Former Raiders receiver Henry Ruggs III is charged after fatal Las Vegas car crash – NPR

Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III makes an initial appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court in Las Vegas, Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021. Ruggs is facing charges relating to a fiery vehicle crash in Las Vegas that left a woman dead and Ruggs and his female passenger injured.
The former Las Vegas Raider wide receiver Henry Ruggs III has been formally charged with four felonies and a misdemeanor stemming from a car crash last week that left a 23-year-old woman dead.
Prosecutors in Las Vegas say that Ruggs had a blood-alcohol content that was twice Nevada's legal limit when he slammed into Tina O. Tintor at 156 mph. Tintor was killed in the crash, as was her dog. Kiara Je'nai Kilgo-Washington, Ruggs' girlfriend, was in the car with him and experienced a serious arm injury requiring surgery.
On Wednesday, prosecutors charged Ruggs with two counts of driving under the influence causing death or substantial harm and two counts of reckless driving. Ruggs, 22, has also been charged with a misdemeanor for the possession of a gun under the influence of alcohol.
Steve Wolfson, the Clark County District Attorney, said the charges could result in as much as 50 years in prison for Ruggs.
Ruggs was not in court for the hearing. His attorney, David Chesnoff, was not immediately available to respond to a request for comment from NPR. But speaking to reporters after the hearing he said it was important to not "prejudge" the case.
"I have been doing this for 40 years, and I can tell each and every one of you that I have had multiple experiences where the facts that were presented at the outset of the case turned out not to be the facts," Chesnoff said.
The collision occurred on Nov. 2 when police received reports at 3:39 a.m. local time of a crash involving a Chevrolet Corvette and the Toyota Rav4 that Tintor was traveling in. When they arrived on the scene, the Toyota was on fire. First responders found Tintor dead inside the car.
Ruggs was taken to a nearby hospital for "non-life threatening injuries." After posting a $150,000 bail, he was placed on house arrest, where he is required to abstain from drugs and alcohol and is prohibited from driving under his bail conditions, according to court records.
The former first-round draft pick out of the University of Alabama has also been released by the Raiders.

Las Vegas couple steals more than $300k by collecting dead person’s retirement payments for nearly 12 years – KLAS – 8 News Now
Posted: at 6:16 pm
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) A husband and wife from Las Vegas have been sentenced to nearly 2-years in prison after assuming the identity of a deceased person and stealing more than $300,000 in retirement payments.
According to the U.S. Attorneys office, 53-year-old Rodolfo Segovia and his wife 48-year-old Jennifer Segovia assumed the identity of the deceased person for nearly 12 years.
Court documents state that the U.S. Office of Personnel management deposited annuity payments into a former federal employees bank account because it was not notified of the persons death.
The couple stole at least $308,391.72 by redirecting the annuity payments of the deceased person into their own accounts from 2005 to 2017.
Rodolfo and Jennifer each pleaded guilty to one count of theft of government money or property. Both were sentenced to 21 months in prison.
In addition to the term of imprisonment, the judge sentenced the Segovias to three years each of supervised release.

