Chet Porter Acts As Donald Trump and Accidentally Breaks Twitter With Fake Chet Porter Army – This Song is Sick
Posted: June 13, 2020 at 12:55 am
Those that follow Chet Porter know two things. One, he makes really dope music; two, hes a riot on social media. Chet took his trolling to a whole new level this week when he decided to take on Donald Trump and his supporters by mimicking the presidents profile and tweeting as if he was him. Nobody could have predicted what followed. Were here to give you the full story, and heres the tweet that started it all:
Since Chet is verified, his check mark next to his name carried over and really sealed the deal here, as the tweet went on to reach nearly 1 million likes. Chet made sure to point that out.
Just four hours after the original tweet, Chet Porter had his verification stripped and was subsequently banned by Twitter for attempting to impersonate someone in a misleading manner. The message, however, was successfully conveyed. The tweet had gone viral, and upon hearing of Chets ban, hundreds of fans began to change their profile pictures and names to assume Chets online identity. An army of Chet Porters had arrived, and Twitter wasnt ready. Just check out the replies to Alison Wonderlands call to arms:
The user responsible for reporting Chets original tweet then showed himself, and proved that it was he who took action, defending the president. He was unaware of what he created in his wake.
This was now a full-on movement, with countless carbon copies of Chet coming out of the woodwork, ready to show their support for whatactual Chet Porter was standing up to. Chet was not prepared for such a demonstration:
Support increased even further when artists and brands began showing their support:
Finally, early this afternoon, Chet Porter was allowed back onto Twitter, however his shiny verification badge did not return with him. Hey may have lost verification, but it was for a mighty good cause.
The story doesnt end there, however. Just as we were about to publish this post, Twitter reinstated his verified status due to the size of the Chet Porter army.
Chet is now back, good as new, and it seems this saga will be concluded with the deletion of the original tweet. Although the tweet may soon be gone, we will never forget the bravery of Chet.
To commemorate Chets bravery and the power of the fake Chet Porter army, we have a whole library of memes thanks to the fine folks of EDM Twitter. Here are some of our favorites below.

Facebook, Google, and Twitter to produce monthly reports on coronavirus disinformation – The Verge
Posted: at 12:55 am
The EU is stepping up efforts to combat online disinformation about the coronavirus pandemic, requesting that US tech giants produce monthly reports containing detailed data on how they are combatting fake news about COVID-19 on their platforms.
Google, Facebook, and Twitter are the prime targets of this campaign, and the three companies told The Verge they would be complying with the EUs requests. Exactly what steps they will take, though, and when they might start producing reports is unknown.
The EU is worried that misinformation surrounding the coronavirus could prolong the effects of the pandemic. This is a particular problem with the anti-vaccine movement, which has an outsized influence online and will likely rally against any future COVID-19 vaccine. Scientist say a vaccine is necessary for countries around the world to return to normal, but many nations are easing lockdown measures anyway, inviting a second wave of infections.
While additional information on COVID-19 misinformation could help coordinate responses across the tech industry, its not clear if the EUs request will produce that useful data.
For a start, tech giants are not legally required to produce these new monthly reports. Theres also no guidance on exactly what the reports should contain, and companies The Verge spoke to said they were still working out what information to include.
The request is also not part of the EUs voluntary Code of Practice on Disinformation, which requires signatories like Google, Facebook, and Twitter to report on a monthly basis on their actions undertaken to improve the scrutiny of ad placements, ensure transparency of political and issue-based advertising and to tackle fake accounts and malicious use of bots.
A representative for the EU told The Verge the program would be launched without delays and that detailed timings would soon be made public. The EU has told tech companies it would rather the data was comprehensive than rushed, and its likely the format will be similar to reports produced to tackle misinformation about the 2019 EU elections.
Spokespersons for Google, Facebook, and Twitter, told The Verge they supported the EUs efforts and had already stepped up plans to combat misinformation about the pandemic on their platforms. Facebook and Google said they were committed to producing new monthly reports, while Twitter said it was still considering how to present this information, but that it would be adding regular updates to its coronavirus misinformation blog.
The global pandemic has shown that more people need more accurate information more than ever, Matt Brittin, president of Google EMEA, told The Verge. Through our cooperation with Vice-President Jourova and national authorities we know that working together, companies and policymakers can make more difference than working alone. Were committed to the Code of Practice and to our work together to find new and creative ways to continue the fight against disinformation.

