How Covid derailed the great hope of the Dutch far right – The Guardian

Posted: March 5, 2021 at 5:26 am

On 20 March 2019, Thierry Baudet provided Dutch television viewers with two surprises. The first was news of his landslide victory in that days senate elections. Baudets far-right Forum for Democracy (FvD) was a newcomer in parliament, holding just two seats out of 150 in the lower house. But that day, from scratch, Forum gained 12 of the senates 75 seats, putting it on a par with the governing liberal party (the VVD) led by prime minister Mark Rutte.

The second surprise was Baudets victory speech. The owl of Athena spreads her wings as evening falls, he started, and across the country, jaws dropped and drinks were spilled. The Netherlands is not a country noted for oratory. Our politicians would rather downplay their intellectual prowess than borrow from Greek mythology.

Back then, the future must have looked promising for the dynamic young leader: if he could win the Senate elections, could Baudet win the general elections in March 2021?

Most commentators thought he had a chance. For many years the far right of Dutch politics had been served by Geert Wilders PVV (Freedom party). Wilders is not known for quoting political thinkers, and tends to be coarse in his speech, for example speaking about imposing a head-rag tax on hijab-wearing women. For the better educated, socially conservative, small government-minded voter who is not a fan of immigration, voting for Wilders is not an option. The civilised right, as its often called in the Netherlands, would either continue to vote VVD or for one of the conservative Christian parties.

But Baudet seemed a palatable alternative. He served the same smrgsbord of nostalgia, nationalism and anti-immigrant xenophobia as Wilders, but he presented as a more clean-cut, decent, thoughtful figure. He had international links through his partys youth movement to Europes populist or far-right figures from Orban to Le Pen. His Jordan Peterson-style discourse appealed to young men at universities. The Dutch media immediately loved him (or loved to hate him); after Wilders arctic landscape of ideas, here now finally were some political theories for pundits to dissect.

One word, however, stuck out from that victory speech, even for Baudets supporters.Like all those other countries in the boreal world, he said, we are being demolished by the people who should have been protecting us.

It was difficult not to interpret boreal as anything but a dog whistle to the extreme right, for whom the word is code for white. Baudet Baudet has always denied he is a racist and insisted that boreal was just another way of saying northern. People seemed to give him the benefit of the doubt. Or at least his poll numbers were growing, as was membership of FvD and its youth wing. He assembled an electoral list including seasoned establishment politicians and young upcoming conservatives. The party looked like a serious contender.

Then it all fell apart first gradually, then suddenly. The slow decline was a direct result of the pandemic. Voters Baudet might have stolen from the liberal party rallied behind Rutte who, early on in the crisis, began enjoying a 75% approval rating.

Baudet questioned Ruttes increasingly strict lockdown policies as a corona dictatorship, then questioned the virus itself. Wasnt it just a little flu? Wasnt the World Health Organization trying to control the political order?

The more seasoned politicians in his party started to get anxious. Embracing conspiracy theories would lose them the ear of the civilised right.

And then it all blew up in a Death Star kind of way. In November, antisemitic remarks from the Forum youth wings WhatsApp groups were leaked to the press. Instead of investigating the claims of antisemitism, Baudet expelled the whistleblowers.

This did not sit well with others on his electoral list, and a few days later it was leaked to the press that Baudet had said that George Soros invented Covid, and that practically everyone he knew was an antisemite.

In the controversy that followed, Baudet stunned everyone by stepping down as party leader but then reversed, demanding a party referendum on his position. Flabbergasted, most of the partys remaining candidates now wanted him out altogether. It was mayhem. In one of the more media-savvy moments, they had the locks changed to the party headquarters, so Baudet couldnt come in again.

When the party leadership gave in to the referendum the more seasoned members simply quit. As did many Forum politicians in local councils and in the Senate. Of the 12 senators who won seats in the 2019 election, only two are still attached to his party.

More leaked WhatsApp conversations followed, this time of Baudet himself allegedly making racist remarks. On live TV Baudet disclosed that hed had a romantic entanglement with Eva Vlaardingerbroek, a young woman on his electoral list, who was engaged to a French associate of Marine Le Pen. The TV show then played an audio clip of Vlaardingerbroek speaking about her disappointment in Baudets antics and what she claimed was callous racism. Baudet looked briefly shaken and in a small voice said that he had to readjust himself to this news.

The introspection didnt last long. Instead of backtracking, with the elections less than a fortnight away, Baudet has now gone into full Trump mode. His anti-lockdown, anti-vaxxer rhetoric has become more extreme, more conspiracy minded, more anti-media, even suggesting that his followers use creative solutions to optimise proxy voting to the partys advantage.

