Zapolin and Warren Gumpel. Currently in beta, the duo founded KetaMD to provide affordable and accessible at-home medical ketamine treatments to the millions of Americans who are suffering from anxiety, depression, PTSD, and suicidal thoughts. Lamar Odom Rebornwill be released on May 20, 2021 on All Def's YouTube channel for "Mental Health Action Day," in partnership with MTV Entertainment Group. There will also be a global viewing event with Lamar and the filmmakers on May 22, 2021 on Facebook at Facebook.com/Unify at 2 pm PT/5 pm ET.

Global Cell Therapy Market Report 2021 Featuring Key Innovators Such as JCR Pharmaceuticals, NuVasive, Medipost, Vericel, and Avantor – Market to…

Posted: at 10:01 am

DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The "Global Cell Therapy Market By Therapy Type, By Therapeutic Area, By End User, By Cell Type, By Regional Outlook, Industry Analysis Report and Forecast, 2020 - 2026" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering.

The Global Cell Therapy Market size is expected to reach $28.5 billion by 2026, rising at a market growth of 26.2% CAGR during the forecast period.

Cell therapy is considered as a technology that is based on substituting dysfunctional or diseased cells with active & functional cells. Stem cells possess the capability to differentiate into particular cells needed for repairing damaged or defective tissues or cells, that's why they are utilized for these advanced therapies.

In addition, cell therapy is used in the development of regenerative medicines, which is an interdisciplinary domain aimed at maintenance, enhancement, or restoration of cell, tissue, organ function with the help of procedures majorly associated with cell therapy.

Moreover, cells like bone marrow and blood cells, mature, immature & solid tissue cells, adult stem cells, and embryonic cells are extensively deployed in cell therapy methods. Further, transplanted cells involve embryonic stem cells (ESCs), pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), neural stem cells (NSCs), and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are bifurcated mainly two groups viz. Allogeneic cell therapy and non-Allogeneic cell therapy.

At present, there are two types of cell therapies exist. The first type is cell therapy in mainstream medicine. This category includes human embryonic stem cell therapy, mesenchymal stem cell therapy, neural stem cell therapy, Autologous cell therapy, and hematopoietic stem cell therapy. The second category is in alternative medicine and perpetuates the practice of injecting animal materials in an effort to cure diseases. This practice, as per the American Cancer Society, is not supported by any medical proof of efficiency and can have fatal results.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has affected many biopharmaceutical units, while many cellular therapy development organizations have observed a severe impact, which is due to the complexities in logistics and manufacturing models used in this sector. Moreover, considerable and constant investment is essential to allow effective commercial translation of cell-based therapeutics, an aspect that was negatively affected in 2020, further affected the overall market growth.

Therapy Type Outlook

Based on Therapy Type, the market is segmented into Autologous and Allogeneic. The Autologous therapies segment is expected to show gradual growth due to the massive cost associated with Autologous transplants and comparatively less relapse rates. Though, development in cell banking and companies' switch towards the creation of allogenic therapy products is boosting the cell therapy market.

Therapeutic Area Outlook

Based on Therapeutic Area, the market is segmented into Malignancies, Autoimmune Disorders, Musculoskeletal Disorders, Dermatology and Others. The Malignancies market dominated the Global Cell Therapy Market by Therapeutic Area 2019, growing at a CAGR of 25.2 % during the forecast period. The Autoimmune Disorders market is experiencing a CAGR of 27.6% during (2020 - 2026). Additionally, The Musculoskeletal Disorders market is expected to showcase a CAGR of 27.2% during (2020 - 2026).

End User Outlook

Based on End User, the market is segmented into Academic & Research Institutes and Hospitals & Clinics. In 2019, the Academic & Research Institutes segment emerged as the leading segment of the market and held the highest revenue share. The stem cells are significantly being utilized for research projects, which as a result, has contributed to a massive revenue share for the Academic & Research Institutes segment. The segment is expected to show a similar trend during the forecast period.