SF police union tells Muni to ‘lose our number’ in Twitter fight over taking cops ro protests – San Francisco Chronicle
Posted: at 12:55 am
San Franciscos police union started a social media spat over police brutality with the citys transportation agency on Wednesday, telling Muni it can look elsewhere for help when a crime occurs on one of its buses or light-rail cars.
The bold words made on Twitter came after the Municipal Transportation Agency announced in a series of tweets that it would no longer transport SFPD to anti-police brutality protests.
Muni also halted service across its lines Tuesday for eight minutes and 46 seconds to honor George Floyd, who died May 25 when a Minneapolis police officer put his knee on Floyds neck for that amount of time. Floyds funeral was held Tuesday in Houston.
In response to Munis tweets, the San Francisco Police Officers Association told Muni officials to lose our number in a post Wednesday morning.
Hey Muni, lose our number next time you need officers for fare evasion enforcement or removing problem passengers from your buses and trains, union officials wrote in a tweet. Shouldnt be a (San Francisco police) officers job anyway. (Chief Bill Scott) should stop using us for this.
Tony Montoya, president of the San Francisco police union, defended the online reaction in an interview Wednesday with The Chronicle, saying he was taken aback by the Muni tweet when someone forwarded it to him.
Muni seems to be jumping on the bandwagon, buying into and spreading the rhetoric thats not true, he said. But if Muni doesnt want us, maybe we shouldnt be responding to the person sleeping in the back of the coach at the end of the night. Maybe we shouldnt respond to fare evasion. ... They cant have it both ways.
In response to inquiries about the unions tweet, San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott said he wanted to assure San Franciscans that when his officers are called to respond to emergencies, Were coming.
Any suggestion otherwise whether in social media or elsewhere is mistaken and irresponsible, he said in an email. Whenever were needed, the San Francisco Police Department will be there. Thats a promise from me as your Chief of Police, and its a promise to which every officer in this department is sworn.
San Francisco police work on a range of efforts with Munis Security, Investigations and Enforcement division. The Police Department has a Muni response team, where uniformed officers ride throughout the railway system and respond to Muni-related calls. Police also have a Muni task force, which includes plainclothes enforcement on and around Muni property.
Montoya said that his members will continue to follow orders and respond to calls for service, but policymakers should take a hard look at where they want a police presence.
I thought the citys supposed to be united right now, he said. It seems apparent that theyre trying to drive a very deep wedge not only between the police and the community, but between the police and other city departments.
San Francisco transportation chief Jeffrey Tumlin on Wednesday said that although his agency had a longstanding practice of transporting police as it would any other city department he didnt know that Muni buses were being used for protest enforcement until he heard about it on social media.
The revelation prompted many very powerful internal conversations ... about what is our rightful role in promoting justice and equality in San Francisco, Tumlin said as he addressed reporters outside the Kirkland bus yard near the citys northern waterfront.
Tumlin acknowledged that San Francisco police have provided important services for Muni, particularly at a time when assaults on transit operators are increasing. But he added that Muni passengers find the sight of police in riot gear unsettling.
Supervisor Aaron Peskin condemned the tweet from the police union, calling it a dereliction of duty and applauding Muni for taking a bold stance on the day of Floyds funeral.
Supervisor Dean Preston agreed, saying that when a Muni bus pulls up to a protest and unloads police officers it can create a perception that the transit agency has chosen the side of police.
The San Francisco Police Department issued a statement Wednesday saying it will respect and honor the actions SFMTA is taking to advance the cause of racial justice and equity.
We recognize we are all in the midst of a difficult, emotionally charged time as we come to terms with painful truths about the kind of policing that took George Floyds life in Minneapolis, said Sgt. Michael Andraychak, a department spokesman. SFPDs commitment to the safety and First Amendment rights of those we serve remains undiminished, of course, and weve adjusted our transportation and operations accordingly.
Montoya said the Minneapolis Police Department shouldnt be compared to San Franciscos, which has checked off all eight of the 8CantWait campaign policies known to reduce violence between police and citizens. He called on Chief Scott to outline how the two city departments will work together going forward.
Im sure your average citizen and (officers) would probably rather free themselves out to respond to more serious crimes, rather than someone drinking a Coke on 14th and Mission, Montoya said. Were OK with them not wanting us to respond to those incidents, but the chief needs to be very clear and give our members direction.