Las Vegas visionary saves lives with drone developed in wake of 1 October – FOX5 Las Vegas
Posted: at 6:16 pm
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) --After witnessing tragedy at a young age, one Las Vegas man's dreams are taking flight.
Fueled by a mission to save lives, the drone technology he engineered is currently assisting first responders across the world.
Imagine a device that could break through windows and start a dialogue with armed suspects so that police don't have to send a person inside to do it: that is one of the many visions behind Brinc Drones, a growing startup based in Nevada, with 21-year-old Las Vegas native Blake Resnick at the helm.
"Putting eyes and ears in places that are too dangerous to send a person," said Resnick, founder and CEO of Brinc Drones.
The 10-month-old companyjust raised a $25 million series in A-round funding.
Resnick said Brinc's state-of-the-art drone technology was inspired by 1 October, the deadliest mass shooting in modern history at the Route 91 Harvest musical festival in Las Vegas in 2017.
"In an event like that, time really matters," said Resnick. "So the whole thought was like, man, if you could build a technology that could give like great situational awareness, and knowledge about what's actually going on in seconds rather than an hour, that could save a lot of lives."
Resnick grew up in Summerlin in Las Vegas, and was a teen when he watched nearly 60 people die at the hands of a lone shooter. "I, unfortunately, knew a lot of people who were there, friends and family," he said.
That's when his partnership with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department was born.
"I cold-called the SWAT team," he said. "I went online and looked up their number, literally cold-called them. I was probably 17 or 18 at the time. I'm surprised they took me seriously, but they did, and we ended up just grabbing lunch and just kind of had a conversation."
That conversation reviewed the challenges first responders faced that tragic night and set flight to what ultimately became Brinc's first drone.
"Vegas Metro has an area command quite close to the Mandalay Bay," said Resnick. "So shot spotter systems, basically this big microphone array around the valley, would have heard the gunshots, and given like a rough GPS coordinate to where this was all happening. Already super helpful. From there, on top of that police station, the doors on one of these nests would open up. The drone would launch, and fly to that exact location, I mean, if it's that close, potentially literally in 45 seconds," he said.
He added, "It would be able to look around and identify the nature of the incident. So in that case, someone in a casino shooting down on a crowd of people, and it would have been able to give that information to first responders, so they would be able to coordinate a response a lot better, and direct assets to the right places at the right times."
To this day, Las Vegas police use the drone Resnick made specially for them.
Since then, Brinc has sold drones to close to a hundred other agencies and governments all over the world. The drone is most commonly used in barricade and hostage situations, said Resnick.
The camera mounted on their Lemur S Drone has night vision, which allows them to see inside dark spaces. Additionally, Resnick said this is the only drone in the world with a fully functional two-way audio system. The responder can dial in with their cell phone.
"This is a speaker on the bottom of the drone," said Resnick, pointing to his creation. "And these two things are microphones ... If you're able to establish communications between a crisis negotiator and the suspect, the overwhelming majority of the time, it ends peacefully."
Separately, most drones rely on GPS to determine their location. But Resnick recognized a flaw with that technology.
"The problem is you fly underground, or frankly, even under a roof, you lose your GPS signal," he said. "Our answer to that has largely been lidar systems.
It's these lidar systems that appealed to officials in Florida, who last June responded to the condominium collapse in Surfside and asked for Resnick's help.
"I got a call from the SWAT commander in Miami," he said.
Within hours, he and the Brinc team were on a plane to Florida to execute building inspection missions in the rubble.
"Really it was about determining, like, is this 14-story building going to fall on 100 first responders looking for survivors," said Resnick.
The drone is designed for durability in disaster situations like Surfside's condo collapse.
"If it's on its back, tools spin up in the opposite direction of what they normally do, and that provides enough thrust to literally flip us over," said Resnick.
He said he was proud to provide some value in Surfside's recovery, and hopes his latest prototype will someday replace the need for first responders' helicopters in various scenarios.
"Find ... every car with an abducted child in it from an Amber Alert, and find every lost hiker, and bring global emergency response times down to seconds," said Resnick.
His broader vision, he said, is to put drones in nests on top of every police and fire station in the world; and build a giant interconnected grid of them, integrated with 911 dispatch systems.
But with great power comes great responsibility.
"There are countries that we would not sell this technology to," said Resnick.
It's something Resnick thinks about often. "It's kind of up to us to develop the technology in the right way, and with the right safeguards, and sell to the right customers, so that this technology ends up benefiting the world."
He said drones likely will not replace the need for real, human responders.
"We think that this is a part of the future of public safety, it's not the whole thing. Our goal isn't to build 'Robocop,' it's to build technology that saves people's lives," said Resnick.
He said he does not believe his technology should be equipped with weapons, either. "All of our current efforts started with October 1. The purpose of Brinc is to save lives with technology, not take them," he said.
The UNLV alum worked briefly at McLaren, Tesla and DJI, all experiences he calls highly educational. He also worked with the Department of Homeland Security. Still, he considers himself largely self-taught.
"I'd say, in many ways, YouTube was my greatest teacher," said Resnick.
His advice for future STEM visionaries? Don't give up.
"None of it's easy, it's excruciatingly difficult actually. But it is amazing how much you can accomplish if you just don't give up and continue pushing towards a goal for multiple years," he said.
He aims to keep his focus set on that long-term mission of saving lives.
"Why can't these types of aircraft like also carry Narcan? You know, life-saving drug for overdoses. So if you do get a 911 call in for an OD, you deliver the drug that will save that person's life in 45 seconds? I think that's the promise of this technology. I think it's going to change public safety, period: police, fire, emergency, medical, all of it."
Resnick is working on getting aerospace regulation adjusted to allow more flight paths for the technology.
In the next six months, he hopes to more than double his staff size to 120 people.
They're currently in the process of opening an additional 20,000 square foot office in Seattle, but still plan to keep their office in Las Vegas, off the 215 and Decatur Boulevard, where all the drones are made.

