Ben Shapiro blames Philip Seymour Hoffman's death on 'broken leftist culture'

NEW YORK, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro penned a blog post on the National Reviews website where he blamed the death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman on the broken leftist culture that dominates Hollywood.

Hoffman was found dead on Sunday in his Manhattan apartment from an apparent heroin overdose.

Shapiro was complimentary of Hoffmans skills, calling him one of the most talented actors of his generation, a leading man without leading-man looks, an actor whose magnetism onscreen sprang from intelligence and fervor rather than appearance.

He then quickly changed gears to rip the culture in Hollywood.

Libertarianism becomes libertinism without a cultural force pushing back against the penchant for sin; Hollywood has no such cultural force, Shapiro wrote. In fact, the Hollywood demand is for more self-abasement, less spirituality, less principle, less standards.

The 46-year-old actor starred in films including Capote, Almost Famous and Boogie Nights.

The post concluded:

No one knows what sort of demons plagued Seymour Hoffman. But without a sound moral structure around those in Hollywood who have every financial and talent advantage, the path to destruction is far too easy.

Writing for the Atlantic Council, a prominent think tank based in Washington DC, Harlan K. Ullman warns that an extraordinary crisis is needed to preserve the new world order, which is under threat of being derailed by non-state actors like Edward Snowden, writes News Watch.

In an article entitled War on Terror Is not the Only Threat, Ullman asserts that, tectonic changes are reshaping the international geostrategic system, arguing that its not military superpowers like China but non-state actors like Edward Snowden, Bradley Manning and anonymous hackers who pose the biggest threat to the 365 year-old Westphalian system because they are encouraging individuals to become self-empowered, eviscerating state control.

Very few have taken note and fewer have acted on this realization, notes Ullman, lamenting that information revolution and instantaneous global communications are thwarting the new world order announced by U.S. President George H.W. Bush more than two decades ago.

Without an extraordinary crisis, little is likely to be done to reverse or limit the damage imposed by failed or failing governance, writes Ullman, implying that only another 9/11-style cataclysm will enable the state to re-assert its dominance while containing, reducing and eliminating the dangers posed by newly empowered non-state actors.

Ullman concludes that the elimination of non-state actors and empowered individuals must be done in order to preserve the new world order. A summary of their material suggests that the Atlantic Councils definition of a new world order is a global technocracy run by a fusion of big government and big business under which individuality is replaced by transhumanist singularity.

Ullmans rhetoric sounds somewhat similar to that espoused by Trilateral Commission co-founder and regular Bilderberg attendee Zbigniew Brzezinski, who in 2010 told a Council on Foreign Relations meeting that a global political awakening, in combination with infighting amongst the elite, was threatening to derail the move towards a one world government.

Ullmans implied call for an extraordinary crisis to reinvigorate support for state power and big government has eerie shades of the Project For a New American Centurys 1997 lament that absent some catastrophic catalyzing event like a new Pearl Harbor, an expansion of U.S. militarism would have been impossible.

In 2012, Patrick Clawson, member of the influential pro-Israel Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP) think tank, also suggested that the United States should launch a staged provocation to start a war with Iran.

Ullmans concern over failing state institutions having their influence eroded by empowered individuals, primarily via the Internet, is yet another sign that the elite is panicking over the global political awakening that has most recently expressed itself via the actions of people like Edward Snowden, Julian Assange, Bradley Manning and their growing legion of supporters.

Being Human: Panic Womb

[This is a review ofBeing Humanseason 4, episode 4. There will be SPOILERS.]

On the surface, last nights episode ofBeing Humancould be described as a bit talky and maybe even dull. There was the return of yet another old friend in the form of Zoe (the ghost seeing nurse), but no witchcraft, Donna, or time jumps. Josh didnt completely wolf-out and Aidan mostly worried about his feelings. Down deep, though, Panic Womb felt like a game-changer that pushed the main characters to really face who and what they are.

For Aidan, it seemed as if a romantic re-connection with his long-lost wife Suzanna was in the cards at the beginning of this season due to their shared history and Aidans centuries long ache over having lost her to a group of fretting villagers who thought her a witch after he returned from the war with light in his eyes after having been seen dead. After it was revealed last week that Suzanna had single-handedly attacked Kennys blood den, though, it seemed as if that connection was unlikely at best, but now it seems to be completely off the table, and that is a credit to the writers who are clearly trying to make the Aidan and Kat relationship work while passing over some pretty fertile creative real estate.

As is the case with all relationships that Aidan has, though, the lie that is his human life stands in the way of true honesty, especially since he already had to have Kat compelled early on something that still haunts him, especially as he prepares to tell Kat the truth about what he is, partially in response to Suzannas proclamation that he is doomed to never truly live as a human.

From the start of the series, Aidan has been defined as a vampire desperately trying to exercise self-control. There have been notable slip-ups, but for the most part, he has tried to re-enter the human race and he has lived a good (yet complicated) life. Is it good enough to earn the 10 years of a normal life that he tells Suzanna that he wants? Well have to wait and see.

Josh is also behaving himself, trying to fight off the wolf with physical fitness (theres a PSA in there somewhere). While on a ten mile run, though, he sniffs out a pregnant werewolf (Caroline) and the two quickly strike up a trust that is sturdy enough for the woman to meet up with Josh and Nora at the hospital with her husband Andrew to have an ultrasound. Its not completely bizarre to see Josh go out of his way to help another, but after the flurry of changes that he has gone through, its also fair to wonder if the paternal side of the pure-bread wolf is coming out.

Regardless, the couple exitthe hospital after some scary findings only to return to the house later after Carolines water has broken. After a bit, the baby is born successfully, leaving Josh and Nora longing to have their own were-baby.