Nationals ace Max Scherzer takes another jab at MLB team owners on Twitter – USA TODAY
Posted: at 12:55 am
What I'm Hearing: Our MLB Insider Bob Nightengale details how Rob Manfred could implement the unilateral decision to start a 48-game season if a deal isn't reach soon. Nightengale believes that doomsday scenario could finally lead to a deal. USA TODAY
Max Scherzer, a three-time Cy Young winner, just threw another pitch high-and-inside directed at Major League Baseball owners.
Some owners have mentioned owning a team isnt very NET profitable," the Washington Nationals ace tweeted on Wednesday. "You know what other company isnt very NET profitable? Amazon."
With MLBand the players' union still at odds over an economic agreement, Scherzer took aim at the financial profits the owners are claiming during the ongoing labor negotiations.

MLB DRAFT: Why Spencer Torkelson is a home run first pick for the Detroit Tigers
MLB insiststhey will lose $640,000 per team for each regular-season game played in empty ballparks because 40% of revenue is tied to gate. The union disputes thesefigures but claims it has not been given the data it needs to make a full evaluation.
Earlier this week, St. Louis Cardinals owner Bill Dewitt Jr. discussed the cash-flow problemamong teams.
"The industry isn't very profitable, to be honest," DeWitt said on 590TheFan in St. Louis on Tuesday. "And I think they (the players)understand that. They think owners are hiding profits. There's been a bit of distrust there. It's a bit of a zero-sum game. They have by far the best deal of any players in any sport."
Max Scherzer helped lead the Nationals to a World Series title last season.(Photo: Richard Mackson, USA TODAY Sports)
DeWitt's comments echo the sentiment from Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts last week.
"Here's something I hope baseball fans understand," Ricketts told ESPN. "Most baseball owners don't take money out of their team. They raise all the revenue they can from tickets and media rights, and they take out their expenses, and they give all the money left to their GM to spend.
"The league itself does not make a lot of cash. I think there is a perception that we hoard cash and we take money out and it's all sitting in a pile we've collected over the years. Well, it isn't. Because no one anticipated a pandemic. No one expects to have to draw down on the reserves from the past. Every team has to figure out a way to plug the hole."
Scherzer, who isamong eight playerson the MLB PlayersAssociation executive subcommittee, has been very vocal during negotiations. On May 27, he issued a statement on Twitter calling the league's proposal for more salary reductions a non-starter.
After discussing the latest developments with the rest of the players theres no need to engage with MLB in any further compensation reductions, Scherzer tweeted. We have previously negotiated a pay cut in the version of prorated salaries, and theres no justification to accept a 2nd pay cut based upon the current information the union has received.
The two sides likely have another week of negotiations before MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred could exercise his right to implement a deal to start the season without an agreement with the union. MLB negotiated for the right in the March 28 deal.
Before the MLB draft on Wednesday,Manfred vowed there would be a season even if an agreement is not reached.
I can tell you unequivocally," he said,"we are going to play Major League Baseball this year.

Twitter rightfully roasted NBA 2K21 for its insanely sweaty graphics – For The Win
Posted: at 12:55 am
Video game graphics have looked better and better as the years have gone by and naturally so.
Everything cant still look like Super Mario on the original Nintendo, right? Right. That would be terrible. With that being said, however, a video game should never look this real.
Or, for that matter, this sweaty.
2K sports gave us the first look at NBA 2K21 during Sonys Future of Gaming event and it was, uh, interesting.
Zion Williamson introduced the game and was the athlete they used in their gameplay video. The first thing you see is the Pelicans forward absolutely drenched in sweat.
Like, bruh. THAT LOOKS REAL. Its almost like a photo of Zion on the court. Fam. Unreal. Well, not unreal. Its actually too real.
Even the video when hes in action looks ridiculously real.
SO. MUCH. SWEAT.
He was so sweaty that Twitter had no choice but to roast NBA 2K itself.
Honestly? They arent wrong. NBA 2K looks better each and every yearbut the game typically comes with similar flaws that are just never corrected.
So, yeah, 2K. The sweat is cool. Zion is cool. All of that is good. But fix the game, fam.

