North Korea confirmed over the weekend that it had tested its biggest ballistic missile in years.

The launch of the Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) was first reported by South Korean and Japanese authorities.

It is the seventh missile test carried out by the North Koreans this month.

Sky News reported that North Korea has previously said the Hwasong-12 can carry a large-size heavy nuclear warhead, and analysts estimate it has a range of 2,800 miles (4,500km).

The Doomsday Clock is a symbol which represents the likelihood of a man-made global catastrophe.

It has existed since 1947 and is maintained by the members of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists' Science and Security Board.

During the cold war it was used as an analogy for the chances of global nuclear holocaust.

With midnight representing a global catastrophe and the minutes to midnight representing how close the world is to it.

While originally referring to a nuclear apocalypse - the Doomsday clock also now includes climate change as part of the global catastrophe.

What is the current minutes to midnight?

In January 2020, the clock was moved to 100 seconds to midnight and it remains at that level.

This is the closest the Doomsday Clock has been to midnight since 1953 - when the hands were also at 2.

The furthest it has been from midnight was 17 - following the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War.

However the closest the world came to a Nuclear War was the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 - but that climax and resolved before the minutes could be changed.

Does the Doomsday Clock predict WW3?

No the clock isnt a predictor of the chances of World War Three just the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists' Science and Security Boards belief of how close the world is to a global man-made catastrophe.

When deciding on the minutes to midnight for any given year they consider a wide range of factors which might include Politics, Energy, Weapons, Diplomacy, and Climate science.

With potential threats including nuclear threats, climate change, bio-terrorism, and artificial intelligence.

Explosions have been reported across the country through the night.

It comes days after Russia recognised two separatist regions in the east of Ukraine.

The invasion of the country by Russia could flare tensions between the nation and the west.

However of course despite this the chances of WW3 remain extremely slim although the Doomsday Clock, which tracks the possibility of the end of the World, is at two minutes to midnight, the closest approach to midnight, matching that of 1953.

The News previously revealed a hit list of Russian targets in the UK in the event of a nuclear attack from the Soviet Union during Cold War.

Cold War predictions drawn up in secret by the British government reveal the extent of a Russian nuclear strike on the UK.

Portsmouth's Naval Base was on the list of target.

At the height of nuclear tensions in the 1970s and 80s, at least 38 towns and cities were feared to be at risk from a strike from the Soviet Union and Portsmouth was one of the key targets.

Dozens of army, navy and air force bases were also earmarked for destruction, with Portsmouth Naval Base topping the list of strategic targets.

The city is home to a majority of the Royal Navys fleet, as well as the Senior Services HQ where much of its top brass are located.

Bases in nearby Gosport and Fareham also house thousands sailors.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously made no secret of the fact he is willing to use nukes and relations between the UK and Russia have reached new lows over the poisoning of Sergei Skripal as fears of a new Cold War grow.

UK defence officials drew up a list of 106 locations they believed were a target for Russia marking them as probable nuclear targets.

Alongside these major population centres were 23 RAF bases, 14 USAF bases, 10 radar stations, eight military command centres, and 13 Royal Navy bases.

It is not known if the list of probable targets has changed since the Cold War.

Mark Petchey says now that everyone knows the clear position of Novak Djokovic and tournaments it's time to switch focus to other more important things. On Tuesday, the BBC released an interview they conducted with Djokovic.

In his interview with the BBC, Djokovic confirmed that he is still unvaccinated and said that he is ready to skip tournaments over the vaccine. Djokovic has made it clear he doesn't plan to take the vaccine just for the sake of being allowed to compete in all events.

"@DjokerNole has made his views very clear. The rules of each country are now very clear on what you need to be to compete. Nothing else to say. So lets now perhaps focus on WW3 not happening because none of us need worry about Covid anymore if that starts," Petchey wrote on Twitter.

"I was never against vaccination, but I've always supported the freedom to choose what you put in your body," Djokovic told the BBC.

