Why DJs from around the world are suddenly flocking to Israel – Haaretz

Posted: November 11, 2021 at 5:27 pm

Canadian DJ Spacey Koala is excited to be back at the turn tables, playing for Israeli audiences, after a year without night clubs or parties. My favorite moment at a party is when my inner animal emerges, when I see how this music gives people a spiritual high.

Koala, aka Francois Clavet, specializes in psychedelic trance, and played at last weekends Desert Bass festival in the Arava desert. Hes one of the many international DJs landing in Israel in recent weeks for a flurry of activity that spans the broad range of styles between house and trance, and transcends the narrow boundaries of the Tel Aviv party scene.

Along with Midburn the Israeli version of the Burning Man festival, and one of the most important events for electronic music lovers in Israel October saw a slew of events: Mind Against and Dixon & Ame performed at the Yarkon National Park in Ramat Gan, Boris Brejcha staged Live Park in Rishon Letzion, Marcus Worgull came to the Forum club in Beer Sheva and Roman Flugel deejayed at The Block in Tel Aviv.

The airlift is ongoing: On Thursday two international duos will be coming to the Forum: the Italian duo Mathame and the Mexican duo ostil. Romanian DJ Herck will visit Israel again to play at The Block on Friday, November 12. French duo Polo & Pan will be coming for two performances at Havat Shalem, on November 12 and 13.

German DJ Boris (Dolinski) says electronic music is flourishing because of its profound ability to bring people together. Heis a regular musical guest at The Block, where he performed last weekend, like many of his colleagues. He was glad to be back in the DJs natural environment, on the dance floor, after a year stuck at home during lockdowns.

The thing that I missed most is when people understand what Im trying to express with my music, he says. I recorded sets during the pandemic, but its not the same. The camera doesnt give feedback, but people do.

The Israeli audience has an enthusiastic love of beats and is open to innovation, which is perhaps why DJs from all over the world flock to Israel. The culture of electronic music as entertainment was widely developed here even before it ever caught on in the mainstream, says Elad Kord, one of the producers of Desert Bass, the manager of a Facebook community dedicated to electronic culture and himself a DJ.

There were already raves in Tel Aviv by the 1980s, and in the 1990s the Love Parade festival took off. It stemmed from the Israelis need or ability to open up. Electronic culture existed even before the culture of fine liquor or foodies. Theres openness in the Israeli public, a sense of acceptance, Kord says.

Acceptance is a word that cropped up repeatedly in all the interviews for this article. The DJs raved about the welcoming they receive from Israeli audiences, who embrace unfamiliar musical worlds. Koala says that of all the places he has performed, he has never felt love like that of an Israeli audience.

Many speculate that the longstanding popularity of the electronic scene is a product of the prolonged post-trauma of Israeli life helping ravers release the frustrations amassed through military service and life in the Middle East. The raging beats presumably offer a necessary release and escapism.

Kord rejects this explanation, instead attributing the popularity of the electronic scene to an element of Mizrahi culture, characteristic of Jews from North Africa and the Middle East: the hafla (the Arabic word for celebration). Kord says that as Mizrahi culture made its way into the mainstream, so did the desire for collective ecstatic experiences. Theres clear joie de vivre in Israeli culture, he says. Theres a culture of joy, togetherness. Over the years, as Mizrahi culture became more prevalent, Israelis became more capable of celebrating in a popular, lighthearted way.

Not like Shlomo Artzi

To a great extent, the development of the electronic scene is thanks to active cooperation among its leaders. Were in a moment of blossoming after a long period of drought, says Kord. For example, in all the variations of the bass scene, downtempo and glitch hop. It expands our audience, elevates the genre and the scene as a whole. Theres a lot of cooperation among us we coordinate dates and artists, and dont cross into one anothers territory. The production heads communicate, spend time together, and play on the same stages.