Cell Type Outlook

Based on Cell Type, the market is segmented into Stem Cell, Umbilical Cord-Derived, Adipose-Derived Stem Cell, Non-Stem Cell, Bone Marrow, Blood and Others. The Stem Cell market dominated the Global Cell Therapy Market by Cell Type 2019, and is expected to continue to be a dominant market till 2026. The Umbilical Cord-Derived market is expected to witness a CAGR of 27.7% during (2020 - 2026).

Sonu Sood asks why are doctors recommending unavailable medicines to patients: ‘How will a common man get them?’ – Hindustan Times

Posted: at 10:01 am

Actor Sonu Sood on Wednesday raised his concern over doctors recommending an injection or medicine despite it being unavailable. Taking to Twitter, he shared a post asking doctors if a substitute can be prescribed that will also help save a life.

Sonu tweeted, "One simple question: When everyone knows a particular injection is not available anywhere, why does every doctor recommends that injection only? When the hospitals cannot get that medicine then how will a common man get? Why can't v use a substitute of that medicine &save a life?"

His fans and followers reacted to the post. One wrote, "Yess , You're right Remdesvir can be substituted but Amphotericin B cannot be substituted , it's the drug of choice We'll have to do new research to develop new treatment , till then it's important." Another said, "Absolutely agree with you however it might be possible that all alternative medicines are in shortage condition now. But yes Doctor can always suggest few names with same chemical composition instead of same brand. Boss You are like a bright sunflower. Keep it up.#SaveLife" A third wrote, "@SonuSood Sir, The medicine will become scarce when demand rises and supply falls. Consequently, opening doors to more black marketing and fake medicines. Legit substitutes are must same like different covid variants."

Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) national secretary Sumit Agarwal tweeted, "Some medicines do NOT have an alternative. If youre referring to Liposomal amphotericin B, it has no known alternative as of now. They can only prescribe what medical science has created for them. It is the systems responsibility to ensure medicines are available not doctors."

Recently, Sonu responded after the Twitter account of Ganjam district magistrate and collector had said that his foundation didn't contact them to arrange a bed for a person who was in need, adding that it took credit for the same. Sonu then provided WhatsApp conversation screenshots with a person who was looking for an oxygen bed.

Sonu, since last year has been providing aid to those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. In an interview in 2020, he had told SpotboyE, I am not really going out of my way to justify my behaviour to people who doubt my intentions. To be negative is in their DNA. Its not their fault. All these are trolls. They have no spine and they are only seeking attention.

electroCore, Inc. Celebrates Veterans and Active Members of the Military During National Military Appreciation Month – Business Wire

Posted: at 10:01 am

ROCKAWAY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--National Military Appreciation Month commemorates and expresses gratitude for the sacrifices current and former members of the U.S. armed forces have made for our countrys freedom. electroCore, Inc., a commercial-stage bioelectronic medicine company, is dedicated to the advancement and accessibility of healthcare solutions for veterans and hopes this important commemorative month will keep the health and treatment of military personnel top of mind.

As a result of their service, our veterans experience health challenges unique to their demographic such as burn pit exposure, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI), says Peter Staats, MD, Chief Medical Officer of electroCore and Chief Medical Officer at the National Spine and Pain Centers. These ailments can lead to lifelong pain. In fact, a staggering 92% of military personnel are silently suffering from associated symptoms connected with TBI such as chronic headache, cluster headache, post-traumatic headache, and migraine.

electroCore has found success in preventing and treating migraine and cluster headache in the veteran community through its non-drug, non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS) device, gammaCore SapphireTM, which has received 510(k) clearance from the FDA. The vagus nerve serves as the communication superhighway carrying information between the brain and internal organs and has a direct role in regulating pain in the human body. When the vagus nerve is electrically stimulated via nVNS, it can prevent and provide relief from migraines and cluster headaches.