Ice Cube is posting anti-Semitic memes and conspiracy theories on Twitter – Business Insider India
Posted: at 12:55 am
Rapper, actor, and producer Ice Cube has continued to post a series of alarming, anti-Semitic conspiracy theories on Twitter. The NWA rapper, whose real name is O'Shea Jackson, has also shared imagery connected to the QAnon conspiracy theory movement.
On Wednesday, Ice Cube, 50, tweeted an image of a black cube that's called the "Black Cube of Saturn," an occult-related symbol that indicates chaos. The black cube was laid over an image of a Star of David, seemingly implying that the Jewish people are somehow behind the world's chaos and echoing anti-Semitic aspects of the popular Illuminati conspiracy theories. People have also used the black cube to claim that Jews were behind the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and the novel coronavirus, according to The Jewish Chronicle.
On Wednesday, he responded to criticism that his tweets were anti-Semitic. "What if I was just pro-Black? This is the truth brother. I didn't lie on anyone. I didn't say I was anti anybody. DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE. I've been telling my truth," he said in a tweet.

According to Renee DiResta, the technical research manager at the Stanford Internet Observatory, one of the images Ice Cube shared on Wednesday appeared to originate from a Russian-led Facebook group "focused on integrating itself into real Black media networks," that only exists to "sow discord." The image espoused a conspiracy theory alleging that Europeans had shot off the noses of Egyptian statues.
Q is an anonymous (and likely nonexistent) figure whose claims, posted on a fringe message board, about the world are taken on by followers of the movement. In a subsequent tweet, Ice Cube said that he doesn't know who Q is. "It's just a True statement," he said.
QAnon conspiracy theories originated on the fringe corners of the internet, but have since extended to reach Instagram influencers and even caught the attention of Hilary Duff and Oprah Winfrey, both of whom have been subjects of the movement's fodder.
It's also become popular among the Republican party, as Trump continues to share memes and beliefs associated with QAnon. 51 current or former candidates for US Congress have espoused various QAnon conspiracy theories online, according to Media Matters for America.

Portland journalist who criticized police on Twitter claims they’re trying to wrongfully arrest him – Bangor Daily News