Football icon Terry Bradshaw takes the stage in Las Vegas – Lasvegasmagazine
Posted: at 6:16 pm
Millions of football fans know and love Terry Bradshaw from his pregame antics on Sunday mornings, and he carries that same infectious spirit into his show on the Strip, The Terry Bradshaw Show. Its a combination of songs and storytelling, with an audience Q&A.
Over 70 incredibly entertaining minutes, Bradshaw, with the help of a live band and backup singers Anne Martinez and Lorena Peril (who both also perform in Fantasy on the same stage), makes it clear that football is only one of his loves. At his heart, he wants to entertain people. So yes, youll get lots of football stories, and yes, youll hear a lot about how football was better in the good old days. But youll also hear a singing voice that has delivered a Billboard hit in 1976 with Lonesome. Bradshaw clearly loves country, but he also belts out some great blues and Everly Brothers classics.
The Q&A is reason enough to buy a ticket; Bradshaw is very quick on his feet, and ready to take any question that comes his way. He may shock you with his candor, but thats who Bradshaw is.

Vegas pick’em: NFL Week 10 winners against the spread – Las Vegas Sun

ASSOCIATED PRESS
Jacksonville Jaguars outside linebacker Josh Allen (41) celebrates after recovering a fumble on a sack of Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (17) during the second half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021, in Jacksonville,Fla.