Migraine, cluster headache, and other headache conditions can severely disrupt work, activities, or time spent with friends and family, becoming an overall impairment to daily living, says Sara Sacco, MD, Neurologist with the Carolinas Headache Clinic who often treats veterans within the Charlotte, North Carolina region. As a headache specialist, I make it a top priority to guide veterans to the appropriate avenue of treatment for these disabling conditions and give them the tools to help them reclaim their lives. I encourage all veterans to ask providers and learn more about non-pharmaceutical, alternative treatments, including non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation for migraine and cluster headache, and seek the treatment they deserve and put the control back into their hands."

gammaCore Sapphire is available through the VA and in military treatment facilities at no charge to patients through Federal Supply Schedule (FSS) eligible entities which covers over nine million veterans and active military personnel. With access to this treatment, veterans have already seen positive results in preventing and treating cluster headache and migraine.

Jess Ayers served almost a decade in the Navy, including tours on two submarines, and was also a part of Operation Deep Freeze. 23 years following retirement, injuries from an accident while rebuilding an air force runway led him down the dark road of migraine.

Its just been headache after headache, says Jess. The light bothers me. Its a stabbing pain on the left or right side of my head, like someone is sticking a poker through my eye or over my forehead. I have tension in the back of my neck and a lot of pressure, and it feels like my brain is in a vice.

With no success in using prescription drugs, he met with a new neurologist who suggested gammaCore as a possible solution.

The migraines started going away. I didnt have to wait three or four months with gammaCore. After three or four treatments, my headaches were gone, says Jess. I was able to start doing things and feel like a human being again. Its my go-to. I believe gammaCore should be available to everyone.

electroCore remains at the forefront of veteran clinical research. Currently electroCore is exploring nVNS as a potential treatment for mild TBI and PTSD alongside Atlanta VA Medical Center, one of several studies that are testament to electroCores dedication to improving the lives of veterans and active military personnel.

More doctors need to know this therapy exists and how it can help their patients for migraine and cluster headache, says Eric Liebler, Senior Vice President of Neurology at electroCore. Our team is studying other applications of nVNS therapys effectiveness such as post traumatic headache, as nVNS has the potential to change how we look at treating many diseases.

About electroCore, Inc.

electroCore, Inc. is a commercial stage bioelectronic medicine company dedicated to improving patient outcomes through its platform non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation therapy initially focused on the treatment of multiple conditions in neurology. The companys current indications are the preventative treatment of cluster headache and migraine and acute treatment of migraine and episodic cluster headache.

For more information, visit http://www.electrocore.com.

About gammaCoreTM

gammaCoreTM (nVNS) is the first non-invasive, hand-held medical therapy applied at the neck as an adjunctive therapy to treat migraine and cluster headache through the utilization of a mild electrical stimulation to the vagus nerve that passes through the skin. Designed as a portable, easy-to-use technology, gammaCore can be self-administered by patients, as needed, without the potential side effects associated with commonly prescribed drugs. When placed on a patients neck over the vagus nerve, gammaCore stimulates the nerves afferent fibers, which may lead to a reduction of pain in patients.

gammaCore is FDA cleared in the United States for adjunctive use for the preventive treatment of cluster headache in adult patients, the acute treatment of pain associated with episodic cluster headache in adult patients, and the acute and preventive treatment of migraine in adolescent (ages 12 and older) and adult patients. gammaCore is CE-marked in the European Union for the acute and/or prophylactic treatment of primary headache (Migraine, Cluster Headache, Trigeminal Autonomic Cephalalgias and Hemicrania Continua) and Medication Overuse Headache in adults.

gammaCore is contraindicated for patients if they:

Safety and efficacy of gammaCore have not been evaluated in the following patients:

Jess Ainscough was Australias first alternative medicine influencer. Her story ended tragically. – Mamamia

Posted: at 10:00 am

"I decided thatI would do everything in my power to thrive in life, in spite of the looming expiration date I'd been given. I learned how to treat myself with absolute kindness & self-respect. I radicalised my diet. I systematically detoxifiedmy body - and mind."

Jess was a devotee of Gerson therapy, a food-based protocol that claims to cure all kinds of serious ailments, most famously cancer, with an all vegetariandiet and a strict regime of fruit and vegetable juices and coffee enemas.