Since last week hes even been donning a baseball cap.

The one thing that was constantly said about Covid last year, was that it was a great revealer; it revealed the gap between rich and poor, the employed and the unemployed, the old and the young. Covid has also now revealed what Baudet really is; not just the flamboyant and outspoken intellectual that he wanted people to believe he is, but a conspiracy-mongering antisemitic populist, willing to undermine facts, health care, the free press and even democracy, to remain a focal point in Dutch politics.

Is it working? Half of Forum voters now believe Covid was developed to suppress the civilian population.

The problem for Baudet is there are not too many Forum voters left. He is marginalised in the polls and the media have moved on. Dont be fooled by overblown reporting of the recent anti-lockdown, anti-curfew riots which are not a factor in the election. Baudets radical turn has lost him the support of more mainstream voters, because thats also what Covid revealed: that the Netherlands is not a country for baseball caps and a paranoid style of politics. In times of crisis, we like to stay close to what we know. So the mainstream Rutte, in charge for 11 years now, commands a lead in the polls that seems insurmountable by any party.

Baudets demise has helped Wilders support to recover. His party is expected to take 20 seats, more or less the same level of support hes had for a decade. But these are seats that are next to useless, since no mainstream party is willing to work with him, just as he is not willing to work with them. Wilders seems happiest when he is far away from government responsibility.

Baudet will probably keep his current two seats in parliament, if hes lucky he might gain a couple. But hes no longer a contender.

Then again: like Trump, Baudet doesnt believe in the polls.

How things fell apart: Jordan Peterson talks dependency, recovery & what really happened – TheBlaze

Posted: at 5:26 am

On "The Rubin Report" this week, BlazeTV host Dave Rubin spoke with Dr. Jordan Peterson, author of "12 Rules for Life" and "Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life," about giving motivational life advice while struggling with his own recovery, major depression, and how to deal with trauma that haunts you.

Jordan began by discussing the past two years, his severe illness, and his recovery. He described the depression that runs in his family and the toll the chronic stress of constant controversy and attacks by the mainstream media have taken on him.

He also acknowledged the odd position he finds himself in, as someone who gives advice while his own life has seemingly come apart, and shared how bringing order to aspects of your life can reduce social anxiety.

Lady Eagles within a win of 2019-20 season victory total – Fenton Tri County Times

Posted: at 5:26 am

The Linden varsity girls basketball team won six games last year.

The Eagles have played just seven games this season and are already just one victory away from matching that total.

The Eagles (5-2) won their two most recent games, defeating Kearsley 54-40 on Friday and defeating Durand 51-41 on Wednesday.

In the win against Kearsley, the Eagles led 15-8 after the first quarter. The Eagles led by 13 at halftime, but the Hornets fought back. The Eagles lead was just 40-37 entering the fourth quarter. As the fourth continued, Kearsley took a three-point lead, but the Eagles were able to bounce back and earn the comfortable victory.

They calmed down and were able to get back to playing like they did in the first half to finish the game by double-digits, Linden varsity girls basketball coach Zack Darling said.

Overall, it was a good game by both teams and a great conference win for Linden since they have not defeated Kearsley in many years.

Darling was correct. The last time the Eagles defeated Kearsley was a 40-36 victory on Feb. 10, 2016.

The Eagles were very balanced with their scoring. Jordan Peterson led the squad with nine points while Kelsey McLennan, Delanie Prince and Mallory Ross had seven points each. Paige Leedle chipped in six points while Megan Widner had five points.

In the non-league victory against Durand Olivia Mawhinney led the Eagles with 10 points, McLennan had nine points but was dominant inside the paint in other ways. She had 18 rebounds and seven blocks. She also had four assists and two steals. Peterson netted nine points while Allison Maienbrook and Mallory Ross had seven points each. Widner had five points while Leedle chipped in four points.

Antoine Walker says he and Michael Jordan were down $900K in 36-hour game of spades and nearly won it back – CBS Sports Radio 910

Posted: at 5:26 am

There are a number of acceptable excuses for a celebrity to miss a big press conference. A serious personal matter with family. An illness or injury. Some sort of massive traffic build-up or travel delay.

Does being down $900,000 in a game of spades that lasted for a day and a half qualify?

According to longtime NBA star Antoine Walker, a Chicago native who helped to play a part in Michael Jordan's comeback to the NBA for the 2001-2002 season, that's exactly what forced Jordan to postpone a press conference. No, not just any press conference. The press conference to announce his comeback plans.

