The Best Trance Events at Miami Music Week 2017 | Miami New … – Miami New Times

Amid all the house, bass, techno, and beyond at Miami Music Week, it can be easy to forget about trance unless, of course, you're a devoted member of the #TranceFamily. Trance has been an integral part of Miami dance music; residencies such as George Acosta at Shadow Lounge and Edgar V and Markus Schulz at Space are the stuff of legend. And trance still shows its face around town, even if not with the frequency it did 15 years ago.

So let this serve as an agenda so that #TranceFamily brothers and sisters can soak in psy, tech, progressive, hard, classic, and uplifting. Let this be a compass for those who religiously listen to A State of Trance every Thursday at 2 p.m. Let this be a megaphone for those who unanimously agree Ferry Corsten is a genius. Wednesday through Sunday, this is the trance game plan.

Aly & Fila Six-Hour Set. 11 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at Heart Nightclub, 50 NE 11th St., Miami; 305-912-3099; heartnightclub.com. Tickets $20 to $30 via tickets.heartnightclub.com. Egyptians Aly El Sayed Amr Fathalah and Fadi Wassef Naguib are most comfortable smashing it out around 138 bpm. Their glorious buildups followed by hard bass lines mark the uplifting trance experience for which they are known. In 2015, Aly & Fila used the Great Pyramid of Giza as their breathtaking backdrop during an unforgettable show. Wednesday's six-hour marathon will happen in Heart's dark basement room and for a night of trance, it's just as fitting.

United We Groove. With Kristina Sky, Nifra, and Judah. 1 to 11 p.m. Friday, March 24, on the C-Level Rooftop Terrace at the Clevelander, 1020 Ocean Dr., Miami Beach; 305-532-4006; clevelander.com. Free with RSVP at kristinasky.com/miami2017. California-based trance matriarch Kristina Sky will be joined by Coldharbour's Nifra and Anjunabeats' Judah. "I'm trying to take things back to basics, because it felt like for trance and progressive there was a demand for something like this, and I am happy to try to provide it," Sky says. If going "back to basics" means when dance music wasn't publicly traded on Wall Street and bottle service was nonexistent, count us in. Sky considered playing an extended set, but United We Groove is about sharing the stage and supporting other artists.

Cosmic Gate & Friends Sunset Cruise. 3 p.m. Saturday, March 25, on the Biscayne Lady yacht, 401 Biscayne Blvd., Miami; magneticgrooves.com. Tickets cost $125 to $165 via wantickets.com. Imagine listening to Claus Terhoeven and Stefan Bossems' hypnotic beats while sailing the blue waters of Biscayne Bay. Well, for a hefty price tag, you can live the real thing. And admission includes a premium open bar, so you should come out ahead if you can earn your sea legs before the cruise is over. And, honestly, can you put a price on soaking up the sun while "Exploration of Space" bangs in the background?

Markus Schulz Open-to-Close. 11 p.m. Sunday, March 26, in the Main Room at Heart Nightclub, 50 NE 11th St., Miami; 305-912-3099; heartnightclub.com. Tickets cost $20 to $30 via tickets.heartnightclub.com. If you're unfortunate enough to miss A State of Trance and Armin van Buuren's annual Sunday takeover at Ultra, there's still a reason to close out the weekend dancing. Markus Schulz has taken it upon himself to open and close Heart. Dubbed the "unicorn slayer" by fans for his refusal to rely on "unicorn melodies" light and upbeat melodies many DJs use to build up their sets Schulz takes the crowd on a transonic ride to the dark side and releases them into the rabbit hole.

Trance band Above & Beyond say they were always fascinated with India’s culture – Hindustan Times

Posted: at 7:28 am

Paavo Siljamki and Tony McGuinness of Above & Beyond talk about their love for all things Indian, trance music and rerecording a local version of their track.

The three-member English progressive trance group, Above & Beyond performed in Mumbai at a Holi event. Comprising Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamki, the band has been ranked in the top 100 by DJ Magazine. With songs such as No one on earth and Were all we need, the outfit has established themselves on the international music scene. Talking to HT Caf, Siljamki and McGuinness give us their take on Indian culture, food and their inspiration, among other things.

How does it feel to come back to India? What is different about performing in India?

Siljamki: Weve been fascinated by Indias culture, people, food, music and parties ever since we started our label Anjunabeats in 1999. The Indian electronic music scene, especially in the last five years, has been growing rapidly. Theres always so much enthusiasm and energy in the parties that happen in the country. We cant get enough of them.