Djokovic says his health and well-being is more important than the all-time Grand Slam record. "Because the principles of decision making on my body are more important than any title or anything else. I'm trying to be in tune with my body as much as I possibly can," Djokovic explained.

Djokovic insists he is not against vaccination but he just wants to have the freedom of choice. "I was never against vaccination. I understand that globally, everyone is trying to put a big effort into handling this virus and seeing, hopefully, an end soon to this virus," Djokovic insisted.

Also, Djokovic recalled being detained and interrogated by the Australian Border Force. "It was very, very hard. While I was still at the airport, I couldn't use my phone for three, four hours. I was lost, really, I didn't know what was happening," Djokovic admitted.

RUSSIA has accused a US submarine of violating its waters - with Putin pushing the West to the brink of World War Three in Ukraine.

Russia's Ministry of Defence has said a Virginia-class submarine entered its territorial waters around Urup - and ignored demands for it to surface.

According to reports, the submarine left the area after "special measures" were deployed by the Russian navy.

The ministry said it had summoned the US defence attache in Moscow over the incident.

Virginia-class submarines are mostly used for anti-submarine warfare and intelligence gathering operations.

The US navy ships are nuclear-poweredcruise missilefast-attack submarines.

The underwater warships allegedly crossed into waters near the Kuril Islands in the Pacific - where Russia has been carrying out military preparedness drills.

The Pacific chain of islands, which were taken over by the Soviet Union at the end of World War Two is also claimed byJapan.

Russias last round of Kuril drills took place in November last year.

It comes as America has vowed a "resolute and massive" response to a Russian invasion of Ukraine after reports it could happen on Wednesday.

The warning from U.S Secretary of State Anthony Blinken come during a phone call with his Russian counterpart, in the wake of fears an invasion is imminent.

US embassy staff have now been told to evacuate Ukraine as the 6000 Brits living there were also urged to leave immediately amid growing fears a Russian attack would shut down airspace.

New intelligence now suggests Russia will invade Ukraine this Wednesday, February 16, according to German newspaper Der Spiegel.

Information received by the Secret Service, CIA and other intelligence services has even gone as far to outline the routes that individual Russian units will take, along with the roles they will play, it reports.

Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin are set to discuss the crisis today but ahead of that Blinken spoke to Sergei Lavrov.

"I spoke with Foreign Minister Lavrov today to urge a diplomatic resolution to Russias unprovoked military build-up around Ukraine," Blinken tweet afterwards.

"I reiterated that further Russian aggression would be met with a resolute, massive, and united Transatlantic response."

But in response Lavrov accused the United States of seeking to provoke a conflict in Ukraine, during a call with his US counterpart Antony Blinken.

Their talks come after U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said Washington believes Putin could strike any day.

It was previously widely believed Russia would not attack before the end of the Winter Olympics on February 20 but the latest intelligence reports have cast doubt on that.

The imminent threat follows weeks of growing tension as Vladimir Putins build-up of troops and tanks continue to threaten Ukraine.

Sullivan echoed President Biden's call for "all American citizens who remain in Ukraine to depart immediately".

"We want to be crystal clear on this point. Any American in Ukraine should leave as soon as possible and in any event in the next 24 to 48 hours.

"The risk is now high enough and the threat is now immediate enough that this is what prudence demands.

"If you stay you are assuming risk, with no guarantee that there will be any other opportunity to leave and there is no prospect of a U.S. military evacuation in the event of a Russian invasion."

Last night, Brits were warned to leave Ukraine immediately as the imminent threat of war loomed.

Mr Sullivan said an attack would likely begin with aerial bombing and missile strikes, which would shut down transportation by air, rail, and roads.

His fears were echoed by MP Tobias Ellwood, chair of the House of Commons Defence Select Committee, who also said war was "inevitable".

Russia has been deploying military troops to the Ukraine border as Nato begins beefing up its own forces in the area.

Pentagon said it would send 3,000 combat troops from Fort Bragg,North Carolina, to Poland to join 1,700 troops assembling there.