So much for the whole talking point about the gap between the worst teams and the best teams in the NFL having never been wider.
That was a narrative over the last few weeks as the season neared its midway point without a single big upset. But for the first time in nearly 11 months since the winless Jets shocked the Rams in Week 16 last year an underdog of more than two touchdowns prevailed in Week 9.
The Jacksonville Jaguars beat the Buffalo Bills 9-6 as 14.5-point underdogs to resurrect the any given Sunday mantra. As if that wasnt enough, the Broncos clobbered the Cowboys 30-16 while getting 10 points on the spread for a pair of double-digit underdogs winning outright on the same day.
It was quite the change from just two weeks prior, as before the Jets Week 8 upset of the Bengals, there hadnt been an underdog of more than 7 points emerge victorious all season.
Will the craziness continue in Week 10? Lets try to find out while building on the last weeks success of the plays (3-1) and trying to bounce back from a poor overall performance (6-8) to bring the season record picking every game against the spread to 69-66-1.
Read below for picks on every Week 9 game. Picks are separated into three confidence categories and listed in rough order of confidence. Lines are the best currently available in Las Vegas on the chosen side.
Plays (27-19)
Seattle Seahawks +3.5 at Green Bay Packers The rest of the Seahawks team has improved in the absence of quarterback Russell Wilson, whos now expected to return, while theres still uncertainty regarding the status of Packers counterpart Aaron Rodgers. Best-case scenario, Rodgers gets cleared Saturday and returns with no practice. That made Seahawks +6 earlier in the week one of the best bets of the year, and though that number is long gone, theyre still playable to +3.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers -9.5 at Washington Football Team Last years playoff game between these two teams featured a closing number of Tampa Bay -10, which felt fair considering the 30-22 final score. The Buccaneers have been better this year than they were entering the playoffs last year, and the Football Team has been worse, so theres no reason the line should be even a half-point lower.
New Orleans Saints +3 at Tennessee Titans The Saints continue to have a statistical profile they rank in the NFLs top 10 by both Football Outsiders DVOA and net EPA (expected points added) per play that's much better than conventionalwisdom dictates. The Titans continue to have a statistical profile ranking just outside the top 10 in both aforementioned measures that's much worse than conventional wisdom dictates.
San Francisco 49ers +4 vs. Los Angeles Rams Making one last attempt to buy low on the 49ers, which have deserved better results than the 3-5 record theyve compiled this season. San Francisco is at 5.2 expected wins based on Football Outsiders efficiency metrics despite facing one of the toughest schedules in the league so far.
Leans (22-25)
Buffalo Bills -11.5 at New York Jets The Bills offense is innately a high-variance unit, largely given quarterback Josh Allens intermittent accuracy issues, so resist the urge to put too much into the loss to the Jaguars. It would be no surprise if Allen bounces back a week later by being on point with his deep ball and the Bills light up the scoreboard against a Jets defense ranked dead-last in the league by DVOA.
Dallas Cowboys -9 vs. Atlanta Falcons Atlanta is 4-2 in games decided by a touchdown or less, including 3-1 in games decided by less than six points, meaning a lot of good fortune has gone its way to stay in the wild-card race. The Falcons are still one of the weaker teams in the league, and despite the Cowboys ugly 30-16 loss to the Broncos as 10-point favorites, theyre one of the best.
Las Vegas Raiders +3 vs. Kansas City Chiefs Anything below 3 and Kansas City -2.5 is the more widely available price would relegate this to a guess. The Chiefs, specifically their offense, may yet wake up and rediscover their greatness, but over the last month, theres no disputing that the Raiders have been the more efficient and even more explosive team.
Guesses (20-22-1)
Denver Broncos -2.5 vs. Philadelphia Eagles This spread makes perfect sense based solely on both teams efficiencies so far, but Denver may still deserve a little extra boost for home-field advantage at elevation. The pick is much trickier at -3, so it would be wise to grab one of the couple remaining -2.5s while theyre available.
Baltimore Ravens -7.5 at Miami Dolphins The number looks exactly right, but its hard not to give the Ravens the benefit of the doubt in a plus matchup. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson threw for 324 yards and five touchdowns in a 59-10 win in his only career meeting against the Dolphins two years ago, and the home teams defense, particularly in the secondary, isnt all that different now.
Jacksonville Jaguars +10.5 at Indianapolis Colts The lookahead line on this game was an identical Indianapolis -10.5, meaning Jacksonville got no positive adjustment for its upset of the Bills. The victory may have merited at least a half-point.
Carolina Panthers +10.5 at Arizona Cardinals Last weeks line moved as much as 8.5 points away from the Cardinals as it became apparent that Colt McCoy would start at quarterback for the injured Kyler Murray. A lot went Arizonas way to ensure a 31-17 victory over San Francisco including recovering all three of the games fumbles. The fact that theres still little clarity on Murray's status and the line is moving in Arizonas favor this week might be an overreaction to a one-game sample.
New England Patriots -1.5 vs. Cleveland Browns This line opened at New England -2.5, and though a one-point move to -1.5 is usually insignificant, the initial price was more accurate in this situation. Clevelands offense has struggled against the top defenses its faced namely Arizona and Pittsburgh and New England might have the best one its seen so far this season.
Pittsburgh Steelers -8.5 vs. Detroit Lions Pittsburgh had an awful performance on Monday Night Football, getting outgained by 3 yards per play in a controversial 29-27 win over Chicago as 7-point favorites, but thats making for a value price this week. If the Steelers maintained their 10-point fourth quarter and cruised to a victory, this number would likely be at 10.
Los Angeles Chargers -3 vs. Minnesota Vikings Theres not a single team-strength advanced metric that would paint the Chargers as a better team than the Vikings, but theres also no quantifying the extent of the coaching edge between Brandon Staley and Mike Zimmer. The Vikings are also traveling to the west coast as part of back-to-back road games, a situation where NFL teams traditionally struggle.