Theres been a very strong wave of electronic and techno music in recent years, in line with whats happening all over the world, says Guy Dreifuss, who produces lines of electronic festivals, including the DGTL Festival. Israelis like to celebrate, to have a good time. The audience is very varied, from all over the country, and all ages: 18 to 60.

He adds that Israel is a popular destination for international artists: The boycott, divestment and sanctions movement is less evident in our scene, although there are opponents, and the last spat was very damaging in terms of global public opinion. But in contrast to bands, maybe, DJs ask and want to understand whats going on.

The dominance of Israeli artists in the electronic music world also contributes to Israels status as a powerhouse in the field. Koala excitedly recounts that Infected Mushroom was his first and life-changing encounter with electronic music. Maybe its kitschy to say that I grew up on Infected Mushroom, people like to criticize them because theyre popular, he says. [Their music] was the first time that I heard the connection between computers and music.

Israeli event producers are still in a precarious position, as they recover from the losses and uncertainty of a year without gatherings. Theres both economic uncertainty and a surfeit of events. The supply is greater than the demand, Kord says. The new coronavirus policy is characterized by complicated bureaucracy, a great deal of financial risk and lack of clarity.

Are you able to make a living?

None of us are building villas or buying luxury cars. We all have this unshakeable bug. In most cases, the producers refer to it as a burden: You know that youre a little screwed up, that theres a Robin Hood complex here or a philanthropic movement, a community confronting an establishment thats hard to work with.

Among other things, Kord describes the spike in supervision amid COVID-19 regulations and rising prices of suppliers, who are also trying to recoup after a year without work. Under the current regulations, audience members must show a Green Pass at the entrance or a negative coronavirus test. Events are limited to 1,000 people in enclosed spaces, and up to 5,000 outdoors. At events in closed spaces and gatherings of over 100 people outdoors, everyone is required to wear a mask. In addition, producers must appoint an inspector who is responsible for enforcing regulations.

And still, we have a lot of events, says Kord, encouraged. Were one of the first countries in the world to let artists in. Although its under a system of laws that I dont agree with, we benefit.

The producers are careful not to question the Green Pass policy, despite their misgivings. Theres a major conflict among producers regarding holding events under the Green Pass system, says Kord cautiously. In the electronic scene, the proportion of people who support the Green Pass policy is pretty different from, say, the audience at a Shlomo Artzi concert. Many raves and electronic events encourage a culture of freedom, unity and refuge. Suddenly theres this other element a document that determines who can or cant enter, which doesnt conform with the basic values of the scene.

According to DJ Boris, frequent COVID-19 tests are a small price to pay. We have to deal with it like this, at the moment, and be responsible for everyone who attends our parties, he says. Its our responsibility. Without health theres no way to live. Unfortunately, in Germany theres a large movement of people who oppose the vaccines, but it stems from lack of information. There are no absolute solutions, because weve never been in this situation before. Of course there are some people who oppose it, but we have to try and change their minds. Its always difficult, but all you need is an attentive ear and open heart.

PREMIERE: Chris Giuliano -Off The Wall [Anjunabeats] – The Groove Cartel

Posted: at 5:27 pm

With Off The Wall, Chris Giulianos third release of 2021, the DJ/producer is back on the release radar. It follows the acclaimed powerhouses August hit with Natalie Major, Running With The Wind, as well as his reworks of Airo and Robert Bs The Distant and Dan Stones Back To You. Now on an exclusive first listen on our blog, Off The Wall will be available across all streaming platforms from tomorrow via Anjunabeats.

The thumping track begins with a pulsating, speaker-shattering bass that adds an atmospheric touch while teasing the impending massively colossal production that will soon follow. Following that, a catchy beat and an enticing four-on-the-floor rhythm trickle in. As the buildup progresses, a palpable sense of tension grows with each passing second. The imminent hefty drop is monumental in scope, audibly taking up much of the sonic space with its fiercely relentless intensity. Midway through the song, the tempo slows down, and heady trance elements take over. The euphoric four-on-the-floor excursion reintroduces the propulsive, rolling barrage of bass once more, rounding out the anthemic release with extraordinary energy unlike anything heard before. Overall, Giulianos latest release is an enthralling original production that is a welcome addition to the Anjunabeats label.