Walker joined Patrick Peterson and Bryant McFadden on CBS Sports' "All Things Covered" to share a classic Michael Jordan story involving his competitiveness, their friendship and just a little bit of gambling.

"...When Mike calls, the buy-in goes a little higher. Let me just start with that," Walker explained. "So it's gonna be a number put on that everybody got to bring to the table. I'd say probably $20,000. Gotta have 20... just to get in. You ain't got 20 to get in, you can't even play, so that starts that.

"And then Mike is competitive, man. I remember one time we played spades for 36 hours. We were playing against two other guys. Me and Mike were partners and... they had us stuck, behind 900,000.

"What made it even more interesting, it was the day he actually was supposed to make his announcement he was officially coming back. He canceled the press conference, everything. We played for 36 hours, man."

For what it's worth, I probably would have conceded defeat somewhere around, oh, $899,950 ago, but I'm not a big gambler. With stakes like those, I likely wouldn't even have been allowed to come within a mile of the table.

They also weren't playing with markers of some sort they were using cold, hard cash.

"This is what happened: I was leaving for Boston in a couple days, so I had about $100,000. I was always a cash person, I had my money," Walker recalled. "MJ had about $200 (thousand) on him. MJ sent for half a million, cash. Sent for it. And then the other guys we played against had money, too. So they had us down $900,000.

"We got all the money except $20,000. Mike did not want to see them with 20, so they ended up winning 180. He got too tired, we couldn't go no more. He was falling asleep at the table... Every gambling session didn't go 36 hours, but we had some competitive gambling sessions."

If you somehow missed out on "The Last Dance" and you weren't quite sure how deep Jordan's competitive side went, this serves as a pretty good off-the-court example. Battling back from down $900,000 would have been insanely impressive, and you'd have to wonder where such a feat would have ranked on MJ's list of all-time greatest comebacks should it have come to fruition.

(RADIO.COM Sports) There are a number of acceptable excuses for a celebrity to miss a big press conference -- a personal matter with family, an illness or injury, some sort of massive traffic build-up or travel delay.

Diving into the rabbit hole – Daily Cardinal

Posted: at 5:26 am

On Jan. 6, 2021, insurrectionists stormed the United States Capitol in Washington D.C., as Donald Trumps loss to President-elect Joe Biden was being finalized through the certification of each states electoral college votes. The domestic terrorists smashed windows, stole and even killed as lawmakers hung onto their lives precariously until the originally tame response to the rioters shifted to something more assertive. There were white supremacists dressed in vile camp Auschwitz garb and carrying Confederate flags. Indeed, this was the first time the flag had breached into the Capitol in the context of insurrection having previously only been in the Capitol as part of Mississippis old state flag that was replaced by a new one in November. Such a feat had not been accomplished even during the Civil War.

Those who stormed the Capitol did so at Trump and his entourages behest. Earlier in the day, he had spoken of walking down Pennsylvania Avenue, telling his supporters you'll never take back our country with weakness, you have to show strength and you have to be strong. In only a matter of hours, his supporters did exactly as he told, leaving the country and indeed the whole watching world in shock, as America, a pre-eminent bastion of democracy, found its soul almost eviscerated.

Such is the power of demagoguery. Those hungry for power play into their naive audiences deepest fears and painful experiences and feed into conspiracies, best evidenced by a new wave of elected Republican representatives like Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina. This rabbit hole is carefully constructed, luring people to the very bottom of a bottomless pit. Perhaps it makes sense to understand how and why the rabbit hole draws people in and maybe then speculate on what could be done to plug the hole.

First and foremost, we have the media. Humans are inherently bias-driven creatures and such biases can work their way into a journalists mind. Yet, most reliable sources can be verifiably considered reliable due to the journalistic processes employed by reporters that eliminate bias as much as humanly possible. Some outlets, however, do such an excellent job of masquerading as reliable sources minus the journalistic standards of course that they rack up strong ratings. Cable news channels like Newsmax saw significant ratings boosts after the 2020 election, posing a challenge to the original mainstay Fox News. All of these channels perpetuate a world far removed from reality, lying in wait to snare those who respond positively to falsehoods. They often employ dog whistles to appeal to their viewers fears through implication, speaking of the erosion of western culture there is no monolithic western culture rather than saying the racist thing out loud, or labeling everything as communist.

Demographics for channels like Fox News outline a clear age and racial pattern of viewership. According to Pew Research, about nine in 10 Fox News viewers (87%) are non-Hispanic white, with about four in 10 (37%) being 65 or older. It is indeed older white people that soak up destructive misinformation from the news and circulate it on social media. They could be and quite likely are your neighbors or your family.