Above & Beyond has collaborated with Bangalore-based band Lagori. (HTPhoto)

What has been your biggest inspiration when it comes to making music?

McGuinness: It can be almost anything a book that weve read, a film weve seen or something that sparks a train of thought and needs a musical or lyrical solution. And, noodling on an instrument be it a guitar or a piano or a synth is a fruitful route as well.

Do you follow Bollywood? Can your Indian fans expect collaboration with Indian artiste in the future?

McGuinness: We have collaborated with the Bangalore-based band Lagori. They have recorded the Indian versions of our songs Sun & moon and Were all we need. They rewrote the verses in both the cases but used the choruses from the English versions.

Watch the official video of Sun & moon here:

How has trance music changed over the years?

McGuinness: Trance has permeated into various genres of EDM. In 1998, you could see a gaping gap between trance, house, electro, and techno with tumbleweeds rolling through them. You cant make similar distinctions today. Arguably, what Swedish House Mafia became famous for playing is more in tune with old fashion trance music from 1998 than with house music from the same year.

‘America in a Trance’: Photographer documents Pennsylvania’s industrial towns – PhillyVoice.com

Posted: at 7:28 am

When Niko Kallianiotis came to the United States from Greece more than two decades ago, his impression of America was heavily colored by Hollywood and the country's reputation for larger-than-life metropolitanism.

He settled in Scranton, however, about as wrong of a place to find that glitz and glamor as any in the nation. A photographer, Kallianiotis came to understand a different side of the United States, one whose industrial past was in conflict with the economic tides that swept it away, one factory at a time.

For his most recent exhibition, on display at Scranton's Marywood University, Kallianiotis traveled across Pennsylvania to document the scenery of the state's once thriving industrial towns. Inspired in part by the influence of the 2016 presidential election and President Trump's popularity in large parts of Pennsylvania, Kallianiotis dubbed the running collection, "America in a Trance," as a way to describe the palpable mood he witnessed in his travels:

In a recent interview with PBS, Kallianiotis explained that while the project isn't meant to be overtly political, its title hints at a broader societal observation he's made about the American people since last year's election.

Most of Kallianiotis' work can be found at his website and on his Instagram. Below is a sampling of his work for "America in a Trance."

CyberPunk 2077 Can Be A Bigger Success Than The Witcher 3 … – GamingBolt

Posted: at 7:27 am

Heres hoping they top themselves!

From going to making niche, cult hit cRPGs, to one of the biggest and most acclaimed AAA titles in history, CD Projekt RED has had a hell of a ride- and its not stopping any time soon, because right now, all hands on deck are working onCyberPunk 2077. CD Projekt has previously said thatCyberPunk will be its most ambitious outing till date- and speaking to Polish website Gazeta, CD Projekt RED co-founder Micha Kiciskhas stated yet again thatCyberPunk could go on to become an even bigger success thanThe Witcher 3.

I think that none of us expected such an unbelievable success of the game and CD Projekt itself. Were talking about a game, that has pretty much won every single award and accolade that you can in this industry. If were to expect something more, it would be even better sales of the game. My brother Adam (CD Projekts CEO) spoke about it at one of the investors conferences. The Witcher 3 was of course a gigantic commercial success, but in terms of sales theres still a lot of room for growth. CD Projekts ambition is to catch up with the largest developers in the world in that area.

And why willCyberPunk achieve greater success? Well, one reason could be its science fiction setting, inherently more appealing than a fantasy setting.

The Witcher was a fantastic material for a game, but it also constraint us. For starters, were working with a story set in a fantasy world. Secondary, were promoting a brand, that was mainly known in Central-Eastern Europe, and not in the west. Im confident, that Cyberpunk 2077 can be a much bigger commercial success than The Witcher 3. The futuristic world of the Cyberpunk is much closer to what we know from our daily lives. Its also much more popular, massive as you can tell by its presence in the films, books, comics and games. You have to remember, that fantasy is a much more niche topic.

I believe, that in case of Cyberpunk, CD Projekt can fight not only for prestigious awards and accolades, but also for a huge commercial success. Its hard to achieve both of those in our industry, but its perfectly doable, as shown by Rockstar and, in the past, Blizzard.

I wish CD Projekt RED all the luck in the world. WithThe Witcher 3, they have proven they are a talented bunch. Now lets see ifThe Witcher 3 was just a flash in the pan.