I crafted this tastefully-unusual, genre-bending tune for the peak time main stage. High-energy and fun, its aimed for the electronic music community to proverbially let their hair down and truly appreciate and enjoy the moment. Chris Giuliano

Chris Giuliano is a Los Angeles native who has been producing his own distinct brand of electronic dance music since his Black Hole Recordings debut in 2015, a remix of Ad Brown and Frida Harnesks When Stars Align. Over the years, the multifaceted, genre-bending artist has released music on respected labels such as Armada Music, Enhanced, and, most recently, Anjunabeats. The Beatport chart-topping act also co-founded AHC Studios in Los Angeles, a post-production studio that focuses on creating high-quality content with its artists.

Off The Wall has recently received a lot of positive feedback after being performed at Above & Beyonds coveted milestone event ABGT450, which showcases the best of the imprints work.

With the backing of industry heavyweights such as Above & Beyond and Armin van Buuren, the pioneering trailblazer is positioning himself as an artist to watch in the second half of the year and beyond.

Oktocho Will Perform Transcestral Concert at the Outremont Theatre This Month – Broadway World

Posted: at 5:27 pm

Oktocho presents the concert Transcestral, on November 27, at 8 pm, at the Outremont Theatre.

An original creation of the Oktocho ensemble, the event brings together 15 artists, singers, dancers, and poets from different backgrounds: six indigenous and Sufi communities are represented as well as musicians from jazz, classical and contemporary music.

Transcestral weaves together the sacred ancestral traditions of Sufi trance music and indigenous music from Canada. It is a true hymn to life, highlighting our perpetual quest for harmony and communion with nature.

Known for their unique musical contributions, rich in poetic lyricism and inspired by their ancestral lineages, innu poet Josephine Bacon, Sufi singer Anouar Barrada, Mtis singer Moe Clark, Inuit throat singer Nina Segalowitz and powwow singers Buffalo Hat Singers (Norman Achneepineskum), along with Yoreme Indigenous dancer Sam Ojeda, and 10-year-old whilring dervish, Adam Barrada, create a striking blend of musical counterpoint under the artistic direction of Katia Makdissi-Warren.

"Although our music is not sacred, it is inspired by ceremonial music. The commonalities such as Earth, Healing, Tribute are at the heart of Transcestral," Makdissi-Warren and Clark explain.

The purpose of this music is to highlight the state of trance, more particularly, the state between trance and awakening. Within the Indigenous and Sufi cultures, there is a word for this state of ecstasy that lies between the state of consciousness and trance. Among the Sufis, it is called the Tarab. In the Anishinaabemowin language, it is called NWNSHN BUNN-GEE ET-WAWA NAEN DA-MN.

Starting November 15th, across all digital platforms, discover three tracks from the album Transcestral :

The full album will be released in January 2022.

To those who are perhaps more spiritually inclined, the figure 111111 (the date, month and specific hour) is a divine occurrence one that is being celebrated in unique fashion at the three-day-long One Festival in Mpumalanga, which features the theme of oneness and unity.

This festival is a trance festival, which is aimed at the more liberal and free thinkers who rage against the dying of the night to the sound of drum and bass and techno.

The festival is held in Kaapsehoop, which happens to be on the same line of longitude as the Great Pyramids of Giza and the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, and home of Adams Calendar an arrangement of stones that is believed to be one of the oldest man-made structures on Earth.

This once-in-a-lifetime event was inspired by the unique moment at 11:11:11 on 11/11/11 when the time and the date are all one. We are all one in our humanity, and we aim to bring attention to what we have in common, rather than what separates us. Join us to become part of a unifying global event in a real and meaningful way.

