Razza wins the TFT Fates Oceania Finals – Daily Esports

Posted: at 12:14 am

The first of eight Teamfight Tactics Regional Finals has just wrapped up with the Oceanic region crowning its champion. After four days of competition, with a field of the 32 best players across the region, the event reached a climax on Sunday. The final eight players fought for the lions share of a $6,500 AUD prize pool and the title of the best player in the region.

Although he did not dominate the tournament from start to finish, Razza showed that consistency is everything in TFT. After fighting off the entire 32 player field, Razza won the title of the best TFT player in Ocenia. But more importantly, he earned a trip to Worlds.

Razza played 24 games over four days of competition. At the end of each day, the eight players with the least amount of points were eliminated. He did not play exceptionally well in the first three days, but did enough to avoid the cut each time. He relied heavily on his Keeper play as well as his Vanguard Mystic Neeko. However, Razza decided to play his best TFT of the season when it mattered the most.

After a poor start in game one of the finals, Razza faced an uphill battle as his main threat, Team Solo Mids Jang Keane Lae-young, started the finals with a game one victory. Keane was the favorite heading into the final day as he carried momentum from day three where he finished first overall. The TSM sponsored player finished sixth, but the placement was still good enough to qualify for the finals. Starting with game two, Razza started to close that gap.

Piloting a Dragonsoul Shyvana build, Razza placed third in game two while Keane broke out of Fortune prison a little too early and finished seventh. Game three is when Razza turned it up a notch. Keane bounced back with a third place finish of his own in the game, but Razza playing Dragonsoul Slayers grabbed his first win of the night. With the finals at the halfway point, Razza and Keane were dead even in the standings.

With the Oceania Region only receiving one spot at the world championships this season, the last three games were intense. Games two and three saw Razza play outside of his comfort zone. But with the championship on the line, he decided to go back to his tried and true strategy in game four. On the backs of a three star Neeko and Nautilus, Razza racked up his second win in a row. The win put him alone at the top of the standings for the first time all weekend.

Game five saw Razza play his other comfort pick in the form of Keepers. With Razza just needing to play safe to keep his lead, he piloted Keepers to a third place finish. Because of a brutal sixth place placement by Keane in game five, the gap widened between first and second. By the final game of the event, Razza had a 50 point lead over the next closest player. All Razza had to do was capture a top four finish in game six to clinch the Oceania championship.

The tournament was all but over as soon as Razza hit a three star Nunu in the sixth game. Although a Nunu Brawler composition wouldnt win the lobby, it was good enough for a top four placement. After Gages bowed out in the fifth round and with Razza still alive, the Exist Oceania content creator clinched the championship. Not even Keane winning the final game of the day would allow him to catch up. At the end of the event, Razza finished in first place with Keane in second.

Razza is no stranger to playing against international competition. He was one of the four Ocenia players who qualified for last seasons OCE/NA Finals. Although he didnt do to well in that event, Razza will get another opportunity to prove himself on the big stage on April seventh as he will be competing against 23 of the best players in the world for a prize pool of $250,000 and the title of TFT Fates world champion.

Oceania Cruises sets bookings record for its global collection of 2022 to 2023 winter sailings – The Yucatan Times

Posted: at 12:14 am

Australian company Oceania Cruises just saw its strongest booking day in the companys history, signaling high demanddespite the current global cruising pause.

On March 3, Oceania opened bookings for 2022 to 2023 Tropics and Exotics Collection winter sailings. Shortly after, the cruise line received a flood of interest, resulting in an all-time record bookings day since the cruise line first started 18 years ago.

This wildly popular 127-itinerary sailing collection spans several continents including Africa, Antarctica, and South Pacific between seven to 77 days. The highest selling trip was a 35-day cruise around Australia during Christmas and New Years. But in general, cruises to Asia, Africa, South America, the Caribbean, and combined Australia and New Zealand saw especially strong bookings, according to the cruise line.