The state of Wyoming where about 70% of the vote went to Trump sees about 60% of those aged 65 and older not having a college degree. A college degree is by no means a necessity in todays society, but can certainly be used to justify how easily such media platforms are able to sow distrust in reality. The critical thinking skills provided by a college education and the opportunity for interaction with diverse people and ideas is missing, leaving the door open for comfortable lies including those that label a college education itself as propaganda (the data disagrees) and subject it to distrust to enter and fester.

Rural isolation, financial condition and education could really help explain how and why the rabbit hole works. These factors can allow individualistic, isolationist and bigoted views to take root. After all, abstract concepts such as intersectionality simply do not hold firm in such an environment and only sound like jargon. Demagogues are aware of this and often keep things simple, while liberal or even progressive messaging can appear out of touch. Misinformation is also free of cost while reliable news is often kept behind a paywall. Reliable journalism requires financial backing and requesting funds from readers, which ensures more transparency than taking funds from a single rich donor, but the matter of the fact remains that a subscription is the least of a working class persons concerns and leaves an opening to be exploited.

A lot has often been said about this older demographic and it is clear that the last four years have been difficult for the younger generation who face a misinformation generation gap. It is probably impossible to do anything besides making things painfully obvious, perhaps through satire as Id mentioned in another article. Expanding accessible mental healthcare should be a focus too, for some of the reactions to the election cycle from those in the rabbit hole are just sad to see and indicate need for genuine help. Perhaps invoking less academic messaging and more simplistic messaging might work too but, by and large, the older generation is too well programmed, too deep in the hole and too set in their ways. They may very well not be saved entirely but hopefully enough not to stage further insurrections.

This does not hold true for all people who have been sucked in, however. In recent times, younger people have also found themselves lured by the rabbit hole.

Television and radio just dont have as great of an effect on younger people. Instead, YouTube can often prove to be a platform for right wing and even alt-right voices. The YouTube algorithm is especially potent. The content on YouTube often utilizes dog whistles in some ways similar to cable news that target the lonely and vulnerable. For instance, a straight, white male who might have faced a lot of bullying and rejection early on could easily stumble across one single video mocking feminists and SJWs, followed by one touting feminism to be the source of all his woes; this then leads him down the path of recommended videos which ends at the fringes of YouTube with outright conspiracy theories about cultural Marxism and white supremacy. Channels like PragerU have well established themselves on YouTube and personalities like Jordan Peterson and Stefan Molyneaux are also widely found on the platform. They could be considered greatly effective starting points for people, eventually leading the lost to a path of radicalization through the algorithm that doubles down. One could then step out of YouTube and find themselves in forums and chat rooms or watching direct conspiracy programming like InfoWars, thus completing the radicalization.

In simple words, alt-right and conservative content creators have been smart and gamed the platform in order to exploit those in hardship who would easily blame the world around them, view the left as a caricature and eventually buy into blatant misinformation and conspiracy theories outside of mainstream spaces as well. YouTube may very well have influenced future insurrectionists and possibly some who were in the crowd that day in D.C.

How can we combat this? We can fight fire with fire. YouTube did make alterations to its algorithm to try and combat this, but more must be done. My hypothetical example was inspired by real stories where people who had fallen some way into the rabbit hole managed to find their way out. They did so through engagement with progressive content.

Progressive YouTubers like Vaush, Destiny and Contrapoints began mimicking the style of right-wing YouTube, utilizing similar phrases in video titles. The algorithm then did the rest. These videos featured creative, simplified and active debate on the concepts that were previously so well manipulated to exploit the viewers personal struggles, thus helping in deradicalization. This is where the answer lies, if further insurrections are to be prevented. It acts in much the same way as lighting up a dark room with a single torch, which then enables one to find the light switch and then the light itself.

Unlike the older generation that may be set in their ways, the younger generations can definitely be saved. It is wise to keep an eye on those around you and ensure that no one floats in isolation like an island in the sea. They could easily and quite heartbreakingly morph into the next radical insurrectionist with vile views if they find the wrong video online during a low point in their life. The reactionary nature of progressives can often push people further to the brink. Progressive YouTubers are doing what ordinary progressives often struggle to do: Engage with people, rather than cancel.

All of this points out the most significant issue faced by democracy, which is also its biggest asset: Democracy depends on the vote of the people. Socrates feared that not everyone would be an ideal, informed voter and those who were clever enough would simply speak the right words and appeal to the ignorant masses, thus creating a destructive mob of loyalists. It is democracy that killed Socrates after all, with a vote declaring that he be killed by poison hemlock for corrupting minds.

