Some countries are starting to welcome travelers who have received both doses of a Covid-19 vaccine. Currently, its a small list of countries accepting vaccinated travelers, but the list will probably continue to grow in the upcoming months, according to a report by Simple Flying, an aviation news website.

Cyprus: This Mediterranean country will be open for vaccinated travelers (both doses of a Covid-19 vaccine) starting in May.

Estonia: This countrys 10-day isolation policy doesnt apply to travelers who have had the Covid-19 vaccination.

Georgia: As of February, vaccinated travelers from any other country can enter Georgia without needing to self-isolate.

Iceland: As of March 18th, Iceland Tourism states that travelers who have been fully vaccinated will be allowed to travel to Iceland and wont need to be tested or do self-quarantine.

Greece: Sofia Zacharaki, Greeces deputy minister of tourism, said that travelers who have a vaccination certificate and those who have recovered from Covid are able to come to Greece.

Lebanon: Travelers who show proof of vaccination can avoid quarantine when arriving in Lebanon. But a negative PCR test taken within 96 hours (before their flight) must be presented.

Panama: Panamas media has reported that vaccinated travelers can skip a test upon arrival, according to Luis Francisco Sucre, minister of health. However, Panamas official tourism site doesnt make mention of vaccinated travelers being able to skip a test upon arrival.

Poland: Since December 28th, travelers who have been vaccinated are exempted from the countrys required quarantine. Travelers must show a certificate confirming their Covid vaccinations.

Portugal: Portugals tourism website states that the country is open to arrivals from several countries. But travelers arriving to the Azores and Madeira Islands can present a vaccination certificate to avoid needing to quarantine or take a Covid test.

Romania: In late January, Romania said that those who have been fully vaccinated dont need to quarantine when arriving. But the National Committee for Emergency Situations of Romania added that travelers need to wait at least 10 days from the administration of the second dose until arriving in Romania.

Seychelles: Travelers who have received their full vaccinations can arrive 14 days after the second dose. The country also requires a pre-departure test fewer than 72 hours old.

A new study has found that heartbeats actually harmonize during this religious ritual – Forward

Posted: at 3:05 am

Two anthropologists have discovered that the heartbeats of those who practice Sufism, a mystical dimension of the Islamic faith, beat in tandem during a communal ritual in which all of the congregants join in deep meditation or an ecstatic trance. Rabbis and cantors told the Forward they were not surprised.

Anyone who has been at a really good worship service knows the power of kinetic worship services, said Rabbi Lawrence A. Hoffman, a professor at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. There have been prior reports of such things. For instance, kids who play in a playground will get into sync with one another. There are reports that if you videotaped them, you would see they eventually hopped or skipped in sync with one another. Human beings are aware of the possibility of being in sync.

In fact, according to Cantor Matthew Austerklein, all musicians of any religion try to achieve a sense of oneness, and there is no greater oneness than singing with other people. And the nigun [melody] is a primary vehicle. I was part of a Mincha service at the Jewish Theological Seminary where everyone began with a nigun to set the mood for prayer. One of the things that singing a nigun teaches is that we can be sensitized to each other through music.

Asked about the study that found heartbeats of participants sync during meditation or an ecstatic trance, Austerklein, who serves as cantor of Beth El Congregation in Akron, Ohio, replied, Im not surprised at all by that. One of the things that nigun singing teaches is that we can be sensitized to each other through music. We feel closer to people around us and with God when we sing with other people.

A man praying around a fire.

The two researchers who conducted the study, Dimitris Xygalatas and Christopher Manoharan, are anthropologists at the University of Connecticut. They went to Istanbul, Turkey, and affixed heart monitors under the clothing of 20 congregants. They then watched as the worshippers performed the largest and most important Sufi ritual, the dhikr (remembrance), which is often referred to by Sufis as the way to the heart.

Their hearts really did beat as one, Manoharan said. The heart is variable. It has a range of normal heartbeats and, within seconds, you can align it with another person. You can place your hand on a bulb when it lights at a particular time to a rhythm or a vibration or a sound. If you have a group of people all doing it, your heartbeats will line up in short order; its a form of biofeedback.

But congregants attending religious services over Zoom do not get into sync with other congregants who are also participating over Zoom, Austerklein pointed out.

Its just not the same, he said.

Manoharan agreed, saying: When you are shoulder-to-shoulder [with other congregants] there is a heartbeat and spiritual sensitivity it gives you more of a connection with your neighbor. If you are uttering the same chant and feeling your body resonate, the resonance chambers inside your chest mesh with those of others.

At Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, the students are taught that it is important to develop a regular rhythm of the service to get them in sync, Hoffman pointed out.

Thus, if in the middle of a prayer service someone gets up and makes an announcement or introduces all of the prayers with an explanation of each one, you have learned a lot when the service has finished but you do not feel the satisfaction of having prayed, he said.

Hoffman said he has learned that at conferences that bring together people from many different synagogues it is best to begin a service with music, otherwise the person leading will have trouble getting everyone into sync. If they start with 10 minutes of singing, everything will then go smoothly. Similarly, camps have song leaders because once they get kids from all over to sing together, they have a community. I would not be surprised if all of their hearts then beat together.

TeamLab and TikTok team up for immersive sauna exhibition in Tokyo – The Japan Times

Posted: at 3:05 am

Its the hottest new exhibition in town: an immersive digital art experience filled with futuristic light installations that doubles up as a sauna complex.

The sweaty but spectacular art show in Tokyo, which opened Monday, allows visitors to experience art in their finest mental state.

People must wear swimsuits but can put indoor clothing on top to enter the exhibition, which contains seven saunas of various temperatures lit up atmospherically in bold colors from magenta to deep green.

After a few minutes relaxing in the heat followed by a cold shower to pique the senses they can wander through different rooms to marvel at the artworks in a sauna trance.

Exhibits include fluttering butterfly illuminations, solidified light crystals, and a large red sphere that radiates through the darkness.

Some of the viewing spaces also feature streams of cold water or cooling mist to create a physical, as well as esoteric, impression.

The exhibition, called Reconnect: Art with Rinkan Sauna, is the latest offering from the Japanese art collective teamLab, which collaborated with video app TikTok on the project.

Internationally renowned for their innovative digital art, teamLabs work combines projections, sound and carefully designed spaces to create otherworldly experiences.

By taking alternating hot and cold baths, visitors open their minds, experience an ever-expanding physical sensation and become one with the art, the group said.

But an instruction sheet provided at a preview event acknowledged that for some visitors, it could all get too much warning them not to overdo it in the sauna rooms and to make sure to drink water frequently.

Increasing the sweat factor, visitors are also required to wear a mask inside the exhibition, which will run until August 31.

At the new teamLab and TikTok exhibition, visitors can enjoy the steam of a sauna, before enjoying the art in a sauna trance. | AFP-JIJI

We’re Getting Through This: Dopapod Returns To The Stage For First Night At The Ardmore [Photos/Full Video] – Live for Live Music

Posted: at 3:05 am

Dopapod opened a two-night run at the Ardmore Music Hall on Friday night, marking their first show in front of a live audience since March 7th, 2020 at the now-shuttered Rex Theater in Pittsburgh, PA. Presented in partnership with Live For Live Music, the two-night run, live-streamed run was billed as Were Gonna Get Through This. Now, over a year since the pandemic began, its finally starting to feel like we can adopt that phrase in the present tenseor even the past tense. While we may not be quite there yet, these showsalready rescheduled once due to the early winter COVID spikeare perhaps indicative of a larger-scale recovery for the concert industry.

As Keyboardist Eli Winderman explained of the shows when they were initially announced, We didnt know the next time we would see each other again back in March when we had to abruptly leave tour and head home. We thought it was going to be just a few months and wed be back to normal. Obviously, that didnt happen but now here we are announcing our first shows since the start of the pandemic and to say were excited is an extreme understatement. We wanted to call the event Were gonna get through this because we want to help all our fans stay positive and optimistic to get through the rest of this time where we cant play shows like we used to. All things must pass as will this pandemic!

The past year has been a story of widespread suffering sprinkled with silver linings and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. This show fell under the latter category. Tickets for this Ardmore run were not sold in the conventional sense; instead, Dopapod offered fans the chance to win a pair of Golden Tickets through raffles and silent auctions. Accustomed to hosting capacity crowds of 600 during normal times, only twenty (!) fans attended Friday nights show in person, seated in pairs at high-top tables, five each on the main floor and upper balcony. With perfect sight lines, dialed-in PA sound, and plenty of room to dance. When Dopapod took the stage to emphatically punctuate their involuntary 377-day live-performance break, every single one of us felt every ounce of our privilege, making Were Gonna Get Through This the understatement of the year for those who attended in person. For those not physically in the room, the livestream and Zoom dance partyprojected on a screen at front of house for the band to seeoffered a tangible connection from afar. Guitarist Rob Compas mom even made an appearance, to the audible pleasure of both the band and the tiny audience.