Portland Police Chief Frank Clark speaks with a reporter after a Wednesday press conference outside City Hall.
PORTLAND, Maine Police officers appeared at the home of a journalist Tuesday morning, telling his wife they planned to arrest him for criminal mischief.
The journalist said the accusations were trumped up and believes the visit was stoked by two recent tweets he made that were critical of the police.
Christian Milneil, a data journalist for the Boston-based StreetsBlog MASS, took footage of the police officers from the upstairs of his Portland home and documented the incident on Twitter.
The officers allegedly spoke to Milneils wife, who found them on the porch when she returned from an errand. One was uniformed, the other wore a polo shirt.
Jes Milneil told the officers they needed a warrant to arrest Milneil.
They told me they were just trying to help him out, and that he should, Be a man and come down here, Jes Milneil said, referring to statements allegedly made by the officer in the polo shirt.
According to her, the uniformed officer said, We know [Milneil has] preconceived notions about the police, we know that as a fact.
Jes Milneil said her heart was in her throat.
How could they know what I think about cops? she said.
Within hours after Christian Milneil documented the incident, the city of Portland tweeted that he is suspected of vandalizing a building in his neighborhood with graffiti. Police tweeted that officers were there to serve him a court summons for criminal mischief.
A city spokesperson did not specify which building, but Christian Milneil said he believes theyre referring to a low-income housing complex operated by Avesta Housing on the corner of Oxford and Boyd streets known as the Bayside Anchor building. The building has a community policing substation in it. As of Tuesday, a BDN reporter found no graffiti there.
Christian Milneil denied any role in the vandalism.
Its definitely not me. The notion that I would vandalize a building that I was a big advocate for is absurd, he said. Thats not my style of activism or advocacy. There are much more effective ways of saying that the police are overfunded.
Christian Milneil sits on the board of the Portland Housing Authority, which is in part responsible for the building.
Christian Milneil said the police cant press charges about observations he has made on social media, so theyre trying to wrongfully charge him for vandalism instead.
Theyre spending way too much time arresting or harassing homeless people, he said. I think thats actually what theyre upset about.
Christian Milneil tweeted Monday night about Standish, a Maine town that he said has defunded its local police, and relies on lightly-staffed county sheriffs for law enforcement. Last week, he also posted about a Portland police officer who fatally shot Chance David Baker, a 22-year-old black man, in a confrontation in a parking lot.
Just a reminder: Sgt. Nicholas Goodman, the #PortlandME cop who shot and killed Chance David Baker for carrying a BB gun in 2018, ALSO escalated a traffic stop and shot and killed another victim in May 2008, Milneils tweet reads.
Calls to defund the Portland Police Department have been a chief demand in multiple protests in Portland since May 29. On Friday, an estimated 2,000 people attended a protest organized by Black Lives Matter Portland, which called for city officials to divert funds earmarked for law enforcement to schools, jobs and social services.
The Milneils have attended some of those protests. On Friday evening, Christian Milneil and his wife and their two children attended one organized by Black Lives Matter Portland.

Facebook fired an employee who criticized a coworker on Twitter for not issuing a public statement supporting – Business Insider India
Posted: at 12:55 am
Facebook fired an employee after he criticized a coworker on Twitter who refused to add a statement supporting Black Lives Matter to the documentation for an open-source software project they oversee, a spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider.
"In the interest of transparency, I was let go for calling out an employee's inaction here on Twitter. I stand by what I said. They didn't give me the chance to quit," Bradon Dail, the former employee, tweeted Friday.
"I can confirm the accuracy of Brandon's tweets explaining what happened," a Facebook spokesperson told Business Insider.

Trump's posts included the racially charged phrase "when the looting starts, the shooting starts" in reference to protests against systemic racism and police brutality held after the May 25 killing of George Floyd.
Zuckerberg's position has prompted rare public rebukes and even resignations within the company, both from Facebook employees and content moderators, as well as external pushback from civil rights leaders and other critics.
Dail again voiced objections this week after both Facebook and Twitter declined to take action against a Trump post that contained an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory about Martin Gugino, a 75-year-old protester who was critically injured by police in Buffalo, New York.
Dail did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Parents demand CISCE cancel exams, take to Twitter – Times of India
Posted: at 12:55 am
MUMBAI: On Friday morning in a span of an hour and a half, there were over 28,000 Twitter mentions using the #Cancel10thICSEboards. An initiative of six mothers of ICSE students from Delhi, the campaign is gathering support from parents who want the council to cancel the board exams scheduled from July 1 to 14.The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations has scheduled its pending examinations but parents havent been happy about the decision. There have been several online petitions demanding that the examinations be cancelled. Last week, the state school education department also wrote to the board to conduct the exam in a later month or rely on internal assessment. A city parent has also filed a petition in the Bombay High Court.'; var randomNumber = Math.random(); var isIndia = (window.geoinfo && window.geoinfo.CountryCode === 'IN') && (window.location.href.indexOf('outsideindia') === -1 ); //console.log(isIndia && randomNumber On the 19th of March CICSE stopped all board examinations with 6 papers still left for 10th grade students (number may vary for individual students according to subjects chosen). At that point in time there were 236 cases of Covid-19 across India. Now when there are nearly 3 lakh confirmed cases of Covid-19, the board has announced that they will complete the pending papers in the first two weeks of July, said the mothers in their appeal. The mothers set up a Whatsapp group on Thursday to gather support for their campaign. Within a couple of hours, they had created multiple groups with over 2,300 parents. We realised that most parents had similar concerns about safety of the children so we decided to raise a voice using social media through a Tweetathon. Within just an hour and a half, we had over 30,000 tweets about it. This is a sign that the sentiment is the same across the country, said Radhika Singh, one of the mothers. The other hashtag being used was #studentslivesmatter.