Despite the obvious flaws in democracy, it is the preferred mode of governance of the land of the free and one that nations around the world have valiantly fought for. The session did commence on that fateful day and now we have a President Joe Biden in office. However, the threat cannot be downplayed. Work must be done to ensure the rabbit holes are plugged before the holes gape wide and the ground underneath our feet caves entirely, leaving democracy to die in tatters and demagoguery to rise in its place.

Anupras is a sophomore studying Computer Science and Journalism. Do you feel as if alt-right sympathies have increased in the last decade? Is our democracy still safe from such a threat? Send all comments to opinion@dailycardinal.com.

6 Best CBD Oil for Sleep 2021 – Hemp Products That Actually Help | HeraldNet.com – The Daily Herald

Posted: at 5:25 am

Meta Description: CBD oil promises to offer help for those dealing with sleep issues. But can it truly be the solution? If yes, then what is the best CBD oil for sleep? Having trouble sleeping once in a while is pretty normal; after all, one sleepless night doesnt sound so bad. However, according to the CDC, one in three adults dont get enough sleep, most suffering from sleep disorders. Thats a staggering number, considering that sleep is critical for our health. As such, many people are relying on sleeping pills or similar products. Yet, because of their side effects, sleeping pills might do more harm than good. Thats where CBD oil comes in, promising to offer help for those dealing with sleep disorders. But can this controversial product truly be the solution to insomnia? And if yes, then what is the best CBD oil for sleep

Top 6 Best CBD Oil for Sleep

Weve taken everything from price to quality into consideration when ranking the following products. Our goal is to provide you with an overview of which product is better than the others and why. Without further ado, here is what we consider to be the best CBD oil for sleep.

1. Royal CBD

When it comes to the best CBD oil for sleep, Royal CBD takes the crown. Offering some of the highest quality products on the market, Royal CBD stands above its competition. Their products are sourced from Colorado-grown organic hemp, which is known for being the best hemp in North America. Royal CBD uses supercritical CO2 extraction, meaning that their products are solvent-free. Whats even better is that their CBD oil is full-spectrum, increasing its effectiveness. And if you want proof, you can always check the up-to-date third-party lab test results, freely available on their website. All in all, Royal CBD full-spectrum oil is what every other product should strive for. As such, its well-deserving of its place as the best CBD oil for sleep.

The Pros of Royal CBD Oil

The Cons of Royal CBD Oil

2. Gold Bee

If you know a little bit about CBD, you might have already heard about Gold Bee and their famous honey-flavored oil. Similar to Royal CBD, Gold Bee offers high-quality organic CBD, refined using the CO2 extraction process. What makes them unique, however, is their focus on providing fully organic CBD products. In fact, even the honey they use is 100% organic, lacking any artificial sweeteners.

Gold Bee CBD is continuously mentioned by widely-read publications that rank the top CBD brands for sleep on the market. The company has positive reviews from CFAH and LA Weekly.

Additionally, Gold Bee products are extremely affordable, making them a great choice no matter your budget. How they manage to keep such a low price while selling such high-quality products is a mystery. But somehow, they do it, and that makes them special.

Overall, when it comes to purely organic formulas, you cant find better than Gold Bee and their CBD oil. In fact, Gold Bee is almost as good as Royal CBD, but what drags it down is the lack of high potency products. Nevertheless, Gold Bee deserves its place as the second-best CBD oil for sleep.

The Pros of Gold Bee CBD Oil

The Cons of Gold Bee CBD Oil

3. CBDPure

CBDPure is another company that offers high-quality and reliable products. Not only do they use organic hemp, but they also rely on the supercritical CO2 extraction method. As a result, their CBD oil is effective and doesnt have any traces of extra chemicals such as solvents.

Where CBDPure lacks potency levels and product variety, it makes up in customer service. Thanks to a generous 90-day money-back guarantee, you can give their products a try without worrying about wasting money. And while they may not be the best out there, CBDPure still offers some good quality products.

The Pros of CBDPure Oil

The Cons of CBDPure Oil

4. Hemp Bombs

Unlike the previous three mentions, Hemp Bombs specializes in CBD isolates, with up to 99% pure CBD extracts. They also stray away from the norm by using hemp sourced from organic farms in Europe. Nevertheless, Hemp Bombs CBD oil is still a high-quality product with a lot of medicinal benefits.

However, full-spectrum extracts provide better results thanks to the entourage effect. If that doesnt matter to you, then you can give Hemp Bombs a try. Just dont expect the same effectiveness that Royal CBD or Gold Bee provide.