Starlight on 66 treats the senses at Resorts World Las Vegas – Las Vegas Weekly

Over the past 20 years, the Las Vegas skyline has advanced from kinda weird to kinda gorgeous. The Wynns glass towers, CityCenter and the High Roller changed what was fundamentally a city of trifurcated rectangles and one observation tower into a varied assortment of shapes, textures and colors as fanciful as anything built with Lego.
Thats the Las Vegas that Starlight on 66Resorts Worlds 66th-floor loungeserves up in cinematic fashion, and they serve it alongside excellent cocktails and small plates.
Soon after youre seated, youre served a complimentary dish of house-made truffle and pecorino potato chips and sweet-spicy mixed nuts with sesamean umami-rich prelude that fills you with an immediate want of cocktails. Try the Twilight ($25), a silken mix of No. 3 London Dry Gin, Crme de Violette, Chambord, lemon, egg white and simple syrup. If you want something dessert-like to chase that truffle taste, try the Banana Bread ($25)Howler Head Banana Bourbon, coconut syrup and almond milk.
Or, if this observation lounge has you feeling extra-observational, get an Old Fashioned mixed at tableside. Starlight offers several variations on the theme, but the New FashionedJohnny Walker Black Label, Luxardo, house made orange simple syrup and Angostura aromatic bitterscaught my eye first. They also offer a wide-ranging wine list and a selection of champagnes.
The small-plates menu offers plenty of savory points of entry, from garlicky brown butter lobster rolls ($25) served in toasted brioche; Wagyu beef sliders ($21) with baby gem lettuce, caramelized onions, aged cheddar, tomato and remoulade; or blackened watermelon with goat cheese cream, cucumber relish and a red wine reduction.
Whether you end your visit with yuzu cheesecake ($13) or simply by admiring the Andy Warhol portrait of Lady Diana Spencer that adorns the entryway, be sure to step out to the patio and admire how far weve come. Starlight on 66 puts two decades of Valley growth into a stunning frame.

Jaden and Amauri Hardy return to Las Vegas as teammates – Las Vegas Review-Journal
Posted: at 6:16 pm
Ramsey Hardy would go to both of his sons basketball games when they played the same night. Amauris at UNLVs Thomas &Mack Center. Jadens at Coronado. Two gyms. One night. Didnt matter. He wouldnt miss either one.
But on Wednesday night, he could finally watch both of them play at one venue: Mandalay Bays Michelob Ultra Arena.
As teammates. As professionals.
As a parent, you dream of it. Its a blessing, the eldest Hardy said. There couldnt have been a better spot.
The Hardy brothers came home. Now as guards for G League Ignite, a second-year program based in Walnut Creek, California, designed as a developmental alternative for top pro prospects like Jaden. He committed to G League Ignite in May, bypassing the conventional college path as one of the top prospects in the 2022 NBA draft.
Amauri in September became the first college player to sign with Ignite after concluding his amateur career at Oregon.
The team is playing eight de facto home games in Las Vegas this season because of the Hardys. Ignite fell 115-101 to the Agua Caliente Clippers Tuesday night in its local debut.
Jaden had 24 points, seven rebounds and four steals, Amauri 13 points and six rebounds. Ramsey watched with pride.
They have each other to talk to. To look back and talk about different situations and different things, Ramsey said. And to build with each other and to be able to train with each other.
Amauri and Jaden were four grades apart, thereby limiting their opportunities to play organized basketball together. Amauri emerged in their native Detroit as a Division I prospect. Jaden hoped to follow suit and emulate his older brother along the way.
They played on the same summer league team before Amauris senior year of high school. But they wouldnt have the opportunity to be teammates again, save for informal settings like pickup games.
All the while, Amauri played at UNLV from 2017 until 2020, blossoming into an All-Mountain West guard before concluding college with one final year at Oregon. Jaden played at Coronado, emerging as the top guard prospect in the graduating class of 2021 before signing with Ignite.
Amauri learned within a few weeks of Jadens commitment that he, too, would have the opportunity to play with Ignite, should he so desire. The developmental aspect appealed to the elder Hardy, but so too did the opportunity to finally play alongside his younger brother.
Its really like a two for one, especially for my family, Amauri said. I can help him, being that Ive played and have had experience playing basketball especially in college. Being a brother, its different from hearing from a coach or a teammate. I can talk to him and give him a different perspective. He trusts my expertisehelping him see the game from a different lens.
The youngest Hardy said playing with his older brother isnt necessarily different, per se. Sure, theyre teammates now. But theyve always bonded over basketball and sought to push and challenge one another.
That said, Jaden realizes there is finality to the experience.
I want to cherish this time with him. In a couple months, Im probably not going to be with him, Jaden said. So (Im) just enjoying this time, taking it day by day. Its time were not going to be able to get back.