Thats the description of this event on its Facebook page. The festival boasts three dance floors, crystal caves, forests, pyramids of light and mountains as some of the attractions you can indulge in.

Co-creator of the festival, Roman Sergey Potgieter, explains: One Festival has been happening for the last 10 years. The significance of this festival for us is basically the connection of one."

In numerology, if youve ever come across 1111 and it appeals to you or draws you in then you would definitely find this festival appealing. The connection of oneness and with nature and with all the beautiful things we see as divine and that brings us together.

But what about partying on such hallowed grounds?

Sangoma and Celtic druid/wizard Stuart Snawrquitrafretis Turquoise Mathoka Davies, who has been working in and around sacred sites in Mpumalanga since 2016, says: We can see so many beautiful geological phenomena when we enter into places like Barberton, when we delve deeper and begin to unfold potentialities and stories of what could have happened in the Barberton crater. Whether it was a volcanic incident, whether it was a meteoric incident, whether this was a connection to our ancient ancestors in the stars this is something that is up to the individual to decide, and for the individual to experience through connecting with the sacred places on this land.

10 WandaVision Moments That Changed the MCU Forever – MovieWeb

Posted: at 5:27 pm

Marvel's critically acclaimed Disney+ miniseries features an all-star cast including Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany. Even juicier than the performances were the shocking moments that shook the Marvel Cinematic Universe indefinitely. WandaVision may rely heavily on the sitcom format early on, but we quickly learn it's not all physical comedy and clever jokes.

Instead, the viral series can often turn dark and even tragic. MCU fans know the love story of Wanda (Olsen) and Vision (Bettany) and how it came to an end, so no one knew exactly what was going to happen in WandaVision. The series ended up producing some of the biggest twists in Marvel history. Let's dive into what happened inside and out of Wanda's world.

The commercials - one per episode - all include references to other events, things, and people within the MCU. Therefore, each cheeky cutaway offers a glimpse into either Marvel's past or what's to come. The first commercial features a toaster made by Tony Stark's company, which also built the bomb that killed Wanda's parents when she was 10.

The fake ad in episode 2 focuses on a watch from the company "Strcker," which references the Hydra operative who kidnapped both Wanda and Pietro. In episode 3, the product is a Hydra Soak, for "when you want to get away, but you don't want to go anywhere." This could be referencing Wanda's predicament at the time.

In episode 5, the product is a brand of paper towels called "Lagos," with the tagline, "For when you make a mess you didn't mean to." This alludes to Wanda's accident during the Avengers mission in Lagos, which happened during Captain America: Civil War. In episode 6, we see a desperate boy stranded on a desert island. At that time during the WandaVision storyline, Wanda is similarly desperate and would do anything to get Vision and Pietro back.

And lastly, in episode 7, there is a commercial for Nexus, "a unique antidepressant that works to anchor you back to your reality, or the reality of your choice." We later witness Wanda using the product herself to cope with everything.

There was always only one way this could all end: Wanda having to let go of the life she built in Westview. In the series finale, after learning that removing the Westview Hex means that Vision, Billy, and Tommy will all be destroyed, Wanda makes the difficult decision to remove the barrier. This means the end of her husband and two sons. The scene still has hope, however, that someday they might be reunited. The scene after the credits offers even more hope: Wanda hears her sons calling to her, likely setting up their return to the Marvel universe.

In that infamous fifth episode of WandaVision, S.W.O.R.D. reveals footage of Scarlet Witch, AKA Wanda, "dishonorably" stealing Vision's body from them - but she might've actually been saving him. As Jimmy pointed out, that would put her in direct violation of the Sokovia Accords. Equally, added Hayward, it went against Vision's own living will. As such, he remained determined to view her as nothing but a hostile to be taken out. However, there is much to suggest that Hayward might not have been telling the whole truth and that Wanda's actions may have actually been part of a rescue mission.