The Pros of Hemp Bombs CBD Oil

The Cons of Hemp Bombs CBD Oil

5. CBDistillery

CBDistillery is one of the oldest companies on the market, outliving most of its competition. Their knowledge of the market is evident by the number of options they provide. CBDistillery offers both full-spectrum and THC-free oils, giving its customers the right to choose. Furthermore, they manage to provide all that at a lower price than most other companies out there.

The only obvious downside of CBDistillery products is that they dont use organic hemp. Instead, they opt for non-GMO, pesticide-free hemp plants. But that doesnt lower the quality of their products by much, as CBDistillery proves that veterans still have a place in the CBD industry.

The Pros of CBDistillery Oil

The Cons of CBDistillery Oil

6. NuLeaf Naturals

Last but not least, we have NuLeaf Naturals, which uses Colorado-grown organic hemp to provide full-spectrum CBD oil. Whats interesting about them is that they use a mix of subcritical and supercritical CO2 extraction. The result is a high-quality, potent product that is almost as good as what Royal CBD provides.

Although their product range is limited, the potency levels of their oils are above average. In other words, you will need only a few drops of their CBD oil to relax and fall asleep. However, they drop the ball when it comes to the prices, as their products are more expensive than other alternatives.

Why Are Sleep Disorders Dangerous for Your Health?

Everybody knows that sleep is important, but few people know why. The way our brain functions is tied to how much rest we are getting. Usually, anything between 7 to 8 hours of sleep is considered healthy, because that allows our brain to process information collected during the day. However, not getting enough sleep, or even none at all, can have detrimental effects on our psyche. Some of the most common effects of sleep deprivation are as follows:

What Can I Do About It?

In most cases of sleep disorders, pills are the go-to treatment that many doctors recommend. Yet, what the same doctors fail to disclose is that sleeping pills have a long list of side effects. From recurring nightmares to chronic migraines and muscle weakness, sleeping pills can end up doing more harm than good. Thats because most of them work by activating the GABA receptors in our brain, which shuts off neurological activity. In short, all they do is to force sleep on us, instead of actually helping us relax.

Unlike pills, natural supplements such as CBD oil take a different approach to sleep deprivation. Instead of blocking receptors, these supplements relax the mind, inducing the same feeling we get before falling asleep. And while supplements are not as strong as pills, the lack of side effects makes them a better choice.

What Do I Need to Know About CBD Oil?

Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a chemical compound that can be extracted from cannabis and hemp. What makes CBD truly unique is the long list of medicinal benefits it offers. From battling anxiety to relieving pain, cannabidiol seems like the miracle treatment many people were looking for.

But Isnt Using CBD Going to Make Me High?

Although cannabidiol can be extracted from cannabis, it cant get anyone high. What can get people high is a similar compound called THC, which people often confuse for CBD. And while some CBD products contain traces of THC, the amounts are too low to trigger any psychoactive effects.

How Can CBD Help Me Sleep?

The way CBD works is unique, as it targets the endocannabinoid receptors of our body, which keeps track of our sleep cycles. Besides that, cannabidiol also regulates our CB1 and CB2 receptors, responsible for mood and behavior. All those interactions with our body result in a series of benefits that can help improve our sleep.

CBD Relieves Anxiety and Stress

Anxiety and stress are some of the most common causes of sleep disorders. In fact, anxiety itself can be a symptom of not getting enough sleep, making sleep deprivation a never-ending cycle. Its pretty clear that one step in the right direction is reducing anxiety and stress levels.

According to a number of studies, CBD can decrease anxiety and stress, improving sleep quality in turn. As a matter of fact, most users report that CBD helps them relax and prepare for sleep. All evidence suggests that CBD is a great way to reduce anxiety and stress, helping you enjoy a relaxing sleep.

CBD Increases the Duration of Deep Sleep

Deep sleep is important if you dont want to wake up more tired than you were before sleeping. Failing to enter a deep sleep state means that you can wake up at any time, reducing sleep quality. Additionally, it can be extremely hard to reenter a deep sleep state once you have been woken up.

Recent research suggests that CBD can increase the duration and quality of deep sleep. As such, CBD can prove beneficial for people who constantly wake up and have trouble falling asleep again.

CBD Has Great Anti-inflammatory Properties

Pain is another common cause of sleep disorders, as depending on its intensity, it can keep anyone awake. More specifically, chronic pain affects more than 50 million US adults, hindering their sleep schedule.

Luckily, cannabidiol has been proven to be a good way to reduce pain and inflammation. As a result, CBD can improve sleep quality by relieving chronic pain and providing a soothing sensation.

How Can You Buy the Best CBD Oil for Sleep?

