Maryland sports betting was signed into law in May 2021 and looks set to launch at some point in the new year. Find out the latest news on MD sports betting below.

The likes of FanDuel, DraftKings and Monkey Knife Fight are just some of the DFS sites that are currently live in MD, with those in Maryland able to take advantage of these services ahead of sports betting launching in the near future.

Sports betting has been legal in Maryland for a number of months now. Gov. Larry Hogan signed bill HB 940 into law in May 2021, with a list of regulations for sports betting in MD being approved in July 2021.

This came about after Maryland voters approved a ballot to go through with the legalization of sports betting in November 2020. The wheels are now in motion for the eventual legalization of sports betting, most likely in 2022.

A number of high-profile operators are expected to launch their services in MD once the time comes, with the likes of BetMGM, DraftKings and Caesars all reportedly set to apply for licenses so they can launch in the Free state as soon as possible.

Sports betting has now been signed into law in the state of Maryland, with this being the case ever since May 2021, a month that saw bill HB 940 signed into law by Gov. Hogan. However sports betting is yet to launch in MD.

As many as eight different online sportsbooks look set to be made available to wager within Maryland once sports betting is launched throughout the state.

13 different MD casinos have also been allowed sportsbook licenses by the state, with these set to open operations when the time comes.

Despite not having sports betting available in their state at this point in time, those in Maryland are surrounded by a number of states in which sports betting options are currently available.

With sports betting on the verge of going live in Maryland, there are a number of operators who are chomping at the bit to set up shop in the Free state, and with this in mind, were here to go over some of the sports betting sites that could potentially launch in MD in the near future.

BetMGM recently agreed a partnership with Marylands own Baltimore Ravens, with the sportsbook set to be advertised around the Ravens M&T Bank Stadium, a place where we may eventually see MGM betting kiosks and a BetMGM retail sportsbook open up.

An additional retail sportsbook looks set to launch in Forest Heights, allowing those in MD a number of places to wager their money with BetMGM in-person.

Caesars are the current owners of the Baltimore Horseshoe Casino, thus are expected to launch a retail sportsbook on these grounds once sports betting goes live throughout the Free state.

With Caesars also being the official casino partner of the Ravens, they should have little-to-no trouble launching their services in the state when the time comes.

FoxBet is a current sports betting partner with both the MLB and NFL, two leagues which boast teams that are located in Maryland, thus demand for the sportsbook to launch in MD is expected to be relatively high.

Itll be interesting to see when FOX Bet eventually launches in Maryland, a factor that looks almost a given at this point given FOX Bet is heavily linked with one of the country's biggest broadcasting networks.

DraftKings have shown their dedication to helping sports betting become legal in Maryland in the past, with DK pledging $250,000 to the Vote Yes to Question 2 campaign that helped sports betting become legal in the state in the first place.

Given this, itll be somewhat shocking if DraftKings dont open proceedings in the Free state on the day in which sports betting launches.

Similarly to DraftKings, FanDuel also donated to the Vote Yes to Question 2 campaign in MD that helped sports betting become legal in the first place, however FanDuel ended up donating $500,000 instead of $250,000, showing just how committed they are to help sports betting launch in the state.

Theyre already live in a number of states throughout the country in both online and retail formats, thus expect FanDuel to rear their heads in MD once the time comes.

PointsBet has a partnership with the Riverboat on the Potomac, one of Marylands four licensed off-track betting sites in the state, thus they already have partial access to the MD market.

With this in mind, they already seem to have the edge over most of their competitors in the race to launch in Maryland, with it now just seemingly like a matter of time before this becomes a fact.

At this point in time, there are no sports betting options, retail or online, currently live in Maryland, with this being the case despite sports betting being signed into law earlier this year.

This shouldnt be the case for much longer however, with it expected to be up and running by the start of 2022 at the very earliest.

Two additional Maryland casinos, the Hollywood Casino in Perryville and the Ocean Downs Casino in Berlin, have been cleared to offer sports betting when the time comes.

Following this, these two casinos have forwarded their recommendations for how to go about enabling the final steps in MDs attempts to get sportsbooks up and running.

Both the Hollywood and Ocean Downs Casino have now joined the MGM National Harbor and Baltimores Horseshoe Casino in becoming the latest casinos to allow sports betting this month, with more expected to follow in November as we edge closer and closer to sports betting operations opening up in the Free state.

Casino gambling had been legal in Maryland for many years before sports betting was finally signed into law, with this only occurring within the last year or so.

The process of introducing sports betting to MD came about after Maryland voters overwhelmingly supported sports wagering in a general election ballot measure.

Bill HB940 was then passed through Maryland state legislature in April 2021, with Governor Harry Logan signing this bill into law in May 2021, with sports betting now in the final stages of launching in the Free state.