3 new companies bringing 340 jobs to Reno-Sparks, including one with Twitter roots – Reno Gazette Journal

Reno-Sparks welcomed three new companies to the area on Wednesday, including a yoga mat manufacturer as well as a tech company with Twitter roots.
The companies Plus Plus, Yogo and Affinity Development Group are expected to bring in 340 total jobs to the area in the coming years, according to the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada.
Marko Gargenta, founder and CEO of Plus Plus, says his company decided to expand its sales and marketing operations into Reno to step out from the Silicon Valley bubble while still being in close proximity to the Bay Area. Gargenta has plenty of experience in the tech sector. Gargenta previously co-founded a company called Markana, which was acquired by Twitter and eventually led to Twitter University.
More in business: For homebuyers, digital shopping and e-transactions likely here to stay
Gargenta says he sees a lot of similarities between the Biggest Little City and his company, which expands on the Twitter University concept and specializes in helping organizations implement peer learning programs.
One of our core values in the company is humble, hungry and smart, Gargenta said when reached by phone by the Reno Gazette Journal. We sort of see Reno as representing that very humble and hungry and smart community so that in an interesting way, the city itself represents our core values.
The three new companies will help boost continued efforts to diversify the regions economy a need made evident earlier this year by the COVID-19 pandemic, said Mike Kazmierksi, EDAWN president and CEO. A lot of the jobs lost in recent months are not coming back, which makes it even more important to bring in new companies, Kazmierski said.
Kazmierski also pointed to the difference in the unemployment rate between the Reno and Las Vegas metro areas as proof of the importance of economic diversification. Las Vegas, which is more reliant on gaming and tourism, posted a 33.5% jobless rate in April while Renos was lower at 19.6%, according to the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
A lot of people were laid off through the response to the pandemic, Kazmierski said. We need to continue our job efforts and these companies are a good opportunity for people looking for a quality job.
Yogo, for example, is in a sector that withstood the impacts of the coronavirus fairly well, Kazmierski said. The company manufactures sustainable yoga travel mats, and manufacturing was one of the Northern Nevada sectors that quickly bounced back, according to EDAWN.
More in business: In work-from-home world, more folks see need for home improvements
Manufacturing had its fits and starts in accommodating social distancing but once they got through that, they ramped up operations and are all up and running now, Kazmierski said.
Northern Nevadas logistics and distribution sector also continued to hum, Kazmierksi added. Yogo cited the region's well-developed logistics sector and its quality of life as key reasons that attracted it to the area. The company is moving its operations as well as its headquarters to Sparks.
The move to Northern Nevada is akin to a homecoming for Yogo CEOJessica Thompson, who lived in Reno during her college years.
I launched Yogo originally in the Bay Area ... but as we attempted to scale, I came to realize that its a very difficultplace to grow a company, Thompson said. Scaling up has been so much easier since we moved here.
It has also been easier to keep employees in Northern Nevada compared to the Bay Area, where a lot of people are always looking for the next opportunity, Thompson said. Thompson described the employment situation as a game-changer that has allowed the Yogo team to grow and congeal.
The third company is San Diego-based Affinity Development Group, whichis setting up a new office in Reno and plans to hire around 200 employees. The company develops data-driven customer management programs for its clients, which include Costco, Prudential and Aetna. Job inquiries to Affinity Development Group can be sent to: careers@affinitydev.com.
None of the companies received abatement incentives from the state, according to EDAWN. Plus Plus, however, received an investment from the Reno Seed Fund, which was the lead investor in the $860,000 seed round that the software company received.
Lt. Governor Kate Marshall touted the importance of bringing in companies such as Plus Plus, Yogo and Affinity Development Group, especially given the economic backdrop brought about by the pandemic.
We are living in unprecedented times (but) our diversification has made it so its a little bit easier (and)theres a little bit more breathing space here, Marshall said. I cant tell you how important it means to diversify, diversify, diversify for our economy going forward.