Though many had expected the reveal since Kathryn Hahn (The Shrink Next Door) was cast as simply a "nosy neighbor" named Agnes, it took seven episodes for the show to finally reveal its true villain. Wanda quickly went from being the all-powerful witch who was terrorizing all of Westview to becoming a victim herself, subject to the manipulation of another witch named Agatha Harkness. Suddenly, Wanda went from the creator of her own TV series to just another actor playing a role in one.

Hayward from S.W.O.R.D. is also responsible for urging Monica Rambeau (played by Teyonah Parris, whose career took off with Mad Men) to investigate the mysterious energy field surrounding the town of Westview, which was under the control of Wanda. Having acquired several traces of Wanda's magic to resurrect Vision, Hayward intended to have Wanda and her family killed to cover up the Westview Anomaly. However, his plans were foiled by Jimmy Woo (Randall Park from Fresh Off the Boat) and Darcy Lewis (Dennings).

Once Wanda kicks Monica out of Westview, she becomes determined to help Wanda. In episode 6, while talking to Darcy and Jimmy, Monica admits she understands Wanda because she knows how she feels. At this moment, Monica's eyes reveal that she's broken over her mother's death. She must be strong because there is a greater purpose right now.

Monica learns, however, that returning to Westview could have dire consequences because it's affecting her cells on a molecular level. In the WandaVision series finale, she still takes that risk. Luckily, it turns her into a superhero, but going back to Westview could have killed her.

The tension rises when we learn of Hayward's main project, which revolved around rebuilding Vision as a weapon. White Vision, as it came to be known, is a rebuilt "synthezoid" of the same name, whose body was reactivated by S.W.O.R.D. Having been given his mission to destroy Wanda and her recreated Vision, White Vision was challenged on his own identity, and after acquiring Vision's memories, declared himself to be the true Vision, before departing. In episode 8, we're treated to a glimpse of the all-white Vision in a thrilling mid-credits sequence, and the stakes escalate from there.

WandaVision episode 4 effectively introduced the Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division, a SHIELD-analogue agency whose very existence is a closely guarded secret. Their role is, traditionally, to protect the Earth from extraterrestrial threats.

Tyler Hayward (played by Josh Stamberg, memorable in The Affair) is the high-ranking S.W.O.R.D. operative who we quickly meet upon learning of the organization. He was promoted to director after the death of Maria Rambeau (played by Lashana Lynch, so good as the new 007 in No Time to Die), whose daughter Monica will be discussed later in this article. In his tenure, Hayward focused S.W.O.R.D.'s efforts from their extraterrestrial operations onto robotics, nanotechnologies, and artificial intelligence.

Another big reveal also comes in episode 5 when Pietro Maximoff - from a completely different film franchise - enters the picture. As Dr. Darcy Lewis (played by Kat Dennings from 2 Broke Girls) notes, Pietro has been recast. Quicksilver is no longer being played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron). Instead, it's Evan Peters (Emmy-winner for Mare of Easttown) who shows up at Wanda's doorstep in the episode's closing moments. Quicksilver is walking back into his sister's life, years after his death, and at the same time, the X-Men are finally entering the MCU.

Earlier in that fifth episode, however, Vision had to act quickly in his office setting when Norm inadvertently exposed himself to the dark reality. As Norm begins to read that fishy email out loud, the entire office chimes in without warning, reading along with him as he goes through the secret communication from S.W.O.R.D. that references the "Maximoff Anomaly." Vision presses his fingers against the computer, zapping away the email, before turning to Norm to do the same.

Awakened from his sitcom trance, the man who's actually named Abilash Tandon frantically begs for help. Abilash has no idea how long he's been under Wanda's control and quickly looks for his phone to contact his sister. Vision tries to calm him down, but Abilash starts to yell about someone being inside his head. Vision presses his fingers back against Abilash's temples, reverting him into the clueless Norm. Vision's stakes - and suspicions - were certainly raised in this dramatic scene, to say the least!