The tremendous wave of bookings we saw on the day we opened our new 2022 and 2023 itineraries for sale underscores theextraordinary demand for long and exotic cruise vacations, Bob Binder, Oceania Cruises president and CEO, said in apress release. Upscale travelers are eager to explore the world once more and are booking farther in advance to ensure their travel dreams are fulfilled.

This isnt the first time Oceania has seen massive success with its cruises this year. On January 27, the cruise line opened bookings for its2023 180-day global sailing starting at $41,600. The trip then sold out within a day.

Looking ahead, in September, the cruise line plans to open bookings for its 2023 cruises in Europe and North America in order to satisfy demand from consumers and travel advisors who are booking farther in advance.

Pent-up demand for travel has been felt across adjacent industries likecruisingandhotels. Now, figures likeBrian Chesky, Airbnbs CEO, are predictingan upcoming travel rebound as vaccine rollout continues and countries begin accepting new visitors. As a result, this high demand for future cruises could signal a strong return for cruise lines after over ayear of empty ships and no-sail orders.

China is building up its ability to weaponize trade, new report says – CNBC

China is diversifying its supply of critical natural resources a move that will shore up Beijing's ability to weaponize trade against its geopolitical rivals, according to a newly published report by risk consultancy Verisk Maplecroft.

"If China has a soft underbelly, it is its high dependency on foreign natural resources," read the report released on Thursday.

China is a large consumer of major commodities including crude oil and iron ore. But the country relies heavily on imports to meet its domestic demand for those commodities.

One way the country is diversifying its import sources is by buying stakes in overseas companies, said Verisk Maplecroft. Doing that will increase the proportion of Chinese-owned resources in the country's total imports, the report said.

As an example, the consultancy said the number of Chinese-owned base metals and gold companies in Oceania rose from zero in the year 2000 to 59 last year. It represented around 22.6% of total foreign ownership in such companies, the report showed.

Oceania is a region that includes Australia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Fiji and numerous island nations.

"China is seeking to strengthen its control over global supply chains via overseas investments and partnerships with international majors. Beijing has been supporting Chinese SOEs [state-owned enterprises] to 'go global' and establish control of resource bases overseas since the late 1990s," said the report.

China imports critical commodities such as crude oil, natural gas, metallurgical coal and iron ore from a "highly concentrated" group of trading partners, said Verisk Maplecroft.

In diversifying its import sources, China prefers suppliers from "stable autocratic regimes" to democracies that may involve frequent changes in governments or potential shifts in policy, it added.

By securing diversified sources, China will be in a better position to weaponise trade with geopolitical rivals, while at the same time increasing the economic dependence of new and existing partners.

"Our data shows China is pivoting towards more autocratic regimes that represent greater stability for its supply lines than democracies that are, or may become, hostile to Beijing. But it is also using its massive market as a source of diplomatic leverage," the consultancy said.

"By securing diversified sources, China will be in a better position to weaponise trade with geopolitical rivals, while at the same time increasing the economic dependence of new and existing partners," it said.

But democratic countries dominate the production of some resources one of them is iron ore.

China's largest supplier of iron ore last year was Australia, an American ally that was recently hit by Beijing's trade restrictions.

Australia shipped a monthly average of 60.86 million tonnes of iron ore to China in 2020, accounting for more than 60% of overall Chinese imports of the commodity, Refinitiv data showed.

That's why China has been strengthening trade ties with other iron ore producers such as Brazil and Guinea, according to the Verisk Maplecroft report.

"Despite a tougher line on Beijing under President Bolsonaro, Brazil remains a priority in China's diversification strategy, while Guinea is politically well disposed to Beijing amid democratic backslide," the report said.

Companies and investors are in the direct sights of Beijing's diplomatic moves and will need to prepare accordingly.

Such geopolitical tensions could persist as China speeds up its effort to reduce its reliance on "unfriendly" resource suppliers, said Verisk Maplecroft.

"Banning imports of coal from Australia was a prime example but more are likely to follow, with significant impacts on the trade in global commodities and the geopolitical landscape likely," it said.