Cyberpunk 2077 Has The Potential To Be A Bigger Commercial Success Than The Witcher 3, Says CD Projekt Red Co … – TheWolfHall (press release) (blog)

Posted: at 7:27 am

Cyberpunk 2077 will be the latest offering by renowned Polish developer CD Projekt RED. Whose claim to fame is the RPG masterpiece The Witcher 3 : Wildhunt. The developers have a lot of expectations associated with the release of Cyberpunk 2077, and one of its co-foundersMicha Kicisk believes they can meet and even exceed expectations . In an interview with Polish website Gazetahe talked about how he thinks that Cyberpunk 2077 can be a bigger success than the Witcher 3

I am convinced that Cyberpunk 2077 may be a much greater commercial success thanThe Witcher 3. TheFuturistic world of Cyberpunk is closer to what we know from everyday life. It is also increasingly popular, mass, as evidenced by its presence in a number of films, books, comics and games. You have to remember that fantasy, is a niche topic.

I believe that in the case of Cyberpunk CD Projekt we will be able to fight not only for the prestigious prizes and awards, but also forgreat commercial success. The combination of these two elements in the gaming industry is difficult but entirely possible, as the example of Rockstar today, and Blizzard as well.

Micha Kicisk believes that Cyberpunk 2077 has the potential to be bigger and better than The Witcher 3 because although the source material was great , the entity in the start was only popular in Central-European regions, It had to built as a brand across the world and that obviously took time. While in Contrast Cyberpunk will be able to appeal to a wider audience.

The Witcher 3 pretty much racked up every other accolade that is associated with gaming , so if somehow Cyberpunk manages to top that it will indeed be a phenomenal achievement by the folks at CD Projekt RED.

Let us know what are your hopes and expectations from CD Projekt Red by commenting in the comments section below.

Cyberpunk 2077 release date, trailer, news, gameplay, and everything you need to know – Digital Spy

Posted: at 7:27 am

You've probably finished The Witcher 3 by now as well as its subsequent expansions, which has left a rather large hole, the exact shape of a CD Projekt RPG, within your sinking heart.

In such a situation only one thought can console you: Cyberpunk 2077.

But what is Cyberpunk 2077? Why does the name make our unmentionable parts tremble with excitement? Why haven't you heard a peep about it ages? Here we'll attempt to answer all these questions and more regarding CD Projekt's next enormous RPG.

Advertisement - Continue Reading Below

Thankfully CP77 will reach us well before this century's eighth decade. Development is still in the early stages, as CD Projekt didn't direct serious resources at CP77 until The Witcher 3 was complete.

According to the developer, the CP77 team is now the biggest it's ever employed on one game.

When it will reach our hands? We don't know, but as CD Projekt intends to release two full-scale AAA RPGs between now and 2021, it seems logical that CP77 should be with us at some point in 2018.

This should be come clearer when the Polish developer starts talking about the game again. Since the debut trailer in 2013, all the game's media accounts have descended into silence. The last tweet recorded on the official CP77 account was in December 2013.

The trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 is now four years old, and was little more than a concept piece. The CG short showed off a futuristic world of human augmentations and hyper-violence, but actually said very little about what to expect.

At this stage the game wasn't in full-blown development, so in fairness to CD Projekt, there wasn't anything to show off anyway.

Are we intrigued by blade arms and bulletproof skin? You bet we are. CD Projekt is a superb world builder, and we're excited to see what its take on cypberpunk dystopias (lower case) will eventually look like.

To this we have no answer. Cyberpunk 2077 will be a AAA RPG, but whether it will come to resemble The Witcher in any way remains unclear. Here are a few facts we're fairly sure of, however:

It will be big. "Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before," CD Projekt VFX artist Jose Teixeira told MCV. Apparently its scale dwarfs that of Geralt's last adventure, which was a whopper in its own right.

It may feature flying cars. Last year CD Projekt was spotted advertising for a coder whose responsibility would be "creating the whole architecture of vehicle-related code and the physics of driving / flying in those vehicles".

It's an open-world, sandbox game. Expect the same, if not greater levels of freedom than those in The Witcher 3.

It's set in Night City. A fictional metropolis on the west coast of America. The location is taken from the Cyberpunk pen and paper RPG.

There will be a multiplayer component. But the focus will still predominantly be on an engaging single-player experience.

Mechanics will be based on the Cyberpunk pen and paper system. But exactly how this will be translated remains to be seen.
