Horrible Bosses star standing tall in Hollywood

Posted: December 25, 2014 at 4:42 am

At a time when more Hollywood comedians are flaunting their loudness and lewdness, Jason Sudeikis' rise to stardom seems remarkably understated and subdued.

Sure, there have been public romances with leading actresses (Sudeikis previously dated Mad Men's January Jones and he is now happily ensconced with Olivia Wilde and their 7-month-old son Otis).

But, unlike many of his peers, Sudeikis hasn't had to apologise for politically incorrect rants that went viral, or launched a war on Twitter.

He is never asked about any similarities between himself and the screwed-up characters he plays on screen - whether it's a family man going off the rails in Hall Pass or a small-time drug dealer in We're the Millers - for good reason.

Sudeikis, 39, is now one of the hottest properties in Hollywood, having featured in four films that have grossed more than US$200 million ($258 million) worldwide in the past six years.

He possesses a boyish, goofy comedic appeal, his relaxed mien enhanced by the fact that he's a late developer by Hollywood standards - he only acted in his first film in 2007.

Sudeikis' new film, Horrible Bosses 2, is hardly understated or subdued. Horrible Bosses was a 2011 black comedy in which a trio of bitter workers played by Sudeikis, Jason Bateman and Charlie Day murdered their tyrannical managers.

Most of the starry supporting players return for the sequel - Jennifer Aniston as a sex-crazed dentist, Kevin Spacey as a psychopathic CEO and Jamie Foxx as the ex-con "murder consultant".

Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz is a millionaire investor who steals the workers' money.

The success of Horrible Bosses took Hollywood off-guard, tapping into audiences' own experiences with micro-managing superiors in the workplace.

A White Christmas

Posted: at 4:42 am

I recently heard that White Christmas is now politically incorrect.

Bing rolls over in his grave. How foolish.

White Christmas is not about skin color, but about snow, which is white. I am praying for each of you who read this, a white Christmas, even if it doesnt snow on this or any Christmas. Here is what I mean.

If you come to church at Immanuel at Christmas you will see that the cloths that decorate the altar have turned to white. White is the color of holiness, purity, and the absence of that which makes unclean. That is not a description of us, even at Christmas.

The pressures that surround this season often bring out the worst in people. As someone recently said, We dont have a skin problem. We have a sin problem. White is the color that reflects the perfect, sinless Son of God born into our world of sin, to buy it back with the price of His own suffering and death.

What is most remarkable is that what this Christmas Child would do on the cross makes us white (Dont Think Skin Color!).

Christs suffering, death and resurrection makes us sinless, holy and perfect in the eyes of our God. The Christmas prophet Isaiah wrote: Though your sin (not skin!) is like scarlet, it shall be white as snow. A Norman Rockwell, Bing Crosby, White Christmas would be nice for a moment or two. The White (forgiven, at peace with God and man, declared holy) Christmas that comes from this Child whose birth we celebrate again this year, who was born to die and rise for us, gives to us a White Christmas forever.

No need to dream of a White Christmas. It is Gods gift to you in His Son. I am

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Mark Bangert

Unexpected Christmas miracles

Posted: December 23, 2014 at 7:46 pm

Dad used to tell us his favorite Christmas story. In the boiling Pacific of World War II, Dad was on USS Cleveland and saw the intensity of naval warfare at places such as Midway, Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal and Manila.

On Christmas Eve, 1944, the men got good news: A priest would come aboard for Midnight Mass! Dad would recall how they sure needed the good news of the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, during those clashing days.

But, when the priest arrived for Mass, the hundreds of gathered, expectant sailors began to growl, Hes a Jap! (to use the politically incorrect word of that time).

Dad would tell us that, although they would later learn he was actually a Filipino priest, the understandable hostility of the war still led the men to grumble, as they wondered about the worthiness of this Oriental (to use another outdated term) to offer Mass.

Some started to rise in protest to walk out.

But ... then came O Come All Ye Faithful; then came the sign of the cross; then the gospel of the first Christmas, and the suspect priests simple and sincere sermon of love for family at home and longing for peace on earth and sea; then came prayer and Holy Communion; finally came the priests blessing and Silent Night, with men crying and hugging, and the Jap priest cheered and engulfed with affection as he left the ship to visit another awaiting congregation.

Prejudice, hatred, suspicion and antagonism were changed into love, acceptance and joy on USS Cleveland. Thats the miracle of Christmas!

Deep within us weve got both darkness and light, hate and love, fear and hope. For at least a little while each year, thanks to the miracle of Christmas, the good side wins!

Do we ever need that miracle now, as we are tense with Staten Island, Ferguson, Bedford-Stuyvesant, ISIS and Boko Haram, broken families and forgotten children, scary forecasts and a worrisome economy, police officers under attack.

The angel speaks to us as to the shepherds at Bethlehem, Be not afraid!

TODD STARNES: Hey, ill-tempered atheist Hands off the baby Jesus, step away from the manger

Posted: December 22, 2014 at 9:43 pm

My atheist readers should prepare to have their egg nog curdled because Im about to reveal something thats politically incorrect.

I believe that Jesus is the reason for the season and that makes me about as politically incorrect as they come especially among our nations ill-tempered atheists.

I made that revelation in my upcoming Fox News Radio special, The Todd Starnes All-American Christmas set to air on Christmas Eve.

Ive often wondered why folks like the Freedom From Religion Foundation get their Christmas stockings in a twist at the mere mention of the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes.

Maybe all they got for Christmas one year was a package of underwear and a can of Aunt Ednas fruit cake?

CLICK HERE TO FOLLOW TODD ON FACEBOOK FOR CONSERVATIVE CONVERSATION!

Whats even more bizarre is how they get so worked up over something they dont even believe is real. Im no psychologist but Im sure theres a clinical term for such a condition.

Nevertheless, the atheists have sworn some sort of oath to push Christmas celebrations underground. Away with the Manger seems to be their battle cry.

Their modus operandi has traditionally been to target small towns and bully City Hall and the public school system. They mail nasty letters and threaten them with lawsuits.

Sarah Palin talked about the assault on Christmas during my upcoming Fox Radio Christmas special.