It was during the show's landmark fifth episode when Vision's suspicions about Wanda and their picturesque life together really grew. And it all finally comes to a head when he returns to his office for the first time since the premiere episode. Outside of Wanda's view, he figures out the mystery at last. With his employer having upgraded its technology, Vision helps his friendly coworker "Norm" (played by Asif Ali) test out the internet on his computer. After dialing it up, they find a very revealing email waiting for them... And at the end of that episode, Vision has a climactic confrontation with Wanda, which ultimately threatens Wanda's own "visions" of the future.

Akhanda title song is a high-octane anthem – The Indian Express

Posted: at 1:48 pm

Music composer S Thaman unveiled the title song of Akhanda on Monday. THE MIGHTY ROAR FROM #AKHANDA IS HERE. #AkhandaTitleSong Will Take U to the Trance of the film. #NBK gaaru & #BoyapatiSreenu gaaru made the film #Akhanda very very big. Here is #AkhandaTitleSong #AkhandaMusicalRoar Earphones MUST, he wrote on social media.

The song is crooned by Shankar Mahadevan, Siddharth Mahadevan and Shivam Mahadevan. The Thaman composition boasts of ethnic and western beats, and it leaves an impression of listening to a high-octane anthem rather than just a title song. The music video also provides a glimpse of Nandamuri Balakrishnas action avatar.

Bankrolled by Miryala Ravinder Reddy of Dwaraka Creations, Akhanda marks the third collaboration of actor Nandamuri Balakrishna and director Boyapati Sreenu after blockbusters Simha and Legend. The movie also stars Pragya Jaiswal and Srikanth.

On the work front, Balakrishna also has a yet-to-be-titled film with director Gopichand Malineni in the pipeline.

The 61-year-old actor recently made his OTT debut as a host of the talk show Unstoppable with NBK. While Mohan Babu, Vishnu Manchu, and Lakshmi Manchu were the guests in its first episode, the second episode will have Nani as the special guest.

From hospitality manager to psytrance musician, the wonderful story of Novlik: – The UBJ

Till a few years back, NovlikNisudanwas just another brick in the wall. After completing his education, he was working as aFrontOfficeManager at ITC Hotels. However, Novlik was one who had harboured a deep interest in music since the young age of 10.It was a fate-definingtrip to Manchester, which brought his passions into focus and thus began his journey as an independent DJ and music producer.

So why did Novlik choose psychedelic trance in particular? To understand the reasoning, we have to take a deeper look intoNovlikspersonal experiences growing up. Although he didnt let himself realise it, Novlik had always had an interest in music and was associated with it since he was 10 years of age. So, he had already been professionally trained in Hindustani classical music which is considered to be one of the basic forms of music theory from which relations to all other genres of music can be drawn. After coming back from Manchester, love for music freshly raring, Novlik was more or less prepared for this change, at least technically.

Since taking that first step towards a new identity, Novlik is considered one of the rising independent DJs of the world. He has also hosted and performed at several events both in and outside the city of Hyderabad. His first album was launched in 2017 and helped establish him as a professional music composer as well. The album had quite a good reception and Novlik found himself with a fan base that always supported and admired him and his talent. It was not long before Novlik took his position as one of the leading Psychedelic Trance musicians in the Indian music industry considering there are not many names that have been able to properly capitalise into their chosen niche.

Presently Novlik is working for Prism,Hyderabad, also known as Prism Club and Kitchen, which is one of the citys favourite performance and event venues. He began his term there only on the 29th of June this year but has been associated which PrismHyderabad in his capacities as an independent musician before as well. Apart from the above, Novlik also holds the position of Label DJ and marketing strategist at Rage Cage Productions, a role he joined in October 2018. Novlik is also self-employed as a DJ commodities trader.