"Companies and investors are in the direct sights of Beijing's diplomatic moves and will need to prepare accordingly."

Lionesses set to grace new World Rugby event in 2023 – The Star, Kenya

Posted: at 12:14 am

Kenya Lionesses will benefit from newly introduced annual World Rugby womens 15's competition model and international playing windows that will supercharge the womens game.

Lionesses, who are chasing a maiden appearance at next year's World Cup in New Zealand, will fancy their chances of qualifying for the inaugural event slated for 2023.

Supported by an initial Sh896 million World Rugby investment, the three WXV competitions will feature 16 teams and will be hosted within a new September-October global competition window, except in a Rugby World Cup year.

Teams will qualify annually into the WXV competitions courtesy of their finishing positions within the respective existing annual regional competitions, such as the Womens Six Nations. These regional competitions, played within a new regional window, must be completed by June each year.

To support the implementation of the WXV competitions, a new annual cross-region competition, will be established to act as one of the principle qualification routes for the top tier .

This will feature Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the USA. This represents a huge step forward, providing a regular annual international competition, which never used to exist, for these teams.

The first model of WXV will consist of six teams and will be played in a cross-pool format at a standalone tournament in a location, which will be determined on an year-by-year basis.

Participating teams will include the top three teams from the Womens Six Nations (Europe) and the top three teams of the cross-regional tournament featuring Australia, Canada, New Zealand and USA (Oceania/Rugby Americas North (RAN)). Each team will play three matches. There will be no promotion or relegation in the first cycle of WXV 1.

The second model will equally consist of six teams and will be played in a cross-pool format, as a standalone tournament in one location on an year-by-year basis.

Participating teams for 2023 will include two teams from Europe, the fourth-placed team from the cross-regional tournament featuring Australia, Canada, New Zealand and USA (Oceania/RAN) alongside one team from Oceania, Asia and Africa.

Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) director in charge of women's rugby, Moses Ndale welcomed the new tournament observing that it represents a good opportunity for Kenyans to test themselves against the top women playing nations in the world.

"It's a good opportunity for us to feature in a big event and play the top women teams outside the World Cup, he added.

Women leaders in Oceania paving the path for the future of basketball – FIBA

Posted: March 9, 2021 at 1:20 pm

GOLD COAST (Australia) - Pacific Women basketball leaders are leading the way in the growth of basketball in the region with fresh perspectives and innovative approaches to developing the game.

According to a Russell 1000 report, in 2018, female leaders held 20.8% of the board seats listed on corporate boards.

With a review of the current board members of National Federations in the Oceania region, over 34 percent of the members were female individuals including FIBA Oceania Board Members, Karo Lelai of Papua New Guinea and Jubilee Kuartei of Palau

One of FIBAs pillars of objective in this strategic cycle is Women in Basketball, and the continuous growth we have in the region is impressive whether on or off the court, FIBA in Oceania Senior Manager Amanda Jenkins shared.

With capable management and women leaders on the board of our national federations, we will continue to improve our diversity and approach in developing the game in Oceania, she added.

Some of the highlights of Women in Basketball in the region were the first all-female technical crew that officiated a women's basketball game in the Pacific Games in 2019 and FIBA's office in Oceania currently has over 75 percent, full-time female employees.

FIBA reached out to the female board members to get their thoughts as leaders in their respective Federations.

Lelai serves as the Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea's (BFPNG) President and is also part of the FIBA Central Board and mentioned that there is still room for improvement in leadership roles in Papua New Guinea."It is still very much a man's world," shared Lelai regarding the basketball scene in Papua New Guinea.

" I have to prove myself every day in this job because there are still doubts in our capabilities as leaders. However, I must still commend the PNG, basketball family. In my personal view, we are light years ahead of many other sports in terms of gender equity," she added.