By now, it should be obvious that CBD can do wonders for sleep disorders. However, before trying it for yourself, you need to know what to look out for when buying CBD oil. The following list should help you dodge shady products while showing you what products are worth it. In fact, we used the same metrics when making our best CBD oil for sleep list.

Go for Organic Hemp

At the end of the day, the quality of your CBD oil depends on the quality of the hemp used. For example, industrial hemp tends to absorb the elements from the air and soil around it. That can be extremely dangerous if the soil is contaminated with arsenic, lead, or mercury.

On the other hand, organic hemp should be perfectly safe, as the soil is regularly tested for contaminants. Furthermore, organic farmers dont spray their crops with toxic pesticides, making organic hemp a better choice.

Not All Extraction Methods Are the Same

You should try and buy products from manufacturers that use the supercritical CO2 extraction method. Thats because CO2 extraction is solvent-free, the end result being a clean and effective product. Additionally, you should avoid solvent-based extraction, as some of the chemicals used may prove to be dangerous to your health.

Make Sure the Product Is Tested

We cant stress enough how important third-party lab tests are when it comes to CBD. These tests show anything from chemical concentrations to the overall quality of the product. And while some companies can do their own internal testing, third party labs provide the most accurate results.

Research the Extra Ingredients

Like any other supplement, CBD oil can contain additional ingredients that may improve its effectiveness. Its important to know what those ingredients are and how they affect the end result. For example, melatonin is an additive that improves sleep and regulates our sleeping cycle.

The Conclusion

Taking everything into consideration, its clear that CBD oil is a great alternative treatment for people dealing with sleep disorders. Thanks to its relaxing properties and lack of side effects, CBD oil is a better choice than sleeping pills.

However, with so many options on the market, knowledge is extremely important. Pay attention to any product you may want to buy and always read their label. And remember that you can always rely on our list to find the best CBD oil for sleep.

Hands Down, These Are the Best CBD Oils for Better Sleep and Relaxation – Yahoo Lifestyle

Posted: at 5:25 am

CBD has definitely come a long way in recent years. It's now a normal ingredient in so many things. Of course, you can find it in tinctures, capsules, and gummies. But now, it's in beverages and beauty products and is even infused in things like pillowcases. To sum it all up: CBD is everywhere!

If you're not too familiar with CBD, it's short for cannabidiol. According to Harvard Health, CBD is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients in cannabis, but it's derived directly from the hemp plant and does not cause a "high."

A growing number of people are now using CBD products to address anxiety, insomnia, pain, and inflammation. I've used CBD sleep aids and balms to soothe sore muscles. I find it's a nice alternative route when I want to relax or wind down. But recently, my favorite CBD products have been the various oils out there because they're so easy to use, and you can reap the benefits pretty quickly. I've included some of my favorites, plus other highly rated ones below.

It's important to note that more research needs to be done on the efficacy of CBD products, and the FDA warns that some CBD products are marketed with unproven claims and are of unknown quality. If you want to try a CBD product, the best thing you can do is make sure you are researching the product and brand thoroughly. You might also want to talk to your doctor or healthcare provider about adding CBD products to your routine.

How To Boost Your Health With CBD Oil – KHTS Radio

Posted: at 5:25 am

We all aspire to have good health. Even though there is no definitive description of good health, it is a persons well-being. This includes your social, mental, physical, and psychological well-being. For this reason, the health and wellness industry is exploding with research and studies to boost health.

Today, you will find hundreds of app-guided exercises, crash diets, weight management regimens, and everything about health. While some of these approaches are just fads, others provide potential health benefits. A popular compound that supports human health is Cannabidiol (CBD), which is one among hundreds of cannabinoids in the cannabis plant.

Although this compound has been used for several years, its popularity today is explosive. It proves to offer lasting health benefits to a user. Unlike other approaches that focus on a specific ailment, CBD provides an all-encompassing benefit to the body.

CBD may help the body overcome ailments and reduce symptoms by interacting with the human endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS links to the nervous system, brain, and immune system. This way, it can regulate major functions in the body. Besides, it is the system through which the body produces its cannabinoids (Endocannabinoids). These cannabinoids interact with neurotransmitters and receptors to provide relief to ailments.

Even though hundreds of these receptors are running throughout the body, CB1 and CB2 receptors are the primary targets of CBD. These receptors link to the brain, central nervous system, and immune system. Therefore, it regulates mood patterns, thought patterns, cognitive functions, etc.