Sydney GP and author of the book 'Fake Medicine', Dr Brad McKay, says during her treatment, Jess Ainscough built a profile while promoting her belief that food was medicine.

In Mamamia's Extraordinary Storiespodcast on MPlus, McKay spoke to host Emma Gillespie about what Gerson therapy entails.

"Gerson therapy has been a therapy that's been around for many, many years - even from the 60s and 70s. It's a treatment that involves doing lots and lots of juices - so fresh vegetables and fruit, putting them into a big juicer. And it's quite onerous, because you have to have the juice on the hour, every hour, every day for a long time," he said.

"It also involves using enemas, that usually either contain coffee or castor oil. And again, you need to be doing these enemas a couple of times a day at least with the whole principle that you're trying to rid your body of toxins that could be sittingin your lower intestine and evacuating them.

"It hasn't been proven to work, and there are practitioners around the world that still do it. But certainly it's not recommended in Australia."

Despite there being no scientific evidence that Gerson therapy cures cancer, Jess persisted.

She started a website, wrote books, appeared on television and attracted tens of thousands of social media followers, influencing many, many people throughout her journey.

Over seven years, Jess became a media figure in Australia, and a major proponent of "natural health". She was young, likable and media-savvy.

It started out as a personal journal online and attracted a worldwide family craving this information, she told Fairfax of her blog following.

Jess had built a wellness empire.

The Superiority Of Alternative Medicine: The Life Of A Hotel Doctor | By Mike Oppenheim Hospitality Net – Hospitality Net

Posted: April 27, 2021 at 6:07 am

At the Ramada, I cared for a lady whose eyes were red and itchy. She had no allergies, and I saw no evidence of an infection. I suspected something was irritating them, and she had been using several over-the-counter eye-drops. Drops themselves can irritate eyes, especially with persistent use, so I told her to stop.

No eye drops for an eye problem?.... She looked uneasy at this suggestion, so I left a bottle of antibiotic drops but told her to call in two days if she still felt bad and wanted to use them. This is another occasion why so many patients prefer alternative medical practitioners (herbalists, nutritionists, acupuncturists). It's rare that an alternative healer tells a patient: "There's no treatment for this; it'll go away." There's always a treatment.

In his regular column "The Life of a Hotel Doctor", Mike Oppenheim shares remarkable stories around visiting hotel guests as a doctor. When he began as a hotel doctor during the 1980s, only luxury hotels had a house doctor, usually a local practitioner who did it as a sideline. Nowadays, in a large city even the lowliest motel receives blandishments from a dozen individuals plus several agencies that send moonlighting doctors if they can find one.

Balancing Integrative and Conventional Approaches to Dermatologic Care – MD Magazine

Posted: at 6:07 am

Integrative dermatology certainly has a place in the optimizing of care. However, some patients may desire to use only alternative treatments and distance themselves from the more conventional and pharmacologic medications. How the dermatologist responds can be crucial, not only for the desired treatment outcomes, but for their relationship with the patient.

In this second and final part of an interview with HCPLive, Peter Lio, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology & Pediatrics, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, discussed the importance of balancing integrative approaches with conventional care. He also elaborated further on the reasons for why integrative medicine may appear to come more naturally for the field of dermatology.

HCPLive: Do you ever find yourself having conversations with patients regarding balancing conventional therapies with alternatives? I can imagine there might be some patients who are simply not looking to take a conventional route.

Lio: Honestly, I have. I find myself having that conversation every day. That conversation is very common, especially in my practice, which is sort of touted as being a place where integrative treatments happen.

Many patients come in and begin the discussion claiming they don't want any conventional medicine. And that's really tough, because it'd be like saying to a boxer, 'You can't use your right hand when you punch.'That's half of your game here. So, we do need to use both.

Sometimes I'll start patients on a very gentle approach, and I'll frame it as doing all of the gentler, more integrative approaches first. And then, as a rescue, if they're not doing great in the next weeks or months, we would then use some of the conventional therapies.