Lelai is the first female President in the history of BFPNG, and in her term as leader, the Federation performed well in 2020 with its innovation and adaptability despite the pandemic. BFPNG revised its community programs and targeted provinces outside of Port Moresby to alleviate the lost opportunities with government-imposed lockdowns in the capital.Lelai stressed the importance of diversity in leadership as a key factor in the growth of any organization.

"Diversity at the decision-making level assists to ensure a much better outcome. Even more importantly, females, who are often nurturers in the home, will be more mindful of and will pay more attention to athlete welfare or protection and gender-smart decision making," she shared.

"Given the statistics of gender-based violence in PNG, sport is a powerful platform for survivors to tell their story and empower other women to take proactive steps to protect themselves. Sport has a responsibility to facilitate women empowerment.," she added.

Photo: Kuartei during the 2019 FIBA Oceania Zone Assembly

Meanwhile, Palau's Kuartei is the youngest Board Member in the Palau Basketball Federation (PBF), while also serving as a member of FIBA's commission on the Working Group on National Federations Development.

"Despite being the youngest in the Board (PBF), I believe I was acknowledged because of my hands-on experience in basketball as a former player, a former elite referee, and my experience with the administration for 20 years," shared Kuartei.

Kuartei shared that Palau's matriarchal society has helped her work as the Federation's Secretary-General that is supportive of her decisions for Palau basketball.

"With Palau Basketball, I have never felt any unequal treatment as a female leader. Being a woman, and the youngest of our board, it has been an honor to serve with a team of great leadership on the Palau Basketball Federation board," she said.

The Palau native emphasized the importance of role models in society, especially from a leadership perspective.

"I feel it's important to be that role model for the young girls in our sport, but also our communities. Through basketball, as female leaders, we have a greater voice and responsibility to our communities and countries," Kuartei said.

The growing number of women playing basketball in the region was apparent in the last year. In reference to the Development Participation numbers of Pacific countries in 2020, women in basketball participation have increased to 28 percent.

The influx of female leaders in the region has certainly given avenues for women to showcase their talent and leadership in the management sector.

Whether in the form of providing a diverse opinion, role models for the youth, or professional skills to the table, their contributions are not to be understated and could be the key for basketball to take the next level in the Pacific.

Olympic rowing qualifier in Tokyo given green light, border restrictions to ease – Insidethegames.biz

Posted: at 1:20 pm

The Asia and Oceania Olympic and Paralympic Continental Qualification Regatta is to proceed as planned in May after World Rowing received assurances that athletes will be allowed to enter Japan to take part.

The Japanese Government has told World Rowing and the Japan Rowing Association that foreign delegations will be permitted to enter the country come May - something that is not currently allowed.

Japan's border has been largely shut in response to the coronavirus pandemic, but authorities plan to allow athletes to visit in the coming months ahead of the Olympics and Paralympics.

Foreign athletes had previously been given special dispensation to visit Japan, but this was stopped when new variants of COVID-19 were detected in the country.

The assurances mean that the event meets World Rowing's "Return to Regattas" guidelines, and has therefore been given the green light by the organisation's Executive Committee.

The Executive Committee is also satisfied with organisers' COVID-19 prevention plan.

That will be communicated to national bodies in due course, but includes mandatory mask-wearing except for when eating, training or competing.

The event is due to run from May 5 to 7 at Tokyo's Sea Forest Waterway.

Sea Forest Waterway will also be the rowing venue for this year's Olympics and Paralympics.

The Americas rowing qualifier for Tokyo 2020 was completed last week in Rio de Janeiro, with some finals moved forward ahead of fresh coronavirus restrictions coming into force.

Varese in Italy is set to stage the European event from April 5 to 7, before a last-chance global qualification regatta is held in Lucerne in Switzerland, from May 21 to 23.

One in three women endure physical or sexual violence – WHO – swissinfo.ch

Posted: at 1:20 pm

This content was published on March 9, 2021 - 16:57March 9, 2021 - 16:57

By Stephanie Nebehay

GENEVA (Reuters) - Nearly one in three women worldwide is subjected to physical or sexual violence during her lifetime, pervasive criminal behaviour that has increased during the pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Tuesday.