CBD interacts with these receptors to restore balance in various body functions. Its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and psychoactive properties spike the bodys ability to:

Infertility is common among both men and women. While there are invaluable methods to enhance fertility, CBD can help boost sexual health. According to a survey by Remedy Reviews, about 68% of individuals who use CBD exhibit more outstanding performance, confidence, and self-esteem. While some of the problems with sexual health relate closely to mental disorders, CBD can help alleviate anxiety, depression, stress, and other ailments.

Further, the survey shows that CBD can enhance sex drive, promote sensations and arousal. Even though the application mode is debatable, CBD shows promising results as a potential intimacy and sex enhancer.

Currently, heart diseases are the leading causes of death in the United States. It is essential to take care of your heart and prevent any risking factors to heart health. While there are several treatment options, CBD provides a natural and holistic approach to treat heart problems.

Studies prove that CBD can help with weight loss, reduce tension in blood vessels, and even reduce blood pressure. Besides, CBD indicates to reduce stress, boost metabolism, and improve blood flow. A recent study reveals that CBD can positively influence the lifespan of platelets and white blood cells. All these benefits help enhance the circulatory system and overall heart health.

Our skin is overly exposed to germs, bacteria, and toxins than any other organ in the body. This makes it susceptible to several skin diseases such as acne, psoriasis, hives, eczema, etc. According to a 2017 study, skin diseases affect 1 in 4 individuals in the United States. In contrast, these stats translate to about 50 million Americans. The diverse nature of skin diseases makes it challenging to find the proper treatment that cures skin ailments.

CBD is a perfect alternative to available conventional treatment options. It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial properties that help treat skin conditions. Depending on your specific skin condition, the right CBD product can help remove free radicals on your skin. Besides, CBD can help soothe and moisturize dry and flaky skin. Its therapeutic properties help rejuvenate and restore healthy skin.

Sleeping disorders, especially insomnia, affect about 30% of American adults. Quality sleep is essential for good health, making it a crucial factor to boost your health. The prevalence relates closely to mental health problems such as anxiety, stress, depression, etc. Many people turn to conventional medications to induce sleep. Others prefer natural products such as CBD and cognitive therapy.

CBD may prove to help alleviate sleep disorders, especially insomnia. Its interaction with the ECS helps restore circadian rhythms (sleep-wake patterns). Besides, CBD may exhibit sedative, psychoactive, and relaxing properties at the correct dose to induce sleep at the right amount. Cannabidiol may also help reduce REM behavioral disorder (RBD), a condition that causes daytime sleepiness.

Good health should be a personal concern. However, diseases and ailments may limit your chances of having a happy life free from discomfort and tension. While it is advisable to maintain an active lifestyle and a healthy diet, CBD may be an alternative to supplement and boost your health. If you are taking medication for other medical conditions, consult with your doctor to understand CBD-drug interaction.

CBN Oil for Sleeping Is Better Than Melatonin and CBD – The Daily Beast

Posted: at 5:25 am

We may still be trying to figure out if CBD actually works, but Im here to say that its time to start thinking about CBN, instead. I got the opportunity to try out Calm by Wellnesss Sleep Oil Tincture, a non-melatonin-based sleep aid thats packed with 1000mg of CBD plus 90mg of CBN. After trying it out for a full week, I can say it has earned itself a permanent place on my bedside table.

Calm by Wellness CBD + CBN Sleep Oil Tincture

So, lets start quickly with what CBN oil is and why you should care about it. According to the brand, CBN oil features a similar component to CBD (that is, a non-intoxicating, hemp-derived compound). Its made from the decomposition of THC molecules which are released after CBN-a (CBN acid) is created in the harvesting process. Early evidence suggests that CBN works as a sedative cannabinoid with higher efficacy than most pharmaceuticals. This means it can work in concert with CBD for a maximum calming effect while also helping your brain get the rest it needs.

Now, back to the Sleep Oil. There are oils and tinctures Ive tried before that have helped slow things down for me, but this is the first one Ive tried that has actually felt impactful on my sleep. Fifteen minutes after taking a full dropper, I can feel my legs go tingly. Its not overwhelming, but feels like Ive settled into a warm bath and dont want to move. Most sleep aids include melatonin, which many people are sensitive to, but the Sleep Oil Tincture doesnt. Im not overly sensitive to melatonin, but Ive had post-melatonin mornings feel foggy and slow. Even after taking this oil every night for a week, Ive woken up with a clear head (though in desperate need of coffee, which is its own issue). I will warn you that it has a very, very strong flavor of blueberry but Id take that over the eau de marijuana taste that most CBD oils have. If youve been having restless nights no one would blame you these days I cannot stress how much adding a dropper of this into my nighttime routine changed my entire day.