Every Dopapod show is a palindromic journey in a microcosmic sense, and that notion rang true last night. Releasing a years worth of pent-up energy and musical rage, Dopapod metaphorically marked their new beginning in signature fashion with a deliberate synth-driven build that would soon find liftoff in the frenzied peak of Bats in the Cave. As Eli Winderman continued to drive the band and dazzle on keyboards, Like a Ball ushered in guitarist Rob Compas first vocals of the evening. The rhythm section of Chuck Jones (bass) and Neal Fro Evans (drums) had the small but effusive crowd bumping along with the beautiful stage-right harmonies of Turn By Turn before segueing into the rave-like feels of Freight Train. Hard rocker Nuggy Jawson closed the hour-long set, Compas face-melting guitar fluidly layering with the liquid trance of Windermans synth.

Indian Grits opened the second set with a decidedly different feel, one that would have felt equally at home in the funk-driven confines of New Orleans Tipitinas as the first set would have in at underground dance party. The groovy bass and drums of Mucho kept the funk alive even as Windermans synth found space in ambient trance before Neal Fro Evans heavy bass drum woke the music up and brought the party back to speed. Bubble Brain built to a furious peak that ultimately exploded with the New Years Eve-like trimmings of lighting director Luke Strattons disco ball confetti. The funky sounds of Windermans Hohner Clavinet portended the funk that was soon to come from Grow before Compa found time and space to let his PRS guitar lead the way in Present Ghosts (Fun fact: Compa noted that the band had not rehearsed the song before pulling it out on Friday night). Trapper Keeper put an exclamation point on night one, defying musical classification and reminding us all that there are no genres, just artists.

Tune in again tonight, Saturday, March 20th, at 8:00 p.m. ET as Dopapods Were Gonna Get Through This run continues live from the Ardmore Music Hall via L4LM, Dopapod, Ardmore Music Hall, and Nugs.net Facebook pages, as well as on YouTube.

CDPR Faces Extreme Skepticism Ahead Of Cyberpunk 2077s 1.2 Patch – Forbes

Posted: at 3:03 am

Cyberpunk

Fans are gearing up for what should be Cyberpunk 2077s 1.2 patch out before the end of this week, or perhaps in the face of another delay, early April. It is once again the victim of CDPR inflating expectations, as they have long promised that it will be the biggest patch the game has seen to date, but so far the reaction from fans has been one of extreme skepticism. Well-deserved, given where we are now.

There are of course the over-promises for the base game itself, but post-launch, Cyberpunk 2077 has only received a handful of hotfixes, and its first major patch 1.1, felt like little more than a hotfix itself, and its biggest contribution was to create a new game-breaking bug.

Already fans are preparing themselves that this is probably not going to be the patch to turn the game around. We have gotten an early preview of whats coming based on a Whats New in Night City blog post, a fun little narrative exercise, but one that used 1,000 words to essentially say the following highlighted changes were coming:

There are a number of high expectations for patch 1.2, with fans hoping this is a turnaround moment for the game with enough fixes and quality of life additions to get them playing again, but more pressingly for CDPR, this is the patch they need to impress Sony enough to let Cyberpunk be sold on the PlayStation store again. You have not been able to buy Cyberpunk digitally for PS4 or PS5 since a week after launch three months ago, due to the issues the last-gen version of the game had which sparked mass refund requests. As such, until the game is fixed, truly fixed, Sony wont let it back on. It is a wild story it has been this long already, and Im not sure if many people realize thats still going on.

CDPR has said the Night City blog post was only a preview of changes, though I would expect they wanted to spotlight some of the better ones. But if those are the better ones

Ive already seen a community manager quasi-confirm other small changes like altering the mission icon for car sales on the map, a common complaint from fans. And we obviously dont know what performance upgrades and bug fixes are coming, and lord knows the game still needs plenty of those.

The roadmap

After 1.2 we really dont have a roadmap other than two vague points going forward, free DLC maybe in the first half of the year here (with no indication what that will be) and then next-gen versions of the game, which many people are waiting for, in the second half of the year. Along with various fixes and improvements during this entire time.

1.2 is a big moment for the game. Im not sure if I can call it make or break as CDPR is pushing ahead with its other plans regardless, but the game does not need another over-promise and under-deliver after so many times thats happens before. More to come.
