The city of Gonzales recently received a $10,000 check from the Baton Rouge State Fair Foundations Worthy Cause Grant, on behalf of Leadership Ascensions Team of Dreams.

Greg Edwards, chairman of the Baton Rouge State Fair Foundation, said the Board believes the extraordinary work done by Leadership Ascension to build the field and all that it represents is exactly the kind of initiative that we want to support and foster, and when we learned that the project needed $10,000 to finish the current phase of the ball park, we jumped in without hesitation and are humbled to be a part of it.

City officials; members of the Team of Dreams and League Volunteers; and representatives from the Greater Baton Rouge Fair and Baton Rouge State Fair Foundation board were in attendance for the presentation of the grant. Mayor Barney Arceneaux thanked the fair and foundation for selecting to support this incredible opportunity for the children of not just Gonzales, Ascension and surrounding areas.

The Field of Dreams is on Irma Boulevard in Gonzales. This award will help with the construction of restroom facilities and allow the Team of Dreams Ascension League to begin play this spring, a new release said.

Registration for Team of Dreams Ascension is open. The all-abilities baseball league will serve the youth and young adults of Ascension parish and surrounding areas. The league is for anyone who uses a wheelchair, with physical disabilities or with intellectual disabilities, and is meant for young and adult athletes.

City of Gonzales Recreation Director Lance Kohan encourages not only players but members of the community that want to get involved to volunteer.

Anyone interested in participating, volunteering or who would like more information can contact Kohan at (225) 354-6243 or email Lance@gonzalesla.com or register atwww.GonzalesLA.com.