Patients would then say, 'Okay, I really like that, I'm on board.'

Whereas, if you say, 'We'll use this convetional therapy, and if you're better, we could try the namby pamby stuff that may not work,'that could ruffle the patient's feathers a bit.

So, if you spin it the other way, I think you can actually meet them halfway. Again, I think it actually can be a viable approach for many patients, too. We can reduce our reliance on more powerful medicines, but use them when we need them.

You mentioned before that you feel integrative approaches come naturally in dermatology. Certainly, in some ways, dermatology can be seen as a much more integrative fieldversus, say, cardiology or rheumatology. Why do you think that is?

I'd like to think it's because the skin is right there. Everybody gets to see their skin, everybody likes to try things.

There is an ancient history of people trying stuff on their skin, from poultices, to different dressings, to different oils. And it's one of those fields where you have to be pretty comfortable with pretty much everybody being the expert.

When I walk into a room, everyone tells me, 'My cousin is really good at skin stuff.' And it turns out that she has a YouTube channel and makes her own home concoctions and there's nothing wrong with that. But that's a little bit different than being a board-certified dermatologist. I mean, everyone has an opinion.

I often say, the antithesis of dermatology is ophthalmology. If something's wrong with your eye, nobody's messing with it. We would just say go see the eye doctor, and don't put anything in your eye.So, these kinds of diametrically opposed systems are fascinating.

As for hepatology, people can't access their liver, they don't know what's going on with it. So, it becomes this vague concept, whereas the skin is right there.

- The study shows this Neem Formulation in a double-blind trial successfully indicated 55% efficacy in prevention of Covid-19

FARIDABAD, India, April 27, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Faridabad and Nisarga Biotech Pvt. Ltd today announced the final data from a pilot, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial studying prophylactic activity of a proprietary, patent-pending, Neem-leaf extract (Azadirachta Indica A. Juss) of Nisarga Biotech in healthcare personnel and relatives in daily contact with COVID-19 patients. The study was a planned collaboration of ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Faridabad & All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, and was sponsored by Nisarga Biotech Pvt. Ltd, Satara, MS.

The study was conducted in 190 participants of aged 18-60 years at ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Faridabad, between August to December 2020 under the Principal Investigator Prof. (Dr.) Tanuja Nesari, MD, PhD, Director, AIIA & Co Investigator Dr. A. K Pandey ESIC Medical College & Hospital, Faridabad. The study was approved by the Institutional Ethics Committee and registered at Clinical Trial Registry of India (CTRI) and was conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice guidelines and according to all applicable local regulatory and ethical requirements.

Results demonstrated the probability of COVID-19 infection in participants receiving Neem capsules 50 mg twice a day for 28-days was reduced to less than half (a relative risk of 0.45) that of participants receiving the placebo, with the effectiveness of Neem capsules being around 55%. Biomarkers and Quality of life (QOL) remained stable in both groups.

Explaining the significance of the results, Dr. Anil Kumar Pandey, MD, Registrar, ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Faridabad, said, "Ayurveda has immense contribution in prophylaxis of various diseases. These study findings are a leap forward for prophylaxis against the COVID 19 specially when there is no specific treatment available for treatment of Covid-19 infection. I am sure it will work great as a preventive as well as additional protection even during the two doses of vaccination where chances of infection are there. Safety is another critical component for prophylactic measures, and we are encouraged to see that the Neem formulation studied in this study has a better and acceptable safety profile."

"Despite a number of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines gaining marketing authorization, COVID-19 continues to spread, and the majority of Indian population still need effective prophylactic treatment. We are extremely pleased with the outcome of this trial which provides early indications of the potential role of a proprietary, neem-leaf extract from Nisarga Biotech for the prophylaxis of COVID-19," said Dr. Asim Das, Dean, ESIC Medical College and Hospital.