The U.N. agency urged governments to prevent violence, improve services for victims and tackle economic inequalities that often leave women and girls trapped in abusive relationships.

Boys should be taught in school about the need for mutual respect in relationships and mutual consent in sex, WHO officials said.

Violence against women is endemic in every country and culture, causing harm to millions of women and their families, and has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

Some 31% of women aged 15-49, or up to 852 million women, have experienced physical or sexual violence, the WHO said in what it called the largest-eversuch study, encompassing national data and surveys from 2000-2018.

A husband or intimate partner is the most common perpetrator and a disproportionate number of victims are in the poorest countries, https://tmsnrt.rs/3t5OO78 it said. True figures are likely far higher due to under-reporting of sexual abuse, a heavily-stigmatised crime.

"These numbers are very shocking and really are sort of a wake-up call for governments to be doing much more to prevent this violence," report author Claudia Garcia-Moreno said.

In some regions, more than half of women face violence at some point, she told Reuters, citing Oceania, sub-Saharan Africa and southern Asia.

Countries with the highest prevalence include Kiribati, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Bangladesh, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Afghanistan, WHO data show.

The lowest rates are in Europe, up to 23%, over a lifetime.

Violence starts at an "alarmingly young" age, the WHO said.

One in four adolescent girls aged 15-19 who have had a relationship have been subjected to either physical or sexual violence, Garcia-Moreno said.

"This is a very important and formative time in life. And we know that the impacts of this violence can be long-lasting and can affect physical and mental health and lead to unwanted pregnancies and other complications," she said.

The hills of Mizoram are alive with the sound of football – FIFA.com

Posted: at 1:20 pm

Located in the extremes of the north-eastern region of India bordering Myanmar and Bangladesh, Mizoram is a remote state in rugged, hilly terrain that is geographically unfamiliar to many from mainland India.

However, due to its recent exploits in the game, this diminutive state has been firmly put on the map in India. Despite numerous successes, the Mizoram Football Association - affiliated to the All India Football Federation - was yet to have a proper infrastructure under its authority.

The Mizoram State Sports Council had granted control of the local ground at Sairang Dinthar to the MFA in 2013. In 2016, the All India Football Federation President Mr Praful Patel stated at the AIFF General Body Meeting that Mizoram will be recognised for its hard work and dedication in football by being granted an artificial turf pitch using FIFA funds. In August of the same year, excavation work for the site began.

In March 2019, FIFA Consultant Prof. Eric Harrison arrived on site for an inspection, with a view towards the installation of the artificial turf. The extensive preparatory site at the site, before Edel Grass - the contractor chosen by FIFA did the rest of the work - fell into the sole hands of the Mizoram FA who then approached the state government for funds to aid the excavation work.

As the location of the site is rocky by nature, progress became laboured. Heavy monsoon rains received practically all-year round and the unexpected COVID-19 pandemic also resulted in an extended delay during the final stages of the project; but ultimately, with astute planning and considerable cooperation and execution, the MFA Ground at Sairang Dinthar was finally completed. Initially a FIFA Challenger project converted into a FIFA Forward 1.0 Special Project, the infrastructure was finally handed over on 12 February 2021.

The formal inauguration of the newly laid turf was held at the site on 8 March 2021 by Mr. Robert R. Royte, Honble Minister for Sports & Youth Services, Government of Mizoram in presence of the Mizoram FA officials and staff, ex-players and current footballers and the community. FIFA Regional Office Development Manager South Asia, Mr Prince Rufus was also present. Speaking on this occasion, the Honble Minister for Sports & Youth Services commented that as a football enthusiast and as a Minister of Mizoram, he conveyed his deep gratitude to FIFA, and he promised that the state government would construct a considerable number of artificial pitches in the near future.