As of now, Novlik has almost 19K followers on Instagram and many more regulars who swear by his music. To join the psychedelic trance community, follow Novlik on his social media profiles linked below:

Clubhouse Answer Their Own Question ‘Are We Going Too Slow?’ – American Songwriter

Posted: at 1:48 pm

Written mostly in 2020,Are We Going Too Slow was a collective effort for indie-pop rockers Clubhouse. For the Ohio-bred band, made up of Max Reichert, guitarist Ari Blumer, bassist Michael Berthold, drummer Zakand keyboardist Forrest Taylor, holing themselves up in a mountain retreat in Highland Park was a welcome reprieve from the external noise, a pandemic, and the bands own personal challenges over the past few years.

In 2018, Reichert was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer, and was cancer-free for nearly a year and a half, before it returned to his lungs.Throughout his treatments, including ongoing chemotherapy, which started in December of 2020, the singer continued working with the band on their EP Are We Going Too Slow?

We technically wrote the whole EP while I was in chemotherapy, which also ties into the whole motif for the EP of just us going after what we want to go after, shares Reichert. Despite the roadblocks and whatever might be happening in your life, you can still roll with the punches and go after what you want. This hasnt slowed us down yet.

Making the EP also forced the band to take a step back and look at how they approached their music, from a writing standpoint. We were at a little bit of a crossroads with our careers and our lives, shares Reichert. Were all in our early 20s deciding what we wanted to do with their lives. Do we want to chase music, or do we want to get into full-time jobs? It was a tough time for us.

Relocating, and retreating, as a unit was the perfect formula for fleshing out the inner workings of the EP.It was our first time really setting aside a full month to just work on music every day, day in day out, and that was how a lot of the EP came together, says Reichert. It was also our first time ever putting together a project, so it was a learning experience for all of us.

Throughout Are We Going Too Slow? Clubhouse produces several storylines, all rotating around their assessment of life, loss, and finding pushing past darker moments, from the dance-y pop of Flipside and Home Videos and the hip-hop trance of Weekend. Uplifting through the heavier pulses of No Way!, Heartbroke offers a more dreamy break. You Were Never Mine and the title track pack a slowed pace circling around the more introspective question, and the ultimate theme of the album that kept resurfacing for the band.

That question, Are we going too slow? is a question we find ourselves asking ourselves a lot, says Blumer. Are we releasing music quick enough? Are we as successful as we want to be at this stage in our lives? Are we wasting our time? We are we just found ourselves asking these questions all the time as we navigated our 20s.

Blumer adds that the most common theme throughout the EP is the bands answer to that burning question. Its our answer to the question in terms of us being able to take life a little lightly, not taking it too seriously, not being afraid to go after what we want to go after, he says. And that translates through all the songs, lyrically and sonically.

After the first month of continuous late nights and early mornings, the band pulled together something cohesive, says Berthold, answering their own questions and working through whatever was ahead.

Its something that sort of felt close to home and what was going on, not only personally with us but in a broader sense with COVID, says Berthold. It just felt like things were coming together.

In Clubhouse, most songs are written collaboratively, then pieced together musicallyor vice versa. Were all multi-instrumentalists, so we dont really like to give ourselves hard roles, but we ultimately all have hard roles, says Reichert. When we play live,I sing and play guitars and drums, but in terms of writing, its a very open democracy. If Zak wants to come up with a guitar riff, he could. It doesnt matter. The roles switch and are very fluid once were in the studio together.

Reichert adds, It just allows us to kind of go with our gut, and it frees up our expression a bit where we can just follow the song rather than the other way around.

Thinking about one moment on the title track, during the bridge where the song slows, and theres a crescendo build is something the band is excited to perform live, with an upcoming North American tour supporting The Wombats. Were going to transform that into something even bigger and crazier than it is on the recorded version, says Reichert.

For now, Clubhouse wants to bask in the triumph of this musical effort together.

We want people to leave after listening with the feeling that they can go after whatever it is they want to go after and that life is really short, says Reichert. Dont doubt yourself, just focus on whats important in life and roll with the punches.