Girish Soman, Founder and CEO of Nisarga Biotech Pvt. Ltd said, "Nisarga is the first manufacturer to conduct a double-blind placebo-controlled trial for prevention of Covid 19 with comparable efficacy to Vaccines. Our Neem formulation has proven to be an effective antiviral in preventive use against COVID-19 with a preventive efficacy rate of 55%. With the second wave hitting the country, our neem formulation is a great alternative for prevention of COVID-19 till the vaccines are widely and easily available in the country."

The study results have been published in PubMed indexed, peer reviewed journal "Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine" one of the oldest professional medical journals that covers holistic, natural and alternative medical treatments, in USA and is available online at https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33891569/ More information on this clinical study can be found at Clinical Trial Registry of India (CTRI).http://ctri.nic.in. The 7 Incredible Evidence-Based Health Benefits of Dates – The Beet

Dates, the sweet little jewels that grow on date palms in many desert and tropical areas, are packed full of important nutrients and make a great natural sweetener in recipes.

Dates have long been used in traditional and alternative medicines, as well as in religious traditions, and have a special significance for Muslims. Date palms are mentioned more than any other fruit-bearing plant in the Qur'an, and eating dates in the morning is believed to provide protection against poison and magic, according to Mariam Metwally, Accredited Practicing Dietician (APD).

Eating dates during Ramadan, the religious month (which started on April 12th and ends on May 12th in the US this year) has become a worldwide tradition, especially at the time of breaking the daily fast after sundown, sincedates are quick to raise blood sugar and restore energy levels. Dates are also a healthy source of nutrients, according to the latest research, which indicates that they provide healthy fiber and antioxidants and may even help protect against certain cancers.

Dates are high in minerals such as Magnesium (64.2 mg/100g), zinc (0.5 mg/100g), Iron (0.36.03 mg/100g) which are responsible for a number of body functions like immunity, digestion, and metabolism. They are also high in vitamins like B1 and B6, and when fresh, high in vitamin C. These are all essential nutrients that your body needs daily. This is particularly useful for those fasting as fasting may limit the potential to consume these vital micronutrients, in part due to the reduced hours of eating and also culturally, more indulgent meals enjoyed during this time, says Metwally.

Dates have just under 7g of fiber per 100g, making them great for digestion and maintaining regular bowel movements, which prevents constipation. Metwally adds that this is an added bonus for the month of Ramadan where constipation is a common concern. Eating fiber also prevents blood sugar from spiking by slowing digestion- making them fruits with a low glycemic index. This may be helpful for people living with diabetes when consuming dates in moderation as part of a balanced diet.

Dates are full of cell-protecting antioxidants, higher than other dried fruits. These antioxidants such as carotenoids, selenium, and flavonoids, are useful in preventing a number of diseases, cancers, chronic illness and may even improve fertility. For example, Phenolic Acid is known to be an anti-inflammatory compound. Phenolic acid is suggested to be useful in cancer prevention and heart disease.

Dates have been eaten for easing childbirth for centuries, as mentioned above. A 2017 study found that eating dates in late-term pregnancy aided cervical dilation reducing the need for induced labor and decreasing the duration of labor. They are also a convenient energy source for women to consume during labor to replenish energy stores.

Eating dates regularly has been found to reduce inflammatory compounds like IL-6 (in rodent studies) which causes degenerative function in the brain. This means that eating dates has the potential to prevent things like Alzheimer's disease, although more research is needed.

Eating dates have long been believed to be helpful in cancer treatment in traditional Egyptian medicine. While research is still developing, a 2019 study using Ajwa dates, conducted tests on prostate cancer cells. They were treated with a date extract (ethyl acetate fractions) and cell activity was monitored. The extract showed strong inhibitory signs on the cancer cells, a promising result for prostate cancer treatment. The study concluded that the ethyl acetate fractions from Ajwa dates may have therapeutic properties for prostate cancer.

One of the best things about dates is how many ways you can use them. They have the convenience of being ready to eat whole and easy to carry and store. Their caramel-like flavor is also a compatible flavor with so many foods. Many eat them stuffed with nuts - adding to their health benefits, while others use them in smoothies, or as a refined-sugar alternative in baked goods, sauces, and oatmeal.