Mr. Sanjeevan Balasingam, FIFA Director Member Associations, Asia & Oceania in his message commented, On the inauguration of the FIFA Forward 1.0 Special Project 'Sairang Dinthar Artificial Turf, Mizoram', I would like to congratulate All India Football Federation and Mizoram Football Association. I am sure that this new infrastructure will help develop and promote football in the region more than ever before. FIFA is pleased to bring joy and football to the local community through this newly laid turf. I am aware that Mizoram Football Association has plans for the future focused around this turf and I wish all success for your ensuing endeavour."

Mr. Praful Patel, President, All India Football Federation in his message said: All India Football Federation is delighted to be part of the development process in helping out the Mizoram Football Federation with the artificial turf under the FIFA Forward Programme. The AIFF is committed to the growth of the sport in every corner of the country and is aware of the passion for the Beautiful Game in the state. AIFF appreciates and is thankful to FIFA for all their help and look forward to the support and cooperation all throughout."

Now that MFA has exclusive control of this ground, the planning for Tribal Girls Hostel has also begun and the association can now focus on dedicated long-term grassroots and youth development programmes, as well as activities for the wider community.

Sharemarket falls as bond yields spike higher, reducing appeal of equities – Stuff.co.nz

Posted: at 1:20 pm

123rf

Investors are expecting higher inflation, which is weighing on the sharemarket.

The sharemarket reversed an earlier gain to end the day lower as expectations of higher inflation pushed up bond yields, denting the appeal of some stocks.

The benchmark S&P/NZX 50 Index closed down 0.8 per cent, or 95.067 points, to 12,085.18 on Monday.

The 10-year government bond yield lifted 7 basis points to 1.913 per cent late Monday afternoon, from 1.84 per cent around midday.

We have seen a pretty significant reversal in the market as interest rates spike up further, said Brad Gordon, an investment adviser at Hobson Wealth Partners.

READ MORE:* Sharemarket weakens as investors eye recovery, ditch utility stocks* Sharemarket slips as Contact, Meridian fall out of favour

Its inflationary driven, he said. Inflation feeds directly through to interest rates and interest rates feed into stock market valuations. From a valuation perspective, rising interest rates are not good for stocks.

Gordon said the rise in bond yields hurt stocks with a high price-to-earnings ratio, such as Fisher & Paykel Healthcare and The a2 Milk Company, two of the biggest companies on the benchmark, which reversed their early gains to finish lower.

Fisher & Paykel fell 4.2 per cent to $27.34, its lowest value this year. A2 Milk dropped 2.1 per cent to $9.92.

KIRK HARGREAVES/Stuff

Changes to global energy indexes are expected to prompt selling of Meridian and Contact shares.

Electricity generators Meridian Energy and Contact Energy also lost their shine after a Forsyth Barr report said changes to S&Ps Global Clean Energy Index would reduce the weightings of the two companies and require exchange-traded funds that track the index to sell the companies shares.

Forsyth Barr estimates the changes would result in the sale of about 9 per cent of Contacts shares and about 8 per cent of Meridians shares. Contact shares offered great value, while Meridian looked expensive, the analysts said.

Contact slid 0.5 per cent to $6.68, while Meridian slipped 3 per cent to $5.15.

The main news of the day was the announcement by Oceania Healthcare that its chief executive Earl Gasparich had resigned while at the same time Metlifecare announced that it was employing Gasparich as its new chief executive to implement its growth strategy.

Its a bit of a surprise, said Gordon. We dont actually see CEOs move like that, poached directly by competitors, very often.

Oceania dropped 1.4 per cent to $1.43.

Meanwhile, the newest listing on the sharemarket, meat kit company My Food Bag, fell for a second day, down 2.3 per cent to $1.70. The shares, which were sold to investors at $1.85 each, closed down 5.9 per cent at $1.74 on their first day of trading on Friday.

Gordon described the shares as very soggy and said investors were probably a little bit disappointed.

He noted the initial offer was at a relatively full price, and the shares had declined along with the rest of the market, as higher interest rates impacted valuations.
